Met the owner on the sidewalk blocks from the restaurant. Ask for directions to a place to eat. He said if we did not mind to follow him and he would show us a good place to eat. we went about two blocks and we went in this restaurant called and he's and we sat down to eat and started to order. he came back and told us that he owed us an explanation that he was the owner and because he had misled us we would get free New England blueberry pie on him. Food was just wonderful. Clam chowder to die for. Staff so friendly. Generous portions. He came back to our table several times during our meal to check on us. His name is Rick and he was just so nice. Great personality to match how great the food was. Pie was perfect. Would go out of our way to eat there again.
Great food. Great drinks. The people here a great.!!! Service perfect.
Enjoyed a delicious seafood stew and a lobster roll on 10-16-17. Met Richard Frantz ( mgr ?) and he was very informative about the history of the restaurant. Looking forward to returning there.
A casual place for seafood and great local beers. The server was very knowledgeable about the local brews. A good, standard, lobster roll, but get the coleslaw. The potato chips were the same generic chips you can get in any grocery store. The service was a bit lackluster despite the place being mostly empty.
Great crowd, great staff and atmosphere and they have darts
Sloooooow service. Waited over 1 hour for food after ordering and place was only half full! Food was good, but not worth the looooooong wait.
Great seafood, great customer service
EDIT: These people don't even understand why I wrote the negative review. Portland is full of wonderful restaurants, and you can do better. Just walk down the street and pick whatever looks good. **** I've worked in restaurants before, and this place sucks. Waited 20 minutes and the waiter still didn't bring our soda...so we walked out. Horrible service. We tried to order food when we placed the soda order, and they told us that "other tables were in front of us". Walked down to a better restaurant.
Great food for the price, entertainment was fabulous.
Good food good service, no complaints. Love the popcorn machine!
This is a great place. Food was good and it was a nice cozy atmosphere. Plenty of alcoholic and non-alcoholic choices. Plus, it has a nice maine vibe.
Great live music and local beer selection
A casual, local-friendly bar that's easy to miss. Pool tables, popcorn, & frequent live music are all nice touches.
I did not have a good experience at this restaurant. It was poor customer service
Good service and selection. If you are looking to have a couple drinks in a relaxed atmosphere, this is the spot
Quaint comfortable live music happy staff good drinks
Ducked in here after a couple of other spots had an hour wait at 4pm on a Saturday. Pleasantly surprised. Great cheesesteak. Crabcake appetizer is good too. Service was a little slow but worth the wait.
I have never done a review on a restaurant ever, but today I felt inclined to. The service is terrible. We probably waited a solid hour for our food and had to practically beg for tartar sauce to go with a fish sandwich. I don’t know where these people learned to wait tables! Never came back to check on us and never apologized for the long wait. The whole place was waiting and frustrated. Don’t go here!!!
Very good casual food, friendly atmosphere, and live music every night. There are some TVs for sports and a pool table and darts.
Great drinks, our bartender was genuinely interested in us enjoying ourselves. Also great live music!
My wife and always enjoy our time at Andy's. Friendly staff, Good food, and a nice local beer selection. The fried shop appetizer was awesome.
Great music, great food.
Friendly service, wide variety of local beers, and yummy New England style food.
A great place in Portland and great grub as well as live music
Good food, service and beer selection. Nightly entertainment is a bonus. Several nightly specials are offered in addition to their menu items. A good mix. Sitting at the bar is a joy. Talking to locals as well as tourists is interesting always.
We waited over an hour to have our food served. Very weak food and poor service. Toilets horribles. I do not understand the previous positive reviews. EDIT: Even your answer underlines the quality of your service.
Great atmosphere and service. Beer was good, clam chowder great and crab cakes to die for. If we're back in Portland, we'll go back.
Best shrimp sandwich around! Friendly staff, great prices.
Loved it!!
Decent food. They had live music that night which was pretty good.
Food good nice people you must try the French cider is fabulous
An awesome spot in Portland. Everything we ordered was outstanding and the owner even stoped to talk with us for a while. Great place for food and drinks!
Great venue but the band was too loud when we were there to catch up with friends.
Small place but worth the stop. Lobster roll was very good as well as the blueberry pie. Prices reasonable for the area.
Fantastic food and fantastic, personable staff!
Good spot on the water for lunch. We enjoyed the crab cake and pulled pork pizza!
Really great food. Friendly staff.
