Here you will see all the opinions of people like you who purchase the products and services of Louis Family Restaurant (Restaurant) in the area close to the state of Massachusetts.
Nowadays this business gets a score of 4.3 stars out of 5 and that score was based on 229 reviews.
You must have seen that its rating is really high, and it's based on a very high number of opinions, so we can think that the assessment is very faithful. If there are many people who bothered to give their feddback when they are satisfied with the service, it works.
As you know, we don't usually bother to place opinions when these are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Restaurant is included in the category of Family restaurant.
accepts cash and credit cards. cozy but cluttered. food was your usual diner fare. the oatmeal was good - make sure to ask for toppings, like walnuts. fruit in fruit cup was really fresh and crispy.
Great food at great price.
One of my favorite spots to start an early morning or end a long night in college! Make sure to try their grilled pumpkin muffin; it's to die for. There aren't enough funky little family businesses like this around any more, so let's support this sweet neighborhood diner that has more personality than 100 Denny's restaurants combined.
We love Louis! Have been going there for ever! The food is all homemade and excellent. I am addicted to the banana pancakes. Everything is great!
Old time family run diner. Cheap and filling!
Favorite dinner in the area. Food is really good and affordable. It's a local small mom and pops' shop where you can get just about anything you want at any time. Great spot to end your night out on the town at 5am if you need it.

Food is innovative but simple... enjoyable atmosphere after 12. They do half orders, special orders, etc. The funny thing is the "home fries"... always just a slice of potato, not really fried at all.
Sucks the old guy their prepared food with his bare hands and also collects money at the register. All this time no washing or sanitizing of his hands.
Best breakfast in new England
best late-night food spot in providence, always fun running into friends
Small hole in the wall, but most comfortable. Lot's of food for the dollar, good service, with artsy environment. Nice college town eatery
In a world of fake people and fake restaurants, this is an oasis of realness. Highly recommended.
Louis (LU-eez) is a place you eat at because of what it is and because you want to be there, not because they have amazing food. Louis is open early in the morning and has pretty traditional options, which are all pretty good and pretty fairly priced. If you're a college student in the area, you should definitely do the 5AM Louis run at some point; it's a good experience to have. Walking over there in the crisp morning air, getting a plate of some classic American breakfast food... it's nice, if you ask me. In short, if you live nearby, definitely check it out at some point, and maybe you'll like it a lot and become a regular! If you're just in town for one or two meals, another place might be a better bet.
Drunken Johnny. Great way to start the day.
The breakfast here is very good and there lunch is very great also
Quintessential greasy spoon serving scratch food. Best corned beef hash ever.
Best ham and egg sandwich.
A Rhode Island staple, high ceilings and walls covered with an personal and customer archive of photos and art. Order a plate of their homemade corned beef hash or a pile of vegan pancakes. Never a disappointing meal has been served at Louis Family Restaurant.
One of the Brown University area’s longtime brunch meccas. Excessively hippie decor for some, perhaps, but for most this is all part of the nostalgia. If you go on the weekend during the school year, expect to see some students who have just pulled an all nighter (studying or partying) trying to now recover with coffee and carbs
Excellent food
Good food, cute little spot. Very time we go we notice something different on the walls.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Inexpensive as well.
Great place for a big tasty breakfast at a low price.not a fancy place.. but good!
Sit Down, Order, Shut up & EAT and then get OUT..done!
Ok food (meatballs really good but pasta surprisingly ok - which is strange bc usually it’s the opposite) but the price is really good. Nice atmosphere and staff makes you feel at home without being overly friendly
Good portions. Friendly staff
Love it here!
Cet endroit est l'exemple parfait du "American dinner", la nourriture y est à la fois simple et excellente. Un lieu plein de vie au coeur de la ville de Providence, animé par l'Université de Brown et ses étudiants. Je recommande chaudement ce restaurant.
Nice place. Sure, mostly diner food, not a large selection, not extraordinary or gourmet... but the offerings raise to the expectations a place like this would create. What should thrill you: The people here are SOOO NICE.... seriously, one can tell the business is family-run. And there's that genuinely New-England rough but wholehearted kindness that hits you upon entering when the people talk to you , if that makes sense. And where else do you hear Bach and opera to burger and fries? You tell me. Stop by. Maybe you only get to see the ordinary, but you could just as well have an "esthetically" worthwhile experience.
