This Restaurant belongs to the category of Chinese restaurant.
Good food. Very reasonable prices
Wood was alright. Boot date night atmosphere and wonderful service.
Huge portions, great prices, service was amazing. Best Chinese food we've had in Boston so far!
This place is incredible. Come eat here!! Must get the general Chen's wings!
The fat content in the food was legit but it was missing salt and acid.
So delicious
Excellent updated takes in classic Chinese dishes. The space had been updated to make it's basement spot look as good as it can, but it was very chilly in there. Almost needed to eat with my coat on. Food was delicious.
Mixed bag. The chicken I had was excellent but the meatballs were horrible. I wish we got a third dish as a tie breaker.
Went with a group. If you can, call a week ahead and get family style. You will be so so satisfied.
A great modern take on Chinese. Great food!
Place was great, nice little spot for me and my friends to go. Food was tasty and service was fast. The best part though had to be the music. I was absolutely jamming to 80s songs during my whole meal. I'm so glad I found Shojo on Seated!
Food is delicious!!!! Fair pricing and good service
Not only was the food extremly delicious but also the stuff was super friendly ...a 100percent recommendation for dinner
Good ambience and service, but average food.
A jewelbox of a restaurant with a flexible, exquisite menu well adapted for pescetarians. The Best Little Trout was just that. Accompanied by mixed greens, yummy noodles and fascinating conversation—BLR has new repeat customers❣️
We enjoyed every dish here! The Bone Marrow appetizer was phenomenal. My son and brother both love their entrees. Small-medium portions, but very flavorful and delicious.
Guifei Chicken is the best
Name says it all
Amazing! So good!!!
Great place to have nice dinner. The bone marrow and duck mushu are an absolute must! Don't forget to try some of the cocktails, they have the best names and are really good. Definitely one of our go to places
Loved it! My mom and I are avid foodies, and we absolutely loved it! Every dish was delicious and simple.
The appetizer and the Bolognese were both delicious, but everyone agreed that the seasonal vegetables were extremely salty, and we all woke up with horrible headaches the next day. MSG? Don't know, but won't be coming back.
Food was fantastic and the service was perfect. Order to share because the plates are good and you will want to try everything.
Delightful and creative Asian fusion cuisine in a hip atmosphere
Oh my God, that place is amazing, the food was greeted, the flavor, the services, everything was perfect. Be in there was an amazing coinciden!!!
Food is amazing!! Nice atmosphere as well. I went for dinner with my wife and we shared the oxtail chow fun, pork belly stir fry, and the wings. All were really really good!!
It has been said before but the Bone marrow is not to be missed. Even if you think you don't like the idea of Bone marrow it is worth a try. All the dishes we have had have been significantly above the bar, good depth and range of flavor with creative uses of ingredients you though you knew. I also recommend the house cocktails which are so clever that I hardly miss the days when this little spot was BYOB. Don't let the basement entrance fool you this place is one of best spots in Chinatown.
Meh
Super friendly staff. Amazing food. Totally reasonable prices. A fantastic experience.
Food was delicious, staff was sweet and accommodating, and when they found out we were there for a special occasion, they surprised us with free cheesecake! Great experience will definitely return, loved it!
Amazing atmosphere, very friendly and hip staff.
Wharton Alumni dinner for 10. The staff took great care of us and the food was fantastic. Very cozy on a rainy evening.
Excellent seafood restaurant. Perhaps best Chinese food n Boston.
Great date spot and the food is super yummy.
Just great!
Unique Chinese restaurant. I liked their variations of standard dishes. Short menu offering several of these variations was a nice touch. The portion size was a bit lacking
Fried smelts are my favorite. Great little spot hidden away. Beautiful decor great ambiance
Food was amazing. It's suppose to be sort of like tapas style but they give you huge portions. Definitely worth the price.
Was really great food all around. Loved my eggplant dish and thought all the others I tried were excellent too. Cool ambiance too. Would be a great NYE dinner spot. Super small so tough to get in during busier dinner times.
The space was really cool. The service was great. The food was good.
That honey walnut shrimp, man. Goodness. Super fast and friendly service and good prices and a chill atmosphere. The shojo brand is 2 for 2 in my book. Seek this out.
Great food great atmosphere
(Translated by Google) Everything is excellent! We probably would not return to this stall hidden in a basement without having read an opinion, we are pleasantly surprised by the reception, the quality of food calamari are not greasy, delicious asparagus, wonton lobster a marvel ! In short go there with your eyes closed!
Good but small menu, great staff
Shrimp dish is a must! Really nice setting for dinner. Will definitely be coming back
Great food.
Staff great. Food good..but small portions
味道还可以,但是已经不是中国人在运营了。美式的亚洲菜。
A solid four, great price
Wonderful food. We all had a great meal.
