As you know, we don't usually stop to give scores when they are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Restaurant belongs to the category of American restaurant.
Great atmosphere and food. They were accommodating for any food allergies. Nice selection on the menu for food and drinks. Staff was very knowledgeable about the menu and super friendly. Richard the piano player was very entertaining and tried to connect with everyone. He was told we were from Chicago so he played "Chicago" for us! Very welcoming and highly recommended
Celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary at Buck’s last week. Buck’s is the perfect place for a special evening. The ambience was great, the service was excellent (thank you, Becca), the drinks were very good, and a generous size. Rick was wonderful on the piano and made us feel special. The food was delicious, although the Kentucky Lawyer lobster could have been a little larger and a little hotter. All in all, we had a great time.
OUR Favorite restaurant in the whole world! SO ROMANTIC! We love the friendly atmosphere and Rick Bartlet is absolutely the best!
Great dining experience. Food always consistently great accompanied by great service. Good for celebrating special occasions.
Entrees were excellent. Superb service. Only flaw was cold creme brule - we thought it was supposed to be warm. Maybe we're wrong!
The filet was delicious. Beautiful environment, kind staff, and delicious cocktails
Hands down, best dinner in Louisville!!
Just a happy hour this visit time but enjoyed my Negronis immensely.
Absolutely the best, yes pricey however the service and menu selections are above and beyond! Love the decor and servers are fantastic, right don't to hostess. Definitely be going back
Friendly service, beautiful atmosphere, excellent food
Met Sous Chef Tony on golf course so we tried it out. Did not disappoint, filet was great as was Salmon and dessert. Patrick was our server, great job. We will be back
Was in town for work, found Buck's, maybe only a table or two seated when I arrived early this Monday evening. Sat at the bar near the the excellent musician who truly soothed the atmosphere of the already cozy, southern, classy, "original old school cool" kind of place. A wonderful Makers Manhattan, followed by the filet that was perfect in most every way. The potatoes and asparagus were excellent as well and there was not a drop of food left when I finished. (p.s. Picky eater here and usually dispise any and all gravy, but ended up dipping the delicious local cheddar bread they served in it to clean my plate!) Top that with excellent service and a smile from everyone there, servers, managers, and patrons as well (you'd be crazy to be there and not be thrilled about it). Add the freshest flowers I've ever smelled throughout the entire place and you have put together one of the finest dining experiences I've ever had. Hopefully work brings me back more often and I can explore the rest of what they have to offer.
The restaurant was amazing, we celebrated our anniversary here and it was very special. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is we were there for their new years eve special and for the price, it would have been nice to have had a different option to choose as a starter besides salads. And then also one of the entrée dishes came with asparagus and while everything else was cooked perfectly the asparagus was very raw and inedible which was disappointing. Otherwise a very nice place.
Great service, great food, fantastic atmosphere. Like something out of the 1930s. Nothing else like it in Louisville!!!!!
Buck's is our absolutely favorite restaurant, located in a lovely old building in Old Louisville. We like to go there several times a year. It is our special place. Rick Bartlett is just so wonderful - beautiful, velvet voice - as he accompanies himself on the piano... Food is delicious. Service is impeccable. It's old world elegance: white tablecloths, patrons not dressed in tank tops and baseball caps.... you don't have to dress formally here - but it's nice to know there is still a restaurant in Louisville where people dress to show respect for the place and other patrons. Very classy and unique. Not a franchise.
A great restaurant in old louisville. The decor takes you back to the classic time. The service is excellent and the price is reasonable, especially for lunch. Well worth a visit.
Amazing food, great service and ambience. Rick the piano player has a great repertoire and he does take requests.
Loved every minute of it. This place is definitely Louisville's best kept secret
Delicious. Fantastic service. And extraordinary food. Awesome selection of burboun
We had a delightful evening. The atmosphere was exquisite, the food was delicious, and the music was wonderful. We splurged a little more than we had anticipated, but it was definitely a good choice.
