Do not order the juicy Lucy! I've been to Matt's and the 5-8 Club (all 3 of them). The Cardinals juicy Lucy is extremely plain. Other than that it is a great bar. Sharpen that burger up guys!

Their food is pretty good and they have a decent happy hour. It seemed like a good mix of regulars and newcomers. Their patio is where everyone goes to smoke, so if you don't enjoy smelling cigarette smoke avoid their patio.

Nice bar area, but the highlight for me is the burger selection. They have a take on the Juicy Lucy, but my favorite is the mushroom and Swiss. Great atmosphere in the summer when the big doors are open and there’s a nice breeze.

Always awesome. I live downtown Minneapolis and frequently light rail to the MOA. The Cardinal is a small place with big heart. There are always regulars there but first and some timers are always welcome with open arms. This is a just try place. I am excited to visit for taco Tuesday!

Great neighborhood joint! Lots of locals and a lot of character in this place, and it's family-friendly to boot! Great burgers and "bar food", various specials, bingo/trivia/karaoke in the evenings. Right at the 38th St. light rail stop. Family owned and run, they make everyone feel welcome.

Great food, great service, great location. I've been coming here since i was a kid and the people that work here are always super friendly. The place is a south mpls staple, if your lucky you might even spot Viva and Jerry. The only reason i didn't give it 5 stars is because they are strictly beer and wine, so if you want any of the hard stuff you have to bring your own.

Relaxing neighborhood dive bar. The tater tots are some of the best in the city. Easy to get to as it is on the Light Rail at 38th street station. Decent beer selection...something for everyone. I will post a photo of the tots next time. Cheers!

We went to the Cardinal for trivia (hosted by Donna, of Trivia Mafia, who is outstanding). This place is packed, probably because it's a really fun time with solid dive bar food and beer. We sat at a pool table with plywood on top of it and had a wonderful time.

I LOVE the Cardinal! I had the stevie wings. Even though the special looked yummy (beef sandwich with mash and gravy) my waitress was lovely like always! She suggested to me and my guy that we put the phones down and talk (very nice and jokingly of course) but we did! We ended up having a very nice convo.

Food is ok, space is a dive (in a good way), service is inconsistent. They do a story of "zone defense" strategy, so you'll have 4 different people checking in on you and helping with your order, but they'll all come by at once and then ignore you for an hour.

More of a neighborhood bar that also happens to offer food. Food choices were average neighborhood bar style American food. Burgers were OK; nothing amazing but nothing horrible. Some odds choices though considering the food such as no mayo (they only have Miracle Whip). This is a place to go to grab a drink and then decent to eat rather than go there just to eat.

We go here for happy hour a lot, and the staff is wonderful. You can hardly finish a drink before three people offer to bring you another one! Good drink prices, good craft tap list for a dive bar, and good bar food -- try the deep-fried pickles! They have karaoke, pool, and trivia, too.

The Cardinal has never let me down. Extremely friendly staff, casual environment, cheap and a surprisingly vast variety of comfort foods. Portions are WELL worth what you pay. Sometimes a little busy, but wait staff keeps up with the flow very well. People are used to bad service these days, but the Cardinal is a great exception and will leave you happy, full and you'll leave with extra cash in your pocket. The best is the all you can eat fish fry on Fridays!

My experience here was ordering to go burgers for a crew. 14 burgers where ready in a half an hour and they were excellent. Take out boxes had all fixings on the side making it easy for everyone to decide what they wanted or didn't want to put on. Customers and workers were all satisfied. Burners were juicy and lots of cheese. Even after sitting for thirty minutes until everyone was ready to eat.

Went to get a drink with my friend. He used his Colombian ID and the women working would not accept his ID. We said that was fine and we walked back to play pool and big buck hunter and she followed us and told us we HAD to leave because he did not have an ID. I saw children in there with their family and we were not drunk and I just paid for my beer. She was clearly being discriminatory and forcing us to leave. Will never go back.

I was treated to a very tasty Sunday breakfast, including good coffee. The servers were friendly and attentative. Although my friend picked up the tab, I couldn't help but notice the prices for items on the menu were quite reasonable. Although it's a bar with a restaurant inside, it is more of a family/neighborhood oriented type of gathering place. Definitely recommend checking the Cardinal out for breakfast.

I can cross it off my list of places to go back. *In response to Cardinal Bar* Jalapeno poppers and the deep fried mushrooms both came out of a food service box. Wipe the ice crystals off them and throw them in the deep fryer. Not terrible, but a step above. The burger was flavorless. Throw some salt and pepper on there. The food wasn't bad, but it was not memorable either. Makes it hard to come back when there is so many choices out there.

The Cardinal s a total neighborhood bar, conveniently located along the blue line. This place is probably the closest thing Minneapolis has to Cheers, with patrons walking in and being familiarly greeted by the crowd at the bar, and servers knowing exactly what couples planned to order. The menu is standard, greasy spoon meets super club. The bar is limited to beer and wine (no liquor here). But the staff will check on you around the clock, even if they're not your server. Filled glasses, Saturday night karaoke, pull-tabs... This place feels like home.

Really hard to rate. Inside is updated dive bar which is not a bad thing. Outside is an interesting mix of smokers and dogs with a direct view of the LRT. Basic feel of 3.2 bar but they do have wine and spirits. Worth a visit - may be exactly what you are looking for or an interesting one-time interlude.
