Don't let the location and appearance scare you off! I had heard from a BBQ connoisseur that this was the best place to get real BBQ anywhere. The first time I found it, I have to say that I left before ever stepping inside. A year later I was still hearing positive accolades so I went to try it out. What a gem. Great prices, friendly service and most definitely, the best BBQ I have ever eaten. I recommend the brisket sandwich and potatoes salad.

This place smokes with Oak wood. The Blue Door special is not a bad way to go. You get a little taste of everything. The brisket was good and moist, the pulled chicken had a good dry rub on them, and the pulled pork was ok. The ribs were a bit over cooked and dry. The ranch style beans with a little bit of brisket, seemed store bought in my opinion. The potato salad was a good choice.

We had lunch here today and despite the rough exterior our entire experience was wonderful. We were able to find a seat inside and enjoyed every item we ordered which included potato salad, collard greens, creamy Cole slaw, brisket, and pulled pork. They ran out of ribs before we arrived seeing as all items are smoked daily and first come first serve. This place deserves the awards and I will go back anytime I visit Lexington. The friendly staff is the cherry on top and I am happy to contribute to their success with my business!

Been hearing about Blue Door since I have been coming to Lexington. Finally had the chance to have dinner. A bit of a wait but it was so worth it. The brisket was full of flavor and the sausage was perfection without much fat, just great spicing. Casual, smaller than I expected but the food was awesome.

Best barbecue in Lexington, without any question. I would walk across town in the rain for a plate of their brisket and collard greens. Be sure to get there as early as you can; the brisket usually sells out within a few hours. Everything was so good. The brisket was amazing! Sausage and pulled pork we're great too. Potato salad was good too. Staff was friendly

Have made a mission of trying all the bbq places in the Lexington area and this one is the best. Had the pulled pork and beef brisket combo and helped finish off my 9 year olds half rack ; all of it was tender and delicious. The staff clearly enjoyed their work. This is certainly one of our favorite places now to get smoked meat. There's not a lot of seating, but it looked like most people we're ordering carryout. We didn't have a problem finding a place to sit and eat. The food was really good and they had a decent selection of sauces. The place was clean and the staff was friendly. We will eat there again.

From the minute you open the door, the aroma of good ole’ backyard bbq hits you like a fond memory from your favorite summertime cook out. All the meats have a smoky flavor that need no addition of sauces, however, their sauces are wonderful! My favorite was the brisket with a side of collards and slaw! Thus far, this is the best place for pulled pork in Lexington- I'm comparing them to Lyle's, Edley's, and City Barbecue here. Not only is their pulled pork perfectly seasoned- albeit with a bit more pink than I'd cook to- but their sauce selection is varied as well. The price for a half pound of pulled pork is perfect for a quick bite- the slaw is crisp and the atmosphere is cozy. You have to get in when there's seating, though!

Absolutely the best beef brisket I've ever eaten -- very flavorful, substantial portion, unbelievably tender! I give 5 stars for the meats and 3 for the sides I had (potato salad somewhat bland, vinegar slaw was dry). My wife had pulled pork that was delicious, bland potato salad, but Cole slaw was very good. We will go back to try more offerings until we sample everything. After all, BBQ is all about the meat. Staff was very nice to us.

The best except for two draw backs. Seating and they don't make their own sausage. They smoke it but it's not unique or remarkable in any way. Extra credit for the sprinkles they put on the pulled pork. Their ranch beans are excellent. Service is great. Parking can be a little tricky too. But none of these things prevent me from going back over and over again.

Hands down, the best barbecue in Lexington. Kind of a Memphis pit style, you can't go wrong with any of the meats on the menu. I prefer the brisket, but I've had the sausage and it's excellent aside from being a little spicy (which is where the "kind of" Memphis pit comes from, there's some Texas rub heat in there too). Only recommendation - get there early. The lunch rush is hectic, there's no room to sit, and they frequently run out of menu items afterward. If this sounds like a complaint, it's not. It's just that good. I hope this place graces Lexington for years to come.

This was genuinely some of the best bbq I’ve ever had. I got the Blue Door Special and it was incredible. I wasn’t hungry for the next three days but beyond that, it was awesome. The pork was absolutely beyond any other and that special bbq fairy dust they sprinkled on top was magical. Go there and go often.

BEST BBQ I'VE HAD IN 15 YEARS! And cheap. Not many tables for dining-in but they offer carryout. Not many sides to choose from, but who needs them. I just got the bag o chips. I had the pulled pork sandwich and the wife had the brisket. The sandwich had so much meat on it I had to help her finish it. We both had a fountain drink and the total cost for lunch was less than $17. Will definitely be coming back here. Maybe even for super tonight ;)

Long waits are a frequent sight here, but its worth it. fantastic brisket and pulled chicken. I almost gave a four star because they do not have home made ice tea (I know, but we can't sue just for that), but the food is excellent. Go with a friend and order their meat special so you can try all the meats. Its great. Go (back) today.

Displaced Texan living in Wisconsin--I NEEDED this barbecue. I got the brisket sandie with coleslaw on it. The brisket had a nice smoke ring, excellent flavor, not at all grisly, and fell apart in my mouth. Fan-freaking-tastic. I also got a side of potato salad on the recommendation of the gentleman who took our order, and that was the best potato salad I've ever had in my life. Driving back to Wisconsin yesterday, I was busy mentally scheming how I could recreate it. (Blue Door chefs--if you're reading this and feeling generous, I'd love the recipe. It would only benefit myself and my husband.) Thank you so much for such a stellar meal.