Nice inviroment, quick awesomeness, Hip STAFF", Totally recommend this to locals as well as our guests from afar!!
If you are looking for a crazy old pub with lots and lots of publike character, then maybe this isn't the place to go. However if you are looking for a place with lots of character of its own, a good menu with very well prepared food, and a very nice selection of beer then this is a five-star place for you to pick. The people here are very friendly and outgoing and we had a great visit for over 2 hours without feeling rushed. I would absolutely return to this place again and again.
Nice atmosphere with the wooden interior. Good location near the waterfront. Fish and chips were tasty. Decent selection of about 10 local brews.
Good food. However the mussels were very small. Cannot compare to the Corner Bar in Sag Harbor NY where you get a bowl of huge mussels in an amazing farlic sauce. This garlic sauce was good and with the garlic bread was nice. The BBQ pulled pork quesadillas were fantastic! Made there had a very nice flavor to them
Nice quiet place for lunch. Clam chowder and lobster roll were delicious. They had a gluten free pizza option for one of the kids. Everything we had was delicious.
Love this place! As a vegetarian, it's extremely difficult to find a nice place to eat when you visit Portland with friends, that offers something for the meat-free diner and the carnivore. This place has an abundance of both, and we are so thankful that they exist! My favorite is the Mac & Cheese; it's especially great with added broccoli. My husband gets the Black Bean Burger and says it's great. The nachos are already vegetarian as is and are probably the best nachos I've had in a long time. Their hummus platter is good, too. They have a nice selection of beer and hard cider; Downeast is the best. We can't wait to visit again during our next trip.
The clam chowder is everything you’d wish for in Maine. Get a bowl!
I'm giving this place 2 stars only because the wait staff was nice. Portions are terrible! $8.50 for 2 chicken fingers is absurd. The clam chowder lacked any taste at all. I had to put so much pepper in it to get any flavor. Overall I should have known better when we walked in and the place was so dead when everywhere else was pumping. Seriously, avoid this place, I wish I took the other poor reviews seriously.
Great pizza! You ca. Taste the freshness.
Delicious food & drinks, great service & live, local music
Great little pub! Stopped in for a late evening bite and very much enjoyed the chowder and beer. The bar tender was so incredibly friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was perfect. Highly recommend this pub.
Great food great prices. Awesome atmosphere
Awesome atmosphere.Good food. Lobster bisque is a little pricey but tasty.
Live music every night, good service, OK food.
Good food. Great Maine beers on tap. The occasional live music is not overbearing.
Awesome place. Loved it ❤️
Friendly staff, amazingly good pub fare, and entertainment. They were kind as could be to us out-of-towners for a local haunt, highly recommend for a true flavor of Portland!
Nice little place to stop. Fair prices for seafood. Hot dog was great. Lobster stew was excellent but fish and chips was over cooked and I think had to much breading. Very clean and staff was friendly. Live music Clean bathroom. 1 stall
Seafood stew, lobsta mac n cheese, blueberry pie a la mode. Yummm
Very friendly and hospitalabe...check out all the live autographed pictures of live entertainment they've had.
I come here a lot to play pool while my friends drink. The food is great, they have a lot of local beers and the staff are always friendly
We didn’t get to spend a lot of time at Andy’s but for the the time we did spend it was all five stars. We we drawn to this place by the “Maine Blueberry Pie” on the menu board outside. Having had just completed dinner next store some pie sounded pretty good (who doesn’t like pie on a cold rainy night? So, the pie was the only thing we had, but folks, lemme tell you, and I kid you not, that slice of Maine Blueberry Pie is the best Blueberry Pie I’ve ever had. Ever. If the rest of the food is as good as the pie.... whoa!
Good food, good service, and free entertainment in a fun environment.
You get, grate place to stop for a brew and snack.
What a classic spot. Cosmos and a chicken club (real roasted chicken) while listening to the Pickn Pears play folk. I believe there is music most nights.
Best fish and chips I've ever had. Can't wait to try more of the menu. Great live acoustc music. A fun, family run place with warm, welcoming atmosphere. I'll be back!
Had a lobster roll of course. It was just how it should be, real, lightly dressed chunk lobster. Service and atmosphere were good.
Neat little place
My kind of vibe!
Great food! Loved the high quality and great tasting food. Could be priced a little more reasonable but otherwise good stuff!
Great service. Waiter was great. Food was delicious. The bathroom was not good. No door on stall and bathroom was in Hall... Everything else was excellent.
