You know that we do not usually stop to put reviews when these are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Restaurant is included in the category of Indian restaurant.
This is my go to for take out Indian food when I’m in the area - it always meets my expectations
Great Indian food, service and atmosphere.
Worst experience i ever had.The service is very bad and restaurant is not so well managed. we ordered matar paneer and the dish Is full lots of uncooked matar only, you can rarely find paneer chunks. Taste is very bad. Dal makhni is like Kali dal and the veg biryani is like fried rice with lots of big veggies chunks.
Actually thought of giving zero star. But atleast one was mandatory. Worst concept ever for a restuarant. I was feeling very hungry and went to order something to eat. But they told me that “order should be $15 per head” or else I cannot order itseems. This is the worst welcome from a restuarant. Poor service. Highly NOT recommended.
My husband and I love to go there for lunch whenever we can. The lamb curry is amazing!
Tasty!
Nice food.
Terrible terrible service and food. I have no idea how this place is getting any awards. I would not recommend this place to anyone at all. Food here is not just not tasty enough, it's horrible, repulsive, and downright unappealing. Rather eat out of a dumpster than jewel of India.
Hm Gaye hi nahi
Would have given a 5 star, if the service was better. Good food, but understaffed. Need more attentive management.
Have been going here for many many years, the food has always been good and the service is almost always great. The only complaint is that the good and service slips a little when they are very busy but given the size of the place this is not surprising, best to go at lunch!
Very good food and very hospitile owners.
Worst food and Worst Customer Service. Do not dare to eat food over here...it's pathetic...
Always a delight
Cozy, cute little restaurant. Staff was warm and inviting and the food was reasonably priced and very tasty. Would definitely go again.
Great to find some good Indian food in Maine.
Service very nice. Food good.
This resturant was great. Service is great as they are really nice and they provide accommodations for your needs. The food and ambiance was also great. The naan was very large and well made and the ambience was nice and relaxing. I would definaltey recommend this place for others especially since the price is very reasonable.
Awesome food. My son and his friend order frequently and treated his wife and us to dinner there. My wife was very skeptical but she really enjoyed her dish. I had the chicken vindaloo and it was amazing. The naan is fantastic and a must have for whatever meal you have. Perfectly cooked Jasmine rice complimented it all. Easily one of the best meals I’ve had recently and we’ll be going again.
Delicious food, great looking place, definitely go in if you’re a fan if Indian food!
Yummy Indian food, a couple of interesting beer selections, decent wine selection, nice staff, with decent prices.
Oh amaging
Long wait
Fabulous food and great staff. We set pretty high standards for Indian cuisine, and we absolutely loved this place. Loved the decor as well. Sat Sri Akaal!
Everything I've had has been quite good. Mango Lamb is my favorite meat dish there. I tried it on a whim, and it's my new go-to. The Malai Kofta (my favorite vegetarian dish anywhere) was great, too.
A solid Indian dining place. While the restaurant isn't anything to rave about, if you're looking for Indian food in or around Hanover, this is the place to go. The food is tasty and the staff are friendly and efficient enough. The Sunday lunch buffet is a really good value if you have a decent stomach. I'd recommend this place if you're looking for a good Indian meal.
I work on Main Street and get lunch here every Friday. I look forward to it- SO DELISH!
The food is consistently good. I've eaten at dozens of Indian restaurants over the years and this one ranks in the top 5 to 10.
The food was amazing..the service wasn't. But would still go back for the food.
Dinner time has some great options and fantastic food. The lunch buffet is pretty decent as well but avoid going toward the end. About 30 minutes before they close up they stop replacing what runs out. Kind of annoying that they're willing to seat and charge you but you're left with a fraction of the original options.
so nice
I visited with a friend who gave great reviews about the place but in the end we both left disappointed. The food had no taste, the curries were diluted, my friend said may be we went on a wrong day.
We love Indian food, and this is our favorite spot north of Portland.
Great Indian food in a remote place. The service was excellent as well.
Just had the Paneer Masala and was very disappointed with it. Very little Paneer and mostly masala sauce. Roti was paper thin. No utensils with the carry-out order. Having worked in India for years this was very disappointing to say the least. Will not eat at this restaurant again. BP
Food is great, price is good but service could be more attentive.
Awesome food n good ambience!
Good one
The food is the jewel at this restaurant. We had the Lamb Korma and Mango Chicken both were very delicious and tender. We also had naan and raita. 5 stars for food! Decor, service and prices are in line with other similar establishments. I highly recommend this restaurant.
