Breads were good. Service was GREAT! Unfortunately everything else BAD. The curries were all bad-no taste. Biryani was ridiculous hodgepodge of stuff. Thali was a joke. I gave the 3 stars mostly for their service. There was only one person managing the front of the house but still managed to do it well all with a smile. Unfortunately not enough for me to come back here to eat food though.

They know how to make it spicy, but everything we ordered was sub-par. Had it about a year ago and it was great, not sure if it changed owners or if they’re just going through kitchen help?

Authentic Indian food, if feeling adventurous tell them to make the food Indian level spicy :)

Nice..close to Indian taste.

Very good customer service

Nice jewelry and trinkets for sale too

I will not order food from here ever again. We got two dinner specials, naan bread, samosas, and a dessert and it was just horrible. It cost $50 so we expected a lot of food but we're very let down. We got two small samosas, one piece of naan bread, one container of over cooked rice, and two small containers of "dinner" that were more then 90% sauce. The dinners didn't even taste good and we're very watered down. The naan was stale and burnt and the "fried cheese" dessert tasted like a rice patty. Super disappointed in this place...I don't know how they are still in business.

Meh

Ordered chicken kadai and tandoori shrimp masala ... Both the curries tasted same.... The fourteen dollar dish of shrimp curry had only five piece of shrimp in it ... Taste of both the curries was horrible ...

Always enjoy the food

Great food at good prices and very friendly staff. I only wish I had saved room for dessert!

Flavorful food and great staff. Also has nice ambience that invites you in. My FAV restaurant to dine at whenever I’m in Portland!!

It's a small cozy place downtown. Great food and service. Good prices. Try their Chai tea, it's excellent.

Great restaurant. The service was excellent. Very friendly staff. The lamb was tender. Warning: this is not your normal spice. The vindaloo nearly melted my face off. I loved it! My wife said the medium spicy kabob was just the right amount of hot.

There should be a minimum quality requirement before you open a restaurant. Who puts broccoli, carrots, peas, nuts, veggies in chicken or lamb biryani. It's a veggie rice not biryani. Indian food is not that hard to cook. Sad the food is....

Don't even know where to begin. We ordered lamb biryani to take out after 3 days of eating none Indian food on our trip to Portland and we searched for an Indian place and Tandoor came up with reasonable rating and we ordered lamb biryani from the menu to take out. when they asked me if I wanted vegetables in my biryani, I should have known. This place is a disgrace to even say it's an Indian restaurant. For a lamb biryani, looks like they added some sauce, tons of butter and a couple of pieces of lamb. It's a shame!!! If you want to try Indian food, do not ever go to this place.

They are a really nice family run place. The food is very good, the lunch specials are very reasonably priced, and I always feel like the value for my money is excellent.

Excellent hospitality and wonderful food!!! Thank you!!

Wow! It is very delisious, I like the food the place all.. everything was in shape. The real authentic Indian food!

Lovely indian restaurant. Food was great. Had the chicken curry. Fast service and great Mango Lassi.

Eh! This is so pseudo indian. Skip it

One of the best Indian restaurants I've ever been! Original flavors, fresh food, beautiful place and very friendly service! Next time I will visit Portland it will be my first choice! Thanks!

Some of the best Indian food I've had hands down. Great service, atmosphere and super friendly owner. Very good portions and prices as well!

This restaurant is right across the street from my office, so I eat there frequently. They have some of the best Indian food I've eaten anywhere. And they're nice people too.

Worst place ever visited. I don’t think owner knows what is chicken biryan. Went with much hunger and came back with vomting sensation. Waste of money and time. They just want to make money without any goal and goodwill.

Lowkey location for a chicken curry & garlic naan.

It's competitor is $3 cheaper for the same type of meals offered here. Tastes good, just don't know why it has to be pricer. $15 +tax here for butter chicken.

I'm a South African Indian guy who grew up eating curry and rice, been in the states for 2 years and haven't found a place that quite hit the spot like tandoor restaurant. It brought a smile to my face and a tear to my eye because It reminded me of home so much. Definitely a must check out place. Broad menu for an aromatic authentic Indian experience as you enter the door. Big ups

Fabulous flavors!