Small place with good food! We ordered fish and chips(comes lightly breaded which is amazing) and a cup of chowah both were delicious. I wish the live music(Saturday night) they had wasn't all originals or we would have stayed all night! The back room was closed off due to a function they had during the day and they never bothered cleaning it up. Would have been nice to have some more room otherwise it was perfect!
Extremely disappointing experience. My friends and I went here before a show at the pier and I can't explain how disappointed I was. We sat down right away which was the only bright side of my experience. We ordered nachos and a cup of clam chowder...an hour later it came out. We paid the bill and left. Missed a good part of the show waiting for the appetizer.
We loved this place!! The staff, the food, the entertainment were all awesome!!!
Good food and nice staff. They were very accommodating. Their AC was broken when we were there and the owner took the time to come by our table and apologize...only took two minutes, but it was a classy touch
THE pub to go to at the harbor of Portland! Clean, friendly staff and reasonable prices too! Tasty food and a full bar!
If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I am not the typical kind to complain, but my experience warrants such. The waitress made no effort to be friendly, and lacked any knowledge of the menu. Our meals took ages to come out and arrived wrong and cold. We promptly asked for them to be corrected and when they weren’t, we asked the manager who happened to come by. Despite waiting another 20 minutes for the correct food, it never came. Lastly, I found a shell in my lobster roll. When I reported this to the manager, she simply explained “these things happen.” Well, if there is to be shells in food because “it happens” then this is no establishment I wish to eat at, and encourage others to take warning before dining there. If your experience is anything similar, expect over-priced food, absent service, and shells in your seafood.
Great Choudar!
This place was absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The food was good and the service matched. The music was good as well bonus is that she looked and sounded like an angel. She covered some songs and played some of her own.
Great great food and atmosphere. Their service could use a little work (although I've only been once so it could've been a fluke)
Great service, delicious blueberry pie and salted caramel cheesecake, super selection of beers and wine. The band, Rippleton Cross, got the crowd going and entertained us all night. The staff is so friendly and will do whatever it takes so you have a great experience.
Great vibe, great local beers on tap, the food is always good and there is live music every night! Been coming here for a while and have never been disappointed. Worth a visit if you're in the old port.
Love this low key place with great food. I went in the off-season and felt as welcomed as if I was a Portland native. The owner even chatted with us for a bit.
Not bad for the waterfront, it's alright, I'd go again
Great all round
I met a few friends here for dinner and drinks to hear our friend, Jim Gallant, sing. It was a wonderful evening and the service was great! The entertainment was terrific listening to Jim play old songs along with some of his own! Fun was had by all!
Good food and specials!
Ask about the cherry! And 3-5 Wednesdays! p.s Megan rocks. Great vibe, good beer and pool table in the back. I missed the music and still had a great time.
We dropped in for some drinks and music and were not disappointed. The ambience is missing a lot, but the music was comfortable and well done, even though hard too hear from time to time. We ordered some munchies and those were pretty good and there staff was friendly and present when we needed them but not in our face when we were listening. We will go back
Food is good. Beer selection is also good. Service leaves something to be desired. Nice staff, just not enough
The location of the pub is just great - Old Port, waterfront area! It is not a typical pub but it is a nice place to visit. Definitely a great option for a light meal and a drink. Small portions, and nothing spectacular about the food (just appetizers/snacks). By the way, staff is attentive and friendly.
I was disappointed with the food service. Then as I was sitting at my table, a woman was behind the bar interrupting the bartender. I felt so bad for the bartender. I’m pretty sure it was the owner. Not a great way to run a pub!
Great food! Great atmosphere!
The best Lobster Roll
First time in Maine, it was a great gateway to local beers and seafood.
If you're looking for a Maine experience with a local pub this is a great place to come to. This is a classic pub with pub fare food as well as a full-service bar. The food is delicious and the service is really good. They have live local entertainment during the week. Great place to grab a beer and listen to some live local music. You can even order scallops from the bartender from the boat... Now that's a Maine experience if you ask me!
Small space, but good atmosphere
Outstanding staff. Great vibe .
Here's a hole in the wall bar just off the regular Old Port beer trail. A narrow space in an old waterfront building with a bar and some seating In front and a larger odd shaped dining /pool room in the back. The staff is professional and fast, very old school Portland. Nice, full local beer menu and pretty standard, filling food. Free popcorn! They have music every night, usually semi acoustic blues or Americana type stuff. Worth a visit when you want a drink in a unique space. Check out the "ghost" of the old staircase in the back room!
