I go here frequently. It is IMHO the best Indian cuisine in Fredpatch and the only place with Nepalese dishes to my knowledge. They do Tandoor grilled items much better than their curries. The Vindaloo and Masala is very decent, but not great. However items like Chicken Tikka or the Tandoor mixed grill are amazing. The Paneer Nepalese chili is highly recommended. I think their Indian flat breads far outclass even the more upscale Indian places in Montgomery county. Go beyond your usual choices for Naan and try the Paratha or the Puri (puffed bread)..it'll knock your socks off. Great owners and the serving personnel are excellent.

Best lunch buffet in Frederick. Vegetable Pakoras are simply perfect. Curries, Dal, Tandoori Chicken, Navratan Korma, Bhuna Baigan Bharta, Fresh fluffy Naan Bread. All excellent. Stop feeding yourself with corporate crap....this is REAL food.

I ordered dinner at 8:25pm last night and was told it would be ready in 20 mins. I ordered Chana Marsala, chicken biryani, spinach and potatoes and 4 naan. After making a stop I got home to find there was no spinach in the bag. I called today at 1:30pm and spoke with AJ, who told me he would replace my dinner if I came in then or after 5pm. I arrived at 5:18pm only to be told AJ was not there and that they could not and would not replace my meal. This soured my experience and I would not recommend anyone visit the Clay Oven in Frederick MD. They don't bother to make sure they're giving you what you ordered nor do they keep they're word on promises made to paying customers!!!!!

So I needed to have something delivered and I could not choke down another Pizza, chinese or sub dinner!!! So i found this place delivered and decided since it was just me and my daughter, we would have a girls night, pretend trip to India dinner. I had Indian food only once before in my life and that was when a Friend from India, made Chicken Curry for me... that was the extent of my experiance. When I called, the gentleman who answered was very patient with my questions. I told him my daughter and I had very bland palets and couldn't tolerate anything too spicy. I asked him what he recommended for our unexperianced American taste, and he suggested the combo #2 and a side of chicken curry. My daughter and I layed down a blanket, wrapped scarfs around our shoulder, put on A.R. Rahman and set our dinner placement on the floor. When the delivery guy came, he was so nice! He taught my daughter how to say, "How are you?" and invited us to try the lunch buffet to experiance more Indian food. The meal was delicious and was a very different meal for us. We enjoyed our girls night "in India" and the staff at Clay oven were a big reason why, along with the amazing food. We will see you on Sunday for the buffet! Thank you for your kindeness! P.s. idk what the small container with the sweet purple sauce was, but WOW, make sure you try it!

I was very pleased with my recent experience here. The restaurant is small and cozy, situated in the middle of a business strip. Service is quick and friendly, with orders being brought out in a short time. Buffet options are available here as well. It would be nice if naan was served complementary to most meal choices instead of having to be bought seperate. Nevertheless, the food is great-tasting and definitely recommendable.

Absolutely fantastic first experience. Owner AJ greeted us and was so warm and welcoming. Service was attentive and helpful in guiding choices. I ordered a platter that included a samosa, naan, mixed grill and saag paneer. It was $18 and will easily feed me 3 times. My husband ordered the shrimp biryani; again huge portions and incredible flavor. I can’t wait to return!

I have been to clay oven twice now. I really like the amount of integrity that goes into the service. The food is unbelievably yummy. I recommend the beef korma or the lamb in yogurt gravy. My boyfriend was a sheep farmer and is very picky of lamb. He was veey impressed by their lamb quality.

Food can best be described as horrible. Anyone who gives it more than one star doesn't know Indian cuisine. It gives Indian food a bad name. I usually come home hungry from the parties that cater from Clay Oven. Have mercy on your taste buds and avoid this place. I wouldn't have given it even one star if weren't for its nice staff.

The Chicken or Lamb Biryani is absolutely amazing. It has a lot of meat and veggies and is absolutely huge. Do note though that it has nuts and is quite spicy, so you'll need something to wash it down. The Lamb Rogan Josh and Chicken Tikka Masala are quite good, very creamy but somewhat spicy. The Naan is absolutely delicious, as well as the Vegetable Samosas. Try this place if you get the chance!

First time here. I got the mutter paneer, cheese pakoras and naan. The naan was a little overdone but still good. Everything else was delicious! They could give you a little more sauce for the pakoras,so order extra!

I ordered chicken tikka and butter chicken. told the lady to make both spicy , also ask her to give me 2plastic plates and 2 plastic forks , when I opened the bag nothing was in there neither napkins, chicken tasted the same in both containers I think they just give me the same kind for both and the sauce wasn’t spicy at all . Hope they improve a little bit more on their carry out orders . It was my first time ordering in this place , I gave them 2 ⭐️ stars

I grew up in England, where Indian food was something we are frequently, and we struggled to find a good Indian restaurant in Frederick. Clay Oven is it. Delicious food, and plenty spicy, not bland as at other restaurants we've tried. The service is genuine and prompt, without being overbearing. Takeout is delivered hot, and they will deliver a long way, although the fee is pretty high. Overall, a great choice for Indian food in Frederick.

