Great soul food... My 2 year old is a picky eater and she loved the boneless fried chicken. Our waitress was great, very patient with us and our 2 and 11 year old daughters. I'd definitely go back. Can't wait to make sandwiches with my left over pulled pork.

In our continuing effort to visit every bbq restaurant within an hour of the Boston area, my girlfriend and I stopped by Mill City while up in the Lowell area in August. While the surrounding area isn't all that great, the interior is well decorated, and our server, Sarice, was very welcoming. We always use a restaurant's brisket platter as the gold standard, and this was by far the worst we have experienced. This "brisket" definitely could have used several more hours in the smoker, though given the large amount of gristle on our pieces, no amount of smoker/oven time would have lead to improvement. In addition, the mac 'n cheese side congealed into a yellow, flavorless mass within 20 minutes. While originally tempted to let this negative review of their food slide, I noticed a discrepancy in my credit card statement at the end of my billing cycle. Though we left Sarice a generous 20% tip ($9 on $45.69), she saw it fit to add on an additional dollar to this amount ($55.69 charged). While certainly a dollar between friends would never be a cause for concern, it is disheartening to see such an otherwise welcoming restaurant engage in such subtle and deceptive billing practices. Lesson learned, and we will not be visiting Mill City BBQ again.

Highly recommended! We came at lunchtime on a Saturday with two children, one of whom was in meltdown mode. The staff were incredibly kind, and immediately brought out some French fries to appease the hangry kiddos. The food was really delicious - and we say this having been to all the best places in KC. Portions were generous and well priced. We are glad to have stumbled upon this little gem.

Amazing staff, amazing food. The pulled pork was delicious - not at all fatty. There is a great assortment of bbq sauces from smoky hot to vinegary/sweet. My fave was the pineapple. The Fried chicken was super crispy on the outside, super juicy on the inside and incredibly flavorful. Baked mac and cheese was heavy on the cheese...perfect. Onion rings are some of the best I've tasted and I was surprised to see them served with sour cream but it works! I could go line item by line item, but you'll see for yourself. I found no fault with anything! The other super bonus? The second we walked in, we were treated like family. The staff couldn't have been any nicer. High energy, great fun. I LOVE this place!

The food was OK. The barbeque sauces were all good and the ribs were not bad, but didn't like the baked beans very much. Cornbread came out late and was just little mini corn muffins...looked store bought. Service was friendly but very slow and there was barely anyone there, so kind of frustrating. Might go back if I'm in the area, but probably not.

I am a southern girl living in Massachusetts, my son took me to this restaurant and when I taste the food I was truly impressed and happy with my meal. This place is my home away from home go to for a great southern meal, drinks, fun and all around great people and staff!

I really want to like this place. They really want to make you feel at home and be comfortable. Food is quite good, but I just don't think this image is going to make it here. Been there twice, once at this location, which I thought would be a great move, and once at the previous location. Both times, they were out of ribs. BBQ place with no ribs. Not good. Service needs to be more on top of things. There was hardly anyone in the place, but the food was painfully slow. I drank my way through three beverages before the food came out. The owner was very friendly and gracious to offer us free beer(which the hostess had said want available due to the liquor license being unavailable) and money off of our bill for the long wait for easily prepared food. This restaurant has a ton of promise, but the waitstaff needs to be trained better, the kitchen needs to be more on top of things, and invest in some silverware! This is not a fast food joint. Oh, and having Fox News on the television offends some of us. I understand that some people like it, but it's offensive to some of us; I would say that that is an important point.

So happy we decided to check this place out instead of going to Smokey Bones. I had the ribs and beef brisket. Holy smokes. Brisket was so juicy and tender with a nice beefy flavor. Ribs fell apart easily and were just super rich in flavor. Then I used their BBQ sauce. WOW, just heightened the experience all around. If you like BBQ, just go. Lowell needed this.

When i walked in i automatically felt a strong friendly and happy presence in the air, filled with friendly and happy people.I ordered ribs and pulled pork with a side of mac n cheese with a "the perfect" drink,which was divine! The rib was so tender it basically fell of the bone.The pulled pork was seasoned to perfection,with a great side of amazing mac n cheese. All in all I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in town. 8.8/10.

We are here from NJ and were here in Lowell, MA for a conference for my daughter and we were looking for a place to grab lunch. I went to my go to Google and Mill City popped up. We went and let me tell you, it was worth it. We were greeted very friendly by the owner and quickly seated by the owner's daughter. The food was great, flavorful, tender and neatly presented. We all got ribs and pulled pork and they were juicy, tender and had a nice smoke flavor. I would recommend Mill City BBQ if you want good food or if you just want a place to chill. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, a good local stop!!! Go check them out you will not be disappointed!!!!

The service was good and the staff was super friendly! I'm from the south and unfortunately, the BBQ did not taste like what I'm used to. The meat had a slight cigarette smoke flavor and I didn't care for any of the sauces. The serving portion was very generous (2 adults and 2 kids split the 2 meat combo meal and didn't finish.) If you are expecting southern style BBQ, this is not the place to get it. But, the service and presentation made it a good place for families.

