I enjoy the Root restaurant menu selections that are based on food ingredients acquired from Michigan. Many of the selections are comfort food and are delicious nicely prepared with great presentation. I recently had the Fried Chicken entree that included mashed potatoes, it was delicious. I normally do not eat fried food but this I could not resist. Enjoying the atmosphere is an experience in itself. Nicely designed interior with a contemporary flair, with wood accents that relate to a farm. The restaurant has a really nice bar, and the drink selection is first class. The Root Restaurant is a notch above the other nearby restaurants.

Ive been there for evening drinks a couple times over the last few weeks. The bar staff is friendly and drinks are good but the lighting is horrible. It's like walking into a coney island with a liquor license. I asked the bar staff to look into lowering the lights but they either were unable or decided not to.

MEDIOCRE food, expensive prices. We decided to try this place because of all the great reviews. We don't mind spending a good amount on a meal if it's going to be delicious, however, this food was mediocre at best. We got the fresh fish entree (herb crusted salmon) and the pork dinner followed by the chocolate burrito for dessert. Both entrees and the dessert were lacking in flavor. Nothing special at all. Bill was $64 and we just had water to drink. Service was also mediocre... long wait to take our order, no fresh pepper offered, let our waters get nearly empty, no offer for bread refill, etc... Not impressed at all. We won't be going back.

Quiet, good bread. The stake speical was decent, neither order we got was cooked correctly. We got the burger and it was extreamly dry and burnt. The wait staff was extreamly nice and accomading and apologetic about the food.

WOWOWO. This is a must try. The food here is phenomenal. The pork belly with kimchi on sweet corn is what our server called their baby. I dreamt about it, it was that good. The sweet potato soup is delicious. The pork cops with figs. THAT WAS THE END. My Lord sweet dreams to me. We had banana cream pie for dessert and I don't like bananas and I need desserts but I ate that pie so quickly by golly it was delicious. I usually am really good at taking photos of the food, but all I have is my margarita (honey lavender margarita by the way it was really good). However, I was too excited by the food came out but I started eating it and totally forgot to take photos because my mind was blown.

Very slow service.. it seemed the burgers were beings processed much quicker than other things. The fish special was just ok in quality.. almost $30.. Atmosphere was very nice. Limited menu. Parking good. The baloney sandwich was one thick slice, several grilled or fried thin slices were expected. Cocktails expensive.

I was avoiding giving this review but here goes.Service was good but the food this time was average it's usually great.My.Our Mac and cheese apps sauce was broken so had a puddle of oil at the Bottom of the dish.My wife's fish was very good but my omelet was average at best and had almost no Bacon and that should have been the star of the show and when I asked for toast it took a very long time to come out and was not toasted I think they ran to Kroger to get some whole wheat wonder bread and charged 2 dollars for it.Very disappointed not sure if I'll give them another chance.

Just stopped in for a drink and a quick bite to eat around noon. Sat at the bar. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Had the signature salad and the pork belly appetizer (both of which were delicious). The app was little high priced for the portion size imho but I understand that it's farm-to-table and locally acquired so not surprising. Overall a great experience and will definitely come back for dinner to try some of the other dishes because everything sounded amazing.

Met a friend for brunch here, and it was a great experience. I had the eggs benedict and she had the lavender pancakes. Both were excellent. I also had a Bloody Mary, which was good, nothing exceptional. It came with a beer back, and I had my choice of two beers. Our server was fast and friendly, and I love the decor of the restaurant. Prices are a little high, but for the quality of food and smbiance, I'm happy to pay a little more.

This place was awful! They had about 10 people working here at the same time, sat at the bar and the bartender was taking care of the tables and walking away from the bar the whole time. Went in for a drink and maybe food, but the service sucked. Guy next to us came in for a drink and food and left after his beer because it was such awful service. Will never go back again! So awful that it’s around all the stores bc it could be a great place to stop and eat while shopping, but no one has time for this awful place.