I could eat the saag Dahl every day!
Jewel of India is a great place to eat. I make sure to get brunch here at least once a term, and I never regret it. It's only ten dollars for all-you-can-eat, and the food is really good. The service is also very friendly. It feels like you're sitting in somebody's house, just enjoying a meal.
Good Indian restaurant with great service. I was surprised to find such a jewelry in Waterville. Highly recommended.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is always delicious and fresh. I live north of Lebanon, so it's always a treat when I get grab dinner here.
Great food and drinks, especially if you're going out with a group of friends or family. Just order a bunch of naan and curries and share. Very filling(in a good way) and you'll have plenty of leftovers.
Fast, friendly service. They have a discount for Dartmouth students. Best Indian in the area!
Excellent food and courteous staff. Just be aware of the hours; they close between lunch and dinner.
Excellent
The butter chicken is amazing every time I come here, and the staff is really nice.
The food was yummy! The flavor had a nice balence of spices and wasn't salty or greasy. The service was both super fast and friendly. 12/10 would recommend. :)
High quality food, which travels well. Very flavourful.
Delicious
Always great fresh and tasty. Not greesy. Really good Indian
Lunch specials were reasonably priced. Food was prepared quickly. Service was good. I enjoyed the samosas and chicken korma. I found the rogan josh to be a little bland, but still not bad. All the dishes were served with chutney, which was nice. Overall, a good experience. I'll be returning.
The fare was typical Indian cuisine, not disappointing, and not special. The service was awful! Half way through our meal the server came to ask us if we were finished. We had been there for less than 30 minutes, had ordered an appetizer, a main course each and two glasses of wine. He returned five minutes later wanting to clear our plates and another five minutes after that with the bill. I asked him if he was in a hurry and he said yes! I will never return, despite a love for Indian food and their being the only Indian restaurant in the area.
Love!
About as authentic as you can get in Hanover.
Great Indian food!
Love their chicken Tika masala and naan. The place to go for Indian food, no questions.
Great place to eat veg indian food.Dal Makhni Baigan Bhurta Kadi were good
Very good taste and very decent ambiance. Impressed with hospitality of host.
Delicious meal, reasonably priced.
fantastic Indian cuisine in an old house, located just off campus (Dartmouth). A good find in a small college town.
I haven't tried it but my boyfriend has cause he likes Indian food. He hasn't had very much to say good about this place
Jewel of India is family owned and operated. Good ambience. Good food. We ordered paneer kadhai, dal makhani and roti sampler. Paneer curry was good. Dal makhani was just chana dal(yellow lentil), not the actual dal makhani. (however everything didn't taste cooked fresh.) Overall good experience.
Oh this one is a real Jewel. This is a family run Indian restaurant. The hosts are very welcoming, and the food is as close to home cooked food as it gets. The food is prepared so fresh and the owners were kind enough to cook a few things for us which were not even on the menu. I will highly recommend this place.
No option of zero stars so have to give one... Hotel staff here will welcome non-Indian with big smile, but if they sees Indian then they will behave worst possible to them... Coming to the food, it's worst than their behaviour...
The food at the Jewel of Index was outstanding. This was the first time we ever dined here but I can promise you we will be back. If you have never eaten Indian food before you will be in for a real treat.
All time favorite
Truly great Indian food. Very nicely done, amazing flavors.
Good food, but a small dining area
Great food and quick service, take out is second to none.
Great Sit-down Indian food.
The service is very good and the food is perfect in every way. Vegan and vegetarian options are actually amazing.
Would suggest coming well before closing time. We had to hurry with our (delicious) order, and the staff didn't seem too happy to let us eat at a normal pace.
The food? not bad. The service? Hideous! I have never met anyone as rude in my life. No business ethics at all. On principle I will never return, and I could not in good conscious recommend the jewel of India to anyone!!
Food is good but not great. It's a relatively small restaurant with limited seating and a fairly standard Indian menu. It is the only Indian choice in Hanover, but Taj in White River is better, and for better value, in my opinion.
Really good Indian food at decent prices. If the place had coffee I'd spend more time there.
Good food and prices
Awful!
LOVE this wonderful restaurant! Amazing food, great selections, affordable and superb staff! *It is also nice that they will prepare my/your food as spicy as a Scotch Bonnet Pepper if asked.
