This Restaurant belongs to the category of Asian restaurant.
In a town where it’s hard to get a good meal for less than $10-12 bucks, Mark’s Kitchen is the exception. Solid food, especially the bi bim bap (get it with the extras like a fried egg) and the grilled cheese (for both you or your kid). Fantastic wait staff and who knows...Mark himself may even bring you to your table!
I've been going to Mark's Kitchen forever. They have great food and a very friendly vibe. They are also very vegetarian friendly. I couldn't recommend this place more!
They have an incredible vegetable fried rice meal. The waiters and waitresses act discriminatory at times. There have been times I've visited and it appears the help is annoyed I came in the store and they have to wait on me. If this establishment is for "whites" only then say that, I won't visit again. I didn't like the differential treatment. Whites are seated immediately and people of color are told to wait and when seated, seated in the rear of the store. I only visit when my sister wants rice. I won't visit alone. Do better Mark's Kitchen. Do better! Racism is slowly fading with race mixing but it's evident.
Great options across the board. I opted for the BBQ Tofu and it was delicious. Flavorful, well plated. I have to come back for spinach tofu cakes. Wallet-friendly too.
Amazing noodles and fresh comfort food.
Been going to Mark’s for ages. I’ve never had anything other than a good meal. The chicken noodle is as good as any, and the vegetarian chile too. Grilled salmon under $15 and moist and tasty. Coffee? Fine. BLT’s? Crispy and flavorful. I good go on but the menu’s extensive enough for a Russian novel. Or one by Anthony Boudain. If he upped the decor, he good double his prices easy.
Good food and service in Takoma Park, Md. Excellent service
The vegetable fried rice is fantastic without the prejudice service. For the last 2 times I visited I witnessed racism at it's best when the host seated me and my girl over an elderly African American woman. I was appalled and instructed the host to seat her first. Racism is alive and well in 2019.
I love the food here. They have a variety of dishes to choose from. They offer Korean and American cuisine. The vegan menu is also generous in items. The food is delicious, inexpensive, and comes in decent portions, enough to take some home for the midnight munchies,or not.
Mainstay of Takoma Park. Nutritious food. Usually crowded but that's a good thing. Reasonable prices.
Interesting restaurant. It has a very large and varied menu. The space is a bit of a whole in the wall and could use a little renovating. The food was good but not the best Korean I've ever had. The staff is excellent though and they really make you feel at home.
Mark's Kitchen embodies Takoma Park and is a part of the community identity. Is a great americana and asian cuisine restraunt. Mark has been such a good leader in the community.
I’m not usually the type of person to give 1 star but I am personally and morally offended by the behavior displayed by this restaurant. I’m a foodie willing to pay the rice of great food but this is something else. So I call in an order for pick up and order two bowls of bimbimbop and a slice of chocolate cake. I asked for my order total a few times and they were very apprehensive about doing so. I insisted in having the total and the total was $21.50. I go in 10 mins later to pick up my order which is now $31.49. This isn’t the first racist incident I have had here I just wasn’t sure until now. Screw this place DC is right there with other lovely establishments.
Good food as always
I haven't lived in Takoma Park for nearly 4 years now and I STILL dream about the udon and kimchi fried rice. I've never found anything even close.
My mom's new favorite restaurant they offer a wide variety of vegan and vegetarian options so we will definitely will be coming back in the future.
Good variety..friendly staff
A tradition! Really good food and fast yet relaxed service
Just had dinner at Mark's for the first time. Friendly family place with good food and value. The seafood and Avacado salad was very good. The portion was small.
Good food, interesting menu. The fresh squeezed juices are great!
Food is very cheap here and more for the money. Well prepared and l keep coming for more.
Omelet was great but much smaller that usual. Overpriced for 2 paper thin Blueberry pancakes. Service was not up to par.
Probably my favorite independently-owned restaurant in Takoma, love love love this place, especially all of their dietary options.
Love this place! The black bean burger is my favorite. They have the best brownie I have ever tasted.
Good food, lot's of vegetarian options, good service and reasonable prices. In the heart of Greater Downtown Takoma Park.