I like creative meals and ate at many fantastic restaurants that were creative when I lived in New York. The Root offered creative options but they were odd combinations of foods and flavors which made the menu difficult to navigate. The atmosphere was great but I'd be unlikely to recommend this restaurant to anyone who might have a narrower palate than the chef.

So delicious from start to finish. My husband and I have dined downtown Detroit for our last few date nights to try the “new” hot spots. We finally tried the root (and had been meaning to for a long time). It was AMAZING (and to be honest better than all the downtow spots). This is a great gem that is hidden in a small strip mall. The atmosphere and decor is fantastic. The staff was very friendly but not over the top. Did I mention the food? It is delicately designed. The textures and flavors were amazing for my dish and for everyone I ate with. We did have an issue with a steak that was tough. The manager quickly diffused the situation and comped the dish then preceded to give free desserts to the whole table. We were served espresso over gelato and I could have eaten it until I exploded. We all walked away satisfied with money well spent. All in all this is a restaurant that you should visit at least once to experience what true farm to table dining is like.

Hands down one of the best locally sourced restaurants in Michigan. Chef James is phenomenal and it shows in the food. There is something for every one here, whether its $2 taco Tuesday... The $10 awesome burger or a $30 steak. It will be one of the best dining experiences you will have. The staff has never been anything less than attentive and we frequent here very often

Everything was great; the food, the ambiance & service was all fantastic! My boyfriend came here once for our anniversay years ago and we have come back every year since. On our first visit, he ordered the smoked meatloaf (Michigan beef, crushed baby potatoes, Brussels sprouts, roasted mushroom gravy, pecorino) and loved it! The portion was so big he ate half and took the rest home and it was enough for another meal! I opted for the Tasting menu. I ordered the Baked Michigan Brie starter (Reny Picot Triple Crème Brie in puff pastry, arugula, radish, dried cherries, fresh apple with Michigan maple & black pepper balsamic vinaigrette), The Root Orchard Salad (apple, red leaf, almond, dried cherries, blue cheese, pickled onion, bacon and Spicer’s hard cider vinaigrette), Miller Farms Amish Chicken & Dumplings (grilled breast, crispy skin thigh, ricotta gnocchi, bacon, shiitakes, peas & ‘spring’ broth), and the tiramisu for dessert. Everything was wonderful! They switch up the menu regularly so we usually get something new each time but our favorites are the baked brie and orchard salad. The restaurant is upscale on the inside, but the dress is casual. It is nice to eat such a nice meal, but feel relaxed and casual. I wish it was closer so I could go back more often.

Food wise I had the onion soup which was also unbelievelably good along with the chicken and waffles which I tried. The quiche was exceptional as well. I've been here a couple times, I've always had an amazing experience, the servers are all very knowledgeable about everything on the menu, today my server was Ryan and he did an amazing job at helping me pair the food drinks and dessert, very sweet and took his time explaining some of the items on the menu to me. The food was absolutely amazing everything tasted so fresh. The chef is very creative with the food, the taste and presentation was phenomenal! I'd say it's more of an upscale restaurant, but there were plenty of families with young children. Just a great place overall, I would highly recommend!

If you're into trendy food, you'll love this place. They have pretty unique food like avocado toast that I've never thought about eating before, and the atmosphere is a combination of an upper class restaurant and a local bar. The waiter I had was super friendly and knowledgeable. I wasn't a huge fan of the food here, but I know that some people would love this, the more adventurous type.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I love their vegetarian and vegan menu. Depending on which fresh ingredients are available, there's always something different! They support and promote local resources, and offer organic options whenever possible. The decor is unique, the atmosphere is soothing, and there's an outside seating area when weather allows. Although their prices are a bit higher here, you definitely get what you're paying for: fresh, quality, locally sourced, often organic, exquisitely prepared cuisine, in a warm, inviting atmosphere, with great service and selection!

Caveat emptor! Ridiculously over priced and over rated. Service was sooooo slow. Our waiter had no sense of urgency about him. The bread for the table was so small that it would have been laughable if it weren't so expensive and small. It tasted good though. If you go here, be prepared to wait a long time and get really small portions. Kids meals were also stupidly over priced. BEWARE - the kid meals come with a fountain drink included but if you order milk or lemonade, you will be charged for it.

