We went as a large group of I believe 16 people for our first ever visit. The staff were absolutely fantastic and friendly. The food, Wow!!! The adults almost all ordered something different and everyone loved what they ordered and we were all drawn to have others taste our selections. We will most definitely be back!!!!
Quaint, great family atmosphere. Food was delicious.
Great atmosphere very friendly people and great home cooked food
Cute place! Great food! Super friendly staff! You feel welcome right when you walk in the door.. it's just a very "homey " comfortable atmosphere. Love all the cute antique stores .We can't wait to go back.
Good place to eat. Friendly staff. Very over priced though.
Loved the food Hosts was Greatq Now talk doctor if you talk to it you press that the thing and you talk to it it'll print your techs out OK and you don't have to sit there and do hope that well here
I love Glendale and it's quaint little shops. The whistle stop restaurant has a laid back, family oriented atmosphere. The food is fantastic if you are in the market for a home cooked meal. It offers a good variety of foods as well as a good price. The dessert pies are excellent but you better order it with your meal as they run out of choices quickly. Don't plan on having a late dinner as they close at 9 pm eastern. No reservations required.
Awesome had the special, chicken and dumplings soo good
You'll have to experience this for yourself...Awesome!!
Great down home food. Excellent service. And a great atmosphere
I like pie. If you desire a sweet & savory cherry pie. Visit the Whistle Stop.
Bad management, the staff were gossiping about other employees, and some of the staff are very mistreated from what I can tell. The longevity rate for incoming workers is about a week because of the dysfunction of this restaurant. The quality of the food is good, but the whole crew (including the owner) needs training on true hospitality, cooperation, proper management, and how to treat people.
Quaint place with good food.
Feels just like eating at my family get together in Southeastern KY. They make you feel like family here! Food is amazing and make sure to save room for their Peanut Butter pie! I'm so full but I can't wait to get to these leftovers later tonight
Love this place. Unique atmosphere and love walking around Downtown Glendale after we eat.
The food is great. It's always busy there but the service was good.
The Whistle Stop is one of the most well known local establishments, just outside of Elizabethtown, in the heart of Glendale. Nestled inside a building constructed in the 1800's, with a down home interior, and dark wooden booths; you'll find some of the best cuisine around. From their famous meatloaf, topped with sweet tomatoes; to their fresh baked bread, and strawberry jam; you will be in for a very special treat, that even the most novice of foodies would rave about. Be sure to pay them a visit!
Great food, quaint little restaurant, friendly staff. The pot roast is exceptional!
Good home style food and great pies.
Great staff, and the food is really good!
Really good home made food
Great food. Very busy. Only issue is that they don't take reservations and we had a large party.
Great place to eat. Service is awesome.
You have got to stop here even if you have to divert for a few miles. A great old town street especially for the antiquer. The food is great and if you wait long enough you can wave at the conductor as they travel by.
Absolutely awful. Came for Mother's Day and walked in to the owners complaining about how busy they were. Once seated we were told they were out of bread and rolls but could bring us some cornbread. They brought us two small circles of cornbread for a table of 6. That was fine, but when we get the bill there's a $3 charge for cornbread. Seriously?? The food to follow was horrendous. I mean literally almost inedible. Meatloaf was disgusting. Instant Mac n' Cheese. Soured white gravy. A horrible experience with no self awareness from the staff/owners.
Our Waiter, Zach, did a great job. He was very polite and friendly. The food was delicious!! I'll definitely return.
Staff was friendly and environment was nice but if you have a small group they charge 18% tax for large parties. We had 4 adults and 3 toddlers.
Great comfort food.. especially the bean soup.. we have been a few times and they stay busy. it's worth the trip I would just call before you make the trip just in case.
Great food and service. The restaurant has a wonderful decor.
We love the homestyle cooking and the friendly service. Hate we aren't in the area anymore.
Very very good food. Service is always good.
Great home cooking! Great service !
Loved my visit there. Food was great
Party of 13 on a Thursday. 11 a.m. called ahead. Food was okay. Fried green tomatoes were good. Chocolate meringue pie was good. Train went by while we ate, neat experience. An experience type place.
