REVIEWS OF Blue Dog Cafe IN Louisiana

Atmosphere is very good as usual, but I have not been there in a few years. It was so popular, there was an hour wait. Since retirement I prefer to eat dinner at 5 pm, but traffic on Pinhook is terrible at that time. I gave them a try at 11am lunch with no waiting . The fried oysters and side of collard greens were excellent. I was disappointed with the cast iron heirloom cornbread because it was more like a brownie and I don't like brownies. They gave me a refund on the cornbread. Very nice of them. I shared an excellent blueberry cobbler with my friend. I will return.

Good food

Cecil McDaniel

Great food!! Great staff!! Impressed had party of seven for lunch and service was good food was good had gumbo and roasted chicken gumbo was good have had better but not bad. Chicken however was very good just simple breast of chicken but cooked and seasoned perfectly. I believe chefs name was Ryan Landry but could be mistaken. Either way will definitely be back.

If you're a Blue Dog fan a visit to the restaurant is a no brainer. We were passing through unfortunately during the hours of 2-5 p.m. and they only serve drinks, appetizers, salads, and side items between lunch and dinner. They have changed their menu and stopped serving a few things which was also our misfortune as I chose their specifically so I could try their crawfish macaroni. Still the pork fat fried catfish, seafood stuffing wontons, and the fried cornmeal battered oysters were a delicious.

Cindy Forbis

Great food, fantastic service

Vivian Katz

We had Sunday brunch here and it was quite good. All 4 people in our group were pleased with their selection, the omelet, shrimp.snd grits and braised short ribs (2x). There was several nice hot tea for beverage and signature cocktails. All together a very pleasant experience.

Jason Goodwin

Normally a 4 or 5, but the soft shell crab was definitely off this time with an odd taste.

Jennifer Hootsell Betts

We had drinks here on a Friday night. We sat in the bar and there was a guy with a keyboard for entertainment and he was awesome. The crafted cocktails were good but the lady that was our bartender (it was her first night and she was amazing!) made The Best Vodka Martini EVER! We didn't tutu any food so I can't report on that but definitely go for the drinks and entertainment!

Roxanne Falcon

Food was good, service was great, will return!

Linda Lueders

A bit disappointing. The gumbo was broth and a tablespoon of rice with two sausage pieces floating in it. The half and half was way overpriced for the portion size. They sat us clear in back away from most guests and it took a bit to get service. This was not a packed house on a Saturday night in a college town!

Richard Abel

The food here was amazing. I want sure what to expect going in but a lot of people I had talked to said it was good. It surpassed my expectations in quality. With that said it was also extremely expensive. Was not expecting almost a 60 dollar bill for a meal , side ,and a drink.

Blue Dog Cafe’s new menu is incredible!! I’ve played music at Blue Dog for years and being a picky eater, I used to find only a few menu items I loved. Well, they’ve totally outdone themselves with new food, new items, grilled and healthy options and just gone above and beyond what they ever offered. With the updates, it is now absolutely a favorite. Do yourself a favor and go try their new options and I guarantee you will find Blue Dog your new local favorite. Blackened Fish and Sweet Potato... holy moly.

Stephanie Manley

Loved dining here. I am a huge blue dog fan. I think there is more art here than the NOLA gallery. The food is good. Great cajun food. Friendly staff.

Kelly Jones

I ordered the duck and it was absolutely amazing. They had live music and the gentleman is very talented. I look forward to going back and trying the blackened redfish next time. I wasn't as impressed with our server as I was with our food and the overall feel of the place. Very comfortable and enjoyable.....

Tekia Hamilton

The food was nice and more upscaled version of Louisiana’s food. The barbecue shrimp and grits was nice. The gumbo was okay.

Maria Rowland

Love all of the Blue Dog paintings. Just stopped in for an adult beverage. Nothing exciting.

Roslyn Caban

I cannot tell you how the food is here because the service was so horrible we left before we ordered. The woman at the door seemed bothered and like she did not care to help us. We had a party of 8. They advised us if the party was more than 6 people they would have to add 20% to split our bills... So we told them we can sit in 2 separate tables. They try to put us in 2 completely different sides of the restaurant. When we asked to sit together they put us in the back by the bathroom which had a heavy odor of some kind of chemical or disinfectant... There were plenty of open tables in the restaurant to sit us together in a more desirable spot. It was also very warm inside this establishment like they did not have the AC on... We were very disappointed as we were looking forward to it in here.... We left before we ordered...

yvette Canada

Nice atmosphere, live music. Good food!