Good food with student.if you go to this resturant don't forget to ask the owner about indiqn king picture that he hang around th resturant. :)
Best Indian Food in town. Just walking by it and smelling the cooking makes me hungry.
Authentic food and a friendly family run restaurant.
Delicious
Went out for lunch and loved this place! The fresh breads are an absolute requirement to accompany the delicious meals. We enjoyed Chicken Curry and Tandoori Mixed Grill as our selection and they were both amazing. The Gulab Jamun was the perfect finishing touch for dessert. Very reasonably priced and the options are varied and extensive. Very authentic and flavorful.....Highly Recommended! Wow!
Good north Indian food and service. Late in the evening food came to our table quick. Naan was really good, lamb with mushroom was good too.
Decent food, worth a try especially if you haven't had indian. When we went it didn't seem to be busy at all.
Best Indian food in NH.
Fantastic!!!
Good off the menu
The Jewel of India is a locally owned non chain restaurant. They do a great job with friendly service and serving really amazing food. The staff does a great job of describing the menu and making sure your not getting a hot dish if your palette can't take it. If your in waterville check this place out.
What a great find! Went here for the first time recently and it was great. Interesting decor but the food makes up for it. Definitely will be back again and again. Thanks for the great service.
Great food.
Even 1rating is more for the food we get here. Not even a single dish we bought was satisfactory. Suprised to see how this restaurant has this good review. If you just want to have Indian food for namesake and doesn't care about the taste then this is the place for you.If you value your money then go find a better place than this.Never going to go back to this restaurant.Ambience is good though have to agree on that.
Last night I ordered a typical sized delivery order - two main dishes and two pieces of naan. After being over an HOUR late (to deliver only a few blocks!) I called to ask where my food was. I was told it was on its way, so I continued to sit by my phone waiting for the phone call. Finally a friend called me to the front door where the delivery guy was waiting and proceeded to YELL at me that he was trying to call me. I explained to him that I had been sitting by my phone and actively watching it - I was, after all, starving after waiting for over an hour! Why wouldn't I be actively waiting for the delivery phone call?! He insisted that I was ignoring him, that I must think he was lying and continued to yell at me for ignoring his calls for several minutes. Even after I informed him that I would no longer be ordering from Jewel after that interaction, he laughed at me and continued to yell until I shut the door. I then called the restaurant to tell them that I did not want to pay for such treatment only to be brushed off that they would "talk" to the delivery man - they seemed to have more important things to deal with than an upset customer. DO NOT ORDER FROM JEWEL. They have no respect for their customers - both dine-in and delivery promises poor customer service! Instead opt for Taj-E India, based in White River Junction, which will deliver to Hanover and has MUCH better food anyways! UPDATE: The restaurant has taken it upon themselves to charge me a tip I did not authorize or sign for. Luckily my bank is resolving the issue, but how can a restaurant behave like this?!
Love the food, but my wife can't handle her spices.
The service is always incredible, and the food was awesome. It's always a treat!
Nice food
Very salty, way too much sauce and the waitress acted like we were a bother. I've been to far better Indian food restaurants. A small plate of rice to share between 3 people? It is not good karma to treat people poorly.
Loved it. Great food.
They have made the effort to filter their water. A simple thing that makes all the difference in the world.
our server helped us with our ineptitude with Indian cuisine and the food was good, underrated place for sure
I always try to stop in to get something here when I have some extra time in Hanover. Excellent Indian food and the best chutnies I've ever had. It's in a great spot, close to downtown and has a lovely little seating area outside during the summer months. Highly recommend.
2 order garlic naan 1 order chicken tikka masala
LOVE THEM. The service is prompt, kind, and respectful. The food is far superior to any around. Quality food, at a modest price.
Went here for my birthday the lamb was amazing and garlic Nan was so good, very attentive and friendly wait staff
The waiters are friendly but they don't know how to manage. Food is ok for price.
The food here is AMAZING! I also like that it is a family run business. The prices are bit high, but the quality of the food makes it worth it.
Awesome Punjabi Food
Very good food, good, quick service. A little on the pricey side. Will definitely go back though.
Decent Indian food. Curries seem generic after a point. Samosas are great.
Loved it!
Great food and service!
Delicious food served by polite and professional staff. Great location.
Loved it
Great selection. Exquisite seasonings. Many gluten free options. Have eaten here twice this week.Friendly service. Can't wait to return.
Number 1# Indian dinning around
Who serves chicken without bones ??
Solid Indian food.
Excellent food - and has been for over 25 years!
