The location of this place is amazing! However, the food and the service is not. The staff repeatedly forgot our drink orders (for 4 people). Everything took a while to come out. We also had to chase down our waitress to get anything from her. It just wouldn't be a place I would go back to. Oh but on the upside, the food is really cheap and so are the drinks. So if you are not looking for anything special and decent atmosphere, then this is the place to go to. But everything will take a while to come out.

The service and staff were great. On the other hand, my chicken quesadilla tasted like soggy canned chicken and was barely lukewarm. Also there was no cheese, not certain if that was intentional. Either way, there's more flavor in a cold hot dog, which I would recommend as a lunch atlernative.

Jennifer Abrecht

My favorite place for salsa! Their shrimp fajita's are the BEST!

John Miller

Good tacos and a decent margarita. Nice location.

Thomas White

Worst place in the world to work. Roaches in the back...owner has lots of closed door meetings with waitresses...employees mob out people that don't join the clique.

Matthew Keith

Hilariously bad service. It wasn't busy. At no point did anyone even offer to refill our waters let alone offer us a second drink, which really just seems like a bad business move. You can understand that if the place is busy but our server only had 2 maybe 3 tables. Some of the food was okay standard fare, but the carne asada was basically charcoal despite being ordered medium rare.

Martin Melin

I've eaten here several times and have found the food to be bland.

Love Vieira

Yummy food and delicious margaritas!

CG Poore

Nice atmosphere, too loud inside and this was a Sunday evening. Food was not good, my wife got 6 shrimp in a shrimp quseodea. Prices were high for what you get. I recommend Mexicali Cantina or Cacique (there owend by the same people).

Lina Maria Morales

This is no mexican food is Americans pretending they know what is mexican food ... so disapointed of the place and the food ... JUST FAKE MEXICAN FOOD and you can notice when is just american staff working

Cynthia Chasse

Very nice place, delicious food and our server Kayla was cute, charming and fantastic.

Raman Veda

Very disappointing Food no way close to Mexican food ! Salsa is just smashed/scraped tomatoes no spices no onions (Ingredients that make are usually used to make salsa). The Quesadia was cold and horrible, vegetables and bean folded into a cold tortia, We sat in the patio and it was very dirty/unhygenic with water running out of the trash can .Taco bell has better Mexican food This was our first time and probably our last .

On my husband’s 23rd birthday, this restaurant would not serve him a glass of sangria because his ID was vertical and not horizontal. The waitress was extremely rude about it and just kept telling us “you can go and talk to the manager at the bar”. We provided a photograph of his birth certificate and a photograph of his passport but they just kept saying it was against their policy. If the waitress had been kind we would have been understanding however she was quite rude. As we left, the waitress slammed the door behind us.

Overall horrible experience. The only positive was that the hostess was bubbly and smiled. And then my mango margarita was decent. Everyone else we interacted with was not acceptable and the food was horrible. As we are being brought our chips and salsa by a bus boy, I ask for a small plate of refried beans. He snaps at me (young boy, maybe 16 or so) saying I have to ask my waitress, as he can’t help me. Our waitress (older lady, maybe mid-late 50’s I’d guess) then promptly comes to take our drink order but is severely hearing impaired I would guess because we had to repeat ourselves multiple times and she kept leaning into us more and more, even though it wasn’t too loud inside with other customers. The chips looked like they came straight out of a bag from Walmart. The refried beans looked like canned cat food. It was just a dark brown BLOB that was cold and my cheese on top didn’t even melt. My enchiladas were burnt corn tortillas with a ton of sauce on top which tasted like a plain marinara sauce with something spicy mixed in. My mouth was burning. My husband got steak fajitas (as there was no “mixed fajita” choice as every other Mexican restaurant offers-chicken and steak combo). It was over seasoned yet somehow still bland and blah tasting. The flour tortillas were obviously store bought as well. Coming from the west coast, I’m used to ACTUAL Mexican restaurants where the beans and tortillas are HAND MADE and the food is delicious. We both barely touched our food and didn’t enjoy the few bites we did eat. $50 later and we both came home still hungry, having to make another dinner. We will not be returning.

David Allen

I enjoyed the food but my wife and daughter did not. They have very good cheese enchiladas. That was my favorite. There queso is a bit watery and I didn't love it. Overall I give this a so-so rating

Jim Ferrant

Inexpensive Mexican food with great vibe n super Margarita s. Always good n fun.

