Loved this place! Both alcoholic and non with interesting ingredients including many types of bitters, phosphates and shrubs. It's a little retro-y hipster but in a fun way. Menu is categorized by flavor profile. Staff was super knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. We each ordered two drinks - my second was suggested by the bartender and included a beet shrub component which was surprisingly delicious. Not many seats but there are places to roost and 2 small bistro tables out front. If you try something you like, ask for the recipe - the small store sells almost everything you'd need (other than the actual alcohol), including vintage bar sets, a variety of bitters and alcohol infusion "kits". Well worth your time, even with non-drinkers. Only food seems to be truffle popcorn so don't come hungry. Looking forward to coming back and trying something new.

Went here for cocktails after dinner based on the great reviews. I have to be honest, I really wanted to like the cocktails but didn't. My fiance and I tried 4 different cocktails and all 4 were not very good for one reason: they were way too bitter. Vena's makes their own bitters and other concoctions, so I thought they would make for excellent cocktails: they didn't. All of our drinks had good flavor combinations, but weren't balanced at all because they finished so bitter. Maybe our bartender was just a bit heavy handed on the bitters, I'm not sure. If you like bitter things then this might be right up your alley. But if you like well balanced cocktails, I wouldn't recommend coming here.

This is a definite stop on the Portland cocktail tour. The things they manage to create here are nothing short of magical. There's a reason they have a shop inside. You'll want to try to make some of their drinks at home. Their prices are amazing. Their pours are incredible. Everything about this place from the service to the bartender is first class.

A quirky cocktail bar with a historic flair. Located on the outskirts of the Old Port district here in Portland, Maine - Vena's is a very unassuming little building. Inside, there is a shop for buying vintage cocktail materials and a seating area complete with bar for enjoying the many beverages on the Fizz House menu. The drinks vary from the non-alcoholic variety (for the whole family) to the alcoholic. My favorite drink there is called the Hemingway Frappe, which consists of absinthe (made by Tree Spirits here in Maine), mint, and simple syrup. However, the fact that you can get colonial-era cremes and phosphates is a really neat aspect of this establishment you won't experience anywhere else. The seating is very limited, however, and if you're looking for parking in the area you are going to be out of luck much of the time. Still, if you can come in and experience what Vena's has to offer, I doubt you'll be disappointed. Would recommend to anyone.

My very favorite cocktail of all is here, it's actually not a cocktail proper, since they are also a soda shop, and will make fun sodas with or without alcohol, which makes it a more accessible space. The seating is only high bar stool style, and is a bit hard to get up to if you're limited in mobility. I get the fluffy fizz , which is a beautiful pink drink that's tart and sweet, with cotton candy on top! There are lots of drink options for lots of tastes. Be aware they are not a traditional bar and are not open till 1 every night.

I have to be honest - I don't remember what drink I had here, or what drink my boyfriend had. However, I do know that they were both DELICIOUS and as strong as you'd want a good cocktail to be. I can not recommend this place more! I normally say "definitely stop by if you're in the area!" but honestly even if you're not in the area, GO HERE! You'll get a delightfully enjoyable and cleverly made cocktail and you'll get to sip it in the most adorable place. I live over two hours from this place and have considered going back on multiple occasions. They also have an excellent gift shop with all sorts of cocktail accessories, from bitters to glassware. Highly recommend.

Yes, a must in Portland. Amazing cocktails and kiddo cocktails. My kids enjoyed both Prickly pear and chocolate/ cherry drinks. We had to get seconds! And they explained the recipe for us so we can try making them at home. For grown ups really good smooth Manhattan my hubs was impressed with (not easy), and something to wake up body and soul under apothecary section. (I believe apothecary is herbal medicine, so I assume the drinks would taste medicinal? I personally love that). This is a one of a kind, unique place. Huge selection of bitters. If you enjoy good cocktail or into mixology yourself, gotta visit here.

