This Restaurant is included in the category of Cocktail bar.
My husband and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary here last night. The waiter was friendly and very knowledgeable. He knew where all the meat and cheese had been sourced from. He made wonderful suggestions and didn't steer us wrong the whole night. The food was lovely and the atmosphere was elegant. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
Don't know about their food yet. They have vast choice of drinks. Nice place to hangout with friends.
Nick, our server, was friendly and informative. Husbands were happy with their meals. One enjoyed walleye and one had tasty flank steak. Wives were very disappointed with bolognese. Noodles way too firm or hard and sauce was extremely dry. Needs more broth/wine. Another review on this entree was not great so consider removing from menu or rework recipe. At high price make it great or don't do it at all. We've tasted much better at 1/2 the price. Restaurant did credit our bill for which we were grateful. The ambience of Commodore is old fashioned fun. Drinks were decent too.
Visited earlier this summer and had drinks and dinner at the bar. Then and there we decided to visit for dinner and thought a date night was the perfect opportunity. Our server Nick was a riot and even brought two straws in our Moscato. Long story but it was an amazing 3 hours spent in a wonderfully warm, elegant and historic local. Food was fantastic as well.
Amazing! Walking in and I feel great. The atmosphere and the food are just superb.
Very neat. Old, nostalgic feeling with a ton of elegance.
Went late near closing, got the story that the roof was leaking, seriously!
Cool speak easy/roaring 20s type place. Food was good, atmosphere fun.
Great space, feels like old school St.Paul. Food was tasty. Drinks were solid. Great service.
Awesome service and a very cool place to have dinner or a drink. Good first date place!
Great atmosphere and good. The service has been very slow every time we have visited and because of this there is more time between visits.
We had our wedding reception in their event space, and it was wonderful! The staff was great to work with, and the food and drinks were delicious! I’ve eaten there for dinner, as well, and have always enjoyed the food and service. I highly recommend them whether it’s for cocktails, dinner, or a private event.
Very cool atmosphere. We had drinks and appetizers and both were good. Not sure they were worth the price but the service and atmosphere made up for it.
Now the Red Cow, I was on a casual business dinner and this place was a great choice. Superb service, and the best gluten free bun I’ve ever tried!
Slow service for the price
I chose the Commodore for my birthday celebration, and the experience exceeded our expectations! Our server Nick was fabulous, and we never felt rushed during our 4.5 hour dinner. I found the menu to be excellent. Prepared and served to perfection.
Food and cocktails are great in a cool atmosphere
Great classic decor. I had a very good wedge salad. The crab cakes were fine and we enjoyed curried cauliflower. The local beer list was well chosen.
Chicken not cooked fully done and wine was okay.
The food and drinks were great! A good spot to bring a friend or a date.
Classy, old school, fun but cold atmosphere and a haughty waitstaff dampened the fun. Not a warm experience.
Atmosphere is wonderful. It really takes you back. the staff is just ok.
Way overpriced, but good selections of whiskey and apps
While it was a bit more expensive than the places I usually go, the excellent drinks and the superb waitstaff made it more than worthwhile. I definitely plan on going back!
Unfotunately, the host was so rude that my party of five left. He claimed we did not have a reservation; however, we had called for one and even saw our name on the pad of paper located next to the computer. He said he can read, but our party was not in the system...too bad. I will share this as the worst customer service I have experienced in years!
Good restaurant, somehow I feel like I'm in New York what I'm there. Maybe sometime in the thirty's or forties. It's in a condo building which is is now having its outside cleaned/redone. 2 choices for dinner - by the bar or the dining room. I like the bar, although both are good looking. Classic and new cocktails.
We were a group of 7. Staff put tables, chairs for us, brought water. Great service continued throughout evening. Very cozy place for 2 or 20. No probs using Groupon. My only very minor complaint is the menu offering of bar food. It's not, in my opinion, a good variety-selection, seemed a bit fancy to me. We split appetizers and meals. Both good and plentiful. All 7 of us said we'd return. Happy peeps at The Commodore.
Fantastic cocktails and friendly staff, always willing to share their knowledge of mixed drinks and more
Great experience. Great bar menu, drinks and service. Beautiful interior.
Very classy and nostalgic. Dress nice, I think it helps. Very good food.
Just had drinks. Friendly bartender. $9 for a Cosmo Martini at 8pm. Very reasonable. Loved art deco decor. Will go back next time to eat.