Great service, great food.
Legit Indian food in central Maine. Second time I have had their food. This time I got Chicken Korma and it was incredible. If you like curry dishes then you will love this! I also had a side of naan and it complimented it do well. I will eat here again, soon. The only downside to this place is that their prices are relativity high. The food will not do disappoint.
“Food was just ok as per Indian standards...” We reached there just before closing time and it seems like they were not happy… haha… Like not interested in taking orders... Service was slow… The ambience was quite good though… Food was just ok... it had blunt taste … my friend ordered chicken kabab and even he did not found it good and he left it as it is... The server did not even ask why did you leave, is there any problem as he was more interested in closing the counter…
While the food is about average for an Indian joint in a college town, the service has always been laughably abysmal. 2 out of the last 3 times I came here, however, was attended to by a man (presumably one of the owners) who was incredibly rude... really the only way to describe him is "a-hole". Although have eaten and gotten take away many times from this place I won't be returning.
Undercooked Chicken: We placed a delivery order to the hospital and the service time was less than an hour (the reason for 2 stars). The order consisted of about 6 different menu items. When the order arrived there were two orders that both had undercooked chicken. Upon calling, the restaurant refused to re deliver these items, claiming they had no one to deliver (despite our food being delivered 15 minutes prior). They somewhat reluctantly refunded the card for the two items that were affected. The other food items were par for the course and, realistically, over priced.
Nice homely service, good taste, quick service, good interiors and wide selection
I really liked this place. The food was tasty. Nice Indian cuisine restaurant to visit.
Very mediocre Indian cuisine. I ordered the non vegetarian thali combination. The curried chicken and goat tasted like pre-cooked meat added to very generic sauces. The tandoori chicken was NOT tandoori chicken. Frozen thawed boneless chicken breast simmered in a flavorless red sauce rather than marinated and cooked in a tandoor. When I questioned the dish. I was informed that northerners don't like bone-in dishes. (!) The puri and raita were fine, and on the plus side service was very quick.
Had a very nice lunch here: tasty and authentic indian food.
Food was quite good. Service was a little iffy. The waitress had no idea how to make any of the alcoholic beverages being ordered.
Best Indian food in a 50 mile radius!
I absolutely love it here. I am Indian myself and let me say that this food is better than some of the food in India! It is also better than many Indian restaurants in NYC, which is saying something because the Indian restaurants in NYC truly are great. The service is wonderful, and the people who run the place are some of the nicest people in town. I recommend the puri, naan, paneer pakora, reshmi kebab, and vegetable pakora. These are all to die for!
Prior to yesterday my son and I had eaten here twice and loved it. Yesterday my food was quite spicy instead of the very mild I had requested. My son called it to the attention of the waiter and my food was replaced. We both expressed our thanks. In a few minutes the owner/chef came out addressing my son saying that if I didn't like hot Indian food I should go elsewhere. I tried to explain to him, but he averted his face from me and spoke only to my son. The fun lunch was spoiled by his rudeness to me and by his disrespect for women. We will not return.
Great food. I always overeat because everything is so good.
Wonderful assortment of food, always fantastic! Limited parking however if you can find a spot it's definitely worth trying. In my opinion they're the best in the state!
Excellent food and service. Best Indian cuisine between Boston and Montreal! I look forward to dinning again there very soon.
I would probably get take out from here frequestnly if I lived locally. The food is really good, plentiful and reasonably priced. But the atmosphere and service leave a lot to be desired. The glass of sauvignon blanc was served quite WARM. The waiter acknowledged this was wrong, but didn't offer to do anything to make it right. The ding-dong-ding chime signaling that someone had entered or exited the front door was constant. The wait staff tended to swarm around the cash register area near where I sat and jabber away at each other in a sometimes unpleasant way. There is no vestibule at the front door, so the comings and goings made it drafty, almost cold in the front of the dining area. I sat near the side door, while the delivery people used to pop in and out of the place, so I'd get blasts of cold air, too. You get the idea: take out, don't dine in.
Best Indian food I've ever eaten.
It is the best place in maine for indian food.....its so awesome guys beleive me.......food is so fresh and delicious
Midweek lunch buffet very satisfying.
Got lamb curry and chicken tikka masala and they were both super delicious and tender. Was just driving through and very happy I picked a Jewel in the haystack!
Great food that's worth giving a try. Good fast service.
