The brunch is good, but not amazing. I got the Duck and Sweet Potato hash, duck was tender, but I wouldn't call this dish a hash. Would have appreciated some deeper flavors. The restaurant itself is decorated very nicely and staff are friendly and attentive. Prices are up there for what you get.

Stunning restored firehouse is large open room, open kitchen with comfortable booth seating or more casual bar seats. Menu is shareable plates from Brussels sprouts to risotto and finely done diver scallops and salmon dishes. Wine list is commendable and service warm and professional.

I thought the food was quite good, although I'd hesitate to call it great. Very nice selection at the bar, I didn't have any of their specialty cocktails, but the couple drinks I had were well crafted. The space is fantastic - both interesting and comfortable, and the service was impeccable.

My family and I went here for lunch on a weekend, the place was relatively less busy as we got there at the tail end of lunch hour. We immediately loved the ambiance and the open kitchen. The menu was simple yet offered multiple options, we are all vegetarians and we enjoyed the risotto, cauliflower, heritage wheat bread and desserts. Will go back for dinner sometime to check out the full menu. And I almost forgot to mention, the cocktails were great too! :)

Very bad service... no halal friendly food... just because I didn't want to join the chef choice menu, six others were turned down by the chef! The waitress didn't care for few people's show of support for my special diet restriction. Served uncooked salmon! Small portions... charged for parking... expected more from a highly expensive restaurant...Worst experience!

This was our first time. The food was amazing. I had the burger and my wife had the pancakes, both were delicious. Service from our server and the wait staff was almost instantaneous (I wouldn’t expect that if they’re super busy). Staff was also really accommodating to my son’s stroller! Overall, really great experience and I would come back.

I've passed by this place several times and they always seem busy; after finally dinning in I see why. I went foundation after dark event which showcases Detroit artists. The night I went wasn't too packed for the event, but the other half of the restaurant (the dinning in section) was packed!! We sat at the bar and service was A1!! I ordered the chicken sandwich which came with fries. Both were delicious and the food came fast. The bartenders were super cool, great convo and recommendations on the menu. I'll definitely be back.

Went for the Pork Belly Porchetta style shared meal. The flavors were outstanding. The only hitch in the giddy up was that the waiter didn't have great command of the options at the bar. He had to come back twice asking us to choose another type of drink because the bar did not have what we originally ordered. There was a special event there that evening which made it a little loud, but overall a great experience.

I’ve been twice, the first time was served undercooked chicken, which the restaurant was very accommodating about ... and the second time was just not impressed with the price vs quality. There are a lot of beautiful restaurants with the same atmosphere downtown that serve up food worth raving about!

Wow!! Such an organized, refreshing, and eclectic establishment! Makes you forget about the price food and drinks because you what you spend is worth the money! The house chips were amazing, which are served warm and with a house dipping sauce. The staff is professional and friendly... we were served by Bree and Brandon at the bar. I Visited the Apparatus Room for a late Valentine's day Celebration. Both my girlfriend and I chose the Chef's Tasting Menu - BEST CHOICE EVER. Not only the Chef's menu offered a variety of dishes (all cooked to perfection), but it allowed to fully display the incredible skills of the kitchen's staff, as well as the chef himself. The ambiance was also incredible, and so was the service - our waitress,Chelsea, not also was incredibly nice, but served all dishes with impeccable timing - she gave us a well deserved break just before dessert and chatted with us for some time about her upcoming travelling adventures (good luck in Japan!). Incredible experience, but from a personal and culinary standpoint. Would give 6 stars if I had the chance !

First time dining at the Apparatus room. Super cute. Great experience. Loved the atmosphere. Open kitchen was great to watch! I have to say the staff is well managed. Just watching the flow of everyone duties from the kitchen up to the front of the door, was impeccable! I had reservations at 7pm and my husband and I finished eating 8pm. Plates come out fast and hot after you order!! Couldn’t believe how fast we were turned. Highly recommend this great site! The food was delicious. The menu was superb.

I have a friend who has been talking about the Apparatus Room in the Detroit Foundation Hotel for several months. I was able to talk my partner into giving the place a try, I wanted to see how a Detroit fire station was restored and to find out if my friend knew what he was talking about. I was pleased with the restoration and need to applaud the company for its ability to keep the historical pieces of the building in place, while modernizing the building.

