This Restaurant is classified in the category of French restaurant.
Nice looking place, food is okay, atmosphere was elderly. Seriously, at 50s y/o youngest in restaurant by decades. Bit expensive and not very French.
I was looking forward to trying this restaurant after all the positive reviews. The interior was sweet and the staff were good. However, or food was very expensive and not well prepared. We had a breaded duck sausage that tasted like an egg roll. The pork was overcooked and chewy. The steak was fine but rather salty. Pretty disappointed.
Great ambiance, food and great staff
Amazing food and presentation.
My wife and I went here for out 1st and 10th anniversary, and the food was awesome both times. The kitchen demonstrates a dedication to locally sourced ingredients and the plates are beautiful and taste great.
An elegant place with exquisite servings. The place will definately make an impression on your guest. The food was fairly expensive but it was worth it.
Perfect in so many ways. From amazing corn soup to rainbow trout to chocolate torte, Jordan Bailey has taken control of this great restaurant and continued it's promise of great food. It's not farm to fork, that's saying it's trendy and aligned, Lumiere's best quality is it's editing of itself. Fewer elements, all perfectly prepared to enhance one another make a balanced and delicious plate. That's significantly harder to do than the overwrought foams and emulsions Boston chefs are putting on plates. Go, see for yourself.
OVERRATED. WE EXPECTED SOMETHING SPECIAL AND GOT SOMETHING PEDESTRIAN.
Very nice and classy place. I like to take my girlfriend here on special occasions. I usually get the bass because I am a vegetarian. Also their sides, esp the fries, are delicious.
Quite honestly, this could be the best French restaurant we have been to in the Boston area. The soups are transcending...everything is expertly prepared and presented. The scallop dishes are always amazing with such beautifully balanced flavor. Chef Michael Leviton prepares every dish imaginatively and flawlessly with perfect seasoning throughout. Although there are usually three to six choices on the menu for each course one might think that not to be enough. My problem is there are too many choices as each offering is one I want to have. The service is superb without being in your face. Every staff member is extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Wine list is has something for everyone. The dining room is very pleasant, understated and you can hear the person you are dining with. Basically, its pretty close to perfect
My favorite French restaurant in Boston.
Tasty food, good service, good wine menu, decent beer menu. The prices were very reasonable. It's a great option, especially if you don't want to go all the way into Boston. I would definitely go back.
A nice place for a romantic dinner. Very quite place with great service. Please, do know the portions are rather small ... Highly recommend
Outstanding food with deft seasoning and a surprisingly good wine list
Some of the best food my wife and I have ever tasted, anywhere. And we eat out a lot. Chef Michael Leviton is a genious at layering flavors, so you taste rich flavors of meat, vegetables, infused oils, herbs and spices, in a flavor symphony so harmonious it's incredibly delicious. On Sunday-Thursday the Prix Fixe menu provides a more affordable way to taste these amazing flavors. You can pay a lot more at fancy downtown restaurants, but you won't get better food!
We've been coming here for years. Great food, great service.
Incredible food and service

High-end restaurant with a very human staff. Food is ridiculously good, atmosphere is wonderful, it is not like other super high-end restaurants where the wait-staff smother you. It is relaxing just sitting in the restaurant. The wait for the food was very reasonable. This restaurant has the culinary expertise of some restaurants in France, and I have been to 100s of restaurants in France. Overview: Atmosphere: Amazing, relaxing, formal, but not to formal. Staff: Best way to describe them is like finding that really chill and reliable old friend you haven't seen in a while. They are helpful, but not smothering, and you would be surprised how normal conversations with them are. Food: Having been born in France and visiting family there 2 times a year, I can safely say that the food here is just as good, if not better than many restaurants actually in France. Verdict: #1 place on my list for going whenever I have an excuse to eat out.
Well done and original
It's a very good restaurant.
Great restaurant! The food was delicious. Great cocktails and decent wine list. Service was top notch!
Excellent.......
