REVIEWS OF Petite Jacqueline IN Maine

Chris Smith

Had a wonderful dinner here on a Sunday. Packed. The bouillabaisse was the star, with haddock mussels and scallops in an excellent tomato fennel sauce. Loved everything we had.

Dianne Aguilar

The service and the food is of top notch quality! This french restaurant does not disappoint.

Hailey Young

Favorite place for coffee and brunch.

Brandon Hepler

Awesome little restaurant. We had breakfast there on a whim and the waitstaff were very kind. Even on a busy day, the wait was minimal.

Christine Bernstein

Nice last minute dinner plans. Would go back to try more of their menu, but hopefully not sit by the door.

Jason Trease

Not impressed. At all.

David Bourque

Drinks and food and stuff

Corey Birdsall

I wanted to like this place but the service was rather slow and the waiter didn't come by very frequently. Even though there were only 10 customers in the restaurant. The steak frites were subpar, the steak was dry and the fries were way too salty. My wife had the chicken and that was also dry and yet very greasy on the outside. Not what I was expecting.

Patricia Coleman

Great brunch French cafe

Gilbert Chevalier

Out of this world. Amazing food and great service. Very cozy. Fantastic Happy hour

Chris Bagley

Great dinner experience tonight!

Esley Leda Sonnikson

Beautiful location with huge windows and calm interior. Food was well thought out and carefully put together. Definitely a great brunch spot or casual dining. Feels upscale but not snobby. The steak frites where amazing and cooked perfectly. I will definitely be back with friends.

Rajna Kecojevic

Pros: - great location and view - lovely décor and atmosphere - friendly and knowledgeable staff - good selection of wine and beer and delicious cocktails - most tender and flavorful chicken I've ever ordered anywhere Cons: - fork and knife wrapped in a cloth that resembles a dish rag/baby diaper - use of paper instead of a table cloth – looks a little cheap for a place like this - bread and butter served on table without plates - most boring salad I've ever had – literally just leaves with minimal drizzle of olive oil and red wine vinegar , nothing else - for a French restaurant I expected world class macarons but I've had better at Whole Foods. Even my mom and coworkers make them better  I still give it 4 stars, now I just know what to expect and avoid.

2019:Another excellent dinner. Oyster s, French onion soup, and chicken were outstanding. 2018:Excellent food, we enjoyed everything we had both appetizers (oysters, fois gras) and entries (duck, beef). Fiedly staff. We were in a hurry bbefore a concert and they were able to accommodate our schedule without sacrificing surface or quality of the food. We eat at petite Jacqueline several times at there old location. They moved two years ago and we were happy to find that the food remained just as good.

Ramiro Velasco

Delicious place. Must visit when in Portland!!

Audrey Cooper

3.5 I wanted to love Petite Jacqueline... Unfortunately, nearly every aspect left something to be desired, aside from the macarons, which were quite good and would be the only thing to bring me back. Soup was bland and heinously overpriced, salt was the overwhelming flavor on the frites, and the "mousse" had the consistency of fudgy frosting. While the interior is charming and attractive, the playlist was an Amy Winehouse/Adele mix tape which severely harshed the atmosphere. I hate to write reviews on singular experiences, but as I don't foresee myself going back any time soon...

Gaëtan Trellu

Nice place, nice waiters!!

Andrew Arjoon

They took a reservation two weeks ago for a large party. When we arrived they claimed that they were unable to accommodate us since they have no record of a reservation. Piss poor would be complementary at this time.

M.R. Betz

Homemade seafood crepes, what more is there to say.

Catherine Bargh

Delicious. I had the most delicious burger, perfectly done. The onion soup was soooo good, just the right amount off cheese, snowing last night and it hit the right spot. Husband had the steak frites and tomato/pepper soup and the pots of cream with orange.. he said it was divine.. to finish I had the creme brulee, danged perfect. Husband had a M. Smith drink and house red and as always I had a diet Coke! Service guy was lovely and laughed at my dumb jokes. We will go back.