Make a reservation first and then go ahead with reading this review. Fire house converted into one of the best dinner restaurants of Detroit downtown. One can only experience the aura of this place after visiting it. Ambiance is excellent and the magnificent service is cheery on top. Did I mention the deserts are a treat. I have tried almost 70% of the dishes from their menu and I would say nothing, I mean nothing is not great tasting. Blindly put a finger on the menu and wait for chefs to amaze you with the dishes. Be it a fried cauliflower appetizer or northern Atlantic cod, every dish gets the same attention. Wine menu isn’t extraordinary and prices on some of the bottles are twice of what you can get them for. This is I would say one of my favorite date night restaurants. Noise level is low and low hanging yellow smooth lights elevates the atmosphere. If you’re not doing valet, make sure you pay the parking fee online. Parking enforcement people are just waiting!

This place is aesthetically pleasing. It's in a converted old firehouse. Great art work.. Eclectic mix of old and new structure. Excellent food. Prepared very well! The stuffed Bacon wrapped Trout was amazing, as well as the Scallop dish with broccoli Wonderful selection of artisan teas and IPA''s. Very good service. Love this place!

Wonderful ambiance, creative drinks This bar is connected to the Detroit Foundation Hotel and is full of charm. It was once a fire house and so much of the original facade remains. Be sure to check out some of the old pictures around the bar of what it used to be.

Celebrated our anniversary at the Apparatus room. Very interesting place… they’ve renovated an old fire station into a wonderful restaurant. Our table was ready when we arrived (on time). Our server might have been the happiest person I’ve met… she was lovely and very helpful. The food was exquisite. I had the chicken… it was quite a bit of food, but it was perfectly and expertly prepared. Interesting seasonings. Dessert was some sort of chocolate thing (can’t remember it’s name) and it was terrific. They could improve the wines by the glass that are offered. And, bring your credit card… it’s a smidge pricey. But for a special occasion, worth it.

Listening to Jazz while eating breakfast is an awesome way to spend your Sunday after church. The space was well thought out, planned and beautifully done. I only gave it 4 stars due to limited vegan options which were oatmeal with candied pecans and salad both were delicious, I couldn't have the berries because they are mixed with strawberries (allergy). I hope they expand their menu to include more vegan options. The hostess I believe she was gave us an excellent tour of the hotel Detroit Foundation Hotel. What an amazing use the space I can't wait to stay their.

Ordered an Old Fashioned on a Saturday morning and it was pure bliss! In addition, the entire place is a work of art, very well furnished with tons of mid century modern pieces. The bar stands out the most in the middle of the room with an impressive collection of liquor and decorated with an array of light bulbs. Truly an immersive experience!

Located inside the Foundation Hotel. Got off to a rocky start when I didn't have a reservation, but planned to just squeeze in at the bar. Turns out one side of the bar has a very limited menu only. To order off the full menu you have to order from a table or be seated at the other side of the bar. It was a 40 min wait at 8pm for a seat at the full menu bar. Worth the wait though. Food was delicious and service was impeccable.

What an incredible dining experience! First of all our dining chairs were the BEST! High boy leather chairs, snuggle in and dine on the most exquisite food! Our waitress, Dawn, was terrific in her explainations and patience with us newbies! Our appetizers so unique and delish! Must try the smoked salmon on mini english muffins. Our entrees were AMAZING!!! Two of us ordered The short ribs. They were the most tender and flavorful I've ever had. My husband had the pork chop and raved how tender it was. The brussel sprouts and mushroom sides were an excellent add on. We enjoyed the ambience while finishing our cocktails. If you are thinking of going don't think twice!

We arrived and loved the atmosphere! The service however was not as good. We saw burgers coming out of the kitchen and inquired on why they were not located on the menu? Our server said it was only for customers dining in the lounge area and did not offer us this option. My wife ordered a soup and asked for no bacon as she is a vegetarian. After she found a piece of bacon inside of her soup we notified the server and asked to have the soup brought back and removed from the bill, as she no longer wished to eat it (for obvious reasons.) The server came back and said that it wasn't bacon, it was squash. I tasted it, it was definitely bacon. Overall experience was okay but the service was not something I expect in this type of establishment. Burgers looked amazing. My advice is to dine in the lounge area.

Great food. Disclaimer: went for a work party, where I didn't have to pay for anything. The food was pretty unique, and the drinks were delicious. I'd recommend this for a "date-night". Close to plenty of accessible and secure parking, has valet (if that's your thing) and close to lots of "stuff" downtown.

Finally something new and unique in Detroit. Spent a lot of time on the west coast and ate a lot of food out there, and this place is about the closest you’ll get to high end expertly designed food in Detroit. I’ve been here countless times, mostly for lunch, and it is consistently good food. If you don’t like “cheffy “ food then it’s probably not for you, but if you enjoy unique combinations of flavors, ingredients, and just a great dining experience and atmosphere overall, this place is for you.

