Stopped by while we were in town visiting family. We toured the Makers Mark Distillery and wanted to get some hearty food to eat before heading home. Wow!! Glad we did!! Large portions, great taste and easy parking. Will definitely stop again while in town.

I’m dissappointed to say I won’t be eating here again. Very lousy service in addition to finding a HAIR in my meal. Their response was telling when received a very reluctant and half hearted apology. When my friend and I received the check they didn’t even comp the meal. We had to ask for the manager and they never showed up. The server said the best they could do was 50 percent off of the burger. Pretty disgusting.

I ordered a ribeye was absolutely the worst steak I have ever had in my life. $30 for 99% of the steak being fat I literally got 1 piece of meat out of the whole steak. This is ridiculous cheap cheap steaks and they should be ashamed to even sell steak like this. Second time I’ve ate here wasn’t too impressed the first time this time completely done it for me. Service was A1 but the food was complete trash

After all the great reviews on google i had to try this place but was very dissapointed .Food was very bland needed more seasoning on everything I had the chicken fried steak mac and cheese and mashed potatoes....Texas road house is down the street ,if in town again I'll just go there.Was not bad place to eat atmosphere was great waitresses and employees were all very kind.

Cannot wait to come back! Our server was just the sweetest, he even helped us order when we couldn't decide on what to order and was definitely on top of making sure we had everything. When we went to leave, someone even dropped everything and rushed to the door to hold it for us. Food is so good too. Next time we are in Lex we will return

Winchell's is too loud. My ears are literally ringing. The food is fine. There are not many options for vegetarians because they use a lot of bacon grease, but what I can eat is always good.

Lots of TVs with sports, but the main thing here is good food and friendly service. Breakfast is especially winning, with simple yet well-made dishes at very fair prices. It's a neighborhood favorite and worth finding in the Southland area if you're visiting Lexington.

The breakfast sampler here is usually on point but today I felt like I was served a plate from a free hotel breakfast.. Bacon felt like rubber, biscuits were hard as a moon rock & the sweet tea tasted full of artificial sweetener. I would work on consistency with the meals, and reach the waiters not to push alcohol on people dining in at 9:30 AM.

Great experience all the way around. Great service, from lots of staff it's a team effort similar to what you get from a five star formal dining restaurant. Environment was great we chose this place because we had a large party that wanted to watch the Ut game. Plenty of TVs for that and eventhough they were quite busy they were able to accommodate us. I had the fried chicken which was great. We all got something different though and everyone was very pleased.

We had a party of six (2 adults 4 kids) and you would have thought it was the most complicated thing. I told them we could separate if needed as I saw numerous tables/booths across from each other. So what did they do, seat at two different places not across from each other. Then five minutes later seat someone across from us after they told me it wasn't available. Owners please don't put the most unexperienced, most immature people as the hostess. They crumble under pressure. Put someone who has great decision making skills, someone who can scan the room quickly and keep the flow of the front of the house moving.

The place was very busy and the one bartender kept up with everything... from the 20+ customers at the bar, the servers drink orders, bar and carry out food orders, and alignng the 12+/- tv's with Monday Night football and baseball playoffs... this place is amazing!!! Very courteous staff, excellent food and drinks! This ambience continued all night.

We were looking for a simple, "local favorite" place for dinner and we hit the jackpot with Winchell's. This is about as local as you could ask for- families and neighbors dining side by side- and our service was excellent despite a really busy night. It's a small place, so it gets a little loud, but the food and friendliness make up for it. As busy as they were, our waitress, who was also tending the bar, was attentive and smiling the whole time; never appeared flustered or rushed in any way. And the owner even stopped by the table to be sure we were satisfied. Winchell's was a terrific experience and we will definitely be back- its very easy to see why the community supports them.

I have sort of a mixed review. Some at our table enjoyed their food, others so so. My cheese steak was ok, but the meat was not the freshest or rendered. Gravy, cornbread, and grits all very good. Good burgers. I would like to have tried the desserts. Great service. I liked the old sports bar atmosphere.

Winchells is hands down my favorite restaurant in Lexington. Been coming here for about 10 years and I'll be coming here for another 10, I hope, so I'm surprised that this is the first review I've given them. The food is amazing and I'm talking breakfast with the family, wings and a beer during the game or just dinner with a friend. The staff is also what makes this place special because they always treat you with respect and each has their own unique quality. I can honestly say they have the best staff of any restaurant I've ever been to.

Truly a great little place. The Reuben sandwich was good, the white bean soup is excellent as were the fried mushroom appetizer. The mushrooms are the real deal- hand breaded fresh not frozen. Hot Brown is really good also. A great place to go for local flavors but also has some upscale items also. Definitely worth checking out!

The portion size I received was decent but the fact my shrimp was overcooked, greasy and over grits which were diluted because of all the grease made it very hard to eat. Not including the can of French onions they through on top just made it disgusting honestly. Like who eats that much French onions? But the reason I'm so critical on this review was the price of the food. For what I paid I should have had a really good meal. But instead I received what was something I would feed to pigs. Pure slop. The desert was good though. So if you go here just beware that you will spend allot for really bad food honestly. It's all just slop and full of grease, very bland at that.

I have been a Winchell's fan since 1992. As good as it was then, with the new owners/chefs it is even better. It is difficult to choose an entree or a sandwich. By the way, their breakfast is also excellent. I do like for lunch or dinner the trout dish as well as the fried chicken. Their burgers are also good so check them out. My most recent visit I tried one of several specials, roasted chicken served with kale and double stuffed potato. Talk about delicious. A half of a chicken, done perfectly. It was served with three sauces - a Carolina mustard sauce, an Owensboro inspired sauce ( think Moonlite barbecue) and their own red sauce. I must have brought home half of the meal. Kale perfect, as well as the potato. If you haven't tried, give it a go. Don't be put off by the ambiance. This definitely is a go to restaurant. This is a restaurant driven by two CIA chefs who had exposure to fine dining. I could put a blindfold on and move my finger anywhere on their menu and have a super meal. Don't forget their daily specials. Their drinks are also stout. It is and it isn't a sports bar. Enjoy!

Finally had the Kentucky Brown and it was damn good. It is like meat lasagna. Check that it is better than lasagna. It has sliced turkey, country ham, some kinda cheese sauce that is baked and finished with bacon and tomato on top. Trust me this is delicious.

Original Zomato Review 7/12/15 - Dropped by for lunch, Gourmet Burger, Homemade Chips, Jalapeno Cheese Grits, and Sweet Iced Tea. The burger was good--tasted the grill flavor (similar to a Burger King flame broiling), chips were okay and the Jalapeno Cheese Grits were awesome. I would definitely enjoy the grits for breakfast. I rated only a 3 because Winchell's is nothing out of the ordinary, just basic fare and not stepped up any.

Also we got seated directly next to a tarp dividing the eating area and construction zone, despite there being a plethora of available tables elsewhere. Men were literally jackhammering through concrete directly next to our table and we had to move. Outrageous. I've never had anything like this happen in my life.