We are new in town and we were excited to try a local breakfast spot. We waited an hour to receive luke-warm food. The flavors were good, but the service was extremely slow (both in serving and in cooking), and that resulted in a mediocre experience. We'd be willing to give them another chance if they hired more help to make the process more efficient.
Local landmark since 1990, this place has american, korean, and american-korean fusion food. Menu is easily labeled to show which options are Vegan, or Gluten-free or could be altered to be Gluten free. Sit yourself right down if there's any space. Wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I recommend either the bulgogi or the chicken avocado club sandwich for omnivores. ALSO, if you hate celery, the coleslaw here is okay for you. Guaranteed no celery in it.
Marks has been a mainstay for Takoma for years. Great place. Come early on the weekends -- it gets crowded. The food is a blend of Korean, American, and lots of veggie options. Try the Turkey Burger -- California Style. It's great.
Food is simple but thoughtful, great home fries. No actual maple syrup but the vegetarian options make this a yummy place to stop. And the food is hearty.
Cozy restaurant with wide variety of food, comfort, healthy, or vegan. Friendly service.
The only thing I've ever had there is the crab cake sandwich. I got that the first time because I hadn't had one lately. I liked them well enough that in a dozen or so visits, I haven't tried anything else. I've had the crab cakes at other …
Ok service, great food
Great service, but food was not that great.
CLEAN..EXCELLENT SERVICE.. GREAT, DELICIOUS FOOD...J.T.
Always awesome
My boyfriend and I were really excited to try this place out but were very disappointed by how bland the food was. I had the bibimbap and it was just tasteless. I've had really great bibimbap in San Francisco and I guess that is what I was expecting. Maybe they don't salt the food on purpose and leave you to add flavor. Idk? We won't go back for lunch or dinner but maybe breakfast is better? Check out Evolve Vegan for great tasting food! I haven't been to SoeulFood (which is down the street). Can't wait to try their bibimbap
We love visiting Mark's Kitchen for breakfast and lunch. They have wonderfully delicious offerings. I love the Egg and Avocado sandwich for breakfast, and their pancakes as well. They also make a great cheeseburger for lunch and tasty shakes. We love taking our friends and family here when they come to visit.
The Takoma Park establishment diner. Everything is tasty and the prices are affordable. Great for vegans.
This is small place right in the junction and the fold was very good. You don’t expect when u walk in but the food was tasty.y friend has the Korean potato pan cakes and Korean style chicken wings. The pan cake was light and delicious. They frappes are a must try. I had the blue berry mango. The sugar was perfect and I loved it.
One of the longest continuously run restaurants in Takoma Park, Mark's Kitchen is a small diner with a large menu, everything from vegan to Korean, fish and standard American fare... prices beat the competition and service is fast. You won't be disappointed.
This place is a good breakfast restaurant! Small, but the food quality is good and prices are fair. Highly recommend it to anyone.
This is a fabulous, historic Takoma diner serving traditional American and Korean fare. The steak and kimchi omelet is my favorite, the grits are tasty, and you can never go wrong with the french toast. Staff are super friendly and welcoming towards small children. Coffee is straightforward, bottomless, and costs way less than your meal, a pleasant rarity in the old DMV these days. They'll even top you up at the end of the meal so you can finish catching up with an old friend, another courtesy sadly vanishing round here. Highly recommended stop for breakfast, brunch, or lunch.
My breakfast - smoked salmon platter - was very enjoyable.
This is a really cute Korean American fusion cafe in the heart of Takoma Park. Love the homie feel and friendly vibes. Stopped by and ordered the ban chan sampler, shrimp tempura bento box and a kalbi/ salmon dish. Everything here is very authentic. Don't sleep on the crowd or chefs. The kalbi and salmon were cooked just right. Ribs marinated well and very tasty. The bento box is filled with plenty fried goodies. Scallion pancake and the seaweed was a nice touch. Overall I enjoyed my experience dining here and well definitely be back to try their other dishes. If you're looking for some good Korean food or American diner type this is the spot. Very inexpensive and local!
Love this place, great and friendly staff fair prices amazing food I only wish you guys were closer to me definitely always check you guys out when I'm in the area.
