REVIEWS OF Red's Chinese IN Louisiana

Collin McDonald

Simply incredible. The Hawaiian fried rice is fantastic, as is everything on the menu. The chef is really cool and the service is spot on. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Jeff Biestek

Cheeseburger fried rice, general's chicken, and the brussel sprouts

A. S.

General's chicken sauce is good, but the chicken itself is insipid. The Chinese donuts with matcha sugar and sweet cream were the best thing I've had from Red's Chinese.

Renada Berry

Different type of experience. I enjoyed it

Paige Crouse

OMG, wish I had never came here because I’m going to eat here way too much! The egg plant dish was absolutely perfect, as well as my cucumber gin drink. All the people working couldn’t be any nicer!

Kaye Deel

The food is good but SO salty. I'm not really down with salt like that .

David Morris

Chinese w/ a funky twist. NOT the same old thing.

Michael Cunningham

Definitely a dive but the food is amazing.

Spencer Williams

Very good food. No too expensive.

Donald Newcomb

A quirky Chinese-Creole fusion joint. Be aware that the portions are HUGE; easily enough to serve two. If you do the usual and order one item per diner, you will need a wheelbarrow to carry the leftovers home in. So, cool it and share. It's served "family style" anyway. Neighborhood's a bit seedy but that describes a lot of NOLA.

Shaleen Meyer

Cocktails ate better than the food! Kinda disappointed with the vegetarian options.

Kraig Richard

Tastiest Generals chicken I ever did have

Ashley Weems

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! I saw this place on a cooking show. Decided to give it a try..... WELL WORTH IT!!! I got cheeseburger fried rice. Absolutely delicious. If you're in NOLA this is a must stop by and check out eatery!!!

Brandon Foltz

Delicious food and huge portions!

Vasken Pekmezian

The fried chicken was delicious, I came back another time to eat it again. The pork buns are also incredible. And don't forget to try the eggplants. Employees are very kind

Nicole McNeil

Amazing food!! Great service!!!

Kathleen Jefferson

Great food, simple yet unique Asian fusion. Craft cocktail are amazing. Friendly staff, casual yet hip atmosphere

Voice Monet

Top quality service!!! Glad to enjoy more fresh & forward thinking cuisine options is in the neighborhood✊

Clinton Annan

Yo, Red's has it going on. So so good. The beef and broccoli is to die for

Xereaux NOLA

Blah. Not worth dealing with the hipsters.

Kaisha Daley

Interesting location. A hidden gem in that is hidden in the basement. Food was fresh and tasty. Service a bit slow but worth the wait.

Rylie Eames

This place is not what i anticipated. The actual building is a lot larger than it seems. The patio seating is excelent. The food is incredible. The service is just as great . All in all it's a wonderful spot. It's a creative spin on Chinese but everything we had was delicious . There were 4 of us so we split everything family style. The pastrami is fabulous, the Hawaiian fried rice with bacon and curry is colorful and a little sweet with the pineapple. We also had the chicken dumplings and pork belly buns. All delicious and I highly recommend trying it out.

Wil Bowman

A unique family dining experience with shared dishes. Staff is helpful. Prices seem a bit high, and the menu is fairly limited. Overall, the experience was pleasurable.

Bryn Johnson

I really wanted to like this place but came out pretty unsatisfied. Pros: Very friendly staff. Good and unique flavors. Good portions. Cons: Food comes out randomly and when the kitchen decides to cook it (never ended up receiving our second dish because it had been over 30 minutes since the first arrived and we canceled it and left). Smokey and unventilated inside. Poorly managed (or lacked any management).

Corbin Walsh

Eclectic little place, lots of vegan/gluten free options, large entrees. The smashed cucumber was filling and stupid good, plus the wait staff and atmosphere is hella chill

Joe Bevins

The food here is amazing. I couldn't get enough of it. There are a lot of great choices, the pork buns were great, the generals chicken was amazing and the hamburger fried rice was well... Absolutely out of this world.

