Weekend brunch was fabulous! Coffee from local company Life’s Perks; eggs and homemade corned beef hash with cinnamon swirl French toast, again served with local maple syrup from Hidden Hills company. So good!
This is our favorite restaurant in this area. We’ve been coming here for years and the food & service is always excellent. We’ve eaten a wide variety from the menu and have never been disappointed with the food.
For a small town, this is a delightfully surprising upscale experience. Everyone in our party of five loved it. From the friendly waitstaff to the pressed glass goblets, it was everything you could ask for.
Unique setting. The building was very cool. The wait staff was professional, friendly, and efficient. The food was VERY GOOD! The portions were large...we took home leftovers! We had Fettuccini Alfredo, Ravioli with Marina sauce, and cheesey garlic bread. DELICIOUS!!
Always a good meal
Loved the food!
The service and food are phenomenal every time we go. One of our favorite restaurants, hands down.
Amazing gluten free food! They even have gluten free dinner rolls
Ok food just pricie
Food is very good, portions are more than adequate, service was great.Prices are decent for quality
Great food, ok service
Delicious food! Great place!
We were glad we made reservations since there was already a 30 minute wait when we arrived. Service was impeccable, attentive and friendly. The bread and dipping oil were delicious as were the caprese appetizer and dinner salad. The pasta with bolognese sauce was a little dry. It could have used more sauce, but what was served was flavorful. The veal saltimbocca was okay. It was hard to taste the sage flavor. All in all, it was a very pleasant meal out on the deck listening to the stream. Definitely worth a return visit.
Awesome atmosphere. Located in old shoe mill with red brick interior walls and aged wooden floors. Menu was extensive with unique mixed drinks.
A hidden gem in the old Bass Shoe mill in Wilton. I never imagined there was such a great Italian place so close to where we live. You'd usually have to go to Portland for a meal of similar quality. Great atmosphere, great food, and reasonably priced with a friendly wait staff and nice outdoor seating.
First time here and the service and food were amazing, great Maine crab cake with a huge mamosa, and the view and out door patio just made the perfect Saturday brunch. Highly recommend, and will return.
Everything was excellent! The service, atmosphere, and food we're each top notch. The parking was a little difficult to figure out, but was fine
Great and fun
Great food and excellent staff.
Good food and service. Prices are excellent Nice ambiance.
My 2 girlfriends and I walked in around 5pm on a Saturday evening after hiking all day, therefore yes we were in our hiking attire. We were looked up and down, asked if we had reservations, after we told them no we were asked how many people total for dinner, stood there while a waitress grabbed menus and then someone else walked up to us and told us that they are booked for reservations, and nothing at the bar. Once in the parking lot, I called to double check as we were a bit skeptical and I asked if there was any time to wait, Nicole told me no. I asked how long take out usually took, and she then told me she was not taking any orders for take out because she was so busy. We decided to leave. There was one table seated outside and 4-5 other tables on the deck available. 30 minutes later, we called again asking for availability and asked if we could sit outside and Nicole told us she had one table “braving it out there” (it’s a chilly early October evening, but 60 degrees). They clearly did not need nor want our business, judged us before we even had a chance and it’s truly sad because all 3 of us have very well paying jobs and tip great.
Great food, ambience & service
Friendly people to wait on you Great customer servive Food is delicious I'd definitely go back and recommend it to others
Amazing food and very pleasant atmosphere. Good value for your money and great service. Wow. Local and family owned.
Great food - very friendly atmosphere
Delicious, prices were reasonable and staff was excellent.
Excellent food. They were very busy, and the host ended up acting as our waiter. He did an awesome job.
Very tasty brick oven pizza.
Definitely my favorite restaurant in the entire state of Maine! Yummmm
Good food, and great atmosphere. I went here twice while I was in the area for work. I'll be back if I'm in the area.