Definitely a must visit place well worth the drive out of the way for my trip. Fried green tomatoes to die for. Boysenberry cobbler - OMG. Everything tasted amazing. Cooked to order- not made in advance and heated up. Perfect server who turned out to be theGM training other servers that day lucky me - - felt like she was my best friend after I left very accommodating. I could’ve stayed all day. I want to go back and try everything. The building is quaint and was fun to take a look around. Cute shops on the same block. Good to spend an afternoon here. Overall an outstanding experience.
Awesome food with a quaint feel, the Whistlestop Cafe was outstanding. Service was fast-paced, but I didn't feel rushed. The Kentucky Hot Brown was delicious, and the no-sugar-added Peach Cobbler was really tasty. Also, the fried green tomatoes stood up to any home-made fried green tomatoes I've ever had. ***** of *****
Great staff, great food! Every visit has been excellent.
Great food and service.
Wish I could give this 2.5 stars. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants, but since the Sego family sold it years ago, the food quality has never been consistent and the quality of the servers continues to go down. Every time we go, we are reminded why it has been so long since our last visit. Appetizer servings are small and overpriced. Menu prices have gone up and the food quality and setting no longer justify the cost. On our visit Friday, the couple that owns it were at the door both as we entered and left. We weren't greeted/welcomed when entering, just asked how many. When we left, we weren't thanked or asked to come back. We couldn't believe there was no wait on a Friday night when we got there, but understood when we left.
This place is like Cracker Barrel × 10 ....even better than, I've been many times and plan on going back many more ...can't say enough good things about it ....food is delicious!!!!!
Good food. Wonderful atmosphere. Loved the country green beans and the mashed potatoes and gravy. Could have made a meal out of just that!
The second time we tried to go it was closed due to septic issues. Great place, may need some renovations on their facility. But gmgreat food.
Good food and service.
Amazing place. Easy to get to and find. Had the pot roast and it was probably the best I've ever had (sorry mom). Green beans as a side were delish. Ordered the fried cornbread and it was dry...so probably not again. Strawberry shortcake was basic but still very delicious. Owner was there and was very friendly and talked with us like we were friends. The dining area was very cozy and rustic feeling. I will most certainly be back for the great charm, service, and stick to your bones homestyle food.
Charming little railside spot with excellent southern foods. The fried greens are delicious, and the sugar cream pie is out of this world. Be prepared to wait a little while for your order, though. Plenty of good antique shops surrounding the restaurant, too!
Great food and fun area to visit
Family joke.We have a Emberton table Birthdays are held there. We love The Whistle Stop. Like family.
Every time we are in Glendale, we make sure to eat here. Love the bean soup and fried cornbread. Consistently good! Their desserts are awesome, too My personal favorite is the blackberry cobbler. It has railroad themed decorations, old photos, calendars, etc on the walls, and a small gift shop. The only drawback is sometimes there is a wait to be seated, and a very long line to the ladies room.
Food was good, service was great but I thought it was overpriced. The atmosphere was quant.
Great place to eat! Great servers!
The Kentucky Hot Brown was awesome
Very unique..food was great..service was really good also
Nice, old building nestled in a quaint quiet little town. The service was excellent and the food was great. We had the fried chicken and Chicken and Dumplings. I would highly suggest this little hidden secret.
Everything is home cooked and FANTASTIC!
Great place! Friendly atmosphere!
Such a gem, nestled right off the train tracks in Glendale, KY. Each dish is more delicious than the last, but if I had to choose, the cast iron praying chop would be the best. Don't skip out on the fried green tomatoes either. From the rustic ambiance and quaint setting, to the superb quaint and portion of food, everything just feels right about a night or lunch out at Whistle Stop.
The Country Ham and service were both great!
A very cute place. The food was really good. Great milkshakes. Lots of interesting history and I would have liked to stay and look around.
What an amazing meatloaf and hot brown lunch!
Always great home cooked food and good service.
The food here is amazing. My husband said his meatloaf was the best meatloaf that he'd had in his whole life, and I had the roast beef which was also amazing. We keep meaning to go back soon, I enjoyed looking around the shop attached to it and our service was great.