We stopped in for a quick brunch. Delicious food, reasonably priced, with friendly service in low-key setting. Looking forward to returning!
Lovely place in DC with a fabulous selection of lunch menu items! It's pretty packed though so when it's busy you might get squished a bit! But this is definitely a gem of a place!
Totally hip Takoma Park classic. Salmon breakfast rocks.
Few places in the area serve better quick meals than Mark's Kitchen. I have tried most of the dishes in there and rarely disappointed. I have great love for the Breakfasts, with the various combos, of eggs and veggie sausage, grits, or a vegan breakfast. I dig the Veggie Club sandwich most. On Monday and Tuesday, they run a Stir Fried vegetable special over brown rice. Fabulous. The fruit and veggie shakes are great and they even serve beer and wine now if I am not mistaken. If you stay in the Takoma Park area, you have to eat there.
I've eaten at Mark's many times. The food and service are reliably good. I don't much like the space: the tables, chairs, etc.
Great food! Great service!!!
Fast service, delicious food, community oriented.
I was back in the area for a few days and had to grab something at Mark's. So good. Really try anything, but also try the ginger tea. This most recent time I had the fried rice. Always worth a visit.
Good food and decent priced. Best Fries in Takoma park
This is a great local spot with an eclectic menu. You can order traditional sandwiches and comfort food, but also Korean dishes and creative vegetarian and vegan dishes. I'd recommend trying the potato pancakes, tofu spinach cakes, or big grilled cheese with veggie bacon. It can get crowded, so plan accordingly.
Veggie omlette and potatoes great as usual.
Mark's has everything for everyone. A visit here is like coming home.
This is a nice diner. I love the Korean items on the menu, and the vegetarian sausage and bacon.
Food ok, but its decoration is nice. I am very interested in a drink name Leninade, so funny
Went there a few weeks ago, My only complaint is that my $5 bottle of Star Hill beer was Extremely warm. They brought us all cold glasses to pour the beer in but it made very little difference. Food was good though!
The Asian tuna was delicious and the waiter was personable and friendly. The whole restaurant has a cozy atmosphere. I love that I can come here for anything ranging from a grilled cheese to bibimbop.
Mark's Kitchen is a Takoma Park institution. Wide variety on the menu. Something for everyone. Good ingredients. Tasty tasty. Packed on weekends so time your visit accordingly.
You will not be disappointed. No matter what food you want, Mark's has it. They offer vegetarian and vegan optionS. They have breakfast, lunch, dinner, nd dessert. They are super friendly. And the best part? They are super affordable.
Love this place!!!!! My sister and I used to eat here every Saturday. I live too far now so we go every time I come to town. Always packed but very friendly and prompt. I love the small town feel and family Atmosphere. It's easy to forget you're in the city here. Absolutely wonderful food and good prices.
Tried the tofu scramble, it was delicious! Great breakfast spot!
Went there for lunch and saw 2 cockroaches "on" the wall. I will never come back.
Great food, good service, etc. What else can I say?
My favorite go-to spot, fresh, lots of options plus Mark is so friendly- great customer service!
I had the delicious spicy tofo and soba, one friend had the kimchi fried rice with egg, and the other friend had the pene pasta with pesto. All of us were very satisfied! Very friendly and helpful service, and fair pricing. Despite the modest decor, the quality of the cooking here is excellent. If you are in Takoma Park, and have taste for something out of the ordinary, definitely try this unique take on Korean fusion.
I ordered the avocado, cheese and egg sandwich. Food was fresh and came out in a timely manner. It appears Locals frequent this place and I see why. Homestyle cooking along with the decor and energy of this quaint cafe. Friendly customer service and great menu options. Prices are more than reasonable.
Great neighborhood spot for fresh good food! Always great carryout service too.
Breakfast was great with blueberry pancakes until I saw two roaches running up the wall that took my appetite away. I called this to Mark’s attention who swapped at one and seemed unconcerned. I regret not leaving a tip for the server, but I’ll find another place to eat.
