We went here for lunch today. Brookside Poultry is so good! The prices are high, but the food you get warrants the pricing with the portion sizes and quality. My husband got their special - chicken fried steak. It was the best he’s ever had. I had their wings and fries. It was absolutely amazing. It was so surprisingly quiet at lunch, we feel like it’s a hidden gem!

I may never cook again now that this is nearby. They definitely put happiness in their sour cream fried chicken. It's the kind of goodness that makes you quietly eat and enjoy, and maybe say "this is soooo good" in between bites. I lived in the South for a while and this brings that home cooking goodness to Brookside. Make sure you save a bite or two for the key lime pie! The service is wonderful.

THIS PLACE IS AWESOME! The chicken was incredible. The sauce was great. The sides were great. I highly recommend the home fries. The portions are generous and everything was totally affordable. My wife and I had meals and apps (and had two beers a piece) for under $40. And on top of all of that the staff was super nice and our food was crazy fast. Huge fan.

With out a doubt, some of the best food I’ve tasted in a long time. The seasoning in the chicken tenders is scrumptious . The green beans were perfectly cooked, the cheddar potatoes melt in your mouth, and the fried green tomatoes are little slices of heaven.

This was some of the best fried chicken I've had in Kansas City! We also had the shrimp and grits and I'll tell you that it was as good as what I've had in Charleston, SC. I've been looking for really good southern food but it's hard to find. Their spit roasted chicken and duck is 100% organic and free range. There were a lot of neighbors that strolled in to eat and the vibe was casual and friendly. We had great service and will be going back - this is a great addition to Brookside!

I wanted to love this place wholly, but I can’t. Why? First the seasoning level. I love the idea of sour cream fried chicken, but I have to judge what I put into my mouth. The chicken and the batter are underseasoned. The batter can also occasionally be too toothsome/crunchy in an unpleasant way. I’ve been a few times and this problem with the batter has only happened once, however the batter and chicken have always been underseasoned. I want this place to up their salt level and maybe let the rice batter rest more so the grains can soften more.

This has quickly become my favorite restaurant in Kansas City. The food is amazing (shrimp and grits are my favorite), and the service is great. The restaurant is very well lit and has an simple but elegant feel to it. They also play fantastic music in the background. Definitely my new regular lunch spot

Charles (owner and executive chef) is a genius with this menu. This is the most tender and flavorful chicken I have eaten. The flavors in the breading is second to none, the Grits are enough to make a southern grandmother take pause, the biscuits are dense yet not dry or too heavy, and the cheesy potatoes are amazing. I have taken part in the wings, chicken tenders in the BPC hot sauce, and the best chicken fried streak north of Savannah, GA. The staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgable about the menu and its ingredients. Great atmosphere without being stuffy. I recommend this place to any and all food lovers.

Yo, this place was delicious. I had a breast and thigh entree (with cheesy potatoes and butter poached green beans - both fabulous) and they were equally delicious, so try both whether you like white or dark meat. A clever thing they do is de-bone the cuts of chicken so you're not waiting 45 minutes for your food. Good stuff...I hope they're around for as long as they want to slang fried chicken.

48 hour sour cream brine on their chicken is second to none in Kansas City. The fry sauce, brussel sprouts, chicken quality, and crisp non oily outside is simple and always cooked / prepared perfectly.

Some of the most juicy and tender chicken I have ever had. I would love to give this place 5 stars for the quality of food, service, and the stellar "fries" but everything lacked salt. Likely entirely lacked salt. And the salt shakers were filled with large grain salt which made adding salt to anything a very slow process. I know that the sauces/dressings are to make up for that but I wasn't impressed with them. Overall, the sour cream brine thing makes for some really tender juicy chicken, it just really needs some salt!

If you love chicken. Go here! Food portion is huge. Sweet staff. They only serve beer and wine (gin & tonic in a can). It gets crowded so don’t mind the wait. Love their salads.

When we entered our noses were greeted with the delightful aroma of well seasoned chicken cooked in fresh oil. Even in the cold weather the only immediately available seats were two at the bar. We were impressed by the wide selection of both beer (20+) and wine (30+) for a place that can only seat about 40. Excitedly we looked over the menu and decided to divide and conquer as much as we reasonably could. My wife chose the chicken breast upgraded to a meal and I chose the (supersized) chicken wings. We decided to start with and share the order of fried green tomatoes and cheddar biscuits. I chose a Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat and my wife chose a Cab Sav to compliment our meals. The Fried Green Tomatoes were very well prepared. You could tell the tomatoes were cut fresh and cooked in oil hot enough to make the batter crispy. They were complimented with a creamy sauce, chopped spinach and diced red tomatoes. It was a great balance of acid. salt, fat, and spice. We watched as two batches of biscuits were pulled from the oven. One slightly more caramelized than the other, hoping we would be able to sample one of each batch. Our wish came true. I preferred the slightly more caramelized version as I felt the more crispy exterior complimented the moist and crumbly interior. I watched in excitement as Chef Charles tossed my fresh fried chicken wings in the sauce (the bar seating was a nice front row seat to the kitchen). I found the seasoning to be a nice balance between hot and sweet for the broader audience (I prefer more kick but realize I am an outlier). My wife's chicken breast was crispy outside with a moist and well brined interior. The cheddar potatoes were divine. The potatoes were parboiled so that they had firmness, but were supple. The cheese mixture cocooned them in smooth, creamy texture. The green beans were lightly seasoned and cooked so that they had a nice, light firmness and retained tenderness. We finished with the Key Lime Pie. It was very tasty. I would have preferred more lime flavor and slightly more crust, but both the filling and topping were whipped to perfection. Light without being too airy. Consistent without being too firm. They even recommended a great white wine to pair with the pie and allowed us to split the glass. Brookside Poultry Company has dedicated itself their menu and it shows! Chef Charles truly has earned the "Chef" title as this limited menu restaurant creates taste sensations through focus and dedication. The great food is complimented by a family of employees that serve the food with pride and you can feel the authentic connection. We greatly enjoyed out interaction with our server Justin. On a cute note. There are coloring sheets for the kiddos to fill out. Chef Charles took time out of cooking and personally hung one child's "chicken" creation exactly where they wanted it on the wall and wrote the kids name (as they spelled it) on the adjacent chalkboard. It was a heartwarming moment. I'm wishing Brookside continued success and hopefully they will open a location in NKC soon...