James Burghardt

Very nice staff, food is great, and they accommodated order change. Definitely will come back.

Carol Robbins

Really nice makeover of restaurant-great food as always

Vanessa Hoffmann

Super friendly staff. They were very accommodating for me when I went to grab some take out for my sister at 4:30 (Dinner normally starts at 5) after her surgery and they made her dish early for me. My sister was so happy with her food and loved it! The restaurant also lives up to its name and is covered in wonderful blue dog art. I love the restaurants atmosphere and I wish I could have stayed longer. I would definitely recommend them!

Jenna Viscaya

Worried about the Blue Dog, which we visit yearly. It has been a fa orite for Cajun food. I agree w others on Yelp that the new owners need to get their service and kitchen up to speed. Flavors and recipes are still good (and some not too spicey for a spice conservative like myself). Gumbo is spicey, crab and corn soup not. Temp of dishes is a bit too cool, as others have noted. Still has the same great Rodriquez art on the walls. Please, Blue Dog, expand the menu and get the kitchen heating things up sufficiently!

tjonesbusiness

Outstanding food and great staff. Very authentic vibe. I had the deviled eggs ("A-" I've had more extravagant eggs but it was delicious and the spicy kick was on point), the BBQ Shrimp and Grits ("A", I'm not a huge fan of BBQ sauce but this was thinner and much more fitting for the dish. Grits were sooo good with the cajun sauce), and the Bourbon Bread Pudding ("A++", this stuff was stupid good). Highly recommend. I'd come back any time I visit Lafayette

Charles Day

The food and service was outstanding! Thanks!

Stephen Miller

I had the blacken gulf fish (Black drum) and it was tasty, if a bit small. The boudin balls were very spicy and good. Good beer selection. Our waiter was friendly and tried hard, but was too green to be very efficient.

James David

The food was ok nothing to brag about

Lisa Crowley

My friend and I stopped in for dinner. We were traveling from FL and were hungry and thought we would give this restaurant a try. I am so glad we did! Our food was delicious! We ordered the boudin balls, deviled eggs and chicken and sausage gumbo. Loved the flavors and seasoning of everything! We hope to come back and will definitely eat here again! Service was spot on as well!

Bandmaster Hemi

We arrived at the end of lunch and the kitchen were nice enough to stay open for us. The shrimp and grits was the best I’ve ever had. Cheesy creamy grits and perfectly cooked shrimp with delicious bbq sauce, my god it was good. Lost a star due to the duck Po-boy. Duck could have been slow cooked and with some extra salad, looked good on the menu, not so much in execution.

Ted Colon Jr

Great food and better prices! Everything on the Brunch menu is A1! Definitely try if you are in town or live here!

Kristian Lehner

Place is absolutely wonderful. Great vibes and atmosphere. Highly recommend comming here. The half and half is legendary.

K Jones

Excellent menu. Service was great

Alan Gaspard

awesome.food.. great service...

Rachel LeBouef

Brought a traveling coworker to this LAFAYETTE staple and we were both disappointed. The dishes were a little to ambitious for the execution. I definitely appreciate adventurous offerings but would have like to have a few Cajun Country staples. I have enjoyed this local joint for years and look forward to giving Blue Dog another shot in a few months.

Paula Schott

Use to LOVE this restaurant and come often. We always come with a large group and have never had a bad experience. The first thing we were told, while waiting in the lobby, was we would have to pair up on our bills because policies had changed and we were more than 6 people. I never did understand why restaurants do this, but it wasn’t a deal breaker. Then we got the “new menu”. None of my old favorites were on it

Ruth Olsen

A new favorite. Great staff, manager roams and is truly interested in feedback. Shrimp and grits was awesome

David Granberry

We visited the Blue Dog last evening with another couple and we were generally disappointed. The menu was lackluster. The award winning chef didn't have his award winner on the menu, how disappointing. Quality of the food was good but probably not a place we would revisit. Salad was OK, gumbo was good & spicy, fried fish not as good as expected for a cajun place, shrimp and grits OK also.

Ken Black

Very tasty food and great atmosphere. I really enjoyed all the art displayed in the restaurant

Joel Ehrhard

Saw reviews, menu, and pictures on Yelp. Sadly the place was renovated two weeks ago and their menu was stripped down. Menu was very limited. Food was okay but nothing I'd return for or recommend.

Christine Conley

Delicious crawfish enchiladas and excellent service. Perfect atmosphere for a business lunch with colleagues and our favorite customer!