Francisco Santana

Nice looking restaurant. I got the Maine restaurant week special for lunch. Crepes were a little dry but the soup of the day and the macaroons were amazing. I'd probably only return for the macaroons alone!

Nick Wilson

Great happy hour and service. Beautiful large windows and space.

Stephen Cain

Amazing off-the-beaten-path find. Excellent French cuisine, friendly service, and pleasant setting.

Karl Willis

We had a great experience at Petite Jacqueline! The staff is obviously very passionate about what they do and it shows. We love this place!

William McGee

I cannot speak French, so let's get that out of the way, but I do love tasty food. This place was fantastic! We ordered a 3-course meal including salad, an entree and dessert as well as a separate entree and didn't regret a single bite. The service was wonderful and friendly, and the price was very agreeable. I would love to return to this restaurant!

James Nix

Came for breakfast/brunch. Crepes were good! However poached eggs were very undercooked. I'd go elsewhere for breakfast in Portland rather than come back.

Diana Etheridge

Both the quiche and Croque Madame were delicious. Nice bright spot. Our server very nice.

Trish Carr

We came here for our anniversary dinner and loved it. We started at the bar during happy hour and ordered the oysters and ham and gruyere crepe. Both were delicious! When it was time for our reservation we moved to a table and the service was wonderful. I ordered the prix fixe entree (mussels) and it came with a salad and a blueberry pudding that was amazing! My husband ordered the chef’s choice which was a ribeye steak along with pasta and it was also very good. We enjoyed the cozy and romantic atmosphere. Petite Jacqueline is a perfect date night spot!

Michelle Lam

Terrible service and meh food. My husband and I could have made a better meal ourselves. Way way overrated! Food took forever to come out and it was cold when it did. We traveled from Michigan for this place and wasted stomach space, time, and a disappointing evening. Eventide and Central Provisions were by far well worth the cost and time... don't waste your time here. It's not worth it AT ALL!

Ken Kleinman

A very French place. That said, I had one of the best hamburgers of my life in here, and I'm over 50. Fries were also wonderful. Crepes, too. I was there for lunch, but the dinner menu looks very attractive. Great wait staff, very friendly. Will come back for dessert.

Vanessa Bresee

Picture perfect restaurant in the heart of old port. My husband and I were very impressed with the food and service - it was a highlight of our stay in Portland.

Matthew Campbell

Inventive French-style cuisine

Andrew Davis

Delicious food, great service.

Samantha Dobra

Amazing service was paired perfectly with a delicious crepe and mimosa!

James Schmidt

I love french bistos, good food, great spot

We've been to Petite Jacqueline several times at their old location and once at the new location. It's always been first rate. Portland is home to the best restaurants on the East Coast, some are cutting edge chef driven restaurants such as Vinland and Bolster and Snow, and some are more traditional. Petite Jacqueline falls into the latter category, it's a classic French Bistro done suburbly. We had the beef bourguignon and the duck, both were delicious. I also had oysters. Maine is home to a lot of oyster farms so good oysters are commonplace. What distinguished the oysters at Petite Jacqueline was the champagne ice in combination with horseradish. They provide a choice of five accompaniments but I strongly recommend that you order the champagne ice and the horseradish and then put both on the oysters, the champagne ice cuts the horseradish with a sweet flavor which brings the oysters up to another level. 7/26/2019 Started with the oysters again, I can't say enough good things about the combination of champagne ice and horseradish, this is a must. We followed the oysters with the French onion soup, this is as good as French onion soup gets. We then had the hanger steak and roast chicken, both were very good but the standout item were the peas that came with the chicken, they had a nutty flavor that I loved, it's hard to imagine that simple peas could be so exceptional but there you have it.

Viking 32B

Absolutely delicious, we ordered the croque madame, 2 thumbs up

Misha Peterson

Authentic French crepes that are delicious! Love space to dine in!

John Jackson

Wonderful good and great atmosphere.

