We had a wonderful evening this past Wednesday thanks to the cheerful and charismatic bartender Emily S. Very pleasant outdoor seating space. Cozy bar that specializes in the smoothest tequila I've ever had. Emily was very knowledgeable AND kept us laughing all night.

The food was quite good. The reason I'm rating this 5 stars is because of phenomenal music and service. When I arrived I was pleasantly surprised to see live a band playing, mostly string instruments. We ordered the ahi poke w/ guac and lobster ceviche. The ceviche was quite acidic (although I realize it is supposed to be) and overpowered the flavor of the lobster. The ahi poke was absolutely delicious. Each bite was better than the last. For entrees, we ordered the jerk chicken tacos which were very good (excellent sauce) and crab mac & cheese which had tremendous flavor and texture. Again service was very friendly and attentive and even though the food was slightly overpriced, I will be returning soon.

Waited over an hour to be told our food was "given to someone else" (as we watched others get served around us that came in later). They didn't comp our $9 super watery crushes. The waitress said she'd put in our order again and we said no thanks and went to Common Grounds. Reached out to the restaurant about the incident and got no response. Totally unprofessional. Update: The manager reached out to me and said that they were short-staffed and asked if he could send me a certificate to try again. I said sure and gave him my address. Nothing ever came. I realized it a couple of months later and reached out to him again and he said he'd "send another" but again never received anything. Why offer if you aren't going to send?

Went there for a late date dining. The customer service from our server and others who worked here was prompt and friendly. Everything we ate (Turkey Burger, Fish Tacos, Rosemary Fries and Garlic Greens) were tasty and worth our appetites, time and money. The garlic greens were a little salty so I did not finish all of them. If you like fries, you’ll love the rosemary fries as they are amazing!! The turkey burger was perfect and the fish tacos were tasty. I would definitely recommend Avenue Kitchen and Bar.

Hit this bar after doing some West coast swing next door at the art studio. The food was really impressive (had the chicken, potatoes and spinach dinner) and the drinks were great also. The service was really friendly. To top it off, they had a great dj on Saturday night and we were able to continue our swing dancing :) thanks!!

I have been to The Avenue Kitchen and Bar over 10 times since they opened. The quality of the food is excellent with seasonal changes in menu. There are staple menu items that the chef has perfected. They have a great dinner entree menu and a spectacular small plates menu. Specials are absolutely amazing. Wine/beer selection is fantastic but, for my taste the cocktails are where it's at. The staff and owners work together to make your experience special. From my first visit, I have been blown away by both the service and quality of the cuisine. Free valet parking available which is an obvious plus in Hamden! With so many choices in Hamden for great food, The Avenue Kitchen and Bar is an easy choice! Check it out!

Can't complain about food as that was delicious but service on drinks was terrible over half an hour for a cider, server then lost my friends credit card, manageress was apologetic, server not so much. Spoilt the evening, then we still paid as they found the card after cancelling it. They knocked a dollar off! Sorry but cannot say I would return on my next visit to Baltimore.

We came in Monday night to celebrate a late Mothers' Day and were disappointed on this return visit to Avenue Kitchen. Despite having a reservation, we waited 20 minutes to be visited by a server, no server stopped by. We eventually asked a waitress walking by if we could place an order. It wasn't even a busy night! We ordered a bottle of wine... it was unavailable, we went with a back-up option... also unavailable, then finally got a fourth-choice bottle of wine on the waitresses fourth trip back to the table for beverages. We had also let the waitress know that we were vegan and we were specific to discuss ingredients, still the brussel sprouts came out with parmesan on them. Some of our entree choices were also unavailable. No silverware until the after food came out. After entrees we didn't hear from the waitress again and had to flag down the bartender for cocktails and the check. My mother ordered a cocktail that also turned out to be unavailable yet again. We felt ignored overall. Two stars for bad service all around, but the food and cocktails were decent.

Visited the restaurant for a late lunch. The menu had a nice selection, plus a good beer and drink menu. They do offer the Impossible Burger though I didn't have it. Good food and excellent service - I recommend Avenue Kitchen & Bar.

My fiancée and I had a wonderful time here. Our waiter, Besnik, was phenomenal guiding us through the menu and was very attentive. For drinks, we began with a Frosé and a rye cocktail. Both were strong but refined. We had the grilled octopus and crab deviled eggs to start. The octopus was cooked perfectly, balanced right between too mushy and too rubbery. The deviled eggs were upscale, topped with caviar, but were missing the crab flavor. For entree’s, we chose fish tacos, which were delicious and perfectly portioned, and a shrimp po boy, which was merely ok. The fries though are amazing and we would happily return.

Shared dinner and drinks with family last week. Enjoyed appetizers of sautéed Brussel sprouts and cauliflower. Our entrees of shrimp & grits, salmon and steak were delish, along with sides of smashed potatoes, broccolini, and roasted veggies. We chose tres leche cake and Oreo cheesecake to share for dessert and we were delighted! Service was exemplary and attentive! Had a great meal; will go again!

