REVIEWS OF W. A. Frost and Company IN Minnesota

Lee Nelson

Very nice atmosphere and ambience for summer dining. (We chose the patio.) It was a lovely evening - food and service were excellent. I don't get to St. Paul as much as I should, but if you're looking for a special place for a nice dinner, this is a solid choice. We even walked around the inside and outside of the restaurant after our meal just to appreciate the historic building / architecture.

Kerry Kaiser

We got married here and we could not have been more pleased with the way everything was handled. They were more than accommodating with our food selection for our menu, and we had our own staff for the event who took glorious care of us and our family. We go back every year for our anniversary. The food and service is always the best! Highly, highly recommend!

Sue Falldin

Great outdoor dining area. Appetizers, entrees and service was all good. We had 3 different desserts with the creme brulee being wonderful but the chocolate panacotta and hyacinth cake not worth the calories. The server credited our check for those.

Alison Hopkins

I was pleasantly surprised by this place! The patio is phenomenal! I came for lunch and got the house salad. YUMM! I’m from CA and eat my weight in salads. I can say this is one of the best salads I’ve ever had. Fresh baby greens and herbs mixed in. Yumm! I also came for cocktails later in the day. Very impressed! I wish they had a restaurant twin in CA!

Molly Schuneman

Fun patio seating, yummy foods, and great wine choices

Matt Martinez

Had a wonderful Sunday dinner with my mother here. The food was so tasty and well prepared. The Service was excellent and our waiter was nice and hospitable. I had the New York Strip and my mother had the chicken, each were prepared to perfection. Nice atmosphere inside and out. Elegant dinning inside and more casual on the patio.

Chris Golden

Patio is amazing, food is great and the service was fantastic!

Bill Ventura

WA Frost went into the Summit-Grand area of St Paul when the neighborhood was revived in the late sixties, and stands proudly today as one of St Paul's Hallmark eateries. Overpriced and with a cigar smoke, and leather interior this stuffy interterior seeps nostelgic images of gangsters and polititions cozenng up to make big deals for themselves. The Pattio was my mother's favorite for years in the summer. A great outdoors supper club that doesn't make many gastronomy mistakes but rather combines excellent food with impeccable service. Unpretentious reminder of our Bergoff with Minnesota fare including my mother's walleye dinner.

Gus

Beautiful restaurant inside and out on the patio.

Jonathan Remund

What can I say great outdoor seating.

Dawn Roth

Would love to say it was a great experience, but the menu has gotten stale and repeative. Our server seemed like she was less than happy to be working. The atmosphere has gotten dusty and worn-out. Furniture in the lobby has sadly telling this story ALL to well. Frost was my go to place for a magical evening out with my husband, but after 3 visits with less than impressive results, we hunt for a new location for date night.

Brandon Wold

This place is completely Jazz Age. If you’re looking for fine dining or a unique cocktail lounge, W.A. Frost and Company is a great pick. The patio is a great place to relax or mingle during the summer. We especially enjoy the basement lounge and dim, swanky ambience.

Dr. Joe

Basement seating was cozy but they should update the furniture. Lotsa waiting. They would be getting four stars if service was at least “normal” rather than the feeling that we were forgotten. For example, we gave up waiting for menus and just went upstairs and grabbed some. The food was above average, though. Cocktails were average and beer was good.

Alexandra Harley

I enjoyed my visit here. The patio is gorgeous and the staff are amazing. I will visit here again when I visit the twin cities in the future!

Michael Ahlf

Menu, patio and service. The food is wonderful and the patio is summertime gorgeous. Our server, Chad was both attentive and efficient and combined that professionalism with an encyclopedic knowledge of all things wine related. My wife and I had a memorable dinner at Frost.

Jamie Bloomer

There for bridal tea. Lovely venue

Uri Neren

best setting in st paul. amazing patio, very cool bar and basement. furniture needs updating/ repair. food is ok but rarely great. service is the worst in the cities and has always been for decades - its clearly a management issue: the staff always seem disgruntled - poorly treated maybe? Treatment of customers is poor to rude, and staff may or may not be a bit bigoted. I probably will keep coming back for the building/environment though.

