Scottys barbecue had been at this location for 20+ years and checks barbecue and blues has done a great job modernizing the restaurant. I can't speak for all the dishes but I have tried he ribs and they are a shadow of what they were when Scotty's was around or compared to a lot of other barbecue restaurants in Louisville. The ribs simply have to little meat on the bone and the quality of rib does not meet the price point, however the way in which they smoke/cook their meat had the little bit of meat on the ribs mouthwatering and delicious. I look forward to trying their brisket and hopefully they will invest in a better quality of ribs.

Driving into Louisville late craving BBQ I googled late night places and Checks was one of the only places open. Upon arrival I learned the kitchen had just closed but the staff was so kind they made me two meals quickly anyway! The chicken and pulled pork sandwiches with potato salad and coleslaw was delicious! The original and sweet bbq sauce is fantastic! Also really great to see they are LGBTQ friendly on their google page. Not only was it a great, affordable meal their excellent service saved my night! Thank you Checks!

Comfortable atmosphere, GREAT music, food was delicious and more than I could eat (took half my sandwich home), service was great (even tho they were swamped when we got there), prices are okay but everything overall was well worth it. Had pulled pork sandwiches with fries and it was great, pulled pork was tender and juicy and piled high on a bun, didn't even need sauce had good smokey flavor and service was fantastic also, waitress was extremely friendly and enjoyed cutting up and having some laughs with us. From the moment i walked in and saw how beautifully appointed was the decor i thought to myself i am in for a treat , Checks BBQ & Blues has the perfect setting for a family style atmosphere, or just wanting to share a few drinks with friends while watching sports! I wandered in with some friends on a Friday night, and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff and the incredible aroma of smoked BBQ. The restaurant was filling up quickly, but we managed to get a table. We ordered their fried chicken, pulled pork sandwiches and of course the ribs, after all whats the point of going for bar-b-que if you not ordering ribs

Anyone who has ever been to Check's in Germantown will be glad they stopped in here for a big fat fish sandwich for lunch, or happy hour, or Blues music on Friday and Saturday. This is the old Scotty's. And, as much as we love and miss Scotty, we really enjoy this remodeled and updated restaurant. When you go there, ask John or Todd for one of Rico's cups!

Hole in the wall place for amazing BBQ. Roomy and kid friendly. Several stand out dishes including the pretzel and cheese appetizer, and the bread pudding dessert but the star of the show is the St. Louis ribs! I used to frequent the previous restaurant was here, Scotty's, and was a little sad when he sold the place to Checks. That being sad, they did not disappoint! The brisket was amazing, and the Cod Nuggets are excellent! They did a great job remodeling the place, but it still has the same vibe as Scotty's. The best part? They still have Big Bubba's beans, the best on the planet!! The service was spot on and we never really had to wait too long for our food. Thanks Check's for keeping Scotty's and Bubba's legacy alive and well!! We will definitely be back!

I really want to like this place because of the Checks legacy. The atmosphere is good. We have seen a couple really good blues bands here. The food has been hit or miss. Some days it's really good and some days it's off. I hope it starts going back to its Checks roots where you can count on really great food, every time.

Wanted to try something new and regret it. I was told scottys bbq before was no good and this place however is the same. The brisket was dry and cold and my wifes pulled chicken was surprisingly spicy for bbq and also included soggy, chewy chicken skin. The sides however such as the potato salad and cole slaw were pretty good but not hard to mess that up. Will not be coming again and i do not recommend. Drive a few miles down the road to Marks feed store. Much better and not overpriced for what you get.

They have no idea the lasting impression they have made. I have celiac and therefore had the typical "annoying" gluten questions. The waitress, Terri, was so patient and grabbed another employee, Becky, for more information. Becky was also unaware but did not hesitate to get to work on finding the answers. The owner was involved as well working to get the answers to me. Even though not every question was answered, the simple fact that they value each customer enough to put THAT much effort into answering my questions so I wouldn't get poisoned and could enjoy whatever dish I desired means EVERYTHING. I was told they would have an answer before my next visit. Well... I sure do hope so because you definitely made a repeat customer out of me. You guys rock!!!

Menu changed recently. Now serving fried shellfish and cooking all fried items together. This means patrons with shellfish allergies cannot cannot eat anything fried, which is a lot of the menu. Including they fried chicken which is one of their specialties. Service is uneven. Had to send my burger back because it was under done. Took 20 minutes to get it and everyone else was done eating when I got it. Manager did take burger off bill which was nice. Not worth the trip anymore since I cannot eat chicken

Highlights: amazing flavors on every dish! We had the pulled pork with fries, brisket with mac and cheese, and bread pudding. Smoky flavors in the meats, and the dessert had an awesome bourbon glaze. The mac and cheese might just be the best in the city. Only bummer was the brisket was tough; flavor was incredible, just tougher than what you'd want from brisket. Definitely will return and recommend! We may have dreams about that amazing mac and cheese...
