REVIEWS OF Cumin Fresh Indian Kitchen IN Michigan

Terry Pearson

I have eaten here a few times and gotten take-out. The food is great and full of flavor. I would highly recommend this restaurant! Very nice people too. Good portions and good price.

Kristin Crawley

The food is very good for an Indian restaurant in small town Michigan. It was all cooked to order and came out hot. There is an eggplant chat that was to die for. Highly recommend giving it a try. My only criticism is that service was slow to take our order due to chatting with a customer. I overlooked it though because it showed a friendly atmosphere.

pranav bhatt

Very poor service. Not worth for a single star. Served soggy papads and didn't have the courtesy to offer fresh one's. High on ego and low on service..... .. . . A vegetarian just requested you to take care of things. I wonder what was so funny about it. For all the actions we just gave a reaction here. And what about papad..serving them soggy seemed fair enough?!

Joel Russcher

Great food and quick service. Very personable waiter who was great with small kids. Highly recommended!

Daniel Allen

Always good food and friendly service. We always get our food to go so I cannot comment on the dining in experience.

Penka mic

Shoddy behavior and service. Serving soggy papads to customers is okay for them and they didn't even change upon requesting. Too bad attitude. Seems the type of indian restaurant not following atithi devo bhava........ . . . She seemed so familiar with the slogan that she made a face and went away asking the other server to take the order. A vegetarian requesting you to take care of things was a funny point for you , check your cameras and see the grin. And Sir, you too don't seem to follow the slogan as you replied me in the similar manner.

Went to eat here during their lunch buffet and honestly was in love with everything I tried. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely come back. I recommend going during their buffet to try everything that’s available, so you know what to order in the future.

Dave Stew

JimmieLee Danger

Wonderful food, and charming staff.

Mark Wells

Amazing food, great service. Building needs some upkeep, but it was clean. Seemed like most people use it as carryout. Again, good was delicious and very flavorful.

Matt Friar

The service was very good. Tikka Masala was quite good. Spicy is not too spicy so order Indian Hot.

Steve Burkhardt

Tasty.

Kyle Vanderzee

WOW. We got to attend their grand opening preview night, and were blown away by the quality and variety of food. Everything we tried was very good, but the standouts for me were the deep-fried coconut cauliflower, their garlic nan, and the mango smoothies. If you like Indian food, I'm pretty sure you'll LOVE this place. We will definitely be back!

Andy Man

Excellent, tasty and filling. Staff are very friendly and professional.

C. Ande Scherf

Great food. Great service. Naan is some of the best I've ever had

Christine Cruz

Food is always wonderful here! Great lunch if you're in a hurry to get back to the office. Not a place to go if your looking for ambiance......

Jason Putkamer

Service is slow, but worth the wait. The food is amazing.

Anand P.G

Good food and very kind people. All the best

Alexander Scott

$12 all you can eat buffet of delicious Indian food. I actually just came here for the first time and was surprised that I happened to come in on buffet day. The restaurant was cozy, welcoming, and very satisfying. You can't miss it because the smell of aromatic spices wafts out into the parking lot. This restaurant is well deserving of a five-star rating.

Ishara Kharel

Wow never had such delicious food love it

Senaida Guzman

First time was plesantly surprised. Staff were very helpful n courteous.

Kate Post

The food was delightful and very affordable!

Kelly Boelema

The food here was delicious! Since I don’t eat Indian food often, I was a little concerned that it might be too spicy for me. The dish I ordered wasn’t spicy at all, just a lot of great flavor. We will definitely be back.

Amy Gould

Love the food here! They have lots of vegetarian options. Additionally, they can make some dishes Vegan and will do that if you ask. I ordered a vegetarian dish and asked if there was dairy in it. They immediately asked if I wanted it Vegan.

Kyle T-McKey

We have been going here since they opened, and have loved every experience (To-Go). The staff is friendly and the food has always been great. Tell them you want it to be vegan/vegetarian and they can make happen!

Alec H

Amazing food. Back home I spend a decent amount of time at authentic Indian restaurants in Hamtramack, love Indian food, and I can honestly say this is probably the best I've ever had.

