Here you will see the opinions of real people who bought the services and products of Blue Ribbon BBQ (Restaurant) in the area close to Massachusetts.
Now the firm has a rating of 4.4 stars out of 5 and that score was based on 491 reviews.
You may have noticed that it reaches an reviews average is good, and it's based on a high number of opinions, so we can think that the evaluation is quite faithful. If there are many people who bothered to leave their review when they've done well with the business, is that it works.
As you know, we don't usually bother to give opinions when these are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Restaurant corresponds to the category of Barbecue restaurant.
Would've been a 5 but they didn't have Mac and cheese and the mash potatoes weren't good
My wife and I did not set out for this restaurant. The initial place we were headed to was closed on Sundays. My wife knows how much I love bbq, so she did some quick maneuvering and we found ourselves at Blue Ribbon bbq. We split the brisket platter and the 1/3 quarter of the rib platter. Everything was very good, nice smoke on all the cuts. The only reason I did not give this place a 5 star is just that I am not a big fan of the bbq sauce they use. The sauce is very vinergary and they take the liberty of putting it on as they serve the plates. I think they should leave this up to the customer to decide if they want sauce or no sauce. They have an array of different sauces to choose from at the condiment station, FYI. I would recommend this place if you are in Newton just ask them to hold the sauce.....
Really good BBQ in Boston. Parking is a pain. Great ribs and chicken. Be prepared for a lot of food. You can smell how good it if from down the block.
Good BBQ. Collard greens and sauces are excellent. Chicken is sometimes dry and the last order of rice and beans had under done rice.
Not a lot of BBQ options around here so we're lucky to have a good one!
Blue ribbon barbeque is a must for Boston. There is no better BBQ around. Their sauce is unparalleled, and mouth watering. There is no bad thing at this place. The food is served fast but cooked slow, and those creamy irresistible mashed potatoes always have ordering double.
Not what it used to be! Details...Cornbread could be much better and Brisket could be leaner.
By far the best smoked BBQ in the Boston's metro area. They have about 5 different house-made BBQ sauces. The hot sauce is amazing and very hot.
Amazing BBQ. They give a lot of food, so come with an empty stomach. The sauces, sides, and may all taste great.
great take out. best sides are the specials
The best BBQ & Ribs north of the Mason-Dixon line! Excellent pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches. All the sandwiches come with sides, including the wonderful black eyed corn and the excellent greens.
Love the brisket and the beans
I do not care for this resturant, but they are definitely doing something right to still be in business.
Menu was huge with lots of variety. Portions we're enough for a decent amount of leftovers. Ribs and brisket we're flavored great. Sauces were awesome too. I tried the Xtra hot with habenero mash. Great heat that wasn't overpowering, still had lots of flavor.
I'm from the coast of North Carolina and am very picky about barbecue. This is the only New England barbecue establishment that I consider great barbecue
Excellent quality, sauces, value, and service. Second time I've been, and I'll come again.
The ribs these days are better than they used to be. Now they are Meaty and tasty, probably could use a little more rub but still not bad. Burnt end burritos used to have more meat in them, unfortunately they have cheapened the sandwich by adding more beans and rice, less meat .
Eh at best. Large portions of mediocrity. Ribs were tough, brisket was descent, baked beans had an overbearing molasses taste, the sauces were nothing special, and the corn bread, my God the corn bread was like eating a brick!
Love the food. Not a terribly long wait when its busy. Stopped getting the brisket because the last few times it was very fatty. No complaints about anything else on the menu.
Blue Ribbon is my favorite local barbecue restaurant. The regular menu is very good, but I like to stop in to check out the daily specials and sides. There's always something yummy on the specials menu. They have a large variety of their barbecue sauces out for sampling when you visit in person. Service is fast, but the lines get long at dinner time and on weekends. The space itself is funky and relaxing, but it's small, which is another reason to try and visit when it's not too busy.
Great brisket
I loved the beef brisket, it was tender and juicy also the food portions are awesome.