I love Louis!! Always awesome food.. The Gianfresco family are great people super nice and very kind...
Good food for cheap! what more can I say..
Food was meh (breakfast). Service felt extremely rushed. Staff was very creepy and hovered around. When they weren't rushing people out the door, they would just stand there and watch.
Cool little diner. Food was cheap and came quick and was good but nothing special
Good food, inexpensive, and a place with character. Real character, not the plastic kind. Also a good place to go if you're hungry.
You can't miss this restaurant when visiting Providence! This unique venue offers great food made with love and care! The owners (Johnny and Albert) take the greatest effort into providing this restaurant for years and years! It has this Italian feel to it, the food is home-made and just delicious!
Delicious food, at very reasonable prices, a wide variety of choices for any diet or taste, and wonderful graphics on the front of the building and on all the walls.
Nice Place
Delicious pizza. Calm and good service
Ordered the Drunk Johny corn beef hash omelet with Blueberry Muffin and Loved It! . The syaff was friendly and will definitely be coming back!!
Louis is a part of the cultural fabric of Brown. Open crazy early, you can always get a huge plate of eggs, bacon and pancakes. The walls are covered in old and new photos some make sense, others don't. It's all part of the charm.
Food good, crowd and joint are great.
Knowing I was going to take a little trip to explore Providence, I of course youtubed "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives Providence" ti find candidate eating spots, and this was the one that won my interest best. I tried the BBQ chicken ravioli, which was tasty but nothing to write home about for me. The granola pancake, however, was probably the best pancake I've ever had. If I'm ever back in town, I really want to try their pumpkin pancake! The service is friendly, and the food is great and cheap! Oh and you can also get a t-shirt for $5. Weee!
Like being with family!
The food here was so delicious. The only thing that was strange was the server, he was wandering around and ignoring a lot of us, and was a little creepy. It seemed maybe he had a hang over or was just super depressed. Other than that though, it was great.
Guy ate their and had the bbq chicken ravioli and granola pancakes
Open early, and it has really good pancakes
Great food. Close to Brown UNIVERSITY. Seating area has character!
The perfect classic small family owned dinner, homemade food, no problem with special accomodations, soy or almond milk, vegan and vegitarian options. If its not already made, like a stew or lasagna then they can and will make it the way you would like.
Very good breakfast
Good food, cute little spot. Very time we go we notice something different on the walls.
Great food
Good BBQ chicken today.
Absolutely amazing breakfast food. The breakfast sandwich was divine.
Classic, neighborhood icon, still family-owned, can never go wrong with Louis. The food is always very tasty and with better ingredients than other competing restaurants. Service is also a plus. Price is reasonable, so it won't break the budget. Good for a quick breakfast or a meal out with family.
I've had the pleasure of ordering from here a few times. Though, the food service used to deliver the food was never on par, Louis' helped out to the fullest, even delivering food to us by their own employees! I've recommended this establishment to plenty of people and many of us here at my place of employment love the food. I haven't been in during the weekend for breakfast yet but that will surely change soon. Kudos to all that work here
Tasty diner-style food. Fast, hot, good portion size and great price.
Large breakfast for a low price!
Not fancy but good food!
Friendly staff, lots of tasty food for the price! Our hosts described it as the local 'greasy spoon' and the description fits. Nothing fancy, just good homecooking. They surprised my boys by making their pancakes bunny-shaped and it was a hit! We went early on a Saturday and there were plenty of tables available.
Went in at six am and was the only person there. Three guys run the place and the nastier looking one ( looked like Paulie from Rocky but nastier, black under finger nails and just looked like needed bath.) did the cooking and the money. Found a hair in food , no surprise because "Paulie" had messed up slept in frizzy black hair with no net. Music was terrible classical, but others might like that. Atmosphere was not friendly at all. I really Don't consider myself to be really picky, and rarely write reviews at all but I will never go back to this joint.