Checked it out...cool Great Gatsby place
You cannot beat the ambiance of this place. The historical charm is absolutely unmatched.. it genuinely feels like you’re dining in the 1920s. The cocktails are also amazing.. well thought out and carefully made. The food is good, but I wouldn’t come back just for the food. I see this as more of a great cocktail bar with room for improvement on the food menu. Cheers!
Outstanding service and food. Executive Chef Chas Grant is a brilliant chef who constantly promotes cutting edge cuisine coupled with a background in local, sustainable sources. I would absolutely recommend visiting and make sure to do the suggested pairings of cocktails with each course. I personally loved the scallops and the lamb the most when I visited. The fat on the lamb was likely my overall favorite bite. The ambiance is splendid, think James Bond movies, wear your finest but most people were wearing simple polo shirts or simple dresses, so don't feel you will be scoffet at if you aren't decked out in Chanel. Be prepared to battle a little remodeling action outside if you go anytime near this review, as the buildings exterior is going through a revitalization. I absolutely would suggest this for a romantic dinner and I hope to go again!
I would give a zero star if that was possible. Our party of 7 started our evening at the Lexington restaurant where we had a fabulous dinner . A couple of people in our group asked if we had been to the iconic Commodore Bar since the reopening. I grew up in St. Paul but live near Wayzata and hadn't had a chance to try it yet. 2 others in our party were in the same boat so we decided to have a "night cap" at the Commodore.....at least last what we thought! We arrived around 11:10 /11:15 and the ambiance is super cool. They did a great job with the interior mixing vintage with new. That's where the great impression ended. No one greeted us and we looked around for a while before we found a small table for two and pulled more chairs around the table to fit us all in. No biggie, we didn't care about the table size. We waited about 5 -7 minutes when Alvin approached our table and started to lecture us about how we were encroaching on his 2 customers at the table next to us which would've easily sat 6-8 people. I couldn't believe it! He went on and on and then turned to the other table and starting apologizing to them for our rudeness.....really? We had been chatting with the couple at that table for several minutes before anyone of the wait staff approached us and they were fine the closeness of the arrangement. In fact, when Alvin walked away they were embarrassed with Alvin's behavior and expressed that with us. I spent years waiting on tables in high school and college at the former Brother's restaurant and Deli in Highland Village (yes, I am dating myself) and then at the Carlton Celebrity Room in Bloomington (where the Mall if America is now located) and I would've been fired had I talked to a customer (s) the way Alvin lectured us. It was so incredibly rude. He was so loud that everyone heard him chastising us and we were embarrassed. He asked us to get up and wait until a table suitable for our size was available. I think it as clear that the did not want new customers near closing time. Fortunately, a table on the other side left so we just moved over. We could see a waiter and a bartender at the bar talking about us for several minutes before the waiter who was gnarly looking waiter came up and gave us menus (we already had menus) and said he would be back. We would ready to order and shared that they were near closing time and we wanted to get our order in and he assured us they would take our order shortly. He came back and one of the people in our group asked him why they didn't wipe down our table and he barked something out. Another person then asked why he was so rude and he told us that he had told one of the people in our group to wait until they had a table ready but we didn't. I wasn't aware that he had asked us to wait, but he could've handled it much more professionally and didn't need to be so rude and "bully like" We are middle aged adults (almost 60) and professionals. It is the worst treatment I have EVER had. Additionally, the waiter had his arms full of tattoos which is his personal choice, but I don't care to see them displayed in full view and he also had a giant nose ring. The company should have a policy on not allowing body piercings while at work and tattoos should be covered. Most importantly, I expected a lot more from this iconic establishment and could not have been more disappointed. We all got up and walked out. Only 7 people were impacted but between us we know a lot of people and we are telling others. I will never be back....such a shame. It had a cool vibe and I would've loved a night cap at this establishment, but two people ruined it for us.
Expensive but worth it if you sample the drive menu and have a steak.
Servers are great and waitresses do a great job providing exceptional service.
Amazing food & cocktails, fun jazz-age decor. Intimate fine dining atmosphere.
The atmosphere is AMAZING. The service was GREAT. The food was AWFUL, OVER SALTED, COLD, FLAT,ECT... I normally do not post reviews on restaurants because i believe it is subjective in some ways. But if your going to charge me $29 for a steak make aure the meat has some flavor and comes out warm. If you pay extra for a twice baked potatoe with pimento in it...make sure its not cold mashed potatoes with little bit of spices. You pay $13 for boston cream pie dessert thinking how bad can dessert be....make sure the dessert does have flavor even just sweetness. I loved the cocktails and our waitress though busy was very nice and attentive. But the FOOD WAS NOT GOOD. And for the prices not worth it. I write this review to save others the disappointment and money. Just go for drinks.
