My Father first introduced me to Royal China, 45 years ago. Ms. Shirley is as vibrant then as she is today! Every time she orders for me, I am happy like a kid even though the Fun Arcade is gone! :)

Good place for delicious albeit little expensive dim sum!

Bama Patrick

Customers who came after us where finished and leaving before we were served our entrees. When we asked about our food, we were informed the shrimp fried rice was the holdup.

Earleen Barrilleaux

Excellent food and great lunch specials for $10.00 or buffet. Service could be better.

Chris Woo

Good food but little on the pricey side

Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne

Better than fast Chinese food but not by much.

My husband and I have made a tradition of trying dimsum in every city we go to. We were really excited to try dimsum at this restaurant but unfortunately it did not meet any standards. First the price for was dimsum was overpriced (most expensive of all the places we tried). Secondly, if you're Asian stay away from this restaurant. It's telling by the clientele fyi. The shrimp rice noodle dimsum we ordered tastes like old expired flour and the chicken feet was overly seasoned with anise and Chinese 5 spice but nothing else. Thirdly poor service. We waited the entire time there just to get water refill. Of all the 7 places around the world including the Amsterdam, the Hague, and Rome, this ranks at the bottom. Also the soups (egg drop and wonton) are sweet for some reason.

I don't review places nearly as much as I should- but I'm sitting in the car because I don't want to forget to write one. This was the best Chinese food I have had in a very long time and definitely the best I've had in New Orleans! Highly recommend the egg drop soup.

Got to be the filthiest place In Metairie. Food sucks.

We eat there now and then. The food is good, especially soups. The service is even better. Only downer might be the darkness of the place, but it doesn't bother me, reminds me of the '60s when everything was dark. We always go back. Very nice people.

Blessed that the storm called Hurricane Barry in New Orleans ended up a non-event, we headed out for a Saturday night dinner. Very few places were open, but an old favorite, Royal China, was indeed open. When we walked in, the room was nearly full, and there were people waiting on takeout. Ms Shirley took us to a table, and we perused the menu. A young gent took our drink orders, and It was a good night to eliminate stress with a large hot sake. We ordered a series of appetizers, but with a bread shortage, shrimp toast was out, but shrimp rolls, paper shrimp, and coconut shrimp were in. All were excellent. We ordered the house combo fried rice, with plenty of shrimp, pork and chicken. We also ordered one entree for each of us, knowing there was going to be a fine leftovers dinner by Tuesday. I ordered Seafood in a Nest,Chinese vegetables stir-fried with jumbo shrimps, scallops and pecans in a mild sauce. Tasty with lovely presentation. My son ordered Hawaii Delight, Fresh jumbo shrimp, beef, chicken sauteed with fresh pineapple and vegetables. His "nest" was half a pineapple. Wife got her favorite, boneless fried chicken. We had enough space for a couple of almond cookies and fortune cookies. What made this special is how Ms Shirley and the young man handled the front desk and the entire room with grace and efficiency. I am unsure how many folks were manning the kitchen, but the taste, serving, and presentation was special especially given the worker shortage.

Good hole in the wall Chinese food, taste great and good price. They have a large selection of dim sum and their noodle are really good. The place is a little broken down and sometimes smells but overall the food is worth it.

Angela Grassette

I am not a Chinese food fan, so trying a new place is usually forced on me. My husband wanted to try it for Father's Day and Royal China came highly recommended from one of his friends, so I gave in, and boy, am I glad I did. We ordered the Orange Chicken (excellent), Beef Short Ribs (delicious), Combination Fried Rice (perfect), Crab Rangoon (just fine), Egg Rolls (yummy), and Singapore Noodles (my favorite). We also ordered some shrimp dish, but it did not come out as my husband expected. I did not try it. They also gave us ample sauces and fortune cookies, plus a bonus container of regular cookies. Overall, I'LL BE BACK!

I like their food. A little more small on the menu and on the lunch buffet then a typical Chinese buffet or restaurant for my tastes but it's really good food.

Food was very good but also very expensive!