After going to Austin TX area for work for 1-2 months, over the past 2 years, that exposed me to "real" Texas Brisket. Having been to Blue Ribbon twice since then I leave disappointed that this isn't Texas Brisket, but rather some imitation. At least tonight's Brisket made a rating of 3 stars. Last time I would give it 1-2 stars when compared with real Texas Brisket. But from the standpoint that this isn't in Texas I get the 4+ star rating, just these people don't know any better. The 4+ star rating I would give for the "local" area only, as yes good Texas Brisket is hard to find around here.
Best BBQ ever. Can't get enough burnt ends!!!
High quality barbecue, quick service.
The food is AWESOME!!! I love eating here on a friday night. It is great comfort food and it makes you good. I recommend the burned ends. You will not find better BBQ!
Great food, get the trio meat platter. You won't be disappointed.
Dem be the best dam ribs this side of the Mississippi
Everything is made fresh. Prices are more than reasonable for quantity given.
Lovely food and personal
Every time we go here, it is as good as the last. I woke up this morning with a fever. BBQ Fever. The only cure is Blue Ribbon BBQ. Always fresh and hot! The potato and cuke salads are always perfectly seasoned! Do yourself a favor and patronize this establishment regularly! Everything is made here, by proud caring people!
For a BBQ joint in Boston/Greater Boston, it's pretty good. More of a takeout location, but there "n" shaped seating area. When it's warm there are two impromptu tables set up outside. We always get the Burnt Ends Sandwiches. We've also had some catering done by them. Good portion sizes.
Good BBQ for the Northeast had the KC burnt ends sandwich which was great I was spoiled living down south for awhile but its def recommend
some of the best barbeque in the north! Lovely staff and incredible food
I booked them for catering a month before a company meeting with 100 employees. The process to set up, order, and process payment was easy and went perfectly. The day of the event comes and we scheduled a 4PM delivery. 4pm comes and goes and no ones there. I call and they say the driver has a 15 minute window to show but they’d contact the driver to get an update. 4:30 comes and no one called me back and no one is there with the food. I call back and they say there was a switch with the driver assignments and they have no idea who the driver assigned to our order is. At this point, I have around 80-100 people staring at me wondering if they’re having dinner. I tell them this and they said they need to wait until they get in touch with the driving manager to figure out what’s going on. I tell them I cannot wait, I need to find an alternative because clearly no ones coming. The woman on the phone then proceeded to yell at me and tell me that she understands but there’s nothing she can do. I call the driving department and the woman said she doesn’t know where the driver is but it’ll be an hour.... meaning no one ever left to deliver our food. I finally give up and tell them to forget it and to refund us the $1500 we paid for the food and delivery. We order dominos who got us 20 pizzas in 35 minutes. Two hours later, Blue Ribbon shows up with our food - in the bed of a pick up truck. He tries to get us to take the food a few times and we have to continue to tell him we don’t want it and we’d like him to leave. Needless to say, they’re unreliable, unprofessional and very rude to their customers.
First time visit for me. Small place mainly for take out but a few seats at a counter for eating in. Lots of menu selection for sandwiches, entree platters and sides. Good prices.
I really do not think there is better BBQ in the Boston area. More than welcome for suggestions but for now I will stick to going here because it is just phenomenal. Only place around here that can actually rival something down south.
BBQ for people who don't know BBQ. Pricey pay-per-rib place with mediocre sauces and sides. I purchased their collard greens and my friends and laughed at how bad they were. I kinda felt bad for them until I started picking through the fatty beef brisket. Horrible. There has to be better BBQ somewhere!
Blue Ribbon BBQ. I have been for so many times and always got good food. The menu is long, so I find it hard to believe there is someone who wont find something to his like here. I found many.
Good BBQ, and I've had smoked Brisket from many places including TX and the southwest.
Really good. The ribs and beans were as good as we have had anywhere. It was also great to bring some burnt ends home.
Great BBQ. I got the pulled pork Burrito. It was fantastic. Lots of tasty BBQ sauces and the extra hot will knock your socks off.
Best brisket and burnt ends around, and that includes Cambridge and Somerville. Wonderful for takeout. You can order ahead on the phone or web. Very limited seating inside. Some outdoor seating in warm weather.
