REVIEWS OF Scales IN Maine

Amy Hranicky

Wonderful food and great service! When we arrived for our reservation gave us the option to sit inside or on the patio. Glad we chose the patio as it was a perfect summer evening. Service was excellent and they even put a birthday card on the table for my husband. I had mentioned we were celebrating when I made the reservation. It was a nice touch. Food was incredible! Fresh oysters, tuna credo for appetizers and seafood stew and scallops for entrees. Food arrived in a timely manne, was piping hot and beautifully presented. Server was friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back.

Tom Nemitz

Unbelievable meal. Great scallops, halibut and Hasselbeck potato. Service was great, deck setting was great. Worth every penny. Highly recommend.

Igmar Uy

Discreet restaurant. Very unassuming location. Seemed hidden. Feels like geared for the few but for everyone. Great food! We were looking for a grilled swordfish and they were only one of the few that offered it. Try it. Pricey but it is worth it... food and service!!

Christopher Sodano

Tried their sister restaurant, street & co. a few months ago. It was wonderful! Had dinner at Scales last night and it was even more amazing. Grilled octopus was terrific, and pan seared scallops were amazing! Wait was about 40 min as a walk-in, but that’s what the bar area is for.

Richard Vandenberg

Great food, excellent service, will definitely go back!

Jeanne Heil

I can't say enough good things about Scales. The Goldenrye is a unique, balanced cocktail with a cinnamon note. The seafood is all the perfect texture, and the chocolate pave (and decaf cappuccino) make a luxurious and memorable end to the meal. (Free valet is a nice perk.)

Suchin Ratanasiriwilai

All dishes are very good. Grilled squid, steamer clams, seared scallop and lobster are very special. Service is excellent. Wine list is amazing and reasonably priced. Really enjoy the dinner!!!

Doug Barker

Fabulous food and atmosphere, definitely worth the wait.

Sean McCloy

A truly outstanding seafood restaurant in a city full of outstanding seafood restaurants. As I would expect from the chef, everything was top-notch. Wonderful Decor, friendly and very knowledgeable staff. We were especially impressed with how the staff double-checked on sugar and gluten content in some of the dishes.

Christopher John

Everything was perfect from beginning to end. Salads were the perfect portion, our entrees came out correctly and hot. They were the best prepared seafood dishes that we've ever had. The fish was extremely fresh and cooked perfectly. We shared both dishes and Will absolutely be coming back to try more of the amazing menu. Highly recommended for anyone in town looking for a great seafood dinner. You will not be disappointed

Joseph Gaudet

Happy hour oysters were inexpensive, and top-notch. Drinks were well curated, and the atmosphere was warm and open

Joseph Urbinati

Solid all around. The grilled octopus and the halibut was were the highlights of our meals. The bread and salmon were just a bit too soaked in butter.

Per Rigler

I spent one week in Portland during a business trip. This restaurant is my overall favorite. It is a superb fish restaurant with sublime oysters, lobsters as well as various extremely tasty fish dishes. The atmosphere is very inviting and cosy and service is attentative, fast and professional. A must when visiting Portland!

John Johnson

Don't bother with the scallops if you enjoy the flavor of scallops over bacon/pork belly. If you are used to West coast oysters you maybe surprised by the added salt and bland cocktail sauce. The 2016 Washington Merlot is awesome. The star of the day was the Scallops Cevechi & their sour dough bread. We would recommend this place when you have $$$ to spend for atmosphere and valet.

Marius Caramiciu

Went there on Saturday and made the mistake of getting ther about 15 minutes after they opened. We stayed at the bar and had some oysters and wine. The three stars are because we had to wait quite a bit to be served and when we mentioned that we waited for a while, one of the bartenders said that they were too busy ...There were only 15 people in the restaurant.!!! Rude, stuck up bar help will not help ratings...training will! Otherwise, the place is cool and the oysters were nothing unusual. We will go there again...but not at the bar

Sarah Goll Carlson

We had a wonderful evening at Scales. Make a reservation before hand so you don’t have to wait. They have complimentary vallet parking which is nice as there is limited parking near the restaurant. We were seated immediately and greeted by our server Katie. We have never been to Maine before and don’t know the first thing about seafood, and she was extremely helpful with making our food selections, and chose 2 amazing wines to accompany our dinner. She was very friendly and gave us great recommendations on various activities to do in Portland! If you go definitely ask for Katie! The food itself was phenomenal, especially the desserts. Everything was delicious and I definitely recommend checking this place out! Be prepared to spend some money, as this place isn’t the cheapest. Well worth the spend though!