Marsha Allen

The red beans dish was very salty and we sent it back. The corn and crab soup was watery. The saving grace was the seafood wontons. They were fabulous. I hope the food gets better. The wait staff was wonderful.

Alfred Gingard

Did not meet expectations at all. Server was inexperienced, no app plates or prebussing. Food was mediocre. My Cajun Benedict was ok, but the potatoes with it were cooked to a crisp outside, but an almost uncooked inside. The other three people at my table had similar opinions. Wasn't a horrible experience, but I could've gone to IHOP if that's the standard. Overpriced for the general lack of effort put in. Can't ride on the reputation if the experience sucks.

Pam Wilson

We ordered online to take back to hotel. The boudin balls and crawfish enchiladas were amazing! Loved the sauce and relish for the boudin balls. So delicious! Ordering online using the waitr app was fast and our order was exactly as we ordered! My husband is an amazing chef and he loved this meal!

Ricki Manwaring

Had the crab pasta which was axing along with the corn bread. Was truly fantastic. This was our second time visiting the town both of which we ended up at the blue dog with no regrets.

Jerrod Lopez

Good place for trying safe cajun food

Latasha Jenkins

On a day trip we traveled to Lafayette to visit a friend and wound up at the jazz brunch at the blue dog. The buffet line moved fast and hot fresh product was constantly being put out. We opted for the bottomless mimosas while we sat on the patio. It was a very laid back atmosphere with great friendly service. Before we left we had to take pictures in the back with the giant blue, yellow and red dogs. I definitely plan to come back here again and will recommend all give it a try.

gabe plaza

Came here for dinner. I have to say this place was great, from the friendly be staff at the front to the waitress that helped us, everyone was welcoming. I ordered the blue crab spaghetti and it did not disappoint. Full of flavors and a ton of crab meat. I would order that dish over and over again! They also have a decent selection of local craft beers from breweries in the area. Overall experience was positive with great food and staff.

Yvonne Baker

Well, let me just say. . Blue Dog has seen better days. I have been dining there for years , so decided to check out the New menu by their renowned Chef. I met my girlfriend there to celebrate my Birthday on Wednesday, May 1st @ 4:30pm in order to beat the rush. To my surprise, there were only two cars in the parking lot . I was famished and wanted to order an appetizer and was told that they don't serve until 5:00pm. So, I decided to order a Lemon Drop Martini .When the bartender served it, I noticed it had no sugar on the rim, but tried it anyway . It was awful. And no amount of sugar in the world, would have helped !Next, Finally, we were able to order an app, so we got the Cornmeal dusted oysters. They were basically just a few fried oysters on a side plate with little to no sauce on the bottom .It didn't have any cornmeal and the buttermilk sauce they paired with it was horrible ! Needless to say, we sent the food back and paid for our drinks and left ! And the menu was so limited that it resembled a lunch menu . Not sure what happened, but we won't be back! Unfortunate, because the atmosphere is amazing, but there was no-one there to enjoy it. . Which explains the empty parking lot!

Rickey Johnson

Food was mediocre at best, portions small, wait staff slow. Had their half and half plate; soft shell crab was under cooked, fried shrimp had and off flavor, sauce and “popcorn rice” was salt free; too many great places to eat near here to return.

Jorge Rueda

It's a must visit place in Lafayette, the food, the atmosphere, and the services is simply exceptional. A great way to experiences local cuisine.

Michael Mebruer

Such a unique and delicious menu and the art is amazing!

Matt Grove

Great brunch. Best grits I've ever had.

Eddie Hurt

Best food in town. If your looking for the best place to eat in Lafayette this is it. Everything is good and service is great

Rita Mancia

Food ans service was good but no AC

Genaro Salinas

Awesome service from Zach and best food ever! Had the corn and crab bisque, it was perfect. Most corn and anything soups or bisque’s we find are too pepper seasoned, this was perfect! Had shrimp po-boy, also nailed it! Bread is warm soft and remoulade sauce was best compliment to dressed Po-boy. Third in party had pork tenderloin. It was great. You could cut it like butter. Seasoned perfect. Dessert was peach cobbler with brown butter ice cream, wow so good. We live in Baton Rouge, and will definitely be back. Loved it!

Aaron T

The Crawfish enchiladas were a little underwhelming. However the blue crab linguini and fried oysters were awesome and delicious.

Te Anne

Food was good. Very big portion for the linguini.

