REVIEWS OF Golden Lotus Restaurant IN Maine

Saw a little bit of mixed reviews, but was excited to try this place as my friends and I had never eaten here. The owner was very welcoming and seated us immediately. We ordered a wide variety of food including every dumpling, roasted duck, general tao, krab rangoon, and beef sticks. The food came out within 15 minutes of ordering which was really fast considering how much we ordered. Everything was fantastic, I especially loved the Peking duck buns, they melted in my mouth like candy. The general Tao was some of the best I had and the beef sticks were so juicy and tender. The only thing that wasn't good was the lobster dumplings, they didn't taste as fresh as they should have considering this is a portland maine resteraunt. I would definitely eat here again no questions asked.

Audrey Cooper

Fairly good selection, a nice lunch, calm atmosphere. Food didn't taste particularly fresh and there weren't many vegetarian options, but still good. Would go again!

Dine in for a better experience. I enjoy this for a fast quiet lunch, but it's quite popular for dinner. Moe flavorful than a lot of New England Chinese without just being sugar and salt.

Jawn Trawn

It’s pretty mediocre. The chicken tasted a little funky. Service was fast though, so that’s good.

Paige Connell

Great service! Super nice hostess

Christopher Sawyer

Shameful and unwelcoming attitude. Rude sevice with no patience. Avoid for sure.

I think it might be the best chinese food in the Portland area. Portions are huge but most importantly wonderfully flavourd! General tsaos is good and spicy beef noodle dish is amazing. Besides, the space is large and well decorated. Yes, service is "non traditional" but it is worth it to me.

Hope Patterson

Food was okay. Service was awful, by far the worst I’ve ever had. The server was very rude and homophobic, definitely wasn’t worth the quality of the food. This restaurant was also the first place in Portland I’ve seen give plastic straws. Would give 0 stars if I could.

The food is always excellent. Never had a complaint. I highly recommend it.

This is in my rotation of favorite local restaurants for weekday lunches. For me, it's all about the Pork Mei Fun with pickled vegetable (delicious and enough for another meal, easy). I love it so much I get it every time I go there, but my lunchmates get other things and everyone is always happy! Good people-watching spot too.

Robert Buchanan

Excellent food and excellent service. They're always friendly and it's right downtown.

Jonathan Masih Das

Yummy Chinese food, and my dad’s favorite food in Portland. I recommend: - lobster dumplings - beef lo mein - Peking duck buns - green beans - fish with black bean sauce Also, the scorpion bowl is absolutely delicious but very strong!! So be careful ;)

I only had a few things from the menu but what I got was excellent. The seating was very comfortable and service was good. I'll be returning for more next opportunity I get.

The food was great. The service was great. No waiting for a table. Portions were good.

You know you're in a good Chinese restaurant when a) they only bring you forks if requested and b) the family at the next table is Chinese. Delectable food, beautiful restaurant, fast service, and surprisingly reasonable prices considering the central location on Congress Street. There is a (paid) public parking lot just around the corner, as well as metered street parking.

John Zarate

Very friendly staff and economical lunch options.

Juan Cosme

Service was terrible, very very rude staff and food quality was poor!

Shakira Dipietro

I wasn't impressed at all. I ordered here for the first time ever today because fortune garden is closed on Sunday's and I've seen good reviews about the golden lotus. I ordered the spicy beef lo Mein lunch special for take out which includes two dumplings and comes to 9.99$ exactly after tax and it was absolutely bland mushy and disappointing. What really irritates me is the fact that this dish at dinner hours excludes the dumplings and is 15.50$+ tax! besides black pepper their was no taste at all and wasn't spicy. The beef was over cooked and had a weird rubbery chewy texture making it very hard to chew especially with the mushy noodles. The broccoli and peas that comes with the dish looks like they just came from the freezer aisle in a grocery store. The dumplings were okay but they consisted of more dough than meat and were lacking flavor maybe because of how thick and doughy they are. When I went to pick up my order it was so dead literally a ghost town which made me feel super awkward but it was lunch and they only have a tiny amount of specials. The employees were polite enough but not super friendly or outgoing. Probably never returning here there are way better options for Chinese food that are reasonably priced and actually have flavor. I would of at least given them 2-3 stars if they weren't so expensive and ridiculously over priced. Nothing on their menu is worth the price please this food was terrible if I actually sat down in the restaurant and ate the dinner portion I would ask for my money back I literally took a bite when I returned home and threw it away. From my experience I've learned its an overrated tourist trap.