Mediocre overpriced food! Not worth the hype. I guess for rural Maine it's the best out here. $20 for pasta that's not even freshly made (tasted like boxed pasta from Hannaford). Save yourself the trouble and don't bother. The mother in our table ate the steak and she ordered medium well and it came medium rare. We sent it back and waited almost 30 mins for the new one to come out. Everyone had finished their food and was still waiting. They apologized and gave a "discount" and it ended up being $5 off. $27 steak. I told them it was pathetic, as it should have been comp. The owner came and talk and kept saying "Well it's a mistake. Did she eat her streak?" I kept explaining how it was unacceptable to make her wait that long after everyone was done and she kept saying "But she ate it" with A LOT OF ATTITUDE. It made me furious. They came back and gave another 20% off just the steak. I guess they rather still make a profit than having returning customers The fact that we even had to say something the first time shows the level of service this establishment gives. I do have to say the waiters service was good just the owner that clearly doesn't know how to keep customers Sad part was, when looking at the menu, I made the assumption that the pasta dishes was pricey for the area because it was probably home made. It definitely wasn't! Save yourself the disappointment.
This place is a jewel tucked away in an underrated little town in the western mountains. The food is scrumptious, the presentation beautiful and the wait staff is excellent.
Great food, atmosphere and service. Best eggplant parmesan I've had.
Nice place. Very good and creative foods. The waitress was very efficient, very pleasant and competent. Over-all it was an excellent dining experience. I highly recommend it.
great place fun
I've never had a meal or drink here that I disliked. Brunch, lunch, dinner, dessert, it's always fantastic.
Love coming here. The food is always great and the only thing that beats it is the service!
Loved the food here! Service was not so great. It took a bit longer then we expected, and she was not to friendly towards the end of the night, but I figure it was a large group and she was near the end of her shift.
Nice place. Very good and creative foods.
Good eats in rural maine.
Prime rib is exceptional. Friendly, attentive staff.
Food is always excellent! Great service.
What a wonderful surprise to find in a small town. The building is historical (Bass Shoe factory) and the food was delicious. No complaints with their outstanding service.
Food was excellent..staff was good...hostess was a little unfriendly though..
We've been here several times for both lunch and dinner. Wonderful, lovely food. Recommend highly.
Great place! I have a food allergy and are always so accommodating. Best tasting food around! Also a wonderful staff.
Great as usual. Great meal, atmosphere, and bar area is beautiful. Only wish they had some sour beers.
Located in Wilton. Not easy to find, but on any map . Excellent in every way. Incredible food. Good tap selections.very good wine selections. And the service and atmosphere make me feel comfortable. Try this before going all the way to Portland.
Awesome food.
Food was delicious! If you plan on coming here on the weekend, call ahead for a reservation!!! I plan on going back another time.
Best food in Western Maine. I visit yearly from Montana and this is a must eat on every visit. Worth the extra $.
Surprisingly To say the least !!! Awsome Food and Great Portions !! Great price !! Dont waste your Money any were else in the town of Wilton to Eat !!!!! Will be eating there more often ....
Great atmosphere. Seating both inside & outside. Friendly service & good food. Prices are reasonable, however the quantity of food seems to have diminished a bit and parking is sometimes a bit tough. Overall a good experience though.
Amazing food amazing atmosphere amazing customer service and waitresses
Absolutely delicious!
Wonderful restaurant and quite the surprise! Atmosphere is cute and quaint. Food was fantastic! I’ll definitely be back and recommend to others! (Not the best picture but it was fabulous!)
I had the Seafood Saute and it was amazing. No one at the table was disappointed with the food, atmosphere, or service.
