This Restaurant is included in the category of Indian restaurant.
Excellent food, great martinis, and a lovely ambiance. Service is excellent.
Best Indian I've ever had. A complete jewel of a place!
I loved the buffet time. Their chicken biryani was awesome and yummy.
Best Inidan ever, visit every time we visit the seacoast!
This is another of my favorite spots in Kittery. I love Indian food, and this is one of the best I've ever had. Reasonably priced, It's my wife's favorite place to get take-out.
Awesome food. Anyone from India would love the Indian spicy level food here.
Fast serving. Food is tasty and good quality. Good for quick bite. Expensive. But the food they serve was normally more in quantity as compared to other nearby indian restaurents
Limited menu, but the chef knows his food. Really great food. It had been a very long time that I had such good food. Me and my friends wipe cleaned our plates. If you are in the area, I would recommend a visit to this restaurant. 4 stars it for the reason that they have a very small menu and nothing else.
Best Indian food outside of London and then it would be hard to say which is better. Staff is wonderful.
Decent indian food.
Great service, amazingly yummy food.
The food here is absolutely amazing!!! Haven't found a dish that I don't like yet!
Best Indian around Portsmouth.
Food was very good. Service was poor it's to bad I think they were short staffed or new staff beer and water took for ever. Apps we're done first but we had no water or drinks until we finished the apps
I love their sunday buffet
I've been meaning to review this place since we went! We went as a recommendation from a friend and it was the most delightful experience ever! First, few bites in and we immediately wanted to order the same thing to go! I swear I must've scraped my dishes clean, couldn't help it. Makes you want to go around to each worker and hug and tip them☆ thank you a ton! We cant wait to make it back
Few good dishes amd a menu that has not changed for years. Benefits from being the only Indian restaurant for several miles either way. There are plenty of items that disappoint like Alu Paratha which look and taste like shoe leather but some like yellow dal and goat curry that are awesome.
Great Indian and the Sunday brunch buffet is A-Maine-zing.
Starter was over cooked, and fried to a crisp. Naan bread, not cooked enough and still raw in the middle..curry sauce was thin and lacked flavour. Very disappointed. Waitress was polite and offered to removed items from bill. Another table sent back bread too. Love Indian food, this was just not up to par tonight.
Good food. Can be hot! Friendly folk.
Really delicious food! The staff was extremely friendly and the atmosphere was very comfortable and classy!
Been to this restaurant many times, and it is a great Indian restaurant nearby. Food is delicious particularly goat curry, and you can always ask them to customize your food according to your spice level. If you want to try something different in drinks then try “Curry Manhattan”. On every Sunday, they have buffet. If you are a first-time visitor then you can try the buffet. I personally don't like Mango lassi.
Excellent food, service and nice cozy bar. Family friendly, close to Portsmouth. Sunday buffet is nice and any other to-order portions are filling. Raj-the owner is an excellent chef and a very welcoming and friendly person.
For a quiet time of year, on a Tuesday night, the restaurant was very busy, obviously popular. The food was excellent, however they seemed a little stretched on delivering. My mussels appetizer was tasty, but lukewarm, they'd been sitting a while in the kitchen before hitting my table. I didn't like that the plates were cold, some warming would be nice. After waiting a while for my main, I was informed they were out of what I wanted. Waited a while again for option two, it was again very tasty. This would easily be 4 stars if things ran more smoothly. I'll be back though, great food.
Perfectly spiced with fresh herbs. Every dish amazing.
It's always amazing
I'm a sucker for Indian food but the prices were reasonable here and the quality of the food was great. An added bonus is that they have a rather good craft beer selection
My wife and I just got back from there. Not sure what KN ate or others are complaining about but compared to Shalimar in Portsmouth, the atmosphere was definitely up there; almost a fine dining except they serve Indian :) Price is very comparable to Shalimar while the service was excellent and prompt. As for the food, it was delicious. The naan bread was also done just right, not overly cooked or dry. The chicken dish we had including the appetizer was mouth watering. Unlike one of the Indian restaurant we've been to in Dover, the chicken was very tender. Everything from serving all the way to the end, we felt very important while we enjoyed our dinner. Sure, it may be $16 for a dish but you get quite a bit of serving and I'm not exactly a small guy either. The location is very roomy with large bar area near the entrance. It seems dark at first but you get used to it quickly and the ambiance is very calming. If you have children I would definitely stop by early (they open at 5PM except Mondays). In either case it's worth the money if you want quality Indian experience!