Stephen Schirr

This place is awesome, the prices are totally reasonable and the food is delicious. The food is served family style, which is good as you will want to try multiple items. Also, try the ginger soda.

marie cetor

Definitely get the Cajun fried rice

Matt Goldin

Unbelievably awesome inventive food!!!

Aurora Diaz

Came here on a really hot and humid night in NOLA back in June , ordered a beer and had the ginger scallion noodles and it really was an experience. It was amazing.

Jeffrey Palmquist

Excellent....great takes on traditional Chinese!!

Kyle McAnally

Great little out of the way restaurant that puts some slight Cajun flair on very tasty Chinese dishes and has fun list of cocktails. Tried the craw rangoons and Hawaiian fried rice which were very tasty.

Steve Replogle

My daughter and her husband love this place, but my own experience was nothing special. Passable and about-average Chinese food. I know they also offer dishes that are a kind of Chinese-Southern fusion, so maybe I will need to try those next time. It was a very busy place when I visited, so obviously there are a lot of people who enjoy their food.

Tayler Jones

I think I found my new favorite restaurant! This unassuming restaurant serves up the most delicious food. The atmosphere and staff are full of character. Nathan was our server today, and was absolutely hilarious. He really made our experience shine. Order anything off the menu and I am sure you will be pleased. The food is plated beautifully, accented with color, and full of flavor. The hot and sour soup was probably the best soup I've ever had. DO NOT PASS THIS PLACE UP. Delicious, large portions for very reasonable prices, delightful staff, and inviting art. I will be back!

Nikki Adamson

Was worth every penny!!

Kerry Mccarthy

A very different spin on Chinese, however very good one. Will revisit to try other entrees. Overall a very good experience.

Kortneijo Cox

OMGOSH I have found my food heaven. Red Chinese has put it's own twist on Chinese food. In fact I think some is actually more authentic Chinese then most are used to. With use of lots of spices and eggplant and vegetables and fruit with amazing sauces. Mmmmmmm.....but, no doubt they have absolutely made this cuisine their own. I've only had take out but, I plan to go there and taste every thing on the menu. The Ginger Scallion noodle was....en point. The flavor of the ramen was addictive. I couldn't stop eating it and their ability to balance the curry and other spices so that my nose was running but, I wasn't having to guzzle water was a dream come true. The Hawaiian fried rice e was another mother of my taste buds weeping with joy. It's unique, it makes perfect sense really. It's magnificent. I've lived here for 5 months and am actually taken aback by the lack of choices and diversity of food in the area. Every menu is the same. If I do find anything that's not, "Cajun". It still just feels generic. You want a true dining "experience" try red Chinese. Recommend

Joshua Stahl

I had a friends reunion of all my friends that studied abroad in China with me here. There were about 10 of us, some who lived in China for 5 years. All of us agreed that this was the best Chinese food any of us have ever had. If you are in New Orleans, you definitely want to go here.

Gretta Golden

Very unusual good. Extremely delicious!

Patrick Armstrong

Super creative menu like Kung Pao Pastrami. Can't wait to try Cheeseburger Fried Rice.

Kenneth Wills

Ordered Reds Chinese through their online delivery service only to have the restaurant decide to cancel my delivery order. No explanation was given. Called the # we were given to find out why we couldn't get our delivery only to have an automated system answer. We have had Reds delivered to us in the past & we thought we would do so again, but it's sadly obvious this won't ever happen again. Nor will I ever return to the restaurant. While I enjoyed their product the lack of professionalism in their methods has left me more than a bit unhappy. Was it because I live in a working class neighborhood. I could accept that if you simply made that statement up front instead of having me wait for an hour on a delivery they obviously did not wish to provide the service for. Won't be spending my $$ at Reds Chinese again!

Vdvppt AdAppt

They helped my friends birthday be one of the best she’s dad in a long time! I couldn’t be there in person and they made sure her day was special!PLUS she said the food was on point! Thank y’all so much ! I

Yotam_ and_Anna

Five stars for this humble, delicious place. Affordable! Freaking delicious. Really.

Paul

Decent food and friendly staff.

Ryan Ruyle

Portions are large. High quality ingredients.

