Excellent food .. Tried twice on our vacation to Acadia National Park
The owner and staff are lovely but they need a new chef. This is some of the worst Indian food we have ever had—and we have had it all over the world. The table next to us agreed—they couldn’t identify their food but it wasn’t what they ordered. Mine had chunks of inedible spices that I almost choked on. I appreciated the fresh veggies and generous size naan, but that was about it. What made things worse is it took forever to get our food! Please get a new chef because you are such nice people and I want you to have tasty food at your new restaurant!
great food... especially momo - they are the best! I ate there every day!!! Good service and friendly people. Highly recommend!
The chicken chowmein was awesome !!!
This is a great restaurant. I honestly think all of the negative reviews are from competitors and are mostly based on price. Yes you are correct, it is a bit pricier than your local Indian Buffet, and if you are used to eating at a buffet, it certainly will be less food. But everything in Bar Harbor is higher. It is a resort town and rents are high. Our food was great! We ordered the Samosa's as an appetizer. We ordered 2 vegetarian dishes for dinner, rice came with each entree, and we ordered two orders of garlic naan. This was more than enough for our family of 5. Total bill was under $50 with a tip. Great service. Great food. Fast and friendly. We will probably come back for another meal here as we are staying in the area for a couple of weeks. Look at the reviews for yourself. All of the 1 stars are from unverified accounts and all of the 4 & 5 stars are from verified accounts and Google Guides.
Delicious Indian food! My chicken curry had an amazing flavor. The naan was well worth the extra three dollars! Would recommend for anyone who needs a little break from seafood in Bar Harbor. Can guarantee you won’t be disappointed
Wow!! This is the Indian food I’ve been waiting for in Bar Harbor! It’ll be hard not to eat here every week!
Overall, the experience was great. We ordered Chicken 65, Chicken Tikka, Chicken Tikka Masala Curry, and some garlic and butter naans. We received our food after around 15 minutes of waiting .The Chicken Tikka was amazing and Chicken 65 was tasty. The naans were very big and puffy and had a good consistency. We expected the Chicken Tikka Masala Curry to be creamy and rich with the intense flavor of tomato. Instead, we got a watery curry, made mostly of crushed tomato and onions. We asked the manager about this and he replaced it with the Butter Chicken, so we could have a creamier curry to go with the naan. The manager was really kind and made sure we got what we wanted and expected. In sum, the restaurant might be expensive, but worth it, considering the location at Bar Harbor.
My husband and I had a beautiful meal at Royal Indian, the portions were large and the food was outstanding. I ordered something off menu, they were very accommodating, and it was delicious. We plan to eat there again. I would highly recommend it!
Food price is high... quantity is very less.Food service poor
THIS PLACE IS THE BOMB DOT COM. After 3 days of lobster lobster lobster all day every day, the vegetarian in our group was getting pretty dang tired of salads. We decided to check this place out and were SO GLAD we did. Great service and even better food! It was so good we came back three straight nights in a row. Basically everything we tried was delicious but our sole vegetarian was obbessed with the jackfruit curry and ordered it every time. Sadly nothing we’ve attempted or tried back home in FL even compares. Also amazing were the lamb curry, lamb saag, and lamb korma (can you tell the non-vegetarians love lamb lol), the daal, and the momo. Thanks for the great food guys!
(Translated by Google) Butter chicken and Momo excellent. Impeccable service. Although we arrived within 45 minutes of closing we were very well received. Reasonably priced compared to other Bar Harbor restaurants. Wifi on the spot. I'm definitely going back. This is not a restaurant where there is atmosphere or decoration but very clean. (Original) Poulet au beurre et Momo excellents. Service impeccable.
Terrible food. Don't know how to make basic indian food like Biryani. The worst biryani I have ever had. The shrimp masala has no flavor. I would Never ever come back here. They have a good space to run the restaurant, they should quit and give the restaurant to someone who can serve some basic quality food than rice mixed with chicken and turmeric and call it indian Biryani.
Wasn't sure what to expect as there were a few "interesting" reviews, but happy to say I had a delightful experience. Food was excellent, service wonderful, despite gentleman (Diwas?) being there by himself to host and serve on a busy night. Could not have asked for a better experience. Nice ambience too. Prices were very reasonable for popular tourist destination. Recommended!
Quite possibly the best India food I’ve ever had! Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The naan bread was big! I’m used to small and ordered 2. We couldn’t finish it or our meals, but boy did we want to. I’m just upset they are not closer to my home. :) I wish them all the best and am sure they will be very successful!
Worst experience ever.
