This Restaurant belongs to the category of Korean restaurant.
Great food and staff.
Unique experience. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy. The menu had many options.
Great apprentice to Honey Pig if you're in the city. I actually prefer it to Honey Pig!
Great food atmosphere & service
Jon Kak is a Korean restaurant that offers both a regular menilu as well as Korean bbq and has Karaoke rooms upstairs! Personally, one of the selling points of this place is the fact that it's open till 4am, which is a rare find in Baltimore City especially a for sit down restaurant . Their kimchi fried rice is excellent as well as their jalapeño (& green onion) korean pancake . They have a decent selection of soju, makoli, sake and beer. Every time I have visited Jon Kak, I've experienced great service and the staff is really nice. Lastly, parking has never been a problem as there is a parking lot adjacent to the restaurant as well as street parking spots directly in front of the restaurant.
Iv had Korean BBQ all over the east coast... Jong Kak happens to be one of my most favorite local places here in Baltimore! Authentic flavors, smokey meats and outstanding variety of hot Korean style soups
Place has been around a long time. Needs a good facelift as it seems so dirty. Old sticky tables. Wont even mention the restrooms. But... food is Good. Not great. Good thing most of the guests have been drinking all night.
Awesome experience, friendly and priced right. Meat combo plater #3 was perfect for 2 adults.
The younger wait staff are either incompetent or racist. They are really quick to serve Asians and caucasians and super slow or no-show for African Americans. The older lady is excellent.
Get spicy tofu soup
I have been to several Korean Bbq but this is one of my favorites. My only issue is I wish you could create your own combo. The 3 combos available you can't sub anything you want.
Amazing food and service
Not a bad place to try an authentic Korean food occasionally. I tried fried pork and tofu hot pot soup. It was not bad at all.
Rude staff, terrible side dishes, and over priced
The food is okay (maybe worth about 3.5 stars), but I'm giving this restaurant 1 star for the following reasons: My wife and I happened on this place on our way to Northern Virginia (Google search). Right as we sat down, a panhandler walked in and began to harass the staff (he kept asking to "speak with your mom" to one of the waiters). A lady who I assumed was the owner (or manager) told this waiter kid to "make him leave" in Korean. Due to the lack of reaction from the staff, the panhandler then began harassing the customers, asking for money so he could "take the bus back home". I stood up and told the panhandler I'd give him money if he left the restaurant and left the customers alone. I handed him two dollars and the panhandler finally left. This whole ordeal took about 10~15 minutes. The waiter (who had been asked by the owner/manager to take care of the situation) thanked me for getting the panhandler to leave. However, nobody else at the restaurant, be it the management or any of the other customers, thanked me for taking care of a potentially volatile situation. Is it really a customer's job to deal with panhandlers who walk into a restaurant and harass customers? Shame on the restaurant management for doing nothing.
Amazing Korean place. Soondubu was BOMB AF. Highly recommend.
Great place for a group visit!
Way too spicy but it tastes not bad. I am wondering if they can do less spicy soup. I’ll ask next time :p. Their free appetizers taste soooo good, love it
Enjoyed the bibimbap and jalapeno pancakes. Have a good vegetarian menu
Absolutely outstanding charcoal Korean Barbecue. The steamed egg is on a whole other level from anything I've tried, the wait staff are friendly, and the air is cozy and warm. All in all a great experience I will definitely be coming back for again.
The rice bowls are amazing!
Really native Korean food! Original Korean style, very delicious, price is very good, wonderful late night hours! And they serve Yakult after meal!!! And the waiters are very friendly and handsome! Waitresses are pretty! Love this place!
We loved the food, service wasn't bad
This was a great Korean restaurant (for the area), had a good selection, expected prices, and most importantly was delicious. The waitresses and manager were efficient and nice. I have no complaints.
Awesome food experience
I've adjusted my review after a few visits over the last 6 months as I have found the food has become increasingly sweet for Korean. I'm not sure if the purpose is to cater to a more Western audience, but is no longer what I'm searching for when looking for Korean dishes. The dining experience itself has also slowly declined in recent visits as the wait staff appears distracted even when there are not many patrons. We had to start turning the meat that was cooking ourselves as it was beginning to burn. They seemed offended by this, however they only came over because they saw us doing it ourselves. Hopefully just a bump in the road, but I will give it a few months before attempting another visit as I cannot justify the bill with the quality and service received.