Relaxed atmosphere great stop to break up the trip from New Hampshire to Cape Cod. Brisket was fantastic, pulled pork was on point and my son said that the wings were the best he has ever had. Great food and awesome service. I had the fried chicken, my wife had brisket and daughter had ribs. All great. The sweet potato fries and macaroni and cheese were see some too. I also got a Ginger Ale which tasted like Ginger beer. Loved that too. Try this place and you will love the food and people. I wish we lived closers.

Food, atmosphere and service were all amazing. Family owned restaurant offering a variety of southern favorites. Full bar, beer on tap as well as other interesting drinks on the menu. Rene and her boys are some of the best people you'll have the pleasure of meeting. They made my kids and I feel so welcome and comfortable. I had a smile from the moment I walked in to the moment I left. They're moving very soon to downtown Lowell. I reccomend you visit them there or their current location on Gorham street in South Lowell. It's great to have something different from the usual food in the area.

Renee and her sons took such great care of us during our first visit to Mill City. My parents and I went for my dads birthday and it was a wonderful experience! We started with the Mac and cheese balls and rib tips- definitely suggest trying for sure. I had the pulled pork sandwich for my meal and it was honestly the best one I’ve ever had. My parents had the beef brisket and the grilled chicken which were both tasty as well. For dessert we got HUGE pieces of red velvet cake and coconut cream cake and each were delicious. The best part was that the staff was so personable. They remembered our names, even hugged us and shared personal stories with us after closing time. My family will most certainly be returning to Mill City BBQ and Brew and you should try it too!!

A shrine to tasty meats! They make several sauces: hot, Carolina gold, house, and sweet pineapple. We liked the hot and house best. We had chicken wings, smoked sausage, and pulled pork. The meat was all very juicy and delicious. Sides were fresh and good. We ended with an excellent coconut cake. Service was quick and really friendly. The dining room was clean and nice. Pr8ces are reasonable. We'll definitely be going back.

Went there on a Saturday night. Sat quickly by friendly waitress and the bartender who was the owner. Got the ribs, pulled pork, fried pickles, macaroni and cheese, and fried chicken. Everything was fantastic. The meat had just the right amount of smoke. The chicken was tasty breast meat with a great breading. And the mac and cheese was gooey, no proceesed cheese food to be found. If you looking for good barbecue in Lowell this is the place. We are BBQ lovers and I've eaten in all the places around in Wilmington, Burlington, Nashua Etc. This is by far the best barbecue in the area

Horrific service from what I believe to be the owner. I ordered lunch for my employees and two of them just wanted apps but the same one. I go to pick up the food and see ones missing when I brought it to her attention she in a raised voice said she packed it herself and just put both orders in one box. So I explain and show there is basically nothing in the box and only one dipping sauce. To which she again raised her voice and said what are you trying to say I did that order myself. Even after explaining it was for to people I got the to bad for you attitude. After realizing there was no communicating with her I decided to just get the food and leave which took 20 min longer than it was supposed to.

The meat was awesome!! Tender, very flavorful and delicious!! The baked beans were very good, different, but we liked them! Mac and cheese was very cheesey but a little rubbery?!? I liked the collard greens, a little salty, but very flavorful.. my wife thought, too much vinegar.. Overall we give an 8.5 out of 10... The owner was great!! Very positive personality!! I used to live in the South, so I was excited to find a BBQ place nearby, but this is nothing compared to Southern BBQ. The ribs were chewy when they should fall off the bone. The Mac and cheese was a greasy lump, and the baked beans tasted like they came from a can. They have good BBQ sauces, but the food comes out with sauce on it. Why?

This place is unassuming when you walk in but the owner is an amazing lady and her crew whip up some of the most delicious fried chicken and bbq I've had. The bbq sauce is a family recipe and I ask to buy it whenever I'm in. Love this place.

The place is cool with good people and good appetizers. I was people thought brisket was good from other reviews, because it it not bbq. It is braised, and our example was quite dry and chewy. The side of collards was very salty as well. Compared at same time against others, it is not as good.

Pulled pork sandwich was really good. I was surprised to see syrup on the sweet potato fries. That was different but I didn't realize it was something I needed. I can't have sweet potato fries without it now. Want to try the chicken and waffles when I go back.

Food was terrible and it was super slow getting to us. Waiter was nice but never filled our drinks up once in our hour plus wait on our food. Owner did comp my meal without being asked to.

Mill City BBQ has been on our list of places to try for a while and I couldn't be more blown away. The family is as sweet as can be and treat you like one of their own from the moment you walk in the door. The food is amazing, beautiful and delicious. I consider myself a pretty harsh critic being from the South and it passes every single task you could want them to pass.

I left with a full belly and completely satisfied. Some of the best BBQ I have ever had... even in comparison to southern BBQ joints. The owner was very friendly. We showed up at 5 right when the food was coming out fresh. From the quality of the food to the homely atmosphere, you could tell he family operating this place does it with their heart and soul. Brisket, collard greens, and baked beans should are a must to try!