Robyn Cernak

Kimchi and Generals Chicken is where it's at! This place is worth it

Grace Peng

This is fusion Chinese food, not really Chinese food! Unfortunately, I am Chinese, don't like the food, which tasty so wired. the service was very good.

Renee Robertson

We walked in expecting the traditional Chinese food however this was a different take on their food. This is for sure a place to visit after a night out of partying to nurse a hangover as the food is very heavy and greasy. The portions are large and come family style which I appreciated. The Cajun Rice seemed thrown together similar to something you would find in your own home versus a restaurant (if that makes sense). The general chicken was served with whole pieces of chicken and we enjoyed the flavor. We sat outside and were immediately attacked by flies, a bee, and mosquitoes. The backyard is beautiful but I recommend placing something outside (fans) to help with the insects. Overall not sure if I would visit again but I always enjoy the experience of trying new restaurants.

kevin Mackay

Excellent food, the hot and sour soup was amazing. We had that, pork belly bun and drunken noodles, struggled to finish the portions, easily filled two people.

Marc PoKempner

Probably a one-of-a-kind worst restaurant experiences ever! The rice was hard=under cooked! Somebody poured salt into the main dish – maybe a disgruntled employee - hopefully on their way out ! More recently, I’ve joined friends there and the food was fine. Poor ventilation and slow service are still problems however. I want it to be good - late night Chinese food in New Orleans is hard to find…

Kay Jay

Food was ok, but the staff, and actual resturant was filthy. Really- Really filthy.

Eddie Bridges

very good. ridiculously so. the food is phenomenal, the cocktails a bit complicated.

janell cannady

The cheeseburger fried rice is everything you've ever wanted.

michael pechon

Outstanding food! Love the creativity of the different recipes.

Christopher S

Amazing uniquely flavored Chinese food. Craw rangoons & the Kung pao pastrami were insanely delicious. Kitchen was a little backed up (the waitress let me know and suggested an appetizer while I waited). I enjoyed the drink options & the food was most-definitely worth the wait.

Rebecca McLaughlin

The food was mediocre for the price, and the service was terrible. Our server made a mistake putting in our order, which I’m totally understanding of, but then she kept complaining about how long her shift had been and tried to rush us out even though they didn’t close for at least an hour, and it was her mistake that made our meal take longer. She was too afraid to check on us again after we hadn’t paid the check right away, so another server came over and actually FLICKED the cookies off our check into the table to try to rush us to pay out quicker. It was super awkward and weird. It was my first time there and I definitely won’t be back!

Raoul Duke

Great food and service! Family sized portions for sharing. Bring a friend.

One-Off TV

Food and service were good. Interesting take on Chinese dishes. The food was hot and had great flavor. General’s Chicken was very strange, but delicious. It was served on the bone and tasted like a fusion of Orange and General Tso’s chicken. The shrimp fried rice was delicious, but not really sure of all ingredients. All things considered, a good experience.

Lam Nguyen

What I was able to have (Veggie Fried Rice) was good. Interesting flavor and generous portion. The waiter was attention and knowledgeable about the menu. However, we were waiting for our second dish for at least 30 minutes. When were told that it would be another 5 to 10 minutes, we told the waiter to just cut the check. Looking around the restaurant , it was not busy enough to warrant the wait. There were only about 15 people in the restaurant. If the kitchen can’t even keep up with that volume, that’s not a well-run kitchen. Plus the ventilation system is horrible. Smoke from the kitchen is everywhere in the restaurant. Hip or not, we will not be coming back.

JJ P

Not a restaurant I will frequent often, but definitely an experience! Very unconventional food. My favorite was the Hamburger Fried Rice. It is also quite pricey compared to most other Chinese restaurants.

Tyler Kemp

Easily some of the best Chinese/Chinese inspired dishes I've ever had. The Generals Chicken and Brussel sprouts are a must have. The smashed cucumber is delicious

Jessica Mizell

Erin was my server and she was the best!! The cheeseburger rice is to die for.

