First of course the food is very good, would like to go back and try other things, samosas were okay..the restuarant is beautiful, lovely decor, very clean, the wait staff very attentive. I guess the only thing is it's very hard to have a conversation..its really loud in there, my sister who has hearing issues and wears hearing aids couldnt hear at all, but even my daughter who doesn't couldnt hear. Parking is good, but they do need to repair the sidewalk going into the restaurant, the concrete is very bad going toward the front door, which was a surprise considering the lovely decor inside.

One of the best dining experiences in a long time - maybe ever. This place is not only delicious, it's run by the warmest and most open-hearted people I can imagine. Last time I was there we were celebrating having our whole family together, which almost never happens. The owner knows my sister and her husband and knew it was a special meal, and they went truly above and beyond for us. Can't wait to go back - been dreaming about the food ever since!

Other restaurants need to take notes from the Royal Taj. They have figured out the formula for success and it looks something like this: Outstanding service + delicious and authentic food + fair prices + a 5-star ambiance... That's it. It would seem like common sense but I have never experienced the combination of all of these qualities in another restaurant. 'Bravo!' to the restaurant's management, the servers, busboys, cooks, and hosts. Watching them work together like a well-oiled machine to deliver a stellar dining experience makes you want to keep coming back for more. Hands down my favorite restaurant in the area.

This place surprised me in such a good way. I am not used to such courtesy from staff. I went here on a first date and they made it very special. While it was crowded the service was quick. The food itself was very well spiced. My date was able to have them tone down spiciness so make sure you ask ic needed. The food was delicious and likely the best Indian food I have tasted.

Really nice fine dining restaurant in MD area. It was packed for a Sunday buffet but you won’t be disappointed with the selection. It seemed a bit too crowded but there was ample staff to serve and manage. Some of the items in the buffet could be warmer and refilled better. It is certainly a bit more expensive than typical Indian joints for what it offers. Overall a great experience and I certainly recommend.

We’re a family of 4 and we walked in, said we’re 4 in a party. A party of 4 walked in right behind us, they said they’re a table of 4. Owner himself told them to wait 15 minutes and told my family no he wouldn’t be able to give us a table. Didn’t even give us a wait time however long it may be. Simply refused to seat us. The service used to be awesome, for sure we love coming here because the food is simply delicious, the service is awesome but when this happens out of nowhere, it’s unacceptable. We just got turned down for no reason. Now I understand if they are taking reservations only right now, but that’s not the case since the family right behind us also didn’t have a reservation. This is unacceptable. I’m sure that’s not how he’s want his family to be treated.

Amazing food and service. My husband and I went for the first time last night for our 14th anniversary and they treated us like royalty. The staff was so attentive and polite and the food and drinks were delicious. This is easily one of my new favorite restaurants and we will definitely be back. Fantastic lunch buffet!!! And I can prove it ... go during lunch. You won’t be able to get in. Wide variety of Indian dishes in their buffet. All taste great. Some meaty and many veggie. All authentic, I believe, as I went this time with a coworker from India. Wait staff is very attentive, filling waters and bringing teas and grabbing empty plates quickly. Really nice place to go. Been for dinner too; not cheap but the food is excellent.

I've visited Royal Taj maybe a dozen times dining in and take out. My experience has been consistently EXTRAORDINARY! The food is absolutely wonderful, the ambiance is a blend of family warmth x Sunday best with white tablecloths, but Jean's are just fine. The customer service is a model all restaurants should follow. It's as welcoming as Cheers...but Indian, and nicer. These guys greet and hug almost everyone who visits. Not exactly cheap. But still affordable and well worth it!! My very highest recommendation!

My experience here was amazing. My friend and I stumbled across this restaurant when we were tired and hungry, but we were also filthy, covered in dirt and sawdust. We hesitated when we walked in the door, ready to back out, but they greeted us and treated us like royalty. We have been loyal customers ever since. Their food is fantastic. Their service is beyond compare. They are a little pricey but absolutely worth every penny. You will not regret eating here.

Probably the best customer service I've ever had at any restaurant. Servers were attentive, friendly and made good suggestions. The food was good, they use real chicken, not processed chicken like a lot of Indian restaurants seem to do these days. The garlic naan was amazing and rice was fantastic. I would go back.

Great establishment! I came for dinner here with my family. Excellent food- I was impressed with how tasty it was. The only thing I would have liked to have seen is slightly larger portions. Decor is impressive and atmosphere is very comfortable. They can accommodate large groups- I noted a party of 22 sitting together for a meal. I look forward to trying their lunch buffet!

Interesting place. The waiter seated us at the fireplace! Real cozy. We got there when doors opened, but it soon filled with hungry people. Waiters were very courteous and one got my tea, which was part of the meal and I didn't know it. Very tasty food. Try it out!!

