The one star is for the chicken. Everything else was an utter failure. Cole slaw not bad and average only. Beans were undercooked. Mac and cheese was recycled days old mush. I couldn’t find the pasta! Pork bbq was stringy lean and dry. Brisket was tough and old. Cornbread crumbled into a pile of dust. The dust was delicious. If your water tastes that bad you should serve it with lemons.

So much potential, but a disappointing experience. The staff were REALLY nice, but after several mistakes it's hard to give more than three stars. We were told to seat ourselves, which was fine, but then we waited around for some attention (there were only two other parties in the restaurant at the time). We had to retrieve our own menus because no one brought us any. Speaking of menus, theirs was confusing (it wasn't clear that some of it was only available for Sunday brunch) and there were multiple misspellings. How hard is it to design a decent menu, especially when it's so limited? I overheard other people with the same complaints. Other screw ups include bringing someone else's food to our table, forgetting to bring one of our items, not bringing napkins or utensils to the table, and skimping on ketchup. We had to ask separately for ketchup and they brought two small cups only half full which didn't go far at all. Asking again only brought another small half-filled cup. What the heck? Why skimp on ketchup? Finally, the food was decent, but not anything worth going back for. My pulled chicken was barely "pulled" and devoid of any flavor. It just had a little BBQ sauce drizzled on top. Isn't pulled meat supposed to be SMOTHERED in sauce? Disappointing all around, except that the staff were really friendly. I bet the place could be really nice if the above is addressed. Nice people, so I wish them luck.

This place is fantastic, the atmosphere is amazing. Staff is super nice and very pleasant. They are right off the main road, parking is decent and even have an outdoor patio. Prices are decent and so is the menu options. But the food is just unbelievably great. They also do live jazz on certain days. A+ all around!

When I went here, the restaurant wasn't crowded so I was able to get a table relatively quickly. The menu was pretty confusing because at my table of four, there were two different versions of the menu. I ordered the large salmon with fries and it took some time to get my food. However, the salmon was delicious and it was [for the most part] worth the wait. My family also enjoyed their meals and the restaurant's atmosphere

I hope they read these reviews. Mine is not to hurt but to help. Anyone who knows food can relate. I would eat here again but some things didnt sit right with me.I had ribs, yams, mac n cheese greens and cornbread. The ribs were not seasoned and the sauce was thin and tasteless. I understand that ppl cant have a lot of salt but u have to make ur sauce taste like something. The yams needed more sugar and some lemon flavor and the greens had too much vinegar. The mac was the best thing, didnt eat the cornbread. All in all the place is beautiful from what I saw, had a real homie feel to it. I would eat there again but they need to tweak a few things with the taste of the food.

Ribs are old tasting and very poor quality compared to when I ate in the food truck. Mac and cheese is ok. Potato salad has way to much stuff in it Spending almost 100 bucks I should have gotten way better food. Very disappointing...drinks are good at least.

The food here is amazing. The barbecue ribs are very tasty and fall right off the bone. I also had the pulled barbecue chicken which was very tasty and they give you a Toasted Bun if you want to put it on that. The wait staff is very friendly and they are very attentive to you. They have two floors which also have entertainment on the second floor on the weekends either live bands and or DJ. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a good barbecue restaurant spot

Great service! The BBQ was tough, tried both Brisket and Ribs and they were very tough. The best of these fall off the bone and melt in your mouth. This did not happen yesterday when I ate there..Very nice people but the BBQ was sub-par..I am sorry.

Let me tell you, your really missing something if you don't checkout what's happening here. Reminds me of a place I used to go in Boston on Mass Ave called Wally's. The bluesy jazz is just great.

The atmosphere was nice the live band was a nice, the singer was outstanding. However, the guy waiter was horrible. I been employed as waitress, so I understand the difficulty of job. But, this waiter was embarrassment to the owner. My friend order frink from menu and he told her they dont have blender in the restaurant. " Interesting" it was listed on alcohol menu. The food we order came from bar selection. The chicken wings were tasty. Smoked and fried) the mac n cheess comes in a good amount per serving sizes. Not the best! but not bad either, the sweet potato fries were delicious. I will return for the live band hopefully the wait staff will improve.

Food was pretty good, Cole slaw was delicious. Now for why they only got one star: A complete and udder failure from ownership, management, and staff. Zero communication, no visible leadership from any form of supervisor or manager. Rude staff, zero interest in the service they provide. I'm in complete shock this restaurant is still open. There 10-15 tables at the most(unsure of bar area) how can they not bring out the correct food? Or get lost after a rush? I'm disgusted, I grew up in a family that worked in all facets of restaurants, to see one treated like that with that poor excuse of service is sad.

Recently had lunch at Morrells and I can only assume we showed up on an "off" day. The server got out drink order wrong...plus extremely delayed. Our meal came out in pieces and The dressing for The salad never arrived. The fried chicken was delicious however the brisket was tough. I was initially hesitant to order the collard greens but then happy I did as they were the best part of my meal. If in the area we may try again but will not seek it out.

Outstanding BBQ! Great prices and a good size menu. Their smoked meats fall off the bone and there cornbread is as good as mom's! Try the Ghost Pepper BBQ sauce if you think you can handle it... it's an inspired recipe! Great bar on the second floor and the people there will treat you like family! Enjoy!