My sister, daughter and I decided to try this place. It took about 15-20 minutes for the bartender to give, the very new server, the right martini on martini night. Instead of making him go back and forth to the table, it would be better to come over to the table after the second time. It wasn't that busy. The crab Mac and cheese was good, but also I couldn't buy a side if I wasn't ordering an entree. What? You don't want more money? We won't be back. The server was apologetic, but really he needed more training before taking orders. That's on management.

After some recent disappointments dining in and around Baltimore, the two of us were delighted with our experience at the Avenue on the Friday before Preakness. We were expertly guided through the menu options by a knowledgeable and gracious professional, well versed with the restaurant’s offerings and strengths. Despite the arrival of warmer weather and the promise it holds, the short rib entree was welcome, layered with flavor and beautifully plated. Brussel sprouts, another hold over from the winter months, were delicious and perfectly prepared. A tumbler filled with parfait, chocolate brownies and strawberries completed the evening along with a glass of pinot noir. Well done.

I enjoy the food and atmosphere of this jewel on 36th. I sat down for a meal with a friend and it was not only delicious, but also well presented. The second time I visited, Carlos, the bartender, not only remembered my food allergy, but also what my friend and I ordered on our last visit over a month before. He walked me through the menu and directed me to options that would accommodate what I could eat. When you walk in the main entrance, the door is to the far right. Once in, there is a slope to go down into the restaurant. The lighting is low, but it's not so dark as to not be classy. You could dress up or down and still fit in. Parking is always tight on 36th. It's .50/hour, Mon-Sat until 10 p.m. 4 hours max per spot, free Sundays. There are other fun places to eat on the Avenue, but this place is it. Will definitely keep going back.

The food was exceptional and our waiter Jerry was attentive. I had the crab cake and it was all lump crab meat. My friend had the NY strip steak. Although the steak was cooked to perfection and a good size it was s bit salty for her taste. Good mojitos and beer. We would definetly return here on our next trip to Baltimore.

I've dined at Avenue Kitchen and Bar on many occasions. Each time the food has been fantastic. Every dish I have had there has greatly exceeded my expectations. The Roasted Cauliflower and the Grilled Octopus stand out as some of my favorite appetizers. Avenue seems to specialize in many cuisine areas. They serve the best Chicken tacos I've ever tasted as well as traditional American food like the Avenue Burger, which is to die for. The bottom area is the dining room and indoor bar, where you can enjoy a fancy meal with the family or just kick back casually and enjoy a drink or two. Upstairs is the tequila bar and outside porch seating, where you can order high end mezcal or just pick from the regular menu. Either way, a great meal is guaranteed. Every bartender and server has always given me the best dining experience. I will definitely be returning to Avenue in the near future.

This was a very disappointing experience. Went out hoping to try a new restaurant, and try a new food item (impossible burger) and they were out of the only thing that really looked appealing. The waiter suggested I try the falafel sliders in its place, and I also got a side of fries. The falafel sliders were quite bland, dry, and barely seasoned. The fries did not seem fresh. They were not warm, and they had a very hard texture to them. When I pointed this out, I was only offered more fries instead of just getting some discount. To top it off, we went on a Thursday night and Frose's are supposed to be $7 all night, and we were charged $10. When my girlfriend pointed this out, the waiter said it was only during happy hour. On our way out, I checked a menu and it indeed said it was a special all day Thursday. All in all, it wasn't worth the $3 difference. I was extremely disappointed in this meal considering it was $60 and we each had only one drink.

We were told the Impossible Hamburger plate was vegan, but the flavor of the bun indicated otherwise. After eating I asked to double check with the chef that the bun was vegan and we were told it was a regular brioche. So it has eggs and milk. The waiter barely gave an apologie and did not provide any compensation for such unnaceptable behavior. This is very serious as me and my party could have allergies to eggs or milk. Furthermore, the hamburger was cold and the wine was at least 1 day old.

Aesthetically this place is quite nice, but that's pretty much all I liked about it. Perhaps I'd have had a different experience if I'd come in just for dinner, but I was attending a Night Brunch and the place was packed. The menu wasn't appetizing, however I settled on the Greek Omelet, for $12, which I felt was too much for eggs and veggies and a $10 sangria that didn't remotely give me a buzz. Food came out quickly, which was great, but the omelet was super bland and unseasoned and Avenue Kitchen doesn't even have salt nor pepper on their tables - their chef must think highly of him/herself. The side of home fries was actually quite good, unfortunately 3/4ths of them were too hard to even pierce with a fork, let alone eat. I pointed this out (and demonstrated whacking the potatoes with my fork) to the server who cleared my table, who promptly told me he is "Just a waiter". I also said something about it to the waitress who took my order and she went to talk to her manager about it. 15 minutes later I was informed there was nothing they could do and I was charged full price...for inedible food. I ate that basic omelet so I wasn't expecting a free meal, but I was pretty unhappy to pay for food I COULDN'T eat due to poor preparation. What happened to good customer service? Needless to say I won't be going back and won't recommend this place.