This is one of the most gorgeous buildings I have ever been inside of. Service was amazing, and the food was wonderful.
Cocktails are excellent, menu is small but also excellent. I had the salmon which was done perfectly. Neat environment too. Nick, our server was fantastic.
Wonderful drinks! The atmosphere is the best--two steps above any pseudo-speakeasy or roaring 20's bar. This place is the real deal! It has a solid variety of bars, lounges, and seating areas to give you whatever experience you want.
Great 1930s atmosphere, friendly staff, good drinks. We’ve lived in St Paul for 15 years and just heard about this hidden gem from a friend. Will definitely go back.
M wife and I came here for drinks for our 10 year anniversary. What a gem! Our bartender Jason went above and beyond our expectations with offering us advice on drinks and prompt service. A wonderful experience and I would highly recommend the Commodore as a late night cocktail stop, especially for the gin aficionado.
Beautiful establishment, impeccable service (ask for Nick) and delicious food. The lemonade is the best I’ve ever had. That may sound funny but it is the truth. Our server, Nick, a thirty year veteran in the business, provided flawless service. He had helpful suggestions for the entrees and starters and the desserts were the perfect ending to a memorable meal. We look forward to our next visit.
So much open seating at this amazing venue! Come for dinner or just a snack and enjoy being in a place of history.
I've eaten here before and it was excellent. My most recent visit was for a private event and I have to say, the food was right up there as the best I've had. Normally you expect dried out chicken and just walk past any pork product but this was done exceptionally well. The asparagus were a little tough simply because they were enormous (they were seriously bigger around then the baby stick tree the city planted in my boulevard this spring), but dessert made up for it. Book them for an event folks!
Attended a wedding here. It was a classy place with good food.
It's easily the most subtly elegant bar & restaurant I have ever encountered. Yes it does indeed have high prices, but it isn't that much more expensive than an average bar, and the atmosphere is worth the prices. Every time I have gone, I have had perfect service from the servers. If you're looking for a great place to relax, this is the best spot. They also serve Coca-Cola if you're looking to sober cab or hang out without consuming alcohol or eating!
Great drinks and apps. Didn't have dinner. Old fashioned and Fitzgerald we're top notch.
Nice quiet restaurant, I had the filet mignon was very tender and tasty
Great drinks, Delicious food, Awesome service..
Impeccable customer service, wonderful ambiance, delicious food. Could not have asked for a better experience celebrating our anniversary.
Outstanding cocktails and good food, in a historic setting. Definitely our favorite Twin Cities cocktail place.
Old school vibe fancy and experience but good fancy food great cocktails and atmosphere laid back but with history all over their menu alone has so many facts about Minnesota makes u feel like ur right there in the past
Loved this place when it opened a couple years ago but the service and food quality has slipped and the prices have gone up. The Art Deco bar (one of F. Scott Fitzgerald's old haunts) is still well worth the visiting for a drink though.
We went here a couple years ago early in the fall off of a recommendation. Bartender and our waitress were very friendly and food was great. Looking from the outside you wouldn’t realize what you are walking into, but it’s a great restaurant. Sad we haven’t been back recently but will be trying to go there again soon!
Great menu and I love that they have some reserve tables and some walk in. The cocktails are awesome. Service was not great but I think it was just our server. He forgot about my drink and wasn't attentive. Not stopping me from going back
The food was good, must try the Rabbit Chowder, it was amazing. We had the lobster deviled eggs, cheese plate, rabbit Chowder, and new York strip with twice baked potato.
Great spot for drinks and a snack. The drinks are priced fairly for their strength. Start the night here, don't end it.
Really really good bar in good food for
Great place for drinks after work. Beautiful, especially if you like Deco.
This place takes you back to the 1920s, aka "The lonely age era". The services from the waitress and waiters was amazing, great drinks, and the food was marvelous. I have to admit that the Chicken Parmesan was well worth the $23.00 If you're in town, please stop in and give this Prohibition hotel/bar 1920s restaurant a try. You will not be disappointed! I'm definitely going back to this restaurant.