Abhirup Mukherjee

An absolutely stunning experience. Everything from the ambience, to the service, to the drinks and finally the food was utterly delightful. One of the best dining experiences in the world, not just in Portland if you're a fan of seafood. Personal recommendations would be the nitro milk stout from the local fore river brewing company based out of South Portland, the pan fried lobster, the scallops and the grilled swordfish. Thank you so much for having us and we'll be back soon!

Josh Beer

Food good but they need to figure out a better way to accommodate the numbers of people. A messy and stressed process

Rachel Gutekunst

I love sitting at the bar and getting too many oysters. The bar staff are efficient and friendly. Donny is a fav. I look forward to eating too much seafood and pairing it with amazing wine soon!

Clarke Giltner

Great fresh food! Server Ben was a delight. Mussels were savory and fresh. Brown bread sweet and moist. Atmosphere was bright and inviting. We always know we are in for a treat at Scales no matter what we order.

Daniel Doucette

One of my favorite restaurants in Portland. Great food and fun bar.

Candice Finley

Bathroom floor was littered with hand towels. Tyra at the bar was rude and what she provided barely qualified as service. Go on a week night. I’m sure it’s a lovely experience then

Max Leutermann

My wife and I went here on the recommendation of a bar tender at our hotel...we were not disappointed! The free valet, excellent food, great ambiance, and bubbly service made this an amazing night. This restaurant reminds me of Charleston, if you’re looking for great food and a fun atmosphere, I recommend stopping by.

Linda McLoon

Fine food, but a bit on the overly sauced side.

Valeria Palmieri

Amazing location, atmosphere, staff and most importantly, FOOD! Save your pennies, its not cheap, but it is well worth it!

Bridget Bushey

This is such an amazing restaurant. The food was astounding! And our server, Tom, was incredibly polite and extremely helpful. We are on vacation and they made our experience that much better. Going back tomorrow night!

Lori Flynn

Scales is one of are favorite dining spots in Portland. The culinary experience is extraordinary. Each bite, a flavor explosion to your pallet. Try the endive salad, squid, or scallops. You won't be disappointed.

erik ventura

this establishment was basically perfect. from the decor to the service and yes the food. I don't have a single complaint to make. everything was cooked perfectly and as expected very fresh. starting with the oysters, then the best most flavorful clam chowder i have ever had. followed by the perfectly cooked octopus and scallops. everything was top notch, and i cant wait to go back!

James O'Shea

We had some hits and misses. The octopus appetizer and lobster stew were great! My wife loved her scallop dish. However the fish sandwich was very bland and overly breaded and the dessert was lacking as well.

Augusta McCain

Delicious food and friendly bartenders.

Inez Dudley

Good food. Very noisy

Terry Toraason

Outstanding service. Great meal and ultra fresh seafood

Diana Aguilar

Very good seafood.

Marissa Love

Had my own private lobsterfest!

Nelson Imamura

The Food Here is Amazing!

Jonathan Riley

Enjoyed the lobster roll but very little lobster in the roll itself for the price you pay, cmon guys load that thing up! The atmosphere was very nice and good service. Wife wasn’t able to substitute toppings on the fish she ordered but ended up liking the fish. Just not enough food for the price you pay, otherwise I’d have rated this place 5 stars.

Jenny Boo

Food was good, portions were on the smaller side

Abby Baker

I only had oysters and wine but the bartender matched a perfect wine with the oysters and the gentleman who shucked them did it right in front of me and explained which was which. It was an excellent experience.

Jeremy Packer

First trip to Maine, so of course we need to try the Maine Lobstah. Best seafood I’ve had. Staff was attentive and food feels and smells fresh. Restaurant is a bit loud, but worth the sound for the taste.

Yvette Dilallo

Love the Chef's Style of creating food that you can't forget. Duck Pate like heaven. Fresh Seafood and Tantalizing Bar Beverages. Happy Hour like no other's in the Old Port. Fresh shucked in front of you Oysters! Absolutely the Best Seafood on Casco Bay! The Atmosphere in Bright, Open and Exciting.

dalton stolpe

We started off with a bowl of vlam chowder, and the lobster Chowder, which were both the best we've ever had, followed with a nice bottle of wine with mussels and bluefin tuna crudo, and finished with salmon, scallops, and a lobster to split. Absolutely phenomenal food and service worth every minute of the wait. The food made me wish I lived here. 6/5 stars

Brian Best

Top tier raw selections, cocktail service and atmosphere. All I was looking for as an intro to Portland for the weekend.