James Kelley

Although this place has moved to a new location since my last visit, the atmosphere, the service, and the food are as good as I remember. Definitely recommend.

Mary Nolan

Amazing service. Delicious coffee and best of all, maine blueberry macarons!

Ian Ashland

Petite Jacqueline is a lovely French cafe in the heart of the Old Port. The food is excellent, with a wide variety of sweet and/or savory Crepes along with other French cuisine. The Croque Madame at Brunch is heavenly. The Fondue in the evening is great to share, and they have some of the best fries around. Whether you go for Brunch or Dinner you're sure to have a wonderful meal. The staff are amazing, and I cannot recommend it enough.

Anna Swoboda

Solid French fare in a beautiful space. Can't wait to try the happy hour!

Katie Hatch

I’ve been a fan of Petit Jacqueline since it opened near Longfellow Square. A Maine take on classic French cuisine, the menu is laden with bistro classics - steak frites, croque madame, omelette. The French onion soup is always a favorite. The waitstaff is happy to accommodate if you let them know what you want or need. Fun cocktails and solid wine list.

Sandy Cooke

Perfect french bistro in Portland

Matt Mudd

The place has been nicely updated, but the lunch was terrible - warmed over quiche and crepe. We had an excellent lunch here several years ago. Not sure what happened???

Craig Gosnay

Really good food and reasonable prices. Relaexed atmosphere. Had a slight issue but the service was great and it was resolved quickly

Bonnie MacInnis

It was awful from the beginning to end. Two of us went for Sunday Brunch last week. Service slow EVEN though we were the first ones in the place. Our table was on top of the one next to us so it felt like a foursome...no place to move. Food atrocious. We both ordered Crepe's. Mine was with cheese & fresh veggies; hold the tomatoes. I got an overdone egg on top; a hard, cold crepe; canned mushrooms with a few stringy "carmalized onions. Our other crepe was cheese & bacon...same cold, overdone egg & crepe. Dessert was a chocolate covered stale eclair with a fruity filling. The only possibly ok part of the meal was a Caesar salad but the dressing was in globs on top of lettuce & crotons. This is the second really bad meal I have had at this restaurant...sorry, would not try again.

Larry Bounds

This place rocks! Best food I had in Portland.

Nicole Keough

My dining experience at Petite Jacqueline was amazing! The decor, the staff, the food were all top notch. I highly recommend this restaurant for lunch.

Andrew Berdell

Let me first say that service was outstanding. Now on to the food. The steak frites had a weird lemony taste to it I had others at the table try and all agreed it was odd flavoring, not bad just wierd. 2 people had the duck special as it was the Saturday. They liked the duck but said the potatoes were dry and overdone. Others had scallops and mussels and seemed to like them. The menu is very small and limited, originally some of us wanted the beef bourguignon which was on their website menu but not available when there, that was disappointing. Drinks were solid,, so were the appetizers though we didn't care too much for the fondue cheese sauce. Wine bottle prices were fair. Dessert menu can use a little help. Is it true French cusine, no, but you will probably like it. We visit many of the restaurants when we go to Portland about 2x a month, will we be back here..... maybe, I'll check if they update the menu. Many of the group preferred Chaval to it but that is more Spanish/French fusion.

Vladimir Tolstikhin

It's a nice quite place to have a french food.

Todd Parker

We loved the crepes and drinks, although a bit on the pricey side. Not sure if bones are a thing with eating duck, but there were a few large chunks that surprised us. The French onion soup was delightful.

Miles Crockett

Had a lovely salmon crepe, with fresh olives and the greatest flourless torte of my life. You'll get what you pay for.

Kersi FM

The 3 stars are for the atmosphere, the service, and the menu. It really feels like you're in France! The 2 missing stars are for the prices and the amount of food per serving. Make sure you bring plenty of $$ if you want to eat there, prices are definitely above average. I had pumpkin soup, and it was not very flavorful and there was not a lot of it either. If I'm ever back in Portland, I will not return.