Dear Owner, My husband & I had been loyal patrons for years. In fact, I'd been a fan for even longer. Then we purchased a house in North Brightwood close to Takoma DC just 1.5 miles from your restaurant. We were treated horribly by the waitress. She was not only rude to us but mean to my sister-in-law who speaks perfect English. The food was seriously awful. It was extremely embarrassing because my sister-in-law was our guest visiting from Hong Kong. Do you know how many times, when I was her guest in HK, I experienced rude servers or bad restaurant food? Never. I'm frequently the only non-Asian at the dining establishments my in-laws have taken me to & I can only say 3 or 4 words in Cantonese. I have always been treated with kindness & professionalism at HK restaurants & cafes. I don't know if I can permit myself to be abused by the restaurants in DC and suburbs any longer. When I moved closer to Takoma/Takoma Park I was so happy. But the constant bad experiences at Bus Boys & Poets, Souper Girl, and now Mark's Kitchen (and last year at Urban Butcher in Silver Spring) have forced me to be extremely selective about which businesses I and my family support. Why would I continue to support a business that offers bad customer service and poor quality product? And hires racist employees? I find many of this region's businesses truly do not care about their customers. If you think you do, I'd suggest travelling to Hong Kong or to U.S. West Coast to compare and contrast what you currently believe is very good to excellent service and what is very good to excellent quality food. Then maybe you'll understand.
Not a place to wine and dine someone, but a local Takoma Park staple/ favorite with a full menu with something for everyone.
Love this place.
Mark's Kitchen is great and offers a wide range of dishes for vegetarians and vegans while offering many interesting drinks from sodas, juices, and beer. They have great milk shakes and deserts available. The odd characters and interchangeable work staff make this place a charm. It is also timely for pick up options
Nice hometown dinner feel with many choices on the menu. Great quality food.
Great! Delicious! Unique! Love Spinach Tofucakes. Also a Mocha Malt for dessert. They have a great selection of bottled craft sodas, too - including Cheerwine.
I like the all - day breakfast at Mark's, a Takoma Park institution. A casual, friendly, neighborhood eatery with good food for the price. (My rating would be five stars except their juicer makes their fresh-squeezed carrot and orange juices taste and look like they have celery juice in them. Get your juice bottled from the cooler.)
Great breakfast options and a lot of natural blends available. They also have a wide variety of tea options and very friendly and courteous servers. Overall, a great place to dine.
Great food. A little too warm on a hot day but a good place to eat and talk. Very fine service too.
I didn’t feel welcomed she didn’t want us to sit at a table because she didn’t want to clean the table
Unbelievable food!! Great vegan options - including onion rings!! Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, would definitely recommend!!
The food was really good but the owner charges you for everything including the condiment I ordered pancakes and they charged $2.50 syrup pancakes were $5.50
Had vegetarian Kim Chee fried rice with two eggs... Damn. I haven't had it this good since I was in Hawaii. Not too salty, flavorful, hot and fresh...I mean damn. Added vegetarian bacon, and a peanut butter malt shake...wow. I wish I knew about this place sooner. 100% recommended.
Nice little neighborhood eatery. Sweet people.
I love the food. The korean fishcake breakfast is outstanding. The service was not exceptional, but pleasant. Don't be fooled into thinking they source food locally. The casual atmosphere makes for a very nice dining experience. I wish the portions were a bit larger.
This is a community icon- great comfort food, vegan dishes, healthy breakfast & large satisfying salads. Weekend waits but we'll worth the wait. Try the Specials, very good & fresh. Mark is very personable & takes pride in quality food & an good experience..
Highly recommend the Korean steak and kimchi omelets.
Diner atmosphere, but excellent food and choices, from burgers to fresh juices and salads.
Korean American diner and the best bib bam bop.
A place you should visit. I have no word to express the customer handling of the old guy, he is excellent
Great little spot for a quick affordable meal, good service, the kimchi was delicious.
Great breakfast place, lots of vegan options. Very crowded on weekends.
Everything I've had here has been fantastic. The staff are attentive and accommodating. Plus, there are vegan options!
Great omelets and potatoes! Good place for vegetarians and vegans too!
A local dining institution. Not fancy (to say the least) but a wide selection of good, tasty food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in an informal setting. Although not a diner per see, it has something of a diner vibe. Menu includes lots of Korean dishes as well as classic American diner food.
