This is a busy place and for good reason! The food was delicious and presentations were eye-pleasingly beautiful. The staff I thought was awesome. They ran the place like a well-oiled machine. Had to put my name on a list just to get a seat at the bar but Joe, the guy who took my name was right on top of things gave me an estimated time, and when he realized that he had underestimated how much time it would take, he came to me and told me personally as well as the other people on the list. While myself and other guests stood around waiting to be seated, there was someone on the floor taking our drink orders and bringing us drinks. David was also behind the bar and he was equally as professional, friendly and attentive while doing 40 things at one time. I wont tell you what to get because the menu changes every day from what I'm told, but if you see a tomato tart on the menu get it! I also recommend the lobster and I had grilled green beans. It all was delicious and a great experience!

Dude, I really like the place. Atmosphere is right out of the book of awesome American restaurants. Food is dynamite. Like, even the broccoli is addictive. Great place all around. Service great too.

Nikolas Fotos

What a ride! This coaster has been running for 2+ decades, but it is still rolling amazingly! The wait time is usually 80-120 minutes at its peak. A FastPass is definitely recommended when referring to this attraction. The ride itself starts off with a bang, with Steven Tyler screaming at your ears. The ride itself is a bit under average in terms of length, but the turns and drops make up for it. Make sure to smile at the beginning, as they take a picture of your screaming at the start!

Rob Cardeiro

Great place! Matt, our waiter was absolutely perfect, thank you! Food was delicious. Minus one star for weak gin and tonic drinks.

Holly Joyner

This was amazing brunch. Cool inventive menu options. Our server seemed great with kids. Will come back.

David Bourque

Food, glorious food

My Pokemon

Overrated. The staff definitely hates people from out of state and the food is not that good. A very pretentious place

Marisa Pintado

Lovely dinner at Fore Street - we had the squid appetiser to share and the bluefish and hanger steak for mains. The chocolate torte with spiced mint ice cream was too rich but by then I was extremely full!

Josh Harris

One of the best culinary experiences in New England. Never disappointed. Even the garnish is the best thing you've ever tasted! Daily menu does not disappoint. Worth every penny.

John Field

Without a doubt, one of the top five restaurants I have ever been too. The seafood tasting platter is a must-have.

Farah Jelili

Delicious food and atmosphere! Will come eat here again!

David Monti

Best dinner we’ve ever had. Wine, food, dessert and atmosphere. It did help that I had the love of my life sitting across the table. We both loved it. It was pricey and worth every penny.

Joshua Sudbey

An exceptional meal. Great service and amazing food. Worth the wait!

Martin Leroux

The warmth you feel as you walk in, from both the wood burning ovens and the staff, are an excellent start. They take walk-ins, and we ended up having our meal at the bar. The food was great. Try the mussels! And the bread was the best I've ever had in the United States. The vegetarian pasta dish was out of this world. Good beer and wine list too!

Gino911

Probably the best dinner my wife and I have ever had. Our dinners were amazing and the service was excellent. Also has a great atmosphere as well. Definetly recommend if you are in the Portland area.

J. Adam

I’m in the minority I guess; service was excellent, atmosphere is nice, but the entrees were just okay. The fresh raw seafood appetizers were excellent. The entrees were well cooked, just bland and pretty flavorless. Prices are reasonable, just didn’t live up to the hype.

Sarah Rosser

Such a great Portland restaurant! We loved everything we ate and the service was wonderful.

Celia Mawhinney

Nice spot. I found the food to be very salty. Good service.

Rachel Morse

Amazing food, service, and atmosphere. Grateful for all the experiences that I’ve already had and look forward to many more!

Let me preface this by saying that with nearly 700 reviews already written, that there's probably little I can add but here's a brief overview of my experience there. My wife and I had a date night there recently and made reservations for dinner. We were excited, especially having read and seen all of the media coverage surrounding this place. We arrived early, on purpose, to partake in a few libations in their lounge while we waited for the hostess to snag us towards our dinner table. We then ordered a full dinner which included wine, appetizers, mains and a dessert we split. The atmosphere, and especially the smells emanating from their wood stove in this place are amazing. It really adds to the whole experience. The service was friendly and attentive and provided great advice as to how much to order. Anywhoo, here are the highlights and low-lights: + the atmosphere and decor + the service + the bread service - high quality bread goes a long way + their bourbon brined chicken - best chicken I've ever had, hands down - the very dim lighting; it was so dark in the dining room that we couldn't even see what we were eating. The candle on our table was insufficient and people were using their phone's flashlights to see the menu and food - the pricing; this place is insanely overpriced. - the sides were hit or miss; the fiddleheads were under-cooked and under-seasoned Is this place the best restaurant in Portland? Quite possibly but is it worth the high price tag? Definitely not. The menu isn't all that particularly creative and I was expecting more. $250+ for dinner for two? No thank you.