Romeo Garcia

Food i did get was good n tasty, however they were out of 4 of 10 appetizer items i wanted order. Also crawfish enchiladas were very good just not quite enough...2 enchiladas.!?!?!?!? Most places i see that has them come 3-5 per order. I've eaten here before and although it was still good it wasn't the same. The lack of appetizers annoyed me. Service was good though

Antoinette de Alteriis

Delicious, great service, beautiful art!

Cindy Madden

The corn and crab bisque was barely warm, the cucumber salad barely cool. No bread. The waiter was great.

Jason Stafford

Food was just okay. Atmosphere was original and I liked the Blue Dog theme. The staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs. The building had a musty smell and wasn't the cleanest. There is a lot of potential at this restaurant with proper management. I hope to hear of improvements so I can try it again.

Elizabeth Bernard Higgs

I hope they can get going again but the food served to me on my last visit was not good. Hardly any crabmeat in the bisque and the Crawfish enchiladas, which are nowhere near as good as they used to be were accompanied by purple hull peas that were so over salted that they were inedible.

Bree Becnel

Great food and atmosphere. My husband and I came to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary. The staff was great and helpful. I got the smoked pecan catfish and it was amazing. My husband ordered the half and half with fried shrimp soft shell crab and crawfish ettufee. We also shared the bread pudding with caramel pecan sauce.

Kim Howard

Ordered the deviled eggs for starters. Our son had the hamburger which he devoured, our daughter had the pepper jelly glazed pork tenderloin and it was flavorful, tender and juicy. My friend had the Breaux Bridge catfish which looked and tasted amazing, actually everything looked amazing on a side note. I had the 1/2 and 1/2 which was really good as well.

Jacob Bergeron

Waitress was courteous. Food was good besides etoufeé not tasting like much. Owner (I assume) asked if we enjoyed our stay and thanked us for coming. I felt as if I was in a fancy movie! 8/10 would recommend again.

James Talbot

Fabulous place...the food was great, the service excellent and the atmosphere very pleasant. The owner came by and told us great stories about George Rodrigue, and he was very personable. I highly recommend this place.

Christine J

I drive by here for work almost every day and have never stopped. Today we stopped and it was amazing! From the catfish appetizer though the main course and bread pudding....outstanding!!! Thank you Blue Dog! Great piano player here tonight as well!

Charrid Stone

Great service and food! The ambiance is just right and the art makes you feel you’re in the thick of Louisiana. If you’re passing thru, take the detour off the highway, you won’t regret it.

Jacob Morris

Nice staff, very welcoming. They stop serving entrees if they are ordered after 2:00 pm due to happy hour. Amazing seafood and meats, but few vegetarian options.

Nicole Scott

The food was delicious with creative display but we thought it was a little pricey compared to the value of food. The service was also slow for an early dining. The restaurant was clean with a lot of famous “blue dog” paintings on the wall. We had “smothered white meat chicken” and “half and half soft shell crab, crawfish étouffée with fried shrimp” as shown on the upload pictures.

Peyton Burnley

Look, i get it. Nuggets are good & you don’t want everyone to have them, HOWEVER; i just so happen to LOVE nuggets. I’m wondering why y’all wanna short me on my nuggets. Not only can i not get them, but you have to be 6?????? 6 1/2??? I’m a grown adult, however; i want nuggets & when i want nuggets, you better give me them nuggets. However, service is quick which is why i gave them one star. Thanks for your time, changes the rules on the nuggets.

polaris kyo

Phenomenal eats!! Excellent service. This art-filled restaurant should be on everyone's list!!

Jane Myers

When we saw all the changes in the menu, personnel and other things, we thought it would be a death sentence of The Blue Dog! But so far it has been improving the menu and the personnel and the regulars are quite pleased so far. My family had a very nice meal last week. So things are looking up for the Blue Dog!

Catherine Bishop

Excellent food, excellent service, live music was great. Found the prices a bit much ($6 for a side of sweet potatos), but overall great place.

Izzy Bernstein

I dont know the first name if the waitress, her last name is Spencer, she was fantastic. Do reccomend!!

Melody Lovello

Not usually the ambience that I lean toward (a little on the dark side), but I would recommend it to everyone and we will be back the next time we’re passing through: the food was exceptional and the service was outstanding! I was so bummed I got full; I wanted to keep eating!!

Betty Gleason

Food and service was excellent. Blueberry cobbler paired with brown butter ice cream was the best I ever had.