Recently ordered from here using BeyondMenu as that is the only way to get free delivery from here unless you call. The orders are sent via fax and I ordered at 6pm, come 8pm no food has been delivered!! I called in and asked if they got my order - nope! Apparently the fax didn't go through, but I got charged. I called BeyondMenu who refunded my order. Right after I received a call back from Clay Oven asking if I still wanted the food. I was super hungry and ready for bed. They quickly took my card over the phone and got my food to me in 10 minutes! Not only that, but gave me like a double-sized naan bread (yummy, try it with honey) and a free mango smoothie which was totally tasty. They were very apologetic and let me know just to call in the order next time. They have great compassion and customer service, great food too. Can't ask for more.

Finally re-opened, and just as good if not better than before. Clay Oven has some of the friendliest staff possible. They do have cloth table cloths, pre-set tables, and curtians at the front window, so if you have a grabby toddler be ready for that.

I had it about a month ago and it was probably the worst Indian food I've ever had. So watered down and had no flavor. Surprising seeing the other reviews. In addition, the service was also terrible because my water was never refilled even after I asked for it to be refilled. It might have been the staffing that day or something but I'm not sure.

Terrific Indian food! I'm going to edit this review to say the food is still great. We like the Chicken Tikka and the Bread Basket is a favorite since you have various types of naan. Since the option to have home delivery has been around, we tend to use this more often than eating at the restaurant; however, we have had very good service when we choose to dine in.

Had their delivery, arrived in less than 30 minutes from a little over 5 miles away. For Indian that does delivery, it was decent enough. Very comfort food; the naan was slathered in butter. It wasn't the best Indian I've had in Maryland, but it was good as a casual dinner.

I verbalized this issue with the manager politely. He ignored me and continued on his way. He didn't care. We will not be going there again. This was the worst Indian food I have ever consumed. I was so excited for Clay Oven to open up (I'm new to Frederick and it was closed when I moved here). The reviews looked great but don't be fooled, I got Indian spicy and there was no flavor or heat at all. Both my girlfriend and I threw our dishes out after just a few bites. Agra Palace is a much better use of your money. Seriously would never recommend Clay Oven to anyone ever.

We were on our way back from Berkeley Spring and had two very hungry kids in the back seat. After finding the Clay Oven was on our way home, we decided to give it a chance. The food was excellent, price was reasonable and the service outstanding. My daughter ask to seen how they folded the napkins into a crown on the plate and the waitress stopped and took the time to demonstrate. We all walked out very satisfied without being able to fit another bite. Next time we are in the mood for Indian cuisine in or near Fredrick, we know where we are stopping.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Frederick. The food is mouth watering delicious and the service is even better. My mom was cold when we were in the restaurant and the owner and his wife brought her a heater. And every time we asked for more onions, chutney, or pickle, they brought it over immediately with a smile. For the meat eaters out there, the kebabs and tandoori chicken are AMAZING! Always hot and fresh. You may go into this area with lower expectations because it's not located downtown Frederick, but the location is deceiving, and it truly is one of a kind. Ajay and his wife are very sweet and make us want to keep coming back. Highly recommend!

For a wonderful dining experience complete with culinary delights featuring foods from India and Nepal, be sure to visit Clay Oven in Frederick, Maryland. We recently stopped in to grab lunch and see what had become of the eatery since a fire caused an interruption in business a few months ago. Much to our expectations based on prior visits, upon opening the door we were immediately bathed in the aromas reminiscent of the Indian subcontinent and typical of the Clay Oven’s tandoori specials. At lunchtime, diners are able to enjoy the spread available from the buffet. Of course, the menu is always a viable option when you visit. The buffet is a great choice, 7 days a week. For this visit we had our sights set on the buffet. Just like me and my preference for veggies, I found a generous selection on the buffet. This day on the buffet, the veggie dishes were Vegetable pakora, navratan korma, daal makhani, saag (spinach), vegetable chow mein, and zucchini masala. The non-veggie dishes were tandoori chicken, chicken curry, chicken tikka makhani, and beef curry. For starters we selected a fresh garden salad. We were sure to collect the condiments from the buffet line. These included tamarind sauce, cilantro sauce, spiced & chopped fresh red onions, and raita. Other staples that you might expect were present, so we helped ourselves to generous portions of basmati rice and naan. Diners may choose fruit salad or rice pudding to close out the buffet meal from the best Indian/Nepalese restaurant in Frederick County. For us, this place has the best lunch meal deal with a wide selection of freshly and kitchen-prepared items, that are delicious and tasty, and in an all-you-can-eat setting that offers sit down service with a friendly and attentive wait staff.
