Fantastic experience while touring about Cape Cod. Superb atmosphere and hospitality combined with exquisite food. What could be better. We had blue fish blackened with coastal presentation and scallops with Mediterranean presentation and an excellent spinach salad starter and combined with a very nice local '12 Truro red cab franc. Our experience a definite 5!

On the evening we were there, for an early dinner, there was an older crowd probably attracted by the early bird special. The restaurant also had Bistro size portions; 4 oz of fish instead of 8 oz at a lower price. I wanted my fish with lots of vegetables and no starch and the waitress quickly figured out how to do that. The food was really very good.

My husband and I always try to go to Van Rensselaer's Restaurant whenever we go to Cape Cod. The food is great and the staff is great as well. There is a wait some times, but it's worth it.

This is, hands down, our favorite restaurant on the Outer Cape. Wonderfully preoared and presented seafood and plenty of 'land' fare. We are year rounders who enjoy dining out - sampling the many good spots out here. VR's is our sure thing for great food and a friendly welcome. Reservations are a good idea!

A local standout in Wellfleet, this family run establishment has been serving the locals and tourist for decades. While I'm sure they serve a good burger or steak, you are on Cape Cod... You should be eating seafood. They have excellent local oysters and littleneck clams. They also have a deadly little shareable; Lobster Poutine... French Fries, Lobster, Bacon and Clam Chowder. Tuna is spectacular quality, served nice and rare. Well chosen wine list and lots of homemade desserts. Overall, a great place that takes care of the local population and caters to the weekend/ summer crowds.

When i went to this resturant i ordered BBQ ribs that were not spicy what so ever and they were barely sweet. This entree costs 30 dollars. For 30 dollars you should expect quality, however this is not what i recieved. If you go here, i would not recomend getting the BBQ Ribs

Very nice restaraunt on the Cape. Yes, the restaraunt is a little more upscale than most "bathing suit" places on the Cape, but by no means too fancy. Nice shorts and polo kind of place. I don't eat seafood so can't comment on that, but everything else was great. Had a special of green beans with goat cheese, which was awesome. Highly recommend chicken gorgonzola. This is of course provided you don't like seafood, and do like gorgonzola. Drinks were pretty good, wait staff was amazing. Pretty pricey and smaller portions, but your on the Cape, it is what it is. Go for the salad bar, very good.

Peter the owner is very friendly and welcomed us. We hadn't been there in at least a decade. The food was very good. I got the seafood linquini which tasted excellent but for $26 you don't get alot. My husband got the prime rib which also was good - he said it was tough in some places and his knife was dull. Our waitress was very nice but my one pet peave is that waitstaff check back after about a minute after the food is served - that's standard waitstaff protocol. And to me it really doesn't matter how busy your waiter/waitress is - all customers matter. Also the decor needs to be brighter and cheerier - the walls are an ugly grey with a darker grey trim - I know painting is a pain in the neck, but add a lot more nautical decorations to spruce things up.

The food we had was really good. I had the cod early bird special, with a light panko coating. With the included salad bar, which was excellent, I had plenty to eat in spite of the smaller portion. My wife had the salmon and really liked it as well. Decent local craft beer selection. I had chocolate mousse cake for dessert, also excellent. The service was good - attentive without hovering.

We had the most delicious meal Saturday night. Our server, Nancy, went above and beyond; she even lent me her reading glasses when I was struggling. My salmon dish was presented in the simple grill option, cooked to perfection, and delicious with asparagus and mashed potato. A blueberry fusion cocktail with lavender was yummy. Vanilla bean crème brûlée for dessert was creamy with a perfectly executed caramelized top, unlike the commonly found burnt versions I’ve had at other restaurants. We fought over who got the last bite of a chocolate mousse kahlúa cake. Owners Peter and Diane Hall were welcoming and solicitous. We will be back very soon!

I had the striped bass(bigger portion)$32.00, it was great, wife had stuffed shrimp $29.50, she loved it, daughter had chicken tenders $9.00, ate it all. I just wish the portions were bigger, I hate leaving a resteraunt and still being a little hungry especially for the money the food cost, Bill for food was $84.00 before tip and no alcohol, just soda. Not trying to discourage anybody, food was great, well seasoned, and cooked perfect.

The freshest salad bar I've ever seen. I couldn't go to the store and make it myself and be that top notch freshness. The chowder was some of the best I've ever had.. It was a unique flavor.. Good till the last spoon! Prices are, I guess, moderate for these parts.. But the service, food quality, and decent portions made if a great experience for us. The food is competent, but lacks finesse in the preparation and presentation, especially at the high prices they are charging. Unless you're starving or have money to burn, I'd suggest passing this by for more affordable and refined menus nearby.

One of the very few places on the cape to get vegan food, Becky's vegan bowl was nice and warm on a chilly evening, and the walnut pesto was tasty, but overall it seemed a bit bland, and the arugula salad was so plain and uninspired that it went uneaten, fortunately the manager was gracious enough to remove it from our bill. Although I greatly appreciate their effort to have something vegan on the menu in a seafood restaurant, the chef needs to put a little more effort into it.

