This Restaurant belongs to the category of New American restaurant.
Stopped in last minute on the way to a Thursday night grad school class. Was late to school and SO worth it! The ambiance was fantastic- great lighting, chic and fun and quaint at the same time. The FOOD. Oh my goodness. My friend got some sort of rolls- they looked like Hawaiian roles- but steaming hot, brushed with butter and salt, served with whipped butter and honey in the center. Wow.
The menu is pretty diverse from burgers, to pasta, to stir fry. We opted for the fresh bread and honey butter and it was definitely worth it. My husband had short rib pasta, and I opted for the stir fry. It took a really long time to get our main course but worth the wait. Pasta was amazing and I wish I had ordered it. The stir fry was ok, lots of flavor but also really salty. It wasn't bad, but I probably wouldn't get it again.
Absolutely delicious food in a super low-key space. I always enjoyed the old Cafe 128, which previously occupied the unassuming basement of an apartment building across from St. Thomas and Stewart's has continued that tradition: Deceptively sophisticated yet simple menu, great food, nice people in an intimate, casual space. It's a gem.
The single best BLT I've ever had from a restaurant. Seriously, this thing rivals my grandma's. From the friendly, knowledgeable service to the simple menu full of big flavor, this is a place you need to try. As a bonus, it's in a beautiful area perfect for going for a light walk after you fill yourself with the fantastic food. I will be coming here again, and again, and again. It's very rare when you find a place that knows how to make simple food extraordinary.
Ok burger, to classy of a place for me, had to order fries off ala cart
Excellent food, rightly priced, great atmosphere. The Korean fries and BLT are the best! A great go-to brunch spot.
Great spot!! So happy I tried this spot!! Sat at the bar. The bartender was great super friendly!! Happy was so amazing!! Great options. Really want to try the full menu. Food was great very flavorful!! Definitely will be back!!
Great apps! Great atmosphere! Just wish that they had more seating!
Great atmosphere, good food, love!
Awesome food portions are smaller but it's definitely worth the experience
One of our new favorite restaurants in St. Paul! Quaint and friendly. Great food and drinks.
This is a wonderful little neighborhood place. Great salads, spicy sides and thick burgers. We shared a number of apps and tried a few of the delicious cocktails- loved the sweet honey bee and spicy bourbon. Friendly and fast service. Highly recommend!
Cool upscale diner with a Korean twist. Eggs Benedict was as good as it can be done.
The first time I ate here was for a job interview, and I still really enjoyed the meal (scalllops), so that's a good start. I like everything I've had there, but I'd especially recommend their kimchi tostada.
Great food for a good price, the menu and the building are small, but they make good use of the space they have.
After driving by this restaurant many times I finally decided to stop in. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and hospitality of the bartender. I highly recommend this place if you're in the area or looking for a hidden gem in St. Paul.
Interesting menu
One of the best brunches we've had in a LONG time! Amazing Eggs Benedict and a wonderful friendly staff. We'll definitely be back for dinner soon. Thanks so much again!
It's a great local spot. Lovely staff and a top notch happy hour. It's right by the university, but it attracts a mature crowd.
Stewart's is a warm and inviting little restaurant with delicious drinks, a reasonably priced, consistently changing menu, and great service. The dishes can be hit-or-miss with some being delicious and some being okay, but the atmosphere, price, and interesting choices keep us coming back for the excitement of finding their gems.
The food was quite interesting; we enjoyed the unique taste of the appetizers: Buffalo Brussel Sprouts and a mushroom dish. But the space is low-ceilinged, hard-walled and just too noisy, like you're in a small room with people shouting at each other. And the kitchen seemed backed up, slow to produce the dishes. They have some outdoor seating but it was totally occupied. We stopped with the appetizers and had dinner elsewhere.
Food was outstanding, service great. Not at all noisy and comfortable.
If I was trying to woo someone hard, I would hands down come here. Quiet enough for romantic cooings, everyone that works here is cute as heck, the food is beyond delightful, even the bread blew my mind. Stroll hand in hand around the corner to Izzy's for ice cream and round out the best night of your life.
Hands down, one of my absolute favorite places in St Paul. An incredibly charming restaurant with delicious food, inventive drinks, and a friendly staff. I've brought my family for brunch and my friends for happy hour - if you haven't been, grab a friend and pay a visit. Highly recommend the burger, grilled cheese, seasonal salads, Korean fries, French omelette, French toast, or, really, anything that sounds good to you - it'll be fantastic.