Joshua Chiasson

Great, interesting food. Review the menu first. You're not going to find sweet and sour shrimp or pork in garlic sauce. What you will find is amazing Drunken Noodles that will have you scraping the bowl with a spoon for the last bits of sauce and Cheeseburger Fried Rice that denies every hesitation that the name of the dish gives you. Try it. Small dishes are not too small to share between two people. Order a few and try different dishes.

Eden Shlomi

Get the eggplant! It was v yummy. DO NOT GET THE GIANT FAKE ASS DRINK WITH A CANDLE IN IT. It says it's for 4 ppl I shared it with one friend felt NOTHING. HUGE WASTE OF MONEY. What is not a waste of money are the fried black eyed peas. Great value and delicious. Also our waitress was very cute and wonderful.

Shanda Mack

Food was nothing to brag about! Overly priced! Best thing was the Thai Chai daiquiri... And even it was a small portion

John Holmes

Great menu.

molly corbin

What a unique culinary mix of classic American and Chinese flavors. It is AMAZING. Hats off to the culinary imaginations here at Red's. This place is a must. Great drinks too ;)

Pensacola Lash & Beauty Bar

Just heated up my third helping of the kung pow pastrami. wife had the Hawaiian fried curry rice. portions were massive...walls were red, what more could you ask for...2 year old approved of the fortune cookies as well.

jason colbert

Decently priced great tasting food with some awesome attentive staff

Sarah Cochran

Very interesting atmosphere! Up front it's just a bad but walk to the back and find the most enchanting patio. The food and drinks were delicious. The staff were helpful, polite, and fun. The food is an interesting, yummy Asian-Southern fusion. I can't wait to go back!

yatish kaveti

Average food huge portions

Catheryn Major

Absolutely delicious, whole in the wall spot. A American spin on Chinese food for sure. The beef and broccoli was made with the most tender brisket I've ever had! And the shrimp fried rice with Hawaiian bacon is simply divine. I haven't had one thing that wasn't spectacular and the cocktails are amazing. Please try the Thai milk daquiri!!

atheist southern

Very hectic. Food came out staggered and in no particular order. My friends dish came out a half an hour after mine. He got so hungry I had to share mine with him. They forgot the rice and we had to ask for utensils and water refills. I noticed other tables were having similar problems. When the food finally came out it was over spiced and the rice was cold.

Mari Bliss

We were really excited about trying Creole Chinese food, but it just tasted like average Chinese food. The fried chicken was so sweet it tasted candied and came out so late we barely ate it since we were already full. Beef and broccoli was really saucy and salty. Air ventilation system was poor and the smell is definitely not coming out of our clothes anytime soon.

Randy Recker

Best chinese in the city. Perhaps the best restaurant. Erin was a great server with our party of 6. Go here!

Michael Ballard

Folklore has it that one day while on a train to Tibet, the chef at Red's Chinese had a brief but enlightening conversation with a monk. As they talked, the monk noticed the chef's red aura. The monk knew that a red aura indicates a rare combination of strength and passion. However, this aura can be positive or negative depending on a person's heart. The monk asked the chef one question..."What stands between you and happiness?" The chef sat pensive and speechless right until the moment the monk was about to exit the train. He leaned over and whispered his answer to the monk, who simply nodded in approval. As he exited the train, the monk cupped the chef's hands and chanted 5 simple words directly into the chef's palms. The chef has never shared the monk's words with anyone. But since that day, guests not only enjoy the food...they randomly comment that the food at Red's Chinese seems to be prepared by blessed hands. When waiters tell the chef...he simply nods in approval.

Greg R

Food is amazing. If they had AC, it'd be 5 stars.

Puto Pena

Fusion of Asian, Cajun, and western dishes with hefty servings satisfied our cravings as we share and enjoy each bite. Their truly friendlyand warm staff would make you come back for more!!!

Jeff Morgan

Wonderful food, wonderful service. Wonderful Kiki! Thank you, Kiki!