Awesome wontons.
Fast, they try hard to please you.
This is some pretty good food. I’ve eaten here on multiple occasions and have no complaints. Definitely try their lobster Rangoon as well as their seafood fried rice. Healthy portions and good taste
This is my 4th or 5th visit since I first went there several years ago. It is better than ever, with unhurried but attentive servers, a reasonable noise level and the best chinese food I have ever eaten, here or in China. Highly recommend the marrow bones, as good as the best in Paris, and way better than anything I've ever had in the US. Always makes me full and happy.
The special was great as was the rest of the meal. Service was friendly and very quick. The place is small so make a reservation or show up at 5 when it opens.
Tasty and affordable options. It was a good suggestion from one of the guys at the local bottleO
Excellent food and service!
Fantastic fresh food, great service
Consistently one of the better restaurants in Chinatown. One of the few places my grandfather will choose for our family dinners.
Delicious modern Chinese.
Great yuba. Better value than Shojo
Delicious!! ❤️
Who In Their Right Mind Wrote the Reviews that Said Shojo BLR was the Best Chinese in Boston 2018?. The place easily qualifies for my Banned In Boston Review List "Weird," "Horrible, "Delicious." These were the comments of our table and the two neighboring tables around us My mother used to say "You can tell a good Chinese restaurant by whether other Chinsee are eating there." Not one here. The food we were told by the waitress was "Modern Chinese". "Modern Like 5 years ago?" I asked. True it was different than The Best Little Chinese Restaurant it replaced, but worse by a mile. We used to eat a delicious Lobster ginger scallion there, Chicken with Onion there, Lettuce Wraps. Today they offer a weird Bolognese noodle dish with pork and a sour tasting spicy sauce, a horrible bone marrow dish with about two table spoons of eatable food inside a cows shin and the rest fat for $17. and a pretty good cubed chicken with sweet and soy sauce. The service was just ok. The waitress forgot to bring us our dish after the chef rang the bell three times. And my wife had to go out and tell the kitchen to send it. And worst case scenario when the waitress, Hows the food and I said not great," she said "different tastes" and made no attempt to make us happy. That's when I decided to write this review Ps. I liked the decor
Look, it's called Best Little Restaurant for a reason. It is! Go here. Experience great Chinese food for cheap. And for sheeps sake folks, put all the orders in the center of the table and share food with each other!
Exciting little dishes, served family style. The food is definitely contemporary and couragous, but doesn't overdo the slant. Highly recommend the pork meatballs and roasted eggplant!
Awesome food, great staff, cool spot. Both Shojo's are fantastic.
Where do I start? The cocktails were delicious, the service quick and the food... Phenomenal. The bone marrow was the star of the show
Solid spot for dinner in Chinatown. A friend and I got dinner there on a whim on a Friday night, and they were able to seat us immediately (right near the door which slammed shut at a really alarming volume--the manager said they were getting a new hydraulic arm). They say to order a few dishes for the table, so we got a scallion pancake appetizer, shrimp and honey walnut main, and duck main. The scallion pancakes were good, not great. They didn't have much of a taste, and the sauce didn't add to it. The main courses, though, were a different story. Both were big, flavorful dishes. Although they came out at completely different times, the flavors were there. The manager and waiter were both very personable and made the experience that much better. Prices weren't too bad as well--I think we spent around $45 for both of us with no drinks. Great option for food in Chinatown.
Dispite some creative menu items, I was unimpressed by the flavors of the food here.
A quiet relaxing upscale restaurant in chinatown. Only an eight minute walk to the Emerson colonial theater. The shrimp and walnuts, oxtail chow foon and Moo shu duck were all excellent. The plum cocktail was good. Especially nice ambience with good music at a comfortable volume. The staff is very friendly and efficient. I will definitely return and this is something I can't say about most restaurants in the theater district.
Cozy yet lively spot, great food, fast service
This place is really good. Easy to appreciate and friendly staff. Music is modern and atmosphere is very comfortable.
A hidden gem in china town! Romantic atmosphere. Very nice staff. A nice twist to traditional chinese food.
More expensive than some other Chinatown restaurants, but food is tasty. Recommend trying their spicy sauce.
Fantastic flavors and good value for dollar.
This place was awesome. The decor was nice, light level was good. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. My friend is gluten free and they provided us with all the options they had and even offered to change the way an item was cooked to accommodate. Delicious, would recommend
Honestly I ordered quite a few dishes here and thought they all had something off about them. Maybe they are trying to be too cool and appeal to non Chinese people
Best authentic Chinese food in China Town.
Great small plates in a cozy but comfortable atmosphere. Delicious duck and shrimp. Walls are decorated with Mah Jong pics and pieces. Service is very friendly. I'm glad I made reservations, because there were usually a couple of people waiting, and this was on a Wednesday.