Amazing. My water was never empty since one of the lovely severs filled our water constantly. Lovely people here.
Did not live up to the hype. Heard many good things about this place, but did not like any of my orders. Especially during by Curry Manhattan and the mussels, especially the mussels.
The fried apperizers are not cooked inside properly. The entrees have not taste. I have had better indian food. This place is not even worth 1 star.
Great service and amazing food pretty much sums this place up. We have been going to this restaurant just about since it opened. During that whole time the food has always been amazing. My wife and I are Indian food snobs and this is the only Indian place where we really enjoy the food. On to of that they have worked hard to really get some great people working there. This is easily or favorite place in the Seacoast to eat. It also helps that the owners are great people as well. It is definitely worth the try.
The best Indian on the seacoast, and try the mango martini.
I would not go back. Service while polite was slow and food was just not up to par. The place could also use a good deep cleaning.
Decent enough Indian food for a New England location - prices are reasonable, atmosphere is a bit cramped, service was nice, and parking is a legitimate problem. If you are a local, this will do.
Food was fantastic. We wanted to have good indiam food after the vacation from New Hampshire. We are happy we are able to find this good restaurant. Shrimp Balchow was out of the world. The service was very good. Loved the environment and foof and the service too. Keep it up guys.
Best Indian Food on the Seacoast. Hands down. If you are lucky enough to find yourself there during happy hour, the chicken wings are a gift to your palette.
Overly priced restaurant!! Naan which they serve are too small and not fresh, even the quantity of curry serving is too less. Really disappointed!
I've eaten in Tulsi after placing a reservation hours in advance, and I've ordered Tulsi through "Takeout Guys." Within the small restaurant the décor and feel is awesome. I was constantly looking around at the cool wall hangings and artistic design. The food is amazing, though be cautious if you can handle a little spice! It's not cheap, but it's not ridiculous considering the quality and environment. Oh and I met the owners, theyre great people - not business moguls trying to siphon every dollar they can. Enjoy!
Great food and service...buffet.is awesome
Excellent Sunday lunch buffet!
This is by far the best Indian Dining in the area... by area I mine the entire United States. Authentic Tandoori oven...Yum! 5 stars all day long!!!!!
Just finished our lunch at the Sunday lunch buffet and I’m so satisfied. So many delicious options, Tikka masala was to die for, and my husband raved about every bite of his dessert. Excellent service as well. Very impressed!
5 stars is hard to get in my book, however Tulsi offers enough in a seemingly quiet market to warrant it. I can't often afford their dinners, but they make up for it in other ways. The thali lunch specials will get you full unless you just worked out or normally consume more than 1000 calories per meals. If you really want to gourge yourself on Indian food though, come for the Sunday brunch. In typical New England fashion, they round it all out with a nice selection of craft and local brews and some great service. This place is a regular stop for me when I have the time and hunger for a weekday lunch or a Sunday brunch.
This is an indian restaurant for people who don't know indian food.
Outstanding food. Remarkable service. So worth it
This was a happy accident. We were trying to find a place to eat after shopping at Kittery Outlets and stumbled upon this restaurants. The food was amazing. Some of the best Indian food I've ever had. Wine was delicious and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Good Indian, southern Punjab style. Based upon recommendations from others we thought this was going to be a standout, but it is just acceptable indian food. The staff can be a little curt also.
Unbelievable food! Best Indian cuisine around for sure. Chicken chettinad
Really good Indian cuisine. Good spice, great flavor!
Good food and service.