A special place in Louisville. Good food in a quiet setting.
Is the food was me and warm on and pricey
Quaint, fantastic food , great atmousphere.
Fabulous food. Expensive. Great piano man.. Loud talking. But that ok
Excellent food. Superb bourbon selection. Very nice pianist playing while we dined. I had the salmon - very good. Lynn had a chicken salabuchi (sp?) and loved it. We shared a bourbon infused bread pudding. I'm not normally a bread pudding guy but this was very good. Take your Urban Bourbon trail book with you.
Great place for family photo and entertainment
Awesome place , very friendly and attentive...food is awesome too!
The service and food at Bucks is impeccable! We have never had an experience that was less than excellent. During this visit my husband had the Duroc Pork Chop, his usual, lol. I tried the Kentucky Lawyer. Delectable! We had the fried green tomato and crab appetizer. The crab meat was a treat and the combination was perfectly finished with a wonderful hollandaise sauce. We finished dinner with our favorite dessert, the "chantilly" cake.
Excellent food and great people
Wonderful time at a wonderful place.
Food was amazing. Love the atmosphere
Great food in a nostalgic setting!
Wonderful ambiance with an excellent selection of food! We love to dine at several of the high end places in town and this place certainly is a hidden gym. Want to feel like you are dining in Central Park? Look no further.
My wife and I got engaged at Buck's in 2014, and recently celebrated there again after our wedding. The entire experience was a delight from beginning to end. Beginning with a warm welcome from the stellar piano player, to fabulous service from the manager Karen, to an excellent and memorable dinner that all our guests raved about, Buck's is a truly special place that everyone should visit at least once. We'll be back every year on our anniversary.
Great food, service and atmosphere. Unique. Awesome.
This place is amazing and the food and service are the bomb! Totally love it!
Let me be the billionth person to like this place. Slow pace. I loved that. Excellent food. Happy happy happy
Chicken carbonara was excellent. I could have eaten a bigger portion!
First time at Buck's with my husband and it was an awesome experience. We did not arrive until 9:30pm and the service, food, and music was definitely worth the drive for us.
Good restaurant the atmosphere was amazing very high class. The food was delicious but the servings could have been bigger. Our waitress Brandi did an amazing job serving a large crowd of people. Highly recommend just bring a big wallet!
What a fabulous filet mignon, cooked to perfection! The service was impeccable, and the atmosphere cozy, elegant, and old-world. A truly special dining experience! Here's a shout-out to the manager, Karen, for going above and beyond!
The beef vegetable soup, today's soup of the day, is delicious! I substituted the dressing on the house salad for the avocado vinegarette and it was also excellent!
Great food great people. Kudos do Chef Colter. We will be back
We attended the Holiday Home Tour in Old Louisville and were originally settled on a different restaurant when we received Buck's as a recommendation from the Bourbon Inn and we were so glad we made the change. The decor is beautiful and the live piano music is a plus. The wait staff is attentive and very accommodating. The food is delicious from the starters to the entrees. This is a real gem and if you find yourself in Louisville it is a must visit!! Now that we have discovered Buck's we will be returning.
Excellent food and live piano music by talented musician! All of out party had a great night and host as well as wait staff were exceptional.
People you better go here with someone special!!!!#she's worth it fellas.
Maybe the best food and service we've had, anywhere. Great entertainment also.
Excellent. One of our favorite restaurants for lunch and dinner
GreT atmosphere and food.
Let me start off by saying the customer service here is beyond 5 stars! Our server Damian was amazing! He went above and beyond to make it a friendly and comfortable experience. From the live musician playing the piano, to the perfectly dim lights... AMAZING! You are probably wondering about the food right? When I tell you it was amazing! Cooked to perfection and served up like a piece of artwork. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone for any occasion. If you have the opportunity to choose a server make sure you ask for Damian! I have not received the type of service we received tonight in a long long long time! There are so many things that could have went wrong and I would still come back and try it again. The price of the food is worth it. I believe it is priced correctly. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. The experience is actually priceless. Again thank you Damian for making our experience amazing and we will be back!