First time at this new restaurant and food was absolutely amazing! I had the Jackfruit Curry which was so flavorful and vegan friendly! Had some garlic Naan with it which we were all fighting over at the table because it was so delicious! For desert we had the Gubi which was like a doughnut in syrup and it was soooo good and we got another thing that was like ice cream and was also the perfect way to end the meal! Service was superb! We are locals and will be back for more!
The food was excellent. The service was prompt. I can't wait until the next time i visit. Im always grateful to have more vegetarian options around town.
This restaurant is more expensive than NY,NY restaurants. Expensive because for the very little quantity the price seems to be hefty. Took Chicken 65 and it was no way near to it . It was pretty basic chicken nuggets served with ketchup. And took lamb vindaloo and was served in little qty in their standard baby kadai’s and took the expensive naan which was awfully thick and uncooked. Chai : no words to describe how bad it was. Save your time and money and avoid this place unless if you badly need Indian food since no Indian restaurant aren’t around Bar Harbor.
Pathetic food. No taste and expensive. The food so unappetizing.
What a wonderful restaurant. Friendly staff. Delicious food. And the biggest serving Naan I have ever had!!!
Some of the best Indian food I have ever had. Very friendly staff
A huge disappointment!!! The worst Indian restaurant I have ever been to. The chef should learn which spices should be used for which preparation! The restaurant opened at 7pm and at 720pm they were out of Samosas. Thank god we dint have the samosa, otherwise it would have been another huge disappointment. I doubt if it’s even an Indian restaurant. Avoid this “Overly priced” restaurant.
Food was uncooked and hardly eatable !!
Disappointingly average experience. We were very excited to see an Indian restaurant in Bar Harbor to complement Serendib in Ellsworth. We had somosas, chana masala and sag paneer. I asked how hot the "hot" was and was told, "really, really hot!" so I ordered medium hot. The somosas were bland with watery condiments; the paneer was bland with NO heat. I asked for some hot sauce, which was barely hot itself: I tasted a half teaspoonful and had minimal reaction when I should have been on fire! The chana masala was similarly under flavored. I really wanted for there to be another Indian restaurant to go to in the area but Royal Indian doesn't fit the bill.
Worst veg biriyani ever had. I understand that it was a long weekend, but that doesn’t mean You can mix some curry and call it a biriyani. Cost is 20$. Pls do not sell like this as I had to wait an hour to get this as to go.I definitely need a refund. Not sure on the ingredients as half cooked white rice also seen
Fantastic food and service!
Quite pricey. The food quantity was good but taste wise average. They should use atleast basmati rice for veg biryani.
Perfect ambience with best service. Loved the Nepali cuisine and its essence, flavor is so rich and authentic.
Mediocre. Small serving size, bland and expensive.
It felt very good to eat Indian and Nepali delicacy at the heart of Bar Harbor. Loved the food, ambience and service; great place to be while in Acadia National Park area.
Yummy dinner. Must say we are very suspicious of previous reviews Ours is a small community and it is very unusual to not recognize 99% of the negative reviewers. Our advice is to disregard previous reviews and see for yourself. We really enjoyed our dinner at Royal Indian and will definitely be back.
It was my first time eating Indian food. The server recommend samosas for appetizer and it was great. Main course was chicken Tikka. The chicken was well marinated and juicy. Will definitely be back
Avant garde restaurant ...beginning from Mango Lassi to Nepali Momo's. Top notch delicacies and awesome customer service.
Very delicious food and the people are very friendly!!!!
We got the butter chicken and curry chicken, both came with basmati rice. Added naan breads to each for about $3/dish. Well flavored; got spicy since a previous tip informed us that the medium was not spicy but rather bland. The heat was perfect. The naan breads were crispy on the oven side and flaky/doughy on the other. It was a lovely contrast of texture for dipping into curries and other sauces. I would have loved to try their biryanis. Perhaps next time.
Must visit place if u r in Bar Harbor downtown! Delicious Food & Very Courteous Staff...the True Reflection of BHARAT...
Nice food options
I came here with my family for dinner last week and overall we enjoyed the experience. Food was a bit overpriced and there was a long wait but it tasted good. The naan was absolutely fantastic. Staff is friendly. It is a family run business so some hiccups are expected but we try to support local business as much as we can. Worth a visit if you're craving Indian food.
Best food in very cheap price. Oops, cheap for restaurant not for customer!! They save gas bill by servicing half cooked food. They save money by not listening to customers. I recommend this restaurant, who has craving for Indian food in Maine and is ready to pay heavy bucks. Posted pics of best Indian food I ever had in life for reference.
Fare is very typical of Indian-American restaurants, absolutely no surprises, but it is well cooked and satisfying.