Jose Angel Tollens

Food was tasty with a delightful atmosphere

Keith & Patty Christenson

Be prepared on a hot day. We went when it was 92 degrees outside and they have no air conditioning. It was hard to enjoy our dinner. The food was delicious and the waiter was knowledgeable.

Justin Michlig

Love getting a great meal on the patio.

Matthew Craig

Excellent tea! Very upscale atmosphere. Perfect place for a brunch/lunch with cocktails

Brian B

The food here is always good! However, this particular night service was a bit slow but the quality of food made up for it!

Tristan Pollock

Unique, delicious restaurant with a historic twist and inventive food. My wife and I came here on our 13 anniversary because we ate here for one of our first nice dates years ago. The plates have only gotten better. The patio is amazing. The service also great. We are vegetarian and loved our options. Try the bruschetta for a sure win, the celery and fennel for something interesting, and the wild mushroom pasta for a killer main course. We loved our meals and will definitely be back for another celebration.

Chuck Wiltens

I cant believe what a great experience we had here. The service was impeccable, the food was so incredibly delicious, and the patio dining was wonderful. An absolute must for a relaxing meal. We loved it!!!

Tom Schwarze

One of the best restaurant experiences I've had in the twin cities.

Brett Bennett

Excellent food and drinks, authentic atmosphere, friendly wait staff, and unique happy hour menu. Excellent choice for any occasion. The house mushroom soup and charcuterie comes highly recommended.

William Boland

The food has never been out of this world or anything but it certainly is high quality and reliably good. I typically come for the drinks, ambiance, basement in winter, and patio in the summer. Hard to top a better lounge or patio anywhere in the state. Usually quality service but can be hit or miss.

elle rasmussen

The food is amazing. It's unfortunate that the experience I had yesterday was 1000% better than the service I had when I hosted my staff holiday lunch here. The staff was rude and dismissive. We were hardly waited on and we were talked down to throughout our very spendy meal while other customers were spoken to pleasantly by the same wait staff. And no, the place was not busy. There was no reasonable rationale for the way we were treated. The wait staff became super attentive and apologetic at the end of our meal and AFTER I said the whole bill would be on one check. The only difference between my first experience and this time was that I was with a group of white people. I'm hesitant to return.

Nicole Tramm

The testing menu is a nice way to spend an evening with a loved one. Also, try the patio If the weather is nice.

ANNE Johnson

The most wonderful patio in the Twin Cities. The food and service were great too.

Geno Gardner

Ordered a black angus hamburger and fries. It arrived in a reasonable time even though it was rush hour at lunch time. It was a seriously good burger with nicely green greens on it. Not the white lettuce so common on burgers. Fries alone were worth the trip. I don’t know how they get the fries so crispy without burning them.

Marjorie Hetling

We had a wonderful luncheon there. It was so pleasant sitting in the outdoor area. The food was outstanding and perfectly cooked. If I am lucky enough to return to Minneapolis I will visit.

Brandon Ng

The wine flights were super good value. Our waitress provided amazing service. Patio was well shaded and had a calm ambiance. Then the sun went down and all the lights came on and it was beautiful. Definitely recommend a visit to the patio this summer. Great experience for sure!

Alisa Yang

Took my boyfriend here for his 24th birthday. He enjoyed it a lot! The interior was amazing, really romantic and a calm setting. The wine option was off the list. The waiter was terrific and even celebrated his birthday with us by singing with me to him. I had a great time and will definitely be going back!

Noah Morris

classy. good place for two 20's gang bosses to meet and talk business. i reccomend pretending you are a gangster and coming here with friends. also, the cheese board.

Suzanne Durkacs

Cozy, friendly atmosphere. Excellent service and food. I had the shrimp roll and salad. Very tasty. Kölsch was good too. All beers on the menu are local, no need for Budweiser. Street parking can be scarce. Patio seating in the summer time as well. Not to worry, there are so many different dining rooms to choose from, it’s all good.

loj leeb

The basement lounge is the best. The dinner/brunch is mediocre & overpriced. Seriously, work on it, please.