Horace Barsh

Good onion soup. Muscles sauce good, the muscles did not just come out of the steamer.

Alison Benincase

Very cute, great veggie omelette! Didn't have Bloody Mary's when I went which was a bummer.

Virginia Purcell

Our server was exceptional, the food creative and absolutely delicious. A great place to go before the show.

Kyle Martin

Delicious meals every time. Great french food - and I love the fact that they buy from local farms!

Kathy Rus

Excellent little local bistro. The mussels were very good, the onion soup and bread were comfort personified on a rainy night and the pot au creme a perfect ending. Risotto could have been more tender, but flavors were great. Loved this place.

Maryfran Johnson

A truly delightful little French Bistro, the perfect place for a drink and appetizer. Very friendly and personable wait staff. I only wish we'd had time to enjoy the dinner! Lovely views out big windows of the surrounding neighborhood, too. Tres charmant!

Steve M

Great place to catch a great French meal!

Janeta Watts

It is so good here. Came here twice on our trip of 4 days to Portland. Really loved the ham and Gruyère crepe. Lovely staff. Just a wonderful experience

Steven Jefairjian

It was nice, but not what I expected. The coffee was good... the pastries and sweets were nice too. The food items and salads are both interesting and tasty. It's very comfortable, nicely decorated and on a side street with less congestion than Exchange St.... a good place to relax and rest if you've been sight seeing.

Christian Karkow

Outstanding service of brilliant food. Cozy and casual atmosphere. A perfect date with my wife at the beginning of a lovely vacation. Try the fried broccoli!

Timothy Morris

Best French restaurant we've eaten at, rivals European resteraunts I've been to. Desert was stellar!

Ben Toussaint

Loved the place. Great food, good wine and good prices. Nice service and dining area too. We also had a couple appetizers and a dessert but didn’t take pictures (we were hungry and dug right in

Ginger LaSalle

Good happy hour snacks. Friendly service, accompaniments for cheese was perfect. Got 3 types of oysters and all were shucked perfectly.

serdiegito

Excellent food, lovely place. A small Paris in Maine

David Starnes

A really quaint restaurant, passed a rainy afternoon with crepes, French Onion soup, a salad. Comfort food. Really great place for good food, conversation; and, even a rarer treat these days. Reading a paper.

Andrew Schulert

cozy, friendly cafe with delicious menu.

Ken Ku

Nice restaurant in Portland. We went on a Tuesday evening and they had a Prix fixe menu with 3 courses including a salad, a fish entree, and a dessert. I think this was a great value. They also have a special for the day which was a half chicken. The drink list was quite good and desseets were nice and not overwhelming after a big dinner. It was a very nice experience and I will definitely be back.

Dara Jarrendt

Great location. Food and staff

Stuart Sadick

Excellent restaurant, excellent Portland experience. High on my list when we get back to visit.

Chris Thompson

Loved the crepes, service was a little off. Lovely setting.

Emily Belanger

Always a great atmosphere. The daily olates are always delicious, the drinks are phenomenal, and the creme brulee always leaves me and my boyfriend wanting more.

Sam Tran

Cute and quaint. The perfect brunch spot. Got the croque madame and it was delicious.

Brandy Casey

Went on a Sunday morning with my boyfriend and his brother. Got sat and waited 30 min and never even got acknowledged. People were being sat all around us and instantly getting greeted and served. We ended up getting up and leaving. Worst service I’ve ever encountered anywhere; there are much better and more reasonably priced brunch spots in the area.

Jonathan Erdman

Reasonably priced, lovely staff, beautiful French-American and French inspired cuisine.

David Goldfield

Great food, drinks, and service! Go before the summer crowds.

Nicole Daigle

Amazing blueberry eclair

Craig Gilreath

We go here every year after Christmas and it is always outstanding. Get the steak frites or burger and you'll be very happy.

Erich D.

Great location, great coffee, and really, really good food!! The croque Madama, quiche, and frites were absolutely perfect. Highly recommend this place as yet another gem in Portland!