Great restaurant! Great food! Great Service! Karen and Lisa are awesome!!
Great seafood lunch broil. As always bucks is a classy establishment with talented and good hearted service.
Wow! What a treasure in Old Louisville. Service was top notch, lovely atmosphere with live piano player and tons of fresh flowers. My husband and I shared the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer. It was extremely tasty. Husband had the crispy fish and it was cooked exactly right with just the right amount of heat in the sauce. I had the filet which was also excellent. Desserts and coffee were perfect end to the perfect evening...all within walking distance of our house. I think we've found our new favorite. See you again soon, Buck's!
My husband and I are from Ohio (we stayed at the Bourbon Inn) and dined at Buck’s aroumd the corner. We were tired from our wanderings and hadn’t initially planned for anything upscale, so we almost didn’t go. I’m so glad we did. The food was amazing and plentiful, the service was outstanding—everyone was so attentive and sweet!—and the pianist was skilled, fun, and smooth. We’ll definitely return on our next trip. Thank you Buck’s!
My wife and I ate here as part of a package with the DuPont B&B and we loved it! The food and drinks were outstanding, the entertainment was delightful, and the service was great. The manager, Karen, was super sweet and made sure everything was perfect when the food came out. Well worth going to for a special night.
Historical place, feels like going back in time. Love the white flowers at the bar
Very nice place. Great food!
Was ok, just ok. Waitress (Brandi)was good. Food came out quick (we were the first ones in). My wife's was very good (Kentucky Lawyer), I had the pork chop. Came out medium rare. I sent it back and when it returned, it seemed as if it was put in a microwave; cooked but "had mark's where the jockey was hitting it" as Rodney would say. Not impressed, especially at the price which was high for the portions & definately for the quality. Btw, this site is not correct on available food items or prices (higher in store).
A very classy and relaxed restaurant with a wide variety of wonderful food, delicious desserts, and a great pianist. Fourth visit no complaints we will continue our reservations, keep up the great work.
Food is amazing! This place has a cool location and atmosphere. White tablecloths on the table. Live piano player. Very friendly. Expect to spend $75-$100 for an appetizer and 2 entrees depending on what you order. Very much enjoyed our dinner there and will be back.
Always a great meal for a date night. Delicious food, a sophisticated menu, good live piano music, and flowers for the ladies.
One of the nicest places to eat in Louisville. Delicious food, great service, wonderful atmosphere. Located in Old Louisville. Super nice staff, make you feel like friends.
Very charming.
Good terrific. Desserts great. Excellent service beautiful elegant atmosphere.
Best place in Louisville for am amazing dinner. The staff is top notch! Never had a disappointing meal or experience here!
Just awesome is all I can say.
Buck’s is an amazing restaurant with great ambiance and delicious food! Karen, the event coordinator and night manager, always goes above and beyond to make our dining experience unforgettable. Thank you Karen for your ongoing hospitality - it does not go unnoticed!
The hostess and waitress spoiled us. Such a friendly atmosphere and the food was amazing!
Thoroughly disappointed, especially with a bill of 172 bucks for 2 people. Walking in the place, it had a funky smell. The salad was a wedge of lettuce with a few crumbs of bacon and 1 pecan. The NY Strip steak had a very grainy texture and soaked in butter. Served with 2 half pieces of asparagus and a mediocre mash potatoes. The creme brulee was cold and no real flavor, walmart would've had a better creme brulee in the freezer section. The cocktail "Sweet Kentucky" tasted like cheap liquor. My Fiancee's salad was also sub par, the medium steak she ordered was seared on the outside and raw all the way through. She also unfortunately ordered the creme brulee. Overall I wish I had gone somewhere else to spend my hard earned money for Valentines day. Will never return to this place!