Michael Fontaine

Very generous portions. Food is satisfying, yet still light. The dim sum especially leaves you feeling content and full at a reasonable price.

Luke Bastille

Nice place for Chinese. Clean with a nice view of Congress St. A little pricy though....

It's Portland's best, most authentic Cantonese restaurant. My family is from Southern China and owned multiple Cantonese restaurants in the New York City area.

Jordan Henderson

Solid Chinese food in Portland.

Dylan Siegert

This is a clean chinese and its expensive for what it is. The food is clearly as healthy as it can be, but Green Elephant has cleaner quality and better pricing. Fried Wontons are literally fried wontons - no meat. Lo mein is dry. A qt of entree comes with a pint of rice so good luck sharing with your family. I recommend Evergreen, [they deliver], tastes like NY.

One of my favorite Asian lunch spots. Sesame chicken is on point - order it extra crispy.

One of my favorite go-tos downtown! The cuisine is surprisingly authentic, and always delicious. Prices are good; you get a good amount for your money, and the lunch specials are a really nice option (especially if you and a few friends go in dim sum style rather than individual plates). The decor and atmosphere are nice, and the big windows facing congress make it a really great spot for people watching. The space is surprisingly huge so youll never have to wait to be seated. The waitstaff (or should I say waitress? Every time I go it's the same woman) is prompt and knowledgable, and have suggested me things to try on a few occasions. All in all a great restaurant. Best place for dumplings! Be sure to try the spicy pork buns and the baby bok choy (my favorite

Much better than you would think or expect. The orange chicken is delightful, and *not* overbreaded. The wonton soup is delicious (comes with dumplings and baby bok choy). The woman who is normally there has a surly demeanor but gives better than decent service. I have never seen it busy, here, which is surprising, considering how delicious and affordable the food is.

Staff is incredibly rude, no matter how polite you are to them. All three times I have been to this restaurant, the waitresses have slammed my drinks and food on the table, snapped at me and other guests, glared, and have just been blatantly rude. I kept feeling like my existence was such an inconvienence to them. I ordered Sesame Chicken each time, and each time it made me incredibly sick. Don’t go here if you’re looking for quality food and service!

Andrea Bonenfant

Hands down the best egg rolls and bacon fried rice. Staff is always super friendly and food comes out fast and hot!

A bit of a hidden treasure in downtown Portland if that's possible. I think this is the most underrated Chinese restaurant in the whole area. Service can be a bit grumpy, but the food is fantastic.

Maine is of course known for seafood--and we a ton of great lobster on our trip--but this place was the big surprise. We stopped by here on our way to the airport and ordered the Peking duck bun and the Beef & sweet bell peppers in in black bean sauce. The bun was good, but that beef dish goes down as one of my all-time favorite Chinese dishes, and I will definitely stop by whenever I'm in Portland, ME. The sauce was perfect, there was a ton of fresh bell peppers in it, the meat was tender, and the overall portion was gigantic (my wife and I split it).

I've eaten here a number of times and their food is great. They have mostly the same staples you'll see at most Chinese places, General Tso's, kung po, etc, but their food isn't sopping with grease and sugar and salt. Golden Lotus has genuine good flavor. If you like Chinese and want to feel good after you eat it then you'll love this place.

The food just blows me away every time. The atmosphere and the prices are just outstanding. Highly recommend if your feeling Chinese