Excellent local 5 star restaurant... a real treat!
Great evening with larger group. Service was great. Food was excellent and fresh with just the right portion sizes. Parking was very convient.
Phenomenal flavors in a cozy setting. The bartender has 20 years experience and makes luxurious drinks. Gourmet fish, steak.
I have dined at this place multiple times, mostly work related dinners, and it has been a great experience each time. The menu is relatively short but each dish is great. Add to that a great selection of various drinks and very nice servers. No wonder it has been one of our regular go to place.
Delicious! limited selection, but everything is good.
A high class restaurant with very good seafood soup, and the Phoenix Rising cocktail was a blessing. Most food of on the menu wasn't to my interests so I didn't try anything else, but my partner enjoyed his scallops.
Modern take on classic french cuisine. Low key, attentive service, ample selection of wines. A fine dining experience.
A West Newton staple. Great food and great service. The prices are extremely reasonable for food that is consistently good.
I love this restaurant!! My wife and I can not rave enough about everything and everyone we've encountered here. We came back for an anniversary dinner and mentioned it to the hostess who greeted us. She smiled and perked upwhich got my wife Super giddy. She and my wife chatted fort a little bit and after seating us and getting our water and bread we were treated to some champagne from the chef. The starters, meal and desserts for the night were phenomenal. Every part of the night was superb. I made the reservations but the people and the food at Lumiere made the night for my wife and I. Will be coming back every year for sure.
Food and service are top notch. We will go back in a heartbeat for date nights!
Probably the best rating I can give for a restaurant week experience. I came here for restaurant week and it was great. They were so accommodating to my vegetarian dining companion, the service was spot on. It was surprising to find such a elegant dining experience in this space. The whole staff is incredibly knowledgeable and professional, superb customer service. The food was well made and I loved my chocolate dessert. It is pretty pricey so not sure I will be back quickly but I would definitely do restaurant week or their weeknight prefixe again.
Always tasty and consistent fine food.
Lumiere is very good. Slow paced, interesting menu, reasonable pricing.
I haven't had such tasty steak frites in a while. Kudos to the chef. Chicken and fish stew were also great. The hostess was very welcoming. The ambience was right as well. DEFINITELY recommend!
Food was very tasty. Staff were friendly and attentive.
What an excellent dining experience! Everything tasted like nothing I've tasted before. Yes, even the roasted chicken tasted so unique! My sincere complements to the chef. The reception and wait staff were also extremely friendly. Kostas seemed to be one of the most expert servers I've ever encountered. No complaints whatsoever!
My husband and I had the chef's tasting dinner with wines. The food was interesting and delicious; the wines were as well. A perfect evening.
This place came highly recommended and we decided to give it a try. We got there rather early at around 5:30 pm and we had the whole place to ourselves. The decor is breathtaking. Minimalistic but yet very elegant. The wait staff is incredibly attentive and always eager to help and make suggestions. The food however, is a different story. And given the good things I have heard about this place, I am willing to place the blame on my palette. That being said the food wasn't anyway close to what we expected it to be. Salad wasn't flavourful. We tried chicken and beef and both of the dishes weren't exactly bursting with flavour. Chicken was downright bland and beef was cooked with a rather overpowering sauce. We were really looking forward to this place but we probably won't go back there.
Food is awesome, and the service is friendly, knowledgeable and fast. Reserved parking for the restaurant is available. Great for that special night out.
I enjoyed the Sangue di Guardia wine.. the chefs are certainly top notch and the customer service was impressive.
Service was superb. The food... divine...
i don't see a talking candle!
The food was amazing and very creative. Delicious!
Lovely ambience, Gracious wait staff, bread is delicious, food was hot and on time! We are all going again soon, what fun!
Food was not that great and there is no table cloth.
