Mr Chen's is an unexpected surprise for two reasons. The first is that it is inside an Asian grocery store. The second surprise is that it really has outstanding authentic Chinese dishes. The roast duck is a must have if you come here. After that there is a large selection of choices on the menu with chicken, fish, pork, beef, tofu, and vegetables. I was there with a group of six and we tried at least 12 different dishes that were all excellent. If you come here make sure it's with a group so you can sample as many dishes.

We usually come here for food, and let me just say that it tastes amazing. Food is hearty, and it’s better to tag along your friends and family to come here. When you’re done eating, there is a market where you can buy snacks and fresh produce. Service however isn’t that fast, and food takes a long time to cook. Other than that, I recommend this place.

If your Oriental looking for things from various places in asia look no further they have you covered they have everything from real Japanese ramen to Chinese cooking wine if your looking for various Asian cookware they got you fam also they have all type of Asian meats fruits and snacks and Candy's also they have a Asian restaurant inside the grocery store it's okay but it's not the main attraction if your from the metro of Mississippi I highly recommend this place its a must go if you haven't been gives you a small glimpse of the Asian culture also they serve bubble tea so if you like that it's there

Authentic, clean, tasty, and friendly. I was dining alone, so I couldn't try a large variety of items like I wanted to. I walked there from a local hotel to avoid their generic continental breakfast and ended up staying for a meal. Dumplings, seaweed salad, and scallion pancakes warmed up pretty well, BTW.

This restaurant is located within a typical Asian grocery store. I came with my family for dinner on Father's Day and didn't made a reservation, but we were seated immediately upon our arrival after viewing the menu. People were very friendly and nice, and the food didn't take too long. One particular dish was a little bitter for my taste, and lighting towards the back was a bit dim. Overall, however, I enjoyed the meal.

amazing Chinese food in an unassuming grocery. I have a feeling if you don't know this place exists you would never find it. But if you like good inexpensive Chinese food, this is the place to go. Beware! The portions are bigger than I expected. That meant leftovers, so it all worked out.

Never disappointed! My picky childs loves the sticky white rice and dumplings. King pao is amazing. Hot and Sour soup is a meal in itself between two and the crispy oysters are great and they have wonderful calm atmosphere and it is fun to look around their store. I love lychees and they had them a while back. Lunch specials very affordable. Dont over order , or do, it is that good.

The restaurant is attached to the asian grocery store. Korean pears, sugarcane, fresh ginger, coconuts, fresh tomatoes, tofu, a large variety of Asian sauces, snack and candy. Love it! All the way in the back, they are cute little tea cups and China dishes of varying shapes. Restaurant has really authentic food and bubble tea! If you're on a diet, the clear soup with chicken, veggies, shrimp and crabmeat is an excellent choice. The store even had a large tank full of live fish,fresh crabs and shrimp.

This was my first time coming to this restaurant and I went based off the great reviews.... when I got the there wait to even take my order was about 20 minutes. I was waited with no problem then I order something simple sweet and sour chicken and fried rice the chicken was great but when I looked at my rice it was regular steam rice which is NOT what I asked for! Then I called to explain that my order was wrong and was told well I didn’t charge you the extra for fried rice

I have been going to Mr. Chens for about two or three years now. I was extremely dissatisfied with the quality of service and the quality of food I received today. Typically, they aren’t the super friendliest of staff, but I brush it off because they’re usually busy but lately, the servers have been extremely nonchalant about me being in their establishment. They seem to be more interested in seeing how many people they can fit behind the counter without saying “Hello” to customers as they walk in. I get stares and “what do you want” when I know the service can be better than that. The server I had left me for about 10 mins after I was seated and she was replaced by someone else who was actually nicer. Unfortunately, my egg roll was lukewarm and the meal I ordered was completely inedible. It was fried extra crispy with bones in it, so I was unsure of what was meat, cartilage or bone. When I asked for a substitute, two different people came to explain to me that they would not do that and that the food was good. It was not. I had two bites and was frustrated by the lack of meat and the work it took to decipher the food. My nice server was the only person who apologized to me about the order. I wish I got his name, because he was the only person who tried to help me get my order right, but in the end, the manager would not get me something different. I understand that sometimes people go to restaurants from different cultures and may not understand the food, but there was nothing edible about the crunchy- cartilage-ness of the food. The customer service was not up to my expectations, even if I’m familiar with how they treat me when I go there. I will not be going back.

This is one of my favorite chinese restaurant in Jackson, MS. Although the cooking style is nowhere near "authentic", their food is several notches better than all the many "americanized chinese" restaurants and take-outs in town. I've been all over Mississippi and this is the only place you can find Chinese-style roast duck, and it taste close to the ones I had in Hong Kong! It's the reason i come to this place very often since they opened years back. Among my other favorites are the sautéed sweet pea leaves, bokchoy with mushrooms , fried soft tofu with bean sauce, steamed fish, pig feet, fried pig intestines, and many more! Other items on the menu are also good but same as you would find in other asian/chinese place. Mr. Chen's is casual dining, their store is clean, conducive and cozy all year round and their staff are very accommodating, although sometimes they play with their celfones a lot! Overall, it's a good dining experience. Aside from the restaurant, they also have an asian grocery store within the building, complete with fresh and frozen meat, poultry and sea produce and a decent selections of asian goodies.