Our experience started out a bit strange. We first ordered a couple king fisher beers which were fine. Upon serving them our waiter dropped one of the glasses. What wasn't right is the waiter picked it up off the floor and put in on our table and never replaced it with a clean glass. The food was good. Another thing that turned us off was the waiter using windex to clean the tables all around us. No matter how good the food was attention to details can overshadow the experience.
Really the only eat-in option for Indian food in tbe upper valley. Pretty decent IMO and at par with a lot of big city Indian restaurants. Close to Dartmouth college. Try the veg platter for appetizers and Chicken tikka saag for entree. Pair with a Kingfisher lager (always good with Indian food! Bon appetit!
Enjoyed atmosphere and food
Best chicken korma! I travel quite a bit for work and I love trying new Indian restaurants. This is perhaps the best chicken korma I have ever had. The naan was great too! I'll be back!
I really liked this place. Ive been to many Indian restaurants all over the east coast and i would rank Jewel of India pretty high on my list of best places to go. I got the veggie samosa, garlic naan and chicken vindaloo. Everything came out fast and delicious. The staff were courteous and efficient. I would definitely come back again.
lamb saag and the naan
I ordered the mango chicken, mild for takeout. It was very flavorful and not too spicy for my taste. Very good flavors. A wonderful addition to Waterville. Prices are reasonable. I will go again!
Excellent meal and service. It was Valentine's day and she, the owner, was on her own. She was thorough and kind and the meal was fantastic.
I took my dad, a person who thought he didn't like Indian food, and the Jewel changed his mind. Small place, but it has a nice patio. Maybe the best Indian food in New Hampshire.
Food isn't good quality
Meh
My wife and I love Indian food and have had it at a range of places in the US and Britain. My wife had visited Jewel of India once, but last night was my first visit. We found it to be one of the best such restaurants we've ever eaten at. We started with vegetable Pakora. They were fresh, flavorful, and the sauces were clearly homemade and well prepared. We had old favorites for the entrees--Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Shahi Korma. Both were superb, well flavored, and nicely balanced. We had both plain and garlic Naan, and it was the best Naan I think I've ever had. It was light, flavorful, chewy and (unexpectedly) crisp. We had both the sweet and salt Lassi last night. The sweet might have gone a little heavy on the rose water, but tasted good to me. The salt lassi was exactly what it should be, and was both delicious and refreshing. As I expect in a real Indian restaurant, the meal was paced to allow the diners to enjoy a conversation with each other while also savoring the meal. Everything was clean, and I had no problem with any part of the evening. We will certainly be going back.
Great food great people
Great food, great servers. A little overpriced but that’s what you expect in a remote college town in New Hampshire! Very friendly and cozy environment. P.S: you can ask the server the level of spice you can tolerate and they’ll make sure you get what you ask for!
Great food!
Do not order Chicken tandoori at this restaurant , if you are an Indian. Because they served “BONELESS” chicken tandoori. To our utter surprise when we brought this issue to the lady in the restaurant, she nonchalantly said that since most of the people who visits her restaurant are Americans, she is least bothered about mentioning the point in the menu that the Tandoori served here is boneless. This is really fleecing the Americans into making them eat some stupid which by no means does justice to the great “Chicken Tandoori”. This place is not at all fit to be an authentic Indian restaurant. I have stricken this off my list.
Fabulous food
Sooo gooood!
unexpected find for waterville maine, food was excellent - and I eat a lot of indian! great family run joint
Delicious food, good portions.
I enjoyed a plate of lamb corma. But I didn't get full must be because I am a hiker On the Appalachian Trail.
Stopped in for lunch. Great flavor friendly service! Will be back soon!!
Great food & friendly service
Delicious food, knowledgeable staff, and quick.
Yummy Indian food with vegan options available upon request!
Pretty average food over here..
Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes were fantastic.
Ambiance was good. Waited for like around 10 minutes to get the table. We ordered chicken jalfrazzi which is so bland and keema mutter curry is just okay. The 2 type of Naan are just average. Not gonna visit yours restaurant unless there is no other restaurant option in that area. Prices are high as well.
It was only my 2nd time having India but it was very good. Great service, food, and drinks!
Their food is incredibly flavorful. Always fresh and hot, and the portions are great. Try it, you won't be disappointed. If you are unsure what to order, start with the tandoori chicken or chicken tikka masala.
Very very slow service...place ur order and sleep. Very rude staff. Food was good but after spending an hour on the table waiting for food you don't see the worth. Avoid!
I love Indian food and the staff here do an incredible job preparing their dishes, definitely worth the stop in.