The good and the not so good.... First of all, I did find my new favorite beer on this visit (Allagash 12 Counties) so thank you for that. The staff was polite so no complaints there, and my boyfriend's seafood pasta dish was beautiful and delicious. The issue came with my meal. Being so early in the evening, I ordered off the light menu, the Portabella Caprese Stack. The mushroom itself was small, but tasty. It came with bagged chips, a jarred pickle and a child's snack cup of plain applesauce (literally the cup with the tinfoil top that I give the kids I babysit) . It felt very much like a child's dinner. I was very very disappointed that 3/4 of my food was what I could have gotten at any 2 star dinner or probably have in my own cupboard at home. The chips were bland and the applesauce, what do you say about Mott's applesauce? I don't like it, so I didn't eat it or the chips. Is it too much to expect actual restaurant cooked food when you go to a fairly expensive restaurant? Maybe so, but at any rate, I left hungry and am currently on the hunt for a good pie place to stop at on the way home. :( Edit after response: in no way does that explain 3/4 of my plate being convenience store junk. And no, I am not going to buy pie from you when I was so let down by the meal. Bye.
Excellent food and service! The homemade marinara sauce was amazing.
Scrumptious food, great atmosphere, and great service! A local gem.
Brilliant food
Delicious food, great atmosphere, building is beautiful inside! Some menu items are a bit pricey though. Staff is always friendly and helpful!
Our family of 5 all tried something from here between the kids menu and regular adult menus. I have a child who has a sensory disorder and doesn't eat much but he ATE there including trying the appetizers ordered. Everything was delicious. We will definitely go again. And make a reservation next time because we didn't know that was encouraged since the dining areas fill up fast. We ate out on the deck which was lovely listening to the brook and added wonderfully to the atmosphere. Save room for dessert because the raspberry pie when they have it is worth the extra pound.
Good food and good service
Great food and drinks, friendly staff
Third time eating here. If there were 6 stars they earned them, easy. Outstanding service and food. Be prepared to walk because there is a little parking lot and there very well may be a wait. Because... it’s outstanding food and service.
Wonderful Italian American cuisine. Wide ranging menu, with many unique twists. Delightful decor, linen tablecloths, formal place settings. I imagine you should add a star if you don't get to the big city much as there's not much worthy competition in the Maine woods.
Food was good, service was fine, beautiful setting (we had brunch on the deck). Would go back if we ever visit the area again.
They have a nice place to sit outside on the outdoor patio, great food good hospitality.
I really can’t sing enough the praises of this beautiful restaurant in its unique location in Wilton, ME. After we ordered, my fidgety 8-yr old went to the hostess station to ask for another children’s menu to draw on and the proprietor herself offered her her choice of coloring and activity books. Plus endless crayons! And the food. It was delicious. Sophisticated and authentic and AMPLE. We made a second meal out of the leftovers. The drinks were creative and well-crafted too. But what brought us in in the first place, and which was a slam dunk win, were the GLUTEN FREE options. My 8-year old has celiac and is very difficult to feed. She loved the GF garlic bread and the GF penne with basil pesto. The menus: the regular menu includes indicators for what dishes were GF, and which could be made GF. And if that is too complex for you, they also have a special diet menu so you don’t have to suffer the disappointment of seeing a dish you want, only to find it doesn’t come GF. There is clearly a lot of love and thoughtfulness being poured into the running of this restaurant both in the dining room and the kitchen. It was a delight and I wish we lived next door, and not in NYC where Calzolaio would rise above even our favorites.
Calzolaio is a great place for friends to gather for drinks and fine dining!! Excellent food and service! Lovely atmosphere!
Love this place
Marvelous food, second to none.
My first time there and omg they are amazing! Pricey but definitely worth it !
Faith was awesome! The food was great the deck was incredible We loved it
Outstanding restaurant, only place close to the food here was the Back Bay Grill in Portland and that cost three times as much. Seafood grill was perfect, real Manilla clams, scallops, haddock and shrimp all cooked perfectly. Service was excellent too and great atmosphere!
Best eats in town!
Absolutely fabulous meal! I'm hard to please. When I hear great things about a place and then try it, I am usually disappointed....but Calzolaio delivered. Looking forward to my next visit. I had the piccata haddock and maple vinaigrette on my salad. Primo!