I love this place. Can be romantic, lunch is fairly priced. Dinner is a bit more expensive. Upscale place. The wait was fair for the atmosphere. Very polite and courteous staff. Alchohol is served. Wonderful desserts. I'd go back and definitely recommend to check it out. Not really a place for kids BUT I took my 5 year old with us one time, he is behaved and did ok. There is no plastic ware. There were no chicken nuggets either if you get my drift..... again. Love it and I'd go back!
Well-kept Louisville secret We rave about it
Good food, although slow service for such a pricey menu.
Only went for wine, killer selection, knowledgable staff. Hard to find these kind of "old school" restaurants, not trying to be trendy. Certainly a very white crowd though. Piano player was pretty good.
This is one of my favorite Louisville Originals. I have never had a bad meal here. They can get crowded so call ahead.
Awesome bourbon list, great food and exceptional service!
Loved it. Great service and excellent food. The wine list is extensive but not overpriced.
Woderful food better service and goreous surrondings
Great Food and huge variety of cocktails, Really great staff and loved the music entertainment! My favorite place in Louisville for Dining. Very busy on Valentine's weekend and still great service!
Interesting place. Loved the atmosphere and good. The gentleman playing the piano and singing was an awesome touch.
Very busy evening after the Breeders Cup 11/03/18. Walked in with no reservations, hostess said probably a one hour wait. She sat us at the bar and about ten minutes later we were seated. Excellent service, excellent food. We got back to the condo in Old Louisville and realized we left our bag with Breeders Cup memorabilia. Went back to retrieve our bag and they all met us at the door with our goods, including the gentleman who played the piano. Six stars if I could get away with it...... Thank you Louisville....... Jerry
Wonderful atmosphere, the very best southern hospitality, and food that is among the best I've ever enjoyed. Can't wait to return. Engelica is a precious lady and server.
The food and staff are always awesome. Bucks is an oasis of escape in Old Louisville.
Best service you can get. I had the crab cakes, which rival the coast. The fried green tomatoes it came with are just about the best I’ve tasted.
Service was friendly and kind, but a little slow. Food was amazing! The pork chop and brussel sprouts over a sweet potato mousse were superb!!! The pianist, Rick Bartlett, was also a lovely surprise for dining entertainment.
Exceptional service. Came for lunch as part of a special lucheon event for ISA. The tomato blue cheese bisque was very flavorful however not being a fan of blue cheese made it hard to finish. Wasn't sure if the chunks of blue cheese contributed to the slight bitter after taste of the soup. Crab cakes were pleasant but I was mystified by the sweet tomatoes corn sauce accompanying the jasmine rice. The sweet butter at the table for the fresh cheese bread was shocking. Wasn't expecting to find the whipped butter actually had granulated sugar mixed in?! The dessert was a limonata tiramisu with a dacquiose cookie garnished by buttercream, whipped cream and coffee syrup garnish. The tiramisu was just whipped cream, diced lemon rind, limonata syrup topped with a soggy/hard ladyfinger biscuit. Not a tiramisu in the truest sense just separate components without the creaminess you'd expect. Great pianist playing throughout the meal. Not sure why diners think this restaurant should be a do not miss.
Delicious meals. I had Spicy Cantonese noodles and my friend had risotto. The bourbon bread pudding was very good.
The tomato and blue cheese soup was terrible. Too much blue cheese. The beef and mushroom seemed old.
Fantastic food and wonderful service. Loved it.....
Diverse menu, beautiful decor and fresh flowers everywhere, good pricing at lunch, and excellent service! My only comment would be that some of the dishes have way too much sauce, such as the fish dish. Otherwise, very tasty!
Just ok this time.
Good good. Especially Breda pudding.
The wife and I were treated like royalty. The food was superb, the service was superior and the music was excellent. We will dine at Bucks every time we are in Louisville.
Delicious food and great atmosphere. Very loud, felt rushed through my meal. Eclectic patrons. I would hardly call this 'up-scale'. A fresh coat of paint might help. I will go back, however.
Great food, great service!