Kansas city burnt ends served with so much fat, and practically no flavor, and Texas brisket are good but not great, lacking any real taste other than smoky. Im a 20+ year Texas native and the Texas brisket misses the mark for sure. Bbq sauces are nothing special. Cheese grits w corn are a great belly bomber comfort food. Portion size of sides are great...Cole slaw huge portion, corn and cheese grits are good size too. Key lime pie is average. Pecan pie is served ice cold so very little flavor. So they microwaved my pecan pie in a plastic container, not cool. They gave me a new one. Pecan pie average at best. No one on the cooking line speaks English so it's somewhat dysfunctional. I even spoke in Spanish and the ladies just pointed the the man at the register. Sweet people of course though. Soft drinks are 12 oz. cans only for $1.75 each. Average place or worse food-wise, flavorless mostly. Probably wouldn't come back if I lived in the area though. Perhaps the Carolina vinegar BBQ is better?
For Massachusetts, this place has it goin' on! Very tasty brisket, pulled pork, and much more. The slaw itself is worth a trip, as are the beans. Highly recommended.
Its a great place and now i am working there
West Newton square. A+ if you like burrito's and barbecue
This is real deal BBQ. Great brisket sandwich and pulled pork. Had the smell of smoke on my hands for the better part of the day after eating the sandwich. Sides were terrific, too. We had mashed potatoes, rice and beans, BBQ beans, and cole slaw. Very generous servings. Seating is limited to stools along a counter, but I'd eat this stuff standing up in the dark. And while I was there on a mid-day Saturday, I saw a fairly steady stream of people coming in to pick up orders they had phoned in, so if you don't want to risk standing, you can take this delectable fare home or to the office. This is well worth a stop if you're in the area, and well worth a trip if you're not.
It seems It's always a hit or miss when you order the brisket sometimes it's great sometimes it's dry
This place is the best
Delicious!
My burnt end sandwich looked more like pulled pork, not much smoke flavor. The dirty rice was bland and undercooked. The corn side was good. I have had much better BBQ in multiple other states in the northeast US. Very surprised this is considered one of the area's best. Okay place if you are really hankering for BBQ but don't go with high expectations. Was expecting much more based on reviews - perhaps there is a consistency problem.
Great BBQ food in a small town place !!!
Delicious bbq. I love their burnt ends with potatoe salad and collard greens.
Amazing ribs, good price!
Best BBQ around. No contest.
Barbeque Chicken was done right. Their menu option is splendid.
Yummy food. Great atmosphere
Very Disappointed with the food
Very generous portions. Carolina pulled pork is delicious. Try the homemade lemonade.
Grabbed a few items here not all great. The burnt ends were very tasty but that's about it. The pulled pork was dry, the corn bread very dry, the beans had a funky taste and the rice was tolerable but didn't taste fresh. We thought we had ordered a squash soup, under soups of the day, but turns out it was just mashed squash, i'm told it was good. After my second cup of sweet tea, not real sweet which is how I personally prefer it, I thought I'd take a half cup to go, but sadly it was already empty. It was 5 in the afternoon and not busy. The smells far exceeded the flavors. Maybe we caught an off day or the people who rate it high haven't had very good bbq from other places.
Little 'hole in the wall ' but good food. Mostly takeout, only a few seats.
Really nice. A lot of meat and reasonable prices. The taste is good as well and the atmosphere was awesome. I really liked it.
Great food.
Good smoke, good char, moist, fall off the bone great pork ribs.
Good food but not worth the poor treatment. My fiance placed a pickup order and the guy on the phone was extremely off putting, rude , and hung up when she was mid order. Upon picking up the order the ogre of a man ( unwashed, sweaty, extremely overweight with unkempt stringy long hair wouldn't even make eye contact with me basically threw my bag of takeout food at me and walked away when I asked if there was sauce included in the bag grumbling some nonsense. The BBQ might be good but this guy should not have a customer service job. Because of this I will never return.
Excellent food, consistent quality and the kids love it
Fantastic whole in the wall. Perfect after a long hike
You can't go wrong with anything on the menu here. The brisket and ribs are phenomenal.
Best bbq with lots of serving. Will go again and again
An absolute great plate of food. I got the ribs which were smokey and tender. If you set foot in the place you immediately smell the smoke of the bbq. Not expensive aswel. Definitely a worthy visit for bbq lovers
Nice selection of pork and chicken. Sliders were great and particularly liked the burnt ends! Delicious smokiness and great sauces. Primarily for take out but they do have a few seats in the window.