Oysters on half shell always juicy, plump and probably harvested that day from Wellfleet Bay beds. Very small portions for a lot of money. It said 'casual attire' but it definitely seemed like they were trying to be fancy in there. We felt overdressed. The wait staff was nice. There was a lady walking around who saw that my fiancé needed more water and said she would get it for him but then stopped at the table next to us and talked to them for about half an hour. We noticed a lot of restaurants in the area weren't that great and were charging a TON of money for seafood. I'd rather go to Rockland Maine where you get huge portions with a smile for a fair price...ahhh Maine. The homemade Indian pudding was actually outstanding and so was the grasshopper pie. I wish we just got dessert, lol!

Don't waste your time or money. We were excited that tofu could be substituted for any of the meats (catch of the day price of $20) they offered. We asked for no feta, which came piled high atop the soggy and incorrectly cooked tofu (it seems like if you offer this item you should know how to prepare it). The Noodle bowl was tasty, but the portions were minuscule. When the owner came by for the formality of "how was everything?" we informed him of some of the miscues, and he abruptly walked away mid-sentence. Our server was incredibly nice and considerate and brought the owner's wife (the main reason that this review is not getting a .5) and she really tried her best to rectify the issues. Don't waste your time

My family and I went here for breakfast because we saw it had good reviews. The atmosphere was pleasant and we were seated right away. The menu is extensive and has some interesting items. The waitress kept forgetting to bring over our drinks. We had to ask for water multiple times. The food did not come for over 40 minutes. We were a party of 6 but it was still quite a while for breakfast. My dad's order was wrong and my brother had to ask again for the side of sausage he asked for. I got a side of home fries which were just roasted potatoes with absolutely no seasoning. My mom had a side of fruit which wasn't ripe, even though it's fruit season. I have been coming to the outer Cape area for over 15 years now and would not recommend this as a restaurant to stop at. I'm not sure how other meals are but their breakfast is mediocre. For a family of 6 the bill came out to over 90 dollars. It wasn't expensive but definitely not worth that much money. I have never written a review but the service and quality of food was so bad I felt inclined to warn.

BEST BREAKFAST EXPERIENCE ON THE OUTER CAPE, PERIOD. I can't say enough great things about this place. Food is amazing everytime I go, and in my opinion, consistency is a mark of excellence. The waitstaff is always friendly, and the management always makes you feel like family (the owner's wife walks around keeping your coffee topped off, while you wait for your food). Very relaxed and clean atmosphere, and it's right across from Marconi Beach, so when you're done with breakfast, just grab your beach towel and go! I've had breakfast all over the outer Cape, and this is the cream of the crop!

After a particularly unfriendly phone call to make a reservation at The Wicked Oyster, we were completely turned off. It was wonderful to make the next phone call to this restaurant and speak with Peter. We told him it was our Anniversary and he was so welcoming upon our arrival and said he would give us a complimentary dessert to celebrate. Our waitress Thadia was a great combination of humorous and attentive. The food was excellent, we can't say enough good things about Peter and his kindness and friendly welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed our Anniversary dinner and very much appreciate his generosity. We will be telling all our friends about Peter and his wonderful restaurant! Can't wait to return on our next trip to the Cape in a few weeks.

My family and I travel a lot and as a result, we all developed a taste for great food. This place has that. Can't complain about the service either. Kids had shrimp scampi and seafood linguini. The shrimp wasn't the tiny floppy things you find in some places. They were jumbo sized and cooked perfectly. The lobster my mother had was sweet. The salmon I ordered was a bit dry but acceptable. The sides made up for it though. And now I see why the parking lot was practically full despite it being off season.

We've been coming to Van Rensselaer's for a long time. THE best salad bar we've ever had...anywhere. Clam chowder delicious. One of my favorite entrees is the chef's 3 fish special & today it was salmon, swordfish & scallops. I consider myself a pretty good cook but the seafood I buy in Central NY can't compete with the freshness here on the Cape. 'Van Ren's' is a must stop.

Clams Casino was missing the star ingrediant Calamari was average at best.AND Bleu cheese dressing on "Famous " salad bar was flavorless. The food was exquisite and the service was phenomenal. We had such a nice waitress and she was very understanding about me having celiac disease (a weakness to wheat) and my brother who has autism. There was a small delay with the food being served because they were understaffed, but it was so minute that we didn't even notice, so they gave us three slices of cake and pie on the house and when I mentioned having celiac, our waitress brought out a bowl of gluten free ice cream for me. Overall an amazing experience for tourists and outstanding service.

One of few truly veg-friendly places in the Cape. Awesome servers, although the atmosphere is okay- but service and food is excellent enough that I simply can't justify docking the score. There are some cool items here you'll struggle to find in most restaurants; soymilk, tofu, and for lunch and dinner a full selection of vegan choices. 5 stars well-deserved!