Excellent food and service
Cute environment and good food. Went there at 2 am and the vibes were great!
Soooooooo effing good. Vibes: Amazing. Food: delectable. Crowd: beautiful. Selection: profound. Don't play yourself. Come through.
Amazing kbbq. Bonchon, pancakes and grilled spicy meats were great. Lots of soju to be had. 5*
Never loved. They don't know how to grill meats at charcoal. It was a Koean BBQ. Meats were all burned black. A waitress said it was normal because meats were roasted on hot charcoal. They should not grill Koean BBQ.
Don’t come here after midnight. Way too slammed and you don’t get good service
I ordered chicken with vegetables and it looked like it was some kind of frozen microwavable patty that they gave us cut up with some lettuce on the side. That was like over $12. This is not real Korean food. If you want real Korean food in the Baltimore area you need to go to Honey Pig in Ellicott City. These people are ripping people off. People who do not know what Korean food is.
Very delicious and inexpensive
Korean style BBQ restaurant. Their staff is very kind and friendly. We enjoyed very much. Thanks.
Alway a good time and great food!
Surprising good Korean BBQ in downtown Baltimore. Meat quality was pretty good and the service was friendly and entertaining. Having their own parking lot is definitely a plus in Baltimore.
Top notch korean BBQ at a decent price. Great service, really tasty dumplings. The outside put us off a little, but once inside, we were very pleased.
Holy cow. What an experience this place was. Authentic Korean BBQ to the extreme. Service was perfect and the quality of meat and ingredients is so above and beyond what you would even think. A wonderful experience and I will definitely revisit this place in the near future. DAMN!
Joyous dining. Great service. Just plain fun.
Nice lunch collections and the bbq is okay. I am a little concerned with the area so probably will not go by myself after dark.
Solid but not spectacular Korean BBQ. I've only been here once, but I'd like to come back again.
Great food, however it was very busy when we ate there. The wait staff were not very pleasant and seemed too busy/bothered to assist (such as refilling water).
Got sick off of the food and the wait staff wasnt really friendly. I asked her about our charcoal grill looking like it was about to fall over..She made a smart comment about how this is how it is in a korean bbq restaurant ..I have been to several and never been treated like i have been here. there was no explanation about anything
Do not know this place
Food is great but the service is not.
Good place, good soup, but very pricey
Not ok for wheelchair access Dirty bathroom
Good, authentic Korean food with a decent variety of options for everyone, including good vegetarian options.
Not bad. Bit overpriced.
Great with a group of friends. Or, a romantic dinner.
Always love our experience here. Delicious food and great service!
Friendly waitress, tasty food, didn't get a lot of heartburn on the bulgogi.
Disappointed... I have been there for 2yrs and find the food quality is decreasing. The pancakes was over cooked. And when I mentioned to the waiter, he didn’t care and said it should be normal. 1 star for that. Other dishes we had are not impressive, 3 star for that.
Standard Korean fare. Service was unexceptional. BeOne, in the neighborhood, has similar food and much better service.
Called on Wednesday night to order food. One of the server picked up the my phone call and I tried to order it. She said give me a second and then about few min later she just hung up. I called several times again but at this time no one picked up my phone call. What a rude. Never order again!
Good food awful services
Food is excellent! Service is good as well. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the location. It's not in a safe place. Lock you car!
Authentic Korean food with great service. Barbeque beef is really good!
Amazing authentic Korean food. The facility is in a little disrepair. Not a clean appearance
Food is great, service a little slow
New owner taste not like before
I'm not Korean but I trust that it was very legit based on the crowd. And it was freaking good food. Got a pile of meat and the sides are essentially unlimited. Get lots of that spicy kimchi.
Authentic Korean food served with Korean hospitality! Have been here several times and plan on going again soon!
Food is good but its a bit pricey.
Tasty Korean fried chicken. It's a little pricey but good.