Samuel Tyre

Great pour on the Old Fashion. Enjoyed the halibut and flounder entrees. Charcuterie plate was solid, lamb pastrami was a bit fatty. The open kitchen is a great show.

John Pentecost

A Portland institution. In a city filled with great places to eat, Fore Street is somehow still at the head of the class after 20+ years.

Lucian Ramnarase

Timeout was right, you should reserve a table here weeks in advance if not the 2 months allotted. We obviously couldn't reserve a table day of, a Thursday night, so we went for one of their walk in tables at 5:37. The first table would be 8pm, so we chilled on the Eastern Promenade. The food was good and the vibe was upscale, definitely a top restaurant in Portland. Food and service are great for sure. However, compared to restaurants in major cities it is decent.

Thuquynh Dinh

Just every thing I got here hit a delicious note. You can’t go wrong with what ever is on the menu. Gets really crowded though so be prepared to wait for a table.

Maura Jones

My aunt from out-of-town called wanting to meet for dinner the same night. I had a 6 hour window to find a nice place. Searched online, read reviews, called a few places, phoned a friend and finally decided to go to the most popular restaurant in town with a 2 month out reservation list. We got there before the doors were opened. When they opened we were seated at the bar, enjoyed a glass of wine and then they brought us to our table which was at a window. The place was buzzing with excitement. The food, customer service and overall experience was exceptional. Very grateful for the opportunity to see my aunt and uncle I had not seen in 15 years and enjoy such an amazing meal in an award winning restaurant. Highly recommended.

Dianne Aguilar

The food is good, but not amazing for the price point. I do not recommend this place for a group greater than 4 people. We were a party of six, and were seated at a booth, which was terrible for conversation, plus the server had a difficult time passing and collecting plates. Perhaps the experience would have been better with a smaller group.

Anastasia Ponomareva

So good. So good. So good!!! One of the best dinning experience in the US. Everything tasted absolutely amazing! Service is flawless. Great cocktails while waiting for a table. Even their bread with butter was fantastic. Dreaming about going there again.

Jesse Clanton

fantastic food 2 years in a row. Will be going back next year. I can't say enough, this place is amazing

Ryan McNamara

The food was great, but the service was just OK. How a restaurant doesn't have high chairs is beyond me. They had room to have them near tables and still he able to get by, but I was surprised by that. The server we had was pretty nice, but didnt seem like she wanted to be there that day.

Andrew Arjoon

Delicious food and great service.

Lawrence Filippelli

In a city of fantastic restaurants, Fore street stands tall as a place of eclectic farm to table choice. The daily change of the menus provide an amazing array of local ingredients. The service is also top notch and the wine list is fairly deep with numerous choice from all the regions a serious foodie will love.

Ivan Many

This was one excellent excellent excellent experience. We Loved it. Our Waitress Michelle was amazing. So light and bubbly. You could tell she knew the ingredients well and even taught us about how they harvest a small yellow ground cherrys out of a husk. That tasty little gem I never had before was found in the Melon and pear Salad which was devine. So Lite and refreshing. An experience on its own. Fresh fresh fresh !!! Then we found out that the menu changes everyday due too the farm too table aspect and the availability of the products they are serving. You could just tell that this food was handled with love and attention and that the kitchen really cares about each plate that goes out. We had the half of Chicken over a vegetable stuffing that was just loaded with flavor. I could of eaten a whole bowl of just that. I had the Halibut that was baked with carrots, and string beans. Well co sidering it is my personal favorite fish I just knew it was going to be good. WOW so moist and perfect. It tasted like it was caught a few hours before. Great drinks - Blueberry Shrub was really refreshing after hiking all day. Then dessert..... that Pear pudding is too die for. My girlfriend is lucky she got any and she ordered it. I had the Plum, Pear, and apple crisp with blueberry ice cream. Ok well we shared and that's the story I am sticking too. This was top notch. We were blown away. That's why I took the time too write a novel. 10 of 10 we will be back. Unfortunately next year :( We <3 Maine and this was by far the best restaurant we had found in our many journey's too this beautiful state.

MJ Santor

Excellent food and great atmosphere.

Andrew Bussieres

Great restaurant, great food, a lot of good fresh choice on the menu!

I'm Mr. Google

We are very well traveled and this is simply one of the finest restaurants we have eaten at. My wife and I have enjoyed the Fore several times and have never left disappointed. Everything is always delicious and masterfully prepared.