Gio Smith

Don’t waste a single penny on this place the chicken fajitas were dry the salsa is shredded tomatoes like who does that and not even the chips were worth it WARNING:this place is not worth to spend your money

kd_ itsallgood

The chips were stale, the salsa was just flavorless shredded tomatoes. The queso was pinkish in color, (wierd looking) tasted like watered down tomato soup, consistancy was watery and the little bit of cheese was not even melted, yuk! The chicken fajitas: the flavor was okay but the ratio of chicken to peppers and onions was about 1:10, and the chicken was cut in tiny pieces. The refried beans were room temperature, not warm enough to melt the cheese sprinkled on top. The pico de gallo: appeared to be canned diced tomatoes, no cilantro, no onion, flavorless. Nothing worth going back to; too bad, it's a nice location.

Johnny B

Excelllent as always!! Highly recommend ....A+

Andrew Krause

Everyone is super nice, but the salsa is odd, chips are plain doritos, and food is average at best.

Lisa Harshman

Oh my! I simply cannot rant and rave enough about this place! Very nice, clean atmosphere with incredibly awesome and experienced waitress. (I wish I'd have gotten her name. If she isn't part owner, she certainly carries pride and care as if she may be) The food...again, I cannot rave enough. The perfect blend of mexican seasonings served on piping hot dishes. I highly recommend everyone that enjoys a great Mexican dish to try this restaurant! My only semi-complaint would be the seating can be a little uncomfortable as customers are seated very close but I understand as I have witnessed a continuous flow of patrons and would not want to see anyone miss this dining experience.

Kristen Frazier

Always a great experience here everytime that we go! Sunny is the best server and is so friendly and is all about her customers. Great food and service and I definitely recommend the fajitas!

Dylan Littman

Great margarita on the rocks of course. Only had chips, salsa and queso to eat. Good place to roll in and have a drink.

Kelly Leach

The food was great and our service was exceptional. It was pride weekend in Frederick and i know our server, Marisa, was busy. She had a great recommendation of the Mexican boat and she was very attentive. A wonderful meal.

Sheri Lowman

Kennedy was an amazing server! Outdoor seating is dog friendly. Raspberry margarita is a definite must have!

Darrell Russ

My favorite haunt in Frederick. Best margaritas in town!

Claudia A

This was definitely not Mexican food. The enchiladas tasted like spaghetti, the beef fajitas needed flavor. I've never had to ask for salt and pepper unless I'm having breakfast so this was a first. I spent $95 and not a penny worth it.

Dina Caple

Horrible experience! The only nice thing I can say is the hostess was very nice. The queso looked scary and tasted as bad. The food was bland. My friend ordered shrimp tacos and it looked like a store bought shell with a few shrimp inside, awful. The waitress was awful. I was expecting the house margarita to be good at least, nope. I can’t believe they’re still in business.

Dianne Bagley

Drinks are ok, a bit strong. Food is definitely par. Very hard to mess up Mexican food, but this restaurant has succeeded. Marinara sauce is not enchilada sauce, this restaurant needs to be told that. I will definitely not go back. As someone who has lived and worked in Mexico City, who knows and understands that of course Mexican food will not be the same, I can confidently say, this restaurant knows nothing in taste about Mexican food.

Rebecca Marrone

Disappointing. Plenty of tables available but it took 30 minutes for 2 of us to get seated. Then, my order was wrong and no one came back to check on us. Fortunately, they took it off the bill.

John Schwartzbeck

La Paz was not like the typical Mexican restaurants I have been to. It was very different from the beans to the salsa. I ordered the special of the day, fish Tacos. Which were actually pretty good. The salsa is more of a shaved tomato salsa and the beans are more of a bean mash. Rice is a spanish tomato rice it seemed like. Over all, not my kind of mexican.

Emily Strubert

My favorite place to eat Mexican food! Delicious options and great prices and selection. Amazing salsa!!

PapaNonGrata

La Paz is fine is you don't care how your food tastes, but Frederick has so many great restaurants, I can't give it more than two stars. The location is perfect, and if you've already eaten somewhere else, I'm sure this is a wonderful spot for a margarita and people watching. The staff was nice, maybe a little too quirky. It's like Mitt Romney opened a Mexican restaurant. You can eat it, but you shouldn't like it.

Brian Threadgill

Drinks were really good, food was ok.

Jasmine Bukasa

The food was extremely bland. Good service nice presentation. Just the think Taco Bell might have more flavor than this place. I won’t go back for food. Salsa is definitely from a can it has zero garlic nor salt.

Tyler Allen

If you’re looking for authentic mexican food, or at least something relatively close, this is not the place to waste your time at. The beer was 10 degrees cooler than room temp and the food tastes very “American” Save your self the time and go to Taco Bell if you want a cheaper equivalent.

Peter Heiss

Good food and good prices. Not exceptional.

Amanda Workman

Queso + Mexican boat = GREAT time with friends!

Dixie Morton

The best chips, dip and salsa! Outside seating is fun. Cant go wrong here.

