This place is simply awesome. The manager was so enthusiastic about the food and the culture and the history of Nepal that I felt like we were watching a show! His wife and his niece were also extremely Pleasant and of course the entire restaurant was very nice, it had a lovely atmosphere nice lighting and a variety of seating types. The food was incredible two. I took pictures and I'm going to see if I can post them here now as well. I can see now why so many individuals and also the media have praised this restaurant. I'm a newbie in town and so hadn't had a chance to visit it but boy am I glad I did. You're missing something if you don't try Mr India!

Awesome Indian and Nepalese food for great prices. The lunch buffet is fantastic. The staff is very nice and always accommodating. Parking can be a bit tricky at times, but it's worth it. Tip: the buffet is usually catered to the US palate (read: not spicy). If you want to kick it up, just ask, and they'll help you out.

Great food and great service. Mr. India is definitely one of my favorite places to eat in Newburyport. The food is always fresh, flavorful and well-spiced, and never too salty, which is a complaint I have about many other Indian restaurants. I usually order from the vegetarian options and loved everything I've had. I've also tried several lamb dishes and was pleased with those as well. Portion sizes are just right (often on the large size), and prices are reasonable. It's also a nice and quiet atmosphere, so if you feel like going somewhere where you don't have to shout across the table to have a conversation, Mr. India is perfect. Good option for takeout as well.

It's a place to go if you are a real foodie and the taste is what matters to you. Go...you won't be disappointed. I've had Indian food all over the world...Mr India is in my top five.

Went for the lunch buffet with some coworkers. The food was great; I like the new chef. The new management is also great, very attentive and kind. For the lunch buffet, the price is very reasonable, too. The only (minor) complaint was that the atmosphere could use some background music or something to liven it up.

Excellent food! We order at least once a week. One of the best Indian food restaurants we've found. The food is always prepared fresh and they use whole ingredients. Everything is cooked form scratch and you can really taste the difference. A lot of folks might not be aware if the madisional properties of the spices used in cooking and teas. Anything from turimic with some fresh black pepper can be a powerful antiinflamitory that can help with joints, headaches, etc. The taste of the food is excellent and were happy every week with our order. The restaurant is very good at teaching the many different ways on how Indian food should be eaten, like when to use a spoon rather than a fork, and we learn something new each week. Highly recommended giving Mr India a go! You won't be disappointed!

Super friendly folks... great service... does as much or more take out as sit down service, probably because parking nearby is limited. Good Indian food, but last time we went just with the Himalayan/Nepalese menu, and it was EXCELLENT. Try the chicken chili - it's not a stew sort of thing you might expect, it is more the way the chicken is cooked, and it is delicious. So was everything else, if I could remember what all we had... the chicken is the one thing I go back for! Looking forward to checking out the lunch buffet to try out more good food!

I’ve been coming here since they opened, but after changes in ownership, menu, and kitchen staff the quality of food and service have gone way down. If my most recent experience was a one-off l wouldn’t be writing this review but with every “last chance” given, my disappointment has only grown. How this place still has 4-stars i cannot understand. 1. I was told that my order would be ready for pickup in 45 minutes. When I arrived after 50 minutes they had to go look for my order sheet and then I waited another 25 minutes. They said that they were busy (they weren’t) but one could be forgiven for thinking that didn’t start making my food until I arrived (ignoring all of my requests in their rush) 2. After being handed a small bag supposedly containing my entire large order, I asked no less than three times if all of my food was in there. “Yes, yes, yes” I was told. Guess what? When I got home, I was missing part of my order. 3. Lastly, the food... If the food was great, or even good, then all else could be forgiven, but it was actually terrible. It had no flavor and furthermore I asked for it to be spicy and it wasn’t at all. The Aloo Palak literally tasted like someone had just thrown spinach and potatoes in a pot and called it a day. The coconut naan used to be full of shredded coconut but what I received was more like dried-out pita vaguely smelling of coconut. Due to a similar previous experience, I even stressed in my order to please put lots of coconut in but their assurances were hollow. The pakoras, a missing item I had to drive back for, were like tiny scraps of onion that had been wiped from a cutting board into a deep fryer. Mr India had a great run, but those days are over. Sadly, it’s no longer worth my time or money. (FWIW the other Indian restaurant in town is also sub-par)

Good place for good food! Living in New Hampshire, there aren't a lot of ethnic restaurants around. Mr. India in Newburyport is at a reasonable distance from me and the menu selections are pretty good! The restaurant is also conveniently located (walking distance from municipal parking lot downtown). Hmm.. need to pick up food to go!

I think all the Nepali food there is outstanding and it is hard to find Nepali food in New England. I highly recommend this restaurant. Of course the Indian food is also delicious there, but I particularly love being able to get good Nepali food.

The food was excellent, I had the lentil soup as a starter. My entree was the Royal Mix Chili from the Himalayan menu. It was an excellent choice. The staff was very friendly. My only criticism is that they need a bigger wine selection with suggested pairings. Other than that it was very good. I highly recommend it. I will be going back.