Andee Scallion

Delicious food

Joyce Bramhall

Great evening at Fore Street Restaurant our meals were spectacular the wildfire grill adds so much flavor. Our server,Kevin was attentive but not hovering. The atmosphere is fun, funky and modern industrial. The place was buzzing, our cocktails were delish I had the Spring Robin! We shared apps. Main with veggies and yummm dessert. Unique chef home tun❣

Bryant Eadon

Fantastic menu. Had a fantastically prepared pork loin, absolutely great food.

Nikolas Fotos

Emily Joy Kruger

Absolutely delicious & excellent service! I highly recommend the lobster stew & the brussel sprout salad! The quail was also very good!

Hans Muench

Probably one of the best restaurants in Portland, but when the sides arrive once you are half way through your pork roast, then you can not give more than three stars. Otherwise nice and busy place that offers good food in a nice environment. Great cheese for desert.

Lauren Yang

Exceptional meats and seafoods. Thoroughly enjoyed every phase of the meal. Great wine list. Make sure to save room for desserts. If you don't make reservation ahead of time, you can make one at 5pm day of but get in line before 5 on a busy night like a Saturday.

Andrew Baker

The Fore Street has stayed alive for a long time and that's because it's an excellent restaurant. It could hold its own anywhere from New York City to Los Angeles.

Ryan Wilson

All the dishes were great. Fantastic experience and restaurant.

seth Gibson

Incredibly good food. Best meal I had in Portland.

Keith Orr

Great food, but get a reservation, it is a long wait.

Kimberly Moore

The duck was exquisite. Beautiful venue. Staff was friendly and professional.

Ryan Kalus

Amazing menu and the best mussels I think I've ever had. The menu was a bit too large, I had fomo and ultimately once we ordered we regretted not trying other options. Great service, really nice interior and nice place to spend an evening.

Vin VanderClute

Genuinely the best meal I've ever had. The server was kind and bubbly, and it was very cool to watch the chefs cook in the open kitchen!

Ronnie Bordin

All hype no substance over-priced waste of time. Maybe 4 or 5 years they were special Not anymore spent a small fortune for this average meal go anywhere else this place is a joke . In a real competitive setting they'd be out of business. There portions are smaller than a Maine blueberry and they charge like its gold . My entire party was disappointed my wallet still won't talk to me that's how bad a time we had their, sorry I expected the best and received a Zero

Chef Brian

Service in general was excellent. It is a very romantic dining room. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meal but no one was wow'd. My risotto was al dente instead of creamy, if it was made with a stock, it was a very weak stock. Overall impression, it's overated.

Barbara Souza

Beautiful place to dine on beautiful food. Absolutely a great experience. The staff really cares! Will always visit when in area.

Joshua Rosen

Had a terrific meal here.

Fritz Gerwe

Great restaurant and great atmosphere! Food was so delicious and the service was the best! Thanks - from Portland, Oregon

Mat Yerkes

This was my first time dining at Fore Street. As a Portlander, I tend to avoid a lot of the more popular restaurants in town because of the crowds, but since it's February and off-season, and my birthday, I made a reservation for 3 (my parents came with me). The restaurant is probably one of the most comforting rooms I've been in. The decor and lighting are kind of like getting a hug. I forget what our server's name was; he was nice, but a little non-personal and a bit pushy. I think they were just starting to get busy, so it was probably stressful - not a big deal for us. I ordered a smoked half chicken, my mom got pan-seared flounder and her boyfriend got a hanger steak. We each had one bite of everything to see what we were all making embarrassing noises about. There's no point in going into detail - it was all perfect. It was the best chicken I have ever had, the best fish I have ever had, and maybe not the top steak, but close to the best steak I've ever had. I will definitely make this a more common, but still special occasion destination in the future. Now I'm kicking myself for not having been here in 7 years. If anyone has a review that says "the food isn't good" or something along those lines - they must be impossible to please. Pay no attention.

Jonathan V. Murray, Realtor

Fore Street is not only an excellent meal, it is an experience. The open kitchen is a sight to see with the cooks showcasing their skills and the food, meat, ect cooking over open flames & various chef's tables. The bread is baked fresh daily at the bakery downstairs. Dinner specials are original. There is also a cozy lounge area that offers couches & chairs.

Luke Beaulac

Great collection of higher end bourbon. Excellent food, menu rotates daily. Food was out of this world great! Everything cooked over an open fire, it was a meal to remember.

Levi Burkholder

It sure did fill me up holy cow its good. The food was right and so was the price

michael rosenblum

Get a reservation, and enjoy a special meal together as a family. Wood fired oven gives the whole restaurant the smoky smell that enhances the meal. Chicken was great, salmon was a little overcooked.

Krissy Salley

Great dining experience. Tremendously delicous food. New menu all the time. Good service. Great cocktail menu too. Pricey but worth it. Bread was awesome. I ordered a flank steak - wonderful. Family-style, shared sides were awesome - had beets and potato. The mussels appetizer and oysters ob half shell were also fantastic.

michael chu

great good. great ambiance. really well done food. brick oven and rotisserie make excellent meat dishes and the seafood is great.