As someone who doesn't drink much for health reasons but doesn't want to just sit at a bar drinking insanely sugary sodas all night (or just water) this place is perfect. Vena's is an exciting combination of craft cocktail bar, craft/handmade soda bar and mixology shop. I had the opportunity to talk to the owners for a bit, and they were kind and very knowledgeable. This was especially true about their expansive collection of bitters they have for sale, including their own line. They also sell the biggest variety of bar tools that I've seen in similar sized shops. The mocktail/soda line (including classics like "cherry phosphate") makes this a great place to bring kids! We tried two drinks marked "customer favorite" from the cocktail menu, and they did not disappoint! Their cocktails have entertaining names, and paired with their off-beat decor, it shows that they don't take themselves too seriously at Vena's, which is refreshing to see in the hipster-dominated craft cocktail space. Limited "bar snacks" are available, but there is no food menu per say. Check this place out before or after dinner.

Cozy atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and they have handcrafted cocktails. If you like their infusion drinks, ask for an infusion kit, you can take it home or gift it to someone and you can modify it with any kind of alcohol you choose. If you don't drink alcohol that's fine too because they offer infused drinks that are delicious for all ages and if you're looking for a healthy boost they offer an apple cider vinegar and honey tonic called Fire Cider. I highly recommend this place if you're by yourself, with friends, or with family!

We've been coming to this place every time while visiting Portland. Overall, probably a couple dozen of times! Warren, and other bartenders have been creating outstanding cocktails each and every time. But the last time, we were served cocktails by the new bartender, who was extremely slow, emotionless and alost mute. Her cocktails, obviously made according to the same recipes, somehow were tasteless and way below Vena's quality standards... Extremely disappointed with the fact that our favorite cocktail place did such an inadequate job hiring a subpar staff. Hopefully, this was just a single episode.

Great place for drink with your friends who don't drink alcohol. While some drinks require a more adventurous appetit (even without the booze) there is plenty of exploration to be had here. Ad on top of it a knowable staff that will help you pick your next drink you have a winning combination. I would recommend going at happy hour. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks were great. I ordered a Fizz drink with alcohol, but could not tell that there was alcohol in it. Would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for the lack of alcohol in my drink and the slow service time.

I don’t recommend their version of a Moscow Mule. It was so beyond spicy I couldn’t even finish it! But a lot of the fruity drinks were good, but like I said, very strong flavor.

Cannot recommend this place enough. We make a stop here every time we visit Portland. Their overwhelming enthusiasm and knowledge for mixology is contagious. They also make the best Manhattan I’ve ever tasted. If you like all of the whimsy of mixed drinks, this place is a must.

Cocktails were great and served pretty promptly. The prominence of non-alcoholic options was very welcome too! I especially liked the very unique pine syrup used in the Lumbersexual. Their shop near the entrance was very well stock with common and not so easy to find bitters, which was great. But, our spirits were dampened as we were rushed out by our server before everyone in our group had even finished their drinks. This was especially off-putting considering there weren't people waiting for tables or anything (and the table next to us was empty)! Soured what was otherwise a great experience.

Excellent cocktails and service! The bartender made us an extra drink on the house when we had trouble deciding upon which drink to order from their amazing cocktail menu. Everything to recreate the drinks can be purchased from their retail shop that you walk through to get to the bar area.

OMG! This is the bar to go to. It is a diamond in the rough. The staff is so great. They are so knowledgeable and helpful. They have a large selection of cocktails and mocktails. Andy was the best. If he is there ask for the "Let's Have a Kiki" it was amazing. All their cocktails are great and you can get their mocktails with booze. Recommend the BlackBerry Coconut with Rum. PS the cotton candy drink is the Fluffy Fizz! It was great!

Wow, am I glad we walked into this place. The shop is Great, and the actual bar was phenomenal. The drink menu on its own deserves a 5 star rating and add in the bartenders enthusiasm and knowledge and it really gives you a feeling unlike any other. If you live in the area and haven't gone, I highly recommend it, and I suspect you'll want to go back like I do.

I will come back here, when we move here, I will always come back here. I've been a bartender for six years and I've never had a better bar experience. If you go during the week you get special attention and possibly off menu cocktails. Saturday is a different beast but still incredible service, delicious drinks, and a great time.