Fantastic food with great ambience. The food is well served in a warm, cozy atmosphere.
The food was amazing! We ordered the vegetable pakora and chicken 65 for apps, couldn’t have been better! The naan also tasted so fresh and soft. My family and I had such a great experience here. Definitely recommend!
This is by far the best Indian food my wife and I have ever had. We eat a lot of ethnic food and have had Indian all over the US and outside the country. The butter chicken here is amazing, the momo is authentic and they have $4 peak organic beer. What more can I say? Yes, the price is high but all Indian is like that. WORTH IT.
The food is excellent, I thought the portions were a tad small for the price, and usually when I get Indian 'Medium' is quite spicy, the medium here didnt have a lot of kick but the quality of the food more than made up for it, I'll just make sure to get spicy next time. We will absolutely be back! I recommend it.
Pros: Food is EXCELLENT. Will return when we visit again solely on this. My fiancé got the chicken tikki massala and I got the Aloo Gobi. Only downside here was cold clumpy rice. Staff is incredibly nice and friendly. Cons: Service & Timeliness—My fiancé and I got there at 8:00 and waited about 10 minutes trying to get our name on the list as there was a wait. We didn’t mind as we expected this! Weirdly though, there were two other couples that came in way later than us, got their names on the list and ended up being seated before us. Frustrating. When we did sit down, we had to wait about 15 minutes to get water and a menu. After ordering, it took roughly 50 minutes to get our food. We didn’t eat until 9:45 and they close at 10. Luckily, I think I all of these things are easily fixable and are probably just growing pains. Definitely worth a visit but you may have to wait a while.
It was too much rush on long weekend in Acadia park in this only indian cuisine joint. They can't manage the rush and price was not worth at all. Taste was not good, never expected dal tadka made up of Chana daal. Rice and roti not up to mark . When we asked for pickle it was heavily charged($4)
Had been to this place for lunch cause it said Indian, but the food didn't taste authentic. We ordered fish curry, chicken biryani, Chicken Pakora, and Chicken 65. Chicken 65 didn't look, feel, or taste like a typical dish, but the taste wasn't bad. I am not sure how to even explain chicken biryani as it tasted like dhal rice with a few chicken pieces in it. Maybe my daughter, who has no experience in cooking can make better fish curry as it tasted like onion and tomato curry with fish pieces in it. Overall I will give it .5 rating.
Authentic food. Very clean place and very tasty food. Quick service as well.
The food was real good, and the servers were the best!!!
Hardly eatable!! Paid $42 at royal India and now waiting for Pizza!!
Affordable price for great Indian food and close to other sightseeing places. Ordered Momo's and chicken Tikka masala. It was delicious and well worth the wait.
Food was undercooked Service was pathetic Starters/appetizers were served after a wait time of 45 mins Main course/Entrėe was served after another 30 mins I think that explains the one star rating well enough.
Worst experience, Togo order took more than 2 hours, waiters are not responsive.
This is the worst “Indian” food i had in a while. Way overpriced for the low quality and terrible tasting food.
No options for negative rating... so managing with 1!!!!
had a nice lunch here. Korma curry was very good. Mango Lassi was lovely. Tried the MoMo out of interest and it was ok, but I think next time I will stick to curry. Expensive, but this i Bar Harbor in the summer
It’s expensive but it’s amazing at the same time the food was astonishing and came out pretty quickly The “Mango Lassi” Tasted completely fresh and it was flavorful I definitely loved this restaurant but the price was a little overpriced. Definitely recommend though because the food was awesome!
Great experience, food quality, timing and service was great. We were 6 in a group, had 2 chiken biriyani and Nan with palok poneer, awesome food. We had short time for lunch they have accommodate everything on time and serve milk tea at the end. Clean place. Though outlook of the restaurant is not so gorgeous but ok, only thing food was pricey, next time will think before come again.
Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic Cheese Naan were awesome. Would definitely return!
Delicious food and friendly staffs. The mango Lassi and samosas were delicious. The chicken tikka masala and garlic naan were tasty and flavourful. Was not disappointed.