Ross Watson

Absolutely amazing meal. Everything everyone had was great! My wife said "I think that was the best meal I've ever had". Very expensive but just the best!

Kelly Rice

Three of us were in town on vacation last week for a few days from MA & I had made a reservation several weeks prior for dinner on Saturday night to celebrate our son’s 22nd birthday. He picked the restaurant. When we checked in, we discovered I had made a mistake and the reservation was for the same day but, in September! My son was disappointed & I was embarrassed & felt terrible. They were actually able to accommodate us - on an incredibly busy Saturday night...the last weekend of the summer! We sat in the bar & had delicious cocktails for only about 20 minutes before they seated us at an outdoor table by the water! Our server was top notch & everything we ordered was fresh, creative and delicious. It turned out to be an utterly wonderful evening! Thank you, Scales. We will return.

Mat Yerkes

This was my first time dining at Scales. I went with my dad for my birthday, and let me start with simply saying I was blown away. We started by splitting the steamer clams, which was 1 pound, and to be honest, I wish there was a second pound. They were demolished. For my entree, I ordered the swordfish, and when I did, our server lit up and told us how good she thought it was. She wasn't wrong. I don't believe I've ever had fish cooked as well as this. I do eat quite a bit of seafood too. I finished with the citrus ginger sorbet, which was a perfect way to end the meal. It was the perfect amount, and light after all of the clams and fish I had eaten. I'm going to have to figure out when would be a good time to go back; I would love to try their raw bar. Excellent, excellent place.

CaptTLap

Kaleb was amazing and the food was to die for. They made the wait enjoyable and overall very comfortable.

Leslie Holladay

From visit in July 2018. Phenomenal service (especially Eddie)! We ate at the bar. Awesome fun drinks that weren't weird for the sake of being interesting. Raw squash salad was super fresh, lightly dressed, nice change from regular salad. Fried clams were amazing and tender with a light batter and two sauces both great. Halibut with brown butter had a beautiful crisp top and was cooked perfectly and juicy. And the lemon tart, even better than it looks with fresh currants and hibiscus sorbet. It was fun watching them work the raw bar, mesmerizing, they took such care with every plate. Don't miss this place!

Richard Costa

Good chowder and a decent piece of fish. I'll maybe be back when they fix the beer menu (something I NEVER thought I'd say about a Portland restaurant) and actually include a starch with a $35 meal.

Lauren Woodward

Loved the bar vibe at Happy Hour! Beautiful place too.

Mitchell Myers

Went to dinner with a couple of other couples, and had such a great time. The food was amazing, everything from the appetizers to the meals and ending with delicious desserts. My wife couldn't rave enough about the halibut, and I had an amazing fish stew. The only complaint I can say was I wish there was more.... Next time we're back in Portland, I wouldn't think twice about going back to Scales for dinner.

Kerry B

Best fish I’ve ever had , perfectly cooked with beautiful hazelnuts

Jennifer Cox

Had an amazing meal. Great atmosphere. Our server Benjamin was awesome!! Highly recommended!!!!

Michael Stone

Absolutely delicious food and top notch service.

Chris Gunner

This was my first experience dinning at Scales. Let me tell you from the moment you walk on to the dock through the front doors it was magnificent. We had appertizer from chicken liver Patti to fried soft shell crab. Everything was just fantastic in perfect portions for sharing with the entire table. I ordered the seafood stew and was not let down. The broth was unbelievable great. Dessert was just perfect and balanced. Which was a strawberry cheesecake and sobet. Just can't wait to dine again and provide some more pictures of a perfect meal and atmosphere.

Scott Brown

Huge disappointment! worst meal in Portland by far. Our table pretty much ordered the entire menu which was very aggressively priced but the description of the items on the menu sounded very appealing. Let me preface this by saying I love salt but every item was so salty nobody finish what they ordered and you could not taste any real flavor. We scooped spoonfuls of salt out of the muscles and made a pile on a side dish, Yuck! Our curly blond waitress with lots of tattoos who was originally very friendly ignored us for the rest of the night after alerting her. After shelling out several hundred dollars and leaving hungry we went across the street for mediocre pizza and a huge drink to counter act the salt which ended up being the highlight of the evening. We did not see any form of management on the floor or we would have certainly alerted them in hopes of correcting it. In short, bad service, bad food, acceptable but loud atmosphere, overall not a good value as I have had much better food and service in Portland for far less.