While passing through town, we googled ‘best bbq in Lexington’ and found Blue Door Smokehouse. We stopped in around 6-7pm on a Friday and they were out of ribs, sadly, but I ordered the last of the brisket. I could tell it was the last of it because I was given way more than I deserved and it was amazing. Both sauces were delicious! And the best part is we ordered our food to go and my man brought the food out to the car where we proceeded to eat on the hood of the car. Amazing experience, friendly staff, great food. I’ll always come back when I’m in the area.

Brisket, sausage, and pulled pork are standouts, but pulled chicken and turkey are likewise amazing. Choice of sauces will not disappoint. An absolute MUST for barbecue or Southern comfort food fans. My friend and I moved to Lexington a week ago and wanted to get some good BBQ, we came across Blue Door Smokehouse and had to go. OMGoodness!!! It was Absolutely Amazing!!! The pulled pork was phenomenal, as was the mouth watering, tender, brisket. They had me at the opening of the "Blue Door", the smell was ridiculous. "Dinner's, Drive-Ins and Dives" has to have them on their show.

Better than many, not as good as some. Visited for lunch recently with a group of 6 and barely found a seat in the small dining area-which was a good sign because the place was busy. I tried the sliced brisket sandwich plate and overall, thought the sides were as good or better than the brisket. Though a little dry, the brisket had a good smoke ring and decent flavor. The potato salad was delicious and the collard greens nice and tender. Not bad overall.

Original Zomato Review 10/1/14 - SERVED TEXAS STYLE. A group from work went by today for lunch--the folks that work here are super nice and I can tell that they care about the product and service. The atmosphere is great--BDS had Johnny Cash on, decor is pretty cool and seating is limited. I ordered the pulled pork plate with vinegar slaw and potato salad--you know, the mainstay of every barbecue restaurant. The food is served on a metal platter on butcher paper--that's how Texas barbecue is served. Here's what I thought: the pork was so good that it didn't need sauce, the vinegar slaw was good, and the potato salad extremely good. The burnt ends were out of this world...I could have eaten a box of them. The only thing missing is a good glass of sweet tea...honestly, this is probably one of the best pulled pork plates I've ever eaten. And, heck yea, I'll be back.

Don't bother. This is just a hobby for the owner, not run as a business. We drove 400 miles to come here, because it was highly recommended but they ran out of food at 3:30 in the afternoon! I've been to hundreds of BBQ joints and can understand them running out of one or two meats an hour or so before closing, but having no food 4.5 hours before closing on a Saturday is simply gross incompetence and should not be rewarded. They clearly don't give a damn about their customers. There is plenty of space to put in equipment so it's simply a choice by the owner to not bother having enough food. We will NOT come back, this place deserves to die. Does not matter how good the food is if they don't want customers.

Blue Door BBQ a brisket sandwich is very good there but the ribs I like her little pricey compared to the Smokehouse in Nicholasville you can get rid for the same price anywhere but the brisket sandwiches what you want to try I would recommend that anywhere I don't understand why they run out of barbecue at 3 in the afternoon in the summer but anyway go try the brisket it's one of the best sandwiches that you'll ever try

I'm from Pittsburgh and I was traveling around and I posted a question online about 'What should I do in Lexington?' I got so many responses to go to the Blue Door Smokehouse that I had to try it. Man, I was not disappointed! Some of the best BBQ I have ever had! You know it is a great joint when the silverware is in an old can and you get your own roll of paper towels. Highly recommended! I will always visit when I am in Lexington for sure!

I gave this place four stars because the food was excellent. I had the brisket sandwich, and really enjoyed it. The things I didn't like were the parking, the size of the restaurant, and the drinks. The place was packed, which is fine, but there aren't many tables, and it's hard to know what's going on. Also, they were experiencing some serious difficulties with their soda machine. It was almost comical. The Pepsi was water, then they kinda fixed it, but it was really watered down, then the Dr. Pepper went out and was just water. I think they need a new soda machine. The food though, that's why the place was packed, it was exceptional. I recommend it, especially if you're nearby already and can just walk over there.

Best BBQ I've had in a LONG time!! Ribs just fall off the bone. Brisket is perfectly charred on the outside but amazingly tender on the inside. Smoked sausage is the BOMB! Could eat a plateful of just those. Pulled pork amd shredded chicken were also great! Yes, we had ALL the meats. My husband, a native of Georgia, highly recommends the collard greens as a side dish and the potato salad tastes homemade. We're Georgia Dawgs fans here for the game and highly recommend this hidden gem to all fellow Dawgs!! (And everyone else too).

By far the best barbecue in the area. I live down in TN and haven't found anything that compares. All meats are really well done. Sauces and sides are good as well. Staff are always really kind and friendly. Only drawback is that they are really popular and only have 6 or so small tables. If you plan to eat in, go at an off time or get there early. If you have a large group have a plan to take the food elsewhere.

Outstanding beef brisket sandwich. The onion and pickles with the excellent hamburger bun made that sandwich that much better. Barbecue sauce is fantastic give you a mix of sweet spicy and tangy. A cute little small joint that has outstanding barbecue. I would go here again.

This place was such a good find! If you want the ribs you better get there early because everything is fresh and they will sell out of them. Don't be sad though, if they are out of ribs everything on their menu is delicious. We tried a variety of things from the menu at our table and were very pleased. The potato salad seemed to be sour cream based which was really different from what I typically think of but it was really good. They have Grippos Chips as a side. What more could you ask for?

Best brisket and chicken I’ve ever had in my life hands down, no question. Whenever I have brisket here I don’t have to eat for at least 3 weeks because the meat has more vitamins and nutrients than any other place on Earth. I hear these cows are massaged by tiny bovine angels before they offer themselves up to the smoke Gods.

Doesnt look like much from the parking lot but dont be fooled! The BBQ is awesome. Prices are great actually might be under priced. Highly recommended. You wont be disappointed.