Best fish sandwich I've ever had. Friendly low key place with great specials and music. Awesome for families as well
Pleeeaasssee turn down the music! Great live music, but drowns out all conversations
Great place to eat! Delicious food, great service and a non chain restaurant.
Great food and service
Very fresh and priced fairly.
Just spoke in front of city council members to state that just sneezing in your sleeve is more important than paid sick leave for employees. Yeah... Doesn't sound clean and won't go there again.
I went on a Wednesday around 7-8:30 and it was empty. They had live music and I got to play a couple games of pool. $3.50 for a PBR and $1 for a game of pool. They also had a dartboard. I don't know if they have darts as I didn't ask. Good place! I'll go back if I make my way down to commercial street again.
Andy's is always a good spot to stop along the oceanfront. Last visit we came in at probably 9:00, just about every keg was kicked. The bartender said new kegs were on the way tomorrow. I understand a couple of kegs being down, but when someone orders 5 different beers and they are all kicked that just seems to be poor planning. I love this place and I'm only writing this so they can learn from it. I know its challenging to keep track of the quantities, but try staggering your keg orders so they don't all run out at once. 4 stars because they have the best live music, probably the best food from a pub, a pool table and darts and a great atmosphere. They don't make bars in Portland like this one anymore.
The food and service was phenomenal and I enjoyed the live music
Excellent pub with everything you could want. Great local draft beer selection, very friendly vibe and the food is outstanding! The Reuben sandwich is the best I've had in Portland since Full Belly Deli closed. Live music is a bonus. Check it out!
Great lunch there. Service was fast and friendly. Nice variety.
Great service, good food but high prices for small portions.
Great music, delicious pizza and the staff were great. It is a bar. Do not expect a special meal. But, it is a fun place I'll return to when in Portland.
Great staff, good music. Would like to see music stay later.
Great food, friendly staff. Highly recommend
Excellent service and food! The people and atmosphere was top notch!
Never been there but it sucks anyways
A long thin bar serving some decent looking food. Nothing in the beer stakes that set me alight. In fact we had to settle for a bottle of Bud. Average. Wouldn't go back.
I was disappointed with Maine as a whole and will never return, it's a very boring state with the majority of the population being senior citizens. I love clam chowder and always had the impression that Maine had the best clam chowder in the country, wrong!. You'll find better tasting clam chowder in a can. The seafood wasn't all that great either, I would say California offers the best seafood. The servers here provided a very friendly and welcoming environment but the food was a huge disappointment. Especially considering I traveled all the way from Colorado for the seafood and scenery. This is one of many seafood restaurants in Portland that are a disappointment.
Good food and good service, always a homerun here!
The staff was attentive and the atmosphere was very pleasant and positive. The food was so good I wish I had more time here. They have a good selection of local brews and the “Cidah” is on point and is refreshing and not overpoweringly sweet. Come on in for a good time and good vibes, you’ll be glad you did.
They gave our party of 10 a spot last night in the back room with pool table. A good atmosphere for our party of four adults and 6 kids from 12 to 22. Server Tyler was friendly and helpful. We had fried clams and oysters - great. Chowder was amazing but lukewarm. I had a flight of IPAs and everyone else enjoyed Maine Lunch. We'd go back again!
Visit this place when they have live music (every night 7pm to 10pm EST). The bar and wait staff don't just give great service but good conversation as well. FREE POPCORN! We've come back here numerous times just for their lobster stew (they don't skimp here). The men's room doesn't have a sink but there is a sign to tell you where that treasure is. If you have the pleasure of having Susanne as you're waitress she really is a treat (and deserves a healthy tip!). When the cruise ship season is over this really is a treasure to visit.
Great food, fast, friendly service.
Here for lunch a few days ago. Great food and great service. The owner was very nice and came and chatted with us for a bit, he was very sweet to our kids. Ordered a small mac and cheese which was delicious and a very good size portion. Buffalo chicken salad which my husband said was great. I had the crab cake sandwich which was on the smaller side, but still was filling because unlike some crab cakes the was hardly any filler. Just large chunks of real crab meat. Delicious!!! I would highly reccomend!
Excellent experience all the way around .
Best Burger, lovely and unkomplicated Service, sometimes live music. Casual.
Very good lobster roll. Had clam chowder, but no much clam. Decent selection of beer and wine. Very good service. Reasonable prices.