Marilyn Potter

Excellent food and service.

Aidan MacDonald

Get atmosphere, exceptional service, even better food, 10/10 every time.

Clo Jet

Best seafood - from the muscles, to the lobster chowder to the lobster roll. Don’t even get me started on their desserts.

Mark LoGiurato

Very good restaurant for seafood! The food is fresh and tasty. The cocktails and wine are fabulous too! The staff is very friendly and accommodating offering terrific service. The space is large but is well decorated. Make reservations way in advance.

She'ona Ransom

Can't wait to go back!

Jed Nickerson

Plates of decadance, elevated service staff, an experience not to be missed!

Nate

Scales was great. The service was interesting and polite, the food was fresh and delicious and and the atmosphere was excellent. It was a hidden little place but inside it was huge and nice. Highly, highly recommend Scales.

Timber Laporte

Best cooked seafood I've had. Unimaginably delicious flavor combinations in every dish we ate. I recommend making a reservation if you have an issue with sitting at the bar.

Joe Gleason

The food is incredible. Worth a visit.

Rie B

One of the best birthday meals!! Everything was just perfect and you can see why the huge restaurant is jam-packed on a Tuesday night. I had one of the best lobsters here, cooked perfectly. Service was top notch as well, can't recommend highly enough.

Ted Loeffler

Outstanding seafood in an exceptional space. Plan ahead. Reservations recommended but a few tables are available for walk-ins.

Daniël

I've had several dinners here over the past couple of months, both business and personal, and they've been phenomenal every time. It's a boisterous atmosphere, but with great service and the food quality is fantastic. Try the halibut... it's by far the best fish dish I've had.

Jude Cross

Great food great service.

Joe Allen

Some of the best seafood I have ever eaten.

Alexander Kontoleon

No exaggeration this is not only one of the very best meals I've had in Portland, but one of the best seafood meals I have ever had. The food was spectacular. It's easy for hyperbole to creep into reviews but this place is just great from start to finish. The lobster chowder was so flavorful and not overly creamy or goopy. The fried squid and cherry peppers were crisp and seasoned right. Share a half dozen plump perfectly briny oysters with my wife. My steamed lobster was so sweet and delicious I was tempted to order a second. The dessert was a chocolate marquee, so good. The wine list is varied and well selected. Our server was super friendly and knowledgeable. I will be coming back to this place everytime I visit Portland. I would give this spot six stars if I could.

Gosh Darn

Noise level unbearable food and service excellent

Alex O

Interesting place. Kind of hidden... the front door was the only sign I saw advertising the place and it looked sketchy. The food was okay. It was a nice place to try but I’m not sure I’d go there again.

Mark Mindorff

very good food ... resoable wait times

lain galion

Shockingly great food and the prices to match. Everyone in our party of eight throughly enjoyed their meal. My favorite dish of the night was the mussels appetizer. The sauce really made the dish and portions were fairly large. The hostess was a bit cold but our waitress was sweet. The dining area is impressive with tall ceiling and a beautiful floor to ceiling window which spans across the entire space. It was also fun taking a look at at the live ingredients on full display.

rosetta clipper

The service was great, we enjoyed every minute, the food was excellent. See you in May.

Philip McKay

I think it’s Portland’s finest eatery

Chris Hamblett

Loved it. My wife and I showed up for our 20th anniversary without a reservation. They were so busy I wasn't sure if we would get a seat. They were very accommodating and had us hang out in the lounge area to wait for a table. After just a few minutes we were given the option of being seated at the bar or continue waiting for a table. We reluctantly chose the bar seating which ended up being a huge positive for us. The bar tenders are full on waiters as well as helping the kitchen staff prepare a lot of the cold appetizers. They were all very friendly and talkative. We had the best meal we had experienced in quite a long time both from a taste standpoint and a social standpoint.

Brittany Cole

Impeccable service, beautiful dining spot, the food is on point! I send a a lot of tourists here. Seafood dishes are

Charlotte McClure

Outstanding clam chowder, great wine menu, the freshest seafood and very good service. Not the most inspiring/exciting menu, but a solid choice for good Maine seafood. Also, the interior design here is beautiful. Normally I choose to sit out on the deck when dining in Portland on a nice day, but the competing music from nearby restaurants and lack of a view made me regret that decision.