Stephanie Elhart

OMG, the food was sooo good. Rich, unique flavors and the right amount of spice. The service was awesome. Very friendly and helpful people. Highly recommend!

Matthew Nixon

Great Indian take out.

Daniel LaBar

Don't be brave -- go medium heat. Awesome food!

Steve Post

The service is kind, attentive, and friendly. And while the atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired, Cumin more than makes up for it with excellent food. Vegetarian and Vegan options are numerous, and there are good apps as well as deserts. Dine in or carry out, you'll find the portion sizes to be good, if not a little light on the rice for my preference. If you are looking for delicious Indian food in West Michigan, there are not many options, but Cumin fills the void well.

Anonymous Review

Not even Indian food. No heat in either of the dishes we ordered. Biryani was not true biryani but instead some cheap rice with food coloring pastes. Naan was subpar. Restaurant itself was freezing cold in the middle of winter with no heat on. Service was slow. Do not waste your time or money!

Rob Montroy

Comprehensive menu, and everything I've had from it is delicious. We usually get takeout, but the staff is very friendly. It's slightly on the pricey side, but it's really nice to have a good Indian restaurant that's local.

Hari Basnet

I love this place butter chicken so good.lamb madras excellent.i will back.

aravind alluri

Food was okay. Very less choice of items in the buffet. Could have been better for that price.

prem grg

I never expected small town like Grand haven has amazing indian foods ,indeed it was there.

Ashley Fojtik

Cumin is wonderful, my favourite curry joint in west Michigan. They have delicious food and super friendly service. It's a great place for takeout but also nice enough in my opinion to take a date. Their hours are unique so check their website and sometimes they're only serving an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet but their buffet is delicious too.

Alysha Moon

Best chicken I have ever eaten in my entire life. The Naan is also amazing!

Tina Ramones

My Thursday BLISS group went for dinner and had a great dinning experience. This was the first time I've dinned here and I'm just a newbie in trying Indian cuisine so I asked lots of questions on the ingredients and spices that are used for the various dishes. All my questions were patiently answered either by the waitstaff or the chef himself. Each of our group had a different entree so there was a lot of sharing. The food was flavorful and delicious! I hope this restaurant is a success in Grand Haven and I look forward to returning soon.

Matthew Howes

Perfect. Best Indian I have had. The nan is always perfect consistency and great flavor. And I know Tikka Masala is like the most common dish, but theirs is soooo good I never get anything else. This is a must have.

TJ McMullen III

Earning a five star is rare! Cumin Fresh Indian Kitchen absolutely servers fresh flavored Indian dishes. The unique recipes and presentation were brilliant. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. I wish Minneapolis had an Indian restaurant this wonderful. Well done and we look forward to experience your fine food again. Namaste

Bailey Freund

This was the only food that has actually caused me to cry out of reverence for the food. I cannot recommend this place highly enough! The food was INCREDIBLE and the service was great. If you like food, you should try Cumin.

Xavier McClair

The food was pretty good! I went by myself around 9:15 close to closing. The restaurant was a bit empty, but as expected close to close in a small town. The staff was prompt with the service and friendly. I ordered a few appetizers and they were good. I was disappointed they ran out of Samosas/couldn't make them but you know, things happen. I'd come back again.

James V

Great tasting fare, I was impressed and personally, I'm no curry fan.

Hope Kavos

So yummy! Great service! Looking for a unique and delicious place to eat, go here. You won't be disappointed.

Manoj Jesu Rethinam

Great, fresh indian food. One of the best restaurants i ever tried.

Ben Butcher

Fantastic Indian/Nepali fusion! Go for the lunch bufett.

Liesa Swejkoski

Friendly staff. Clean. Tibet-style northern Indian food. Less heat. Very exotic.