My husband’s review is below, and I’m upset he only gave 3 stars so here we are. Yes service was slow, but the waitress apologized for it. He enjoyed his beers, we both enjoyed the lobster rolls, and the blueberry pie a la mode was great!
Good food. Was last there 3 years ago. Atmosphere was young and fun.
Great gluten free pizza
Quesadilla delicious!! Great peopel!
Absolute awesome place. Try the chicken salad on the tea cup croissant.....
Good service and music. Nice atmosphere.
They were open late so we thought we would give them a try. This was the worst food that we had ever had. We both got a bowl of clam chowder and then fish and chips. The potatoes in the chowder were still hard and it had no taste. We should have sent back the fish and chips. I don't know what they used as "batter" but it was horrible. Fish was very thing and very strong tasting. Fries were cold and soggy. If anyone ever goes here from out of state and they think that this is what Maine seafood is all like, they will be very disappointed. On top of that, it was very expensive. We don't mind p@paying if the food is good but this wasn't. Service was great. Water was good
Good food and customer service, but extremely hard to find parking.
Great beer selection, attentive staff, and live music.
Drinks came fast. Food came slow. All food tasted good to great! Good music and atmosphere!
Wonderful place to socialize with friends, have some great food, and enjoy local craft beer.
Great food, atmosphere, live music
Treated us amazingly well. Went with a group of 18 and they gave us a private back room with a pool table. Amazing
Fabulous place to pop in and have some good food, a cold drink and a nice visit with friends. Perfect place to wait for the next boat at CBL!
Best quesadilla ever. Sausage and veggies were over the top delicious! Friendly service. Music was fun. Just right.
If you’d like to wait for more than 30mins to get your order, this is the right place to come! Update: when we were seated the server didn’t inform us there will be long waiting time otherwise I would not be writing this review here. Also the people entered restaurant after us got their food earlier than us, that’s another reason why we are not happy.
Awsome food, variety, great staff Highly recommend
Awesome blackened fish, great music and very kind staff. I'll be back
Enjoyed the draft and small clam appetizer while listening to some good music.
Cold food, cold service . It was worth a try but definitely not worth it.
Lobster roll is to die for
Very comfortable and causal
Update: stopped again in 2019 and had a delicious meal with live music. Was great in 2015 and 2017. Their soups/stews are awesome and they have a good selection of Maine beer.
Super friendly staff, great lobster stew and crab cakes. A must try!
The best lobster stew ever! Every bowl made fresh.
Excellent lobster tacoes. Very friendly staff.
Good chowder and seafood in your standard pub setting. Beer selection is solid with a number of local options I hadn't heard of including ciders. The standout for me was the lobster roll which they offer in either butter or mayonnaise. Onion rings were good but had a heavier breading than I was used to so I didn't finish them. Unfortunately they don't have great water views like some places along the shore but they do offer live music which is great to listen to while eating along with a pool table in the back. Decor has some fun nautical elements to look at while enjoying your meal.
Extremely nice staff and high quality seafood.
Great place to catch a bus in St George, Bermuda.
Nice halpy hour drink specials
Good food, awful service, though I realize service is hit or miss. The table next to us would probably think the place had good service. Maybe they had a different server than us, but the truth is I am not really sure who our server was. The table of four next to us had their food delivered before ours even though they never walked in and sat down until 15 minutes after we ordered our two basic entrees, and my wife miffed when that server thanked them for their patience. And there is nothing more to this, meaning we all looked the same, spoke the same politeness, sat in the same general area, etc. I believe there was another table of two that waited roughly as long as we did for our food. Might have been just a matter of the cook gone awol for a half hour; cannot really say. Though once our food was dropped on our table I had to call our server back to ask for place settings. There was more of the same, but I think you get the drift. Though I will add its interior is more like a diner/family restaurant, not a pub. My wife was on the fence over staying after first seeing the inside, not because she minded the setting but because it did not match what she was expecting. We sat near the door and watched two separate parties walk in and walk right back out. Just saying. I would guess they were at 80-90% capacity the time we were there.
This place is great. Everything we had was really good, not expensive, and the service was great to
I loved this place the clam chowder was great and the owner was great waiter was great
We ate at Andy's close to 3 years ago and when we knew about this trip wanted to be sure to come back for the warm lobster roll and soup. We were not disappointed. Food and service were fantastic. A high light of the day in. Portland.
