Love love love this place, I will for sure be back! Even though we took a little bit longer to get our food the waitress the staff was amazingly nice very polite and very attentive and it was not that expensive I am telling you!! Huge plate of food in your face you probably won't be able to finish it and you have leftovers to take home really really good try the catfish I recommend .

This location is a hit or miss with Customer Service. This is one of those occasions where the service was bad. The lady had an attitude when I ordered my and the cashier did not greet me she just took my debit card and handed it back. The food was good (baked chicken over rice, collard greens and potato salad). I would recommend this place if you're looking for good soul food.

In town visiting my daughter who is in law school at Howard & she brought us here for lunch along with my son....the smothered chicken, Mac/cheese, collard greens & those wonderful cornbread muffins... my son had the Jerk salmon topped with shrimp and crabmeat, my daughter the Creole topped salmon...thoroughly enjoyed it & we will be back...

I’m start by saying this the food is excellent and I love this place too the point that I asked for my family to take me for my birthday on April 23rd it was a great experience we all had fun and enjoyed our dinner they even sung happy birthday to me an brought me a free ice sundae.At the end of the night my boyfriend paid for dinner using his card but didn’t use his card for the tip I tip the lady with cash because that’s what we normally do,my boyfriend looked at his online statement an seen that bill was no longer 81.51 that it was an final charge of 89.51 so the waitress STOLED 8.00 dollars from us by making one of the zeros a 8.We are highly disappointed that this was done to us I understand that they work off of tips that’s why we make sure we give cash for tips so they can get it right way in their pockets I just don’t understand what was the point of stealing I am so upset cause now One of my favorite restaurants may not be my favorite anymore because stealing is Unacceptable I’m not telling anyone not to continue to visit but be careful and always look at yur banking statements unfortunately we don’t remember the waitress name but I hope it doesn’t happen to anyone else.As an company I think the waitress should be held accountable in some way because of her actions no one should have to go out to eat and have to have the worry that an waitress is going steal from them for an EXTRA tip!!

I LOVE Carolina Kitchen! From the juicy greens, to the abundantly cheesy mac & cheese to the perfectly seasoned Blackeye peas (I usually get a vegetable plate). I have to stop myself from going there for each and every meal!!! I mean variety is the supposed to be the "spice of life," but CK just gives me life!!!

Food was good. The wait is ridiculous. We waited 45 mins to be seated which is normal. We waited another 35 mins for someone to come wait on us. We had to ask who our server was. Then we waited another hour for our food to come out. The food is amazing. They have to find a better way to manage their tables.

I love the authentic southern soul food vibe and taste that this restaurant has to offer, especially when we have limited options up here in Maryland. Most of the items on the menu are good, but not overwhelmingly great. Their customer service is great. The place is really crowded and busy on weekends though, with long wait times. They have live music every Monday at 7:00 PM so that's an added bonus. I go there very often, so of course I'll say I'll definitely go back again!

Today i called in for a pick up order my food was disgusting the macaroni was slimy and greasy, the greens were over cooked and the yams were burnt. They also gave me the smallest piece of chicken. I will not be coming back to this location. Over time they have been getting worse. And the cashier in the front is always very rude and unprofessional. Horrible service !

Entree (fried chicken) was good, but not amazing. Sides, on the other hand, were stellar. I had the mashed potatoes and cabbage.they were both delicious. Other members of family my family raved over the collard greens and mac and cheese. Very reasonable prices, large portions. Would return!

This was my second time trying the Carolina Kitchen within a six month span. The food was awesome although my grilled pork chops were a tad bit tough. My waitress Tatianna was awesome. She was very attentive with a lovely disposition. I will definitely visit the Hyattsville MD location again. I recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area in need of some home cooking.

Now the wait time and service was a different story. We got to the restaurant at 6 and literally didn't leave till 10pm. Our waitress would forget everything we asked for, we had to ask her 3 different times to bring our drinks (which was just water and sweet tea). Our food took an hour and a half to come out which is ridiculous. Maybe it's our fault for coming on a Saturday night, but if we ever go back we plan to go earlier in the day or do carryout I guess. Pros: Great food Good Atmosphere Cons: Bad service (maybe a one off thing) Terrible wait times

I mean, this place is delicious. Chicken chunks are a perfect mix of spice and a smidge of sweet. The cornbread is a dessert. I saw a lady clap with delight when the cornbread arrived at her table. When we got ours, I realized why. Try this place.

This restaurant is a nice place to get a fair variety of dining options. There's a parking garage so there's no problem there. The food is fairly prepared. The seafood dish I chose was good but the lobster was slightly over cooked. Outside of that the service was excellent. The drinks are good. Overall it was a decent experience.