Pasta is not fresh, seating was terrible. Server kept asking if we wanted more drinks when we clearly were set with what we had. Overpriced, underwhelming & worst of all this place has been here as the pillar of finding dining in Wilton, ME for years now... wish they would use something from a local farm instead of Sysco I see delivering almost daily
We have been there twice now visiting my brother and his wife. I have Celiac and am so happy with the selection and quality of the food there. The staff is knowledgeable and very nice. We would both highly recommend this place to anybody.
Good food nice atmosphere, would definitely come back
Great service and great food!
Food very salty. Garlic cheese bread very good. Service good.
Best dining option for high quality food in Franklin County! Seafood, Italian and steaks are all excellent.
Excellent food
Great food great service
Great upscale dining
Great place. .. Great service always. .
Food was amazing! Their marinara is so tasty and they have great tomato basil bisque.
We have tried this place a couple times now so far the food has been outstanding, the atmosphere inside or out is nice and the service has been too notch. We can't wait to go back.
Great food and excellent service. The ambiance is very nice. Fun place to go and be with friends and family.
Good food, great waitress, nice spacing between tables.
Best food in small town Wilton, Maine!
My favorite place in Franklin County for some delicious pizza or a special occasion. Nothing beats a warm summer afternoon enjoying a beer on the deck listening to Wilson Stream.
Excellent food. Nice place.
Good restaurant with all kind of food. We ate pasta but we were told shrimps and lobster are the best.
Excellent Italian food tucked away in a rural town in Maine. I was pleasantly surprised to discover how good and authentic the food is here. Can't wait to go back!
Great food and service! Sad lobster bisque was on the menu but they don't make it anymore! But the claim chowder was amazing!
Great burger but the pemaquid mussels are delicious
Love sitting by the river for lunch
Great food, great service
What a gem of a restaurant! Food was yummy! Atmosphere so cozy!
I had the shrimp scampi,it was so good, my friend had the chicken it was great. We will definitely be back. Our waiter was very attentive. Loved the bread. Thanks for a great evening we traveled 2 hrs to get there. Well worth it.
I was in the area this weekend to watch the Pats game with friends, and of course we met at Calzolaio for brunch. I had the blueberry pancakes that I have been craving for awhile and one of my friends had the philly cheese steak omelette. Niether of us could finish our portions. So good! The best part was I bought a quart of marinara, meatballs and a baguette to take home with me. Had a great feast last night and just finished the leftovers! Thanks guys for feeding me so good three times! Pete Harrigan
It is a little pricey, but worth every penny. Not really a restaurant for people wanting to eat traditional meals. However, if you have a refined palate and a taste for adventure then this is definitely the place for you. Service was professional and the establishment was clean. In fact my mom commented on how she saw a table wiped down four times without occupants.
The most excellent Italian food we've had in over a decade. Not to say we haven't been to several nice places with great food but this set the bar so high (and we've done lots of traveling).....I honestly dont know if we will find anywhere like it. The atmosphere of the old re-done factory was done tastefully and respectfully to the industry and history. From the outside it looks like an un-assuming brick building in a cute part of town next to a beautiful creek. A local suggested the chicken carbonara because they make their own sauce....oh ....my.....THE best ever. We are still raving about it hours later. The pizza was beyond delicious and the 'Italian sodas' were such an awesome touch for the kids. I'd have to say the piece de resistance had to be the tiramisu. I had one supremely authentic and tastey tiramisu 20 yrs....YES, 20 YEARS ago. I have tried, with much disappointment, through the years to find one as well done and this FINALLY hit it on the head. The service was very awesome- and knowledgable. Can't say a bad thing about this place. The kids and husband and I will rant and rave about this place to anyone and everyone for many years to come. Again, the bar has been set very high. Thank you!!