Very nice korean dinner experience! Staff is friendly and BBq dinner was awesome
No 1 Korean barbecue restaurant in the world^^ The staffs are super friendly.
Great place to eat after seeing live comedy at the
Late night (3am) food. High rating simply because it was open. Delicious if sharing with friends.
Good food
Poor service. Subpar food for the price.
Pros: don't have to leave Bmore, open till 4AM!, biggest and best seafood pancake I've ever had, never had to wait for a table. Cons: solid but not the best. Spicy pork was more bitter than sweet, and soup dishes were fine but forgettable. Still, if this were in any other place than central MD, it would be killer late night and Korean food. Go and get the pancake!
Ok so the bbq is awesome but for some reason they cannot accommodate you as expected and the res system is completely broke. They need to figure it out or add more bbq areas.
I didn't know some of the food I'd be expecting here.
I was not fond of the soups quality as if it was too gooey and I am not a picky eater and there was not enough beef in any of the soups for the price.
It's always a shame when a place that has been so good for so long starts falling off the wagon in various ways, but my last few visits here (especially the last one) have been getting worse. In general, the food is still good, which will keep most people coming back since there aren't any other charcoal-grilled bbq places in Baltimore. The service, however, has fallen off a cliff. I was last here on a weekend right after they opened at 11AM when there was only one other non-bbq table seated and two servers. The service was painfully slow, continued to forget things we ordered (like when we asked for a bowl of rice twice and never ended up receiving it) or were negligent, like ordering 2 bbq items but only getting 5 pieces of lettuce and no sliced garlic+chili pepper until we asked for it, much to our server's annoyance. Even though we were the only bbq table there, the server almost never came to stir our grilled food and even though the charcoal heat was weak, it took them a solid 40 minutes before they decided to address it with a hairdryer. The most annoying thing was that when we asked for something, our server would walk to the sink area, started messing with her phone and then engaged the other server in long conversation, completely ignoring/forgetting what we asked for. It then took 30 minutes after finishing our meal to flag someone down for our check. Our stay lasted about 2 hours for just 3 people. There was also no yogurt drink with our checks which was another disappointing cherry on top. The banchan spread has gotten much worse over the years as they've not included some of my favorite items like oi muchim (spicy cucumber) among other things that used to be available. As a Korean, it's rare finding a great K-BBQ restaurant and I really used to cherish this place, but our friends and I have decided that we'll have to start trying other places a bit further out. I can't really recommend Jong Kak anymore.
Amazing and authentic
Went here because of the great reviews online but they are definitely misleading. The place itself is actually really dirty the tables are sticky, all the vents and hoods are covered in grease and dirt, the actual pit where the coals are placed is caked in old coal and burnt food, not to mention it is hot as hell. Any Korean BBQ i have been to usually has the AC on high because your indoors with several little fire pits going at once and it tends to get hot. The price point for the food i felt was extremely high considering the amount of meat you are served; all the sides giving were very well made the kimchi was perfect as was the pickled veggies and that was sadly the best part of the meal. Service in the restaurant was decent not any issues with seating or the waitress taking our order but dinner for 2 people came out to 65$ with tip and i feel like it was a waste of money i was not impressed and would not go back.
Decent spot. Friendly enough service
Amazing meal. We cannot wait to go back. Get the dumplings
Very cool experience
Came here after reading the reviews. Good food, price is very affordable, but you should either drive here, or take Uber/Lyft, probably not safe walking on the street. (The photo was taken after I started eating
Good things in Remington
A local favourite Korean restaurant esp among college students for late nite dining. Open until 4 am.
The food is always delicious here!
My daughter & myself go to this place all the time. Love it Love it.
Food was OK but in my opinion, the restaurant is run down, and a bit of a dingy atmosphere. The service also lacked friendliness. I uses to live in Arlington, VA and enjoyed Korean barbeque frequently with much nicer overall experience. The pricing is not a bargain. Dinner for 3 people was close to $75 including tip and no drinks.
They use charcoal instead of gas. It makes a huge difference in taste, by far the best in the area. You’ll also be served a ton of sides - at least a dozen! You’ll never go back to gas powered Korean BBQ ever again!
