Was a good place to eat a couple years ago, not even worth the 1 star I gave it. $17.00 for 2 pulled pork sandwiches and 2 little bowls of cole slaw, it was the worst bbq we've ever eaten and the portions so small we left hungry. I hate fast food but I would rather eat at McDonald's!

The food was mediocre at best, it was cooked correctly but the flavor was missing... The pulled pork was kinda dry and lacking that juicyness that pulled pork is known for! I needed sauce! The sides, well the baked beans and Cole Slaw...i could have gotten this at a big grocery chain deli.. once again, there wasn't anything that stood out to me. The Chocolate pie, was chalky and somewhat distasteful. The Pecan Pie, well... it tasted like Store bought pies.. The service was good and that made my day!

I was gifted a free coupon for a meal special. I finally made it in the other day to give it a try and had the Chicken special. The sauce they used on the chicken had a bad smell to it! I managed to get underneath it and get the drumstick eaten. It was fall off the bone tender but I couldn't get over the smell of the sauce on the skin! The coleslaw was wilty and the beans quite unextraordinary. Although I was hungry I made a decision to just leave, I had only eaten that one little tiny drumstick and a couple of bites from the beans and coleslaw! I hate to waste anything and I won't repeat the description that I gave my husband of where I thought they got the sauce! Just a really sad and disappointing experience. I did hear the employees talking about how slow it has been all day, especially considering that traffic have been stacked up in front of the place with the signal light out down the street. Now I know why it was so slow there and I'm hoping to warn others! From now on I will be perfectly happy with the delicious BBQ down the street that HillBilly Barbecue in Wickliffe!

Probably the Worst in Customer Service..A customer actually left while I was there.. The man at the register rushes you to order, then you are told to sit..the portions are small..pulled pork sandwich had hard black chunks..smallest portions ever..wont be back..

Best bbq I ever had! Have ate bbq all over from Kansas City BBQ, Memphis BBQ, Carolinas BBQ and this place tops them all. I had the pleasure of eating here everyday for lunch while living and working in Paducah for 6 months. I also stopped in everytime I've past by Paducah on my way to other states and sometimes drove out of my way just to eat there, the bbq is just so worth it! Their food is amazing and their sauce is fantastic, but their prices are just as great with very reasonable lunch and dinner items. Would highly highly recommend Backwoods BBQ!!

I also recommend for catering and large orders. they do their food well large groups and their order filling is always spot on. I would recommend for anyone stopping through the area and looking for a great place to get home style food.

The first review by Carol is spot on: Backwoods is worth stopping for. I ordered a half-slab, and the meat just fell off the bone. Backwoods has some of the best barbecue I've found, and I travel the whole country. Also, they don't skimp on the ice cream servings. Take exit 4 off I-24 and go west on U.S. 60. It's about a half-mile on the left, in front of the Lowes. Oh, and be sure to try their hash brown casserole when you choose a side dish.

The place is very clean and the employees give great customer service. The pulled pork sandwich that i had was great. I would defiantly recommend it. If ever you're in that aera, and have a taste for a pulled pork sandwich, give them a visit. They also carry a great variety of sides like french fries and potato salad, baked potatos, or green beans and much more... that will accommodate your order very well. Sooo as always....Happy eating...

This used to be the best BBQ in town (best in the area Knoth's hands down), but has seemingly declined in the past couple of years, to the point where it's not worth going. The pork has been crazy dry the past 3 times I've been there, and the service has been worse each time as well. Their hot sauce has stayed consistently the best in Paducah, though! Pick it up in a bottle, take it home and pick up some pork elsewhere.

We were passing through Paducah and looked on Yelp for local places, preferably BBQ. In the last couple months we had been to Gemantown BBQ in Memphis and Tuffy Stone's Q Barbeque in Richmond VA. The reviews we saw for Backwoods we're very good so we stopped. My wife had the pulled pork and hash brown casserole. The pork was dry with little flavor. I had the BBQ ham, this was not a ham from the hog, this was a processed slice of ham same as you would purchase in the store. The ham had an electrical smell type after taste. When I asked if they used an electric smoker or to control the temp I was told the ham was done on the flattop and had sauce added. NOT an enjoyable meal, we pass through Paducah frequently, if we are that way at meal times, I will keep on driving or stop at Micky D's. The only good news was the server, efficient and friendly.

BBQ? More like BB Ew. Outside of the waitress conning me out of the meal I initially wanted (claimed I could drop one item and get another for the same price, which it wasn't), the food is terrible. I was told the cole slaw was sweet, and it tasted all too bitter. It was salad with a light dressing, and didn't taste like any cole slaw I had before. The beans were warm and overdone, like something you'd throw out of the can and onto the stove. And the BBQ... I'm a meat lover down to the core. BBQ is an art. They graded an F. While the meat has some smoked smell to it, there was no taste. Their pulled pork wasn't pulled. There was no seasoning or sauce. Nothing with the pork. The 'bbq sauce' they claim to make it also not where it should be. There are no labels as to what is normal/mild/etc. The mild, which I had no idea was mild, was packed harshly with vinegar, pepper, and cayenne peepers to the point that the consistency was a pure liquid. There was no hold, and I fear some soups might be thicker than this. For the total price of around 20$ for two people, I would have chosen to go anywhere else.

Stopped while at the Fall AQS quilt show. My husband had ham and I had pulled pork. Our sides were potatoe salad and baked beans. Everything was mouth watering good. Portions were generous and were served very quickly. Really nice servers who checked to make sure all was well. BBQ Sauce was Lexington dip, we stayed with mild. Different than we’ve had but good compliment to the pulled port. Beans had just enough flavor to make them special. We definitely will stop here again when back in Paducah!