It was so bad, I thought I was in an episode of the Twilight Zone. Service: let's say, "fresh zombie" - the skin was not grey so fresh from the grave, but the bloodshot watery eyes and complete lack of emotion fit the zombie profile. Starting with leaving the writing pad on the table to... well, really, an episode of the Twilight Zone is the way to describe it (it was actually borderline scary). Decor: well, there is plenty to look at. Food: Do I start with receiving plates a different times when there was only one other table with customers? Or the dish that SOUNDED wonderful - poached eggs on an english muffin with spinach, tomatoes and cheese... I was picturing this beautiful fresh dish with hollandaise... um, no... frozen spinach barely warm... the processed american cheese on top didn't even melt. And this was the first time in my life I ever put ketchup on home fries. For those of you looking for HOME MADE CORNED BEEF HASH... Just don't come here. They do sell (fresh fruit it says on the menu) blueberry pancakes and they do sell oatmeal for $2.00 bowl or you can get it with fruit for $5.50. I thought it was a bit strange when the table next to us ordered the oatmeal and puts on his own blueberries that he brought with him from home. You don't see that every day in a restaurant. Bizarre - eerie feeling Twilight Zone experience with food that is just not good. By the way, I DON'T recommend wasting your money here.

Louis has been such an integral part of my Brown experience. My family and I have been coming here since I visited Brown as a prospective student at the suggestion of my tour guide. It’s a popular spot for student to go in the midst of an all-nighter as they open at 5am. You can always expect a no-frills, delicious plate of food. The guy at the grill has been there forever and you can tell he put his heart and soul in the place. The specials- especially the Shepard’s Pie- are amazing and if you’re thinking about it, definitely try it. Some of my personal favorite dishes include any flavor of pancake, the drunk Johnny omelette, and the western breakfast sandwich- but everything is amazing. The place itself has got a funky, eclectic vibe to it with art and pictures all over the walls and classical music playing from a now ancient looking little tv. There’s a character at Louis that is unmatched anywhere else on College Hill. If you’re visiting Brown or looking for a new place on the Hill, get your butt to Louis!
What a wonderful restaurant. Old-school diner, very casual setting, surprisingly, they accept credit cards. This is a must-visit for anyone in Providence from out of town.
Great food and service
Great American breakfast place
It's a special kind of place. Old-fashioned. Their emphasis is on good food. The atmosphere is like a diner from the 60's - which can be good or bad, depending on your taste. I myself love it, but some of my friends hate it.
Tasty diner-style food. Fast, hot, good portion size and great price.
A restaurant that seems has always been there. Food quality is normal, although not outstanding. The restaurant has a true vintage atmosphere, with the wall covered by pictures and postcards sent by customers to witness it's been there for a long time. Staff is nice and they offer you all you need. The price is reasonable.
All good allthe time Fresh cornbeef hash & cheesy grits with home made muffins..
Simply the best.
Basic food fast service
If you're looking for a straight-up quality diner, look no further. They don't try to overdo it with options, they just do everything they do really well. I don't know what's up with their coffee, but it's so good that it's the only coffee I've never put sugar in. They are classically cool. They don't try to be cool, they just are without trying. I love that the arts station is always on the TV playing jazz or opera or It's a Wonderful Life in German :-) I also love that they just bring the food out when it's hot and ready, not when the whole table's order is done, and that it has been the same five people working there every time I come in.
Great price decent food and fast service, very diner-esque
I love this restaurant the food and Prince is great the people their treat me like family I'm very comfortable their I feel like home here
No fuzz.. homely diner
Nice!!! Good music, good bookshelf, nice people, decent food, good coffee, unpretentious atmosphere. Loved it, will be back.
I ate at Louis a couple of times as it's one of the only places I could get a diner style meal *early* in the morning in Providence. It is an interesting and historic place near the Brown campus. It did not disappoint. It is not elegant. It's been there a while and it's eclectic decor is aged and a bit dingy but tells a story worth contemplating if that what you when you eat breakfast.
Awesome local diner, great food, cool ethnic atmosphere, strong community ties! Enjoyed the food, and the community vibe! Just off campus of Brown University.
