This Restaurant belongs to the category of Buffet restaurant.
Service was fine. Apple cider Mimosa was ok! Haddock burger and onion rings were great, but the double meat lobster roll wasn't the greatest. Lobster meat was chewy almost with a rubbery texture! I'd suggest if anyone is looking for a great lobster roll to head down by the Ground Round on Odlin Rd and stop at the little side of the road take out. Not only are their lobster rolls to die for, but their fried clams were amazing. It's hard to find a good old deep fried clams, but the ones there are like the ones I remember from when I was a kid.
Always great food. Our hostess, I dont know her name, (the pretty lady with the great nails) is always so sweet and accomadating. Deane, the cook went above and beyond to make us more maple glaze sauce for our chicken. Everyone is so nice.
The bakery portion of the restaurant had quite a few decadent pastries.. The actual restaurant had standard home style fare, with some local seafood. A handful of local brews.. Atmosphere was clean, but really dumpy.. Food was actually good.. Pricing was reasonable
Our server was absolutely amazing ! Not only was he, efficient, knowledgeable and engaging he also went above and beyond getting the cook to make me something that was no longer on the menu. ( biscuits and gravy). My eggs were made exactly as I asked. My husband had the Chicken Potpie and homemade chips and was very pleased. The 4 star rating is because the restaurant could be cleaner.
One of the best places in Bangor to get dessert. The pumpkin cake was delicious and the bakery makes you salivate walking through the door.
Great breakfast buffet Saturday and Sunday never enough French toast sticks
Awesome food and service
Food is hit or miss. The staff is the same. There's this one dude who is creepy as all hell, gives off a weird vibe, and makes you want to leave. If you ever get this fella, you'll know. Overall, if you're looking for a generally decent breakfast buffet, this is a good place to go. But, some days, the buffet is below standard, so buyer beware. I'd say the rate for a bad experience is maybe 1 in every 10.
Food was just passable. Some dishes were off and had to be sent back. Some dishes were served not fully cooked. This restaurant disappointed us. Not what we remembered in the past.
Comfort food at it's best.
Crispy sweet potato waffle fries
This is a great place to take your kids! Good food as well as a comfortable family atmosphere!
Good food. Good prices
Slower service this day... same great food & value
Excellent food & excellent service, as always!
Good food. Great customer service. Good prices. Lots of options.
We were a party of18, every one had a different order.. all came out perfectly . The service with great, the food was great, OMG on the desserts we took home ..
Awesome seafood and service
Eh. Not impressed. Not horrible but no where near good. A glorified dennys. I'd recommend going somewhere else. Maybe McDicks its just across the road....
Great food and service
I ate the breakfast buffet was sub-par cost me 13.XX... Do not recommend.
Food was fine, was understaffed which resulted in them being overstressed. They tried hard but management clearly hadn't planned for what should be an expected crowd right before a black bears hockey game.
Fun for the whole family
Good food, good value
Food and service was good
Good food for the price!
Great food and lots for young kids to do (train table, small Lego buckets, overhead train).
Great food had the $5 Birthday hot chicken Sandwich special. Served in a blink of an eye. Thing is very poor planning barely 5:30 and they had run out. Many unhappy patrons left.
Bugs in food....I walk into the restaurant around 720ish today sit down and got a glass of water. I was looking on the menu when the person next to me called over the waitress while I was looking at the menu. He showed her there was a bunch of bugs in his food. The waitress looked at the food and gave a grotesque look. After that I didn't order anything and walked out. Some how not only did the cook miss a bunch of bugs in someones food, but he prepared it. Then the waitress serves it to the customer and after the 2 people that it went through no one noticed bugs. Why the heck is bugs in your food. This is a extremely serious problem to not be taken lightly. I use to come here about 4 times a month. I am never stepping foot back in that restaurant. I hope the health dept has a field day with this. That's pretty gross guys...
Delicious food ,great service, clean better hurry and add. To your family favorites if you haven't tried this rest you're missing out. We ordered the Friday special fried haddock with fries and added a side salad
Prices getting high and selections are fewer
Great service. Good food. Love the deserts.
Amazing food. Amazing service!
Very kid friendly, super nice and efficient waiter, food was good. My grandson loved the train on the wall.
Lobster in roll was soaked in a heavy disgusting mayo ruined the lobster. Big bites of mayo on bread. The lobster looked old and stringy no big chunks. I think we smelled it one the way in was a very foul smell coming from the entrance. On the other hand fried clams were very good! Service was great!
Great local Maine tradition. Service and atmosphere is warm and friendly. Great value on a hearty menu. And VERY CLEAN.
Yummy food really fair pricing ..friendly to kids ...cute fish tank..
Great haddock chowder and wife loves the lobster stew. Taking dessert back to the hotel with us. Enjoy watching the train travel around the restaurant.
Good food, good price.
This is one of those secret gems of a place! It was obvious that the food was very fresh and expertly prepared with love! Tender yet crisp hand cut fries, moist, golden brown fried shrimp. I am pickey, yet I tipped the server AND the cook! Excellent food in every way!
Food portions are too small. Food was overcooked. Waitress kept forgetting us & items we asked for.
Food is good, reasonably priced, and a wide selection. A great place to bring the family to. Be sure to check out their desserts!
I love this place! Good food, good prices, great service!
I loved this place i have gone there since i can remember i love the staff and everything
One of our favorite places to visit when we come home. The food is reasonably priced and the portions are big. My favorite part about this restaurant is that you can get breakfast all day. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. They always turn the train on for the kids.
We had 12 people and everything was hot and great
Always delicious!
Great food and great service
If your not in a hurry.. SLOW SERVICE...
The food is always fresh and amazing. the service is fast and the portions are HUGE
Food was good The service was good. I was stuck here for a few hours because of a storm that was blowing through. (I was on a motorcycle trip) The staff had no problem with me and my girlfriend hanging around for a few hours.