Lori Parent

Bloom is off the Rose at Fore Street for us. Service from our server Mick was blah. Attitude was like it was our favor to have her wait on us...this was for an early dinner at 6PM. Portions very meager. Fish was good so we're scallops and mussels. Just not that remarkable for a dinner and drinks for two with tip @$250! With all the great dining spots in Portland we wish we tried something else!

Joe G

Food was absolutely incredible

Melissa Wood

Considering Fore Street's prices, popularity and reputation, I thought I would be wowed. I wasn't. We spent a lot of money for okay food and a not-so-great experience. When we walked in there was closet open with a vacuum cleaner and some other supplies next to the hostess station. It was still open when we left. Not a big deal but also not a nice touch. I ordered scallops, and for $38 I thought they'd be amazing. They weren't. They were just okay. Plus, the entree's whipped potatoes were a small smear on the plate. But that was fine because they were tasteless. It was also loud. At times, our server -- who wasn't that friendly -- had trouble hearing us. My Moscow mule was not drinkable. If you're looking for something special, go someplace else. There are many great restaurants in Portland. Leave this one to the tourists. They'll be okay.

nathan bailey

Really cannot say enough positive things about this place. The staff is friendly but more importantly knowledgeable surrounding their menu and making suggestions. Everyone is very attentive to your needs. The food is incredible, I always order something that doesn’t necessarily appeal to my typical likes and enjoy loving it. I think the folks in the kitchen could make a floor board taste amazing. If you are in portland and looking for great food, you certainly won’t be disappointed.

Robert Oliver

Excellent atmosphere, service, and amazing food!

Erin Paris

Get the wood fired mussels! Everything was amazing. They take walk-ins, but go right at 5pm because it was a 2.5 hr wait.

K. Allen

This is a not to be missed dining experience in Portland. Every meal I've had here has been reliably outstanding, the service is excellent (shout out to Lance!), and the cocktails and wine are always great. A perfect place to go to be taken care of and fed the best things.

Jenny Camerini

Well, we had to wait 3 hours for a table sk I would recommend calling ahead or go way early to put your name in. But anyway, the food and drinks were out of this world. Definitely worth the wait and price!

Tamara Granath

Extremely rude hostess and not kid friendly. Would not recommend for anyone with kids.

Francis Duffy

Amazing place.... fabulous ambiance..... professional competent staff

David Bonifas

Unique place. Great food. Just smells like wod fire when you go in. Menu changes daily. Get there early!

bob lee

I was skeptical that this would be an overpriced tourist trap but I will admit I was dead wrong! First off the entire staff we encountered were amazing! The hostess was very nice and polite and greets everyone with a smile. We wanted to sit at the bar but the seats were reserved. The hostess suggested we asked the tall bartender ( can't miss him) what the wait would be. He was such a nice guy and gave off a welcoming vibe. He said they were booked but 2 people didn't show. He has us wait a moment to be sure and then politely cleared space for us. We knew right there this place was was clicking on all cylinders. Our bartender ( different person) Was great as well. Right on the orders and and clearing everything. We got 3 apps that were so fresh and flavorful we couldn't have been happier. The only downside was the smoked Lamb ribs only have 3 small ones per serving. Come on guys at least make it 4? On the other hand the smoke was perfect and the flavor was spot on. The best was the mussels in garlic sauce. My girlfriend gets mussles everywhere and I mean everywhere and said these are hands down the best. I have to agree. Let's put it this way. You would drink the sauce out of a glass if you could. On that note if you are in Portland this is MUST TRY!!! You won't regret it. Oh and the prices are right where they should be.

Joe Allen

Not what it once was, very salty....

Vickie Stisher

It's was okay. Food was good, a bit much for what you get

Catherine Roukas

Just a world class restaurant. Three separate wood burning ovens. Excellent wines by the glass. One of best fine dining spots in the entire USA as I travel a lot for biz and entertain clients

Gil Gutierrez

This was the capstone to a great trip and great meal. Me and my girlfriend are not foodies, but we do like exploring new places to eat. Dives to fine dining, and everything in between. When we realized that our plans had changed slightly, I looked for someplace special to end our trip. Without a doubt, Fore Street was at the top of everyone's lists, and it does not disappoint. We started with the sampler, which was great for my girlfriend because she is not a seafood person, but it gave her the ability to try new things that she normally would not have considered. The main course was excellent as well. Everything down to the tinniest of details was considered and only added to the course. I would tell you what we got, but the menu changes daily. We finished everything off with a beautiful and savory desert. I feel glutinous but satisfied in every conceivable way. This meal was nowhere near the highlight of the trip, but it accentuated what Portland has to offer. The next time were back in town, we know Fore Street will be one of our stops.