Atmosphere average, comfortable, but that was about it. American service staff. Limited unimpressive menu. Food and spicing average, requested my dish to be spicy, it was medium at best.
Best place to have Indian food all around new england area
The brunch is delicious and it's a buffet so you can take your time.
Authentic indian food always! Chef Raj is amazing!
The food is marvelous and the salmon truly amazing. The food is very consistent and by far the best Indian food I've had in new England.
I loved the food when I visited last time. As a meat lover C biryani and meat curry was awesome . Definitely worth visiting again in the near future
Hands down the best Indian food I’ve had in all of New England. Definitely worth the prices and you can tell that all of the food is made with care and love. My absolute favorite time to come here is on Sundays. Their Sunday buffet brunch is one thing I participate in every single week. After eating here, I almost get a food high and feel so amazing.
The best Indian food the area! Great Sunday lunch buffet. If you're not early, best to call and get a reservation.
We came for dinner on a monday. The food and cocktails were absolutely fantastic. The service was questionable which is the only reason they didnt get a 5th star from me. The waitress who served us was kind and helpful and even fixed a mistake with my cocktail before bringing it to the table. After our entrees were delivered though she was nowhere to be seen. We were never given more water and werent asked if we'd like refills for the course of the meal which ended up being a bigger issue than in other restaurants because of the spicy nature of the food. We also waited a bit longer than i would have preferred to get the check. The food really shines though! Perfectly seasoned and not too spicy for any of us.
We had buffet here on one Sunday afternoon, taste was better than expected but they charge more default gratuity. (almost 20%)
Everything we had was fantastic! I had to try the Pork Vindaloo, because it's so odd to see pork on an Indian menu, and it's amazing! The vinegar in the sauce really makes it. The Goat Curry was really tasty too.
Good food and ambiance. Nice people. Place can get busy. Check out before you leave if you are in hurry.
Good food
The food was good. The atmosphere was a little crowded; mostly due to this locations popularity. The service was fine. The prices, however, were very high. High enough that it made me question whether the foods quality matched the asking price. And this was for a buffet! Can't imagine what a dinner would cost.
Tulsi is THE BEST Indian restaurant I've ever been to. Freshness of ingredients, and balance of spices (the genius of the chef- Raj), will take you on a culinary taste/mind trip. YUM,YUM,YUM! (Notice how many Indian patrons Tulsi has. This is the real thing.)
Pleasanty surprised by Tulsi. Had a very good Manhattan with Curry infused into it and dinner was excellent! Didn't know what to expect as I've heard a lot about it but it was honestly worth the hype. Looking forward to going back again soon and would highly recommend if you're in the area.
Excellent food, great vibe, nice waitress with great service
If you love Indian food then this place is a must. The food is excellent and the staff attentive, friendly and courteous. The atmosphere is warm and Interior decorating is well done. One of my favorite things is that the to-go containers are environmentally friendly. You won't find styrofoam containers. ✔
Good Sunday buffet. The place was full and the food is very good. It did seem that the kitchen was having a bit of trouble keeping up with keeping the nan stocked.
Great food. Totally would recommend to anyone.
Good food, little expensive. Alright service. Well kept place. Been a regular here because of food and also because it is the decent Indian place in the vicinity.
Authentic Indian food. Best one near UNH so far that I have tried.
I am only rating based on the buffet meal offered on a Sunday. The regular menu was not an option. The buffet lacked many choices (no fish or lamb dishes for example). The food was only moderately seasoned, no options such as a vindaloo for spicy food lovers. There were no condiments such as relishes or pickles. The dishes were all rather tired looking. Also, they add an 18% gratuity, which seems high for a buffet where the only service is filling water glasses and removing plates. I have read many good reviews of Tulsi, and i am sure their ala carte menu must be better, but the buffet was disappointing.
My favorite local Indian place. Very homey, chef-owned.