Evelyn Gray

I was here recently with my boyfriend and I loved it. Its awesome with good food and excellent service. Love their seafood. It also has a nice ambiance and is well priced. Will definitely be back. Thanks!

rl dwg

Fantastic improvements in the last 6 months! Staff is excellent, professional, sharp...Duck cooked perfectly, appetizers must try are cracklin, won tons, and catfish bites. Try to get table near stage especially if Marty Christian is playing (Blues) as it is not overpowering and extremely comfortable. A+ Blue Dog!

Don Kennon

Have had bunches of fun in this establishment over the years. Good bar, wonderful food, friendly staff. Fun Mother's Day Brunch.

Amy Corbin

Our meals were excellent and the service was great!! I had shrimp and grits and my husband had grilled black drum. Both were very well prepared. There was a musician performing in the bar area and he was very good. We might go back tomorrow.

Kevin Kindt

Great food. Fast, bit to fast, service. My wife was still on her meal and they came to take the plates away.

Richard Frazier

Unfortunately we stopped while passing through Lafeyette between 2 - 5 and they don't serve a full menu, but the appetizers and sides were great. We had the cornmeal oysters, pork fat fried catfish, and seafood stuffed wontons.

Gavin Reed

Great food, great service and ambience.

oluwabukola akinyemi

Lovely atmosphere and good food

HAS H

The atmosphere is nice, the service is very good, food was ok, we ordered the Half and Half , the etouffee was not that good , the amount was not that much for that price. The ice cream was very buttery and heavy. the cobbler was very tasty.

Lucia James

We were so pleased with our visit to the Blue Dog Cafe. We were celebrating a birthday and from the friendly young host seating us, to the very adept and courteous waiter Zach, to the amazing musicians and finally outstanding food we couldn’t have had a better experience! We started with bottomless mimosas, deviled eggs, and bacon pecan sticky buns. Then we enjoyed Cajun Benedict (I had creamy grits rather than breakfast potatoes), Braised Short Rib Hash, and smothered pork chimichanga. The food was delicious and probably the best since we have been in Louisiana. If you have a Sunday open, plan to go to the Blue Dog for their breakfast and blues!

Erica Thomas

Everything was very tasty but I found the beers to be overpriced. $10.50 for a pint?!

Joshua Bernard

Wow Food and Service Top shelf! Thanks Blue Dog!

Nick Gibbs

Great food and service.

Phillip Stockwell

Excellent food and interesting decor

Amy Beehler

Great food & great service!! Gumbo was amazing and so were the beniets!

Wesley DeVoss

This place was delicious! I am only giving it 4 stars because they were out of some items that I had asked for, the peel and eat shrimp and the bread pudding. My wife and I went while we were visiting Lafayette, I ordered the Blackened Redfish, which was AMAZING! My wife ordered the Half & Half which was good as well, I liked my dish better. The wait staff was great as well, our waiter gave us great insight as to why the "Blue Dog" and what to do in the area. This was a great visit for my wife and I as we meet here often since I am in the Navy and currently stationed away from her. Thank you Blue Dog Cafe for a great date night!

Corey Taylor

Place wasn't to busy but still had constant traffic. There was light music playing in background but It wasn't very loud and you we still able to hold a conversation at the table. Appetizer deviled eggs we good but not spectacular. Appetizer fried oysters were not seasoned at all. They would probably be better off pulling the oysters from the menu. Still giving 3 stars beacause the sevice was good and the blackened catfish breaux bridge was excellent. The catfish, the slaw and tomato jam were perfectly paired and prepared.

Nathan Kirby

Sticky buns are a must if you like sweets. The French toast was great as well. Service was fast and attentive. Great place. Great food. Great options

Lee Koitka

Loved the experience of dining here - don't muss it!

Jon Flowers

Great menu. Amazing Sunday brunch with unlimited mimosas.

Dave Stubbs

What an amazing place to visit and have a fantastic meal. This place was recommended by our host Ravi within 10 minutes of arriving at Lafyette. The atmosphere was cool and the staff were great. The 3 piece band playing cajun music was amazing. An intimate place for a romantic meal. The food was totally tasty and wonderful. Blue Dog pictures adorn the walls of this unique restaurant. I would recommend visiting here. Thank you

Kim Dao

The service was great and the food was good. It was just too salty for my test. We had the 10oz tenderloin steak and the burger.

MyLove Daily

We stop for brunch every time we are in town. The food is fantastic. The atmosphere is great. I love looking at all of the blue dog paintings. Hopefully, one day I can afford one. Be aware, the brunch buffet is pricey. About $27 per person, but the food is worth it! We will definitely be back every chance we get.