Mackenzie Greer

The table we had as a walk in wasn't great, though understandable. Food was delish!

Diana Wade

We just stopped in for a drink...very nice bar. Wish we had made dinner reso.. smells were amazing!

Miranda Gildart

Sat at the bar and Bill took excellent care of us. The food was delicious

michael ta

Came here a few year ago and while in Portland without a reservation and it was to my surprise a really nice dinner. Unfortunately, I did not have room in my stomach to try more of their food. The standard was set pretty high ... so much that it spoiled me when compared to the other dinner places I visited nearby. The freshness of the mussels and the seasoning was just perfect. I enjoyed the view by the oven to see the simplicity of their preparation. The service is second to none. I hope to be back soon.

Steven West

Food was great drinks great service outstanding .

quentin avant

Our server was incredibly attentive and patient as we navigated through the menu. She was knowledgeable and relaxed. Our items ordered were excellent.

Darcey Pomerleau

Perfect upscale restaurant with great atmosphere! Food was amazing..and worth it. Highly recommend for date night to impress ..or to celebrate special occasion!

Jim Bowe

It's been years we've been waiting for a chance to dine at Fore Street Restaurant. It did not disappoint. It is rustically charming and oddly comfortable. The service was just right -- attentive enough without being overbearing -- and our server was knowledgeable and helpful. The menu is always changing, so our tips may be of only limited help, but here goes: the seafood sampler was exquisite and a great way to start. The pork done over the wood fire was tender, moist and intense. The fish of the day came whole, cooked perfectly and garnished beautifully. Who orders chicken in a restaurant? My daughter did, and we all agreed it was among the best we had ever had (it is cooked on a rotisserie; its skin was golden crisp and the meat was tender, moist and delicious). The sides were as good as the mains. We needed the advice not to fill up on the wonderful bread from the bakery downstairs, but that took a feat of will. Strongly recommended.

Johnny Thompson

Very good. The cod was wonderfully prepared in a delicious sauce. I enjoyed the green tea creme brulee.

Mike Vecc

In our top 5 favorite restaurants in Portland. Don't want to say too much good as the waits are already too long. But this place rocks it when it comes to the whole dining experience.

Morgan Elizabeth

Great decor. In the middle of down town so you can go in an out and continue touring Portland. Fresh fish cooked in front of you. Great for a foodie. Expensive.

David Goldfield

Fresh ingredients, local seafood, wood roasted meats and fish, good selection of wines by the glass (much improved over the years, a long history of consistency and excellence . Can't go wrong for a fine dining experiance .

Jim Montague

Overrated. Food was just okay. Scallops entre was 3 small to medium sized scallops, which is about $13 each. Hanger steak was okay, nothing special. Service was not so great. Overall, very disappointing.

Vlad Polishchuk

One of my favorite restaurants in the world. Absolute class.

Gregory Malicki

Excellent food and service!

Rachael Malley

We were in Portland for the weekend and a friend recommended Fore Restaurant. It was awesome! Nice interior/ambiance, great service and great food! The oysters were amazing; the wood fired fish/steak were amazing; the fresh bread was amazing. We did not have wine or cocktails , but the ones I saw looked great. I especially liked being able to watch the chefs cooking up the incredibly fresh food in their open kitchen. The wood fired oven was awesome!

SCOTT BOYER

The Godfather of all Portland restaurants I used to frequent FS many times 15 to 20 years ago and would bypass Boston it was that good, as the years passed I would dine in Portland at other establishments so I decided to revisit FS and I have to say that it has not lost a step to anyplace in town. The food, atmosphere and the staff are still what set it apart from other Portland eateries, they just get it right without trying to be trendy or serving you the latest fad in dining, what you do get is properly prepared food served to you by a professional staff many other restaurants in Portland try but fall short all in all a must visit !

Matilda Vllahu

Was ok. Nothing to go crazy about it.

Chelsea Weldon

WOW!! We had a fabulous meal here. The ambiance was rustic and cozy and the menu was was created each day based on the Resturant’s fresh ingredients.

John Baldwin

I haven't been here in the last 10 years. Maybe next summer.

griffin gribbel

Fore Street is a spectacular restaurant. Everything from the cocktails to the menu and the service were top notch. I will be going back.

Elin

Fore street was very highly recommended by family and friends. It was a process to get a reservation, which only heightened my anticipation and expectations of a great meal and even better service. During my reservation process I was assured that staff Could provide a child friendly meal for our adult handicapped son. Upon being seated, Our server informed me that this was impossible and that the chefs were too busy and worked too hard on the provided menu to make any concessions whatsoever. Probably should have left at that point but was with a large group. Food good but not great. My fish was over cooked, though the praline cake was delicious. Others at my table enjoyed the meal very much. Will not return and cannot recommend based on the rather shabby treatment.