Very strong service. Fantastic food. Fair price points. Highly recommend for a lively evening in downtown Detroit. Highlights include the Pickwick Daiquiri which was simply delicious, the fried cauliflower which made me wish they actually had more kimchi dishes, and the farm chicken. I was surprised pricing was as good as it is (great value) since hotels tend to run aggressive markups (The Henry is most infamous where a double Tito's and soda will cost you $18). Only complaint from me is the barstaff needs to rethink their approach to garnish... The colored paperclips look awesome but the color comes off into the drink which makes me wonder about the safety (photos included for before and after). I am very impressed by the Apparatus Room and will most definitely return. Recommended for: team dinners(business), fun semi casual dates, those who love a well mixed drink.

Awesome ambiance / design, comfortable seating, great staff, interesting food descriptions (on the menu), nice food presentation (on the plate), good portions... BUT... the actual food was FINE, like super OK, like it did not taste particularly good or interesting at all. After food, drinks, desert and tip our party of 4 spent about $400, for that price I'd expect to be wowed by the food, but I was not. I get way more interesting flavors when I make a blue apron mean at home. The flavors and textures of the food were like something I make at home when I don't know what to make and don't have time to go shopping... Again, everything here was awesome but the food which was the most OK food I've ever paid top dollar for.

Very hip and now... unlike me. The room is very cool and has a mix of shared and private seating. Decent bar space. Drinks are pricey but unique and excellent. Super loud, and pretty packed on a thursday. Cute french bulldog pup indoors, making friends... and pissing on the rug. That seems odd.

Great atmosphere in the old Detroit Fire Department headquarters' apparatus room. We had the Chefs menu, it was wonderful. We paired some of the courses with different wines selected by our waiter Alexy. He did a great job, friendly and helpful. He even found us a good club to go to after to hear some great Jazz.

Apparatus Room is not only a great spot for eclectic but NOT foo foo food, servers are great. Angela, Jodie and Jessica lead the way. GM Alex knows her stuff and is always eager to please. Hot ,spicy Cauliflower as appetizer, Various inventive Risottos and unique desserts led by wild Bolivian chocolate cake with sorbet. WOW. Top of my list for Detroit restaurants.

Great atmosphere. Loved the jazz brunch although thought the music should have played the whole time. Lemon curd blueberry pancakes are to die for! The server recommended the mushroom omelette. While good, I felt it was a little bland. It is a very light dish that could have used a bit more evoo on the arugula salad. Also, I was almost done with my dish before our server checked out on us. She missed a side order of meat and another mimosa if she had.

This is a great downtown Detroit bar and restaurant, a great example of Detroit's revival. The atmosphere is relaxed, but the decor and food upscale. The staff is great, very friendly and funny. The ice coffee in the morning was amazing, and they have many fresh baked pastries. The dinner menu has lots of variety, and what I had was delicious.

Located near Cobo at the Foundation Hotel, the Apparatus Room is a spectacular space that showcases equally spectacular food. We met up with earlier reservations than I would have liked because I was late booking our table but this turned out to be in our favor, allowing us a long evening of food and talk. My friends waited for me in the eye-catching bar area and enjoyed their creative cocktail combinations as I got caught up in event traffic.

Amazing!! My wife and I made reservations for our wedding anniversary. It was the first time for both of us. The overall decor is visually stunning (this is the same location they filmed Hugh Jackman’s “Real Steel”) and it is now a restaurant. The service was outstanding.. our waitress suggested an 8 course chef’s tasting menu and it did not disappoint!!! We were stuffed!! My wife is somewhat of a picky eater but she ate every single thing that chef plated for us. That’s saying something! I myself love to cook so when we go out to eat It is refreshing to bite into a piece of food and think “wow!! I couldn’t have done this at home.” I asked if I could speak to the chef and tell him what a wonderful experience we had and to my surprise within 5min of my request I was having a full on conversation with the chef! He told us about some dishes and even offered to make a personal call to an exclusive cocktail lounge downtown so we could get right in and avoid the 3hr wait list!! Everything about The Apparatus room was top-notch and we cannot wait to go back!!!

Beautiful Restaurant with 2 sides for either an Intimate sit down meal or for casual cocktails. Both have incredibly comfy seating and fantastic food. The pricing is a bit inflated however they arent stingy on portions. Definitely worth splurging on.