A Maine Tradition, not the best, but always good and consistent.
Breakfast was great. Pies and cakes looked delish!
Cakes, Pies, All u can eat Buffet, Order from Menu
Good food, good service and good atmosphere
Over priced and quite surprised at the abnormal small portion of the meal I ordered especially when it was a seafood platter. I won't go there again.
Friendly and attentive staff, many items on their menu to choose from, lobster stew had big chunks of lobster in it, kettle chips were great, and desert sizes are amazing! Overall a great experience! Will need to come back.
Great service and great portions for the prices! Went there with family and had the banana split and it was so big I could barely finish it. Another family member had a slice of cake and it was huge. Definitely would recommend going here!
Friendly service, good eats. The grandkids like it there
Good selection & price
I call for take out. Asked for onion rings got fries. The meat was dryed out and cold.
Great wait staff, food is just average, but the deserts are amazing!
Nice variety but quality of servers can vary
I do love this place but my go to Govs is in Old Town maine..Bangor is great..dont get me wrong...if ur a breakfast perosn..ask for Monty the cook he is the BK(breakfast king) there. Old town is amazing not only due i work there i eat there all the time..clean an friendly people come join us sometime..
Excellent food and service, great comfort food
Good comfort food
FISHERMAN'S PLATTER HAS decent amount of seafood although it was piled onto VERY COLD FRENCH FRIES. DINNER ROLLS WERE VERY GOOD. HOMEMADE POTATO CHIPS WERE EXCELLENT. DINNING ROOM HAS VERY OLD CARPET WITH A TERRIBLE FUNKY ODOR. Very nice new vinyl flooring in entrance / bakery area. TIME TO CHANGE OUT THAT SMELLY CARPET. SMELL RUINED WHOLE EXPERIENCE SO WE WON'T BE BACK. STAFF WAS FRIENDLY AND EFFICIENT.
Good food and people
Great hostess! Good breakfast.
Worst buffet ever it was cold not much of selection very expensive for nothing to eat had to wait n it seemed like forever for something to come out very busy morning when they should be prepared for days like this. Won't be going back
Food is at great price, it's easy to eat here for less than $15 per person, however the quality isn't always there. In my experience, every third or fourth time I eat here, I don't enjoy the meal. I originally was going to give Governor's 3-stars, however, their desserts are their saving grace. All of their cakes, pies, and other sweets are wonderful, and I can confidently say I've never had a bad dessert here.
The atmosphere of Governors is that it's always a fun time. I went on a Friday morning, having a great host and good coffee. The only thing that went slightly wrong was an entire onion cut into two halves was in my omelet. Wasnt diced or sliced up into bite sized pieces, but two halves of an onion. This was the first time that this has happened so it was a first for me. I managed to half of one of the halves in one bit....that definitely surprised me. All in all, from previous experiences this Governors will never fail you. But if it's on a busy day, they may forget a few things....
Governor's is awesome! My FAVORITE is the weekend breakfast buffet. Great selection of food and everything is yummy!! Seriously, there is something there for everyone, even the pickiest eaters!! Check it out!!
We had a birthday dinner there in their group area. Friday night, we were a group of 15+. The food was good as always and the waitress was doing as good of a job as she could have. I think for a group this size they probably should've had two waiters though. Probably won't use govenors for their large group space again, but we'll be back as a regular dining group for sure.
WE love the goveror's
We love their Monday burger special! Cheaper than fast food, and you cannot begin compare the quality of the food.
Server was great. Food came out cold. And nothing like the picture.
Clean fast friendly service! Food cooked to order.
Great food and wonderful staff.
Not what it once was. Used to be good portions, good food at a fair price. Now it's fair food, average portions for more money. You can always tell when someone new took over. Nothing special, average place.
Good food good Bakery Pleasant atmosphere
Leah was the best waitress! Food yummy.
Friendly service, lunch was pretty pricey but food was good
First time I tried a lobster roll and it was fantastic.
Decent food. Great service.
Customer service was great but the food was very sub-par. The coffee was hot and they kept our cups full.
Great food. Awesome customer service. Very nice people.
Very good food. Had the fish chowder and sandwich it was superb!
Expensive for two adults and two children. The food was okay I definitely had better.
The breakfast buffet is fresh and plentiful. At $11 it well worth the price.
Quantity is awesome food was cold this was not the first time like this. Family atmosphere is excellent
A great place for good comfort food with a nice variety of choices. Desserts are wonderful!
Had the Ruben sandwich. Could have shared it since it was too big so took half home. Also took the Whoopy pie for dessert. Very nice restaurant with a nice atmosphere. They have a bakery as well.
Had mixed feelings about the restaurant. The meals themselves were good. However our waitress was not trained all that well. Did not bring us sour cream and butter for our baked potato, had to ask, not that bad. Then ordered gingerbread cake for dessert. Was to come warmed w/whipped cream. We got neither.
I don't like the eggs I found hair in my eggs....eww but I love the strawberries
It was ok but not really worth the money. To pay what you do for the sea food and get crinkle cut Fry's from a bag that are still cold in the center not really cool. Same with mashed potatoes they were clearly reheated in a microwave. Staff was great but not great enough I'll go back anytime soon
Egg's Benedict is BAD not using Canadian bacon. Using salty ham instead. That's not what the menu said. I don't remendy anyone having it.
Always great! We love our local Gov'nah's
Good food friendly staff clean restrooms recommend!