Rachel Arrington

Visiting from Birmingham, loved the food and atmosphere. Highly recommend the sirloin and half chicken, both were savory and flavorful!

Jody Hughes

Didn't care for it. Was hoping for some none seafood. My family wanted seafood but I don't care for it.

Karen Krumm

My husband asked to try a local beer and it turned out to be $10.50 for one glass. The food was good but overall I felt overpriced.

Don Kilbourn

Long time Blue Dog fan and once a frequent visitor but I’ve been unable to stop in for a while. This was often my “must go” venue when in town and often the place I took friends, colleagues and clients for dinner. Although the service was very good, this visit was very disappointing. The menu drastically changed from a great variety of fine Cajun fare including excellent entrees, sides, soups, salads and awesome desserts to a short “lunch-like” menu with no deserts....very limited. On top of that, my order, the pork tenderloin with garnish and sauces that I picked was nothing like it used to be. It was more like a couple of small pan-fried boneless pork chops, it very dry and had no garnish or sauce and the presentation was lackluster...it went from excellent to mediocre. what once was a very cool venue with gourmet dishes is now off my list. Sad to see such a change but I hope they change and thrive but with all the fine dining in the area and worry it won’t last. The Blue Dog atmosphere alone won’t carry it in my opinion. I looked into it after and saw it filed for bankruptcy about a year ago so this is how they decided to deal with it, my guess. I’ll check into it next time via local colleagues before I decide to try again.

Celeste Beasley

We ordered the half and half and the crawfish etoufee was horrible! How can you screw up such a simple dish? Will not be going back!

Karen Schneider

The food was excellent and the staff was very friendly!

Zachary Burke

Had dinner here tonight for the first time, and let me tell you that cornbread appetizer is phenomenal. I probably could have kept ordering more till I was full and been happy. It was burger night so we tried a couple of the special burgers on the list. They were good though I can’t remember the names of them, also the dirty rice was some of the best I’ve had in a long time. Definitely going to eat here more often.

Godard Lindsay

My coworker and I stopped in for an early dinner before an event. The restaurant was fairly empty at the time we went. We both had dirty martinis to start. They were fine, but they didn't seem too heavy on the alcohol and they were pricey. I had the blackened catfish entree which came with slaw. I enjoyed my meal, the catfish was cooked well. We split the deviled eggs appetizer which were good, though the eggs were very small.

Michael Fields

Food is always great Cajun style and service excellent. The art is the draw for me. I do not bring my wife only work functions as almost exclusively seafood and she is very allergic even to crawfish.

Marion Gurney

I like this place so much that if I can't get there at lunch I have them deliver uber eats to my hotel room at night. The most incredible crab and corn bisque. The bourbon bread pudding is to die for. Anything you get here is incredible. Plus the art oh my God the art.

Daniel Anderson

The inside looks better than the outside. The service was excellent. We had the burger, half a roasted chicken and the fried shrimp poboy. All were great. We would recommend going.

Donnie Easter

Good . All friendly too.

Lucy Hurdle

Went for dinner on Friday night. Used to enjoy visiting Blue Dog, I remember going when they had a large menu with a lot of variety. Then I went when they were just phasing in the new menu, the waitress said they were completely getting rid of the freezer. They were in an adjustment period at that time, but even still, it’s not okay for them to just be out of everything. But now on to my most recent visit last night. They were out of the half roasted chicken; probably one of their best menu items. I was really excited to order their cast iron corn bread; I remember it being absolutely delicious! What we got was a surprise. It was a dark color, and the whole thing was soggy, the bottoms and sides weren’t crispy at all, and it had the consistency of cake. When we asked about it, the waitress said it was “blue corn.” It was very disappointing. When we got our entrees, I got the pork tenderloin with a side of collard greens and my date got the sirloin. The pork tenderloin was pink in the middle to the point where I wasn’t comfortable eating it, and on top of that, the entire dish was cold. The corn was cold and had a strange flavor. It was pretty disgusting all together. The collard greens were dry and unappetizing. It’s so gimmicky to charge 6 dollars for a side and give a huge portion, rather than charge 4 and serve a normal portion for a side. That way people could actually try a couple. No one wants a bucket of collards. My date got the sirloin; it was cooked perfectly to temperature. It was seared very well and had a good flavor. However, it was cold, along with his mashed potatoes. The green beans were extremely garlicky. We were very disappointed in our dinner and in the lack of menu options. With a limited menu like that, the point is that you absolutely nail the things you do have. This is just not the case. We won’t be coming back.