C Cole

The best lobster we have had, and we have traveled the Maine coast. The pan roasted lobster was such a wonderful flavor.. and the lobster so tender. Oysters were also amazing. Great service.

Miguel R

Excellent seafood restaurant, the grilled octopus, the stew and the peach raspberry crisp for desert were all great. There were plenty of other good looking dishes as well such as the scallops and the halibut which I got to look at from afar during the 2 hour wait on a busy Saturday night. Minus one star because it was freezing and very uncomfortable inside the restaurant and they sat us at the coldest area in the restaurant. Please turn down the cold air!

Andrew Cloutier

Atmosphere is a must see, food is a must taste, everything else was amazing.

Nicholas Viti

Wonderful fresh seafood and more. Fish on ice and lobster as you come in. Excellent cocktails! The staff are also well aware of gluten issues.

Wayne Andrew

All of our group had great food. Friendly staff and very efficient.

J Vander Schaaf

Very fresh oysters, good wine choices, good dining layout and great views of the water front.

steven brown

Best dinner I've had in maine.

Matt Borsuk

Delicious food. When Fore Street turned us away because of a 45 minute waiting list for the bar. Yes, for the bar. A kind waiter pointed us to Scales, also owned by the same group, and after a short wait it was definitely worth it.

Roman Popov

Very sophisticated cocktails!!! And, of course, great seafood!

Lira Schwab

This a wonderful high-end seafood restaurant. I enjoyed looking at the boats through the windows and talking to the friendly staff. The food is amazing, I had the duck.

Russ Barron

Excellent service, and top notch seafood. The specials are always out of this world - try them no matter what they are! The seafood is obviously the star of the show here, but there's also plenty for those who prefer land-based dinners. The wine list is quite impressive, and reasonably priced. A must try if you're in Portland!

Jason Cheung

I dined at Scales several months ago and had a phenomenal experience. Mussels, scallops, and halibut were all cooked to perfection, and the Baked Alaska dessert was perfectly balanced. All in all, a perfect dinner. I definitely plan to dine at Scales again next time I'm in Portland!

Andrew Schulert

The food was good but not the drinks. Ir was noisy (and busy) on a Saturday night.

Eyal Peled

Food was so good! The mussels and the octopus are must!

Ken Ku

High end seafood restaurant near the water. There is an ice box with fish on display when you first walk in. I am not familiar with fish but perhaps they can also display what the fish on display are and their taste, properties, etc. The halibut fish main course was delicious. The sauce was a bit on the saltier side though. I thought the duck confit Brussels sprouts were a bit oily. I guess some people like it like this? The cornbread and the black bread at the start of the meal were great. I definitely recommend these. Too bad the portions were so small. This is a nice restaurant and it would have been better when the weather is warmer so you can see the water outside. One last thought: I wish the mains were a bit smaller and less expensive. Then I would have had room and budget to try some of the desserts.

Deidra Morris

I was in Maine this past weekend for my birthday and we had dinner here. This place is great. Sandra was our waitress and she's awesome!

Patrick Ronan

Wonderful service and atmosphere. Broiled cod was fantastic

negrotski

Service excellent. Food quite top level but not totally there. Atmosphere is fun but super loud. Also pretty dark where we were in a booth. Would go back.

Vader Batman

The food and the staff was amazing! Its definitely a place to go every time you are in Portland.

Craig Herrick

If you want exceptional seafood in Portland look no further.

Robert Benn

Beautiful atmosphere. I made the mistake of ordering the duck. Probably best to stick with seafood.

trent combs

The place is right on the water wide open space. I'm not a huge fish person but the swordfish I had was amazing. Salmon looked great but didn't try any so.... Cool place would go back for sure

Matthew Tyler

Very, very, good food! But very loud atmosphere!

Candi Rockett

Absolutely loved this restaurant. It has a very cozy atmosphere. We ended up sitting at the bar, where you can order your meal as well. Sam, the bartender, kept track of who was in line so everyone could mingle throughout the crowd. Sitting at the bar allowed us to watch all of the cocktails being made along with a view of some of the meals being made. The cornbread tasted like Jiffy, which I love, but it was the delightful chili butter that made it delicious. Fish in chips were top notch. The cod was so fresh and delicious with their house made tartar sauce and aioli sauce. Definitely recommend! The lady next to me ordered swordfish that looked amazing as well!