Classic, old school. Great food and drinks. The bread!!!
Great atmosphere, mediocre service, decent food but way too salty
Great fun atmosphere. Very swanky and savvy. Incredible food and strong cocktails. Bartenders are very cool. Especially keith...
A very special dining experience awaits at St. Paul's Commodore restaurant. The venue and furnishings are beautiful (art-deco style) and the food and service are wonderful.
Great service. Worth visiting
That were very unique items on the menu and I enjoyed my French lamb chops, lobster deviled eggs and rabbit chowder! if a red letter day is one that is pleasurable and memorable than this was a red-letter meal! The commodore was the home to f Scott Fitzgerald and there's a combination of hotel and apartments done in 1920s to 1930s decor. Really memorable experience!
Great cocktails and amazing atmosphere! Didn't eat a meal, but had some great cheese curds. Definitely will make a point to go back for dinner.
The Old Fashion was great. I ordered the burger ($16) so I could splurge on more cocktails. The burger was fantastic. It was by far the best I have ever had. The only down side was the temp in the dining room. It's hot this summer and their AC is almost non existant. Five stars if they had a decent AC.
This place is amazing. And they have a parking lot. The seating arrangement, with both lounge seating and dining throughout the various rooms is one of my favorite parts of the experience. Service and atmosphere is wonderful, whether to sit down and have a cocktail or for dinner.
Over priced, small portions, simple/boring menu. Disappointed
I finally made a visit despite my dislike of the owner of this place. The space is very cool, but the noise level needs to be addressed. The dining room was only 3/4 full and I had to lean in to hear anyone talk. Lots of things on the app menu but very few main courses and very expensive! My food was pretty good, not great, but not bad either. I found the wait staff attentive but just a bit too pretentious for my liking.
Aumbience is great, drinks were tasty, owner's a peach :(
Time travel. Better dress the part.
I never give revews, first of all. Bad tartare, bad drinks, and poor service. When we return the tartare the manager actually gave us flack and said..."you ate a lot for not liking it" .we both had two bites. Really dude? Rabbit stew is good.. give one star for that....I know it's one to five stars. Enough said!
Good food good service
Great food, fantastic service.
The Commodore is a great place for special occasions, we've gone for a couple birthdays and an anniversary. The food is great and the service is amazing, though nothing is cheap. We're eager to go back for some of the happy hour appetizers!
Our server was amazing with our larger group and did her best to make us comfortable even if the AC was broken! She was very helpful when the soup most of our table ordered came out way too spicy. Even with the glitches we all had a great time thanks to the hard work of our server!
The 1920s decor is fabulous. Three comfortable lounges to choose from for terrific drinks. Note there is no tap beer, just bottles. The food is wonderful too. Lobster deviled eggs to start. An interesting selection of entrees. A very fun evening. Classy!
My wife and I recently visited The Commodore for our Anniversary. The visit itself was very pleasant. They gave us a complimentary flute of Champagne which was unexpected and a very nice surprise. The restaurant is very noisy and its hard to hear. One couple next to us asked to be moved and the couple on the other side also complained. The one thing that I didn't like was the up charge for a Macallan 12 on the rocks. There is a 2.50 charge for the ice basically. I asked about it and they said there is more alcohol in the glass or a larger pour. So the drink ended up being 20.50 which sounds like a money grab to me. I've never heard of this before. I know that the St. Paul Hotel, Axel's, Jensen's, and Kincaid's does not charge for this. I was also told that they don't mention it in the menu or verbally because it is something that everyone expects and it's a common practice. BY WHO? I've checked around and found no one in the area that practices this charge. Because of that, I give them 2.5 Stars.
My wife and I went here for our anniversary dinner. Great food and drinks. The 1920s vibe is awesome. Nick, our waiter, was awesome and had great suggestions for food. We'll come back.
You can tell this place is full of a rich history. You can almost see the prominent people from earlier eras walking around. I attended a wedding party here that I'll never forget. I had a flat iron steak dinner with fries and my significant other had the most amazing pork chop I have ever had in my life. The mixologist was able to whip up whatever cocktail I wanted immediately. The deserts were off the charts, those pumpkin pie tarts WoW. The room we were located in was the perfect size for a party. It was inviting you to get up and dance. The wedding party had a great pianist with a grand piano. Later in the evening a live band played some really nice music. Everything came together so perfectly for the most memorable evening. The staff was friendly and actually wanted to provide you with a great time.