The food is delicious. Friendly people and they remember what you like too!
La comida es deliciosa! Tal vez es mejor llevar y comer en casa!
Very good. Vegan friendly.
Decent food
The staff had worst behavior. They will treat non-indians with smiling faces. But their smile disappears when they see an indian customer. Their behavior was rude to us as if they are doing us a favor. Regarding food, it is the worst food I ever tasted. The matar paneer was horrible and the aloo in aloo paratha was not cooked at all. I would recommend going to other indian restaurants in that area.
Due to reviews describing the food as bland, we almost didn't go here, but then we were able to smell the restaurant from about a block away. It smelled amazing, and usually, if you can smell an Indian restaurant, the food is amazing. I got the saag paneer, and my friend got the chicken vindaloo. Both dishes were extremely flavorful, and they also believed us when we asked for our dishes to be spicy (something most Maine restaurants won't). The food was really delicious, and the wait staff was perfectly attentive and friendly. They also had dishes on the menu that I've never seen before, and would love to try now that I know the restaurant is so good.
Staff is a tad pushy and ignorant by teh food is 8/10 really good.
The food was pretty good. If I had not visited the men's room, I may have concidered a second visit. The bathroom in that joint could have been authentic Calcutta.
I used to come here almost every Sunday for the 4 years i went to school here. The keema mattar is amazing and the rest of the food on the menu is also fantastic. I couldnt believe that the staff there remembered me after 11 years. My wife and i had a great meal here. Ill be back the next time im in hanover.
Delicious Indian food: vegan, seafood, lamb options, as well as delicious traditional Indian appetizers and desserts. Always so flavourful.
Very good lunch special
Very kind reception and quick service. Thank you so much
Good food
I have been a regular here since they opened last Spring but in the last few months have found myself bored with the blandness of the food. Having had to travel to Portland and Brunswich for Indian food, I was thrilled by my first meal at the Jewel of India and at the thought that I would not have to drive an hour to get good, flavorful Indian food. The herbs and spices in the marinaded meat and the sauces were fresh and aromatic and ample. But by my second or third visit I found that no longer to be true and when I asked to have more herbs and spices in the preparation I got a smiling nod and "Spicy, yes!" and enough cayenne pepper to blow a Mexican's ears off. The service is fast... too fast. If you order soup, bread, a beverage, and an entre the soup will come first but before you can take three spoonfuls here comes the bread and the entre and and the drink. By the time you finish the soup your bread and entre are stone cold,. I have tried without success to get my entre held in the kitchen until the first course is completed. At this restaurant they apparently take to too much to heart criticism of slow service. On a more positive note, both the chicken and lamb served in the various non-vegetarian dishes has always been fresh, gristle and fat free, and extremely tender. It could use a longer sit in the marinade before cooking though.
Worst service I've experienced in my life. A drink I ordered was missing from my delivery, and when I called, just got yelled by an angry man who hung up on me. Will never eat here again.
"BEST FOOD EVER"!!!!!!!!
Chai tea and chicken biryani is bomb
Excellent Indian dinner, reasonably priced
We have been to a lot of Indian resturants in our lives and this is one of the best ones from our experiences. Their food and atmosphere is on point. Cusomer service was exceptional. One of the best if you are visiting the VT, NH area.
My favorite Indian restaurant out of the four I frequent. Great food!
I had the buffet tried everything it was very good
You're going to end up losing all the money in your wallet go into this place but you're going to have some real traditional Taste of India and in my eyes that's good good people and very respectful
Pretty good food, very small space but friendly service.
Really bad Indian food....They charge you for pickle as well
My favorite restaurant, amazing staff and delicious food.
Great food, friendly staff, quick service. All around an excellent choice. The Sunday buffet is great too, even a good option for vegetarians.
Horrible experience. They were rude and not hospitable at all. They asked us if it was our last order at 8:45 pm, when the restaurant actually closes at 10 pm. They didn't even care to ask us if we wanted to order a dessert or if we liked the food. The food was underwhelming. Some curries were over seasoned while some were under seasoned.
Always delighted with the staff, eats and amazing scintillating smells
Be sure to get the Naan and Puri. The Mango Lasse is delicious. Small beer selection. The food was delicious and had some for leftovers. Enjoyed sitting on their patio.
Showed up at this place @ 9:25 on a Saturday. The sign says they close at 10. We were seated but told several times that they close at 10. The guy was very rude about it and made us feel uncomfortable. He told us we could order take out but we took our business elsewhere and I suggest you do the same.