Josh Welch

We had a wonderful lunch for my wife's birthday. The food was great and the service was personable and precise. The historical surroundings make for a memorable experience on top of everything else. I recommend this place and look forward to returning.

Kate Schultz

Lovely ambience. Food is interesting and delicious. Server was terrific.

Pat Dobier

Great mussels. Great service. Wonderful patio

J Waterous

W. A. Frost and Company has a popular garden seating area. You'll be wise to make reservations. Selections for Brunch are very inviting with a full bar and superlative appetizer menus.

Jessica Gross

Incredible place, amazing atmosphere, the food is delicious with beautiful presentation. Staff is knowledgeable and very friendly. Cannot wait to come back.

Kate Knutson

Cool old building! Tree is a basement that's Dark and nostalgic with little coves to eat In.

VictorNiss

Upscale bar with intimate atmosphere. The bar itself is decent with a nice beer selection on tap. Scotch selection is impressive as well! Their cocktails are good as too, however very pricey, and although they sound great on the menu some of them don't mix quite as well as you would hope. The food is incredibly excellent, with their appetizers being prefect to share with a few friends. Flavors are crossed well and traditional fare takes on new profiles, giving you unexpected new experiences. It's American cuisine but reminiscent of British pallette with things like Curried Spinach Dip. My suggestion, bring some good companions and head down to the basement lounge. Their cocktail servers are very attentive and there are plenty of small nooks to retreat into. Take your time to order the right drink for you and share a few appetizers! I can guarantee it will be a pleasant experience.

Jake Reynolds

One of my favorite relax places. Basement in the winter. Beautiful patio/ garden outdoor bar in the summer.

Cathy Kennedy

The patio is beautiful, service was excellent and the Mussels were the best I've had.

Laurel Tornes

Wonderful building, beautiful romantic atmosphere, amazing appetizers wonderful dinner cocktails unbelievable very impressive evening.

Troy Gilchrist

Didn't enjoy the experience. Love the building, but the $17 hamburger was way overcooked. Medium well apparently means hockey puck. Sent it back and the next one was only slightly better.

Andy Soto

The interior decor gives the restaurant an upscale feel while still feeling intimate, the art on wall and around the place make it feel like the walls can talk. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Our waiter was very friendly and and helpful about the menu. I recommend trying the “chefs menu” it gives you a taste of many things you might be interested and is well worth it. (If you order the chef’s menu and someone you are with orders a regular entree they will receive their food when you are on the 3rd plate of the chef’s tasting menu). The food is very flavorful and fresh. The atmosphere also adds on the the overall feel of the place making your experience pleasant and memorable especially on a special day. I would ask for a table that isn’t near a door passage way for traffic, or need an exit due to the cold breeze.

Leon J

Great patio, top-notch cuisine and beverages, and our server Kelly was impeccable. Fantastic experience!

Fosu Mia

Brilliant atmosphere, and service was second to none. The Manhattan drink was amazing! Absolutely loved the concept of tiny desserts.

Gary Pederson

Atmosphere is wonderful. Food was a bit on the salty side tonight which isn't the norm.

Christa Rheingans

Best patio in the twin cities, hands down!

Lyndsey Fraser

Great food and cute atmosphere!

Chase Nelson

First of all, the patio of this place is unrivaled. Everything I had was wonderful, including the service. The entree I had was one of the most unique takes I have had on salmon. All around great experience, highly recommend.

Robert Deeb

Food is marginal when you factor in the price. The service was great. Chef needs to offer a wider variety of dishes that are recognizable.

Joyce Malle

It's on the top 10 favorites for my husband. Says a lot because we eat out a lot.

Brent Peterson

Food is not great but the patio is amazing

E Yazbeck

Dinner was a average, expected better. Nice outdoor dining.