Harlan Shay

Not so fresh my Crawfish rangoon had like one crawfish and it tasted rancid. Didn't bother to taste anything else, threw it in the trash

Shady Grove

I needed this. Food was inventive yet comforting, and the entire space was charming and cozy-a bit of a surprise given that I've driven by a hundred times and never noticed this restaurant in the basement area of a building. We ordered far too much food, as the small portions were sufficient as an entree, but it probably worked out for the best as I was drinking their Aviation daquiri and it was as boozy as they warned me it would be.

Kevin Simmons

Hawaiian Chicken Fried Rice is great!!!

Kenton Pase

A hidden gem. Great food and fun atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Elyse Hawthorne

First of all, this should not be classified as Chinese food. The vegetable fried rice had barely any rice and was sweet, and most disappointing of all, it was tiny as hell for $10. Second I paid $6 for their crawfish Rangoon’s which I don’t necessarily have a complaint about except for the fact that there were only two of them. So basically I paid $20 for food that could literally fit in the palm of my hand. Unless you’re made of money, don’t do it.

Miguel Molina

I’ve never been a fan of this place; I was forced to eat there again recently. The food was intolerably salty..we couldn’t eat more than a few bites of each dish. The crab rangoon were literally fried pouches of dough, devoid of any filling. Worth going once if you’re in the area. Probably won’t be going back after this time though.

Chip Hilbert

Very good food except the brisket dish had enough fat to make one sick

IntrepidTeach

Chinese food with unusual little twists. Food and service were great, only problem was the A/C. It was almost unbearably hot and steamy, so I thought they didn't have any A/C. They have those invented wall units since they're in a basement space. Go during cooler weather!

Henry Joyce

They are neither serving "Chinese Food" in the style of any region of China nor in the the deep fried, corn syrup covered American style most Americans are accustomed to eating. This is a Soul Food restaurant, meaning this is food for your soul. Dank, delicious brussel sprouts, flavorful unique combination fried rice, and a singular atmosphere. Somewhat pricey, but very worth it!

Andrew Fink

Family style, great portions, price is what you would expect. Awesome options and food. I didn't want to stop eating.

Ian Severan

I only give it two stars on the strength of the pork belly buns which were good but not great. Also, if I spend $100 on take out I expect a certain amount of customer service in the 5 minutes that I'm in a restaurant which I didn't receive. Recap: poor service, so so food, 100 bucks gone not a recipe for repeat business

Carol Barr

Great food. Excellent service. Unique food Not typical Chinese. Friendly.

Maria Sanchez

EXTREMELY awesome service. Kind attention, great smell, and delicious food. Will not disappoint!

Stephen MacDonald

A unique take on Chinese cuisine. Not a single dish misses on execution. Try the General's Chicken for crispy gooeyness, Craw Rangoon for yummy stuffed and fried wontons, or the Cheeseburger Fried Rice for a nostalgia explosion you didn't know you needed.

Catherine Ohman

Quality food and good prices

Jacob Monk

Fantastic food, great staff, tried a couple of drinks off their menu all were delicious. The bartender also made me the best Sazerak I've ever had. Gonzo is a phenomenal bartender.

The_Art Of_Writing

Hard to find, but worth the search. Street parking. Try the cheeseburger fried rice.

Sam Hagen

Great service, and even better food. If you've eaten at Mission Chinese, you WON'T be disappointed. Food is less 'Szechuan Pepper centric', than Mission, which I know can be a barrier to entry. Can't recommend more highly. Come here with a large group so you can try more dishes (sharing recommended).

Patrick Rademaker

Why eat mediocre food somewhere else when your dreams could come true here!

Cher Oats

Service food and atmosphere is unique, laid back and everything you are looking for. Always happy to take suggestions from the server, I sat at the bar and had a bird's eye view of the evening prep. Got the daiquiri and then the mussels as a starter. Halfway through the bartender advised plain rice for the rest of the sauce with the mussels. Great meal! Then did the bankock night cocktail with the pickle plate as an ad hoc cheese plate / dessert. Great combo. Chinese with a Nola twist and couldn't be happier!

Robert Holmes

Guy Fieri on DDD ck it out and gave it a high five so after checking it out we agreed.... Definitely a dive with great food and atmosphere.