Really good breakfast. I had sweet potato pancakes which were delicious. It was crowded but we got a table pretty quickly. If you want to eat there on a weekend morning get in early close to opening time.
An eclectic mix.
This restaurant is the worst place I have ever been to. The orange juice was warm and old. The eggs were terrible and the French Toast was awful with eggs stuck to them. I am not even sure where this chef went to school if he did because this was the worst food I have ever had and to top it all off they have the nerve to over price this food. Lastly, there was ONE only waiter for the entire restuarant. Do not go here. Save your time AND money.
Wonderful neighborhood diner with a delicious Korean flair. The menu is varied and there are options to make everyone happy.
Marks kitchen is a wonderful Takoma Park classic. The menu is a variety of Korean-American cuisine with options for adults, kids, vegetarians, vegans, gluten free, and willing to accommodate other needs. The staff is friendly and welcoming. They serve smoothies, soft drinks, hot drinks, and beer. Bathrooms are not handicap accessible.
Loved the experience and the food.
So many wonderful, healthy menu selections. Interesting twist on breakfast...Korean style!!
I don't understand the overwhelmingly high reviews of this place. We went there for breakfast/brunch on a busy Saturday and realized that we were overcharged for mediocre (at best) breakfast food that a cheap fast-food diner place could do better. The server asked if I wanted maple syrup or regular syrup with my French toast, I said maple. Little did I know that little plastic box costed $1.25 more (the server should have told us it was extra). Good for them for doing really well. The place was packed and we waited almost thirty minutes for lukewarm and tasteless food. Will never ever come back.
I go for the vegan options. It has a huge and diverse menu so even a picky person like myself can try six or more entrees before there is a repeat. The menu does a good job of mixing Asian and American classics.
A small, local restaurant with an extensive menu for all kinds of moods. They have a good variety for vegetarians and healthy choices and also dishes with Korean flavor. It's a Takoma Park institution.
Definitely not the best breakfast experience I have ever had. Food was good but what bothered me was the time it took for it to arrive. After waiting for about 45 minutes after ordering, I asked a waitress if she could give us an update on our order and was told rather curtly that " when your food is ready I will bring it out for you". Decided not to press the issue. Got our food and it was clear our eggs and potatoes had been sitting on the plate for a while. Pretty sure there are other, far better breakfast places around DC in terms of food quality and service.
I love this place! Fresh juices, tasty breakfast with vegetarian and vegan options, really cozy and friendly staff :)
I'm dying to come back and get another Korean Grilled Cheese
Food here is horrible. Essentially taste the same as if you just prepared the menu items from your own kitchen with no culinary expertise. Will not be visiting here again
Wide menu selection, great tastes, and plenty of vegetarian or vegan options.
Excellent food, good value and fresh taste and flavor.
So many great vegetarian and vegan options. Friendly and fast service. Had the pagoda and squash barley dishes. Also offers small snacks.
My wife loves this place so much she might make us move closer
Prices of a fancy restaurant, mcdonalds service, decorations of a public restroom
Different options for breakfast. Very good home fries.
Good Korean fusion food at reasonable prices. Offers good selection of beer and wine. You can also hear you are dining partner.
My favorite casual place to eat in Takoma Park. The Korean dishes are great - love mung bean pancakes. Even my daughter likes them. Servers are super friendly and the menu has everything you could want.
Good food, good people, but very loud.
Friendly atmosphere but loud when a full house. Great food, many vegan offerings. My go-to place in TP.
Yummy veggie options... substantial portions! Really good food.
Nice and pleasant atmosphere great vegetarian and vegan breakfast...
Lovely little family run diner that is very comfortable. I'd say cozy may be a better descriptor. The food and service we're excellent and I intend to return to try some of the other dishes that also look like a delight. There are a lot of vegetarian and gluten free options (as many of the dishes are Korean based), but there are many dishes that are common to American diners as well. The ginger chai is wonderful.
Delicious food and great service! We love Mark's kitchen for breakfast and dinner. Everything we've had was very tasty.