Been here a few times and the food is great! Quick service, decent prices, and portions. Not a BBQ expert but really enjoy this place.
Good food, good people, good music. What more could you ask for! At 6:30 I saw people form their late teens to people in their late seventies walk in and enjoy food almost immediately after they ordered it.
When you hear people talk about Blue Ribbon BBQ at a coffee shop an hour and a half away, you know that their food is good. I recommend anything there. Food allergies should be taken special attention too. They have a graph that shows what recipes have gluten, dairy, soy, and other common allergens in their foods. Congratulations on being some of the best in the business!
Great barbeque that's reasonably priced. Try the multiple person meals if you and a few friends are really feeling hungry. I typically go for a pulled chicken or pork sandwich with dirty rice and beans and the potato salad.
Food was delicious. Fast service and fair pricing.
There's two or three places in Boston where you can get real BBQ. This one is arguably the most reliable. They also do catering, about which I know nothing.
Nice local BBQ fare. Great variety and selection with generous portions.
No smoke ring on the brisket or the ribs. Makes me wonder if it was smoked slow and low. The highlight of my meal was the Texas sausage and the bbq sauces. I would go back for the sausage and to try some other items, but I won't get the brisket or ribs again.
friendly, clean, and damn good eatin. Been up here in Mass for 2 years from North Carolina, tastes like bbq back home.
I have heard a lot of people rave about Blue Ribbon, calling it the best bbq in NE. It's pretty good. Sauces and cukes were on point. They also don't skimp on the portions. Brisket was cut a little thick and needed more of a smoke ring. Chicken was good. Surprised that there is no pork in their collards. The veggies were very watery and the cornbread was a bit dry. All in all, an OK spot but compared to BTs this place doesn't hold a candle.
Love the food, fast and competent service!
Foods delicious. Everything i've ever ordered, i've enjoyed. It's not much of a sit down restaurant, more like grab your grub & go. They do have a seating area which is usually full -- but that's how you know the food is good. If you're reading this, try the pulled pork with the sweet bbq sauce, mashed potatoes and those green beans! Trust me!!
I don't have to say much here. Mmmmmmmmmmmm. I have a good friend who visited from Paris and tops on his list was to get Blue Ribbon. Go, get anything, and the friendly folks here will serve it up hot and spicy. You can add your choice of sauce, and pickles, and get a house-made lemonade too.
Great food....highly recommend it.
Always fresh, savory and mouth watering BBQ and southern comfort food. Great sides and great portions.
Great BBQ, true American food.
Quick, cheap and good bbq
Really good BBQ food, great sides. Tons of different dip options. The burnt ends meal was massive and delicious. Clean place only suggestion i would make is a bigger drink selection. No complaints from me.
This is one of our favorite places. Years ago we used them to cater our son's high school graduation (10 years ago), and they're still awesome. They have wonderful mashed potatoes and potato salad. Their specials are very good, too. If they have the lamb sandwich (it's been a long time), just get it. Same with the pulled pork and ham Cuban sandwich-thing. They have that a lot, and it's fantastic. Their golden sauce is my favorite, but they have several to choose from. The burnt ends are irresistible. And it smells amazing when you go in. And you should go soon.
Always get the feedbag on here the prices are reasonable for what you get and I love the Greens!
Keep looking for better barbeque in Boston. Blue Ribbon will be there for you when you're done.
Blue Ribbon is among the best BBQ I’ve had—bar none.
Best bbq around Boston
A gem in West Newton - with a bit of BBQ sauce and two sides of your choice...not pretentious in any way just really good meats done up by people that like to serve them Could eat here 7 days a week
Ordered the pork burrito with a side of baked beans. Burrito was huge and delicious, the beans...not so much. Burned with a heavy char taste. The only high spot to it was that I received an order of peach cobbler in replacement of the beans.
I just have to say that if you need to feed a bunch of people on a small budget or large budget call these guys! They have a deal to fit most budgets and the food is tremendous. They're even better the next day as leftovers for lunch! I've been dealing with for years and it's always A+! THANKS Ashtin for always taking care of me!