Chris Everett

Food, drinks, atmosphere and staff were great. Benson was probably the best waiter I've ever had. Make a reservation or get there when they open at 5 or you'll wait 45 minutes to an hour or more for a table.

Isa M

Knowledgeable and friendly staff, very good food. The only warning is the menu changes every day depending on ingredient availability. Mind you, this is not a bad thing at all.

Sally Rodriguez

Everything on Fore Street’s Menu will be sure to tickle your stomach and make you want to come back to see what’s on the menu next time. Absolute perfection that ends with delicious and beautifully boxed chocolates.

John Kelley

Great atmosphere. Phenominal food and great bartender

Jackson Wajer

Fore Street is a wonderful restaurant with excellent food and stellar service. Everything is refined to an incredible degree. The kitchen is run like a well oiled machine in that everyone has a defined role who works there. It works incredibly well. The food made is incredible, and the pork is the best I've ever had. I would recommend placing a reservation, as waits without it are several hours long.

Jack Bursztyn

Incredible restaurant!!! What a find... Great food, good ambiance and great service! A must go in portland

Art Siegel

Fantastic food and service.

Noah Reidelbach

Best pork I've ever had

Dolan

Fantastic food, and excellent customer service. Food is delicious and well worth the prices! You shouldn't leave there hungry at all.

Gary West

Excellent presentation and quality. Very creative. Worth the $$

SCOTT JOYS

Great meal ,outstanding service, nothing bad to say.

Emily Belanger

Went for Valentine's Day dinner and could not have been more impressed. Our server was a delight, made excellent recommendations for what to try, and the little chocolate hearts at the end we're delicious.

Ruth Rachelle

I look forward to going to Fore Street every time business brings me to Portland. Great atmosphere, unbelievable food & attentive, knowledgeable service!

Avaas Sharif

If you wanted to be treated like a second class citizen, while watching others be served on graciously, then this may be the place for you. After being told we wouldn't be able to eat there by the hostess because they were full I noticed that there were multiple seats at the bar (these were not offered, I had to ask why we couldn't sit there). We proceeded to seat ourselves. Then at the bar, a server that seemed to be very friendly with other was cold and disrespectful to us. Others were explained what's on the menu and waited on, and we were not. We then began to observe patrons who were seated at the bar after us be waited on before us. It became apparent to my partner, what had been apparent to me from the beginning. At this point I was asked by my partner if this might have anything to do with our skin color and I responded that I believe it might. As we can't say for 100% certainty that our race was the motive, we both strongly felt it was the only observable difference we could see. As other patrons had been significantly more underdressed than us including men wearing flip flops we only further believed this wasn't due to the perception that we might not be able to afford this restaurant (we are both doctors by the way). When I asked to speak to the manager I informed the manager about what had happened, how and why we felt we were being treated differently and that we wanted to pay for our drinks and leave. For anyone that's ever dealt with "subtle" or "in your face" racism they know how uncomfortable and disheartening it is. In the middle of ringing up our bill the manager decided to step aside to go take care of another restaurant related task (I believe it may have been seating someone but I don't remember exactly what it was). I'll gladly go back to New York City where people are just rude to everyone equally.

Ethan Webb

Truly outstanding. Celebrated out 10 year anniversary here. Amazing service and atmosphere. We did not order an entree. Instead we got an assortment of appetizers to share. Everything was incredible.

Kyle Fisher

This is my go-to restaurant when I am in Portland. Local ingredients prepared daily. Food is great. Atmosphere is fantastic. Can't go wrong with this place

Sonal Dhar

Amaaaaaazing Food!! Everything we ordered was cooked and flavored just right. The dessert was amazing too! Superb service, as well. We were served by a very knowledgeable and experienced as well as very pleasant gentleman. Loved the entire experience! Do book a table in advance!!

J Kubo

Everything was excellent again!! Great choices in all parts of the menu, the food was delicious and the service was attentive. Veggies never fall to satisfy, too!!

Robert Hoppenfeld

Great food in a great environment.

Jim Bowley

Fore Street, the engine of culinary reinvention of Portland’s downtown is as creative now as ever. Nightly menu changes can sometimes mean menu-roulette with the the right night making all the difference but when the menu is a massive two-sided monster like this restaurant’s you’ll find something you like — that’s fresh — every night. Make sure to get a reservation.

Keith Reeves

As good as it gets. Sat at the bar, and it was an amazing show to watch the bartenders create art, Food was excellent, as was the atomosphere, so good you best have a reservation made days ahead.

I'll be back here. The vegetarian dishes were really great and staff is very friendly.