Malena Ink

Fabulous dining room, cute little bar on a rainy afternoon, and one of the best patios in town.

MaryAnn Buck

Best outdoor patio dining in the Twin cities.

Garek Berard

W.A. Frost is the anchor restaurant for Selby. The historic building and decor are beautiful and the food is excellent. The downstairs bar is a truly great dark corner of St. Paul.

Peggy Patton

Very good... I had the salmon it was delicious, my husband had the burger with a salad, my friends had a steak salad, and the pasta dish. We all had the brushetta it has a ricotta mixture... The flavors are delightful... The restaurant itself is so beautiful...

Eric Johnson

Foragers burger was one of the best burgers I've ever had, fantastic atmosphere, fantastic service. Planning on bringing my girlfriend for her birthday.

Edwin Garbutt

We have eaten here 5 times. 2 out of the five experiences were above average, 2 were mediocre, and one was a complete disappointment. Pros: The wait staff has always been stellar, no exceptions. The atmosphere is outstanding (the outdoor patio area is beautiful and the indoor dining is a traditional and cozy space with a fireplace). They have a happy hour. Cons: It’s often crowded so plan to make a reservation or show very early or very late if you want a seat of your choice, such as on the patio or near the fireplace. The dinner menu is a bit limited and the quality of food has been unreliable. We had 2 out of 5 good meals here. A .400 average for such a popular and relatively expensive restaurant is not acceptable. The bad meal included muscles that were starting to turn, a pasta mezze meniche that was over seasoned with red pepper flakes (or whatever hot spice is used) and yellow curry vegetables that were plain and unremarkable. I suppose the popularity survives on the great atmosphere, location and reputation from a better time. I can’t imagine anyone with a discerning palate frequenting WA Frost for a serious dining experience. I would relegate it to a great place for an enjoyable outdoor happy hour.

Molly J

I always love the atmosphere here, no matter where you're seated or when you're there. It's like stepping through time with their architecture and tiny details they've kept and chosen to add. I've also never had a bad meal here and the staff are always very professional and pleasant; I've even been here at a last-minute large-party meal after a wedding rehearsal and they handled it very well for what they were hit with. Their patio in the summer months is enchanting. I SO miss living within walking distance!

Kara Wagner Sherer

Wonderful food, beautiful night in the patio!

Matt Karason

Very tasty meal. From the appetizer, main course to the desert. Service was good and setting romantic. Loved it.

Kate Owens

My husband and I went for our wedding anniversary. Service was great, food was fantastic! Could not have had a more lovely evening.

Anders Rasch

Nice atmosphere (even on a rainy day), tasty food.

Kari Arimond

I've been here a number of times. They have such a wonderful variety of spaces, and have had wonderful experiences at each. I number of years ago to celebrate, my husband and I enjoyed their chef's tasting menu and the experience was wonderful. Their outdoor patio is beautiful. On a nice day it is a beautiful space that really provides you a relaxing spot in the city. Their bar has wonderful servers, a comfortable space, and a relaxed atmosphere.

John Gallo

Great food and atmosphereon back deck...

Heidi Buss

Patio great food is just average

Andie Merrell

Loved... Romance, wine, amazing food and service!

Kelly Harlan

Great food and great atmosphere!

Brittany Collatz

Not a great event coordinator. When we met with the event coordinator we gave her a limit to what we wanted to spend, and she was to let us know when we were near our limit. She never passed the information on and our bill was $1200 more than we told her our budget was. I never saw her once at our event except outside on a break. I think the waitresses were great, and the location is obviously beautiful, but the event coordinator was AWFUL. I would not recommend planning your wedding here. Her manager was no help, either. Very upsetting to have your budget exceed $1200 on your wedding day.

Emily King

Wonderful atmosphere for a date night or dinner with friends. The food is pricey but delicious. My cocktail (off the menu) was only OK but my date's was very tasty.

Brian Rochel

Amazing ambiance and great food! We’ve been going for years, one of the best restaurants in town.

Robert Chickey

Classic architecture and fantastic food. An unbeatable combination.