A great place to spend an evening - comfortable, friendly staff with great service, terrific drinks and snacks, as well as full dinner if you want. We have not had anything other than positive experiences there.
The Steak Frites were good. The fries and dipping aioli were stellar but the flat iron steak was a bit on the tough side. They should give you the veggie they would give on the side when you order the potato purée. They take it away if you order the fries.Wine flight excellent and good value
The atmosphere of this place will make you feel like you’re stepping into the world of James Bond. Make sure you check out all the different rooms as the atmosphere in each room is different. The walleye was cooked perfectly, albeit a little on the small side. Extensive wine list. Parking on a Friday night, however, wasn’t the greatest. Parking lot probably not large enough for the restaurant, although there is ample street parking. Overall a great experience for an upscale night out.
They have AMAZING food. It's worth the price. They have great cocktails, a nice wine and beer selection and great, friendly service. The inside of the building is absolutely gorgeous! It's a classy place! They have a room for banquets, too. This isn't the best place for kids, but it is very fun for adults. It's also a very romantic place, great for dates!
We reserved the event room for my mother’s memorial. During a difficult time, we really appreciated how easy the staff made things for us. They were consistently considerate and professional. Everything was beautiful and the the food was top notch.
Cool venue, but probably caught it on a bad night. Very empty due to the cold weather and mid week evening after new years. Menu was decent, drinks were good, service good. Execution of my snapper was not what it should have been for the price. Soggy like a frozen fillet, not of high quality, not worth $28. Others had the burger, no complaints. I'd come back, certainly for cocktails, and maybe food....just not sure it is the best option in the neighborhood for dinner/apps considering the cost for what you get. Getting 4 stars for atmosphere and service.
This place was recommended by local friends for my group of 5 attending a training. Unfortunately we were treated so poorly by the host that we left within 5 minutes. We called ahead for a reservation and reserved a table with a very friendly staff. Once we arrived, we were told by the bartender we could seat ourselves at one of the many open tables or see the host if we had reservations. The host said we didn’t have a table. There was a notepad next to the table that had our name and party details in front of him. We pointed this out and he let us know that he was aware of that random piece of paper that happened to have our name on it but we weren’t in the system. We were confused and asked about the paper and he let us know that he could read, but we still didn’t have a table. I have never been treated so poorly within 5 minutes of walking into a restaurant. We promptly took our business elsewhere.
We went there recently for cocktails and a few appetizers. The Old Fashions were excellent, but we were very disappointed in the Crab Cakes. They did not appear to be house made. We also tried the scallops and they were good, but a bit overpriced for the three fairly small scallops we were served. The ambiance, cocktails, and friendly staff still made for a nice evening.
Service is always top notch, and the food and cocktails are some of the best in town.
Excellent... service and food top notch combined with the unique 1920s ambience= a dining experience worth the considerable price.
It had a 1920s swanky vibe to the place. I felt almost transported to the 1920s, we should have been wearing flapper dresses and zuit suits. There was light jazz music in the background, montage of musical dances on a screen. If you, want a complete vibe of the 20s this is the place for you. The food was great, higher prices mean higher quality. There signature drinks had great names. It was a great time. I think of this is what your looking for, this is the place to go. This is definitely good for a special event.
Love the cocktails here, the servers are incredibly knowledgeable about the drink program as well as the storied history of the Commodore. Went there after dinner, otherwise I would have probably wanted more than just the fried curd. There were 7 of us and we each ordered different drinks and they were all excellent balanced and delicious.
Such a great and historic art deco space. Great service, food and cocktails. Love this place!
Pretty good service and food was OK. Lamb Chops were above average. Beef Bolognese was mediocre. Nothing special. The menu is very small and they were even out of a few things.
Great soup and drinks. Service is very attentive. Our server was very laid back and polite, but also very professional. He did a great show for us when I ordered absinthe. The guy who ran us our soup, I think Tim was his name, was able to answer a barrage of questions I had for him about the asparagus soup. The atmosphere is very nice. Slightly confusing on how to order as the host did not seat us or give us menus.
Beautiful place, great staff, fun times! Our only frustration is there is only a pair of handicapped spots. While we understand the lot is small, even petitioning the city for a spot or two in the streets could be helpful.
Nice dinner. The before dinner bar was 20's 30's and fantastic. Dress nice on date night and get it on at the Commodore.