Really good prices for appetizers, entrees, and desserts so you can try a lot of things. Everything I had was pretty good. Coconut soup is
Absolutely fantastic meals! I had the Thali house non-vegetarian and it was simply amazing! If you order this, bring your appetite. Staff was very friendly and even had a visit from the owner who was very pleasant. My wife had the chicken tikki masala and she raved about that one as well.
Delicious and fresh. Authentic Indian food.
Honestly got so excited when the food came—very tasty!
Worked here when they first opened for about a week. Saw owner use his unwashed hands to scoop rice onto plates multiple times. The chutney does not get replaced or cleaned between uses all night, we were instructed to bring it back and top it off in the kitchen and wipe down the outside to make it look new and clean but you're eating chutney that another table was eating. Leaving a tip? That goes into the owner's pocket.
The naan was amazing, and I enjoyed the chicken tikka masala.
As someone who loves Indian food, Maine has very few Indian restaurants and even fewer good ones. The Jewel of India is one of the good ones. When i first went there about 9 months ago they had just opened, service was slow and the food not very good. Recently I gave them a second chance and to my surprise the food is now much better, the service has also improved 100%. I now eat here as often as i am able. Having lived in India and eaten in London's best Indian restaurants i know what good India food should taste like. The Jewel of India is getting close to that taste and quality.

If you are looking for Indian food in the Upper Valley your options are slim. This place offers the fix for those in search of the flavorful and spicy traditional dishes at a reasonable price. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating as well as takeout. Service was ok. It is located right off the beaten path in Hanover with plenty of street parking to be found.
Gucci, Prada, etc... They have it all!!
I heard the owner of this restaurant called the police on children for being on the roof, also I highly discourage children being within the workplace
Great hosts, food was amazing. Give it a try you will not be disappointed.
Awesome curries!!! Great price for lunch
My girlfriend and I went to this gem of a place not in a hurry on date night. Results....Jewel of India is my new favorite place to eat. Out of pretty much every restraint I've been to in the upper valley, they're food tasted best, largest portion sizes and the price was cheaper than we usually pay on date night. Our server, (who I shamefully can't remember her name,) was one of the sweetest most polite people that I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with. I will absolutely frequent this establishment. A+++ Thank you for the wonderful experience.
Probably one of the few Indian restaurants in the location. Nice ambience with authentic Indian decor. Food tasted okay and felt pricy for the quantities served.
3 colleagues out for lunch. It'd been a while. All liked the food. All enjoyed the moment. Good times.
Good food, fairly timely
Came from New York. This is better than anyplace I've ever had in New York. The food was great. The service was great. The naan is exeptional and chicken biryani is really too good. The mango lassi is really good. Will definetly come back to this resteraunt the next time I come to Maine.
Excellent food every time! Well worth the wait.
This is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the country. Always happy with whatever I order! Highly recommend.
Food is great, prices are a little high for the portions though.
Any chances I get to bring clients here, I do. It's been delicious every single time - I'm a little boring in that I only order the Chicken Curry, but why mess with perfection? Today I found out I can do take out, which is terrible because now I'm going to order lunch there all the time and bring it back to my office. I highly recommend!
I love their food nd they oll are very kind peoplez but their bread maker tandoori man iz a ass hole
I want to give it negative stars. I have been living here for five years now, and never once did I have a good experience food quality wise and service wise. Yesterday was cherry on top, so I am writing this review. (I gave some time before I wrote the review to be objective, but still it feels bad.) I ordered paneer chilli. Now, in no place in the world you would expect a food item that has word "chili" in it to be sweet unless mentioned otherwise. Not only the paneer chilli was sweet, but it was unpalatable and clearly hastily-made, and they charge 13.95 freaking dollars for this!! And get this, they use ketchup to make it sweet!!! Oh dear lord!! My complaint later was handled poorly by the staff. This place needs a major overhaul. By the way, I'm from India.
I thought the food was excellent! I never had lamb with spices and Peaches before-awesome! The rice is special with fennel seeds, and I liked the coconut soup also
Great food, decent service
Pretty average Indian restaurant with average food. Hosts are polite and the ambience is simple.
Great food. Nice clean with good service
Very good!! Large portion of food but it came out quite a bit of time later.
Taste was okk not that good
Good food. Friendly folks help you to understand menu choices. Great place to bring friends.