Rick McNugget

Used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Frederick but after the the food I got today I will never go back... I got $50 worth of food there and none of it was even edible, it was that bad! I have me desire to even give them another chance, I spent $50 and still had to go get food somewhere else.

anthony romano

This is our second time here and we have enjoyed both visits. Nice size starter salsa and chips as you sit down. Meal was good, service was pleasent and prompt

Ali Kuhn

Got the ruby red....yum i wanted to gulp it, but i took my time. Got a fajita. Super fresh. The salsa had a kick, pleasant surprise! First time here. Dog friendly outside!!

Brysen Fitzgerald

Awesome spot to eat food when in a hurry. Their service is efficient, rates are affordable, good mood. Would recommend to others

Kate Cullen

Been going to LaPaz since 1987, always good.

Skip Schaper

One of the worst in Frederick. I think the other reviews are fake/paid for. I've actually eaten here. Try almost any other place within a mile for better everything.

Christina Kuntz

Good food and great service. We had the steak ranchero special, black beans, guac, and chicken tortilla soup. The only downside was the salsa. It's got a very strange texture and not much flavor. Other than that, it was great!

Lawrence Potts

Great location, amazing waitress, unfortunately, SYSCO canned food. I will not be going back.

Liz Haney

Get outdoor atmosphere. Good food and drinks.

B Chuck

It was... Okay. The tacos I ordered were bland though the beans and rice had some nice flavor. The cheese queso appeared as though it wasn't "done" and resembled a quick movie-night concoction that one would make at home using what was in the fridge. Guacamole was mashed avocados. It did not have onions and tomatoes or anything to spruce up the flavors. Drinks were okay. The atmosphere is very nice. It is located in the downtown Frederick's town center. The service was good and waitstaff were extremely nice. Although there was a wait to be seated... It wasn't a bad dining experience. The food prices fairly match the quality of food. I would probably not eat here again if given the choice but I recommend everyone try it out for themselves before writing this place off. By the way... 2 stars... I was being nice.

Katey M. Lawson

This place wasn’t that great. The food was ok, my margarita was watery, and there was barely any salt on the rim. The nachos was suuuuper weird—a flat tostada covered with retried beans, about an inch of melted white cheese (not Nacho Cheese), and picked jalapeños. That’s it. The server was nice, but I would not go there again.

George Valdivia

My wife and kids had traveled into Frederick with our three sons. La Paz Mexican Restaurant was one of our favorite places to eat and we frequented often when we were dating. We decided to take the boys and show them around. Of course they had moved since it had been years since we had come down this way. But La Paz was still kicking strong and the food was even better than I remember. The ambiance and location had taken a new flare. The staff was very warm and very friendly. Our waiter was out of this world, he was very attentive, thoughtful and so very respective that my wife and I were so impressed. I called the owner today and told him all about Erick. Letting folks know when things are good is just or perhaps more important as when you have a complaint. La Paz Mex we will be back.

Wil Nusser

The location is great, and our service was good. The only problem was the food, and that's a big one. There was very little kick to the food, and while it's obvious that their fare is not intended to be authentic, it even falls short of Mexican-American food standards. Everything was quite bland. I found myself reaching for the salt shaker quite a bit (something I rarely do) just to add a bit of flavor. That's unfortunate, because everything else was excellent.

Debirah Hissey

We sat outside on patio. We arrived late at approx. 9:30 pm. We we're taken to our table. Our waitress was very quick to notice us & take our drink & food order & very nice. She checked back with us 3 times to ask how everything was & if we we're going to order anything else because of time kitchen closing at 10pm. Food was great as always. Good time, good place to eat & chill outside. Inside is always more active / busy & to loud for me. But ok in the cold months. We loved our waitress.

Jon Wyatt

Very disappointing to say the least! The chips seemed from a bag and are basic corn chips. Salsa is just smashed tomatoes that looked like they were scraped with a pumpkin scrapper. The chilli con queso was cold and looked like vomit! We also asked for water that was never received and we had to request the check from someone who wasn’t our waiter. I paid the 20 dollar check with a 50 and he returned only to give me 20 back, pocketing 10. I had to confront him to get it back. Another waitress offered to give me 10 from her money at that time he came over and said is everything good? Avoid the waiter Eric!

Paul Busman

Several people had recommended La Paz, so we gave it a try last evening. We were underwhelmed. Our area has a large Hispanic population so we have a great selection of Mexican and Central American restaurants. I don't claim to be an expert on authentic Mexican food but my wife and I found the food to be bland and uninteresting and we found the decor to be visually jarring. The greeters and our waitress were very nice and helpful,I'll give them that.