Ahhh. My favorite. Great cocktails, rich history, original bar, and beautiful people. You know that old fur coat your grandma left you in her Will?! Wear is at The Commodore. Fantastic signature cocktails and the menu is great. The risotto is my go to. Always have a reservation. If you have a favorite spot to sit, request it.
The food here was delicious! The loaded baked potato with pimento cheese was a particular favorite and their marinated steak was done perfectly and melted in my mouth. Will be back for sure!
Nice place, great atmosphere. Somewhat small menu and a little on the expensive side.
Awesome cocktails and time travel esque building
Loved the cocktails and appetizers!
Our server Nick was wonderful!
Loved it! A hidden jewel!
Excellent vibe for a bar/lounge. Really great cocktails!
The Commodore is one of the most underrated upscale establishments in Saint Paul. The truth is, you don’t have to be super fancy or bougie to go there. They have an excellent menu, amazing cocktails, and great services. It’s a great place to hang around and catch up with friends - I just don’t think enough people know about it. I’m a big fan, and try to mix it regularly along with the more casual places I typically go. Don’t be intimidated by how nice it is - you’ll be greeted and well-treated no matter what. I heard there’s a new summer drink menu rolling out and I can’t wait to try it!
Sooooo good. I had the beer battered walleye. I normally don't eat fish, but went out on a limb. Glad I did. The whiskey sour was great, too. Jason makes a mean drink! Kudos Commodore!
A little slow, but a hidden gem.
Everything was amazing! Service, food, cocktails, and the atmosphere! It's one of my favorite places to go to for an awesome night out!
Really wonderful atmosphere, very unique. Plenty of casual seating. The bill we received was quite wrong and was corrected, but it detracted from the otherwise pleasant experience. Also, prices are rather on the high side.
Amazing food! Great drinks! Flawless atmosphere.. yum!
Great staff, amazing drinks and food that doesn't disappoint.
Excellent food, environment and service! Great menu development - recently added cocktail pairings with their plates. Such a cool space with so much history! Excellent for a full meal or coming in for cocktails and desserts. Yes, that's plural because having only one of either mentioned would be a disservice to your taste buds.
Great food. Portions are not excessive, but they are large enough, just need to do at least a three course meal. I would consider it expensive, but not out of control for the quality of food and the setting. Had a great baby vegetable salad with a walnut vinaigrette that I am working on trying to replicate. They also have a good selection of specialty cocktails.
We were a group of 5 for a birthday dinner and we all thoroughly enjoyed our food and drinks and dessert. Our server was Nick and he was friendly and engaging. We started with the scallops and beef tartare for appetizers. I had the lamb chops, we also had the trout and the steaks that were great. Our drinks were The Fitzgerald, The Commodore and an Old Fashioned. Great experience and I would go again.
Indeed The Commodore is a Lovely place of ambience where we 2 couples enjoyed last eve. From The Hostess with the Mostess, Nick our very knowledgeable Server, The Magnificent Bartenders, Ruby our Server-assist, with our Parker Roll (delectable) server too: All are professional, attentive, expeditious and most pleasant too! Cocktails are great! Our guys enjoyed thoroughly their dinners, Walleye and Bistro Steak, divinely spot-on; we gals chose Beef Bolognese which were not. I was "starving" and with each forkful I anticipated I'd find burried lots of, any, sauce; dang, to no avail, quite sauceLESS, utterly scant. Also, our el dante' pasta was not, too tough. Flavors were Tasty. They did in fact remove these two dinners from our bill which we appreciated. I remain craving That Walleye still, and we'd love to return for it, no doubt!
Can be expensive, but the space is amazing and the fare/drinks are reliable.
A step back in time, wonderful ambience, appetizers and drinks very good
Great food, great service and easy to make a reservation online!
Elegant dining. Spirit of F Scott Fitzgerald
Top shelf everything at top shelf prices. From the same folks who brought you WA Frost up the street, so you know the ambiance is on point. Like stepping back in time. You'll keep looking over your shoulder to see if F.Scott Fitzgerald himself is walking through the door.
Great strong cocktails in elegant atmosphere.