Max Schaffer

The pork buns here are like god-mode good

Sahara Peters

Food was great, vibe was low-key, service was good! What else could you ask for? It was a little dark and smokey. And kind of loud. But we enjoyed ourselves. We got the beef and broccoli and the veggie fried rice, both were great, especially the beef and broccoli sauce. Prices were reasonable. I would definitely go back and recommend to a friend.

Seamus McGuire

Two words - Hip. Chinese. Wait wait! Don't leave yet. Just because it's hip doesn't mean its too cool for you, its perfect for you. Amazing staff, super affordable and ridiculously delicious. I recommend it all. Bring your significant other, best friend or someone you're trying to be friends with again here because you'll go home smiling.

Lucas Frey

Awesome take on American Chinese food. Huge portions.

Mac Miller

They are a little hard to see from the street and have a small menu, but the food makes up for that. The "Craw Rangoon" is amazing. The "Drunken noodles" had really complex flavors with a great bite to it. Going on my regulalars list.

J. Grant Boling

Cheeseburger fried rice!? Yes, tastes just like it.

Andrea Brown

Sort of a speakeasy vibe. The food & craft drinks are great but you’ll small like Chinese food the rest of the night if you sit down there. I recommend takeout!

Kelly Marquize

Can't go wrong here. Amazing, innovative food!!! The Generals chicken and Hawaiian fried rice are to die for!

bert mullins

Incredible fusion of Cajun andand American Chinese favorites. Portion size is huge. Flavors are original and fresh. Wonderful hidden gem in a city full of hidden gems.

Daniel Beauchamp

Delicious, Chinese food with cajun influence. We had crawfish rangoons, drunken noodles & general chicken. So good

Jesse Cornes

Red's is an interesting place. You walk in and see a bunch if man bunned hipsters in the kitchens. It's dark and cramped. But you can't judge a book by it's cover. The setting is relaxed and intimate. The servers are all very friendly and the right amount of chatty. And man can those man bunned, mustachioed chefs cook! I haven't had anything bad on their menu, even dishes I'm not typically fond of are great here. Do yourself a favor and go there now!

valerie Nightshade

I love this place! Don’t judge it by the outside! Not authentic Chinese and not trying to be! Tasty drinks and fancy glasses. Amazing and creative options. Even tasty things for vegans! I hear the place went to some highs and lows. The last time I was there very recently I was very pleased. It’s also a fun place. Warm, busy interesting and the music rocks. One of my favorite places In Bywater.

Retha Justice

Does NOT live up to the hype. We ordered the pork belly buns and the Hawaiian fried rice w/chicken. The buns were decent, however the chicken in the fried rice dish was as dry and tough as jerky!! You could easily see that it was old and warmed over. Thankfully the server refunded the cost of the dish. I definitely will not return.

kim delaney

Atmosphere was very noisy. Hampered any dinner conversation. Food tasty but chicken dry. Service was rushed even though we went after 8pm. Maybe if we weren't sitting at a 2 top in the middle it would have been less noisy. Second time to visit and first time was a little better. Hoping it was just an off night.

Lauren Bone

It's so dang good. Wishing we could have tried everything on the menu. Will just have to come back!

Charlie Souvannavong

Creative fusion of Chinese and American Southern cuisine. However, half of the dishes ordered we're on the salty side particularly the Kung Pao pastrami. We did enjoy the brussel sprouts and the Cajun fried rice. The dining room was a bit dark and industrial for my taste. If we happen to be in the neighborhood, we would order take out and eat in the comfort of our home.

Toby Acosta

Incredible food. Like, really incredible.

Writers logic

I've been there twice and I'm still looking for a dish I like.

Emmanuel Bonti-Mankah

I went there to buy Chinese food, beef and broccoli and God I regretted it. It was so expensive and did not taste anything Chinese. Broccoli in a thick beef source with rice that taste like nothing.

