Just to give you an idea of how good a sandwich shop this is, I'm starting a low carb diet tomorrow and this is where I went for my last carb laden meal. Love their chicken sandwiches. They flatten it so it completely covers the bun, which means chicken in every bite. Did I mention it is locally owned? A hidden gem. Go here instead of any of the sandwich chains. Trust me. You will not be disappointed.

Super delicious sandwich and great staff. I need gluten free food with no cross exposure. Staff was super careful with my food prep, including clean gloves and a separate prep area. I did not experience any ill effects after eating here. Will definitely return.

Stopped in for lunch on a cold, wet MN day. Great tunes, happy staff enjoying their work, and great overall hospitality. I was blown away by the food too. Thick but tender roast beef, subtle blue cheese, killer tomato, and just enough bun. Coming back to try the rest. They had a Banh MI special this time around. It was pretty good. Good amount of heat served "spicy" so fair warning to those who find ketchup daring.

I don’t know why we’ve never tried this place sooner! We’ve lived close for years, but I think we always assumed it was just another sandwich shop chain. WRONG! It’s family owned, and the people who work there are so sweet and genuine. They make homemade soups every morning like mushroom, tomato, potato, and beer cheese. The mushroom is AMAZING, and we’ve yet to try the beer cheese (but it comes highly recommended). The sandwiches are made right in front of you, and they cook the meat to order. We’ve really liked the Big Joe and Honeycrisp Melt with chicken. Can’t wait to go back and keep trying more!

Great sandwich place! Way better than Subway. Not a huge menu, but lots of ways to customize your sandwich. They have good GF bread too. A friendly staff and a cozy atmosphere make for a great lunch experience. Check it out! Btw, I've eaten here at least 5 times & haven't been disappointed yet.

Nice local place to stop in for lunch. Great service and great food. We had the Italian sandwich and the Sawmill and both were amazing! The Sawmill was my favorite, the bread and chicken were excellent. Tried the Tomatoe basil soup as well and that was also great. Also, had to try their shakes as well. Had the chocolate shake and it was excellent. Excellent stop and loved all the MN local photography around the restaurant. All the workers were helpful in their recommendations and they were all friendly and great to work with.

Nice little independent sandwich shop with a wide variety of sandwiches. Some of my favorites are the Honeycrisp Melt (vegetarian option), Rueben and the Paul’s Favorite (meatloaf sandwich). Good portion size for the price, friendly staff, and a nice clean cozy interior seating area. Their milkshakes are a little on the thin side, not a bad thing gust FYI.

The Buffalo Chicken sandwich is incredible. Cooked to order it is fresh and fried perfectly. Also an option to get grilled chicken instead. The meatloaf sandwich is homemade and the perfect comfort food. Love all the options for toppings as well. Everything I've had here is great, definitely worth the stop.

A small sandwich shop with a little better variety than the standard chains. I had the meatloaf sandwich on a roll. The sandwich had a good flavor and came with chips and a drink for a reasonable price. Service was very friendly and prompt. Overall a good experience and worth checking out.

It’s the definition of what a locally owned store should be!! After another poor experience at the Jersey Mike’s on Cliff I will be making the slightly longer drive to Blue Ox from here on out, where I know I’ll get a great sandwich at an affordable price. Even if I have to drive a little further.

If you're craving an amazing chicken sandwich there is no comparison. Big Joe/ Mighty Buffalo are two of my favorites, but the walleye sandwich and meatloaf are delicious too.

I'm not sub person, but my husband requested we come here as his choice while we were in the cities. As someone who doesn't care for sandwich joints, let me tell you this one is outstanding!! The bread is amazing and the shakes are to die for. We will definitely be back next time we're in the cities! We actually went back for our last lunch before heading home. Pretty darn good crispy chicken sandwich... freshly breaded and fried. It's too bad they don't have french fries... and I was disappointed that the caramelized onions were done ahead of time and warmed up. I get that it's kinda fast food, but if they didn't use shortcuts like that, I think it'd only help their restaurant be even better.

Honest to God the best place in the city, if not state. Seriously. The fried chicken sandwiches are HUGE and delicious (I had the buffalo, very good). The meatloaf sandwich is awesome with the lettuce and tomato on it, the chili is good with just enough bite, the Oreo shake is to die for, and the taco salad served with chili as the meat is genius and so good on a hot day. They deliver to my work (a nursing home) and we always group order because we all think this place is the best, and fast/great prices. So glad I was turned on to this place!