I have no idea why this place gets good reviews. The food is fine, but also not good. I have tried it twice, and both time asked for spicy food, and both times gotten something that was not spicy at all. Umm, isn't Indian food supposed to be spicy?! No one who works here is Indian. It's more like a yuppy yoga girl crowd. The food is a very lame Americanized version of Indian food and EXPENSIVE. I won't be trying it a third time. If you're looking for authentic Indian food in the area that you can afford, go to Shalimar in Portsmouth. It is a 1,000x better than this fake place.
The food is sooo good. I love the food.
Mary our server was very pleasant. She was also very helpful in explaining the menu options. The ambience is nice and staff in general was courteous. The food was also great.
Food was delicious, staff was great, menu had a good selection, drinks were tasty, but the service was very slow
All the classic dishes served up in a fun environment by welcoming staff.
We love Tulsi. The food is crave- worthy.
A small group of us had the buffet dinner here on New Years and it did not disappoint. The place was crazy busy but the food was kept well stocked, the staff was available to describe the dishes and drinks were always refilled. Plus, the bathroom was very clean and well maintained (especially considering the heavy crowd!). Strange to think about but a well maintained bathroom is, in my opinion, a sign of people who really care.
I love this place. It's great to have an authentic Indian restaurant in Kittery, Maine and it is popular too! My favorite is the Sunday buffet when you can try all sorts of things. They usually have a soup (usually dal), a few different proteins (chicken, goat, etc.), enough veggie dishes for vegetarians to be happy, and lots of naan. My photo shows what a typical plate might look like. As my friend and I say, "It's so Dal-iscious is naan-sense!" :)
Many people had told us we have to try this place. We finally did and it was great. The staff and the food we're excellent!
Biryani is not available. Also goat curry is not available at all times
Authentic Indian cuisine. Delicious!
So happy I went in here after work. They make amazing sauces and heat levels to please all
Always a great experience here. Food is phenomenal and this place is recommended by Indian co-workers. Leigh is the best waitress and just a doll. Drinks are delish as well. Here's a hint that you can thank me for later: order the mussels and then dip naan in the mussels sauce and also pour it on your main dishes... incredible! Last time spent $110 to feed 3 people with drinks and everyone left smiling & content.
Robust flavors with perfectly melded into vegetable and rice pairings
I enjoy Indian cuisine but Tulsi is highly overrated. I've been multiple times at the whim of larger groups and I have never experienced the charms that others have boasted. The food is average but disappointing for the price. Service has ranged from polite but unprepared to rude. I get the feeling that most of Tulsi's popularity from a sense of validation that many yuppified locals experience by being able to tout "global" cuisine. The area has plenty of great places to eat, don't bother with Tulsi, you're not missing anything.
Superb food and service, and great beers on tap.
They label the vegan options on the menu, which makes it really easy to choose what I want. It was absolutely delicious and the value was good, too.
Best Indian food we have found in the area. Sunday buffet is good.
An amazing Indian restaurant! Delicious food, very nice ambiance and good service. We just discovered the restaurant recently while shopping out in Kittery. Food was the closest to authentic taste we get in India. Far best compared to what we had till now. Its an hour drive from where we live but we will definitely visit here frequently.
This restaurant is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. The Indian food is really traditional and they have a great buffet!
Great food .Good serving
Great Indian food! The spinach and onion pakoda was a treat! Very comfortable interiors. However, the place shuts down by 9. So if you're traveling might want go there before 9.
Excellent food, attentive service, reasonable prices.
Absolutely amazing experience! The staff is very attentive and kind and very willing to explain menu items or answer questions. My friend and I were in town for a week and we went back two nights in a row. I wish this restaurant was back in my city! Definitely give this place a try. You will be impressed!
Yummy and excellent service
Very good restaurant.. 6 mins detour on the way to Acadia from NJ.. awesome food .. great service.. goat curry is the best .. meat was very fresh ..
Excellent food & service !!
Great food and service!
Best Indian food in the Northeast!
Down to earth & friendly staff. Dimly lit and relaxed atmosphere. Excellent flaky breads and entrees highly flavorful though oversalted. Servings are a little small and prices high.