We're newbies in the Indian cuisine spreads and this is the second Indian restaurant that we've gone to. Royal Taj is impressive for a buffet place. It looks opulent inside with its magnificent crystal chandelier centerpiece. Buffet dining on white linen table covers and napkins certainly elevate the game. Their food line-up is as enticing as can be...imagine the smell of delicious curry tickling your noses the moment you get off your vehicles at the adjacent parking lot! Fully packed during midday on a Saturday, it shortly becomes obvious why people are flocking to this place. The ambiance, the courteous staff, the reasonable prices, and definitely the varied food selection -- everything is just downright wonderful and scrumptious! The customers are so diverse which, in itself, speak more eloquently of Royal Taj's excellent offerings and services. Highly recommended!

What an amazing place. The interior is so beautiful and fancy, yet it has a casual atmosphere. Service was unmatched by any restaurant I've been to in a long time, and the food is comparable to what is my favourite in England, but had yet to find a place as good here in the states. I will definitely be coming back to the Royal Taj. I had the lamb korma, and it was delicious. Lamb was tender and juicy, sauce was just right, and rice was perfectly cooked. We sat at the bar because it was really busy and we didn't have a reservation, and it was a fun experience getting to watch the bartenders mix drinks.

I cannot explain in words the enjoyment my taste spuds had. So mannnnyyyy dishes to try. They had both veg and non-veg A+. We did the buffet yea you need to go and try this place. Very nice setting and plenty to try. The line for buffet could use some work since one side was only lining up and the other side was empty but intended for guest. Don't let that stop you getting some great Indian flavors and a full (food coma) stomach ;)

Royal Taj is always a joy to visit! The menu prices are a touch higher than some might expect but the price is becoming of an establishment with this level of service, food quality, and atmosphere. If you're just interested in sampling, I strongly recommend the lunch buffet, which can be quite busy, so prepare yourself for a potential wait! Dinner however, allows the food and personal service to shine. Fair warning - spicy is spicy. It's certainly a treat to visit, and I strongly urge anyone reading this to treat yourself!

Brought my family here and it was a few of their first time ever trying Indian cuisine and they loved it! Food was delicious. We all felt so cared for by our waiters and staff. After visiting India for a month, I can say this is the most authentic Indian Cuisine I've had!! The restaurant is gorgeous, clean, classy, and just delightful. All employees I saw, were from India! There is plenty of parking, handicapped available too! The restrooms are very clean and there are door men to greet you! All foods are made to order and very fresh! I was so happy to find this Restaurant and will be going back for more!! Most entrees cost close to $21.00 per person. They have fantastic homemade breads for $3.50. The water served is fresh and filtered with no smell of chemicals, which is a plus for me! I highly recommend this Restaurant. When we arrived without making reservations, they asked, we said no, so they lead us to an amazing area to be seated! I was super impressed! Extremely friendly service and the waiters we're on top of all our needs! Thanks for a great time Royal Taj!!!

Royal Taj is an oasis of class situated between an Olive Garden, Bob Evans and a TGI Friday’s. The ambiance is exquisite, the food was very traditional and beautifully plated. The service is what I would have expected for a romantic dinner out - alas I was just walking across the parking lot from the hotel with a book. They understood gluten free and were able to confirm menu items I selected were safe to eat. I was even presented with a glass of dessert wine on the house at the end of my meal. This place is the real deal.

Royal Taj has some of the best Indian food that I've had in the DMV area. It's great that the meat here is halal, though I would confirm just to be sure. The ambiance in the restaurant is amazing, and the food quality matches your surroundings. They have a spectacular array of Indian food from all over, both northern and southern Indian foods. Some notable dishes include the mango lassi, the chicken tikka masala, dosa, and the lamb dish. I would definitely return here again.

What an extensive and appealing buffet! The offerings include salad, rice, chicken, fish, lamb, spinach, tofu, naan, and more in a variety of presentations. Authentic Indian dishes are aromatic and visually attractive. Servers are attentive without being annoying. The decor is interesting and thoughtful. I met a friend for lunch on a Saturday and nearly every table was occupied, yet we did not have to wait, nor did we feel cramped. The buffet line moved relatively quickly. (Everything looked so delicious, diners found themselves pausing in front of every dish.) There is a bar also. It was our first visit, and we are definitely returning.

It is rare to find a place that consistently lives up to your expectations, based on prior good experiences; we have been to Royal Taj about 10 times and it is always as good as, or better than we remembered. The line that forms at the door before they open really says it all. The food is amazing and the staff is friendly and attentive. Two visits ago, the manager hadn't seen us leave and he ran out the door to catch up and thank us for coming; it was a bit surreal. My wife, our local friends and I all highly recommend trying Royal Taj. I especially love their rice pudding!