Governor's was always a place for my Pepe to walk to from the Bangor Gardens once a month or per week before he died to share joy and happiness and ale with his best friends before he died and my Meme. I was 14 and everytime I go to Governor's now, I always remember my Pepe and Meme. My Pepe has serious bodily injuries was working in a factory and serving our country and was a great man raising kids that weren't his own, adopting them and then leaving everything to them. He was a true French Catholic Man for the Paradis family of Old Town to be proud of and every Knight of Columbus should kneel at his grave for his sacrifices. I always envied his excitement to get away to Governor's. I was very young and always begged to go or to ask if my Pepe would bring me something back from Governor's or Baldacci's at the time or even that building in front of Baldaccis to get me a movie. I love my Pepe, and I love Governor's Restaurant for being there for the little people back in the day to give them the excitement to go somewhere outside of home like us younger people do for video games. Thank you Governor's for bringing happiness to my Pepe.
Decent food at great prices
I really like this restaurant. Food is good and the staff is very helpful. And the service is great.
Awesome breakfast
The food was excellent. Had a breakfast mix. Service was quick, pancakes were fluffy, toast was crisp and dry so I could add to my preference. Bacon was crispy perfection and service was fast and friendly.
This is an excellent restaurant that offers a wide array of options, to include breakfast all day. Pricing is very reasonable and the atmosphere is fun...kids will be happy here....a model train runs around the perimeter of the dining space and tere is also a fish tank to check out.
What a tasty place
I love this place. Food is great and awesome service.
Food is good and hot. I worry about the cleanliness overall mostly due to there carpeting. People are friendly. Prices are reasonable.
Ate here a lot when I went to Husson. Not much has changed. Service is good, the food is delicious and plenty of desserts to chose from.
Good comfort food that is reasonably priced.
Very good food and prices every thing is always good no matter what you get and you are always treated with respect.
One of my party's meal was dried out turkey and cold. The waitress readily agreed and had it replaced The waitress was very good. The decor looked old and tired The food was so so.
Whoopie pie feastavel was awesome
Lunch special for their June birthday/anniversary featured perfectly fried scallops with crispy crinklecut fries at a very reasonable price for seafood. Portions are modest yet sufficient. As a late lunch, the crowd had thinned.
Great food and price
Good food for a fair price, friendly staff. There specials are the best!
Always a family favorite, great portions, good atmosphere wheelchair accessible building, clean bathrooms
Christine and Haley are incredible waitresses at Governor's Restaurant! Governors appear to be clean, the staff was very polite, and the food was good. The train track that goes around the top of the restaurant is always treat to see!
I will not return to this restaurant!! The food is over priced, small portions and the waitress was rude. I paid 8.50 for a lg ceaser salad with cardboard croutons. It was more like a side salad! Unreal I also ordered at LG. Chicken fingers meal with fries and coleslaw for 12.50. The fries are offal the chicken fingers were cold and taste as if they were cooked hours ago and the coleslaw never came to my table. The soda was flat!! The roll was chewy and overcooked!! I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN you couldn't pay me to eat at that place again...
Friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Had a very new waitress =/. Maybe I should have ordered what others recommended (seafood), but unfortunately ordered a salad. The veggies were underwhelming and it was and iceberg/romaine mix, would have loved to have some mixed greens.
The food is decent, the service is more than adequate, the portions are very generous and the prices are reasonable..
Good family fare. Great service!
Took 45 mins to get 2 orders of sliders and onion rings and there wasn't hardly anyone in the place REALLY DISAPPOINTING. GONE DOWN HILL.
Wonderful food, wonderful service, overall great! :)
Great food never left hungry
Great food, Great service. Would recommend
Great food, fast service, super friendly! Haven't been for years and they did not disappoint!
Okay food and service.
Very good food, good prices, good atmosphere, very friendly service
Good food and service
Grate service, and very good food,at a reasonable price. I'd recommend it to anyone. Save room for dessert.
Very new place. Large portions. Happy environment
Ham club was delicious!
I've been to governors quite a few times since I was a kid. This last time was probably enough to kill the nostalgia of going. I ordered fried chicken each piece was barely more then fried chicken skin. The wait staff was unfriendly, and the noise from the aircondtioner or hood vent in the area they seated us in was deafening.
Gone there a while and it's good service and food
Incredible burger. Great service.
Food very good, service was quick & staff very friendly. Worth the stop
I used to come here as a kid all the time, and I loved it. Went for breakfast this morning, thank God for unlimited refills on coffee since your pancakes aren't fluffy at all and they're dry as a bone. Gave it another try for dinner and stopped in with my parents before going to a movie. Waited 40 minutes for your Haddock sandwich special tonight. The waitress checked back at 20 minutes and assured us that our food would come out hot..... Okay... That should be a given. After waiting a total of 40 minutes we got up and told the Assistant manager to cancel our order and that I would still pay for the drinks. She apologized and told us not to worry about it. It's sad, they were fairly busy but it should never take 40+ minutes to slap a piece of fried haddock on a bun.
Governor's is the ideal Maine local chain for comfort food. I'd be lying if I said it was about the dinners. Governor's is all about the desserts. Large pieces of cake, pie, brownies, and many other baked goods.
Great food, very much a Maine restaurant.
The food was definitely good but the waitress made me feel rushed. She set the check down and not even 30 seconds after she came back asking if I was ready to pay. I don't like feeling rushed when I go out to eat
Previously I posted it needed improvements but my daughters go to Sunday breakfast. It has vastly improved since my last post 6 months ago. Service & upkeep standards. Customers satisfaction.
This restaurant used to be one of the best places to go to get a very large portion for a very fair price. It seems now that the price has gone up and the food portion has gone down. The food is still good but the quality seems to have gone down hill a little bit over the years. Still a very nice casual restaurant and they do a lot to give back to the community they are apart of.
Okay. I think the one in Waterville is much better & worth the extra drive.
You can never go wrong with Governor's
Very pricey, but good food!
Good for let get something to eat place
I had haddock sandwich. It was pretty good. Others in my party had the Reuben ,and the turkey dinner. We all like the meals. Seems to me,the dinning area needs a update tho.
The maple chicken poutine was AMAZING. The staff was AMAZING. Keep it up Governors!!
