This Restaurant corresponds to the category of Southern Italian restaurant.
This is an extremely cute and quaint restaurant with excellent service. Every single thing that we ordered was delicious. I had the scallops which were to die for and my husband ordered the lamb ragu dish. We had two appetizers, dessert and wine and it was all very high quality.
Attended Sunday Supper and the experience was unforgettable. Amazing food and atmosphere
Took my husband here for his birthday. Everything was wonderful from the service to the food. You can tell they enjoy what they do.
Excellent.
Love their menu, small plates make sharing fun. And as always super service!
Very very good food and relaxing intament environment
My wife and I had a great dinner there last Saturday. Great menu. Amazing apps and dinner selections. And lovely wines from Italy. Small dining room reminds you of Boston's North End. Fantastic service. Great spot .
Best all around! The food, ambiance, service, and location are superb!
Very cozy atmosphere. Our waitstaff was lovely. Limited seating. The chef's table is a wonderful experience. Loved the squid ink pasta. The pork ragout was highly rated in our group. Great experience.
picolo
This restaurant may have been one of the best meals my girlfriend and I have ever had. The plates were small but the quality of the food was truly astounding. Also worth noting was the amazing service and how nice the restaurant is inside. It’s small and cozy and the staff is extremely attentive and helpful. My suggestion for dining here would be to order a lot because as I mentioned the plates are small and they’re all so good! The Brussel sprouts was the real shining star for us! Can’t wait to come back here again!
Best veal ever!
My husband and I received a gift certificate at Piccolo Restaurant for Christmas and heard good reviews . Made reservations on Valentines Day for dinner at 6 pm . Changed the time to 7:30 pm due to work issues . My husband and I stopped off at another restaurant for a drink and an appetizer before we arrived at Piccolo because we were famished. When we arrived, they sat us right down to a small table next to the entrance door . The waitress was very pleasant and handed us our menu for that night .We were informed of a 6 course tasting for that evening. I was not informed at either times when I made reservations that there was a 6 course tasting menu for that night ONLY. My first extinct was to get up and go to another restaurant . Well we stayed and the Tasting was ok, but not WORTH $75 per person . We left Piccolos still hungry . Very upset that I was not informed of the tasting , especially at $75 person . My husband and I spent $195 for 2 tastings and a bottle of wine . We could have gone to Fore Street , Street Company or another great Restaurant in the Old Port and have eaten like a King . Not impressed .
We had a great evening
Is the best Italian good in the city of Portland... the service, food, desserts, good wines... EVERYTHING
Amazing. Do not overlook this wonderful little restaurant.
Good food but not great. I had a limited snapshot of their menu including the two current pasta dishes, but I was not overly impressed. The homemade pasta was dense. The orrechiette we're almost like flattened gnocchi rather than delicate 'little ears'. The pork ragu was more an assembly of ingredients than a well crafted sauce. The charcuterie plate was good. I'm not sure if any of the salumi was made in house. I would go back to try it again, but I was not enthused by any of the food this time.
The food was so delicious + outstanding service. Servers incredibly knowledgeable of food preparation and inspired ingredients. Intimate atmosphere made the experience all the better!
Excellent place. Very good Italian food.
Absolutely fantastic. The food is excellent
Awesome unique delicious and great service
Absolutely amazing place. Kelly, our server, was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive. My wife and I picked out several menu items to share and were debating on a Main course when Kelly mentioned an off the menu, chefs choice vegetarian pasta. All we had to do was share any allergies etc and then wait for our surprise to arrive. It was like the chef knew us personally, he picked some of our favorites creating a mouth watering medley. I cannot wait to return and would recommend this to anyone looking for a high class meal in this little city.
Duck ragu that warms you to the core.
Definitely a new favorite. The food was phenomenal, the service was impeccable, and the ambiance was memorable. The duck breast special was lovely, and the beet salad was delicious. We had the salumi plate and it was brilliant. We also received a treat from the chef which was truffled scrambled eggs and it was to die for.
My wife and I have been to Piccolo multiple times. It is one of our favorites. The food is always excellent no matter what we order and the portion sizes are appropriate.
The problem with rating this place as excellent is that it was so good from walking in, to the atmosphere, to the drinks, then the apps and then the meal, that if I say too much good I will have a hard time getting table next time. This place rocks it. Well done !
Excellent food but very small portions for the price. Friendly staff.
My wife and I had an extraordinary meal this past weekend at Piccolo. We started with uncooked scallops on the half-shell. We then had house-made pasta with lamb neck ragu that was wonderful. The wine pairings were perfect. Can’t for a return!