Always great place
Cute af
Cheap and fast. Good service
Greasy spoon mecca
Pretty good greasy spoon on the east side near Brown. I've only had breakfast here. The portions are generous and the pancakes are really good. They offer pumpkin pancakes year round if you're in to that.
Good breakfast place. Big portions. Not fancy. Kinda fun.
Small. Cheap. Good. Simple. Rarely busy. If you looking for something special, don't come here
Best fish n chips!
Food is delicious!!
Four star "Greasy Spoon". Lots of hidden surprised....baked goods, sandwiches, and fresh food. Nice staff too.
Great diner with good food and atmosphere
Inexpensive. Relaxed atmosphere. Great service. I'll go back.
Great Breakfast , so much food I could finish ,only my eggs and coffee, great Homefries and Italian Toast!!
Luis is more than a restaurant, more than a greasy sponge, it's an institution. Great prices solid food
Funky atmosphere. Good greasy spoon food. Probably the best meal on that side of town.
Great breakfast food. Really nice staff. Inside it is decorated with lots of funky art. Kids ate really well here too. Was a great start to our day on vacation.
That one famous dude ate here. I drink an entire pitcher of mimosa and got drunk
If you go, go when they open at 5:30.
My food was gray... But the waiter was nice and attentive
The Shepherd pie favorable and moist.melted in your mouth each bite.couldn't stop eating it even as full as I was.lol.
Eh not bad but not really great either? Idk good prices left full. Service was nice.
Good food
Sturdy breakfast offerings in a novel decor setting. Good service and strong coffee.
Best place in Providence.
Good breakfast spot however service could be greatly improved
Great comfort food in the middle of too many hip places
Luis is more than a restaurant, more than a greasy sponge, it's an institution. Great prices solid food
My favorite breakfast place in all of PVD. Order the Drunk Johnny.
Really good food. What a diner should be.
Homey breakfast diner with good prices.
Great personalities that cook fabulous food! All scratch cooking. Awesome
Funky atmosphere. Good greasy spoon food. Probably the best meal on that side of town.
Busting and busy, but quick delicious and affordable breakfasts. Wonderful atmosphere!
Food was ok, basic breakfast offerings. Service was a little awkward too. Don't hate or love this place...just kinda falls in the middle.
I was first introduced to Louis through their donations to the non profit I work for, and I finally got to bring my family. We went for lunch and I can honestly say their meatballs are as good as my grandfather made! My partner is a hard person to please at restaurants and he was very impressed. Louis is going to become my go to lunch break place.
Great food at great prices with great portions!!
Great breakfast food. Really nice staff. Inside it is decorated with lots of funky art. Kids ate really well here too. Was a great start to our day on vacation.
A little gold mine eatery. A lot of local people know about this restaurant. Opens 5am till 3pm. This place started in the mid 1940' s by 2 brothers who returned after WW2 still in the family to this day.
Classic dinner loved it
Classic RI breakfast spot. Very small and very crowded but sometimes that can be considered the charm. Food was pretty good as well as the staff. Parking is a little tight, on street and the wait was a little long, however, a fine spot!
Vile unclean hole in the wall. I was afraid to eat the sandwich I purchased for my long drive to NYC. The waitress made it and placed the roll on the counter, as opposed to making it in the kitchen. I must admit that the sandwich was quite good and I did not get sick.
The moment i walked in there it was the worst expeirience ever. The staff just wonder around us and the food was very bland, cold, and didn't really ha e anythig special about it. I came here due to the reason thaf it appeared on DDD but i was sadly mistaken. The granola pancake that appeared pn the show did not look like how it seemed and was very delicate, always falling apart when i tried to take a piece of the pancake. The home fries were disappointing as well. Im used to home fries having a cube shape but these weren't the home fries one would expect, just slices of potatoes with little to no taste. It was also pretty dirty, the staff didn't wear gloves nor did they have hairnets. I ordered a coffee when i was there and the spoon was still greasy from the last dish it was used in. I wouldn't recommend this place at all, a worthy resturant with a similar menu would be Maria's Kitchen in pawtucket. For the 15 years that i've gone there, it has never disappointed me.
overcooked eggs, thin and unimpressive bacon, bland pancakes, soggy homefries.