We were a party of 6 for breakfast and we asked to sit on the patio and Our waitress Liz was wonderful! The patio was fantastic and everyone loved the food! We brought our friends from out of town and they all loved it! We will Def go again! :)
I had a very poor experience with the staff here yesterday. Perhaps something about my look or appearance was off putting to both the hostess and the waitress as I was ignored twice by both, however one may not always look their most presentable when grieving the loss of a loved one. My mother in law had just passed away yesterday morning; my parents called in a mid-sized take out order and paid in advance so that my wife, father in law, and myself could have some food to last a couple of days while we grieve and process our loss. I walk into the restaurant and patiently and quietly wait to be addressed by the hostess at the waiting area in the entrance. I was not greeted, though she saw me. After she seated the people ahead of me, she proceeded to ignore me until a father and son walked in behind me, who were promptly offered a table outside. Once she took care of them I finally politely said "excuse me, ma'am..." and without looking at me she said "one minute" and walks away. When she returned, another group of 3 walk in and she smiles politely, says she'll be right with them, and steps away. Meanwhile, a bar tender comes out from the back, sees me and the three behind me; she proceeds to ask them if they're being helped and they say yes. She does not ask me anything before turning away to go back to where she came from. At this point, I finally say "excuse me" again and walk up to the bar and state my purpose. No smile, no hello from the bartender. As she leaves out of sight to retrieve my order, the hostess comes back, ignores me standing by myself and addresses the group of 3 again. The food was fine and the outdoor patio looked inviting enough that I would have loved to dine-in another time with my family, but the consistent lack of consideration was so offensive and off-putting that I will never again return or recommend this establishment. I will never forget this experience. Class is not measured by how people treat you but by how you treat others. In my singular experience, I found class to be lacking in the front, customer facing aspect of this establishment.
Not kosher. Always busy.
Excellent top notch quality food prepared perfectly, loved it...
Great food. Great atmosphere. Spinach and artichoke dip appetizer is really good!
Nice atmosphere, great food, very nice staff
Excellent food, service and atmosphere!
Great Italian food where you least expect it!
Great place to eat, wonderful atmosphere ,great staff. !!! awesome menu
Calzolaio's is easily the best restaurant in the area. Really good food, chill service, great selection. Try the Dragon Slayer pizza!
Best place to eat within 70 mile radius.
GREAT Italian food
Great food. Great atmosphere.
Very disappointed! My husband and I ate here 2 weeks ago. The food was amazing! Couldn’t wait to return. I work retail a couple towns over and have been highly recommending this restaurant to my customers. We made reservations for 4 people on a Saturday night. The couple that we had with us had not been here before and we were very excited to have them try the food here. We had a unexpected friend visit us before we left and we asked her if she would like to come along. I had been looking forward to eating here ever since our last visit. When we arrived we were asked how many in our party as they got ready to seat us. We told them we had reservations and that we had 1 extra person. The hostess was very rude and said that they couldn’t accommodate another chair at the table. This was difficult to understand for the fact that when we first walked in they asked how many in our party as they were getting ready to seat us. The extra person that we had with us was the size of a small child barely weighing 100 pounds. The very snobby hostess said that they just couldn’t accommodate another chair at the table and turned us away. Maybe she was the owner of the establishment, she acted like she was. We just couldn’t believe it. They were going to sit us somewhere else when we first walked in but because we had reservations for 4 and not 5 we could not be served. Our plus 1 felt terribly about coming along and said she would sit at the bar where there were 2 empty seats. No restaurant is worth staying under those conditions.
Really good attention and delicious food one of the best restaurant on this area.
The portions were great for the price service was excellent and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. I would love to just be able to wander around and take in all the antiques on the walls throughout the place and hear more on the backstory of the building.
Great food and professionally run.
Great venue in the old Bass Shoe Factory . The food is excellent. Lots of garlic. Loved it. Good with kids
Awesome brunch. Service is great
Delicious food and atmosphere!
Wow...will come back again and again...best food around, great prices, love the decor and staff is exceptional