Gerhard Reichert

Fantastic garden atmosphere and terrific food

Jeff Roberts

Great atmosphere. Wonderful ambience. Really good menu. Service is amazing.

Ludvig Stone

Fantastic service from minute one. The hostess at the front of the house was cheerful and wished us a Happy Anniversary (we had dinner reservations). Our server was prompt, friendly, made great suggestions, and answered questions about the menu really well. Also he checked on us often and brought us the bill/rang us up right away. Water was filled right away, all night too.

Deedee S

The food was wonderful. Loved the cheese plate and the steak. I've never had a grilled cheese sandwich like this and I didn't share. A little disappointed in the server. We didn't really feel welcomed but we still enjoyed ourselves. The creme brulee was the best.

Paul Kyser

Very good food and generous wine pours...the sevice is incredibly slow... very friendly but wow....dont go for a quick lunch

Coralis Rodriguez

For years we've been coming to the restaurant and enjoying their high-quality food and service. However, our experience last Saturday was a disaster. We received service so poor we ended up leaving right away. Our waitress, clearly in a disgruntled state, greeted us with "what do you want?" and a scowl in her face. We ordered the Chef's Tasting, a tradition of ours when in W.A. Frost. She seemed annoyed and asked us if we were sure, shortly walking away from us. After a few minutes she came back with the Specialty Menus and asked "Do you know what you are doing" and "Do you understand what you are getting yourselves into?" She kept pushing us to order drinks even though we had decline them several times already. We decided to find another restaurant to enjoy our evening in, our time at W.A. Frost looking less than promising.

Abe Fischer

My Wife and I had our wedding here and it was incredible. Everything went smooth and the rates were very reasonable. I highly recommend eating here as well. The food is always delicious.

Dean DeGroot

Great patio, good service, and tasty appetizers.

Daniel Hallstrom

Wonderful patio, excellent food and great staff. Also, they made my wife's scrambled eggs perfectly, not rock hard or rubbery.

Heather S

We had a table of six and a reservation for 7:15, we were finally seated at 8:35 at a very small snug table. We all ordered the chef's tasting menu with wine pairing. The food was fantastic and our waiter was professional but the hour and twenty minute wait was insane. Tables could have been pushed together in the time it took for the small table to open up. Overall I would recommend if you have a lot of time and don't mind sitting around waiting for your reservation.

Travis Heitman

We enjoyed a wonderful meal in a beautiful setting. Loved the Christmas decorations it added a great touch. Food was fantastic my girlfriend enjoyed the Bistro Steak while I had the Braised Pork Shank. Both were terrific. Can't wait to return!

chris kovacic

Really great food. Don't be in a hurry, this is a fine dining experience. Also, don't monkey around with the soup and sandwiches. The portions are tiny. Get the entree right away.

Michael Stearney

Beautiful place in a quaint old neighborhood in St. Paul. The building is on the National Registry of Historic Places, but in the summer, you really want to eat on the patio-- one of the nicest in the city. Excellent lunch spot, but reservations needed for the patio if you arrive after about 11:15. Great food, great service. Not the cheapest place to dine, but worth every penny.

Emma Hixson

Quality cuisine on beautiful patio in good weather

Billy G.

Very mediocre dinner menu. Great patio though.

David Aussendorf

Cannot do better then WA Frost patio on a warm late September night. Great food, drinks and spending it with friends all the better.

Jesse Miller

Love the patio; probably the best patio in St. Paul. Service is almost always excellent, and food, while sometimes unimaginative, is always above average in flavor.

Ximena Tejada

Great food, great atmosphere

Dawn McCarthy

Best Place For A Quiet Dinner For Two! The Staff Is The Best!

Dianne Mistelske

My first visit to A. W. Frost but hopefully not my last. Beautiful and very unique place with lovely artwork, period furniture and just lots of cool and quaint things. The service was excellent and wonderful food. I highly recommend the bruschetta...unlike any I have ever tasted...amazing. A lovely rose (Spain) wine. Excellent venue.