Prince St.James

Visiting from Wisconsin. This is our first time to this establishment and the first impression was excellent. Our waiter Zack was professional and knowledgeable of the menu. The atmosphere was great and the food was excellente . I highly recommend this establishment for your Cajun experience. Plus I hear try have live bands from Thursday to Saturday evening. We plan to visit again.

Bill Tosney

Fantastic indoor dining with great local food. The daily specials are a sure bet. They ususally have live music in the evening.

Will Johnson

Absolutely terrific food and service. Entire wait staff was so friendly, and out waitress was incredibly nice. Food was delicious and prices were fair. I live in Texas, and this is somewhere I ALWAYS make a plan to eat when I visit LA.

Bert King

Were out of several things on the menu. Food was good. Service was horrible. Doesn't seem good as it once was.

Nikki Gautreaux

Great food and great atmosphere!!

Antoinette Joseph

We visited during lunch just for a simple dessert, (peach cobbler). The cobbler was cold in the middle, the milk was warm, and the scoop of ice cream was lumpy, freezer burnt, looked and taste like puke! I will never go back to this place for something they would actually have to cook.

Frank

They've changed their menu for the worse, but the food is still very good. They had decent live music while we were there and the service wasn't great but good.

J Pingel

The food was good, but the restaurant was so crowded it felt hard to get to any of the buffet lines. Ordered an OJ for my three year old, they brought him a mimosa in a cup with a lid. Thankfully my husband tried it before giving it to our son. I would have preferred that the staff felt bad about this rather than laughing it off (the waitress said, laughing, "did he make a super funny face when he tried it??"), but no harm no (major) foul so ok. But definitely try your kid's drink before passing it over!

Emily Sarich

We stopped here for lunch on a road trip, and I fell in love. Blue Dog Cafe has incredible food (the brunch menu is delicious upscale Cajun comfort food- try the chimichangas!), lovely decor, and the friendliest staff this side of the Mississippi. Thank you for a great pit stop!

LuAnn Wood

Visited more than a few times between 2005-2008. Still great! Everyone in my party lived the meal! Love the artwork, too! Who doesn't love a Blue Dog?

Elaine Starky

Fine dining surrounded by the famous Blue Dog

Interesting art, nice venue... Went for dessert - beignets and buttermilk pie. Didn't care much for the buttermilk pie, but beignets were nicely warmed and tasty!

Good food, but I am sad to see the Honey Glazed Duck Breast go.

We came for the crab dinner we know and love...to find that they now have a new chef and new menu...and not for the better. Host staff was slow to seat us, floors were stickier than the basement of a frat house, bathrooms were disgusting, the coleslaw was terrible, and they now charge $1/roll of bread. To top it all off, even their water tasted weird. Blue crab spaghetti was very buttery, but delicious, and had a lot of crab, but it was clear all our food was pre-cooked. It arrived within five minutes of us ordering. This used to be a favorite but we are unlikely to return. Way too pricey for the quality of food and environment. Huge bummer.

We've had dinner here in the past and really enjoyed it. Brunch was just okay. Our server never offered to refill our drinks and we had to ask for the check. The chicken and waffles were pretty much flavorless and there were two thin small pieces of chicken, but a mound of butter. Maybe it was what we ordered, but we weren't impressed by brunch.

Tasty seasonal menu items with a great bar staff eager to serve classic cocktails! Weekly live jazz band still with a quiet evening atmosphere!

Good lunch.

No Cajun food, no etoufee, gumbo, jambalaya. No Blue Dog souvenirs. Ordered bread, got small skillet of dark cornbread. Very disappointing! Does it have a new owner?

I miss the "old" Blue Dog. Their "revised" menu is not appetizing at all. The waiting staff appears to be on edge a bit; whereas, the former Blue Dog environment was always super friendly with great vibes. I used to think that this restaurant HAD TO BE PARTNERED WITH UL and their hospitality program because "back in the day," the hospitality was no. 1 and the folks were always so pleasant. I don't know why this restaurant decided to make these drastic changes, but unfortunately I will not be returning to this restaurant with the new renditions. As far as the taste and quality of the food: nothing special at all. The gumbo was too salty. The bisque seemed to lack authentic ingredients. I was very disappointed. Thank God they kept the crayons and drawing paper.