I was craving indian food for long within the seacoast region. Well, i found this place Mr India in newbury port. Indian and himalayan selections are wonderfull. Very tasty, aromatic and fullfilling, cherry on top nice hospitality. I would encourage people to try their food ones and get hooked.

I did take out on Christmas eve day. The bill was $21.35. When I checked my bank statement, I noticed that I was charged $29.35. I took the paperwork over to show Sam. He pointed out that the bill says $21.35 and so that is what was charged. I pointed out that the bank gave him $29.35 from my credit card. Rather than returning the money he told me to talk to the bank. I am now disputing the bill, which is a bit of a hassle. As a repeat customer (I bring my extended family there as well) who previously wrote an excellent review I was surprised that this is how I would be treated. When I ran into Ram a few days later and told him that I would no longer be coming back, he was very apologetic and wanted to make it right. Unfortunately, that was after I had already opened the dispute with the bank. Watch your receipt and be sure to check it against your bank statement...

I have visited this restaurant on a number of occasions, the most recent being shortly prior to closing, having dined in and take-out quite frequently I have to say everything is top notch every time. It is the best Indian that I have found in the area, and I find their staff very friendly and accommodating, whether trying Indian for the first time or seasoned traveler, it is well worth the visit. Lots of food for little cost is also an added plus! (vegetable samosas are to die for!)

Had lunch there today and was pleasantly surprised. The place doesn't look like much but the owner greeted us with a smile and was very welcoming. I had the lunch buffet which was hot and fresh. Loved the chicken Tikki Marsala..forgive my spelling if it's not correct. My water glass was never empty. The owner kept asking us if we needed anything and said that he wanted us to feel as if we were at home if we needed anything just mention it. He even played a little drum for us before the ethnic music came on in the back ground. Even though we had the buffet, he also brought food out from the kitchen..chicken, nan (bread) hot sauce and so on. I was very happy with my visit and will go again when in the neighborhood. If you like Indian food or if you've never had it but wanted to try it, I would recommend this place. It's nice to see the owner take such interest in the customers and willing to do so much to make sure your meal is perfect.

We discovered this gem a few weeks ago. The food is absolutely wonderful...so good, in fact, we've already been back three more times! Extensive menu with traditional Indian dishes plus Himalayan & Nepalese fare. Everything we've tried has been delicious. Cooked perfectly. Full of flavor. The best Indian food we've ever had! I should also add, the people who work at Mr. India take great pride in their restaurant. Everyone working there, including the chef, has come over to make sure we're loving our meal. I love this place!

Excellent service, delicious food. The chicken mango kebab was awesome as were the veggie biryani and katmandu chili chicken. The chicken soup was a lovely surprise with interesting and delicious herbs. Another thing I Ioved is that we asked for very spicy and the heat was perfect. The server was so friendly I felt more like a guest at someones home than someone just trying a restaurant. Great all around.

This was a surprisingly good experience. Since coming back from India a couple months ago I’ve been really disappointed with the food in America. However, this was a really great experience. We had the Mixed saag and royal chilli mix and some daal. All excellent. The staff is super friendly and nice. I will have to make the trip here more often.

Such a special place with very sweet people. Elbi is an amazing and personable host. He makes guests feel like the restaurant is their home! Amazing. The food is incredible. Perfectly sized portions, clearly marked dietary information and accommodations, and very well seasoned food. Reasonable prices. Nothing was too salty. Wait staff is very attentive and receptive to questions. Unlimited rice refills and courtesy papadums, onions, and plum sauce. Overall a very good experience. Best restaurant I've been to all year. Would recommend to anyone looking for a special experience with Indian cuisine.

Mr india serves great Himalayan food in addition to diverse array of aromatic Indian food. Also the Himalayan mono, special dumplings has a mouth watering taste. Royal mix chilli, Tandoori Mix Grill and House Special Chaw Chaw are the best.

Too many short cuts in the kitchen to prepare the dishes quickly. Chunks of meat we're probably prepared earlier, and then reheated and covered in souce to make various dishes rather than marinating and cooking in the souce.

This is my favorite Indian restaurant around. The samosas are perfect. Crispy outside, and a wonderful flavorful inside. A great addition to any meal. Every dish I've had is prepared perfectly. Flavorful, rich, and warm, there's no better meal in the area. I love the Kadai chicken. It's a great mix of chicken and vegetables, served over rice. They also have wonderful vegetarian options that are so good even meat eaters won't miss meat. The staff is friendly and helpful. Mr. India is a can't miss for fine in or take out!

My wife and I along with another couple dine at Mr. India's almost once a month. We have never been disappointed with any of the variety of dishes we share. The generous glass of wine is also a treat that adds to the enjoyment of an evening meal shared with close friends. Yam (Sam) has been our waiter most often and we cannot say enough about his hospitality and Indian charm. Because of our dining experiences at Mr. India, I have been quick to recommend this restaurant to all.

It was very cold like the heat was not on. The service was terrible. Our wine and chai came at the end of the meal. The food was horrible and tasted like it was cooked by an ameteur. The buffet consists of four chicken dishes. I was very disappointed and more.