#vegetarianfriendly #datenight #healthy #eatoutside #dogfriendly
Decent food, service and everything. It is easier to make reservations!
Great natural juices and delicious food!
Food is great if you're a white person without taste. Chicken is dry and the beef is candy sweet. This shouldn't be labeled as asian but rather American. It's good for vegetarian options but if you eat meat, don't bother.
Great menu with lots of options. Specializes in Korean and vegan food. Has gluten free options. Their spinach tofu cakes are delicious.
Great little Korean/American breakfast joint, I think it does lunch too, but I'm all about the breakfast
Cheap & good!! Very kind waiters!! Lovely place
Always friendly. Great variety of food.
Worth the trip
I used to get their grilled chicken and avocado and a side order of man doo (best dumplings ever!) and when I turned vegan, I would get their tofu and avocado club, still tasted great! When ordering their tofu and avocado club, say you're vegan, because it can be made either vegan, without the fake bacon, or vegetarian, with fake bacon, which has some non-vegan ingredients. Overalls customer service is great! I have been going here since I was 10 years old, and for the past 9 years, it's only gotten better in my mind!
It was a remarkable restaurant full of vegan vegetarian and other options. I really did love ❤ it!!
Local watering hole for bottom feeding marmot, washed away with garbage juice
Love Mark's kitchen. Wish more places were like this. Always nice to my daughter. And the food is out of this world. Family and I try to go once a weekend.
Super cosy and casual local spot in Takoma Park! Lots of unique vegetarian, vegan and Korean dishes. Check it out!
Marks is the pinnacle, iconic takoma park food. And for good reason. They have something for everyone. From vegan food to korean food to vegan korean food. They sell lots of candy, drinks and other things just like a convenience store the staff is friendly and Mark is there a lot of the time, making sure it stays great! - "Local Guide" Minus the age :)
Always get their delish jap chae
Great service with a wonderful fusion of flavors. Make sure you try the ginger milkshake!
It has all kinds of food ranging from sushi to hamburgers. The service and food were both excellent.
Amazing neighborhood spot with a great menu. Love that they have turkey bacon!
New to town and exploring weekend breakfast spots. First off, the food was good. Pretty standard diner type food. Nothing special, but good. This is my second time getting food here with the first time being carry out with the same food experience. The juice was fantastic, however. Now, as far as the service is concerned; very disappointed. When we arrived they were somewhat busy but the server we talked to wasn't even sure they had a wait list. We ended up waiting for quite some time (30-45 minutes) before they almost gave away our table to another group that just walked in and sat down at the table they were clearing for us. I said something and they changed course. After ordering almost immediately, it was a very long time before we received our food. By the time it made it to our table, it was barely warm. The coffee and waters were only refilled only once and sitting on the table empty - even with the very long wait. My wife's oder was wrong (even though it was one of their menu items with no changes). All-in-all, it was a disappointing experience and it is almost certainly a "last-resort" place to eat now.
The menu is a bit of a mishmash, but the atmosphere was nice and the food was good
Many vegan selections. The buckwheat waffle (vegan) is light and not too filling. Excellent scrambled tofu and vegan sausage! This place is highly recommended!
Friendly place, pleasant staff. Sliced potatoes a little under cooked. Scrambled eggs marbled, not fully scrambled. Broad menu. Specialize in Korean foods.
Great place to grab a bite to eat. Try the crabcake club with the sweet potatoes. I did and enjoyed them.
I love Mark's Kitchen, I've been going there for years. The food is taste & interesting, the place is clean and provides a variety of things to surprise your palate. The rest room is a bit tight and could use an update other then that everyone I've turned on to Marks had no complaints.
Wish my Brooklyn neighborhood still had soda fountain places like this.
Mark's has decent food. The interior could use some love, and new menus as the ones we used looked disgusting.
The best black bean burger I have ever tasted! I also love the sesame broccoli that comes with it though I wish it were served warm. Mark seems very friendly as well as some of the staff.
Amazing restaurant and a genuine community feeling and patronage. Old Town Tacoma is an amazing town!
It OK place to eat
Ms. Monica was attentive and gracious, the apple pie is delicious!
