Best meal I've had in a while! Mussels that taste like they actually came from the sea in the most delicious sauce. Our server suggested that she leave the bowl and bring more bread - a woman who just gets it. Perfectly cooked lamb and vegetables. My partner thought his steak was a little overdone, but still melt in your mouth high quality. Went for my birthday and received complimentary dessert. If you like chocolatey spoonfuls of heaven, I highly recommend the pot de creme.

I feel bad leaving a poor review, but the service was really lacking. Our waitress was friendly, but seemed overwhelmed. We were seated for 5-10 minutes before we got water or menus. Our party did come in 2 waves, but it was pretty obvious that our group of 7 was seated and ready for service. After one glance at the menu, we immediately ordered the bread and butter basket for snacking on, and it being a French restaurant, thought we should try their baguette. We had to ask multiple times for the bread and were told it was “in the oven,” or being “fired right up.” However the bread didn’t come until after our food and was stone cold and unremarkable. Definitely not fresh from any oven. Otherwise, the food was pretty good. I also felt bad for our server and the wait staff who seemed to be working hard while the host/manager just hung out with some regulars.

Took my husband here and the atmosphere and staffs were wonderful. The only thing that could use some work are the foods. The steak and lamb were charred and I could barely taste the flavor in the meat itself. Prices are a bit on the higher side.

Great place. Doesn't look like much from the street but dinner was excellent. They even printed a menu that said "Happy Anniversary" for us!! The server was very nice, and we loved every bit of our dinner. 5 stars! Make a reservation though; it's a small seating area.

The food here is great, the service was great, the location is warm and comforting. I had the Steak with Frittes, the steak was good and the fries were dynamite. My wife wanted seafood and pasta, so the waiter had the kitchen whip her up something not on the menu, so that was great and she really liked it. Lastly, the Tres Leches desert.... if you come here get it. It’s a must. The only thing that prevented my review from receiving 5 stars were the fruit flies.... there were many.

We celebrated my daughter's U of M graduation at Cave Vin and what a wonderful dinner it was. There was a congratulations greeting to her at the top of the menu, which was really nice. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the service was outstanding and Tim was great in recommending wines and dishes. We had not been there in a while, but the food was as good as I remembered and they still have killer french fries. Everything they do, they do well.

We visited Cave Vin for the first time and were immediately pleased with the friendly service we received. They went above and beyond by making sure to order the dish we had planned to order that night (I had left a voicemail to request the lamb). They also printed "Happy 13th Birthday" on our menu for my daughter. The lamb was cooked perfectly- so tender and delicious, and we enjoyed some great desserts, as well. We highly recommend this place for a quiet and quaint dinner experience.

Cave Vin is our home away from home. Best food EVER. If you haven’t been, I implore you to try it. We have been loyal customers for 15 years and it is my favorite place to eat. This is worth finding a parking spot for. Go with a group of friends or colleagues so you can try all the appetizers. We tried the cauliflower gratin, calamari, and frites. I also had the crab bisque which was early and not heavy. I finished with vegetarian pasta and chocolate custard which were both well done. The portions are sized to allow you to enjoy multiple courses.

Service is decent and its a cozy little restaurant. We've been there three times over the last few years and only one time was it really excellent. I know French food is typically rich, but I find the food here way too buttery and rich for my taste. The beef short ribs have great flavor, but I couldn't finish the reasonable-sized portion because of the rich and salty flavor. Not to mention I was dehydrated for the next 12 hours. My wife has gotten the gnocchi a couple of times and, again, flavor is good but it's literally drowning in butter. The key lime pie is excellent though. Maybe the best I've had outside of Florida.

I almost never give five starts. My seafood stew was as good as any French bouillabaisse or Italian cioppino and I even found clams in the mix which weren't advertised on the menu description of mussels, shrimp, calamari, and arctic char. My chocolate gelato was rich and decadent. Marquis, the dining room supervisor, was an awesome conversationalist and attentive server. I most especially enjoyed the subtle background New Age music piped in off the Internet via Pandora. This music invites and intrigues you to slow down and meditate so as to slowly savor each and every bite of the awesome cuisine. The portions are ample but not humungous since again the idea is to slow down and savor instead of chow down mass quantities.

We're from Mankato, MN and have never been to Cave' Vin before the evening of Friday, March 04. We only happen to be in the area as the result of a scheduling mistake and decided to use the non-refundable hotel we had mistakenly booked as an opportunity to knock around a part of the twin cities that we typically drive past on our way to downtown Saint Paul. There was nothing about our experience that was less than 5 stars. Since the restaurant opens at 5:00 we decided to call and see if we could get in a little early for a glass of wine. My wife spoke to the owner who graciously said sure, just tell them Ken said it was okay. Marquees (sp) our waiter greeted us immediately when we arrived and asked if we were the people that had called. He seated us and gave us a few minutes to look over the wine menu. There isn't enough room to write all of the positives about this little gem but suffice it to say that the service was warm and welcoming, the food was wonderful plus we had an opportunity to talk to the owner and chef before we left for the evening. As we left we were surprised that we hadn't heard about this place. Great job to all involved, we certainly will be back. The scallops and Lamb were the best I've ever tasted!

Delicious! The service is outstanding, the drinks just keep on coming, the food is delicious and I honestly can't say enough. THE BEST GARLIC FRIES in the Twin Cities. --------------------- Update: Highly recommend the tartare, the lamb, the steak, the tres leches cake and the fries. They no longer do the garlic fries but the fries are still on point and I could drink the garlic aoili it's so good. We've been coming here for 3 years and it's still a super chill intimate place with amazing food and great service. The menu can change whenever they feel like it (they print it the day of and can even customize it if you have a special celebration) so you never get bored!

Really excellent French-style food. I usually go for the Arctic Char (a hybrid salmon trout fish) which has never let me down. The pistachio-crusted pork tenderloin is also awesome. The onion rings are apparently awesome but are also seasonal so I've never had the opportunity to try them. The salads and deserts have also never let me down. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fine dining experience because they don't disappoint. The owner is usually working the crowd so if something is amiss, just speak to him--very friendly guy and very approachable!

My husband and I ate at Cafe Vin for the first time today and it was beyond expectation. The pistachio crusted pork tenderloin was juicy, tender and so flavorful. We had a wonderful dinner with our immediate family after a funeral, and this was an ideal spot for our group of 7. They were able to customize a menu with the picture of my father-in-law (at the restaurant) which was a nice touch. All of our meals were wonderful, the service was great, and we weren't rushed. It was also pleasantly quiet -- enough so that we could all enjoy our stories without having to compete with a noisy atmosphere. It had the feel of a well-loved neighborhood restaurant that focused on the food and experience more than a glitzy concept or decor. I would definitely dine there again and especially for a special occasion.