We'll need to go back to give this spot another try. Our Saturday night visit was less than what we would have expected given the reviews. Our server was not well informed about the menu, mis-described several menu items, and was inattentive. Our steaks were so overly salty that the flavor of the meat was nearly completely masked. Honestly, I hope this was just a bad night for them.

Went here for our holiday party. The food was amazing. The biscuits were actually heavenly (especially with that butter), and the meatballs were spectacular. I had the steak which was cooked to perfection. Lindy the batrender was awesome as well as our waitress Aaliyah. She took extra care of our table and will definitely be looking to go back again soon.

By far the worst experience of customer service I’ve had in Baltimore. First off, we only went because on of the staff informed us that Dave Chappelle would be having an after party there after his show at the lyric, by 12:30 it was clear he wasn’t showing up. The bartender Carlos, instigated an incident where a drunk patron was reaching over my friend and I, to which we kindly explained to him to say excuse me. The drunk fool was given a beer, to which he subsequently threw on me and ran out of the establishment. ALL WHILE THE OWNER WAS THERE. The bartender told us, “you’re an adult” when we informed him of what just happened. No type of customer service from the bartender or the owner, quite frankly. Black people aren’t welcomed, and the owner made that crystal clear.

Eventually, when the food showed up after an extremely long wait, on a NOT busy Saturday for brunch, the food was very good. Unfortunately, since our previous visit, they felt the quaint and quiet atmosphere needed karaoke, and not just for a corner of the small space, but blasting the caterwauling to the entire restaurant, such that at the opposite corner, we had to yell to hear each other across our table. We almost got up ande walked out. This will be the last time our group will eat there. Plenty of good options within a couple of blocks.

I could not say I have ever had a worse dining experience than the one I had here. We practically had to beg to get a waitress to take or drink order after waiting for 30 minutes. The kitchen was "out" of half of their menu items. They also were "out" of nearly any wine options and their specialty cocktails. The waitress got our food order wrong ;and she fixed the issue, but then she never came back to the table. She was rolling her eyes at us as if it was a pain for us to ask for requests that I would consider pretty normal. She walked by several times without asking if we needed anything else, clearing our plates, offering dessert, etc. We had to ask the bartender to bring us more drinks and clear our table. We also had to get up to ask for our check. This restaurant has really gone downhill, and I wouldn't come back anytime soon if ever.

I'm only giving it two stars because the bar service is AMAZING! My husband and I are pescetarian and so were limited on the menu items, but the food we ordered was bland and we have no desire to return. The renovations done to the space are minimal and the atmosphere is sparce. The staff are great and try so hard to sell the place, but you get the feeling that even they know it's a slow train to nowhere. I acknowledge that I'm speaking from a pescetarian/vegetarian point of view, so if you're a meat eater your experience may be very different. I do HIGHLY recommend the bar service, it's pricey, but the tenders are amazing and get the drinks right every time. Good luck.

I went to my second wine tasting and can't wait for the next one! For the money you get 10 different wines to taste along with a yummy cheese and fruit plate. I appreciated that some of the proceeds went to the Red Cross for hurricane relief. We stayed for dinner and I had a stellar burger and fries. Finally a burger on the perfect roll, loved it!

Food ok- soggy fries, not very knowledgeable about the ingredients if you are asking about allergies and they don’t seem to take them seriously, slow and docile service.

It’s unacceptable that after we let the waiter know that we were Vegan and ordered the Vegan Impossible Burger, the brioche bun that was served with it was made with milk and eggs. Fortunately any of us is allergic to these non Vegan foods. We are so disappointed for this happening in the present days

Our server and food were fantastic! The mac and cheese was delicious and the impossible burger (plant based) tasted like real meat. Beer selection was great.

We tried this new place in Hamden for brunch and had a great experience. Everything was spot on. Great food, service and French pressed coffee. We we we be back here soon. Looking forward to coming back for dinner and drinks as well.

My sisters and I went and ate their for a night out. I got the Froblanc, nicely slush and mmmm, delicious! My sister had a strong margarita. The "shared" table Duck taquitos. For being a shared food, there was only 4 taquitos, not very shared portion count. I got the shrimp tacos, a little spicy, and the duck fat potatoes which were awesome with the herbs. One of my sister got chicken tinga, which I would have wished I got and that says something! My other sister got crispy chicken sandwich with quinoa salad in the side. She though the chicken was perfectly fried and moist with the fried pickles and the greens that came with it. The quinoa is SO GOOD. Really, I wished I could make it at home. Over all, very good!!

Service at the street bar and down in the restaurant was perfect. Staff were friendly and attentive. The menu is very diverse including salads, tacos, burgers, sandwiches, amazing Brussels sprouts, The happy hour prices are unbeatable and the food is top notch! This is now our neighborhood go-to bar.