Had a holiday dinner with 4 adults and 2 children. Greatly appreciated the kids menu! My husband and I love to visit restaurants like this and have wanted to start bringing our children with us so they can gain the experience. Our sons gifted us with an anniversary dinner here. This was our first visit and aside from the slightly rude hostess who refused to seat us until 5pm (we arrived at 4:57 for our 5:15pm reservation, despite there being many available tables), we really enjoyed our dinner. The rest of the staff were all very pleasant and personable. The appetizers were a wonderful start to our meal. We all enjoyed our entrees and the ambience of the restaurant. Our waitress was fantastic and we will definitely return in the future.

The food here was absolutely fantastic! We went with a chef's tasting menu and were blown away by all of our courses. Truly wonderful. Our biggest issue was the service we received. We were sat and waited 15 minutes before our server came over to say hello and offer us water. Throughout the night, he was inattentive and was definitely a bummer from what we were expecting. I'll give it another shot because the food was fabulous, hoping it was just an off night for the waiter.

One of the most amazing bar/restaurants I have ever seen. The building is unbelievable. From the expanse of glass around the restaurants perimeter to the perfectly created little areas to sit around the fireplace there is not ONE thing to change about this place. It is so cozy and relaxed in the bar area that you almost feel as though you are having cocktails in your own living room. I especially love the fireplace and the firehouse doors. Besides the ambiance the staff are friendly and quick to help you out. I tried brunch last month and that was even great!

The room is beautiful and the atmosphere is great. The food was downright bad. We went around noon on a Saturday and we were given the brunch menu. My wife got a sausage hash, which looked really good but the potatoes were not cooked, like not at all.. totally gross and inedible. I got the chicken sandwich which was okay, really fatty chicken with poor seasoning, would of been much happier with a sandwich from Chick-fil-A for 1/3 the price. I might go again and just get a drink, but I'd be sure to steer clear of the food. Also our waitress disappeared for about 25 minutes after the food was served.. Beautiful room, bad food, and poor service.

Beautiful atmosphere and great interior design, which are the main reasons why I ever want to eat here. The food is okay, but definitely difficult for picky eaters such as myself. Some of the seating arrangements are uncomfortable (the height of the table is too tall), so would recommend asking to move if you feel uncomfortable. I've gone here for breakfast and lunch and both were good. The atmosphere is really the best part.

The Apparatus Room is a unique space with great ambiance and even better food. The place is buzzing all the time and is a clear hot spot in Detroit right now. I've been multiple times and have had different dishes each visit and have been amazed with each meal. This place is definitely worth a visit! Reservations book pretty far in advance, so make sure that you call early.

What a great place to have some amazing food. The warehouse scenery for the restaurant was amazing. For the appetizer I had capital point oysters with compressed melon and shiso, with pickled deviled eggs that had red beets pimento cheese and candied jalapeno. For the main course it was porcini & artichoke ravioli with pea carrots and ham dashi. For dessert I had a version of a peach peach cobbler that was so good and Thank you so much to the waiter that was knowledgeable on the food.

Second time I've been there. Disappointed they didnt have crown royal apple. Our waiter was outstanding, Nick, everything he recommended was excellent. My hamburger was the best I ever had, I mean the best. The cauliflower appetizer was delicious. Cannot wait to go back.

This was my first experience at this hotel and restaurant. I can assure you what will not be my last! The food is amazing on the service is point on. are you interacted with probably five of the staff members for sale six maybe everybody attentive, and informed. The vibe of the restaurant space the Apparatus Room was alive and vibrant just all in all the whole experience was beautiful. I look forward to spending a weekend in the hotel and just checking out the area

Even though the bar area and casual side of the restaurant were nearly empty the restaurant side was bustling and it was difficult to hear across the table. I would request a table with chairs next time as the bench we sat on was uncomfortable. Definitely worth a visit!

Our Apparatus Room dinner with friends was outstanding. First of all what a great idea in Detroit to reuse a fire hall. They left as much of the original fire hall as possible and it really adds to the ambiance. That plus the circle bar, unique lighting and the comfortable seating around the big room really makes it an unusual and a fun place to visit. Now it's talk about the food. Outstanding. It's easy to see why the chef has a Michelin star. I started with a farrow risotto and could have just had that for dinner but everyone spoke so highly of the veal that I had to try that as well. They were absolutely right. The veal pulled apart in the most tender marinated way I was extremely happy with it & the veggies that were included. Around the table we had a variety of selections. Two people started with a very rich stuffed pork belly and ate every morsel. One friend had the crusted chicken and it was so large she ended up taking half of it home. My one friend had the flank steak and he ate every bit of it as well as our other friend who had corn soup and the cod. We had to share dessert even though we were stuffed and we had a pistachio cake with ice cream dessert that was just almost too pretty to eat. If you want to spend a bit more money than you might normally but get your full money's worth, this is the place to try! Thank you Detroit for saving a wonderful building and including a great chef and menu.