Overcooked ribs to the point of no flavor. Not real southern taste at all, unclean and unsanitary workers.
Great BBQ - got some for free a few weeks back and it was so good we had to go order the 6 person meal this weekend. GREAT food. GREAT sides. Great Sauces - I put the spicy bbq on everything.
Always delicious, but tough to park
The best bbq I've had in years. I would dare say it's better than most bbq I've had in the South, and I'm from the south! The brisket is super tender, the pulled pork is great, full of flavor, the sides are all amazing too esp the mashed potatoes and the corn, cornbread. Large portions for very reasonable prices, homemade sweet tea, lemonade, a host of on demand bbq sauces to choose from. The interior is cool and smells just the way it should - like a southern smokehouse! I will be back as much as I can without getting high cholesterol. :/ This place is much better than Sweet Cheeks in Fenway btw.
Awesome bbq. Cool lil spot.
Fantastic sweet BBQ sauce. Make sure to try the pulled BBQ chicken. The potato salad, baked beans, corn bread, and Mac and cheese are the best sides!
Love their ribs, but they’re 260 miles away, so we only get to stop in once a year or so.
I absolutely love this place. The food is consistently great. The pulled BBQ chicken is delicious. There isn't much sauce on it and they have multiple types of BBQ sauce that you can put on it. The mashed potatoes are really tasty too
Legitimately comparable to Texan barbecue. I don't think you're going to be able to find anywhere better in Massachusetts. You can be happy ordering ANYTHING here and I'm not overstating that. I recommend Johnny's combo, because it's basically got everything on it, but you can't go wrong here. Great value for the portions they give you. If you eat a normal amount, it'll cover dinner and lunch if you're into saving half of a sandwich and sides for later.
Ribs are so tender, the chicken so taste. Love all the sides I ordered mashed potato coleslaw potato salad. Corn bread is dry. Fast service. 4 stars and definitely will order again. Highly recommended
The best BBQ!
My favorite BBQ on metro Boston. Never tasted anything I didn't enjoy. Pulled pork is go-to, but burnt ends & brisket also terrific. Sweet, hot, vinegar & mustard sauces available, along w daily specials (savory & dessert). Friendly staff, & welcoming, small dine-in space. Get ur grub on!
Have never had a bad meal. Food is always fresh and tasty. Love the scene, even though it is small inside.
Simply put, best bbq around. Great sauce variety.
Little expensive but great food options available with quick service. I enjoy the pickles very much! The design of the area is fantastic.
This spot is an unusual one for the Boston area- authentic southern style barbeque and fixings. The small seating area makes it wiser to take out, but you will not be disappointed by the variety of food on the menu. The barbeque sauces really make the experience, and are sold in full bottles from customers to take home.
Can't beat the price for the amount of food you get. So yummy
It was delicious a decade ago. Just ok now.
Food is good. Everything else about it is NOT.
Worst food i have ever eaten. Boiled meat covered with sauce! Even the soda did not taste good. The little that we ate feels like a boulder is sitting on my stomach. Worst $50 ever spent
Wanted to like this place. The service was quick and friendly, but the food left much to be desired. Brisket was flavorless and had no smoke ring or bark. Pulled pork also flavorless (thank goodness I added pickles). Sides: No, please. Every side dish we ordered had such strange flavor. I’ll try to describe. Baked beans, maybe burned. Potato salad, unknown but the closest one to being “normal.” Mashed potatoes, pretty sure it had more sour cream than potato (it did seem like real potatoes though). Blacked eyed corn, tasted like they came out of a can and again “no, thank you.” Honestly, couldn’t even finish our plates. We had heard that Blue Ribbon was THEE bbq place of Boston. This.. simply not good. Over priced, tasteless and over-hyped.
It wasn't the worst BBQ I've had, but it was far from the best. There wasn't a lot of smoke in either the brisket or pulled pork. The brisket was on the dry side though still tender. The pork was decent though, as stated, lacking smoke. Their house made sauce was good, not a sweet sauce as labeled. Cornbread was really dry, 2 bites was all I could take. Beans were horrible, very bitter to the point that even adding BBQ sauce wouldn't help at all. They lacked flavor as well. Price was fine for the portion but not the flavor.