Abhi Mahajan

Didn't like the food or the service! On our visit, the samosas were so bland that even the idlis would taste more flavorful. On requesting to change it, the waiter started arguing that they make their samosas bland and there is nothing they can do about it! Again on requesting them to take the samosas back, they didn't. Finally they charged us for the food which we didn't eat anyways! Edit: This is in response to the owner's reply: Dear Owner, Your response clearly cements my point, which is you are too argumentative. Instead of arguing with the customers (even when they are in the middle of eating), please learn to improve your service. Take this review as scope for you to improve. You clearly misunderstood when I wrote " they charged us for the food which we didn't eat anyways!" I was only referring to samosas, not biryani. Don't twist the language for your sake! It's because of the biryani, I gave you 2 starts instead of 1. We ate all because we were really hungry, and we "paid" for it. And please don't lie here about returning the food. If you call taking a single bite as 3/4, then you need to check what 3/4 means! I hope you understand one needs to taste the food first to judge it. Even after requesting you very politely at the restaurant, you came to our table thrice to justify why there is no "salt" in the samosas. Let me reiterate for the other customers: YOUR BIRYANI WAS DECENT BUT YOUR SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE! Also, if your samosa is flavorless/saltless, then you need to mention it on your menu so people expecting a traditional samosa can decide if they want to order it or not! YOU CAN'T SELL WAFFLES AND CALL IT A PIZZA on your menu; and then expect people to understand by themselves(Just an analogy FYI) ! Thank you

Best Indian restaurant in grand haven tikka masala is soooo good service very good friendly staff.

anusha prabha

Briyani and tikka masala was good , nice people . Onion bajji was not up to the mark Will recommend it overall.

Leatha Wood

Food is always excellent! I only get mild tho

Rajinder Singh

Lamb roganjosh is very good.sarvice wondarfull i love cumin i will be back

Karin Starling

Absolutely the best Indian food in West Michigan! Beautifully presented, and fantastically delicious. I've had Indian food in the UK and Canada that was excellent, and Cumin is in my top 3. Recommend to anyone who loves this cuisine!

Rik Belenger

Freshly cooked food to order in a tiny Michigan suburb. Their mainstay seems to be takeout orders, but our appetizers and mains were all very good and delicious. The Mulligatawny soup is something you rarely see outside of England, so is a must try as is their eggplant chat. The paneer tikka masala was also rich and I had it extra spicy , so it was super flavorful. Very friendly and helpful and constant refills of iced water , would highly recommend if you’re not overly concerned with fancy decor and want good, genuine fresh food.

Elizabeth Lee

Was spending a week in Grand Haven and ate here twice. Was looking to order out a vegetarian dinner and thought of this place around 8:30 pm on a Sunday (close at 9). They graciously took my order of daal makhani, roti, and cheese naan and it ended up being ~40 min wait. But, It was well worth it. Got a couple 16 oz containers - daal and rice. Everything was piping hot. Flavor was on point for the daal, one of my favorite vegetarian comfort foods. It was well balanced, no spice/herb overpowering another, and heat was what I asked for - 3 out of 4. Would definitely recommend ordering a la cart versus the buffet. The buffet was not bad. You can request naan. Was happy to see a good variety with some non cream/yogurt based options. The tawa chicken was very moist/tender. Was pleasantly surprised that nothing was too spicy for my 3 year old who panics with any heat. Will definitely be on the dining itinerary when we return next year.

Kate Guarna

Great little place, and you can get a lot of good food for a very reasonable price for dinner. We had samosas, tandoori chicken, and peshwari naan, and they gave us some complimentary black lentils. All were excellent. Although the vibe is informal, the service was very friendly and attentive.

Mitch Dervin

Good food and service.

Jaideep Prasad

Lack of good vegetarian options

Samarpita Lahiri Ghosh

Their standard has deteriorated drastically over the is last year. Cannot says it's great food anymore.

Nick DeWitt

I wouldnt go back for lunch. $12 for a "buffet" with less than 8 options. 3 stars because of the basket of naan.

Bethany H Dubuc

This is the second time I've come here for dinner and I'm still very impressed by the quality of the food, service, and atmosphere.