Lumiere is exactly the caliber of restaurant you would want to find in Newton. It's upscale but charming and casual. It is pricey, but I don't think it's ever misrepresenting itself either. It is the most refined and low key fine dining experience you could ask for. The food is extremely good. It was a joy to eat everything brought to us. My fiance and I split an appetizer and then each ordered an entree. I had scallops served on a bed of brussel sprouts and bacon with some sort of maple glaze, with creamy butternut squash puree around the edges. It was delicious. My fiance had the salmon and I tried a bit, and while salmon isn't really my thing, I could tell it was excellent. For dessert, we split a panna cotta, with almonds and a prune compote. It was, as you might expect, also delicious. Nothing here was too heavy on the stomach and I could tell the chef knew how to compose a dish with several complex flavor profiles in mind. Service was top notch and very respectful, as well. Wait staff was incredibly professional. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that enjoys and can afford fine dining. It's well worth it.
Three words...Chef's Tasting Menu. Perfection, no matter what the week/season. Not enough words to describe how perfectly paired each course is. TRY IT!!!
Delicious farm to table food
Food and drinks were decent. Our waiter was very nice, can't say good things about customer care otherwise. I called ahead to mention it was my wife's birthday so they could do something special for her for desert, nothing big, something with a candle ... Might as well have been talking to a wall. Very disappointing.
Delicious food and fabulous waitress, Connie. People at the next table were very loud, which detracted from the experience. .
Very good restaurant. We had the tasting menu, 6 courses, all very good. Parking can be difficult.
Too expensive for typical food. Average atmosphere, but good service. Many better choices
We recently moved to the area and decided to pop in on a whim last night. The oysters we're prepared perfectly and both the Beet as well as the Sole dish was amazing. In our opinion Lumiere is a Two Star Michelin restaurant worth the detour. Be sure to grab a reservation early, as it is an intimate setting.
Great customer service, great knowledge of the menu selections, and outstanding recommendations on peer on my wine.
Excellent, classy place.
Everything was perfect until there were 2 tables left. It was an elegant, quite atmosphere. The food was delicious and our waitress was extremely polite and helpful. I would have stayed and enjoy one more glass of wine if the rest of the waitresses did not turn the place into a playground. They were loud and careless about their surroundings. The place was quieter when there were 10 tables with customers.
Nice atmosphere, food was tasty, but not that interesting
Service was very quick the food was extremely delicious the appetizers were unique and Visually very appealing the desserts were to die for
Hospitable, gracious, unpretentious
Pretty good over all. Food is great, but it takes a while to come out. A tad on the pretentious side. Parking is spotty.
Arrived right before closing, but was welcomed in and received amazing service and an incredible meal. Pricey, but completely worth it for this quality dining experience.
Simple and elegant food done to perfection. They hit every note with this meal. Exceeded expectations and I highly recommend.
Five stars across the board! The ambiance is lovely and quiet. The drinks are generous, the staff is very professional, knowledgable and attentive, and the food is amazing! The large portioned beef tartar was so tasty, the lobster special, haddock and pork chop entrees all incredibly delicious and the pear crisp dessert a perfect ending. We look forward to returning.
The food and service here are both amazing. Definitely go!
Chef's tasting menu was fantastic, however the kitchen got hit with a huge rush when we ordered so we waited a bit for our first course. Everything was worth the wait however!
The wait staff were amazing
A real delight every time!
Delicious, worth the price (most entrees are around $35, small plates around $15), and surprisingly unfussy for a nice night out. Our cocktails were a real highlight. Pictured is the whole roasted fish and the pork milanese. The tartare was different than I've experienced (closer to a pate than a fine dice) but very delicious. The waitstaff are friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive.
Consistently excellent
The Valentine's pri fixe was excellent
High end French Bistro. Ok beer menu. Decent wine list. The food is delicious
Always a fantastic meal and great service. One of my favorites.
So good. Have the lobster
Spectacular dining experience. We did the prix fixe offering, paired with wine, and were blown away. Course after course of thoughtfully prepared cuisine. The staff knows the wine as well as the food and were professional throughout.
Tremendous experience, impeccable service, and top tier cuisine.