Robert Bolstad

This establishment is wonderful. The staff were friendly and courteous.

Pam Capp

Terrible service. Slow. Some food never arrived and they were irked we didn’t want to pay for food we didn’t get. Those who got their food got cold food. Called to express unhappiness with experience. Still waiting for a response. An apology would be nice.

Tia Leoni

Good food. Great gathering spot to meet the girls. Miss the soft seating on the patio.

Terry Mallberg

Beautiful patio, gourds food

Tim Hoekstra

Timeless neighborhood bar...great patio

Jason Goldberg

Unfortunately slow service on a Friday night (3hrs?!). Lamb was terribly undercooked (ordered med rare, came rare+). Did not justify its reputation.

Barbara Crist-Nepp

Great atmosphere. Great food. Excellent service. Love hanging out both inside and on the patio.

Hazel O'Connor

Best service, great food, love the atmosphere & the beautiful patio bar. Just the nicest place.

Ann Zed

One of my favorite places for a cool interior in the winter and great outdoor seating for summer. Good drinks.

Erin Olson

Best patio in the metro! Since becoming pregnant, this has become my favorite spot for virgin cocktails--awesome selection and super refreshing!

Laramie Otto

We know that anytime we go to WA Frost it will be amazing. They have so many beautiful, historic spaces to enjoy - the main restaurant offers delicious, creative food and stellar service, the patio is unmatched and feels just magical, and the basement lounge is the best place to enjoy spiced mead on a chilly winter night. We have never been disappointed and have always been treated with the utmost respect. Great food, interesting cocktails, and wonderful ambiance await!

Mark Holten

We ate in the bar and it was crowded. The food was great: beet salad with cheese was fabulous, and the mussels were even better. The only knock was that the single waiter was a bit overwhelmed. Not his fault, they should was brought someone else to help.

PJ Johnson

My wife and I have been coming here for years now and honestly they just do all the right things! From the seemingly uncomplicated yet fresh and thought out menu items to the inventive drink flights and craft cocktails, W.A. Frost doesn't screw around. If you haven't dined here in the summer or fall yet I highly recommend the patio! Cheers!

Tracy Cavalier

The service and food we're 2nd to none. Even though there were 17 in our party, it was a very relaxing and spacious area.

Brandon Cummings

We had burgers and the pork sandwich which were really good. Drinks were a bit on the strong side so if you like a stiff drink you'll like it here. Some of the food has interesting extras like lavender and thyme to give a different spin on flavor. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. Overall this place is very good and reasonably priced. We'll definitely go back again. The patio was beautiful.

j Stewart

This a converted early 1900's pharmacy. This place has great food and ambiance with a historic flair. The food is great with a varied menu for all tastes. There is a restaurant and a bar and lounge. The bar has great drinks for the traditionalist and for the adventurous as well as for the nondrinkers. Great place to sit and relax. Great place to take someone new to the area.

Daniel Goldberg

Nice patio, especially at dusk when the heat of the summer wanes to a comfortable, cricket filled ambiance. I had port, and it was good. The mini dessert sampler was good as well. A little expensive, so if you are on a budget it might be too much.

biggyjrc

Great ambiance once you get to the lower level. They have alcoves for a more intimate experience.

Michael Zigler

Went our with another couple to celebrate the holidays. Service here was fine, our table felt like it was placed in a hallway. Food was okay but unspectular. Hadn't been here in years was looking forward to a steak, however they only had one on the menu 8 oz tenderloin for $50. I thought it was overpriced. Just my opinion.

Gerardo Alarcon

Everything was perfect until we received the food. The steak was fatty, tough and gross. The fish was salty and tasted like cheap tilapia. I'm really dissapointed because it was our anniversary and we were really looking forward to this. At least the service was good at the spinach dip was alright.

Darya Jackson

Charming cozy place. Food is a deviation from mainstream palate, I guess that's what the loyal customers value.

Nicole Larson

Patio is wonderful. Cheese plate never disappoints. Burger is good too.