Went with a group of 10. The food and drinks were all really good but the service was pretty slow
Gourmet asian food. The food was decent, and the only notable food is the chow fun which the noodle was cooked in its rolled state, and created almost like rice cake texture.
Total revamp - this venerable spot has been taken over by the chic folks at Shojo over on Tyler St. The redesign is cleaner and much more modern, with exposed beam ceiling and a long narrow dining room of small square tables rather than large round ones. Their liquor license is only cordial level so expect beer & wine plus sweetened but creative cocktails. The menu is drastically smaller, and they take reservations which is rare in Chinatown, and each of the dishes we sampled was outstanding. I should reiterate that this is not the typical Chinatown place serving up undifferentiated Americanized versions of 70s era Chinese food bathed in starchy sauces. This is slick, upscale and modern Chinese, with fairly accurate interpretations of regional dishes. Special mention goes out to the cold tofu skin noodles, served with an addictive chili sauce and fried garlic. The Lions Head meatballs are a classic.
A+ food, A+ service, A+ atmosphere. Even a nice candle in the bathroom. Highly recommend.
Wasn't expecting to like the food here so much since it felt a little pretentious but the food was so good. Loved the oxtail chow fun but the pork cutlet was also really good as well!
The food was very good, but the attitude was not. The owner (I presume) committed two faux pas: 1) When he greeted me, he assumed I was the delivery boy. I very sternly told him I came there TO EAT!!!! 2) All the tables had chopsticks laid out (and no forks, which I consider the mark of a good Chinese restaurant). After I sat down, he very quickly brought a fork to my table without even asking.
The food and drinks were great!
Small place with really good food (especially the roasted bone marrow) and interesting cocktails
Delicious food, very attentive and friendly service and relaxed/quiet atmosphere.
Decent, but not amazing, especially considering the price point.
Food was aight yknow the place was aight yknow the vibes yo you already know em I would give this place a good ol schmack outta ten cuz the um food was pretty decent and enjoyable
Surprisingly generous portions—it's really easy to order a lot of delicious fatty stuff and not have room for it all.
Cozy and delicious
没有龙虾了
Awesome flair, great food, fantastic drinks
Good seafood
Super! I didn’t expect this quality and service. Food was healthy and tasty , generous quantity
Amazing foods and cozy atmosphere. But the best thing to me is their wonderful survice and prompt response. I can highly reccomend this restauraunt if you would want to have a nice, quiet and tasty dinner out with your friend or family in chinatown.
Pretty good. Socks not blown off, but service, atmosphere, and food were all above average
Outstanding food with very reasonable prices. The hot pots are excellent!
Menu and the place are both super tiny, food quality is not that good.
Good food and very understanding waitress
The atmosphere of the restaurant is very warm, with friendly staff and good music. The is great and they have an option of family style, which lets you try alot of good food with your friends.... Shrimp and Lion Head meatballs, just do it.
Wings were good and the drinks were great. Very small place but the bathroom was a real downer. It smelled awful and the floors were very sticky.
Delicious food!
Great food and staff service is friendly.
Amazing place for dinner! The bone marrow is definitely a must. We also ordered the oxtail chow fun, Duck Confit Mooshu, and the lamb which were all nicely sized portions. The cocktails were super yummy and so cutely presented. When the bill came out we were shocked at how cheap it was!
Eggplant was really great, moo shoo duck also great. Can't wait to try more.
Came here for the name of Shojo restaurant, which is one of my favorite. Like the food here, which is more traditional than Shojo, and the drink menu is certainly interesting.
Delicious food, fantastic service, and the best dinner music in Chinatown. That is all you need to know.
Probably the best spot in Boston for legit Chinese food. The lettuce wrap with beer, fried squid, fish, and beef stew are always a must! The fried dumplings are huge. You can bring your own fish here and they'll cook it for a price - absolutely delicious. Just a slight premium at like $15. Every time I come back to Boston, I always eat here. Highly recommended.
Excellent food, fun atmosphere!
This place was awesome! Everything we had was great! Service was top notch!
Great cocktail "kits" especially "panda panda panda" w panda sake, elderflower soda, and lychee candies. Delicious roast duck, succulent lionshead pork meatballs, and always craveable stirfried greens and eggplant. Never had a disappointing food order here and have been a few times. It's a semi-hidden gem; the down-from-the sidewalk stairway entrance is lined with colorful mahjong and domino tiles.
AMAZING!!!! Cannot wait to come back. Hazy out waitress was amazing and so knowledgable. We got the oxtail chow fun, pork belly stir fry and roasted bone marrow. We were two people on our anniversary and had the best experience. We made a reservation I would recommend since it's a smaller restaurant.
量大好吃!龙虾新鲜,点的每个菜都满意,店家也很热情