Went for 1st time Friday. My waiter Justin didn't even introduce himself except by his horrible attitude. Maybe he was having a rough night but should be cognizant of the importance of his position. Snatched my menu out my hand when I said I wouldn't need it, as my experienced date would order drinks for me. Plus, I remembered reading reviews about The Fitzgerald so I knew that's what I wanted. During our wait, we decided to pass time looking at photos near the "original" bar, taking in history. Same waiter: "Excuse me pleease"- sounded annoyed as if we, the patrons, were in his way for wanting to take in a greater experience. Told him then to personally cancel my drink. Actually wanted a lot more (food, dessert) but didn't trust him nor anyone associated with him to prepare it. Waited long time for just 1 drink- and it was brought out wrong. Aviation vs. Side Car After another wait, my date got his drink and I tried my best to focus on the positive as I looked at my glass of water wanting to get up and view more photos. As a result, we left earlier than we planned. I REEEALLY wanted to enjoy this experience. Nope.
My daughter had her wedding reception here, and it was PERFECT. It couldn't have been better. They even had a separate little room for a bridal chamber for her to change in.
We come here for the ambience. All the drinks and food vary from decent to great but for us, we go because it is so fun to be transported through time.
Had dinner there in August with family and friends. Had the small steak with potatoes and green beans. This is simple stuff but it was beautifully done and the service was excellent. The place reminds me of older apartment buildings in New York with the black and white flooring. All in all a very nice evening.
The art deco sensibility and classy ambience of The Commodore can't be beat. Their method default for a vodka martini is avoiding Vermouth entirely, which is praiseworthy. You can hear yourself (and your partner) speak, even when it is busy; the chairs are comfy, the tables are narrow, and the lighting is intimate but not dim. The food is pleasant enough but not mind-blowing - the four stars are more for the venue itself and the bar.
One of my favorite craft cocktail place in St Paul. Wonderful appetizers. Great date night spot. Mid week evenings are good time to go there as it is a bit less busy.
Great service from our bartender and a delicious concoction called a Date with Dillinger.
Dope ambiance and lots of history. Can't miss.
Jazz Age glamour in a sleek Art Deco gem of a building. Expect elegant craft cocktails, posh eats, soft lighting and an abundance of gleaming mirrored surfaces reflecting the candlelight. Perfect spot for a special romantic meal or drink, or a place to impress an important client.
Excellent food prepared in unique ways. Fantastic service in a classic behind the scenes manner.
Wow what a great place. First the place is a great take back to prohibition in style. Then the staff is friendly and attentive. The food is top notch. They also have some really good mixed cocktails
The first time we went to the Commodore a year or two ago it was amazing. I had the best rabbit I've ever had there. We went back yesterday and they were having a pretty rough night. They were out of a number of specialty drinks, had run out of several cuts of meat, and also ran out of mushrooms. The menu on their website was (and still is of this writing) out of date so we weren't able to order one of the dishes we were planning on getting. The waitress told us it changed about a week ago. The menu is fairly limited and pretty oriented toward bar food at this point: Steaks/burgers/sandwiches/sliders make up a large portion of what's offered. The quality of the food was generally decent though not excellent. Service was fairly slow but they had a large wedding party in the back room so I can't fault the staff as they seemed like they were trying their best. Nevertheless it took nearly an hour for my tea to arrive. On the other hand, mixed drinks from the bar arrived relatively quickly and my wife reported that hers was excellent. The venue itself was quite warm and very noisy due to the wedding crowd. After an hour or two they closed the doors to the back room which helped immensely (I wish they would have done that right away!). My recommendation at this point is to hit up the Commodore's bar for one of their excellent drinks but head to dinner elsewhere. Suggestions to the owner: Don't run out of food! Make sure your website is up to date. Bring back some of the unique dishes you previously had that made the commodore stand out from the crowd. Finally: if you are going to take on a large wedding party, make sure you can handle the extra load!
Retro swanky indulgence!
Speakeasy vibe, good food
The food was good, the atmosphere was amazing.
Nicely restored, worth a visit just for that. Good food and service also
My parents used to go here before I was born to see live music. Totally different place now, Hollywood regency room and a boat deck style room. Haven't been to the restaraunt, just the lounges. Very cool place for a cocktail.
One of the most glamorous restaurants in Twin cities
Their cocktails are amazing. Service is great. The vibe is very classy – think Fitzgerald. I've thoroughly enjoyed every visit!
Very nice place,we've been here a few times and the food is always excellent. we had duck chowder, lobster devilled eggs, a new York strip and trout. Not to mention a number of "take it for pomegranates" service was impeccable and the food was amazing. Go here you won't regret it. Loved the cocktails this time :)
Excellent service. Great food. A little pricey but the ambience is worth it. Great bar(s) with nice variety of offerings.