Randy Bey

Such a patio! The charcuterie plate is fantastic, the beer list is good, and the bruschetta only so-so.

Pippela Pam

We did the tasting menu and it was fabulous. Sitting on the patio with excellent and attentive wait staff made for a perfect evening. Any questions on pairings and they can help and they know the entire menu.

Matthias Kittok

We love this restaurant. Such good service and the food never fails to delight.

Aaron Forsman

Patio is always open and enjoyable. Get there before 5 to grab a great seat and some cheap apps and watch the nightlife pour in!!

Coreen Pierson

Gorgeous atmosphere. Cucumber soup

Andrew Pedersen

Great cocktails, great atmosphere, great patio, great food!

Michelle Ferrari

I have dined at this establishment 4 times since July for both Brunch and Dinner. The service and food have been outstanding. The manager Paul has always stopped at our table to make sure everything is perfect. As a former restaurant manager I appreciate his attentiveness and fine eye for detail.

Jeff Digre

Fantastic everything! Perfect place for my wife and I to celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary. So happy to have a fancy place that serves an entire multi-course vegetarian meal

Jennifer Pennington

Best patio in the Twin Cities!

Joel Stegner

Great for a special occasion or just a quick lunch. Lovely surroundings and interesting, tasty menu.

Mary

Wonderful place for dinner and drinks. Happy hour was beautiful on the patio. The inside was gorgeous and reminded me of an old London building. Make sure to go downstairs. The food was amazing and the wine deal on Mondays is such a good price! We had a lot of fun and had a great server and food.

Melissa Clawson

Great service, unique cocktails, love the ever changing menu! And no one can get enough of that patio!

Grant Chadwick

It took 10 minutes after sitting down for our waitress to take our drink orders. Took even longer to take our dinner orders. The menu selections were lame and they only had 1 kind of steak. The order of steak was made for rare and without the cherry compote, the steak that arrived was well-done with the compote scraped off. (poorly) the rest of our dinner orders were bland and unremarkable. The waitress come off as annoyed and apathetic to our issues. After all that, we made the mistake of ordering dessert which took another 30+ min. We ended up spending over 3 hours there for a simple meal + dessert. The best thing I can say about this experience is the dessert and spinach dip were both very good. The resteraunt was fairly full but it didn't appear that they were understaffed or super busy. We have gotten much, much better service here before when it was more busy. We've been coming here once or twice a year for decades but I think this will be our last time.

Ryan Ingels

The patio is amazing! Great food and good sevice!!

Ben Schmid

Fantastic place for a special date, service was great as our waitress was always available but not hovering over our table. Awesome atmosphere as well!

Chris Klim

The bar had a great menu and lower level seating was very cool!

Jane Natoli

Cool basement, nice bar, alright beer selection, though it can get a bit loud down there

Joel Schultz

Great food and one of the most romantic atmospheres you could imigane. it was winter when I went and amazing but in the summer its magical! Food was excellent but if your really hungry probably not the best choice. I would highly recommend this place for special occasions!

Jessie McClary

Best patio, and fantastic cocktails.

Andrew Simon

A great upscale place for dinner and drinks. The staff is prompt and courteous while the food is delicious. They have a good selection of drinks that pair well with their menu. Pricey but the atmosphere, food and staff are on point.

Luke Wiley

This place has been awesome for a long time! From a wedding rehearsal 15 years ago to an impromptu anniversary dinner, they impress! Great menu that changes with nice specials, and wonderful service. Phoenix is a great waitress too.

Ra Ry

This is a unique restaurant and bar. Love the patio: great spot to bring the in laws for a meal.

Dawn Hughes

Great outdoors space like a garden heaven!

Brian Phipps

Stopped by late on a Sunday, great drinks and food. The outside patio and downstairs lounge here are amazing. I would definitely stop by if you're in town.

Oliver Fanz

Atmosphere and service are great but for a fine dining restaurant, the food was a bit disappointing. All the dishes were a bit over salted ( true comment from all 4 of us - and I like salt). I don't mind paying $34 for a good stake but it really then has to be as good or better than Outback or the local stake place, and it wasn't.