Julia Stelz

We went to Cumin for lunch, and had the lunch buffet. While a lot of different dishes were offered I was missing a good vegetarian or pescatarian option. However, the buffet was only $12/ per person so it was still a very pleasant experience over all. Moreover, I found the waiters extremely friendly and accommodating

liz wells

Love this place! Good food!

Jacqueline

Delicious! This is a great taste of ethnic Indian food in an otherwise very American tasting town. The staff is very friendly. They make great recommendations, and the prices are reasonable.

Virginia Papilla

Love this place and the food! Had my kids try it too, was a thumbs up.

Daniel Price

The food is great, we hope to make this a regular meal. They offer a good variety of spice levels, not too spicy for kids and spicy enough for the more initiated. The ingredients were noticeable fresh which not only added to the flavor but also a vibrant appearance. Servers were friendly and personal. Prices are a little high but worth it given the great flavors.

Tonya H

Best chicken tikka masala

Mary Hartman

Best Indian food around anywhere! I cook South Indian dishes myself. Better than Grand Rapids Indian restaurants!

Eric Shake

Amazing fresh flavors. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Prices are modest. Every visit is excellent.

Terry Matthews

This was our first time here and my son and I both thought it was AMAZING. Neither of us typically go for Indian food but this was SO good we'll both be bsck. It's in an unassuming spot next to the secretary of state (in a strip mall) but don't let that deter you. I travel often and have enjoyed some of the best restaurants around the world....this place holds its own against anyone!!!

Dale Spier

Great food and service! Staff is also great!

Kristina Ellis

Best Indian food I've ever had. Super friendly service. Very neighborhood restaurant! XXO

rakesh agarwal

Great food, softest naans, tasty dal !! Friendly host and humble behaviour!! Great place!! Should definitely try !!

Aaron Brown

Don't miss this great lunch buffet while you are in Grand Haven! Friendly ownership in quality food make this a must stop. We will be back every time we are in town.

Sarah Dahlman

Good food, but terrible service. Took 30 minutes to get our food with only 2 other tables occupied. Another 10 to get boxes and had to ask 3 times. Another 10 minutes for our bill and had to ask 3 times. No food for kids, so why even bother with high chairs? It's nice to have unique cuisine, but this is definitely a carryout only situation for me now.

Mark S Schroeder

I was first introduced to Indian food in 1972 and ever since then its remained my most liked food in the world. Indian food is made up of an assortment of many spices many of which only come from the East carefully mixed together in the dish being prepared to give it the unique flavoring which sets it apart from every food in the world. Indian food is a true good example of a "Culinary Art Food" which always leaves my digestive system feeling satisfied, full, and relaxed and never stuffed. As I've told many people, I could eat Indian food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and never tire of it and in one period of my life I was able to do so for 3 months. I'm glad to see this friendly Indian Restaurant open only 1 mile from my home. I highly recommend Cumin Fresh Indian Kitchen for those that appreciate Indian food and for new comers that may have never tried it before.

Bob Lintjer

Food was delicious, and different. Had a small salad bar and no fruit to offer. Two types of rice, masala, beef, and three offerings of chicken along with naan slices made up the bulk of the meal. Buffet style for $12. Service was very good.

Julie Vishwakarma

Great food and good service

Luke Sancho

Fantastic food. Been here multiple times with 4-5 people and nobody has ever been disappointed with their food.

Natalie Treat

The staff was incredibly helpful for our group who had almost no experience with Indian food and everything we had was delicious!

Austin Elliott

Best place to eat in Grand Haven!

John North

Excellent food, more Indian than Nepali and friendly service

Sonu A

Chicken biryani was not even close... Kindly remove this item from menu card..

Reid Butler

Food is some of the best Indian food I have had state-side, small buffet that is packed with many good choices. The service is commendable. Best new addition to Grand Haven.

Sara Rathbun

One of our local go-tos, my husband and I enjoy the quality, flavorful food at great prices. My favorite... Baingan Bharta, eggplant but it’s ALL so tasty. Today I also tried the Mulligatawny soup... perfect!