Food still is amazing like it was when I had it about 12 years ago. Its time for them to remodel because the same items from that 12 years ago remains. I was a party of 5 and the seating in there was a little tight but we made it happen. Food was fresh and cooked perfectly. Collard greens didnt wow me but they weren't the worst. Server was cool.

As a southerner by birth, I am extremely disappointed in the food and service at this location. Food is served lukewarm, menu items are unavailable, and there is up to a 20 minute wait for drink and bread plate refills. Also, fountain drinks are served flat from the bar (Any bartender/server can tell if a drink has lost its carbonation. So, now I have to question the cleanliness and maintenance of the bar.) Due to it's popular past, this location is extremely busy and it is clear management values profit over customer service. BUT, what is more disappointing? 60 plus patrons willing to accepting this level of service. If you have a taste for southern cuisine, look elsewhere...

Food was good the beef ribs was excellent. But the macaroni and cheese was mediocre I really expected more. It wasn't a long wait to be seated. But the waiter that I had left much to be desired. Waited about an hour and 10 minutes for my first and only alcoholic beverage. The alcoholic beverage came after I receive my food. The atmosphere is nice and they played some great R&B music.

It's always a great gathering place where there's something for everyone. The service can be a little slow but it's friendly. Many of the dishes can be adjusted to your needs such as the smothered pork chops can be served with or without the gravy. Sides can also get exhanged. The cornbread is served warm with honey which is a huge improvement from Carolina Kitchen's early years. The sweet tea is super sweet which earns my southern seal of approval. If you're looking for a healthier option, try the Shrimp and Kale soup which is available in a cup or bowl size. The broth is delicious and it also had black-eyed peas. I was pleasantly surprised by the seafood options and portions. If you are a Banana pudding fan, please note that this restaurant frequently runs out of it so ask for it early!

Went for my nephew's birthday. We went late. Party of 10. Food was amazing. Service great! They did mess up one order and forget the other so they comped the one they forgot and bagged it to go and gave 50% off the one the messed up (even though they fixed it) with apologies. They also sang an amazing happy birthday song. So even with mistakes, they still get 5 stars for a+ service and spectacular food.

Food was very good. Had Thai Chili wings, baby back ribs, candies yams, and baked beans. Other has whiting, crab claws, and seafood platter. Wait was long but the food was worth it. Also the music (mid to late 90s to early 2000s R&B) was on point! Only complaint was that the service wasn’t as attentive as desired: my water ran out twice.

At my son's suggestion we stopped by Carolina Kitchen before heading home to New Jersey. The food was delicious! The service was a little slow and the Veggie Burger did not have Chipotle Dressing (my daughter is Vegan) and they didn't tell us until she was served. Other than that I have no complaints. I would definitely recommend this place.

I visit Hyattsville once a week! It is a black owned business so I support. However, my last few times haven’t been great at all! Today I chose to visit again and I am never going back! I ordered my usual Which is the jerk chicken. The rice was soggy and the chicken was extremely dry and over cooked. I also got double greens. The greens were horrible due to the fact that the meat in the greens were burnt and extremely hard. So Everytime i bit down i had to spit out the pieces of the meat. I called to let someone know and they were extremely nonchalant about if as if I was asking for a free meal!

Nice place to dine...this time they missed the mark. All the food fried/cooked in the same oil...that means pork, chicken fish, and shellfish. All taste the same and salty. We (all 4) sent our dishes back twice and still had to pay.

Service very slow. Waiter not friendly. Food was just ok but a little pricy for the quality. I had the fried chicken, mac n cheese, and greens. The greens were greasy and a little tough. The chicken skin was good but the meat had no flavor (why do people season the batter but not the meat?) The mac n cheese was just okay, again very greasy. The atmosphere was not cool either, I like the music but it was way too loud. The waiter could not hear us and we could not hear him, and the tables are so close together we were almosy touching elbows with the group beside us. Never again!!

I love their wall photos from 70s and 80s. You should definitely visit for great Soul food and experience the music. When we were there, they had DJ going on. It was perfect for Friday evening vibe with delicious food. We initially planned for an hour of dinner but ended up staying there for more than 2.5 hours.

Great food and crab cake platter was good My husband and I was here on August 8, 2019 for dinner and it was our Anniversary. Did not wait long for table or food. While eating we notice that the staff start moving around tables and chairs. Then the manager made an announcement that a group of ladies of color from every state from a pageant was coming there to celebrate. They lined up at the door and each one announced their name and state as they walk through. I applauded them as they passed by our table. What I thought was rude to other paying customers and us is when the music was extremely loud, the manager and one of the girls started dancing around in the back. I just think no respect was shown to the other patrons who was not there to hear this loud music while they were eating and I did not appreciate it either.