My fiance and I had a wonderful candlelit dinner in the piano made for an extremely romantic evening. The steak was nice and then lobster tails for the best I had ever had
An absolute favorite for celebrating big events like birthdays and anniversaries. Food is always top notch (esp the brussel sprouts) and the early-20th century atmosphere is always classy but never stuffy. Buck's has been a staple for our family for years and will continue to be so.
We went for supper before a Cirque show at YUM! Center. Becca was an exceptional server and our experience was wonderful. Dessert was to die for. Great pisno music, as well. I highly recommend Buck's!
Food and atmosphere were excellent, however, saw a picture of some friends we ran into there last night and the women were holding their beautiful white flowers. After talking to a couple others about where we had dined last night, everyone brought up the fact the women receive fresh cut flowers. Our ladies aren't very happy they were spared what obviously is a special part of the experience. No guarantee of our return.
Went here for my anniversary dinner last year and it was amazing. The scenery was beautiful and the food was delicious! There was even a gentlemen who played a song dedicated to my boyfriend and I. I can't wait to go back again!
Atmosphere was nice, little slow with the food ordering.
Buck's really has no equivalent locally. It oozes casual elegance. Nobody walks out without feeling special and feeling satisfied.
Quality food and presentation, attentive service, piano and vocals lend to a great atmosphere and relaxing evening. Have been several times. Will return!
Went for lunch. We had very good food, excellent service and great ambience! The tomato blue cheese soup is a must, to try. Salads were excellent and the Cantonese noodles were not only abundant but very tasty!
I'm totally impressed with the whole experience, food, entertainment, and hospitality was awesome. I recommend this place to all!!!
Excellent food and great atmosphere at a reasonable price as always, whether lunch or dinner. Highly recommended. One of the best spots in Louisville.
Excellent food, decor/ambiance and service! Will definitely return next time I am in Louisville.
In addition to agreement with the valid points made in other rave reviews, I submit a question: Why is a place with one of the very best outdoor dining settings in Louisville almost never cited for it? It's a soothing tree-canopied oasis enhanced by the surrounding architectural grace of Old Louisville. One of the treasures of our community.
The service was great! The live music was wonderful! The ambiance was really nice! And, best of all, the food was absolutely amazing!
The price tag is a little hefty (hence the celebrations) but they certainly do not skimp on portion sizes. I ALWAYS have lunch the next day! They have some classic dishes and a series of delicious rotating specials. The atmosphere is relaxed fine dining with romance galore! The bar is dripping with fresh flowers - the aroma in the dining room is a mix of fresh garden and sumptuous baking bread! It's a perfect date spot, with soft lighting and live soft jazz piano. By far, one of my favorite places in town!
Great ambience and awesome cocktails and food.
Very good! Very Consistent. A Louisville classic!
Had the most exquisite tomato bisque.
Lovely experience outstanding customer service excellent food! I’ll b back
Excellent lunch choice for Old Louisville area.
My favorite restaurant in Louisville - great food, great people, great atmosphere. never noisy and Rick Bartlett on piano.
Lovely place, great ambience, good service. Rick Bartlett provides beautiful vocal and keyboard music. My dinner was a bit disappointing. Coucous was dry as dust, appetizer was overcooked. Of the friends with me, one said her dinner was great. The other thought her was disappointing also
Good: The dining room and ambiance is tops! Definitely caters to romantic evenings, but even if you don't have a romantic bone in your body, it's still a good vibe. I found the food and service to be exceptional. My favorite food: the roasted Brussels sprouts (very hard to find when dining out). Cautions: Menu is limited, but that is the norm at an upscale restaurant. No worries as anyone can check out the menu online before hand. Some entrees have a heavy price tag, but again, that can be seen before visiting. As a frugal foodie, I simply made use of some very affordable items available on the menu. Great place and I highly recommend.
For the best food, the best atmosphere and the best music from Rick on the piano you will enjoy your dining experience.