Great service for a party of 18 on graduation night. Food was fantastic. Highly recommend

Wonderful food! Love to leave my own blue dog drawing on the table when I leave!

John Lukasko

Excellent food. Loved it. Make sure you try something sweet with your meal. Sticky buns were great.

Used to be my favorite restaurant to entertain customers. Service was excellent but since menu changed, not as good. It's a shame!

My friend and I were visiting a church in Lafayette, and I asked a few members about their recommendations for good dining places. Blue Dog Cafe quickly became the common response. We were told the food would be excellent, and their comments were not exaggerations. We walked in to a small but lovely cafe filled with the famous paintings of George Rodrigue, striking in appearance and full of personality. The melodic sounds of Julie, the featured artist, floated around the cafe like bubbles. Her range of covers from Norah Jones to Etta James were both impressive and complementary to the cool, eclectic atmosphere. Our friendly, engaging server Zach provided us with superior customer service, tidbits about the restaurant's history and exuded so much charm and magnetism I was almost distracted from how delicious the food was. Almost. I ordered the beignets and my friend inhaled half of them. I was more delighted with the sugar cane butter than the beignet only because I was expecting a little sweeter dough. However, this was my first time eating beignets and it will not be my last. I ordered the Croque Madame for my entree after I noticed how delectable a nearby patron's dish looked. Delicious. Heavenly. Eggs so perfectly plated and cooked it almost felt wrong to eat them instead of just admiring them. My friend ordered the crawfish and enchiladas with a side of gumbo. He didn't let it stay unattended for longer than 5 minutes. The portions are generous and the food isn't necessarily intended for the health-conscious. It is sweet and savory, rich and satisfying. And it is worth every dime you spend as a meal for two with bevarages may range between $40-$50+. But it's great food in an even greater atmosphere. So go and spoil yourself. And try not to get too distracted by that Zach. He is a whole meal by himself. But that's another story.

Worth it. Good food and atmosphere.

Fine Cajun dining. Food was too salty, but beyond that the preparation was excellent. The fish was perfectly cooked. Decent atmosphere, good location for visitors staying in Lafayette's few nice hotels on pinhook. Definitely recommended for visitors to the city and a favorite for locals as well.

It is not the place it use to be in both service and menu. You now must make reservations for either 10:30 or 12:30. Since the 10:30 slot was booked up we had to reserve a spot for 12:30. The buffet steam table had several of the server pans empty. The food in the majority of the remaing servers was cold. Seems to me if you know you have reservations coming in at 12:30 your buffet should be hot and ready to go. The food was not the quality it was on my former visits. The bread pudding had a burnt crust on the bottom. The chocolate pie tasted like uncooked flour. Placement of the food items made no sense. The gumbo and corn chowder were located on the dessert table. If you are looking for the buffet Blue Dog Cafe use to offer, you will not find it here. I will not be returning to Blue Dog Cafe in Lafayette LA

Good food but a little pricey for the portion.

Went for Sunday brunch but had to leave because the room got EXTREMELY SMOKEY. We sat in the back room where the staff was preparing the food for the buffet.

Most popular in Lafayette. Closing down and reopening of this restaurant is news in local channels. Visited soon after reopening. Very nice fine dining experience.

This place was all hype. paid a small fortune for a tiny bowl of gumbo. It was not very tasty will never go back or recommend

Corinna Lee

Nice atmosphere with a little higher-priced menu (~$20 per entree). Waiter was very nice although he did forget to put in an order and we ended up having the appetizer in the middle of the main course. Great recommendation of the pompano fish dish, really enjoyed it! Overall nice dinner, worth the price if you pick the dish that fits your taste.

In town for business meetings and we just stopped by this place at the recommendation of our local business partner. The decor is unique, the food is awesome and the service screams perfection. They had run out of fish due to shipping/delivery issues. Now that tells you here, fresh is King. I had the BBQ Shrimp and grits. Delicious!

Mary Fisher

A little small but great quality of food and drinks

Service, nice wines, great fish dish and old dear friends to share the experience of being in each other's company. My friend and customer of 30 years drove up from New Orleans and we reflected on good careers and friendships.

The wait safe is awesome! But man...I tried the Half and Half(etouffee and fried crab). It was terrible! The rice and sauce tasted watery. My friend tried it and said it just tasted like Tabasco sause...super lame. The crab was just nasty. I love crab, man I can't believe it was so bland. I loved the art. And again the waitress was really nice and super accommodating. I also thought the beer was terrible. The deviled eggs were ok, but really...how much can you mess up deviled eggs?