This place is so good. Great service, wonderful food and cool ambiance. The brussel sprouts are amazing...AMAZING! The steak tips and potatoes were heavenly. Highly recommend this spot.
Small and intimate dining environment. Been here several times, the food is consistently excellent. The cocktails are great. Brussel sprouts are excellent. Korean fries are tasty. The various entrees for dinner have always been great. Service is friendly and efficient. This is a wonderful restaurant in St. Paul.
Small and comfortable space with a great menu where St. Thomas staff come to eat. A little bit noisy during the lunch hour.
Great atmosphere and service, food is average. I went there for Sunday brunch. I had the farmers breakfast, eggs your way with crispy potatoes, bacon and sausage. I ordered my eggs over medium. I like dippy eggs. Yokes you can dip your toast in and fully cooked whites. Whites were too runny. Parking can be a challenge, especially during the week when permit parking is enforced.
Such a nifty little place tucked surprisingly into an apartment building! Old timey decor and ambience. The food was just fantastic! You must do the Brussels sprouts, burgers, fries, and more. A great and diverse menu that we will further explore next time. The drinks were well made and tasty. The happy hour prices and options are unbeatable. Our server was fun, funny, helpful, and friendly. He helped make our first visit with friends a great time. Please check out this little neighborhood gem. You will not be disappointed.
A great spot for a quiet meal, we enjoyed our time here where all 5 of us found something we liked on the small but diverse menu. Great service, food, and an intimate setting made for a perfect night out with friends.
Nice casual place right on the street. Good food.
The burger is crazy good! Great service too in quite an intimate setting.
Great little, cozy space. Decent cocktails. The food is spectacular. Loved it.
Food was great. The scallops and sauce were delicious!
This place was pretty decent overall. I like the atmosphere, and the attentive staff. Drinks were well made and reasonably priced. Food was good, the highlights being the brussel sprouts and the bread pudding dessert. Meat was a little over cooked. We had both the pork and the chicken. It was all good, but for the prices we paid, the meat should have been cooked better. Nothing was bad, but not overly GREAT either.
Small and quiet place, the wait for service and food was speedy. The double cheeseburger is incredible, salty and greasy. The best I've had.
Nice cozy place. Can be little loud and the service is little slow. But the good is good.
Ambiance warm, inviting. Food mediocre. Had the $28 Steak Frites. Meat was tough. Ate only two pieces. Plate cleared without inquiry. Stopped for snack on my way home. Still hungry.
Interesting delicious food, fun atmosphere. Nice wait staff! I highly recommend the kimchi hash!
Friendly staff, good food.
The food was definitely excellent, and the interior was cozy. The brunch menu had sufficient but not overwhelming options. i didn't try any of the daytime cocktails, but they looked good. The service was a bit slow the day I went, but i would still definitely go there as a brunch meet up place again!
Really well executed food for not a lot of money. Drinks are a bit on the pricey side but the food is fantastic. The space is small, so make a reservation.
This place is so wonderful. I'm hesitant to share because I think it may be a secret love for regulars. We enjoyed a pork shank that evoked warm family nostalgia, buffalo style Brussels, tender Korean fried chicken and savory mussels.
A great small neighborhood restaurant with friendly staff and good drinks. The menu is unique, but I wasn’t overly impressed with it. I would come back mainly for the cocktail list.
Great food with unique, exciting flavor combinations. I like how the menu changes and I always look forward to what I might get to try next. I have not yet been disappointed. Relaxed and comfortable atmosphere with great service.
Amazing as always! The very best restaurant. I am a foodie and artisanal always amazes me with their creativity, service and ambiance. Can't wait to go back!
The design and feel of the restaurant is unique and cozy. The food is very delicious!
In love with this restaurant. I've driven by it so many times but never realized how nice it was inside and that they had such good and unique food! We started with one of the favorites of the restaurant, the Buffalo Brussels Sprouts. These are a must. If you don't like veggies or greens, these will change your life. We also shared the walleye dinner and a special of the night, a type of tostada with crab, radishes, and avo spread. We also had their margarita drink which had a kick to it and was strong! One of my new favorite places in St Paul.
Stewart's is a small restaurant located under a housing complex. Awesome food, for brunch and dinner. There is not a ton of space, I'd recommend calling first and making a reservation.