The Apparatus is a great restaurant for those seeking an atheistic environment for sipping craft beers and hand mixed drinks. Bringing us back to the good ol’ days when service was slow and limited, The Apparatus provides a true Detroit experience. The food is less than satisfactory, and portions were ridiculously minuscule. Flavor combinations did not work in the slightest resulting in multiple disgusting meals. Their failure to accommodate large parties is truly underwhelming. The food preparation was very slow and not worth the wait. Their abridged large party menu omits many favorites such as Grilled Ham and Pimento Cheese sandwich; Heirloom Squash soup; and the Foundation Club sandwich. This restaurant is not ideal for large parties or parties with children. The food presentation upheld the picturesque standards established by the outstanding atmosphere. *It is highly advised that this restaurant shall be seen more as an artistic experience for the modern, renovated historic fire station that houses this “restaurant”, and definitely NOT a place to grab some tasty American cuisine. More attention to the actual food is required for this establishment to be considered a true restaurant*

The Apparatus room is the Detroit Foundation Hotels restaurant and while many hotels of this caliber offer a restaurant the Apparatus Room stands out on it's own. Making use of the incredible unique space it occupies that was once a fire station they've utilized it perfectly to provide an energetic and vibrant bar while still offering an intimate dinning experience. The food is top notch, offering an extremely versatile menu that is consistently updated and the staff is always friendly and quick to greet you.

Outstanding food and service. Price wise this place is on the higher end, expect $40 per person at minimum, that said it's absolutely worth it. Decor is beautiful and the food is some of the best I've had. If you're coming here for a date though, do be aware that it's pretty noisy.

The burger was cooked to a perfect medium like I asked for. The fries were a great upgrade, they are generously seasoned and come with a good dipping sauce. The pickled onion served on a skewer through the burger was delicious!

Pretty much terrible service today..... Server wasn't attentive and didn't offer options or asked my questions; had to ask several times for a piece of loaf. Food was made from leftover and smelled like a puke. The waiter was rude with attitude, Worse of all, no managers walked the floor - really a disappointing experience. No reason to visit a restaurant where management hides from customers..... I'd have scored this a zero stars but it wont let you post without awarding at least one star..... Don't recommend at all

This is the most racist establishment I’ve ever experienced int life. Not only was I not greeted but I had to get a manager to even be served. One day I came to do a Photoshoot there and I was told to leave even though I literally witnessed them allow photo shoots and video shoots the week before. Common denominator, they weren’t black. On a Thursday night where there’s live entertainment many of my friends came to support and the guests weren’t used to seeing so much color. One of the guests literally pulled my friends hair and said, wow in there pretty tight, as if she was wearing weave. Like the disrespect went from subtle to extreme depending on the hour of the day and what’s worse is that management doesn’t even acknowledge it. They hire “black” employees with suburban accents and “Get Out” vibes if you know what I mean. They’re in a sunken place and don’t even realize it. I wanted to snap a picture in front of one of them just to see if the flash snaps them out of slaveship. There’s nothing nice to say about this restaurant. If you’re not black you’ll have an amazing time. This restaurant is on gentrification steroids and is instrumental in ensuring this is a place where ALL of Detroit is NOT WELCOME.

The parmesan fries I ordered were crispy out & fluffy inside-good portion size. The sandwich was a bit pricey, but good. The other side items were reasonably priced. The menu is very concise, but, has the most popular types of items to choose from: beef, chicken & fish options. The bartenders were very personable, knowledgeable & attentive. Bree was my bartender & she was friendly, professional & accommodating. I will definitely go back & make it a spot to hang out with friends and visitors.

We had a fantastic dining experience the evening of Mother's Day. We all went with the chefs choice menu. We all thought from start to finish that all the food was exceptional. The deconstructed Waldorf salad had so many great flavors and every bite was perfect. We had deviled eggs with lobster and did not leave a bite on the plate. We lucked out and were served the short ribs and the best crunchy fingerling potatoes we have had. I am sorry I forgot to write our waitresses name down but she was very petite with rose colored cat eye glasses and she was knowledgeable and a delight. The atmosphere was an awesome restoration with just the right mix of modern elements. We definitely are looking forward to going back.