Ty Mixson

I ordered a large beef and broccoli $19. No eggrolls available was a serious letdown. No duck sauce available. I did not order a Spicy beef and broccoli with potroast and potroast fat. I did not eat but one bite wich i spat out. Way too spicy to eat I should have donated that 20 to an animal foundation. I would have been more satisfied. Awaiting response for my decision to return.

Chris Carbine

ABSOLUTELY one of the best meals we have had in a long time. Most definitely will return. Great service, very casual. Highly recommended.......

Alexandria Shrake

I found out today that Diners Drives In and Dives is going to be on here. After my first experience here... It’s everything I have ever dreamed of for Chinese food. The authenticity of homemade hand cut noodles with the fusion and spices of an upscale boutique restaurant- and at the right prices! The bao is slow cooked then flash fried, drunken noodles are killer with a spiced black bean sauce, the service is friendly and not pretentious. If I could put this place in my pocket and pack it back to Canada I would.

Dan Brunner

Truly truly superb place for delicious and satisfying food. Great mix of veggie friendly and meaty options. All around STANDOUT. One of the best servers I have ever had ever. Time in New Orleans is precious and I recommend spending some of it here

Paul Maniscalco

Always amazing!

Jennifer Burke

Three words. Cheeseburger Fried Rice. Enough said! Seriously through, you MUST eat this if you go. Our other favorites included the Craw-rangoons, General Chicken, and Kung Pow Pastrami.

Aaron Benoit

Its different when it comes to Chinese. Your either going to love it or hate it.

JzhoTae Nahckohndae

Amazing food with a not so traditional Chinese experience.

Rob Rubinas

Order one of everything and the sweet tea daquiri. It's worth it.

Jack Roberts

Wonderfully Surprised! "Wow...just wow!" Completely and surprisingly lives up to every bit of it's great reputation for delicious, creative, inspired food. The restaurant itself is very unassuming and not obvious from the street...save the small square red sign out front. Its located on the lower floor of a two story building with "Tacqueria" clearly emblazoned on the front. Entering the small, dimly lit space, you notice first the bar...and then the open kitchen directly across from the bar. As you venture further into Red's, finally a few small candle-lit tables become visible. That said, we were quickly greeted by very friendly/warm staff and ushered to a table-for-two of our choice. Then the atmosphere begins to set in...simple yet inviting if not a little NOLA cool and funky. We immediately felt comfortable and looked forward to the menu so many rave about. Then came the simple two-sided, thick paper menu. You may notice the drink side is more extensive than the food side...wine, beer, etc as well as some very interesting and inventive cocktails The dining menu is significantly shorter than those of most restaurants, but what it lacks in scale is quickly recognizable as a fascinating mix of creative, inspired dishes. I felt immediately like having one of each item on that little menu. Note: Do heed the wait staff's warning...dishes are served family style...ie the portions are larger than you might expect. Regardless, especially if you likely won't return to the area for a while, I definitely recommend trying a few things. We shared the following: - Thai iced tea daiquiri - Crawgoons - local inspired version of the crab rangoon...crawfish and and a habanero honey sauce! - Pork Belly Buns were awesome! - The Kimchee is some of best, most flavorful and intense I've had - General Chicken - local take on this popular dish using whole fried chicken drums, wings, breast, etc...gain, best I've had ever - My wife had the ginger noodles ramen bowl and loved it! - I finished w a Far East inspired Permanent Vacation cocktail...if I'd eaten any more I might have remained there, comatose, indeed on a more or less permanent vacation - But wait...we weren't done yet. The donuts embellished w a green tree glaze had been fried to perfection. Delightful finish to our amazing meal! Overall, it was absolutely obvious the food was prepared with soul and love. You could taste it in every bite of every dish, as well as in the funky down home atmosphere, pleasant service, and thoughtful presentation. As we departed, amazed and already recalling our experience...probably because we didn't want it to end, the staff and cooks all smiled, waived, and said "thank you" from open kitchen. This experience we'll not soon forget...don't pass up the opportunity!