Robert McNamara

Got to sit upstairs during first Saturday. Our kids had a blast with the server and the food was great. Nice views from the second story where our table was.

Patrick Thompson

Food was great. Service was ok. Staff was very friendly. Atmosphere was nice. Will definitely go back.

Jamie Ryder

Ok food and casual atmosphere

Nate Movies

This place is amazing. Every time I try a new food I just love it! I always want to come back to it!

Caitlyn Johnston

Really good food for a great price - with nice outdoor seating. Not authentic Mexican food, but very close. Regardless, it's super yummy! The tiles in the bathroom are authentic, though. :)

Laura Dingle

It's really confusing after all of the years this place has been opened that people like this establishment so much. It is overpriced. The quality is poor. The portions are nothing to write home about. The Salsa is weak and watery. If it weren't for the staff and the margarita's, I would have given it a 1 star review.. There are so many better Mexican restaurants around Frederick. Not worth the wait at the door.

steve graunke

Best margarita of your life

Ed Hodges

Typical Mexican restaurant and menu, reasonable prices, friendly wait staff, nothing special about the food.

LVI Siren IVL

Good place to eat, great staff, great drinks. I will be coming here in the future xx

Lisa Hodson

Salsa and margs. . . Are great! And the friends you will make while dining. . Unbelievable! Between the countless regulars and the long term staff you are bound to know someone! It's pretty amazing!

Rick Hartnett

Good food and fun place. Great location in downtown, right next to Carroll Creek. Enjoy!

Casey Ryan

Food was amazing. Very authentic aside from the lack of heat. Margarita was ok. From the other reviews I was expecting the opposite experience. Eat here drink elsewhere

Jodi Blanchard

We were seated inside the restaurant. Only 1 other party came in after us, so We were the only two parties inside the restaurant except for the bar area and outdoor seating area. The party that came after us Were greeted by three employees, receive drinks, chips and salsa. After waiting 15 minutes for service we walked out. I told the The hostess, & her response , “I’m sorry”. We would have stayed had she reached out to remedy the situation. Won’t be returning or recommending.

Allison Grant

Good atmosphere. The wait staff is the best

Peder Noteng

Very good food. Really recommend

Joshua Botkin

foods alright, i got there fried ice cream and it is definitely not shareable. It's a small scoop of ice cream at best with a pound of whip cream.

Christopher Schneider

It's not bad but it's not the best Mexican food in Frederick. It is a bit of a local Legend downtown and it's a decent place to go if you want Atmosphere downtown.

Arthur Taylor

La Paz is a decent Mexican joint in the middle of downtown Frederick. You can't beat the location, really. It's near the little river that goes through town, and the surrounding plaza is quaint and clean. The food is okay, some of the biggest flautas I've ever seen! They were tasty, but nothing was really that outstanding. The sauces were decent, but the salsa itself was strange. I think the veggies were grated, which made for an off-putting texture. Which is sad, because the actual flavors were pretty decent. The enchilada was unique in that the tortilla was a little crunchy around the edges. Not sure if that was by design, though. The fillings were all right, but nothing immensely memorable. I was also surprised by what was missing from the menu: tamales. That's usually my litmus test for a Mexican place. Not so, at La Paz. The drinks were the main problem. The first margarita was good, but subsequent drinks were very weak. There's no chance they were made the same as the first round. We were only planning on two rounds, so it was very disappointing. It also took quite a long time to receive our drinks, even water, and that includes refills. The food took probably a bit longer than it could have, but we had a big party, so that's understandable. One of the orders was very late as well. It just wasn't that memorable or impressive. If we were in the neighborhood again (and had tried every other area restaurant first), and if we were feeling Mexican, we'd probably go back. It's just not first on my list in the area.

yellow fin

Putting a tomato through a food processor and slopping it into a bowl does not qualify it as salsa. I think this is my least fave spot in Frederick. Save your money. I think people come here for alcohol more than food.

Tracey Keitz

The chips and home made salsa are amazing! We really enjoyed our food. This was our first visit and we can't wait to go back!

Nicole W.

I have lived in Frederick for many years, and had never been to La Paz before. But, I always heard great things about it. So, I ended up giving it a try one weekend! Let me tell you, I wish I had come here sooner! I went for lunch, and it was delicious! The service was very quick, and the food was excellent. Our waitress was very nice, and everything was less expensive than I anticipated. I will definitely be returning!

Brendan Gay

Food is good. Nothing spectacular but you dont pay high prices. Salsa is weird. Me and my family love it but it is not your typical salsa. Everyone says they have some of the best Margaritas in town. Well decorated. Waitors/Waitresses are hit or miss but we go for the "vibe" and the salsa

Mary Patricio

Cute little town which would be 5