If you want to try korean BBQ than this is one of the best place to go. I usually go there if i want to refresh my tongue. Pork belly is the best disc i had over there. This place will be best if you are in a group of 4 or more. If you are less than 4 than it might be a little bit expensive for you. But that is worth it. And the bell at table makes us more easy for calling them if we have any problem. They only do table bbq if it is two of more than two bbq item. And they sounds a rude but i think this might be because of there korean tongue.
Private Rooms for fun with friends after hours. The rooms were clean and the staff was nice. Food and booze are available late night and rooms rent by the hour.
First time tasting Korean bbq & I was impressed, great late night dine in, service was patient. Must try dumplings
Excellent BBQ! The flavors were terrific, and the service was good (with an attitude--which I like). Traditional, with an array of variety that make Korean BBQ what it is. The atmosphere was smoky and intimate. Best I've had in Baltimore City so far. They even have a parking lot!
I found the food to be better than any other Korean restaurant. Enjoyed my meal very much and liked the gritty unpretentious atmosphere. My son travels to Korea frequently, he said the quality of the food is about as good it can get.
Each time we go, we enjoy ourselves. This is an awesome restaurant and wonderful introduction to Korean Bbq. Our Family celebrations are often eaten here!!
The food is very good. It's just a little better than average. The ingredients are quality and the atmosphere is very casual. If you want to use a barbecue table, you'll have to wait unless you don't come during peak hours. It's a little too expensive for what it is you're actually getting, but isn't much more expensive than the standard Baltimore restaurant. The portions are much more generous if you don't use a barbecue table and just have it cooked from the kitchen. Overall a good experience.
Best Korean BBQ in Baltimore. Service was great and fast for late night meal. Plenty of free parking on the side of the building. A+++
Legit and delicious Korean BBQ with the full spread. The wait staff was great as well
Great food, cool atmosphere. Service could be a bit better but it's not bad
The BBQ and the sauces tasted very mediocre.
I had barbecue there and it was quite expensive. The waitress wasn’t very attentive to our table. a good portion of our barbecue was over cooked and therefore wasted. Not a very good experience there.
I eat there quite often when i heard they will be adding dry aged beef to there menu i was tempted to try it. The food was remarkable. Service was good. I love all the table top foods we had while we were there. We went overboard a little cause we started ordering to much soju but the meal was excellent. They are doing some improvements and overall security was great for the area.
The surroundings looks a little bit shady. But the food is Great. Highly recommended if you prefer Korean Food.
Great people. Need adequate ventilation system in early h room! But laid back fun time!
Hands down, the best Korean BBQ option in B'more. Authentic cuisine. The dishes keep coming, and there is no skimping on the meats. Incredible Korean adult beverage selection to match. Family owned and operated. You know it's good when half the tables are Korean customers. The secret is out... The young, trendy Baltimore couples and groups crowd lines up and waits several minutes for tables here on Fri/Sat nights. The slightly inebriated trendy crowd waits several minutes for tables here later on those same nights. Love the vibe and love the food!!! Parking is stress free, with a sizeable corner lot outside. I still give it 5 stars for taste and authenticity, but there is one downside... Dont expect any white linen tablecloths or good ventilation. It gets very smoky inside from all the sizzling beef; even if your not seated at a BBQ pit table. Unless you shower and change after eating here, you're not going to smell ready for continuing the night out on the town anywhere else afterward.
I have always wanted to eat at a Korean BBQ spot...i have to be at school at 830am...got off of work at 3am...i only went for a co workers birthday... got home at 430am. The food was so good and so fresh it was well worth it. I cannot wait to tell other people about it and go back for a second time...its kinda expensive but amongst a few people it should be fine. Low key clean close at 4am good food. You can't beat it with a stick.
Only place in MD that offers charcoal grill kbbq. Quality of food is good probably around 4. Price has gone up way too much tho. It is kind of outrageous. I take my kbbq virgins here for the charcoal. They love it. I wouldnt go here on regular basis.