Always have a great meal when eating here. The staff is always friendly and the prices are great. Would recommend eating here any time of the day because all their food is good!
Really good food and really friendly staff. Portions are enormous but, likewise, a little pricier than what you'd expect
Great food and reasonable prices.
Best lobster rolls
Not the best, but still good comfort food and a cozy atmosphere
I love the breakfast
Great yeast rolls as always!
Good food. Huge portions. There is always a nightly special. They have a good selection on the breakfast buffet every weekend. They regularly have special events that happen. They also do a special buffet for holidays like Easter, mother's day, Thanksgiving. The desserts are great and are also huge.
Try their maple chicken poutine. It is out of this world good.
While reasonably priced, their food is of average quality. The portions are always plenty large. I had a slice of blueberry pie that wasn't very good - the pie was very cold and the crust was ridiculously thick. Stop for a meal but give the blueberry pie a pass.
Decent food fair prices good service..
New menu additions and super wait staff.
Very good meal! We had to take desserts home!
I've been going to Governor's for decades. Great food. Friendly and efficient staff.
Took 1-1/2 hours to get out meal that I ordered take out. Very stressful. Manager didn't charge and have free desert. Got home after 2 hours and stuff missing. Also applesauce that was out side dish was burnt so bad if both had to be thrown away. I was going to bring it in but not sure I want to return again.
Old style place with good food
The food was good - not great, but good and good value.
Tasty salad and gingerbread for later at home. Good service.
Great food
Food was good. Service was great. Wide variety of options. Large portions.
Buffet well worth it, FRESH food continuously brought out. Everything looks to be home made.
Awesome food! Gotta try the mozerrella sticks, strawberry lemonade and then a meal of fitting. Then just as your ready to leave grab an awesome desert to go. Ther girls there are always pleasant!
Great food great service
Nice location. Friendly staff. Rubbery lobster.
Yummy Always! Great service....
It's a very nice place to go to with family and friends. The service was excellent.
Great place, clean, friendly, great food, great specials, awsome sweets
Plenty of food at reasonable prices. The service is always excellent. A hearty breakfast of Eggs Benedict is a great way to start the day!
Always great service. The only complaint was the broccoli was mushy.
Group order and food was all set for our hungry mouths. Excellent deserts
Excellent customer service and food
It was great as always
The food is great and governors and the staff is very pleasant and service is always very good.
Great food and the staff are always friendly. It was always a favorite of my childhood. I moved to Seattle a few years ago and I still crave the Lobster roll. However, I recently visited the restaurant on a visit home and was bitterly disappointed to find all the portraits of the Governor's removed! I have always been a bit of a history buff and even as a kid looking at the portraits was something I loved. I totally understand wanting to keep the company updated, fresh, and relevant, but it seems too much of a change to completely remove all the Governors! In my honest opinion, the company can find ways to update without changing entirely. Update and refresh, but don't abandon Maine Governors.
Very delicious foods like its all homemade
Excellent home made cook food & desserts & dinner rolls cooked on location!!!! Yum!!!!
Mother's Day buffet was excellent....prime rib was perfect...very happy
Very friendly great food
This place is trash. Bread and rolls are cooked in Braintree, Massachusettes, not in house as is falsely advertised... Dirty establishment. Owner spends 0 money on sanitation, takes vacations instead. Prices for pre-portioned microwaved food are unrealistic, and mangement is too busy smoking weed with staff out back to care about your concerns. Dont reccomend this place. Dysarts (either location) is much better, homemade, and the money goes back to the people who worked for it, not to the pockets of the owner.
Excellent food and price. I've never left dissatisfied.
Delicious food. Excellent service. I hope to visit again soon.
Food is excellent, warm, tasty, good portions, etc. The deserts and baked goods are to die for!! Atmosphere is family oriented and comfortable.
Good food but slow service but worth 3 stars
Good food at fair prices.
Like any Governors restaurant. The food is average and priced a little high for what it is. There is usually great service though. And their baked goods are amazing.
It's not what it used to be. These days that just seem to be phoning it in and when your making the kind of fried generic food they serve, you have to be at the top of your game or there are a dozen other places nearby doing it better.
Clean, waitress very nice and prompt.clean bathroom. Potato tot dish was so good. Meatball grinder was so good. Thank you for filling our bellys for the rest of our drive north.
Monday burgers deal is excellent.
Great experience fast service and great food had the buffet great deal for only like 10 something would differently recommend
I got sick from the food at the buffet. I will never go again.
Very clean, comfortable atmosphere with prompt courteous staff
Great staff all around. Good service, good food, good atmosphere.
Was driving around with the wife learning our new town and came across Governor's - and very thankful we did! This is like a Denny's, in that it's a greasy spoon type menu, but with the quality and service of a mom and pop shop. Plis, they have a bakery! Overall, very impressed and will return.
Went for breakfast and it was terrible. Burnt eggs, old bacon and messed up orders. Gave it two stars because the coffee and orange juice was fine.
Great service, homemade food.
Bangor one was disappointing. Ridiculously slow service since they weren't busy. Server kept waking by; seemed like she was ignoring us. Food order was wrong. Old Town one is much better.
I love this place. I've been going there since I was little. They're very friendly and make you feel at home. You always get plenty. They're so helpful and very observant towards drinks. It's such a classic place.
Excellent service didn't even get to finish roll and haddac dinner was served. That's fast
Great food!
The food and prices here were amazing. Best place to eat in the area.
We went for June specials night.. had claims meal.... was delicious.
I had a great experience! Took advantage of the lobster roll special... Bought two and some fries. Fifteen bucks! Long line but it went pretty darn fast. Hope they do this again soon!
Excellent food, great service and fair price.
It was awesome as always.Patrick gave us "the best possible" service...he always does and thats why we ASK for him personally. The haddock special was great!
Governors has been a Bangor staple for years.. the food is good the staff is good and a couple of the waitresses are wonderful... I'll be in there again..