Rich Ledson

Had high expectations and having great service added to the excitement of a great dinning experience. First course was bland mushroom and vegetable soup.no flavor at all. Parts of entrees "plants" were so bitter and so bland/no flavor I was pretty dissappointed the Halibut was perfect temperature but again no flavor. The pork chop was dry. Probably not going back anytime soon.

Absolutely amazing!

Beautiful and creative restaurant with a good foundation on service culture. The only downsides are on front of the house execution and value. Some fantastically creative and well thought out menu items. The kitchen is inspired! The dining space is a little too reliant on booths making larger parties cumbersome. Great date spot though!

It was good, I guess. I’ve definitely had better and cheaper meals at different places. I had the Cod and it was pretty good, nothing spectacular, although the cod had pickled Onions (my fave). My girlfriend ordered the hanger steak and she asked for it well done, it was cooked rare, at best. Very disappointing. It was good meal but nothing popped out in uniqueness to me. very standard meal. Something I should add, i had the banana pepper and eggplant salad because it sounded good and i like spicy food. The banana peppers were far from it. They were yellow-white and bland. i understand having the peppers not over power the obviously mediterranean inspired dish but they were bland, very flavourless salad

This place is amazing. Do not pass it up. Owner and staff accommodating. Love Chiefs football in Maine

Popular restaurant in Old Port. Menu changes daily. Wide variety (seafood, beef, pork, etc). Server explains menu items, options well and very informed. Yummy bread and butter served to start. Ribeye was not my fave. Reservations are a must. Pay Parking in lot ($10 cash) directly across street (from 3rd party) or free parking behind restaurant at Bakery on Commercial St.

Beautiful restaurant on an old armory building. Great atmosphere. Open kitchen. Menu changes daily. We had the whole black sea bass and duck confirm, both were fantastic!

I really liked this restaurant, the staff were welcoming and the food was excellent. I ordered beet salad and the baked cod. It was cooked to perfection and seasoned exactly to my taste (not salty). I had a slightly negative preconceived notion about this restaurant. I’ve been to similar concept restaurants in the past and been let down. However, it came highly recommended, so I thought I would try it. I don’t regret it. Note, you really need to make a reservation! I could not get a table, so sat at the bar. You don’t quite get the “in kitchen” atmosphere, but being on my own it actually worked out better. Bar staff were excellent. You won’t get fat on the portions, but that’s not the intent.

Dined there on 8/13/2019. Asked the waitress about the wood roasted flank steak. I have not had good luck with this cut in the past. Typically tough and tasteless. She assured me that it was great so I ordered it. Was very tough as expected. I question why a top restaurant like this would even offer this cheap, tough piece of meat. Learned my lesson. Never again!

Excellent tasting food! Charming atmosphere and great staff. Hard to get a reservation, so book way ahead during prime time. Can’t wait for the next visit to Portland.

Don Frasco

You haven't been to Portland if you haven't been to Fore Street. This place is transcendent and transparent. The staff always have been friendly and helpful. You have to try their grilled duck breast, smoked mussels, and wood oven roasted mussels.

john paige

Atmosphere was nice , servers were top notch, food was fresh. Can’t say I’d go out of my way again for the food though, nothing that special after the 5:45 seating and the 7:30 dinner finally showing up to the table. They did offer a free cheese plate for the long and I mean long wait for food to come out. Prob. Wouldn’t waste my time again trying to get in and or standing in line. This place seems to be more hype than service. I won’t be back

Everything is full of great flavors and staff are pleasant

This is one of my favorite restaurants. It is pricey, so we save it for very special occasions such as our anniversary. Much has been written about their food, so I'll stick with the mechanics. If you are handicapped, you will need to be dropped off at the door on Fore Street and then the driver can go to the small lot on Commercial Street to park.

Amazing dinner and service..

Drew Fernandez

Everything is amazing here. The chefs do an amazing job and clearly take pride in their craft. It can get a little pricy but it's definitely worth it 99% of the time. Highly recommend the muscles and pork entrees

Greg Hilbert

Went here based on reviews and it was very good. However, I chose poorly. Got the jumbo scallops, and although they were good there were only 3 and they were not jumbo. And $38. Others got the pork loin and raved about it. The alecart sides were good. Recommend but don't get the scallops unless you are eating light!

The good: Service was outstanding. Atmosphere was beautiful. Dessert, bread, sides and drinks were delicious. Here's what's unforgivable and why they get 3 stars (I considered giving them one star, but everything else about the experience was wonderful). I ordered a $40 piece of lamb, and it was literally uncuttable. I am not exaggerating, I could not cut or chew the lamb. For that price, it should be flawless, or at the very least, pre-sliced and edible. I ate 1 bite that I had to knaw off with my teeth. Cute.

Lovely Mother's Day dinner!