Wish the servers were nicer. They were very terse and look very much reluctant to interact with customers unless absolutely necessary (took them 15 minutes to take our order). As for food, their portions of meat are smaller than other places. They also need to find an alternative kimchi supplier; the taste is distinctly terrible and I would not let it be the first taste of kimchi for anyone. However, one up-side of going here is that they offer more side dishes than BeOne. The grills for kbbq are archaic and required the waitress to crouch under the table to blow air across the coals with a hairdryer. The area that it is in is also dangerous. I witnessed a drug deal not 10 paces from the front door of the restaurant, so please be careful at night! The one redeeming part of their menu is their soups. Their regular menu might be better than their kbbq menu.
WE LOVE IT #theUsualSuspects
Yep food is awesome. Must try beef binbap or chicken ginger soup. Lots of variety entrees to try. You will get lots of assorted vegetables sides while waiting for your meal. Yum! Yum!.
The best Korean Bar-B-Que in the city.
Best Korean BBQ in the city. Cook the meat over charcoal. Staff is a little slow but it is because they are so busy.
I love the beef soup here
The wait wasn't too long, but the restaurant was packed and hard to get around. I felt like I was in someone's personal space until we were seated. Great food, but not if you're on a budget. You're "required" to order two entree "sets," so it's not worth it for two people. It's enough food for 3-4 people.
Best Korean food in town
1/2 order of #1 was enough for 2 hungry people and it sure was delicious! Great staff with a sense of humor too.
Burned my food, waiter had an attitude about it
We came down to Baltimore for restaurant week, but didn't find anything that stuck out, so we decided on Korean BBQ. I'm so glad we did! The restaurant has two areas, a BBQ area and a non BBQ area. Just walking past the huge bowls of soup makes me want to come back and try them, but we we're here for the BBQ. The staff was quick the food was amazing. They have combos that you can get, like most Korean BBQ places. The spicy pork and pork belly melted in my mouth. Entire experience was heavenly. Must. Go. Back.
Omg their food was sooooooo delicious I can't wait to go back!!
Just ate lunch here. Food was great. Service was decent but could be a lot more friendly. They served 8 side dishes and they were all great. Tofu and Kim chi dish and Gop Chang stew hit the spot big time. Portions were generous. Definitely coming back.
I've been here twice and both times it was a really good experience. food was delicious and filling; prices were not crazy; and service was not bad. On the first visit, we told our server it was our first time doing KBBQ, and her being a bit of an apathetic teen didn't give us much additional help ordering, but she warmed up as time went on and turned out to be nice.
great food, great service! our bbq was perfect, and our waitress was very kind :) will be coming back soon!
Back again... As i remembered.. great food great place..
Two of us split a half order of one of their Korean BBQ specials. Five different meats all cooked on a charcoal grill in the center of the table. The food was delicious. The price wasn't too bad for the amount of food we got, about $60 for the meal. That includes the meats plus 15 or so side items to eat with it (to make lettuce wraps and such). The restaurant has about 8 bbq tables that are capable of doing the Korean BBQ meal. There's another 12 or so tables that you can order different types of food at too (korean entree dishes, soups, stews, etc.).
Food was excellent and fast. Karaoke rooms upstairs for before and after your meal. Too bad the block lost power before our karaoke jam finished. They were nice enough to comp the 50 min of the hour we booked and only charged us for drinks. Can't dock them for that. Can't wait to go back.
Always amazing.
Very overrated. Always mobbed, kind of expensive by the end of the night, and the place is so smoky and hot I often have to step outside a couple times to cough and rub my eyes. Better Korean spots in the area for sure.
It's delicious if you really enjoy meat but it's kind of expensive. It's for not regular visits. The half barbecue really serves 2-3 people, if there's nobody super hungry. In this case, I'd order an appetizer first. They offered an yacult in the end. The cold sake is good but the Kloud beer is bleh. Anyway, worth the visit and maybe come back.
I'm a old customer of this restaurant. I used to go to barbecue a lot. It was delicious and I gave a good tip. But in recent times, I went there and found the taste and the people who worked had changed, and the service was so bad that I felt very offended when I was forced to charge more than 20 percent of the tip, so I never go there again.