Courteous and professional staff. The food is superb. Try anything lamb.

An Indian restaurant with friendly service. However, the food was at best average and chicken looked undercooked. The location is perfect and in the center.

We ordered biryani.. It tasted nothing but hot.. No other taste. Very bad service

Very pleasantly surprised with my meal! Haven't been in a few years and don't remember being super impressed, but this visit was great. Awesome service and the naan was probably the best I've had.

Great food!

Awesome lunch specials, great spot to get really tasty Indian food.

I've been there several times. Food was always delicious, and staff was friendly and fast. I know that people loves to complains, so I dont understand, what is their problem.

Awesome foo and great service. Highly recommend the lamb curry.

Biryani varieties are very foul smelling. Never try biryani here. Other food items are decent

Really great food, we had a variety of curries and they were all great. We'll go back

Not friendly. When asked spicy, all I could taste is chilli powder. Good for Americans who wants a gist of how Indian food looks, but not for the folks who lived or likes true Indian flavors.

AMAZING Indian food. The lamb vindaloo is exquisite. Highly recommend.

Very bad food not authentic Indian food

Bad food quality and expensive comparec to the food

Best Indian food in Portland. Owners are super nice and food is delicious and brings me back for more.

Food isn't Indian at all. Maybe for Indians who've lived here for 20 years. Visitors can skip this place

Fantastic butter chicken. And great service.

FANTASTIC! The food was made quickly with no sacrifice to food at all. The atmosphere and decor were great, detailed and well thought out. The staff was friendly, helpful and well organized. I very much recommend it!

Pretty good, tasty

Went there and they close but online it’s not saying it’s close. They picked up phone and said open

Yummy flavors Cozy interior and friendly service. The kulfi was exquisite

Amazing service and great tasting food. We ordered the non vegetarian thali and it came with soup and choices of curry. Curry was packed with a lot of flavor and our waiter was kind enough to swap the dessert for our choice. Will definitely recommend for others who wants to try indian food in the town. Q

Nothing too special. Food was a little bland. I may go back a few months down the road & see if it's changed.

First visited in 2004 and try to get back whenever I can. Excellent on every level!

I've had Indian food at some at some of the top places in New York City and London, and Tandoor ranks among the best. Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan and a cup of Masala Tea, you can't go wrong!

We have been going to Tandoor for well over a decade and continue to love the food, the welcoming service, and the family who runs the restaurant who are always gracious and kind. The food is consistently delicious - aromatic, spicy, comforting - it is our home-away-from-home place to eat even with all the other wonderful options in Portland. The youngest member of our family said, "You should really give it 6 stars. 6 out of 5!" We recommend it highly.

Food was okay but expensive for the quality.

Great atmosphere, great Indian good

I had a horrible experience. The tandoor oven was not hot yet and the naan came fried in a pan, a messy dough... The chicken curry had precooked chunks, foul tasting. Sauce was a cheap version. I guess prison inmates in India get better food. An embarrassment to Portland and Indian cuisine!

Tandoor is one of my favorite places to get dinner from in Portland! The prices are decent and they make it real spicy (if you ask, of course). My go to is starting with the Coconut Naan that tastes more like a desert bread. The Garlic Naan is phenomenal also and is more savory. My favorite dish here is hands down the Navratan Korma. Thank you for making such delicious and Ayurvedic friendly food, Tandoor!

I have ordered aalu paratha and paneer pakoda but the food is test less, in aalu paratha there's no pateto and paneer is test lessay and bitter in test I have very bad experience having these food from tandoor I have ordered from Taj that was the excellent...

Food poisoning

Restaurante indiano ótimo, atendimento simpático e com preço justo. Comida muito bem preparada. Ótima localização com estacionamento fácil para o carro nos arredores.

No Surprises. Solid Dining Experience. Visited at lunchtime. Authentic Indian decor and aromas. Browsed the menu. Nothing surprising. Standard western Indian fair. Had lamb curry lunch (medium spiciness), which came with basmati rice. Ordered a chapati on the side. Curry sauce was great, good texture, flavor and just the right amount of spiciness. Rice was well cooked, light and fluffy. Chapati a little disappointing. Not entirely fresh and flaky like it should be. Condiments (standard tamarind and mint chutneys, tomato and onion relish) were all fresh and tasty. Service was friendly and efficient, and prices reasonable.