Jimmy G

Awesome service and great food but a little pricey. Staff was friendly and attentive. Will definitely go back.

Patrick Harvie

Located on a pier in Portland Harbor, this place has fantastic seafood dishes in an environment that blends sophistication and classic fishing town. While I may not eat oysters, those I was with were in 7th heaven. I highly recommend the grilled lobster.

Erik Johnson

Great food, beer, location, room, service. Busy happy hour.

Brian Parkhurst

It was terrific... Food and service was impressive !!!!

Angela Egan

This was our third time at Scales. The food is soooo delicious and the service is excellent! We will be back next year for sure! We vacation in OOB every August!

John L

Delicious fisherman's stew and great happy people, it's a win!

Bob Stanton

Too much noise and long waits.

Brett McCann

Love the atmosphere and the food.Great local beer on tap.

Guilherme Blumenthal

Perfect experience! Great place, Outstanding food, Amazing Atmosphere, and, above all, Friendly, and Professional Service. Thanks and Two Thumbs Up to Eddie at the bar who helped us!

James Walsh

Overpriced. I ordered the pan roasted lobster, and while it was decently flavored, half of it was fairly uncooked. Not what I would expect for the price.

Michael P

Incredible food and great service... like eating 5 star rated food in a casual setting... I will be back

Paimon Dehghanian

Incredible food. One of my favorite places in Portland

Christopher Pelonzi

That seafood place where you realize you have not been living. Reservations are had to get though. Valet parking is cool though!

Alicia Vitello

Highly recommend! Wait staff was friendly, informative and helpful. Food was DELICIOUS with many unique items on the menu. I would return a million times over!

Faith Curry

Good food, good service.

Killer Rune

All the food is great. Great drinks. Best piece of fish I have ever had. Well worth the price and the wait. A must if your in the portland area.

Brian Francese

Great atmosphere and amazing food. My wife and I had a small meal but the dishes were fantastic. Seared tuna app and the cod dinner. Our waiter was very friendly and the drinks were on point. The bar even had Barr Hill gin which is my favorite!

Laura Hopkinson

Razor clam ceviche was spicy, fresh and super tasty. Bread rolls with chives and butter served in cast iron skillet. Service was impeccable. Atmosphere was fun. Full bar.

Pam Kimmel

Most wonderful oysters and Char!! Awesome restaurant. Can't wait to go back

Chris Gonzales

Fantastic ambiance, great food, and wonderful customer service. Our party of 4 had a 9:45pm reservation on a Sunday and upon arriving we were warmly greeted and seated promptly. We were then greeted by our waitress, who was very pleasant, and proceeded to order drinks followed by food items. Even though we were one of the last tables left in the restaurant, we never felt rushed nor felt the need to leave. Love that and loved the food. Btw, the baked Alaska is awesome!

Pete Grannis

Outstanding scallops and swordfish, and great service. Nice setting but unfortunately it is incredibly loud. Really, it’s loud. Too bad because the food was exceptionally good and deserved better. Would not come again at a busy time.

Ward Tisdale

Great food, atmosphere and service. What more do you want?

Michael Mitchell

This place is amazing! Been several times and each time is fantastic. The Halibut is extraordinary, but so are the scallops and the Haddock . Make reservations early, but you can arrive early for walk in or late after 10p for a table.

Frank Velarde

Beautiful ambience. Great drinks. Amazing views

Brian Rachele

What started off as decent service with fresh oysters went south quickly after our dinner arrived. The guy brought our food out but we told him we asked for lemon vinegrette. He said he double checked and the pink dressing was it. Lied. To. Our. Face. After waiting for the bartender to check on us, we finally flagged someone down and they got all confused about what we wanted. Seriously? Just get us the right dressing. After some excuse about not seeing it then seeing it on the menu, we got our dressing. The guy walked by who lied and commented that at least we didn't die from it. Never going back. But the oysters we're really good. My dinner was good too, but they shouldn't have lied to my fiancee about her dinner, that's not classy.

Kurt Lutz

Our last night in New England and Scales gave us the perfect send off. They shuck the oysters in front of you, the heirloom tomato salad was perfection and I had the lobster entree that was on point. Together that with Don's perfect service and I will never forget this meal. Thank you to the wonderful staff also.

David McAllister

The valet was incompetent, waited 15 mins for him tog St my car while he chatted with everyone

Tim Boklewski

Fabulous dinner from the oysters to the clam chowder to the glorious scallops and finally the banana bread. One of the too meals I have ever had.