The Root stays consistent. It's been years since I've been here and remains true to its principles of locally-sourced ingredients prepared in simple yet delicious ways. The menu choices aren't vast because of seasonality, which I love because each item is thoughtfully put on the menu and executed well. The menu isn't overly fanciful and the prices reflect that. Great place to take your kids--many choices for them, along with elevated food that the parents will enjoy without breaking the bank. This restaurant takes pride in locally-sourced ingredients. They even provide a card on the table with all the different farms and locations that they source from. Stays on my short list!

However, the rest of the menu is good, but nothing really stands out as amazing. That, and it sorely needs an update with some new items added. Have been to their brunch many times in the past 6 months. Each time the food is cooked extremely well, the quality is superb and the staff are friendly and on top of everything. We had a large party of 16 with a number of children. Our food was delivered without an issue, timely and with appropriate consideration for some individuals. Everyone left satisfied with their selection and amount of food ingested. It's worth visiting particularly if you like healthy options.

A unique dining experience. Healthy food ,beautifully prepared and served. Delicious and reasonably priced. We dined from the brunch menu and were pleasantly pleased. The waiter was delightful and knowledgeable about the recipes.

We held a brunch for 50 people for our guests that came in from out of town for my daughter's wedding. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding! The restuarant had the perfect atmosphere for our guests and Mo was very kind & helpful with planning the brunch. We will definitely make a point to stop in and eat here the next time we are in Michigan and will be sure to recommend it to our friends & family.

I LOVE this place. This is my favorite restaurant. Ignore all the negative reviews. Amazing quality food, healthy, made from scratch. I cant get over the chef's and bar tenders creativity. What they put together is amazing. Great service. Give it a try.

Unfortunately this place has gone downhill in the last year or so it's a shame it was one of our favorite places. The menus very limited and unless they have something on the special sheet it's pretty boring anymore that was what was always exciting about The Root is it had unique menu items now it's just boring.

Our party of four dined here on a Saturday night. The food and service was phenomenal. Our waiter was very attentive and explained their menu options and ingredients they use at the Root. We were very impressed they always use fresh ingredients, and meals are created from scratch. Great vegan options too. From our appetizers to our dessert the meal was amazing. We appreciated that their manager stopped by our table to see how we were enjoying our meal and if we needed anything. Highly recommend the Root for a dining experience you won't find anywhere else in the area.

Great atmosphere and nicely decorated. I was surprised to find this restaurant in the middle of a strip mall in White Lake. We order the pork belly to start, and although it was sizably small (not much to share for parties over 2) it was delicious. The Char Burger on the other hand was disappointing. The beef was dry and lacked flavor. The mac&cheese was like a bowl of oil with cheese on top. The fries and overall plate presentation was great.

The Burger was good. My friends tried the tasting menu options and loved their dishes. The chef has many award from Hour Detroit and other publications. House fries were great and burger option was reasonably priced. I had a bartender's special for a drink and was not disappointed. Picked this place to meet with some friends in the middle and glad to find a nice restaurant. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very clean setup too.

It was a cozy atmosphere, but the waffles tasted like bread, more so than what they’re supposed to, and couldn’t finish it was so bland, but the server nicely took it off the bill. Overall, wasn’t too pleased the other times but I’d say it’s an okay restaurant

Excellent service. The food was top notch. A very modern atmosphere with a casual feel.large bar area, also lots of booth and table seating good selection of craft beer on tap. They have an extensive wine list, and a wide variety of liquor on display at the bar. Interesting they have an open view into the kitchen area. Also they offer cooking demonstrations/ classes, summer dates were listed on the board. Very clean and we'll kept inside. Daily specials. Brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Gift cards available also. Definitely a good place for groups large and small. Homemade onion soup was to die for.

I haven't eaten here since the ownership change, but the few times I visited were consistently good. The menu never felt stale and the food was always delicious. The wait staff rounded out the experience and provided attentive service.