I am really giving this 5 stars. I can't believe the best Tikka masala is here even though I am from the Boston area.
Great food for dine in or take out!
Best Indian food in Maine. Staff is always great. Good drink selection.
It took them more an hour just to get a roti. Onion pakora more like hard onion pancake .
By far the best Indian place I've been to in the seacoast area
Delicious Indian food, authentic Indian taste and great staff. Its a little conjusted though and tends to get very busy during the weekends.
One of the worst Indian restaurants I've tried. Food is filled with small bones with unbalanced flavor and seems overcooked. Won't bother trying this again.
I was more than pleased with the Thali platter I ordered at the bar. Server was pleasant and accommodating. I highly recommend this place for savoring authentic Indian flavors!
Drive from Somerville Mass for Tulsi...And my roommate and I aren't the only ones! Incredibly delicious food, excellent friendly service, fab apps great wine.
tried their $15 buffet today and was so disappointed to be mislead by all the positive reviews here - the only explanation is the other reviewers haven't eaten at a good indian restaurant or its just the buffet that was pathetic. ALL the buffet dishes here lacked depth and were all greasy or watery. to make it worse, with only 8 items in their buffet including rice and Indian bread and just a single dessert, there was no hope of a saving grace in these limited options. it is a TERRIBLE value at $15 (for the same price, u get 5 star service And heavenly food at Madras Grill MA where u get a real indian buffet of 20 items). Finally, service was barely average but that didn't stop them including an 18% tip in the bill (don't know if that's a Maine thing though). the only thing going for it is its interesting decor, quiet neighborhood, and small crowd (which is not surprising).
Awesome food service and atmosphere
The best food ever I took a 7hr drive just to eat here! My birthday dinner
I feell as if I got ripped off. I ordered the tandoori chicken which was descibed on the menu as half a cornish hen. Possibly I have misunderstood the anatomical properties of a hen, but alll I got was a drumstick and a breast (and being a cornish hen, this was maybe a few bites worth). No wing? No thigh? It was an appetizer portion for $18.50. Sad.
Very good food, nice staff.
Excellent Indian food, and they properly know their spice! Good peshwari naan too.
It was good food and management is so good.. im thnkful to Mr. Raj..
The food was decent but I can think of 2 other Indian restaurants in the area that are better off the top of my head. Very overpriced.
Small place but nice and have a good ambiance inside. Have a good price for the food. Staff were friendly and very accomodating... We ordered lamb and goat curry. It was delicious and spicy..
So so so good!!!
I had a wonderful experience here last night. I love the ambiance and the service was great. Food was delicious, of course. Highly recommend if you are in the area.
Good food. Decent ambience. Enjoyed the taste. Limited options in menu. Small quantities
Service/Food can seem slow. It will be delicious, this Indian spot features scratch cooking and it shows. Relax, order more wine or a mango lassi and enjoy the company and ambience.
Awesome environment. Food that your taste buds will get excited about. Great menu. Good drinks. Nice people.
I went to try this restaurant for the first time and apparently they were open for the appropriate listed time. We got to the restaurant and look around... there was a dog outside in the 90 degree heat enjoying the weather(what an awesome pupper). While looking around we saw they were incredibly busy as people showed up to the restaurant when they were actually open for business. As we were about to get back into our car the owner (I think) yelled “do you want to pet my dog?” I won’t ever go to another Indian restaurant because there won’t be such an awesome dog and owner at the same restaurant.
Boti kabob was very good. Chicken tikka masala was perfect! Worth to visit. Better experience than at Indian restaurant in Dover NH...
Great food but best if you make a reservation! Pleasant personnel!
Service was great. Food was fairly bland, as far as Indian food goes. Good beer selection, though.
I've had good meals here 2/3 times. The staff is outgoing and do their jobs. With emphasis, I can't recommend the Pork Vindaloo unless you enjoy chewing bone shards which for me, made for an awful meal.
One of the best Indian Restaurants in New England. The food is always fresh and delicious. Very authentic and not too rich, like some other Indian Restaurants. They offer a buffet on Sundays, which is outstanding.