It's like home. Enjoy the chowder and fried fish. The manager is a sweetheart. Always treated well
Great food and reasonable pricing. Friendly staff brings us back often.
Got a large clam basket and a large scallop basket today. Very satisfied with everything. The portions were large and everything was super fresh tasting. Cole slaw was perfect. Rice was eh ok. The giant creampuff was a great finish to the meal. Great eats and their breakfast is awesome too. Had breakfast there last week while waiting for an oil change at VIP next door.
They were very nice with our large indecisive group. The menu is comfort food with some local favorites and a couple good salads. The desserts are a highlight for our family. I recommend coming just got dessert a separate time because you probably won't have room after a heavy dinner.
Fair prices and good home style food. I had an open faced turkey sandwich with gravy and it was everything I needed for lunch-could’ve been dinner-good portions. Wish we would’ve save room for dessert the cabinets were full of delicious looking cakes, pies and whoopie pies.
“ I ordered cheesy bites and waited 20 minutes to hear that they dropped them on the ground but I got them cause I waited 30 minutes”
Governor's need to update their website. We went on Tuesday for the fried clams. There was 7 in our party and, being out of state Governor's was recommended for clams. Clams are no longer the special on Tuesday, instead it was fish chowder! The manager explained the high price of clams was the reason they were not offered. I think he missed my point completely what the website said,he served us some complimentary onion rings. We ordered the lobster roll and some ordered the chowder. The lobster roll was dry and very skimpy, had a lot of lettuce for filler. We finished our lobster before the others got their chowder, after they had to ask for it! Had to ask for drink refills. If it hadn't been for some having to catch a plane we would NOT have ordered and walked out. What a disappointment. Btw clams still on the website. Step it up Governor's.
I ordered the Buffalo boneless wings, a burger with fries, and a milkshake and was thoroughly satisfied with the service and food, the only complaint I have is the burger slightly dry, otherwise they nailed it.
Priced right, food is pretty good for a family resterant
This is a nice family restuarant. Had lunch here on our way to bar harbor. Their maple chicken and sweet potato poutine is a must try. The beef patties in the burger were a little dry. Grilled chicken and rice was delicious. They had a huge selection of desert. We didnt try it as we were stuffed from the large portions of the main course but the desert pics looked mouth watering. This place is very kid friendly. They have a toy train running all around the restaurant.
We always like going to the governor's. Great food great prices. We'll continue to go many more times.
Excellent food and service. I wish it was a little larger. But they do well with the space they have.
Absolutely awesome!
Always great food and prices.
I love this place....awesome lobster rolls, fried clams, coleslaw and fries....sadly I only look at the desserts...but they look scrumptious....
Okay. I got the lobster roll. It was about 19 dollars and wasn't anything to write home about. Wasn't bad, just wasn't great.
Service was good, the food was great, served in timely manner. Money to portion size very economical and would come back again.
Great food and plenty
Perfect place for lunch
Local comfort food, with a relaxed atmosphere. The food is good, portions are large, and prices are reasonable.
Great food this is a great load place for people that love good food and for here that live in the Lewiston
Great food, reasonably priced, friendly wait staff, wonderful baked goods
Great food Fried pickles are the best
alot for your money..Love fish fry on friday
Delicious as always, our waitress was great and may have over heard how excited my friend was about the train as it turned on soon after
Love this place for the meatloaf moutain. Tasty stuff, service is always great, although it could use a renovation badly. But overall the food is amazing.
Their rolls are the best!❤
Love the food n the staff is awesome
Great food for a great value!
Good food as all ways
Good food and atmosphere
Great Haddock Chowder
The food isn’t all that good. The fries and chicken are dry and poutine is basically just gravy and it smells disgusting.
Fried clams were overcooked but still good. Price was great
Always great. Home cooked food for a decent price.
Came in from my daughter's state meet 10 minutes before closing. We apologised for being so late. We were treated like it was 6 pm . Our server Alex was the sweetest young lady and absolutely didn't rush us at all. See this has become a tradition for us after the last state meet...a trip to Governor's for dinner and pie before the long trip home...Thank You for helping keep this 11 year tradition alive...
Love Saturday buffet, Everyone gets just what they want. Awesome for kids, and every age.
Great food as always. Had to wait too long to check out though.
Bangor location was friendly quick and good as usual
The service was extremely slow it took an hour to be waited on and an hour to get food and it wasn't that busy then my wife and daughter ordered a salad and the they didn't have the ingredients to make it with when we finally got our good it tasted good but the rest needs a huge improvement food 5 stars service 2 thus the 3 star rating
Great, fast service! Great food!
Great homemade cooking and prices are great!
My husband& I go every Saturday,we get the buffet always fresh.. lacy,Kathryn,Jeremy always makes us feel like family we give it not only 5 stars but 10 stars .thanks to all the staff for all your hard work
Great food good wait waiter Jason will be back see you don't punch in
,Very good breakfast for mother's day,had the buffet plus I was able to have eggs to order.
Amazing service, as well as amazing food
Breakfast buffet was ok, they say you can order pancakes but dont tell you that you pay separate for them
Enjoyed the yummy lobster rolls.
The food was great, waitress was awesome
Love the buffet and Chad the cook is awsome!!
Great food. Good prices.
Great price on Monday special and nice service.
Friendly, comfortable family environment. Good prices. The blandness and averageness of the food drives me away, though. To be honest, the breakfast food is good and the desserts and baked goods are great. The men's bathroom is spotlessly clean. The quality of the food is the main sore point. I just think Governor's is a little overrated given the average taste of the food.
Good food, great service.
They have the best desserts. As they say stressed spelled backwards is desserts. Eat up cause they are the best!
Restaraunt is starting to feel a little run down. But service and food was good.
Super friendly service. It's a scene.