They just switched owners and took away some of their most popular drinks and food items, as well as the weekend happy hours. The first weekend of switching menus there were only 3 food items available. The food is great (ie. poutine and Brussels sprouts) so hopefully they don’t change any more than they already have. I loved going there but probably won’t be back for a while now.
Great food, perfect portions with room for dessert!
The burger is a contender. Revival, Martina's, Red Cow, and Matt's should all be mentioned in the same breath. Tasty. Focused, small menu. I liked it
I got the farmers breakfast. I tend to steer more traditional breakfast so I can get a gauge on the quality of ingredients and prep. It was damn good. The eggs were soft scrambled and had the cheese mixed in, instead of the cheese on top method. The housemade sausage was everything and the country potatoes had great texture and flavor. Usually a potato wedge type deal will have a really plain potato taste to it, but the flavors permeated through the potato flesh. It wasn't busy when we went (Saturday during brunch hours) which I found to be a great plus considering the quality of the food. I will lament the day when St Paul really discovers this place.
One of my favorite places in St Paul when visiting from Chicago.
The short happy hour is worth it
Burger and patty melt were great, as were the brussel sprouts, kimchi tostada, and Korean fries. Good adult and non alcoholic cocktails also. Will be going back for sure.
Great service and love the atmosphere!!!
Enjoyed a cozy delicious meal with visiting family and vegetarian teen in tow. Enjoyed great winter hearty food in reasonable portions and a good value. It just felt good to be there with helpful service that met all our needs while giving us space to enjoy our get together. The cocktail menu was fun, and enjoyed my not-too-sweet burnt orange and gin concoction. A bar with TVs and packed barstools was close by but didn’t disturb. They have a good reservation system and my consult ahead of visit was handled with aplomb.
The Korean fries are pretty good but the cheeseburger is absolutely amazing. It is simple but so amazing. Very juicy and flavorful.
A tiny yet cozy neighborhood restaurant near the University of St. Thomas Serving some nicely prepared food. I had the shore lunch walleye sandwich over texas toast with a side salad. Nice and attentive service person.
Great food and ambiance. Hot chef
Nice ambiance and based on other reviews I read up on here, I had high hopes that the food would be on point -- disappointingly, the items we ordered we ordered were just "meh". Korean Fries: Wasn't horrible but nothing to be excited about either. The dips were just ok as well. Overall, the fries would've tasted better if they didn't saturate it with sodium & spices. 2/5 Stars. Szechuan Noodles: This was utter misery! A bad attempt to fuse kimchi with some undercooked noodles, shiitake mushrooms & leathery tofu that simply didn't mesh!!! The tangy-acidity of either the kimchi or the sauce that they used was overpowering, leaving no room for any other flavors. 0/5 Stars. Pork Cheeks: Pork was really tender with jalapeno grits which add a unique twist of flavor & texture. The pork cuts though tender, were a tad too salty for my taste. Ease up on the salt and this may have earned 4 stars. 3/5 Stars Winter Spiced Bread Pudding: The best item out of the lot. Pudding bread topped with butterscotch sauce, spices and crunchy, candied almond clusters. 4/5 Stars Would I go again? Likely not. Or if I ever did, I would very much make sure not to order any of the above items again except for the Spiced Bread Pudding.
Lovely street side seating and wonderful lunch menu.
It was fine. They are trying too hard. I had the fall salad which was nice. The cavatappi where gnocchi abd the sauce was dull. Expensive mixed drinks. Very nice service staff.
Great burger over a busy Friday lunch hour
The food, service and atmosphere are all great. My only complaint is the lack of natural light. It's in a basement and it feels like it. This cavern-like feeling has not discouraged me from going to Stewart's multiple times to eat Korean fries or many other things. The cocktails are also noteworthy.
Stopped for drinks and appetizers. Great service, refreshing cocktails on a sultry evening and yummy veggies for a healthy and indulgent snack.
The food is overall standard. I didn't dislike anything that I had, but I also wasn't wowed. The Korean Fries were just regular fries with a little Korean red pepper, which seemed more like they were just trying to jump on a trend. The dipping sauces were fine and a little Koreanized, but overall they were nothing special and I wouldn't bother with them again. I much preferred my French Omelette, though the potatoes were a little dry. The omelet itself was pretty small, so the bulk of the plate was taken up with potatoes and toast.