RECENTLY HAVE EATEN AT MR INDIA THREE TIMED SINCE THE NEW OWNERS ARRIVED. FOOD EXCELLENT, SERVICE SAME. ONE PROBLEM. THERE IS AN CHILD ABOUT 8 OR 9 THAT MUST BE A RELATIVE. MY THREE DINING EXPERIENCES HAS THIS CHILD RUNNING THROUGH THE RESTAURANT NON STOP. NO FAMILY ADULT MEMBER SAYS A WORD. THUMP THUMP THUMP. SORRY BUT WILL NOT RETURN.

We just moved to Newburyport, I travel a lot and have had Indian food here in the US, Germany and London. My husband and I love the food at Mr. India. We like the atmosphere in the restaurant and the service is very personal. We have eaten in with a big group and all of our friends in the group raved about the food, especially compared to other Indian restaurants that they had eaten at before. We also like to get takeout on Friday nights, this is a convenient location with easy parking and I would recommend it to anyone.

This is my favorite Indian restaurant around. The samosas are perfect. Crispy outside, and a wonderful flavorful inside. A great addition to any meal. Every dish I've had is prepared perfectly. Flavorful, rich, and warm, there's no better meal in the area. I love the Kadai chicken. It's a great mix of chicken and vegetables, served over rice. They also have wonderful vegetarian options that are so good even meat eaters won't miss meat. The staff is friendly and helpful. Mr. India is a can't miss for fine in or take out!

Their dinners are awesome. Ram and Sam are very personable. Whether you are dining in or ordering take out, their food is prepared and served with love. Whenever we have guests in town who travel frequently in India, they love the food. Their Nepalese menu is great too!

On our first visit to Mr. India, 2 1/2 years ago, we were totally blown away by the food (since then, we have returned countless times). I can't find the right word to describe just how delicious all of the dishes are (and we have tried many of them). No word seems good enough. I do know that whenever we eat there, it's a euphoric experience. Perhaps it's because the chef/owner, Ganesh, prepares the dishes with love and seems to find great joy in seeing delighted customers. I'm sure he noticed the delight on our faces today. Our meal there today (Chicken Tikka Masala, Vegetable Jalfrazie, Pharsi Bhaji, Samosa Chat, and of course, naan bread) was absolutely delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant!

The owner is friendly and attentive. However the quality of the food is another thing. I've eaten indian food all over the world. This is probably the worst 'indian food' ever. I've had my share of bad food... We ordered butter chicken...which was a pink sloppy watery item doused in sugar with old pieces of chicken thrown in. We also ordered a kulcha naan....which had no taste or flavor....probably reheated. We also ordered a side of rice which was fine. The worst part was the rairta yogurt....how the hell can you mess this up...just take plain yogurt add spices and diced cucumber.....What was served was a white soupy concoction....I think I eaten 3 spoons of this disgusting meal. I was with my two kids and wife and had to stick it out as my kids were starving. $30 wasted for this horrible meal. Owners please use a bottle of pataks curry sauce vs that pink mess you call butter chicken curry and use fresh chicken!!!!...better yet hire a real indian cook.

Honestly, I’m not fond of Indian cuisine in general. Maybe a couple of times a year fulfills my need in this genre. I have to admit I was not expecting much for a lunch buffet. I was quite impressed by the service and the food! It was flavorful and a hint of heat (not big on hot spices) and curry. Wow! Easily one of the best or even the best Indian food I’ve tasted (at least for my taste). The owner was very attentive. Only a few items on the buffet. But they are all delicious. They will prepare other items if you ask. I can’t believe I would say this but I will be going back very soon!

I love this restaurant. I've been to Mr. India many times and the food has consistently been fantastic! I used to love Mr. India before I became vegetarian and I've found that it is one of the few places in Newburyport that has a vegetarian selection that is as good as its meat menu selections. They also have a wide variety of great naan breads!

I love this restaurant. The food, the wonderful host and the atmosphere. Can’t wait to go to see AJ Ouelette play there (yes, there’s music!) Last night we had a party of 14 with people coming and going. Our food was delicious and spiced according to our varying tastes. And to add to my love of this place, when i asked for changes to dishes based on my dietary requirements (I am vegan and have intolerances to coconut, corn, soy and garbanzo beans, making ordering at most restaurants a call ahead ordeal) they graciously, kindly accommodated me with NO FUSS WHATSOEVER!! This is almost unheard of for me so I am amazed and grateful. And the food tasted amazing.

At first the buffet seemed underwhelming, but don't judge a book by its cover. In addition to being delicious it came with a very generous serving of Naan and chicken tandoori (I think) that was just excellent. You get the convenience of a buffet with the freshness of to-order food. Talk about having your cake and eating it. I was worried that this might come at an extra cost, but nope! The bill was very reasonable. I am 100% coming back

The food is consistently good. The staff is always kind and accommodating. The wait however is consistently long. Eat in takes awhile and even pickup is always an hour behind schedule. Plan accordingly.