Daniel Mercer

Excellent Food but left hungry...super small portion size with an oversized price.

crazy rabbit lady

Stumbled into this place by accident. The wait staff was extremely nice and prepared. The drinks were terrible. They came up with what can only be described as a college kids prank. Ordered the roasted lobster. Had to scrape off bread crumbs to taste the lobster. If they would of lightened up the amount of bread crumbs it would of been good. The best part was the claws because there wasn't any bread crumbs. Presentation looked good. Price was high for the lack of flavor.

Isaac deLeeuwe

Fantastic food and great servers. Made reservation for wrong day and they accommodate us anyway. Nice view of ferry pier.

Nathon Horton

What a surprise when you walk inside. You'd think you were going into the oldest restaurant on the waterfront from the exterior, but the interior is super modern, high ceilings, extremely open. Menu is heavily focused on seafood both cooked and raw as it should be being right on the water. Beer list was strong with several of the major local breweries represented. Both our meals were very good. Decent sized portions. It's not a cheap place, but worth it for the quality. Would definitely visit again when in the area.

Chris Williamson

Service drinks, and food was outstanding! It's a little noisy but is a great lively space, be sure to make reservations if you can, was very busy on a Sunday night!! Bar seats are fantastic, especially if you order items from the raw bar....

Brenda Chapman

Lobster delicious and great Black bass as well. Service good. The bread with molasses was not to our liking so unless you're a fan of molasses I wouldn't recommend it. After tasting it, we chose not to eat it.

Patricia DenBoer

Great service, wonderful atmosphere, food was exceptional, lobster stew rich and creamy a cup is just enough, fish and chips (moist and tender) Scallops with bacon (moist, tender, sliced easily with a fork like butter with rich flavors). A return visit is in my future

Nacho Garcia

Incredible food loved it

Eric Lewandowski

Very good food and friendly wait staff. We ordered the special for an appetizer, which was some fried Scallops with a Jalapeno Aoile. It's not fair how good it was, just melted in your mouth! We both loved our dinners and even made room for desert. Great atmosphere, and beautiful location. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. I didn't think the prices were high either considering the quality and freshness of ingredients. They have free valet parking as well! Bonus!

Shawn Hentz

All the staff were great, food was excellent. Upscale and relaxed environment.

Brayden apple

The food is incredible! So fresh and so clean clean!

BrewMates

Excellent seafood and exactly what I was hoping for. The roasted lobster is really good with a nice texture from the bread crumbs. The haddock was such a nice surprise and extremely tasty. Steamer clams are a new experience for me and I loved that appetizer. Highly recommend, it is a little pricier than other restaurants close by, but not by much for fresh seafood. The additional 10-15% cost is much worth it for Scales.

msutube11

This restaurant serves an excellent variety of seafood, meats, and beverages. The decor is industrial style, open, with limited outdoor seating-no sea view. The atmosphere is relaxed and suitable for kids. Despite being very busy (no reservations) service was prompt and courteous. As with much of Portland sea front, parking, if you find it, does add to meal costs, ranging from $5-$8 per hour and upwards. Expect to spend at least $50 per head for two courses and drinks. Altogether a very good experience and a price to match.

Tim Hofmann

Fun place for drinks and oysters. Good service.

Great meal. Place is huge. Call if you can't make a reservation. Many tables are left or for walk-ins. My daughter's lobster roll was the best she had ever had. Everything was delicious. Valet parking so handy and free. Would give five star rating except for long hair found in brussel sprouts.

Eduardo Guardia

Very disappointed in my meal tonight. Many great dishes (fried oysters, scallops, fish and chips) but the halibut put out by the kitchen was horrible. The first plate I was served was over cooked and dried out. I let our waitress know it was dry and she sent it to back the dish to the kitchen only to bring out an enormous hunk of undercooked halibut. I was shocked by how bad it was — so raw in parts. When asked, I told our waitress that the second round of halibut was mostly raw but she didn’t address it in any way. We ordered quite a bit of food, dessert and wine and the raw halibut was still on our bill at the end of the night. I won’t be rushing back to Scales.

Courteous staff. Clean, modern, comfortable atmosphere. Delicious gourmet food with beautiful presentation. Worth the extra $$.

So good I traveled from NY to eat here. I would do it again. Maybe the best seafood I have had.