We love this place! If you’re reading this, make sure to try the Korean fries... one of a kind recipe! The staff are also so attentive. The two main servers they have, Tony and Sarah, are always there working around the clock. The chef, Ian, even shares his enthusiasm with customers when he gets a spare moment. I respect this place because they have dedicated staff and great food and an even better environment to relax — up at the bar or even with your family. This place is awesome and feels like home!
Superior food hands down. Wonderful staff. Not expensive. Cozy. Busy times need reservations. Limited menu. Everything is a specialty. This is your new favorite place!
The best honey bread rolls I’ve been had! It’s a bit expensive, but the owner is wonderful and I will definitely go here again. There could be a greatest variety of options for dishes, and the food was nothing exceptional. Great aesthetic for a cute date night.
Very attentive wait staff - great tasting good and excellent drinks.
Came here for mother's day. The menu had a great selection, the food was tasty, and the staff were friendly. My Mother left happy.
Get the Old Fashioned, you won't regret it!
Definitely cozy, definitely delicious. Quiet spot on a Saturday afternoon. The terragon hollandaise on the benedict was fantastic, and they make even a simple piece of whole-grain toast something to savor.
Solid little place tuckd away in at Paul.
Wonderfully cozy atmosphere! The staff are very friendly and the menu offers an ecclectic yet delicious variety of fare. Would highly recommend!
Great local restaurant with delicious food, fair portions and zero pretentiousness. A gem in today’s market saturated with “small portions, high price, only-care-about-Instagrammable food”
The food is great and it would be a 4 1/2 or 5 if the noise level and space was more comfortable.
Great savory food and cozy place.
Great food and service. Mahi Mahi special of day tacos were super.
We ordered almost every item from the happy hour menu at it was delicious! The prices were more than appropriate especially for the quality and the taste of the food. The service was great and friendly which made the visit even better! I would recommend for anyone!
Yummy burgers and brussel sprouts with dressings during Happy Hour.
The service was good. The menu is very limited and overpriced. The food was good, but not outstanding by any means. I probably won't be back.
LOVE this place. It's perfectly cozy and the food is next level. Highly recommend the Korean Fries.
Excellent dinner. Looking forward to their brunch!
Great meal with excellent service. What could be better?
The brussel sprouts were outstanding. The staff is attentive highly recommended.
Excellent lunch. I had the BLT and spicy fries. Couldn't have been any better thank you
Delicious tostada and the server was awesome, cool little place right on the street. Sidewalk patio or dining inside
Table for 4 om 2/15/15. They featured a fixed menu left over from Valentine's Day. I had the pate appetizer and stuffed lobster entree. The pate actually looked like a big, thick slice of Spam and had very little liver flavor to it. The "crab" stuffing to the lobster was too salty to eat. The wait staff is very young and inexperienced. Twice, they forgot to bring us silverware. We had one bottle of Spanish white wine and the bill totaled $225. Too much for what we got. I doubt that we will go back
Loved the atmosphere and the food and the prices were reasonable for the top notch quality. Will be bank.
Very good food. Good service as well.
Extremely cozy, the food has been excellent on all of my visits. The bar staff makes great cocktails as well!
LOVED this place!! So cute and cozy. Crazy good food and cocktails.
Sandwiches are so delicious!! I've had the patty melt and BLT. They also have some yummy non-alcoholic beverages
One of the best burgers in town! I have been here twice now. First time I had the Rachel Sandwich which was great and filling. Then I had the burger, whoa! Was I impressed. I wasn’t expecting it but the burger had so much flavor and melted cheese. SO good!
Staff is very professional. Credit to the chefs for always providing the best food. Thumbs up!
Such a hidden gem! Amazing food, menu has something for everyone, and great craft cocktails! Happy hour is a good deal but since it is so tiny, get there to get a table! Oh and they do bar time on happy hour which is strange so you need to be there 15m before to get something off the menu, as long as you are prepared for that, you are good.
It was interesting garden level apartment.... probably wouldn't go back but food was tasty good even though my pork chop was under cooked....I did still eat it
Excellent service; our waitress was very attentive and helpful. The food was delicious as well. We ordered the Korean fries, which had a great kick and plenty of flavor. The Benedict was good, though the muffins were a bit thin, and we really enjoyed the kimchi hash. Would go again!
Patty melt.Get the patty melt.