I went for the first time after a friend recommended it. I was with a large group and we all ordered a different dish and it was so much food and it was the best I have ever had. We all ate plenty and there was still plenty left that we took to go boxes home. The service was wonderful. I can't remember our servers name but she was very nice and attentive. Great authentic Chinese food at an affordable price. The menu is extensive, catering to all tastes. Vegetarian dishes are flavorful and there is a wide selection. They also serve seafood, chicken, beef and pork dishes as well. Try the soups, usually served for two. Most dishes are served family style. Friendly service, but the food is cooked to order. Definitely worth the wait, though.

Food was good. They have a lot of variety and most of it is fairly unique but the things I have had from here are not anything abnormally good in comparison to other Chinese restaurants that aren't just a buffet or "fast food." The service was good at first but when we hadn't made up our mind after the second time our waiter came we were just kind of... Ignored? We tried to signal him down quite a few times when we were ready to order and we had to wait about 45 minutes or so after we ate to we have been here for about an hour and a half or more. In the first place, he asked for our order before even asking for a drink order( we had barely even opened the menu at this point) so I feel as if it wasn't too say we had not made up our mind on the food. As a sidenote: they had fresh sesame balls about the size of tennis balls available at the counter on the market side that were very tasty. Not a lot of red bean paste inside but the outside was tasty enough without. (Assuming that they were made in the kitchen I figured this was relevant for the restaurant.)

Looking for the best Chinese food in Jackson at a reasonable price? Look no more. It’s Mr. Chen’s. Don’t be turned away by the restaurant being attached to an Asian market. It’s actually really incredible to step into another culture, and you should walk around the store and take it all in! The best meal there (in my opinion) is the General Tso’s chicken. Grab the pan-fried dumplings as a starter and enjoy!

Chen is the most authentic Chinese restaurant you can find here in Jackson, but it's still very Americanized. I have to admit out of all of the Chinese restaurants in Jackson, my family and I usually come here because it's convenient after we grocery shop. Their food isn't bad, I just stick to the few dishes that I usually get because everything new that I've tried been a disappointment. They have a new menu with pics and new items! My American friends love this place though.

My favorite Chinese restaurant in the Jackson metro area! Ever since they opened, I have been a big fan. I've eaten there at least 20 times if not more, every time has been more than enjoyable. We have started having family birthday dinner's at this place. I usually get either the Mongolian beef or the tofu with Crispy Bean blend, both are phenomenal here. I've had most of the menu and I can say everything I've tried I have loved.

Most times, the food is wonderful. Other times, it's bland and not worth the money. Avoid the beef and broccoli and sweet rice balls. Order steamed buns, any of the dumplings, and the sesame chicken. I never leave without ordering iced thai milk tea.

Lots of interesting choices, including some very traditional things. Everything is well-seasoned and they make good use of fresh cilantro, spicy peppers, and other quality ingredients. Portions are generous and we can rarely finish what we order. You can eat very inexpensively here and get a great meal even if you're on a budget, or you can splurge and get fancier things like fresh lobster or Dungeness crab. Great for take-out too. Save time to shop in the huge Asian market.

This is a nice, quiet and elegant Chinese diner but for some unknown reason, the staffs at the restaurant seemed weirdly shy? Although they were welcoming and helpful. The quality of food is not bad, but definitely nowhere near the most authentic I’ve eaten in the states. The seasoning isn’t far off: the chicken is a bit too sweet for my taste but I’ve come to realize that most Americans like sweeter Chinese food. The snow pea sprouts and garlic pork were solid.

I've been to this location twice. I love the sezchuan beef noodle soup, steamed dumplings, crab wontons, shrimp dumplings, wonton soup,and the orange chicken as well. Service is quick and friendly. I would not recommend the pork short ribs, but everything else I've tried has been wonderful. The market itself has quite a variety at very good prices!

A lot of food for a reasonable price

Ordered 3 meals with rice and they decided 2 give me 2 rice instead of the 3. Who does this.

If you want authentic Chinese food, then this is the restaurant for you! Not only is it a restaurant, but it is also an Asian/Chinese supermarket! I have taken clients here who are frpm Asia and they have told me about how this restaurant has authenticity. So if you are looking for authentic Chinese cuisine, this is the place for you!

Good food at a great price. When you walk in you are in the grocery store, then veer over into the restaurant. If you let the grocery store thing put you off, you'll miss some good food. We had 8 different dishes at our table - I tasted a few and only one I didn't love the broccoli beef. I really enjoyed the asparagus combination (asked for spicy). The staff was very nice and understanding when our 2.5-year-old dumped his water cup. I'd come back.

Yummy. We had egg rolls, egg drop soup, spicy sliced pork ears, short ribs with black pepper and Taiwanese Rice Noodle combo (with beef and shrimp). Everything was delicious. Seasoned and cooked just right. The spicy sliced pork ears stole the show though. They are a thrill for the mouth!! Wow. It seemed as if my mouth had been asleep and those pork ears woke it up. Perfect. A must try!!