Jessica Ferguson

Absolutely wonderful food, and good portion sizes. They scale spiciness well, so however you like it you should be good. It's a bit on the pricey side (expect around $20 per person) but well worth it as I will be eating the left overs for days.

Kevin Ogg

My wife and I stopped in looking for some vegetarian fare. Cumin did not disappoint... Very good biryani and mango dishes, both served vegetarian style. Spice level was as requested and the flavors were great. The vegetable samosas we had for an appetizer were delicious and the garlic naan was very flavorful. Yum.

Sindia Wolcott

Suktee goes above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your visit at Cumin! Thank you for being so awesome :)

Jacob Veenstra

The food is so good! Their buffet is only 12$ a person and you can get as much as you want! The staff were really nice as well. I hope to come back some day.

Rob Afton

Kind of expensive, but man is it good.

Judith Wismont

Very tasty place to eat. Had peshwari naan for the first time. A lovely naan filled with a paste of almond, pistachio, coconut, cashew and raisin. Could have had it for dessert. Tandoori chicken was moist and spiced a bit differently than others I have had. Very good, tho. Saag paneer was delightful. Clearly, I will come back. :)

Matt Darby

Had the eggplant chat appetizer and chicken tikka masala (and naan bread) and they were all great (and plenty for the 2 of us). Fresh ingredients that were spiced very well with lots of flavor. You should try Indian food if you never have before. Very friendly staff. Grand Haven is getting more and more diverse in their dining options and this is an excellent addition that we're lucky to have here.

Diane G.

Delicious buffet, great personal and gracios staff, small and cozy. New favorite!

Matthew Conrad

Very good hot fresh great service

Alan Beagley

Small, but the food is good.

Sandy Pierce

Food was OK - not fantastic. They charge $12 for the buffet and I don't think it was worth the price.

Abhi Ghosh

As an Indian I can say that we've had the best Indian vegetarian food in the Grand Rapids area.

Laura Baumgras

The food was great! I had the eggplant. There are a few vegan options but ask first- some look vegan by description but are not. Service was good too. The coffee, however, was absolutely terrible; I think it was instant.

Matthew David Ferro

This place is phenomenal. The food is fantastic, and everyone who works there is so nice and friendly. It is truly a great experience.

Cameron Versluis

Fantastic food and very warm and kind staff. Everything we tried was fantastic and prepared with elegance. We will be back!

Darrick Procunier

The service was great. Everyone was very kind. The food is amazing. We had the Curry and Madras.

Ekaterina Savelieva

Love this place! Very friendly staff and amazing dishes.

Rezinka Mangal

Food - fantastic. We had the paneer kadhai, mango chicken, biryani, onion kulcha, naan, tandoori roti. Everything tasted great. They also offered complimentary tea while we were waiting for the food which was good and more than welcome in the cold weather. People - great. I left my cap in the restaurant and we were only visiting. I called them and they mailed it to me!! :) :)

Nicole Cramblit

My all time favorite buffet. The onion bahji, chili chicken, naan, Marsala tea, and mango mousse are just a few of my favorite things--I love it all. If you are looking to try something new or if you love curry/Indian cuisine do not miss out on Cumin!!

Mark Schumaker

Great curry. Great service. Very friendly staff.

Brian Snyder

Excellent food and courteous service. Highly recommended. Great addition to Grand Haven!

Stacy Gittleman

Great food and service. Vast vegetarian selection. We'll be back!

Raphael Rajkumar

Food was great! Friendly customer service.

Bite by Bite

The food was delish! Service was awesome! Atmosphere was inviting. A must try!

marilisa sachteleben

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. We had mulligatawny soup and garlic naan bread, mango lassi, onion pakora and curry. It might seem that the food is overpriced but when you consider the price of a junkie McDonalds Burger it is not. All the fresh spices and vegetables and the beautiful colors make it a real dining treat. Food is made fresh and using these kind of ingredients is not cheap so it is well worth the price. The staff at cCumin is very friendly as well. I always feel relaxed and blissful after eating Indian food

Saurav Shrestha

Place is small but best service and tasty food!

Dave Harding

Great food and very prompt, friendly service. Would definitely visit again.