Christopher Steinman

Great food! A liitle bit difficult to find/see if you dont know where to look. MOSTLY nice staff ( had a LESS then cordial waitress [Brittney was the name on the recipient ] but PERHAPS customer service isnt her thing or it was an off night) Overall, good place each time I have been

Leslie Molson

It's an industrial basement space with sticky tables, with smoke billowing from the open kitchen. Concrete floors make it very loud. The lighting is so dark one can't read the menu or even see what's on one's plate. Ambience aside, the food was bland and mostly room temperature. We ordered the beef and broccoli (which, I was told, cannot be made spicy for some reason), pork belly buns (cold), and a couple of vegetable dishes. The $12 beef dish had three—yes, three—slices of brisket, and the eggplant (served in long thick chunks) was unevenly cooked, which is why normally Chinese food veg is cut into uniform bite-sized pieces before hitting the wok. The long chunks just tasted soggy, as if they had been boiled. I ordered a side of rice, which had obviously been sitting in the bowl for hours waiting for me, as it was completely chewy and not fresh. Oh, and don't get a frozen daiquiri, which was boozy yet undrinkable. The service was good, although the waiter seemed anxious to recycle our plates, coming to retrieve an empty one every few minutes. So yes, we ate most of it, but we were really hungry. It wasn't bad, just boring and bloating. Cheap, though.

What the he'll are these guys doing to Asian food? Something damn amazing! That's what. This place from the street looks like something you should drive pass, but don't do it. Stop here, eat here, you'll thank me and I don't even know you. Seriously I get the veggie fried rice and fried black eye peas (They call the peas something else on the menu). Every darn thing I try here taste amazing. Give it a shot.

The food and service was the best we had during our stay in New Orleans.

¾ Chinese, ¼ southern. Friendly & knowledgeable service, impressive drink menu. Unexpected, will be talking about this place for awhile

Great spin on Chinese Cuisine, Great service and the prices were a bargain. The folks who complained about the prices need to just stay at their local buffet. This place rocks.

Presentation and quality of food... 10/10!!! Speed of service excellent and felt well taken care of by our server. I got the veggie fried rice and boy was I surprised. Not only was the most beautiful plate of fried rice I've ever seen... It was also the most delicious!! So many different vegetables, fresh herbs covering my plate of rice and I didn't even want any soy sauce at all! Amazing all around.

I'm personally not a fan of "Chinese" food, so I was skeptical when my friends suggested this place. But man oh man! the food was absolutely delicious and nothing like any "Chinese" food I've had in the past. I ate the veggie fried rice, which was really yummy, as well as the general's chicken. The chicken was sooooo freaking delicious, I was really shocked. They don't make their general's chicken like some of them restaurants in the mall, etc etc. it was whole pieces of chicken that was fried and had the general's sauce on it. I was so shocked as to how much I enjoyed it. I look forward to visiting them in the future.

Family style dinner with two serving sizes to choose from. We tried 6 different dishes and all were wonderful. Not your typical Chinese delivery or buffet type food. However, they do deliver. Would definitely recommend this neat little restaurant. Staff and service were great!

I really want to like these funky, indy, hole in the wall places, but I'm struggling to understand what they're doing with the menu. I don't understand how kung pao pastrami is "southern-influenced Asian"? It appears that most of the dishes are basically stir-fried things mostly composed of bell peppers and onions little spice with unusual protein here or there. When we were there the place currently had a problem with their ventilation and was filled with cooking smoke. The notable exception on the menu where the pork belly buns, which we're like Vietnamese tacos but with pickles and pork belly period that combo worked well but I think the rest of the restaurant needs work and they definitely need a new vent Hood

It’s doesn’t look like much from the outside but once you walk in your eyes will be pleasantly surprised. It has character and style. The food isn’t traditional Chinese food they put their own spin on things but it’s a delicious spin! Lots of vegan options as well!

I came from Texas to visit my family at the university hospital. I walked in to pick up food because it had the best ratings. The lady walked me to the bar so that I can order. I waited for over 10 minutes and the bartender never came to take my order! Bad customer service so I left!

One of my favorite places for Chinese in Nola. Fits right in the neighborhood. Food is hearty and the price is reasonable.