Brisket and ribs are the go to proteins. Sides are great - collard greens, dirty rice, mashed potatoes and mac and cheese are delish. Get the cheesy grits when they have it! The portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable, typically under $20. We've also had them cater many of our office events and the food goes quick.
Great food. Fair prices. Convenient for food on the go. I consider the platters to be a large portion; I was able to get two meals out of it. I recommend the BBQ pulled chicken and the burnt ends. Meat was all tender and flavorful. I've had the green beans and collard greens, which were mildly spicy (just the right amount for me since I can't handle too much spice). Better for take-out than dine-in since there's only a wrap-around bar with stool seating for maybe ten or twelve people. Food service is very prompt, and you only have to wait a few minutes while your order is plated. Meals are served on to-go plates, so leftovers can easily be taken with you. Drinks (lemonade, sweet tea, and water) are also self-serve. Would definitely eat here again!
Great food. Always enjoy it.
The food was good, the place needs some update!
This is the best brisket in the state; who cares how long the menu is? Just get the brisket. It’s awesome, and I grew-up in Texas!!! Get some to go, put on your pijamas, and dig in. It’s wondefull and always hits the homesick spot in my soul. Thank You for being here.
Definitely recommend the burrito, <$8 for a lot of food! The BBQ is better than some restaurants in Chicago
Sour potatoes. Old milk. Disgusting.
Fantastic food. I recommend everything including desert.
Blue Ribbon has some really great burnt ends. Their cornbread isn't so good, but it comes free with most plates, so no big deal. Serviceable sides and a great atmosphere make this hole in the wall BBQ a legit contender for best in Boston.
The best in the boat area hands down
Best BBQ I've ever had hands down. I used to go here for lunch all the time when I lived in Newton and now will make the trip just to come here! They have affordable platters if you want a quick meal, or you can order in bulk and bring a bunch home to potentially get fat off of or feed the family!
Service sucked. Ribs not authentic like they used to be. More of a place that used to sell good ribs than a Place that now actually cook and sell ribs.
Simply the best.
Damn good brisket.
Really delicious food, classic BBQ diner, absolutely great Rock and roll. I'll definitely come back!
Excellent barbecue and sides. Huge portions. Mostly take out but some seats if you want to eat there.
Amazing meats, awesome staff, various sauces. Great bbq place.
Good, authentic, reasonably priced BBQ choices.
Great local barbeque!
Tasty food at a good price.
Oh the burnt end burrito is always good and filling... Free refills lemonade and sweet tea... Love their ribs.... Corn bread pudding....yum!!!
Excellent and delicious food..
Bbq brisket burito with their sweet souce to go is great!
Oh, ribs here are awesome!
I guess if you like smoke taste and nothing else this is a good place, however the Beans did not have ANY flavor and neither did the cole slaw, worst BBQ place ever.
Good, the burnt ends are more like pulled pork. Definitely different...good staff.
The grillmasters really know how to grill and fry. They have mashed potatoes which are absolutely delicious
Pretty decent food and good taste and variety for a nice price.
One of the best places around to get quality barbecue.
Reliably excellent, great value. Usually an intriguing set of specials on the chalkboard.
Anytime I'm come to Newton this is my favorite place to eat. Meets and sides very fresh and staff very friendly.
and this is what you call real bbq food! great and fast service
11 years of being a loyal customer. This BBQ is literally perfect. It doesn't even need a long review. I would run out of descriptive words and expressions. Simple is best, just like Blue Ribbon. I am a HUGE supporter of this small franchise and they deserve the best of the best success for having the most perfect BBQ and food options. They are so wonderful...
Authentic BBQ with a very creative menu. Check the blackboard specials!
Brisket was a little dry
MA is not known for BBQ. This place is a good example. The service was okay, but the food....not impressed. Brisket was at least decent, & the portions of food were good. The dirty rice was a major fail as well as the baked beans. The cobbler was a good concept, but poorly executed. I'll stick to to the south for comfort food & seafood up north.
Great food, huge portions
Excellent BBQ served in a funky hole-in-the wall place. Not especially cheap, but worth it. Don't miss the cucumber slices in vinegar.