Good food
By far the best Indian food restaurant I have visited in America! Great food and nice service.
My wife and I both got a lamb curry and they cooked the meat extremely well. Service was excellent. The staff was helpful and friendly. It is a little expensive, but it was worth it from what we experienced
Great place for Indian food. Surprisingly small restaurant quite close to the roadside. However the food is truly great.
Food is good, but their takeout time isn't. I waited over an hour (was told it would be forty minutes) and to be honest, I've had better meals at Shalimar. Also, double check your order before leaving the restaurant so you don't have to drive all the way home before you realize they forgot one of your items. My boyfriend had to return to the restaurant to pick up our forgotten item and by the time he came home, our meals were lukewarm. He also stated that the restaurant wasn't very busy. ETA: I'm deducting a star because their mint paratha, priced at 4.50, is tough like leather and barely has any mint flavor. I honestly don't know if they know what paratha should be like. Extremely subpar for a place that charges more than Shalimar and can't even get simple things right. Suffice to say, Tulsi simply isn't worth the hassle. There are better restaurants in the Foreside to give your business to, and better Indian restaurants in the area (Shalimar in Portsmouth and Jewel in the Crown in Newburyport).
taste is not at all authentic, anyone who know Indian cuisine can easily say this.
Good Indian cuisine...
Good but food is not properly presentation veg & non veg.
Nice place, but the service was slow on a busy night. We order both dishes mild, and they were still served very spicy, with more heat than flavor. If this is your thing, add a star.
Than before the food is so tasty...
Me and my husband stood at the door for 20 minutes while the staff glared at us, I understand restaurants get busy but I felt very disrespected that no one had the decentcy to acknowledge us and maybe put our name on the wait list. We are new to the area and this would be our first time and I was very disappointed.
Excellent buffet.
I went to try this restaurant for the first time and apparently they were closed for a short period in the middle of the day. We got outside to look and there was a dog outside in the 90 degree heat. While looking around we saw they were closed. As we were about to get back in our truck the owner (I think) yelled “do you want to check his papers?” I won’t ever get to try this place because the person inside the restaurant was so rude.
Amazingly delicious food. Wasted almost 30 years never trying this flavorful cuisine. My fiance and I went here and were very happy. Service was amazing.
My girlfriend and I stopped here for dinner on our way to New Hampshire. The food here was authentic and tasted amazing. The garlic naan was freshly prepared and paired great with the Chicken Tikka Masala.
Anytime we go to Tulsi's, we leave happy. Consistently delicious - never disappointing. The naan is perfection, rice the best ever ( there's a little 'spice' in it that makes it unique - I want to know what it is! )
The best - savory, aromatic, carefully prepared, dishes from around the Subcontinent. Highly recommend.
I love tulsi's. The food is so delicious and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.
Tulsi is the place to go for genuine and super tasty Indian cuisine. It is not the place to go if you just made a resolution to eat less! So go to Tulsi, forget about the silly resolution to eat less and eat well.
One of the absolute best Indian restaurants around. Call ahead, and make a reservation, as this place fills up fast. I took my friend from France here, and his jaw dropped. The next time he brought his girlfriend, but unfortunately they were CLOSED ON MONDAY! So plan ahead, and don't miss out!
Tasty Indian dishes, bring your credit card though. Show up before the rush and you won’t have to hang around the bar waiting on a seat or table.
Amazing food...nice atmosphere...good people
I have eaten at Tulsi several times and the food is absolutely amazing! Words can't describe the tandoori salmon or for that matter...all the items on the menu are great. A wonderful wine selection and great staff make this a must eat locatoon. When I first went there with friends about 3 years ago. ...I had never tried Indian food. I was with some friends who knew the owner and although an extremely busy Saturday night, he took 5 minutes out of his very busy kitchen to sit, speak with me, find out what I liked and have it prepared for for me... Now thats what I call service :-) You will not be disappointed
No tasty food, zero spicy. Disappointed.