GREAT, food and service! Will be back, again and again. Always a pleasure to be there.
Service was a little slow but the food and quaintness made up for it. Well worth a re-visit.
Usually delicious. Pretty good but I didn't care for the fried fish. I should have stuck with the pot roast or fried chicken. The pie, coconut cream, was sooo good!! The Whistle Stop is very quaint and located in Glendale but be prepared for a tight squeeze in the restroom.
The food was excellent. The hospitality was on point. For this to be a small town, it was great.
Nice cozy atmosphere. Great southern hospitality and food! Staff is friendly and courteous. I forgot my wallet and they held it for me till was able retrieve it. Nice for date night.
This is a must stop for me everytime I am home. The food is always delicious and the service outstanding! Just don't go too late you might miss out on their famous pies!
Got there a little later than we planned, they were really busy. Took a little bit of time to get our order taken. The food was great, but I recommend that you get there with plenty of time to enjoy the time there. And be warned if you get there late you might miss out on some pie choices. And also ask about the pie prices, I would not want to pay for a whole one.
I've heard how wonderful the food is here, especially the desserts. Billed as great Southern cooking......I will agree it is southern type food, but not southern recipes or cooking. The food wasn't bad, it was bland. Nothing special, not worth the price.
If you like country style home cooking, this is the place for you! Chicken tenders, mac n cheese, broccoli casserole, sweet potato fries and the bread with strawberry preserves ..... Yum yum yum!! Not to mention the whole town is filled with some fine southern men and women with perfect amount of sweetness and sass. Loved this whole day!
It's such a cute old fashion atmosphere, they did an awsome job converting the old train station into a restaurant. We were visiting from Ohio for Durby and we were told this was the place to try our first Hot Brown, was not disappointed, so delicious! I knew that kentuckians did up your sweet tea more, but my goodness lol! I'll have to make sure to ask for unsweetend next time
Staff was very friendly, meringue pie was very good!
Atmosphere & Food was great!
Loved the food, the service and the town.
My favorite little restaurant! The fried green tomatoes and Hot Brown are so delicious! The apple cider hot or cold is refreshing too. The staff is always friendly and ready to serve.
They have ridiculous holiday closing from some time in December to mid- February every year. So my last visit on a beautiful early February day. This one star is my review because they're still closed!
Amazing home cooked food.
Love this place! I had the pot roast & it was amazing! So much better than I can make at home. The hubby had the chicken livers special, and his only complaint was that there were to many! Can't wait to go back!
Friendly, quant, good food. We'd go back!
Good food, good service, but pricey
We stopped for dinner and were super happy. I had the fried chicken and my husband had the open face roastbeef. Both exceeded out expectations. The flavors were perfect and the chicken was crispy and moist. I can't wait to bring our family down to eat.
Delicious food and excellent service. Jessica was so wonderful and helpful in choosing our lunch items. She even brought me something to try to that I mentioned never having tasted not being from the South. I was so glad I did!
The staff was phenomenal. The fried chicken was the best I've ever had. It was my dad's birthday, and they treated him like a king! Great experience! We'll definitely be back!
Great historical restaurant with great flavorful food
Great home cooking and fast service.
Cute little place. Service was good. Food was surprisingly excellent
Great first visit. Good atmosphere.
Food and Service was Great. HAPPY 87th BIRTHDAY DADDY
Really quaint place and adorable little shopping area. The food is awesome!
If you want comfort food, then this is the place. Sitting right beside the railroad tracks, you are likely to hear a train roll by to add to the atmosphere. The food is delicious and it’s a favorite of everyone in the area. Don’t forget the Sugar Cream Pie! ❤️
Delicious food for a great price. Wonderful service and nice cozy atmosphere!!
This place always exceeds my expectations. Pot roast was so yummy. Fries were incredible. Had Zach, an amazing young man who helped us choose our dinner. Helped us with everything. We appreciate all of the team here. Thank you.
Hot fudge cake best desert on the earth.