Not your run of the mill menu. Be prepared for a delightful change. Perfect size portion.
Great great food and drinks!
We went for Sunday brunch and absolutely loved it! The staff was very kind and attentive and the food was absolutely fantastic (get the eggs benedict...it's perfect)!! Doesn't look like much from the outside, but very cozy and welcoming on the inside. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun, new restaurant.
Great food and service!?
We experienced 128 Cafe during Restaurant week and will return. The garlic chutney appetizer, the scallops, the poached pear salad, the 128 restaurant special burger ("first burger I ate without ketchup"), the green beans as an accompaniment- my anti-green husband ate them all. It was an evening with great food and great friends. We will return again with friends and family. I noted on the reservation that I had sesame and mango allergies. The wait staff was aware as they took our order and chef, Max Thompson, also came out to acknowledge that he had seen the notice on our reservation. Excellent dining experience.
Such a great little place. Not to be missed!
Incredible food in a cozy European feeling place.
Food and drinks were great! Love the weekend happy hour. Classy yet affordable. $$$ is incorrect
Nice neighborhood restaurant
Great lunch. Rachel sandwich was the bomb.
Cozy restaurant, tucked away in a St Paul neighborhood, great food, good service. Really enjoyed the shiitake tofu stir fry. Great place!
Love this little garden level restaurant in a lovely neighborhood just steps away from St. Thomas. The grilled cheese is an absolute must!
The best Eggs Benedict! Everything I've had there has been fantastic though. You can tell that the chef really cares about the product that he puts out.
Fantastic! Stewart's is pretty small, but I'd call it cozy. The burger and kimchi fries were both delicious and our server was wonderful, attentive but not hovering. It was a great place to celebrate my wife and my anniversary.
A small place with a small, sidewalk, patio. Tasty, well-made/well-executed food items can be found here. Service ranges from well-above average to okay on a seemingly off-day.
Great atmosphere and delicious desserts!
Great drinks and great food! Feel like our kid was the first to use the high chair haha BUT they had a high chair :)
Food was amazing! Service was phenomenal! Will definitely recommend to friends! :)
Great atmosphere. Food is excellent and prices are reasonable.
Some mornings it's great and sometimes it is okay, thanks Stewart's!
You should definitely make time to try Stewart's.
We have been using xxx for over 30 years and they always do a wonderful job. Their stewards are punctual, competent and do everything possible to keep us safely cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Can't envision using anyone else. I would endorse them for any HVAC needs!!
This just became my new favorite. The food was tasty and unique. The atmosphere & prices are also great.
Stopped in for lunch and loved it. Planning to be back regularly.
Food too salty but nice service and interior
The Bad: Cold, undercooked steak, undercooked potatoes, sauces all mixed on the plate ribs tasted like raw pork probably would, service was not what one would expect of this type of restaurant. Prepare for the cold atmosphere... Literally. Double up on your socks!! The good: the brownie and ice cream were just okay, but the best thing we ordered...besides the wine. Great anniversary.... In general the experience was less than pleasant, do yourself a favor and don't listen to the 'awesome' reviews. They were under different management in prior years. This is a current review :) Instead try out Pittsburgh Blue in Maple Grove, you will get what you pay for there!!!
Really interesting place. Food was priced right, not sure about the taste but what I saw it all looked very good! Drinks were very unique, the pricing was decent and very good. I will certainly go back. I should mention parking is a challenge. This establishment is in a residential neighborhood, with a college across the street so most spots are 1 hour parking. They do have some limited parking on the side, but not a lot.
Had the rice and curry dish, was amazing. My companion had the pork chop, also amazing. Service was top notch and gave great recommendations. Absolutely would recommend, great for good food or a date.
So good. This place has amazing food that was made to be enjoyed! Great place to be reminded why we love eatting so much
Really great food and cozy atmosphere! The drinks were amazing as well!
Great food and a fun atmosphere!
Prices are slightly high for portion sizes but cool atmosphere.
Food and service were fantastic. A bit pricey but very high quality!
Sit at the bar, the bartenders are as entertaining as they are talented
Great mixed-green salad w/chicken. Great service; small outdoor dining area. Definitely would go back!
Pleasant and attentive staff, tasty cocktails and well prepared food. I had a grilled salmon served with an Asian flair that was very appealing and the ginger molasses cookies with bourbon ice cream sandwich dessert was an incredible dessert.