My mother and I were visiting Bar Harbor for the week of Fourth of July. We drove up from Bailey Island, and live in Florida, so we were relatively unfamiliar with the area. We had seen Royal Indian a few in passing while driving around looking for the elusive Downtown Bar Harbor available parking spot. We saw a movie in the downtown theater one night, and decided to go for a late night meal. Royal Indian closes at 10:00, and we arrived around 9:15. They were appreciative of our buisness and sat us immediately. The restaurant has a decent sized menu for food, and the drink menu mostly consisting of alcoholic beverages with a few sodas for the kids. We ordered somosas and naan for starters, which both came very quickly and lamb tandoori as the main course. The tandoori was served with more hearty naan and rice on the side and was abundant with flavor and spice. Not only was the food delicious, but the servings were very generous. The service was great, and the location is convenient if you're already downtown. The food is a little bit on the pricey side, but it's relative to the price of the other restaurants in the area. If you're looking for a good meal in the Bar Harbor area, I would highly recommend Royal Indian
Pricey but good food if you are craving for indo-nepalase food
Great Indian food. A bit on the expensive side, would be 5 stars otherwise. I've been to ~20 Indian restaurants in the US and UK, and this is probably top 10. Definitely better than any Indian food I've had in the US so far.
My 5th times at this restaurant was really bad because service was very slow. I had to wait for 1 hour and ten minutes for the food. They gave us a glass of water each to drink while waiting for so long. They never came to check or let us know that it would slow or anything. We had to ask for more water and find out when the food would be coming. If you plan to eat there be ready to wait.
We went at probably the busiest time. We got in quickly and the food was great. Everyone was very kind. Would definitely go again.
Food was good...... happy to see Indian restaurant here. Can’t imagine this kind of food will get. Sahi paneer and Biryani was good. Service was good as well. We took lunch and we were 12 people so we were not expecting this good service. Great experience!!!
Nothing great, nothing worse
Rough crowd. Good effort and passable authentic flavor, especially by Maine standards. Its nice to have a bit of variety and I fully support any and all efforts to bring some spice to this bland part of the country.
Today , July 5, 2019, we came here for food at 4:30 pm. We ordered chicken burins I and other dishes. Let me tell you, the Biriyani is pathetic. Just some boiled rice with light yellow color and chicken pieces also like that. Worst Indian I have ever been. I Do not recommend this. Even other curries also were ridiculous. This is definitely not an Indian cuisine.
Terrific meal and service. We had the Momo to start then the lamb korma, fish masala, and butter naan. Everything was great. Looking forward to going back.
Great Indian place in bar harbor of all places. Staff were attentive despite our large party. The food was delicious. The chicken Tikka masala on 'hot' spice was delicious and certainly made me sweat. Garlic naan was fluffy and had plenty of garlic.
Food was amazing (try the korma) and the owner and staff couldn't have been more lovely. Great food and a great night
Worst food ever had. We ordered dal tadka and vegetable korma with garlic naans. No salt in any of the dishes plus rice was cold. The taste of vegetable korma was blend. The food was enough for two people. Naan was ok. Don’t go during peak hours since they were under staff and were not able to take your order on time plus order everything in one go, otherwise they will take another half an hour to bring your order.
Worst experience, had to wait for hours for the worst food.
Awful.!! One of the worst and over priced Indian restaurants i have ever visited in New England region. We had to wait for almost 1 and half hour to eat half baked Naans. I won't recommend this restaurant to even my 'Enemy'.!!
Good quality Indian restaurant in town. Food and service was excellent. The price was a bit higher but I guess that's expected of all tourist destinations. Servers were friendly and quick. Must try place in Bar Harbor. Highly recommend!
Please be aware! Mr. Diwas Thapa, the owner of this restaurant and also owns Robbins Motel in Maine is exploiting his staff including my own brother. First he finds people who are new to the country and/or desperate to find jobs, then promises to provide a good start up job with lodging, food and transportation benefits. In my brother's case, after my brother was lured into his motel in Maine, Mr. Thapa refused to give him a formal contract and confined him in his motel as my brother does not drive and did not provide proper food. Mr. Thapa's parents were in-charge of providing food to staff but mostly allowed only one meal a day. My brother did not get paid and within three weeks, my brother lost about 10 pounds. My brother experienced worse work condition of his life and quit the job. Mr. Thapa did not listen nor care! Although my brother is out of that place but there are other people in similar situation. Thinking about them, we are filing a complaint against the owner Mr. Diwas Thapa to the Maine Department of Labor! If Mr. Thapa wants to run his business he better start treating his staff with respect and pay agreed wages and benefits or shut down the business!!
I went there this month . It was a good place to be . Good food and service. Will be back .
Delicious, delicious, delicious! The best Indian cuisine I've had in years. So good that we returned the next day. Try the pakoras, vegetable korma, chow mein, tandoori chicken salad, and mixed seafood curry. Beautiful, authentic Nepalese decor. Exceptionally friendly, pleasant, efficient staff. Family run. Highly recommend. Other review about waiting for service didn't take into account that it was the first week they opened; owners clearly didn't realize yet just how popular it would be in those first few days.