Not being from the area I was looking forward to some good southern food. At first it was great. The fried green tomatoes was really tasty. Also the waitress was attentive & friendly. I ordered ham & it was really over cooked. I was fine with the rest of my meal I just did not want to eat the ham. They acted offended & then brought me the meatloaf which was good. But I was so full I couldn't eat another bite which seemed to make them agitated and it made me uncomfortable. At this point I just wanted to leave. Then I got the bill & they added the extra meal on there which I never really wanted in the first place.
Loved my country fried chicken!
Great food and great service.
Excellent food, great atmosphere, fantastic service.
Very good place to eat.
Good food. Quality service. Great shopping.
Great food and quaint place
Amazing does not even start. I have never in my 35 years had food that tastes this good. The food was fresh, hot and the most authentic southern food I have ever tasted. This is my new spot!
Absolutely Delicious! Great service!
The fried green tomatoes & the coconut cream pie. Today I tried something new that was delicious. & BlackBerry iced tea. It's all good.
Come here once, you will be back.
Food was okay, not great. The server was great and made the experience enjoyable.
It was very good will go back
First-rate restaurant and the scenery was great to. The pork chops or phenomenal.
I'll just say get there early, there will be a wait and it's worth it! The service is just as wonderful as the food! Good southern cooking at it's best!
Best restaurant food I think I have ever had. I got the fried catfish, broccoli casserole and mashed potaties with white gravy. Atmosphere is awesome as well.
Good food...little pricey but the portions are generous. Old fashioned decorations need a good dusting. Get dessert to go if you're too full.
Great food and service
Unfortunately, after we sat down we waited for our food for an hour. I ordered the special fried chicken which was tender and moist, but unfortunately also bland. If those small details are ok with you, you'll probably have a pleasant experience. On the upside, everyone was friendly and tried to be accommodating.
Family dinner in the Iron Horse, (holiday buffet). Made reservations for 12 people in August 2018, never got a contract to confirm number of people and I ended up calling first part of December to confirm reservations. Was told date and time was confirmed, never confirmed number of people yet when I went to pay for dinner ($25.00 a person) I was told i had to pay for 12 people even though there were only 10, plus I could not make a plate up to bring home to the person that couldn't attend due life changing circumstances. I was not allowed to take a plate home but yet I was still charged for 12 people even though only 10 people attended. Again, No one even confirmed number of people with me or had a signed contract for 12 people. So why couldn't i have two meals to go since i still had to pay over $50.00 for two non existent people. Waitress was great, food is always good, management is poor. Second time we had issues with Holiday dinner. Next year, we will go down the road to a more positive attitude
We had a great experience. Food & service was really good
Went on my anniversary, had never been. Was so excited. Cat fish was way to much portion wise, to much breading, didn't taste like catfish. Fried green tomatoes were hard and the over breading fell off. I make them at home everyone loves them. I would be ashamed to serve them, much less advertise them. Way over priced for the quality and content, especially since its supposed to be a small roadside cafe. Liked the atmosphere but that's all! I wont be back!
Amazing! We were traveling from Kentucky Down Under back home to Indianapolis. We wanted something that was not a chain restaurant. This is the type of place you would drive 2 hours to go eat at! Each staff member was so friendly and fun! The food is just amazing! My son ordered the meatloaf and each of us had to taste it! I have no idea how you make meatloaf taste "creamy" but theirs does! You will not be disappointed ! We also shared a piece of pie. These are the pies your grandma made, with love. It is less than 5 minutes off I-_65.
We came here for our family get together for Christmas....8 of us. Had to take the upstairs buffet since there were 8. Had to sign a contract for reservation. Each individual meal was $25.46 which could not be paid in separate checks...they wanted ONE big payment. We could not order off menu which, BTW offered delicious foods....had to take what was on buffet. The worse meal I have ever had....not good down home cooking that Whistle Stop has always been noted far. Little half slices of pie for dessert, and tiny squares of cake which were dry. Not even gonna mention the so called salad bar (few condiments and a little mixed greens in a bowl). If you go, please eat downstairs where you can eat off menu and order a piece of the delicious pie they are known for. This will be our last trip there. Sad part too....this was some in our party's first visit there and they were so disappointed.
Food was good. For dessert i ordered butterscotch pie. Tasted like brown sugar. Didn't care for it but my dinner was really good