Good food... I would rate it 4 for the food and 3 for the overall experience.
I love the food here, but the service is terrible - slow and, to be honest, kind of rude. I learned a while back not to dine in or order delivery (which they only offer occasionally). So I only order to-go from this place when I can pick it up.
Really fantastic food, and priced better than the competition in the area when it comes to ethnic food offerings. The food is ready quickly. The delivery area is limited but it’s worth the drive to pick it up.
My wife and I visited for the first time and both enjoyed our meals immensely. The leftovers reheated well too so I enjoyed it two days in a row!
Awesome Chicken curry. The taste was on point. Home made garlic flat bread was a great add. If you want authentic Indian cuisine this is the place to go.
What a great Indian Restaurant. There is a nice ambiance inside and the owners and staff are wonderful. The food is amazing with great bread dishes to start off with; I like the Nan. The Curries are out of this world. If you like Indian food you will love it here.
This was the best and tastiest food! I've had great Indian food but this blew everything out of the water! Fast service with inexpensive options. I highly recommend the Mulligatawny soup with garlic naan.
Had the chicken chilly, which was ok ok. The garlic naan was great. Had the chicken curry which was delicious. The lamb Rogan josh was pretty tasty as well. Would recommend this to anyone.
Went here for lunch yesterday, staff was very nice, restaurant was clean and the food was delicious. Best Indian food in central Maine! Thanks for the delicious lunch :)
This restaurant worked its way into my life as my go-to comfort food. The paneer masala is my favorite and a safe recommendation for finicky eaters hesitant to try something new. They have plenty of gluten free options, as many of their recipes calls for chickpea flour rather than wheat flour. However, ask the waitstaff about ingredients, as the menu isn't very clear about gluten or allergens.
I love this place.
Delicious food, generous serving sizes (leftovers, yay!), huge menu to choose from, and really friendly service. Highly recommend.
Solid Indian food in small town Hanover!
They were very busy on a Friday night but the staff was still so welcoming and friendly (1st time having takeout instead of dining in)
Love their brunch!
Perfect
This is THE place to go for Indian food in the Upper Valley! The spices are exactly right and the service is friendly. There are plenty of vegetarian options as well as those with meat, so it's an excellent place to go for a meal if you're in a group with varying dietary preferences. I'd make specific recommendations, but every meal I've ever had here was great. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area!
Not much atmosphere. Shy server who didn't engage. Had no idea what I was getting into with the menu. Good OK.
Jewel of India has the best Indian food I've ever had. I feel the food was reasonably priced, it had great ambiance, but most importantly, the food was amazing.
This place is fantastic!! Their curry is the best I've ever had! I got the lamb curry and it was perfect. Our waitress was very friendly and refilled our waters multiple times without ever being asked to. My fiance and I will definitely be returning for more curry!!!
The only one of it's kind.
Did a takeout on a Sunday evening and the staff were helpful, attentive (even for takeout) and friendly... and quick! Great food, cooked the way we like it. Looking forward to dining in the restaurant soon.
Everything was spiced very well. Delicious! Best Indian food I've had in years!
We were a party of five. Three chose lamb dishes, two chose chicken. Everyone LOVED their meals. The sauces were distinctive. Each of the lamb dishes had it's own savory, spicy curry. The chicken special was served in a fabulous sauce that had coconut blended in. It's a great spot. We had a delightful server who demonstrated great patience with our questions and requests for advice. The Indian lager, served in generous sized bottles is a perfect beverage with dinner. The local couple in our group took home all of the leftovers carefully placed in individual boxes. They probably had a wonderful second meal!
Very good. Masala sauce quite sweet. Good service. A bit expensive
Very good Indian food.
Awesomeness
The food was super tasty and very spicy if you don't like it super spicy order it mild
Foodie Heaven. Are you in love with the romantic scents of curry and all things Hindi? Then please do not hesitate to partake in this restaurants orgasmic copulation of delectable Indian food that will call to you in your dreams... Namaste~
Looooove this place. So delicious and the people are wonderful.
How this restaurant has a rating of anything less than a 5, I cannot fathom. I have lived in several big cities, including New York, and this place is without question the best Indian food I've ever had. This place is one of the things I miss the most about Hanover. Anybody rating it poorly based on service - the owners don't display phony smiles or grovel at your feet - misses the point: the food is utterly incredible and made expertly from the best ingredients.
Decent food, good place around Vermont to find some indian food..
Love this place. Very good Indian cuisine.