Lizabeth Kyser

Beautiful restaurant and patio. No better setting in St. Paul. Service is consistently slow. So slow. So be ready to enjoy a great meal and ambiance, but don't go with a timeline.

Jeannie Hill

Outdoor dining on the patio is well shaded and provides a calm ambiance for a business meeting, pleasure eating, or a romantic dinner. The tree-lined, multi-level English gardens are host to weddings, simple gatherings, and elaborate dinners. As the sun sets, all the lights came on, and in cooler months like last night, the staff works to try keeping the patio heaters well-stocked with propane. This extends our Minnesota seasons for outdoor eating; it is beautiful with its blooming plants, umbrella tables, stone pathways, outdoor couches, and soft lighting. It is simply my favorite place for outdoor dining in the Twin Cities. One of my friends consistently orders the wings for an appetizer and a Black Angus hamburger with fresh green greens on it for their entree. I trust their chef and try new seasonal selections. We frequently try the bruschetta as it changes up and is always good. This time it was made with bruschetta, grapes, and goat cheese and is totally amazing. The celery and fennel salad blends are fabulous flavors together, the mussels in curry sauce with lime leaves, and the wild mushroom pasta will make you want an encore. I've also had the smoked salmon, Artisan cheese plates, and squash soup - all were tasty. Our meals, the service, and the atmosphere made the evening a celebration and a treasured memory. I definitely recommend a visit to W.A. Frost. You’ll have a great experience whether your chose to eat on the patio, indoors at the bar, or reserve a table inside for a special dining experience over the holidays! The moment that you step into W.A. Frost, you can feel the history of the place. Check out the hall wall of awards to understand how breathtaking the place it and its culinary status. Even on rainy afternoons, the place is cozy and evokes a warm sense of enjoying a legend. There are always vegetarian menu options and usually gluten free crackers, unless it is late in the day and they have run out of them. A children's menu makes family dining ideal, too. Owner/investor John Rupp has done an amazing job of renovating the building and inspiring the entire Cathedral Hill neighborhood to reinvent itself.

Great patio with very food food and drink

The outdoor patio, in the warmth of summertime, is obviously the place to sit. It's surrounded by tall trees, the historic building, strung-up lights and a garden of sorts with tons of seating. The portions are decent, the drinks are ice cold and strong, and honestly - if you're feeling all of these aspects of the dinner/brunch/happy hour - you're already winning. It's a cute spot. Check it out.

Service was not great. Food good but new menu interesting.

My review can only cover drinks as I have never had food here. This place has my favorite old fashioned in the twin cities! The Negroni is flawless and the Manhattan is incredible. These three are, in my opinion, their big hitters but all their drinks are stunning. The atmosphere inside is charming and downstairs speakeasy style basement is full of comfy seats and little side rooms, I always try and sit in one of the little side rooms. The patio here is beautiful in the summer as well. When you visit, expect to drop some cash but the quality is so good it's always worth it!

Food was not good. Almost cold when it arrived. Waiter did apologize. Potatoes were burned and very salty. Atmosphere was lovely outside. Wait staff very nice.

Thursdays are the best. The bartender is fantastic. Frost has easily the best ambiance as well as bourbon and scotch selection for the area.

One of my favorites in the twin cities. I love that the patio, basement, bar, and dining area are all so different yet all feel so nice. I love summer days spent here and I also love winter days sitting by the fire down stairs. From 2-5 there is a reasonable afternoon menu. I always find the drinks and cocktails to be delicious. And the food to be filling and so so good. It’s worth it to feel like an elite for an afternoon.

Nice little mainstay of St Paul neighborhood restaurants. The menu is varied with lots of American/Western European options. Sandwiches, salads, soups, lighter entrees, and a create your own cheese plate! Overall, nice location with a great patio for the warmer months. Not sure of the interior environment too much, but it has a rich wood throughout. Seriously recommend this place, but expect a slightly higher price point for a cafe.