Went to Morrells BBQ, for the first time to attend a book signing and a friend introduced me to the owner and he offered me a sample platter. It was the best food i have tasted. The chicken, Mac and cheese, and sweet potatoes were the best i have ever had and my wife can burn. The beans and ribs were just as good. You need to try this place for yourself. Highly recommended

The food was absolutely delicious! The atmosphere and the art livened up the restaurant and gave it a real southern feel. The restaurant itself was small with an upstairs and a patio. I do not remember seeing a wheelchair entrance nor an elevator, but I also was not paying attention. The service was not great. The staff was not inviting at all and seemed to be frustrated to be working with one another. I would absolutely suggest this place because the food was sooo freakin good, but if good service is important to you do not go here.

Just went there for the first time, sat outside near the smoker. Amazing pulled pork and pulled chicken, the ribs practically fall off the bone, and the cornbread is made in house. Fair prices for great food and atmosphere.

The ribs I ordered was dry and old looking(ate one and left the rest), the yams weren’t sweet and the lemonade was watered down(did not complain because the things some cooks will do do your food).The only thing that was enjoyable was the tossed salad and the cornbread. She got a good tip because my better half knew her and she didn’t cook the food! 2star one for cornbread and one for salad I’m done!

Went for brunch. Stood at doorway for several minutes looking a room with plenty of open tables. We were finally acknowledged. Then another several minutes before being seated. Mind you, the place was NOT busy. We were seated with menus. We sat and waited, waited and sat. Nothing. No water or coffee offered. A party of 6 or 8 came in after us and had their drink orders taken right away. The two of us still waited. As nothing in particular jumped off the menu at us, we decided to just get up and leave. We walked out mostly due to the poor service. Seemed to be well staffed but they were slower than snails. I haven't heard any outstanding raves about the food so I doubt we'll be going back.

Don't get me wrong by the rating, the food is great here, it's the service that needs help (or maybe it's that the staff needs some help). Very friendly so you feel bad giving a bad tip but it's really horrendous. Salad came after the meal, drinks took almost 10 minutes and didn't come together. There was only 3 of us. There was really good music upstairs but some might find it noisy but we enjoyed it. I'll go back again and again, I just wish they'd do something about the service!

I travel for work almost on a daily basis, local and long distance. Been to over 2000 food places to be honest, I can prove it. I’m a very big foodie, and really adventurous. Been to many states and tried many different type of cuisine, I’m also a good cook myself. First time I tried Morrell’s was on Super Bowl over at my uncle’s, I was amazed. Then today I drove almost 45 minutes away from Somerville to try it again.....damnnnnnn, I wasn’t disappointed at all. That sh** was so freaking good still. That’s why I’m planing to take another trip there with my friends so they know what good fried chicken, collar greens, Mac and cheese and bbq is about. Met the owner and he was really friendly. They can expect me to be a regular customer from now on.

This was the most disappointing BBQ I’ve ever had. My family and I went here for what we thought would be a nice dinner. We arrived for our 6pm reservation and the restaurant was empty but we were still told to wait a minute until we were seated. I ordered a drink which I waited for 25 mins to receive only to be told they didn’t have the alcohol required to make the drink I ordered but since I didnt want to wait another 20+ mins for another drink so I told them to forget it. We go to order food and find out that they are out of cornbread and it will be an hour wait for more bread to get done, which is ridiculous because it doesn’t even take that long to bake cornbread. The food arrived fairly quickly but it didn’t take long to realize why! The food was sub-par at best. My brisket tasted like it had been frozen and it was burnt and tough, the candy yams were absolutely terrible! Not sweet at all and cold! The only thing that saved this meal was the Mac and Cheese which was pretty good. My family had the same issues with their meals, collard greens were unseasoned the bbq chicken wings were bland and unseasoned and the ribs were mediocre. The service was ok but our waitress seemed like a space cadet. The manager gave us a discount on the meal but a few things should have been removed entirely. Very disappointing experience! I won’t be back!

My husband and I came here on a Saturday morning. It was quiet, no wait to be seated. The greeter was pleasant. Our waitress seems new as she didn’t seem to know the menu when I asked a question about how it works, she was courteous otherwise. We were seated upstairs, we got to pick between upstairs or downstairs. Meat was delish, cornbread a bit dry and I was given half a teaspoon of cinnamon butter. Their fries is really good! Hubby complained about the cheeseburger being salty, upon investigating, we found that the coating (not sure if its cheese or something else) was burnt and was stuck on the burger that made it salty. Overall, good food. I give it 3 stars because while in the middle of our lunch, a group of young adults came in and seems that they know most of the workers. They were up and lib around the 2nd floor, talking to the waitress, bar tender, cook, and sad to say, waitress was distracted to check in on us. With the salty burger, my husband needed a refill on his drink, but no one checked as they were busy laughing and chatting to the big group that came in. All we got is the bill and was handed an ipad to choose how much tip we should leave.

I’ve worked in a restaurant/bar before and I do have a great deal of patience for workers. My experience here left me speechless. The place was real busy and packed, but only something like 10 tables or so. The food was pretty good so I will give credit and props to the kitchen staff. Aside from them though, complete shock at the lack of professionalism and customer service among the entire remaining staff. Orders messed up, attitudes given when we questioned them, cold food, even had to get up and retrieve our own napkins. At the end, we saw our waiter (whom we had only seen once when he took our order) ask the bus boy (I assume) to come and check on us. I really hate to give a bad review but this really blew my mind.

We had Matt as our server who was great, customer service was great, food was phenomenal, music was great!!!! Definitely going back very soon. Can't wait to experience the live jazz music next time.