Cozy small restaurant. Drove by Portland and looked for dinner, and this place was chosen due to other good reviews. The food (pasta with lamb neck) was BEAUTIFUL, with nice taste- and texture-surprises throughout. Good coffee and super-friendly staff. Recommend a visit here!
Wonderful service. Fantastic food. Great atmosphere.
Food and atmosphere were excellent! This is a small place so make a reservation. We did not but even then the wait wasn't long and again well worth it! I can't wait to go back!
Incredible Italian food that smartly opts out of the typical heavy red sauces. Wonderful servers and a chef that is happy to cater to vegetarians. The restaurant is warm, cozy and romantic, and seats just 20 people. Tables are turned over only once an evening (40 diners max), so reservations are high recommended.
Excellent small Italian dishes. Never disappoints.
The decor and music are phenomenal. Our server, Kelly, was professional, welcoming, and well versed on the menu. Good bread and appetizer. The cavatelli entrée was really not very good. I've had much better, less expensive dishes elsewhere. The menu is almost too limited. The dessert was good.
Homemade bread, pasta. Very fresh. Menu is perfect size. Not overwhelming selection, but still something for everyone. Had 4 separate dishes. All were very good and interesting. -A baby squid and andouille sausage dish -Watermelon salad -A pasta dish that incorporated orange and duck -A pasta dish with pesto and fried egg on top. Local oyster and hen of the wood mushrooms. Service was excellent. Managed to tell us about specials in an informative and non awkward way. Attentive.
Food here is always delicious with a classic yet interesting menu, the staff is great and the atmosphere is cozy and pleasant. Great date spot, or for special occasions. We love to take our parents here when they come to town because they love traveling to Italy and the food and high quality dining experience here always measures up.
Cozy, relaxed, excellent food. Worth the visit, and the return.
Cozy resturant with such an amazing foods. I love all dishes.
Let me start by saying I almost never give 5 star reviews, unless it is truly warranted and a uniquely wonderful experience. Piccalo fit the bill. Absolutely delectable, just make sure not to walk by as it’s a tiny hole in the wall. The food was an incredible blending of flavors I would never have thought of pairing. And my favorite part was my “chefs choice” pasta dish that sealed the deal to make this my new favorite in town. The waitstaff was incredibly knowledgeable, the atmosphere intimate and warm, and the food danced on the tastebuds. Would reccomended this to anyone looking for a high class meal that you won’t soon forget.
Excellent food and service. After resverstion was made online they made a point to call to ask about dietary restrictions. They were happy to accommodate our vegetarian needs.
Fabulous meal. So many amazing things. Zero complaints.
Absolutely wonderful. We loved the side of polenta, and the hangar steak was unbelievable. I'm gluten-free, but they were easily able to accommodate and said if we called ahead next time they would prepare homemade gf pasta for me, no problem. Such a rarity for Italian! We will definitely be back. Service was off the charts, too.
Fine dining at its best. A small and intimate dining room. Had a fantastic home made pasta with lamb ragu.
Amazing
Loved it. Small, intimate, perfect. Simple menu w truly delicious food. Ate a fantastic veal dish w smoked onion aioli. Amazing potatoes. Wonderful waitress. Delicious prosecco and a lovely red. We are lucky to live near Portland! A great birthday meal w friends!
Very good food, wine and service in an intimate setting. A little pricey, but worth it!
Perfect in every way. A pleasure to finally dine there.
Piccolo, small. Small place and small dishes! We wish that our server had been more “helpful”, when we ordered the “1/2 entrees, having never been here, a good server would have bother to inform us that the 1/2 portions were tiny. The full portions were small (the table next to us got the same dishes in full Portions and they were small), the pasta dishes were delicious! We each ordered a half portion of the Cavoletti and the Stracianatti, both were very, very good. We ordered a second 1/2 portion of the Stracianatti, it was so good. The desserts were delicious and small. The wine by the glass is pricey! So many local eateries like this one have great food, but just don’t spend enough time training the wait staff.
Small place (reservations required most days), small menu, but always excellent! Don't miss dessert! Ilma, one of the owners is a fabulous pastry/dessert chef! One of our absolute favorite restaurants in Portland!
Eclectic little joint with delicious meals and Maine hospitality. Sit at the chef's counter
Small, noisy, serving over-worked, heavy, fare.
It was a very nice dining experience and the food was great. I do wish they had told us that we need to call ahead if we wanted to do the tasting menu, though. It's a nice, cozy place for a date night if you're in the area, and the staff are very pleasant.
Absolutely amazing! Best Italian in Portland!
What a pleasure for a birthday dinner! The four of us shared the salumi, bruschetta, carrots, roasted potatoes and brussels sprouts along with two desserts and prosecto and digestives. Highly recommend this hide away.