This is now my favorite restaurant in Louisville. We went for my parent's 60th anniversary, my sister in law's 50th and my 55th birthdays. We were a party of 7 and they seated us in a semi private area where we wouldn't disturb any other patrons. The food was perfectly prepared, perfectly presented and expertly served. The piano player sang a lovely song for my parents and acknowledged our birthdays. He even came back to talk to us. When the bill was presented to my father each of the women in our group was presented with a white flower to take home. As an added aside, the bill wasn't bad. We feed 7 people, including 2 teen-aged boys for less than $500...we were expecting more than that, especially when you consider 5 adults had cocktails, appetizers and dessert. It is the perfect restaurant for a special event or a romantic date.
This place is top notch . Very friendly and great service . Food was amazing . Will definitely go again . Just a great atmosphere
The service was impeccable, and the food was delicious! I am definatly going back!
Elegant and priced accordingly.
My wife and I went to celebrate our anniversary. Food is super delicious. I got fillet minion, and it was really amazing. My wife had salmon and she loved it. The atmosphere is charming and uplifting. Beautiful, elegant, and eclectic. Live music is wonderful. Staff is friendly and thoughtful. I’d say very good service by Chris And Karen and Becca. They knew of our anniversary and greeted us accordingly. We’d go again.
My steak was cooked to perfection a romantic atmosphere piano player flowers definitely will be back. Great for a date night.
If I could give more than 5 stars I would. We planned a surprise 70th birthday party for my mother and Buck’s so accommodating. They went out of their way to make it such a special night not only for my mother but for everyone there. Karen Shane and our waitress, Becca, went above and beyond. A special menu was prepared to accommodate everyone at dinner with the heading Happy 70th Birthday Sherry. Even the smallest detail like that delighted my mother. Our party consisted of 17 people, our drinks were always promptly filled & our food orders taken fast without any hesitation to special request. The salads arrived within minutes of being ordered. Shortly after the last bite of salad was taken our entrees were served. Hardly a word was spoken during the entire eating of the entrées as we were all enjoying our delicious meals. Some of the entrées we enjoyed were the fillet mignon, chicken saltimbocca, crispy fish, Prosciutto wrapped lamb chops and Duroc pork chops. The side orders that came with each order were mouthwateringly delicious as well. Even though every table was just about full on a Friday night at dinner time we were treated as if we were the only people in the restaurant. There are not enough words to say how much I appreciated all the special attention we were given for this event. Karen, Becca, Lisa, Chef Allen , Sous Chef Anthony as well as anyone else who partook is our night from the bottom of our hearts and bellies, thank you for everything.
Great place for lunch if you're downtown it is an old Louisville so you have to give up a parking spot
The most amazing evening I have ever had. I have serious anxiety and because of the ambiance I had an awesome calm evening. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I'm 30 and wasn't expecting much to be honest, but I was pleasantly surprised! The service was great and the food was excellent. A bottle of wine, appetizer to split and two entrées ran us $190, which is not bad. The live music was really wonderful, especially when he started playing the guitar. I'm definitely going back.
We had appetizers and drinks there early on a Thursday evening. There was a piano player who was good though he didn't play long while we were there. The food and was good and the hostess was friendly. There were a lot of regulars there. A place to try if you are near Old Historic Louisville.
Best evening entertainment in town. Rick Bartlett is the nicest, sweetest piano man I've had the pleasure to watch and know. The food is good too but we definitely go for the atmosphere. Lots of fun for birthdays and celebrations in general. Flowers for the ladies on each visit. Was one of my Mom's favorite dinner spots..
Sirloin steak was excellent and service was great.
Nice date night dinner and drinks.
It was the first time for me. I was pleasantly surprised. I will be back .
One of the classiest dining experiences you will have anywhere any time. Food is
Upscale environment without upscale prices
Amazing steaks! The Mocha Dacquoise is a must try. We went for a birthday and the entire staff made it one of the most memorable birthdays. They treat you like you are someone important. I can't wait to go back.
Buck's did not disappoint. Just as wonderful as we remembered. Ty
Great food, music, service and atmosphere. One of our favorite places. Always an enjoyable evening at Buck's.