My husband and I recently dined a Governor's on Broadway in Bangor for breakfast. I have to be honest. The sausge links I had could have used a bit more time on the grill and the quality and taste was just nasty. Also, had very litte home fries on my plate and had to ask for more! In addition, we ordered coffee milkshakes that were less than desirable. I thought coffee milkshakes were made from coffee ice cream. The coffee flavor in the shakes was minimal at best. Sent them back twice and had them removed from the bill. Also, had very litte home fries on my plate and had to ask for more! Thank You for that, at least. We were both very disappointed and agreed that we will not e returning.
Great for a quick stop to fill an empty belly but don't expect much. Most menu items are from frozen, boxed, and canned goods; there are a few items made from scratch. All bakery goods are from scratch and makes your mouth water because they look so good! But buyer beware, my experience was dry carrot cake and gingerbread that was as hard as a brick.
Chicken pot pie is delicious! The servings here are huge. You won't leave hungry
Haven't been to Governor's restaurant in a while because I think their prices have gone up, serving sizes have gone down, and quality isn't any better than I remember from year's ago when I was happy to take my family and get a decent meal for a good price. Decided to go again because the Orono location was convenient for a small family gathering. While prices and portion sizes are still a bit out of balance, the that both my wife and I had, a haddock special, was surprisingly good. Still not my first choice of restaurants but, based on this visit, I'll consider it again when I'm in the area.
Good food, good people
Out of all the Governors restaurants - this is the one with the best breakfasts.
Always a great choice for any meal. Good food, great service and price. Well worth the visit.
Great food, wonderful desserts and fresh baked goods. A Maine landmark, their mountain of meatloaf is magnificent. Great burgers and a amazing breakfast.
Waitress wasnt real attentive, but food was good
Normally a great place but understaffed for mother's Day. Will still go back, possibly just a bad day!
Turkey and trimmings were fantastic
Average food. Great service. Nice diner like atmosphere.
Reasonable prices. Decent food. Good selection
Always love going there desserts are amazing and great food
Always good prices and good food. Wait staff always friendly and polite.
Love their desserts!
Food is always great
Vicki was our server and she was excellent! We loved the food and got a slice of pie to go too. Everything was great! Hash smash and the capital breakfast were so delicious.
Awesome comfort food at a great price!
Just got back from a less-than-stellar experience at Governor’s Restaurant on Broadway, Bangor, Maine. The haddock sandwich I ordered tasted like it had been cooked over a trash fire (it looked like it had been sitting around and been reheated). The sweet potatoes fries I paid an extra $1.50 for were burned and tasted burned - just like the fish. They took it back and brought the same meal but prepared in such a way that it was edible. Ordered an eclair at the price of $4.99 - I could only eat the lemon filling - the chocolate was semi-hard and the pastry was granular. It didn’t look like the eclairs I saw when I first entered the restaurant. In talking with the 2 folks at the bakery area, we finally decided that the $4.99 eclair was in the kitchen and was likely stale. They offered a gift certificate - no thank you, I won’t be coming back to this restaurant.....EVER! Positive note: the waitperson was wonderful and the 2 folks at the bakery section apologized multiple times and tried to make it right (it would have been better if they had taken the cost of that horrible eclair off my bill - paid $4.99 for 2-3 tablespoons of lemon filling - aren’t I brilliant?)
Great food even better service at a fair price.
Its a good place to get food
I love their food! Great taste and big portions!
For medioca food, the prices are ridiculous. I will think again next time about going again.
Love Governor's, never disappoints.
Great Service & Great Food !!!
Sunday morning buffet is always delicious! The apple cobbler hits the spot!
I've been going here for 20+ years. The food is usually very good but sometimes it's a miss. Over the past couple years the service has slowed down. Even when they are not busy it seems to take forever to get your meals and even longer to get the check. With that being said the waiting staff is always very pleasant and their lobster rolls are always delicious.
Food is always good. I was a bit surprised that my slice of pie was so small as other Governor’s they are huge even for take out. Wait staff very helpful when we came in with a large group. Bathrooms clean. Plenty of parking.
It should not take a half hour to get your salad.
One of my favorite places to take the family out to!
Very tasty lunch - wish I lived closer so we could go there more often!
Great local comfort food! Bakery goods were really fresh and good.
Absolutley LOVE that my kids eat for $1.00 on Thursday. I am a single mother and this is a nice treat for us sometimes.
I absolutely love their food! I've tried almost everything on the menu. I especially love their desserts and their pies! Their peanuts butter pie is so delicious:)
Good food
Really out of way but only a mile off 95. Best lobster roll I ever had. Lobster stew also really good
We stopped in for dessert.the ice cream was amazing and the portions are huge. I got a large and it was almost too much for me to finish. Luckily I found the room to finish it up. I would definitely stop back when I am in the area.
Amazing food! We stopped by on a whim and was not disappointed by any means. The food was great, came to the table piping hot and in good portions! We should have taken dessert home! Guess we'll have to stop back out soon!
My heaven's this place is great! Food was fresh and delicious! Our server was perfect! Definitely stop here for some delicious food!
Wonderful restaurant. We have been fans for years. They never fail to impress. The food is delicious and they have an outstanding dessert selection.
I have only tried their new salads, but have found them to be appealing to the eye, and tastey. I appreciate that they offer a gluten-free choice.
Great food and prices, friendly staff, family friendly.
Good food. Great Service
If you like peanut butter.....try the Chocolate Peanut Butter Nightmare. It is amazing!
Comfort food for food lovers. Delicious!
Quick find off the highway! Quickly seated. Food was quick and delicious!
Great food great service
Great food, excellent service scrumptious deserts.
Average, good food. Atmosphere, meh.
Very good food. Excellent wait staff.
Great home style food.
Great food and the waiter was super too!!