Wonderful in every way! Knowledgeable and informative server and varied flavors in perfectly seasoned dishes surrounded in tasteful traditional decor. Comfortable seating and atmosphere that permits people-watching of the passers by on the street outside in the Old Port.

My review is solely on the visit to the front door. This is because we were turned away at 9 PM saying that they do only take away at this hour of the day (since they close at 9:30). Now, I am not going to question an establishment's policies about timing. However, I will question it when the Google listing says it is open till 10 PM. Upon politely telling the young kid (staff) that they should look into the timings on Google and ensure that it gets fixed to avoid losing more customers, he openly showed that he didn't care and said "it is not my problem what is written on Google". When we said that he may not care, but the owner of the establishment might, he says that the owner (a lady apparently) doesn't care about this either (which kind of translated to that she doesn't care about losing customers). I don't know how many people give any heed to these reviews and have no idea if the owner ever reads this. But, this is my experience just at the front door (yes, the guy didn't even let us in).

Love the food here!! A little pricey, but the food is worth it. Great quality and taste!

Some of the best Indian food in Portland, truly authentic!

Relaxing, casual atmosphere with fun Indian decor. My wife and I ordered a platter of mixed meats including different chickens and lamb along with Naan. We both enjoyed the moist, tender bites. I would have liked to have a sauce (curry) to dip my bread in along with the rice. I made due with the tasty relishes provided on the table. My wife appreciated that the food wasn't automatically spicy when we didn't specify the spice level beforehand. Our server met our needs and was attentive and pleasant. While I enjoyed our meal, I need to go back to try their other great smelling dishes to get a more thorough experience.

I had an amazing meal and the service was great. I very much enjoy the aesthetics of the place too.

So good and everyone is so nice!

Yes! My favorite indian place in town and located in a perfect spot to go put for drinks after.

Excellent service and great food! The staff was prepared to close, but remained open so that my wife and I could enjoy our second anniversary. Thank you.

Great atmosphere with good service. You'll forget all about that when the food is served. It's incredibly tasty and filling. I would recommend this place to anyone, best Indian food I've ever had

My favorite spot in Portland for Indian food!

Favorite Portland Indian restaurant!

It was really upsetting, if you don't have a reservation then they won't let you have dinner here. Me and my family waited for a table of 15 for more than 20 mins, and we were asked to leave the restaurant knowing the fact that we have kids . It was so mean and disrespectful. I’ve never experienced this before.

Excellent service , good ambiance, food quality and taste needs to improve

Best Indian food in Portland! Omret (I hope I spelled that right) was our server both times and was great!

Poorly run business with mediocre food and atmosphere. Took my girlfriend here for dinner as it was her "favorite" Indian place in Portland. Food was middling but not spectacular and the ambiance was jarring due to pounding upstairs (at 7pm on a Friday?). Without what transpired next I would have given Tandoor 3 stars. My check was mistakenly swapped with the table next to mine and I was under charged. No biggie. I pointed it out and it was remedied but I asked for extra receipts just in case, tipped 20% and left. After checking my bank statement 5 days later I noticed there was two charges from Tandoor where there should have been only one. The incorrect charge and credit were there, so that was all set. Problem was the initial charge for my bill was still there as well as the charge for bill + tip. I contacted the restaurant and spoke with our server who also happened to be the manager. He said he was sorry, and would look into it and call me back either way. No call back. Charges still there a few days later. Multiple attempted calls, voice messages, and even a trip a down to Tandoor with bank statements and receipts in hand led to no resolution. My bank is reversing the charges for me. I'll have to make a special trip down to the bank to get the fraud forms notarized further inconveniencing me for a mediocre meal. What a pain. Even if this had been the best Indian food I'd ever had this type of terrible business practice would warrant never giving them another dollar of my money. Plenty of other choices in town. Skip Tandoor.

All frozen food very bad currys and rude attitude staff. Never go there. We had very bad experience.

Good food at fair prices, friendly service, nice atmosphere.