What a wonderful dining experience. Lunch or dinner, business or casual, this place is perfect. The laid back atmosphere creates a necessary "plate sharing" with not just your table guest but the guests at nearby tables around you. You find yourself immersed in conversations about the succulent food that is brought to your table with your neighbors and even the Chef himself. Chef Charles has brought fine dining down to a true comfort farm to table feel. The food, combined with the feel, makes this place the perfect stop for something delicious and memorable. I have been dark meat person my whole life. The brining method along with the perfect seasoning touch that Charles uses creates an explosion of flavor and moisture that will make me a breast person only at Brookside Poultry. Chef Charles has given KC something to be proud of and has added poultry to the map of Kansas City. Watch out BBQ and Steak.

Place has some good chicken. I ordered the chicken strips and got 5 good sized strips of chicken. They came with fried jalapenos which made it feel a bit hotter than expected. The place itself was really busy and kinda loud, and it took awhile to get seated and ordered, which kinda sucked.

The southern style friend chicken really is amazing. I would definitely recommend upgrading to an entree because the green beans and potatoes are delicious. The wings are the same style friend chicken and doused in the perfect amount of hot sauce, I would highly recommend getting them. The check in process when first arriving is a bit confusing if they are busy. There is a small white board to the right of the bar with the wait list on it. Be sure to grab a waiter and get your name down instead of standing around for 5 minutes confused like we did.

Casual atmosphere and delicious food. Business was slow during my second visit and unfortunately we saw staff being somewhat unprofessional. They were using cell phones in the open and making “jokes” when the phone rang about telling the caller that they were packed and the caller shouldn’t come. I would think the staff would want more customers so they get more tips.

I was in there getting a to go order, the staff was super prompt and friendly. The thing that stuck out most was when the server , (I’m not sure who, Asian girl with glasses) handed me my food, she said in the most sincere way “make sure to finish your water, it’s REALLY hot outside.” My mother passed away 3 months ago and it reminded me of something she would say. The concern, care, and empathy she demonstrated from that comment blew me away. Amazing staff. 5 out of 5 hands down!

The fried chicken was THE BEST I've ever had! We loved the shrimp and grits as well as the big salad. My husband had the steak which was seasoned beautifully and perfectly cooked. We had an incredible dinner here while in KC. The spit roasted local duckling is a must, as is a side order of fried green tomatoes. They have a thoughtful wine list and a lot of affordable canned and bottled beer. This is a real family spot, very friendly and warm, with a tv on over the bar and kids' art on one of the walls. It's world class food without pretense. Just really well done, beautiful ingredients treated right, and served by incredibly kind people. The chef came out at the end of the meal and chatted with us and other tables. Thanks for a very special night.

I thought, "fried chicken place, big deal." So on my first visit I tried the shrimp & grits — oh, lordy — they're good enough to roll in!!! On my next visit, I tried the duck. Absolutely stellar! Crispy skin, super moist meat. Up until this point, duck hasn't been on my radar. Then there's the pumpkin pie. So creamy & custardy & smooth. It has ruined my own pumpkin pie for me. I bought one to go. At this point, I know that I'll try anything this restaurant puts in front of me. Can I give it a 6-star rating?!

Good chicken. I pigged out and got the Amish chicken, a fried chicken breast and fried green tomatoes. I was nervous by the sour cream fried chicken label, but it was still pretty good. If you're not a fan of sour cream don't let that scare you off. The fried green tomatoes are among the best I've ever had. The Amish chicken was good and plentiful. I will definitely be coming back.

Best chicken I’ve ever had. The place is pretty small but the ambiance is welcoming and warm. They get you as fast as possible and even let you share tables if you’re good with that. The story is the food! Chicken is so good. We also had fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, and a piece of pie. Everything was so good. They have salads and fried green tomatoes too so if fried chicken isn’t your thing there are plenty choices to suit every tastebud!

My dad took my brother here for lunch while he was in town visiting from Chicago. I couldn't join because I'm recovering from a head injury. The owner sent food with them back to me which was greatly enjoyed and I was deeply touched by the gesture. The chicken strips are lovely, perfectly cooked and not too heavily breaded. The fried green tomatoes were generously portioned and very tasty. The food traveled well and made one unpleasant day of recovery amongst many much brighter.

Super service excellent atmosphere and tasty food! Easy to find at 63rd and oak but limited street parking only. The dining room is small but large enough for the normal crowd with roomy counter service also available. Today I had the boneless breast and potatoes, I also tried the chicken salad sandwich as well as the cheesey biscuits with ham off my friends plate! Everyone enjoyed the food and cozy atmosphere here on a rainy day.

Wow! Great place and very friendly staff. The chicken was amazing. Specifically, I had the sour cream fried chicken breast. It was amazing. I love southern type cuisine and this did not disappoint. I also had the shrimp and grits. They were out of this world. One of my favorite dishes and they really hit the mark. I also had the pie. We had the key lime and I cant remember the other. But omg the pie was amazing. We got to meet the chef great fellow. Apparently everything is made from scratch. I had some beers and chicken so I was in heaven. We will be back soon and often. Great spot!