Good food good price
i must admit, i am VERY BIASED here. i grew up from 10 to 18 years old not even a 2 minute walk from this restaurant. i am now 53 , so i started going here approximately 45 years ago ( this restaurant, the original, is 60 years old this year, 2019) . it has the classic, stick to your ribs, homestyle cooking. PLUS....... fresh made pies, cakes, pastries. super friendly staff. my friends and i are in a rock band, and we look it... long hair, tons of tattoos, leather jackets, all of it. they treated us great. our waitress was on point. perfect service. the orders were correct and cooked exactly right. enjoy if you are ever in Old Town. or, like me when i lived there, had it in regular rotation.
Always great food and great service!
Good food best peanut butter chocolate pie I've ever had in my life
Good breakfast buffet and nice wait staff.
Food was great and the service was amazing!!
Average food, typical diner food, with a bakery. Everything looks good, but is not noteworthy except for the tasty hash browns.
Good food and good prices. You will NOT go away hungry!
Going here is a family tradition and not to be overlooked. Food is great and desserts are phenomenal.
Food was good.
It was good, but the wings were so small compared to their giant desserts
The Original and the Best. We go here whenever we are in the Old Town area. When I went to school at UMO and lived down the street, Governor's was the place for breakfast and lunch, a true Maine iconic eatery. Working on a full review.
I was very impressed with this restaurant! We went in on a Friday night with my two toddlers, there were several parties in front of us but we decided to wait anyway due to being unfamiliar with the area and not wanting to wind up someplace else where we would wait longer. Within about 10 minutes we were approached to be seated and then we just asked if we would like to sit near the back where there's a train table the kids could play at, so we said sure. They gave the kids some crayons and coloring sheets, and we placed our or but the boys loved looking atders. There's also a saltwater fish tank that the boys enjoyed watching, and staff was very friendly to them and did whatever they could to accommodate them being comfortable during our meal. We spent around $50 for an appetizer for meals and for drinks so I was very impressed with the quality and amount of food we bought for what we paid for it. there was a mistake on my order management offered to take it off the bill completely and I said it wasn't necessary, they had immediately fix the order upon realizing it was wrong and I was more than happy with that. What stuck out to me most was a child about 10 who is sitting in the back doing homework, after a few minutes I realized it was one of the waitresses son, he told my son his babysitter didn't show up so he had to come with Mom. She served him dinner and was helping his homework in between waiting on her tables, which made most of my fiance and I extremely impressed with not only her but the management as well for letting that happen. As a parent I will spend my money at a family-orientated business every single time proudly! We've been back at least once a month sense and will continue doing so I definitely recommend this place to anybody on a budget with small kids and who wants a good plate of home cooked food. Governor's for the win!
great tasting food and friendly staff would go there everyday if i could
Every time my family and I eat here, we leave stuffed and satisfied. We usually try to pick up either a whole pie or something from the bakery. You can't go wrong with either choice. The service is always good, the food is outstanding and the portions are more often than not very generous. I think I have only once had a meal where the plate was not completely covered by food. No matter which one of their locations you choose, if you are honest with yourself, the experience will keep you coming back. Anyone who says different made it hard on themselves! Give them a try, especially if you like a breakfast buffet (weekends only).
The food is so good, very nice people who work there, a place where you can bring family together and enjoy the food...
Had a wonderful lunch everything was great and the server Holly was attentive a quick. Great food, and prompt service always. We will definitely be coming back, the Old Town location, seems better than the one in Bangor too...
I haven't been there yet to eat
A must go-to when in Maine. Food is delicious
My partner had a hair cooked in his eggs he was given a 2ond plate But the sausage was cold transferred from his original plate. His comment on the way home "now i know why i never want to eat st Governors" he was unhappy.
The lady who was training was unfortunately clueless. She forgot a few things but we got it all sorted out. I really enjoyed the food and the breakfast burger does not have a beef patty, at least mine didn't. I got my food to go and it was a bit of a wait but it tasted great. I recommend the biscuit.
Awesome food and atmosphere
Great wait staff, good food. Easy atmosphere.
Usually a great place to eat, not so much tonight. They were out of ham, so no ham dinner and the only vegetable available for the Turkey dinner was broccoli which was totally disgusting, looked and tasted like it was a month old. Also tried something different, a new item on the menu. The new sandwich was very, very dry and the kettle chips were soaking wet. Very disappointed in Governor's tonight.
Wonderful meal and great price! Chris, the waiter, was attentive and polite. Very pleased with service, food, and value.
Great fried seafood and homemade desserts
We were excited to arrive and I decide to go with Monday's cheeseburger special. The waiter did not appear friendly could care less apparently. The burger after one bite was terrible. My girlfriend advised me to send it back. Waiter offered no apology and because of his demeanor I declined to order anything else. In fear he may or already had spit in my food. Terrible experience they should fire that waiter who obviously could care less. Hope you have better luck then I did horrible memory. I'll never eat here again. Doesn't even deserve the one star I gave it.
We come almost every weekend. Food is always outstanding and they have good prices. If your coming for breakfast I recommend the hash smash or the strawberry stuffed French toast! The servers are very friendly, welcoming, and do anything they can to help.
Five stars every time. Nothing says comfort quite like Governor's.
I had a good time. The roasted turkey meal was delicious.
Met friends there for a lunch. Food & service was good. But the reception area was freezing cold waiting for a table as well as waiting to pay for goodies to go.
Excellent service and excellent food. Wonderful comfort food served piping hot.
Love this place. Great food, great prices, great staff, and who doesn't love the train with the gorilla on it. Sinfully delicious desserts, too!
Great food and pricing for burger and fries
Great atmosphere, prices, food; and our waiter, Cody, was extremely likeable and attentive!!
The best food. The best prices. The nicest staff!!
Been coming here since forever. Great food and great family oriented atmosphere. The breakfast buffet is great too
The nicest restaurant in Maine great service delicious food at good prices and there bakery was so good I want back twice for the cream puffs
Good food, good prices, friendly service. Breakfast available all day!