Was not a pleasant experience. Hot and sour soup was delicious. However, the Schezuan Shrimp was not good. Took one bite and you could tell right away that the shrimp was tossed in the Schezuan sauce right before serving, so the marinade did not cook into the shrimp..had that clean, unseasoned flavor and peanuts were just tossed on the top. Food should be an experience not just something to fill an empty stomach! I told the lady who seated me and she said she would get the manager who turned out to be my server. She was not pleasant and said, "so, what do you want me to do?" and was very put out. I said, "I dont know. You're the manager." She was very huffy. I was made to feel very uncomfortable. I had hoped for a different experience and surely won't go back.

Brad Molinario

Huge portion in the Mandarin chicken! Enough for 2. Dont forget the egrolls and soup always hot!

Options for dimsum in New Orleans were limited but my friend really wanted Chinese and Royal China. It filled a spot but wasn't anything to write home about.

Alexander Woods

Best hot and sour soup in the city. The entrees are also very good and reasonably priced. The dim sum menu is legendary but you need to ask for it.

Dale Ordoyne

Delish!!! Great fresh food! The eggrolls and fried rice(s) are made like restaurants used to make them when I was a kid. I also had the pork Egg Fu Young, omg so wonderful! Great alternative to 5Happiness which has gone down the last few years, very inconsistent! Royal China is much closer to home as well!! My new Chinese restaurant!!!

Absolutely worth the visit! Best, authentic dim sum ever! Specifically ask for the dim sum menu and have fun choosing from all the different dishes. The steamed dragon dumplings were my favorite although I loved everything I tried. The pineapple fried rice dish (served in a pineapple half) was huge! If you find yourself in the area, you have got to give this place a try. You'll be glad you did!

Death

Great shrimp egg rolls and fried rice.

Demi Winters

I can't believe this place has so many good reviews. It is the worst and most overpriced dim sum I have ever come across. The steamed pork buns were huge and we couldn't wait to dig in, only to find they are 90% bun and about 4 pieces of pork inside, completely dry and tasteless. The cheong fun is horrendous. Not even a roast pork option which EVERY dim sum I've ever had offers that. I'm half chinese and have been to many dim sums in hong kong, london, nyc, san fran and I knew nola has bad options but i didn't expect it to be this bad

You better be a shrimp lover if coming here. The buffet is small and every option is something with shrimp. There’s not even crab Rangoon, it’s simply a - you guessed it- fried shrimp made to look like a crab Rangoon

This is our go too Chinese restaurant and we live on the other side of Metairie. They will do Gluten free too, but if you are very sensitive I would be cautious. I am somewhat sensitive and it works for me. My wife loves this place, great hot and sour soup, fresh veggies too.....

Dennis Dillenkoffer

Still one of the best Chinese restaurants in metaire. You get a lot of food for the price

I go for the fried rice

I had the hot and sour soup. It was the first time I liked tofu. If you go here, though, beware. The plates are big and meant for the whole table.

Beat Dim Sum in the city.

Al Prieto

I went there today for the lunch buffet the only downfall is the very limited menu

Katherine Hu

The dim sum was terrible and very pricey. Everything was soggy and took awhile to come out since I think they're trying to reheat it in the back. Spent over $60 for 7 dishes and the only one I enjoyed was the sauteed spinach. One star for having dim sum available weekday lunch, I guess.

Brian Medus

Good price for what you get.

I love this place. They have HUGE portion sizes, and lot of items to choose from. My husband and I usually split the shrimp wonton soup, shrimp eggrolls, & combo fried rice off the Dim Sum menu. The items on the regular menu are meant for sharing. The service is great & the staff really make an effort to get to know you. I'll be a customer for life!!!

The place is a dump and hasn't been cleaned or remodeled since it's heyday in the 1980s when it was actually considered upscale dining... but oh the food. That is the reason the tables are stillnl full and there are always 15 people waiting at the bar for pickup. Empress Lomein might be the most perfect Chinese dish ever invented. Locals only.

I did not care for this place at all. The sweet and sour chicken was 90% breaded. The service was very good but the food did not match the quality of employee. Neither my grandma nor my dad cared for dishes either.