Grigorios Chomatas

Tasty crepes and Quiche Lorraine. You may want to try hot chocolate with Charteuse. Nice music, bright space with big windows and friendly personnel.

Michael Jacobs

Food was delicious!

David Hutchinson

Great food and atmosphere. Will definitely go back.

Ben Michaud

Excellent service, they split our salad and kids' crepe without us asking. Happy hour specials were good with generous wine pours. It makes us miss Normandie.

Randy Xu

Service was good and menu was very authentically French. I went in right before end of happy hour and had a choice of different French liquors like pastis but also non-French drinks. Oyster selection was great for $1.50. Service was great.

Michael Rabasa

Rather disappointing experience, we never got to eat because our reserved table had been occupied for the last two hours by another party. They showed no intention of leaving. We were offered another table but it was right next to what was going to be a large party of people. We opted not to stay. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the food or the menu, just our brief stay there.

Emily Beaulieu

Really good French food and beautiful restaurant!

Jennifer O

The food was delicious but the service was a little slow.

Llomil Benningfield

Our food was delicious, service was prompt and friendly, and the atmosphere is french-inspired without feeling cliche or overwrought.

Aimee St.Amand

Wonderful food. Vegetarian options.

Kim Simmons

Best French Onion Soup I've ever had in my life. no joke.

Karen Wishart

Everything was perfect. Went for brunch and hope to return some day for dinner

mayte rivera

Great service, food, location.

ROBERT WEILAND

One of my favorite French restaurants in downtown Portland it's just a wonderfully casual delicious place

Meredith Casey

My husband and I had wonderful service and a delicious meal that left us eager to tell our friends and family about it. My husband enjoyed the duck confit crepe (warm spices, and caramelized onions) and he (and I) love it. I had the steak and eggs with home fries and topped with a beautiful, light but flavorful Bearnaise sauce. Bon appetit!

Jack Swanton

Our favorite Portland Sunday brunch spot

Corinne Gentil

Ok. Great burgers.

Daniel Mercer

Loved the French onion soup

Tara Langford

Great prices on wine and delicious cheese plates!

Ralph Valente

Just loved it. Cannot wait to go back. The food was topshelf.

Kimberly Halkiotis

The AC wasn't working great on one of the hottest days of the year, and our food took forever. (Or at least that's how it seemed.) But they were very accommodating to our 3 kids under 5, and out waitress was wonderful. The food was DELICIOUS!

margaret reimer

Lovely small plates and inventive cocktails. We let them know it was our anniversary when we booked and they greeted us with champagne! We had a delightful unhurried meal. Can hardly wait to go back!

Nicole Weiler

Their crepes are delicious! Beautiful atmosphere. Waitstaff was friendly.

Gabriel Perez

What an experience! I had just started seeing a new girlfriend for a couple weeks, and things had moved along well. I wanted to push things into full exclusive relationship, because I'm that kind of guy. I'm not afraid of commitment. But before this we hadn't been on anything you could call an official date. So we were walking around the Old Port, looking at different shops and stuff, and I just went ahead and did it. I got this girl some fancy crepes. The atmosphere was perfect for a late lunch date, and this girl had never had crepes before. She loved the crepes. I did too. I am still going out with her. We're in love. Is it because of Petite Jacqueline? Not entirely, but it certainly helped.

Jessica Kellett

Everything was delicious! And nice service as well...

Laurie Martin

Wonderful meal , fun atmosphere

K Ramz

Delicious food, excellent service & a great dining location in the heart of downtown Portland!

robert martin

My brother, my girlfriend and myself were sat on a morning that wasn’t very busy. We waited for 30 minutes and not a single server even made eye contact with us. Tables were sat and served around us after we had got there. It was as if we were ghosts to the servers there. Ended up leaving and didn’t even bother trying the food.

Susan jane

One of my favorites in Portland.Great wine list, fabulous burger, unique crepes all reasonably priced

Mark Barash

Excellent food, decor.