TL;DR medicore food, HORRIBLE customer service, poor catering service, charge extra for plates, cups, sauce, and utensils (even with purchase), and combative with customers. EAT ANYWHERE ELSE. Full Review: In from out of town and called in for a to go order for 8 people a couple days ago. Purchased $83 in food, 2 lbs meat, 2 sides, and 3 gallons of drinks, just your usual catering to go order. Arrived today to pick up meals and as we we're paying, I realized they didn't have any plates or cups in the box. So I asked the lady if they were going to give us cups and plates. Well, you might as well thought I murdered her first born. I have never seen someone in the service industry act SO put out about something so trivial. Now I should mention it was only 11:10 am, they had just opened, and there were only two other people inside, so it wasn't like they were busy... So she says "oh..., Well, I'm going to have to charge you for all that..." And I asked, charge us for the utensils for the meals we just purchased?!? She said "yeah, we can't just give that stuff away for free". And I said, it's not free, we just purchased food and drinks for 8, how do you expect people to eat or drink? She said "well I still have to charge you", so I said whatever, but asked, are there at least utensils in there?!? She responded no and that it was our fault for not telling them on the phone when we ordered that we would need utensils to eat the meals we purchased. So I asked how else do people eat and drink your food and drinks?!? So the total was $82 and had left a $8 tip for a to go order, which I thought was pretty generous (and before I started asking about utinsiles). When she literally broke out the calculator to determine the plates were $1, cups were $1.50, and utensils were another $1, totalling $3.50, I told her to just take that out of the tip I left. She said "we can't do that, we don't split up the tips until the end of the night". I said I paid $90, and therefore paid enough to cover the $3.50, she looked very confused and said she couldn't change it but that I could. She said something about how she "gave" us free sauce and that I should somehow be thankful for getting "free" sauce, even though, as we've discussed, we paid for our catering. So she modified the receipt to take off the $3.50 and I told her we wouldn't be back. I have never experienced such poor customer service and someone that didn't understand mathematics, basic economics, or how the service industry works. What she should have done was said "oh ok, we can get all that for you, but for future reference, our policy is "X" in regards to utinsiles and we would need to charge you going forward". Or something like that. If this gets back to a manager and they would like more information, please feel free to message me.

Ordered a couple pulled pork sandwiches. Very tender pork, good sized chunks. A bit or bark still on some of the pieces. All good Meat was tender, not dried but not moist either. Sandwich was served very hot, but seemed to have been in a sandwich press. Bun was crispy to a point of being crunchy Prices rather high for the portion size of the sides served. Lady at the counter, and only server was very friendly

Worst bar b q and beans I've eaten in decades. I should have known when the place was absolutely empty but I assumed the dinner rush hadn't started. It was 5 pm. I will not eat there again. Wow, the best bbq chicken I've ever had. The pulled pork was also moist and delicious. The potato salad was a bit spicy and I wish they had more sides to choose from. The decor was great, a real entertaining theme. The ladies room was clean and modern. Unfortunately, the construction made it very difficult to get to.

We visit Paducah once a year. This is always one of my favorite places to eat. I always order a pulled pork sandwich and use the hotter bbq sauce. The sauce is not very hot, but it has very good flavor. I always enjoy it.

You have a menu board with pricing above the counter, but the ladies that took my order stated it wasn't right and the little menu they had me look at needs to be bigger. The service was ok. They were rushing to get you to order something. I was the only one in line and the other customers there were sit down customers. I got 1lb pulled pork it was good , but the 1lb of chopped pork was not good. I've gotten bbq a lot from Backwoods over the years and that was the worst I've had from y'all.

Stopped here on the road home for some BBQ. Got in about an hour before close, but everything looked okay and all cleaned up. We were greeted and invited to sit wherever. Sat down and noticed the carpet was very dirty (not sure why you'd have carpet in a restaurant?). The temperature inside was also extremely cold, and I'm from the north and enjoy the cold. Waitress came and took our drink order and brought back drinks. Took our food order and came back very quickly with the food. Wife & son ordered pulled pork plate with 2 sides, I got pulled pork sandwich with a side, daughter got a grilled cheese. After the waitress brought our food, we never saw her again, no refills, no check back, nothing. Wife and son both noted that their pulled pork was lukewarm, like it was pulled out of a fridge and thrown in a microwave. The 2 hashbrown casserole sides were also lukewarm. My sandwich was semi warm, but only because the bun was grilled. Daughter's grilled cheese was literally 2 slices of bread with a slice of processed cheese in the middle (yeah, I know, its still a grilled cheese), but it was more like the bread was just toasted and cheese melted in a microwave. Wife and son didn't finish, wife was disgusted to the point of being sick (said the temperature of the meat was like it was cooked then left out all day). Son said the same, but ate a bit more. And the bill was almost $40. Not what I would expect from a place that has 4.5 stars overall. I would give it half a star if I could. It needs a lot of work.

Came in 15 minutes before closing time and wasn't expecting to get the freshest food. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Took our orders of 2 half slab plates and 1/2 lb of pulled pork to go. Ribs were fall off the bone delicious, and the pulled pork was absolutely as tender as could be. I ordered a full bottle of the Hot BBQ sauce to bring back to AZ where I had travelled from, but didn't receive any sides of the sauce that I ordered. I can only assume that is because they figured I would use the full bottle. Ended up having to open the bottle and use it which I was not planning on doing until I got home.

My husband stopped in here was looking for some good BBQ and found this place. The best Chicken EVER my husband said to me! Pull pork was tender and ok, boneless pork chop was a little dry but ok as well. Back to the chicken, I will be back for sure he said. Also EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!