I see there is a lot of people that love this place. Maybe i had a bad experience but this was my first time coming here. 1 The first thing, the person that was puting on meats and handling the bread did not have gloves on. 2 they told me double meat was one dollar but when i got the recipe it was 2.50. 3 when i got sandwich #2, it was not good-There was no flavor in the meat it self, it was like simple sandwich meat from walmart and the bread was breaking up in my hands, it did not stay together at all. Maybe i should try this place again, but i would rather go to a different place that i know would not let me down and use better quality of breads and meats. For a cheaper price i paid there.

I ordered the ruben, gyro and chili (i'm indecisive) and all three of the things I ordered were really good. I would definitely order from this place again. Excellent! Went with a group of four and we each split our sandwiches so we could try some different ones. The Reuben on rye was my favorite. We also had a french dip that was excellent and a grilled chicken with cream cheese spread and cucumbers that was messy but delicious and the Meat Axe, not my favorite but my brother, who is a butcher and meat enthusiast, enjoyed it. Their malts were pretty tasty as well. Service was fast and friendly. Will definitely be back.

A locally owned shop with a better variety than the chain sub restuarants, for example, a meatloaf sub. I was impressed at how the food was made fresh. When I ordered the walleye sandwich, they took out a fish filet, breaded it, and fried it to order. Very friendly staff.

Tried their special, a Texas BBQ Brisket sandwich, which was quite good. Honestly, I've had worse BBQ brisket sandwiches from dedicated BBQ restaurants in Texas, so this was especially impressive. I'd love to see this become a regular menu item.

The Blue Ox is the Babe of sandwiches in Burnsville. Some might argue that it is a fast food restaurant and I am inclined to disagree slightly due to the higher quality of food served here. My personal favorite is the walleye sandwich. Give them a shot you won’t be disappointed.

I was hungry and wanting something light for lunch, so I googled restaurants in the area. Blue Ox had great ratings online, so I stopped by for lunch. I am so ecstatic that I found this awesome restaurant! It’s clean and quaint with a lovely menu on the wall. I am a picky eater but after reading the entire menu, I can honestly say I would try anything on the menu. I was greeted with a smile, and the gentleman who started my sandwich for me gave great recommendations for toppings and ways the sandwich tastes best. This is very affordable, and the quality of food is outstanding! I was served a toasted sandwich within a few minutes and it was the most delicious sandwich I have ever had. Ingredients were fresh and just amazingly paired together. I love the drink and chip options, and there are two indoor eating areas and even a patio area. This meal was just amazing, and I am already planning my next trip back. This is family owned and you can tell everyone who works there functions happily and kindly as a team. The kindness is contagious and the food is just so good, you have to try it!!! So I thought since I found Blue Ox on google, I would give them MY first ever google review.

Blue Ox has always had good food, but only recently seem to have livened up with some warm hearted workers. I noticed the difference right away and found out that the other guy who wasn’t super friendly (turned out to be the previous owner) was now gone. I think he just got burned out or something which is too bad but the new owners are lively and always ready with a smile with their superb customer service.

Not bad for a local store. Sandwiches are $8 if you add a drink and side soup it will be $15. Honestly nothing really special. It is just buns, meat and basic vegetables like tomato and lettuce. For that basic quality i say it is pretty overpriced. Just go to Subway unless you support local stores. I took off a star because tables were dirty.

I frequented this sandwich shop a few years ago a few times a week. and always had a good sandwich and the older man with glasses who ran the place was nice and was a good lunch spot when I used to go there a lot. I remember. I stopped by again during the recent snowstorm in April, and being in Burnsville for some appointments and I had wanted a sandwich and remembered BO. I thought the usual sandwich I used to get would be good, ordered it again, but it tasted of lower quality and did not taste the same, and was smaller than what I had before. The bread was soft, fell apart easy, soggy and tasted old, even though it went through the oven, was not toasted very good, did not stay hot long. It seemed like less meat on my sandwich, and should I have asked for a different sandwich,, but I got a important call I needed to attend to and had to leave and did not have time yo address my concern.The employees were nice though and they had Blue Ox hats, so it seemed more marketed and branded now. However; foodwise for me, it seemed more like sub shops that are everywhere and less like the place I used to enjoy..It was not worth the price I paid and for the size, I can go elsewhere and get a sandwich I desire...Thank you

I love sandwiches. And I love smaller, family owned businesses that take the time to make sure their ingredients are fresh. Oh, and I like that you can walk in, order a sandwich, and not walk out smelling like Subway. They make great food, quickly, and with a great attitude.

I had a soup and a full sandwich. The sandwich was very good and so was the soup. The cost was appropriate for sandwich and soup. The service was also fast and polite. My only problem was I was still kind of hungry afterwards. So I would say go for the taste not if you are very hungry. As a bonus they have shakes maybe malts too.