The food is delicious, the service is nice, it isn't expensive and they don't make you wait long
The food was good but the service was TERRIBLE and was not worth the 18% tip. We made a reservation for 9 people a week ago but they forgot our reservation, and did NOT even apologize! They can forget so I understand that. This wasn’t the end of it though. We asked to split the bill using 5 credit cards (this is not that many credit cards considering that we were a party of 9) but they pressed an incorrect button and made us pay in cash???? Oh and we still paid 18%tip!! I’ll never go here again. Terrible place. Go to Be-One.
Ive been here for lunch and dinner. Overall a great atmosphere and the food is fresh and well prepared.
From the afternoon until after other places have closed for the night, this is the spot for great food and drinks. Don't let the area fool you, this is a diamond in the rough. We made a reservation so we could have BBQ at the table, glad we did, all tables full by 7:30 on a friday.
I should've trusted other reviewers. This place has decent food but nothing great. Meat was good, specifically jumuluk. Soups (soondooboo, doenjang jigae, kalbi tang, maeuntang) were average. We went on a 90 degree day and I couldn't believe there's no ac in this place. They had a couple fans running. There were flies around and just felt a little dirty.
Nice charcoal grill dining experience
Authentic Korean BBQ in Baltimore
Good service
Food is delicious but service is terrible. Took mother in law for her birthday and it was embarrassing how obvious the racism was displayed. They lied they said didnt have lemons when requested then asked second waitress and they brought one out. The coals kept going out and I had to hold a blow dryer to keep coals going. Hardly any service at all. They kept trying to rush us out of restaurant by removing the meat before it was cooked. Refused to bring more sides. They were snickering and looking. It was embarrassing to see such racism displayed. We spent over 100 and should not have been treated so differently. Will not ever return. What a shame.
The very most fun you can have
Absolutely disgusting
Good food, and packed when we were there, but we didn't feel pressured to leave the table. Service was a little slower than I would like, and I wish they had announced what each of the meats were when they brought them out. Overall a great experience, and there are private karaoke rooms upstairs!
Great authentic Korean food!
Good and cheap Korean BBQ
It was a quiet place to eat. Im not found of soups, and their fried dumpster were too crispy almost burnt. Id have to go again for the bbq section
Customer service was meh. They tried to rush the cooking, like serve the chicken still clucking kind of thing. Food was delicious once we told them we would cook to the doneness we wanted. Rice seemed a little crunchy. Kimchi was yum. Noodles great. Mandu on point. Location is questionable. Not for the non adventurous. Won’t go back but would if I lived closer.
Loved everything about this place. It's in a shady area but not too bad. The charcoal grills are really the highlight. They really add to the experience. Don't be fooled by the sub par interior decorations...it's good food and that's all that matters if you ask me.
Great food, good service and open 'til 4 am!
Great charcoal style Korean BBQ restaurant, left the place without having a strong BBQ smell on my clothes. Meat combo's were moderately affordable and good quality. The fried dumplings and the seafood buchimgae were delicious and great sides with the rest of the meal!
I've got a long term love relation with Jong Kak. The first time I came here was over 7 years ago and I absolutely loved it. This is the second time I've been here and I just say it's still as amazing. The only complaint I have is they use lighter fluid to get the coal going and it's a bit too potent.
The food is simply amazing! The staff was friendly and very attentive! I order the marinated bulgogi and I was mind blown....if you want something close to an authentic Korean bbq spot you just found it. You will be amazed I promise you❤
Food was very good as much as i ate in korea
Great service, and quality meats.
Great food. Service could be better.
Loved the experience!
I got the spicy pork bbq, it was amazing the area is not the beat but not bad. Small amount of street parking out front. Food is good. Interior has a rustic look to it. Service was great. Highly recommend giving this place a go. Tons of options on the menu and all sound great
Best Korean BBQ in the city. Great environment and a great place to bring a group of friends or family. Highly recommend!
Delicious. A little undersaffund but the food and service do not suffer!
The food was amazing!!!! The atmosphere was pleasant and the servers were super nice. This is a great place to hang with your friends or bring the family.