From the time you walk TO the door to you going out the door when you leave, you will definitely feel royal. I was greeted SO many times when I came for dinner, accommodated for, my water was always filled, and we were given excellent time to enjoy our food. Our food was out pretty quickly, but not too quickly, and the food tasted just like it did growing up. The chairs were SO COMFORTABLE... I'm telling you, there is literally no detail they didn't accommodate for. If that wasn't enough, I had some leftover chicken, and they boxed it for me quickly, gracefully, and they ALREADY HAD EXTRA RICE IN THE BOX FOR THE REST OF MY FOOD.

Our Indian friend recommended this place we started visiting since their previous location. The owner, Mr. Benda is kind, attentative and warm. He is ALWAYS there-this shows how invested he is, and he remembers his guests. The food always tastes great and the service is awesome. The new location looks like a palace. The only thing to point out is that they do charge for very young kids for buffet.

Dont go here if you want bad service and just ok indian cuisine. Its extra ordinary in service and the food is always seasoned to perfection, hot and fresh. The service here has always been the best anywhere. Prepare to be treated by fast, friendly, and full staff. Lunch buffets are a wonderful option for lunch out with coworkers or friends, but evenings offer a quieter more leisurely romantic dinner. Very healthy and tasty food options in either meal. Drinks (and cocktails) are great. While service is fast, you can expect to enjoy a slightly longer meal when you eat here.

Great Indian Food and service. If you want a large Indian buffet that has something for everyone, this is the place to go. I was pleased with everything and the staff watch over your needs appropriately. Highly recommend.

New location is a very large compared to previous one. Nice food as usual. However, portions seems to have shrunk from it's original. Bit pricey for what you get. Nice decor. Decent service.

Enjoyed lunch meeting with the Rocketry team. It was a lunch buffet but they closed off a room for us. We enjoyed the privacy and dedicated staff helping our guests. Wanna come again for sure!

Food was fantastic and the employees work as a team so well that you feel as if you have 5 people serving your table, it was fantastic. I never got thirst thirsty because my water and wine stayed full. Loved that they were even open to creating a dish off the menu for me. Love this place and I now know why they are considered the best Indian restaurant in the DMV.

The food here is excellent. The drinks here are excellent. The service is better than anywhere else I've dined in the area. They moved to the current location a few years ago, and it's a great upgrade. The old place wasn't bad, by any measure, but the new place has an outstanding atmosphere. They parking is pretty good too! There's a lunch buffet every weekday. It's a great buffet, which even includes chai tea. The buffet doesn't continue at dinner, but don't use that as an excuse to stay away: the quality of the food jumps up a notch, and is well worth ordering.

Weekend buffet has decent options but I'd love to see more curries and less fried appetizers. Also when we went for dinner as a group of 4, we ordered 2 apps to share, 5 curries, and some drinks, and the bill with 20% tip was around $350. That is INSANE. I will say the taste and spices are the BEST Indian food we've ever had, but with the price of the curries for the size you get, I'll be sticking to the more economical lunch buffet. That said, the cocktails here are amazing and with the amount of patrons they have, we're confident they won't ever drop the prices. We'll be back!

Quite possibly one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. First of all, the food is great. But the service is where it shines. Everyone in there is ready to get you whatever you need. Once when we went there, one of the waiters accidentally bumped a drink and knocked it over. Not only were we compensated for the drink, we got a personal call the next day checking in and making sure we were still happy with the experience. Top-tier restaurant tucked in the middle if the MD suburbs.

Incredible service and atmosphere with good food, limited option buffet. The service and setting of the place is immaculate. Gold gilded ...well everything. Wait staff are extremely attentive and friendly. The lunch buffet is good, but could benefit from a fish, or lamb option and more greens. I would certainly eat here again.

Royal Taj has been and will continue to be one of the best restaurants in Columbia, MD. Not only because the food is excellent, but because the owner is dedicated to creating the best experience possible. He is the first person you encounter when you arrive and the last person to thank you for coming when you leave, answers the phone himself and walks you to your table. The lunch buffet is fantastic with a wide variety of dishes, and at an even 15 dollars a person for as much as you can eat, it is everything you could ask for and well within budget. Great liquor selection, unique cocktails and excellent scenery. Make sure you arrive slightly early though, because this place is no secret and it WILL fill up.

We went to Royal Taj for our anniversary. I had read some really good reviews. The service was excellent. The appetizer was okay, not something I've tried before and probably won't get again. My entree was excellent- Paneer Chilli. They even treated to something special in celebration of our anniversary. I would definitely recommend a visit there! Oh! And the bartender makes an excellent lemoncello martini!!

You cannot find a better option when it comes to fine Indian cuisine. Every dish is perfectly produced, the bar service rivals all other fine dining establishments, and the staff is attentive to every detail. If you body just a couple times, the owner will probably remember you and any details you shared in the past. An absolute home run in terms of dining and hospitality, and the food keeps step with the service.

Lunch buffet on a Friday was packed, but pleasantly surprised at the staff efficiency and food options. The paneer was by far the best, followed by the two kinds of chicken dishes. The food was really salty, though, and I’m not quite sure the more expensive buffet cost is worth it.
