I just moved to the area (West Monroe) and I'm disabled, and use a service dog to manage my disability so that I can function as much as possible like a non-disabled person. When I walked into the restaurant, the woman that worked there was on the phone and immediately started to tell me my dog (who was vested, though not legally required I do it to help prevent access issues) was not allowed. I said "service dog" and pointed to his vest. She told the person on the phone she needed to go and would call them back later and then went to take my order. After messing up my order several times before paying, and my having to correct her, I finally paid and started to sit down and wait. She told me, repeatedly, she could bring my order outside for me. I said I was ok. She then asked if I had a vehicle I could go sit in. I told her that it was hot outside (NE Louisiana, this time of year, YEAH! HOT!) and I was going to wait inside in the a/c. Not a few minutes later my food was ready, the person who was there before me, their food was not done before mine, as it should have been. My noodles of my food were not cooked all the way through. My bag did not include my receipt, no napkins, and no fortune cookies..
ALL places of business need to be educated that services dogs are legally allowed access, and we, the disabled person, have the right to be treated like everyone else! I'm horrified that the person before me was forced to wait for my uncooked food to be prepared before mine, simply because I assume, they wanted to rush me out of their restaurant. What's sad, is I'm used to businesses treating me like this, doesn't make it right, not at all, but I'm used to it.
Stefani and service dog, Iorek.