Daniel Nelson

Amazing. The best restaurant I've been in the state.

J.R. Mendonca

Amazing experience. Ambience, service, are top notch. The sea bass and the chicken were from another world (yes, they made the humble chicken awesome) Should be a detail... but their sourdough bread is also addictive!

austin graham

Shining Star of the Portland foodie scene. Food is always fresh, interesting and delicious. Never pretentious, just amazing...don't forget to hit the bakery below in the daytime!

Jim Murac

Amazing. Top ten meals ever. Get a reservation and try it. The seafood sampler was amazing.

Marcos Mellao A. Lima

Super cool. Food is authentic and delicious. They offer small plates so you can try 3 to 4 and share. High point in my Portland experience.

Scott Wolfe

Absolutely stellar restaurant. This is the genuine "farm to table" exquisite food preparation and flavor combinations that deserve a premium. Try the Morel mushroom pappardelle and the fresh bluefish filet- amazing! Finish off with tasty new England cheese selections

One of the more interesting menus I have come across in my travels. Very fresh. Service is very professional. The atmosphere of the place is very cozy but also full of smoke given the kitchen is right in the middle of the place. So if you are going someplace afterwards, know you may smell like smoke. Had the oysters for an appetizer and halibut as meal. Both amazing.

Michael Tuminaro

Always a pleasure. Best restaurant in Maine.

Jonathan Moyer

Every dish delivered. Strong beer and wine list. Open kitchen with rotisserie and brick oven adds to the atmosphere. Best scallops I’ve ever had. Sourdough bread was a lovely accompaniment.

Katie Ardrey

We had dinner Saturday night. The apps were spectacular, and it went down hill from there. The steak ordered medium was still alive. The fish was average at best. The service was negligible and curt. I was so disappointed, especially after seeing these other positive reviews.

Maine Man

The food was fantastic! The ambiance was refreshing. It was a great experience and deserving of 5 stars!! It should be on everyone’s bucket list!!

Larry Wawrzenski

Best restaurant in Maine. From the raw clams to the home apple salad the main dish scallops and walnut pie is outstanding. The service was flawless. The atmosphere to rustic look is great. I can't say enough great things of this place. 5 stars all the way. 2 ppl under 200 we do not drink Well worth it.

Ashley Scalise

Was able to walk in with out a reservation on a busy Saturday night and was sat immediately (party of 2). Love that the menu changes daily. Service was fantastic. Food was amazing. Definitely will return!

Jason Johnson

I'm not exaggerating when I say this was the best dining experience I have ever had at any restaurant. The ambiance, drinks, food, and service was out of this world! The menu is apparently changed daily, according to the meat and produce they buy that morning, so we had no idea what to expect. We asked around before our reservation, and it sounded like the mussels are a staple and almost always available, and we were stongly encouraged to order them from people around town. We ended up not ordering them, but the table next to us did. They looked and smelled incredible, but I had no regrets with the duck breast and chicken liver mouse we ordered instead. We ordered the Foie gras for the first time. I won't be ordering it again, but it was delicious. We also ordered the scallops and whole sea bass. Both were incredible. I would recommend ordering the whole sea bass with more humility than I demonstrated for the best results. I have cleaned and cooked my fair share of fish in my time, and I insisted on fileting it myself. It was a fun / novel experience doing it myself in a restaurant, so I don't want to discourage that if you want to give it a shot, but I have no doubt the presentation and quality of the dish would have been better had I allowed our server to fillet the fish at the table. The desert trio was amazing, and so were the cocktails (old fashioned and mule). They also had a really nice Port and Irish coffee they brought with the dessert. The best part of the whole evening, (aside from the company of my wife, of course) was our incredible server, Molly. She really brought the whole thing together for us. I can't say it enough, this was the best dining experience I have ever had!

Robert Tapscott

Expensive, noisy, and slow service, but the outstanding food made everything else forgivable. The cuisine was exciting and delicious. The most interesting and creative menu we have ever seen. And everything we tried was an absolute success. Great creativity, great presentation, great taste.

Karen Mantey

Restaurant has been around for years. Every Time I visit Portland Maine, it's a must do for me. Packed each time. Food is reliably delicious.

Mark Gross

It’s ok. Ingredients are fresh and menu changes based on availability - like, um, a restaurant that isn’t a chain. And place has a nice, cozy feeling. But the execution is only fair and the service mediocre.

mia sewall

Delicious food, wonderful service. We so enjoyed it.

Julie C

The place has nice ambiance but is way overpriced ($38 for 3 scallops) and the food was only ok, the halibut was flavorless and so were the sides. Despite the fact that everything is made to order you are absolutely not allowed to make any substitutions or changes to the menu, the answer is a firm no. Our waitress also had a bad attitude which didn't help things.