Preston Frazier

Fantastic tasting food! The staff and service was prompt and very friendly. It feels like the owner takes a lot of pride in the restaurant based on the nice table setting and quality of food. I recommend the chicken biryani. I thought the "Spicey" level of seasoning was not actually that hot.

Adam Le

The presentation and flavor of every dish has been delightful. A little hidden gem in Grand Haven.

Glenda Kilpatrick

Buffet of Indian cuisine, many choices. Friendly staff. Mango pudding dessert is delicious!

Johanna O'Keefe

The quality and uniqueness of this food has remained superb since they openned. A welcome bit of culture and variety! The lunch buffet is a wonderful way to sample Indian cuisine if you are new to these spices. Staff is very friendly and professional!

Siscjke Kennedy

Very good

Toby Rustin

Helpful staff. Delicious food.

Anuj Maloo

Food was good. Tandoori chicken was delicious. However, rice was a little undercooked. Overall, a good place to eat some authentic Indian cuisine food.

Joe Tkaczyk

Best place to eat in the state

Kylie Prymus

Mango Lassi was the only thing good. This is Indian food for people who don't really want to eat Indian food. There were only 2 vegetarian dishes, most Indian buffets are predominately vegetarian. What they had was completely bland. Maybe I got them on a bad day or with a new chef, but I would not go again.

robert glaman

Cool thanks

Laurel Christensen

Decided to try this tonight. Wow! The food was fantastic! We had the chicken mango murg and the spinach paneer. Best Indian I've had in a long time and I've been to India. Would definitely drive from Grand Rapids for this.

raj kumar

Small restaurant, small menu but great taste

kiterose

i had gotten a head ache after eating the shrimp curry. I suggest that you make sure any seafood dish fully cook before eating it. I've had curry before but I guess I was just unlucky this time around. Other than that curry was good, good variety of menu items, good service.

Michaela

The employees have always provided kind service and the food tastes great. I recommend trying the lunch buffet!

RIZA ERBAS

Tasty food but pricey for the amount of food they offer. I would go again only because the area lacks Indian restaurants.

Sean Fitzgerald

Great fresh naan. Limited menu, which is a plus for a small restaurant because it means they specialize usually. Courteous staff, understanding with our young kids, and the food was great. Surprised there were not more patrons, but it was just barely before the dinner rush.

Michael Pilko

Cumin brings the 1st taste of Indian food to Grand Haven, and they don't disappoint. Naan bread is a must add to your dish and the taste and flavor of the curry is outstanding.

Kayla LaBeau

Didnt realize this was a buffet when we went in. Looked over the menu online and thought we would give it a try. We were more than impressed. Everything was amazing! Very friendly staff and delicious food!!

Jared Bishop

I have gone here almost half a dozen times and have zero complaints. I guess I do not having it more often

Hariharan Srinivasan

Food was kind of ok. Suitable for locals. Need to make sure food is cooked well before serving

Alan Dalman

Cumin has a wonderful lunch buffet. Options always change, but there are always plenty of delicious options. I have never been there for dinner however, so I don't know what the menu items are like.

anita szeto

We visited this family owned restaurant while vacationing in Grand Haven. Delicious, flavorful Indian food. We tried the garlic and chilli naan, curry beef, butter chicken, paneer Tikka masala, mango chicken, chicken briyani and samosas. We enjoyed everything. Definitely recommend this place is you are in town.

Emily Johnston

Nice selection in the buffet. Complimentary masala chai tea. Pleasant surprise to find this on our way up north.

Sonali Shivangekar

Delicious food and each dish have different taste. Lasuni gobi is mind blowing.

Excellent Indian food and great service

David Canada

Excellent food. The samosas and the onion bhaji appetizers were very good. Then we got the aloo gobi, tikka masala, and the makhani paneer. All were so good we couldn't decide which was the best. Great stop. We will be back.

Karen Sanchez

Delicious food and great service

Prudhvi Raju

When we went as a group of 8, denied to join table for our group to sit together. Very rude behaviour. Asked us to leave.. Would not go again..