Good food great service
Buffet was just okay food was cafeteria style pretty bland and it was over 10 dollars wouldn't recommmend the breakfast
Love the buffet, it's a large reason why I go as much as I do. Always stocked with good food and the hot cocoa is something to die for during the winter. Many years ago I used to come in as a kid with my parents and I'd always get the chocolate scones because I loved them dearly. One day I asked the waitress if there were any left and the cook felt bad for me so he sent out a Mickey mouse shaped pancake he made himself. The customer service is truly astounding here.
Service is slow....food was not hot but tasted ok
The food was good service was ok. Restrooms were very small and very dirty.
Great food, friendly service & i am soooo full rn ☆☆☆☆
Update:the manager handled the issue and communicated well.
I liked it! Excellent food and service
I love governor's! Large portions of good food at good prices a Maine staple... Dessert is the best part here
Home style meals at a good price
The food here is always a favorite. Good Food for great prices. The space is what needs the tender love in care. If they spent some money to modernize this little place could become a great space for the right active crowd.
Food is always good there and service is prompt. Usually do takeout and it is hot, generous portions, and tasty. Never had a bad meal during the 8 years I've lived here.
Love Governor's best food very friendly and Nice an clean great service
Food was well worth the money
I always love Governor's. When we moved to South Portland 16 years ago, there was one right down the road. We used to take the kids there for dinner when they were little. They loved the train that went around the dining area! I was so sad when Governor's left South Portland. We eat at a Governor's whenever we can.
Great food great and friendly staff
They have excellent dessert, and if you like simple meals, their food is really good.
Good variety of items on the menu! Desserts are always good here!
The mill burger is the best burger I've had in a long time
Its always AWESOME.. I wiah I lived closer so I could go more often..
Had the Turkey special it was very good.
Great food and great service!
The food was good, I think my server was sick? Bc she didn't bring silverware and when taking orders they don't write it down? So asking for sides and extras, you'll have to ask again. It also took almost 20 for our food to come out also. Which they were busy so that was okay. I'll keep going here tho. Usually it's great!!
friendly staff nice baked goods.
The service & food are excellent. But the manager really shouldn't be training new servers where the customers are eating. Some of the lessons aren't appropriate for eating customers to have to listen to. Last night she lectured a new employee on the hazards of e coli just one table away from us, while we were eating hamburgers. She must have mentioned e coli at least 10 times in 2 minutes. It was so disgusting that I couldn't even finish my burger, and it was perfect. Cooked just how I like it.
Always delicious!
Excellent service and good. Very reasonable pricing.
Great affordable family friendly restaurant, every time I go to Governor’s i’m given excellent service and the food always comes out delicious.
Good food, however mediocre service. Many times I have asked for something and not received it, such as today when I ordered the governor burger to-go, a burger with lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and bacon, but instead received a plain burger. I would recommend for the food, but service is inconsistent
Had breakfast buffet so many choices. Food was delicious and service was great.
Soooo very good.
Thanks for an awesome meal Jake ❤️
Good food, good service
The food was okay. Amazing staff that's for sure!
A very good bfast place. Service is good. Prices are fair they have a good point reward system. Jeromy is a good waiter.
Great place for a good inexpensive dinner. Food is good staff is friendly and their pies are great.
Good local favorites, comfort foods and seafood dishes. Awesome deserts. Best bang for your buck when it comes to cost of meal and what's on the plate.
Good food.
Always a pleasure to go to Governor's Restraunt. The food is ok but the staff has always been great to deal with.
Good place to get breakfast all day.
Prices have gone up, wait time has gone up, service has gone down...
I've been coming to Governor's (Old Town location) since I was a child. And the Bangor location is just as good. It's usually pretty busy, so come early if you have things to do after. But the food and service is always just as good as the Old Town location. The first place I stop every time I come home to Maine.
Good food but the bakery prices were insane.
Great portions and good food.
Favorite restaurant in Maine. Especially the one at university of Maine
This place was clean and affordable. The food was good and the bakery had some delicious choices
Kinda bland food, but not inedible. Came was good and portion size of the desserts are great.
Great food and great prices
Monday $5 burger deal is awesome! Fresh burger, soft fresh bun and fries. Delicious and less expensive than "fast food"... Can't beat it.
Has lobster roll was good fries were old and cold.
Staff was friendly and the food was good. Kitchen was fairly quick. 4 stars because the restaurant is tired. Needs an update.
Great food great service
Loved it, great tasting food, good sized portions + good service. Onion rings used corn meal and address homemade which was a plus. Look forward to eating here again.
Very friendly workers and the delicious homemade food is definitely worth going there for!
Great home style cooking. Large portions, terrific desert choices.
Great food excellent service and staff . i could eat here every day.....
Great place to go with a group. The breakfast is great. The food is reasonably priced. Lunch and dinner are pretty good, not the best in the area, but it's great comfort food. It's the perfect restaurant for college students to get a meal that'll fill you up for a decent price. The pies are amazing as well. Go on Sundays when the pie is on sale.
Alway a good meal
Great place for seafood and for dessert you have to have their strawberry pie.
Food was good and the portions were large. They have a fairly large menu which will certainly have something for everyone in your group. Their homemade desserts were delicious and once again the portions were huge. I think next time I visit, I might just start with the desserts, they were so good!
Loved this restaurant! Great service, good atmosphere and delicious food.
Very good food
Have loved the Governors since I was a little girl and is a must every time I visit Maine. The staff is great and the desserts are divine. Small family run business, diner style. Must visit if you are in the area.
Good comfort food! If you like Moody's, you'll like Governor's.
The waitress was not very good. Did not bring out all of our food until we were ready to leave. Never came back to the table until we were ready to leave to see if we needed anything. Won't go back there for a quite awhile.
If you want the best homecooked meal experience this is the place to go everything is made fresh