Ordered takeout. Loved the minar biryani
Nice restaurant!
Good choice!
Ordered lamb saag, coconut chicken, chicken tikka masala and loved all of it. Great, friendly service and pleasant atmosphere on deck where we sat with our dog and bird. New spot in town worth trying out.
Some of the best Indian food I've ever had. Nann bigger than a dinner plate! And the masala was the best I've had! Wonderfull speedy service with nothing but smiles.
Chicken tiki masala was not our favorite sauce. Naan was large and tasty. Prices were on higher side but chicken portion was on smaller side
Great dinner tonight at the Royal Indian, outside by a nice warm summer night. The food was very tasty and the staff was very friendly. It was not cheap but in the same price range as the other restaurants we have been to in Bar Harbor.
A go-to place for those who want to savor delightful Indian food after a long day of hiking! We were at bar harbor for 2 days and ended up having nearly all our meals there!
Amazing Indian and Nepali food at great price. The meal was served hot and excellent.
The food is sooooooo good!!!! Finger licking momo. Loved it!
Food was ok, but service left a little to be desired. The jackfruit entree was really good. Check was not presented in a timely manner, had to finally get up and pay at the front counter. Water was not refilled and had to ask for refill. Limited vegetarian options and the gravy for the 3 of the 4 entrees we ordered was the same. There seemed to be no difference in taste. If you are from India and used to spicy food, order the highest spice level. There is potential in this restaurant, so do give it a try.
Great service and authentic food!
Food was overpriced, bland & extremely limited for vegetarians. The wait was long despite only 2 tables being busy on a Sunday night. Wouldn’t revisit.
It's the only Indian food in the area and after days of American dining, this was a great change of pace. The place is nice and friendly waitress. Food is good, though you'll find it a little bland if you're Indian so definitely don't order mild. And you'll have to wait a little longer than most places to get it.
Unreal, majestic, real authenticate indian food!!!!!
Me and my wife had to wait for a long time for our order but it was worth a wait. The food was awesome. The staffs were very friendly. 10/10 recommendation.
Average Indian food
We ate Chana Masala, Naan and Lassi. Service was quick and ambience was good. It’s more of a Nepalese restaurant than an Indian.
It was a pleasant surprise find an Indian restaurant in Bar Harbor, that too which serves momos. We were there last week. Ordered Butter Chicken and it was the best butter chicken I have ever had. We loved their momos. Nice Ambience, friendly staff. All stars I can give. Do try mango Lassi. This is my go to place if I am in Bar Harbor again!
Nice
The staffs are very friendly and the atmosphere was very calm. The appetizers we ordered was delicious crispy samosas and garlic naan. My favorite was definitely the momo and mango lassi. Will be back again.
Over all a great experience. Ordered quickly and was served quickly. It was very obvious this stuff was made in house. Momo and Naan were top notch. Definitely will be back
Amazing food. The prices are reasonable in an otherwise pricey town. I got the chicken korma (added spicy) and it was perfect. I started with the mango lassi, which if you've never had one, it's basically a drinkable dessert, but you don't have to wait until after the main course to have one. I also added a garlic naan to my order and they are BIG. You can easily share one among two people. Take a break from the pounds of lobster you've been enjoying on your vacation and come here for a fantastic sit-down experience and authentic Indian food prepared to fill you up, making you lean back to ease pressure from your stomach and say, "man, that was amazing."
Pricy but only Indian place nearby
Best chana masala I have had in a while. Loved every bit of it. The service was great and the ambience made the night memorable.
I went over there for lunch and ordered spicy lamb curry. The food was very tasty with good enough amount of spicy level. They served the complementary rice with the curry. Felt good to have free rice on the side LOL. The atmosphere was very nice. This food reminded me the authentic taste from back home.
nice place to seat , eat and chill
Food was just okay.. last night there was a lot of rush .. I had to wait for 1.5 hours.. management had no idea about expected waiting time, it was a complete mismanagement.
Food was good.
If you’re ever in Bar Harbor be sure to check Royal Indian out!! We came all the way from Ohio for Bar Harbor and Acadia in May. It was beautiful. But we also left with the taste of authentic Nepali/Indian food here. The hits included tandoori chicken and piping hot chana masala (pictures below!). The friendly and excellent service also vibed with the peaceful setting. We are sure to come back when we are back in the neighborhood!
bad food, highly unprofessional, poor service. we went for long weekend so you might experience things little better, though I highly doubt that.
Lovely new restaurant with a nice atmosphere! The food was delicious and the service was good. A welcome break from seafood and burgers.
Wait too long. No one take care of us. Too bad services!
