Great food... Cute little place... If you park in the lot to the right of the restaurant and get a parking violation, don't pay it. Mid-con management is not in any way affiliated with KC or KCPD.
Good for the decor, that's all
Great affordable food
Amazing burgers and they're really fast!
Good food, awesome friendly staff, I have been going there for many years
Quite small. But delicious burgers. Sub par fries. But they give you half a pound of them. So all together not a bad experience
Best burgers around! Classic diner and lovely people! Don't forget to try a piece of pie either!
Greasiest burger in Kansas City. This place knows how to make it right. Never had a bad meal here. Classic diner vibe. Very limited seating. Order togo and you'll be solid. Great after-hours spot. This place will get completely packed late at night, so be ready for a 40min wait after 11p on a weekend night.
Great burger and tots. Good old fashion burger. Great breakfast also.
Town topic has been here 75 years or more. 24 hours a day. Snack counter for a delicious freshly cooked meal breakfast, lunch or dinner. A kansas city staple. I had a double cheeseburger and it was delicious with pickles and grilled onions. I highly recommend this place.
Great burgers... I need to go back and try the breakfast.
KC MO late night favorite. According to the locals this place is pretty crazy late at night. Stopped by at 8:00 PM for a burger, rings, tots, and a malt shake. All of which were very good. Lady bening the counter recommended a double cheeseburger and it was great. Grill smashed burgers cooked just right. Cannot go wrong.
I've heard so much about this place! And it was good, just slightly disappointed. My burger was amazing, but my onion rings were cold and not good at all.
Always packed yet surprisingly quick! A KC staple.
Amazing historic hamburger joint! Great food and it stays open late.
I've been going to Town Topic over 30 years and it's ALWAYS good!
Greasy and full of flavor. No wonder why there were so many good reviews on this place! Will bring friends to KC to try it out too!
You have to be ready for the atmosphere. The food is worth the wait.
Took my order for to go, but then didn't answer the door or the phone. I'd give it zero stars if I could. Update: worst customer service ever. I asked for my shakes, and the gal said she doesn't make shakes. Really? Well what exactly do you do? Waited an extra 7 minutes for my shakes to be made. I asked for extra ketchup, she said ketchup is in your bag. May I have extra ketchup? She mumbled under her breath some Spanish nonsense. The other worker threw it in my bag. One of the cooks that had 2 teeth made a smart remark all because I asked for what I paid for. Again, worst customer service ever.
Its a small building and always busy but its worth it! Good burgers, ham and cheese, pie and milkshakes! Staff is always friendly. Open 24 hours. Not as busy during the day or early morning.
Good old fashioned greasy burgers. Nothing fancy but who needs fancy at 3:30 in the morning after a night of drinking? Hits the spot for sure. And, one of the few places in town where you can get a slice of pie.
Loved it big juicy hamburger great fries good service reminded me of the mom and pop cafes down here in the south
I love me some Town Topic the 3.2.1 and the haystack awesome
Amazing service. I'm not a huge burgers and fries person but once I had a bite of my husbands, I ordered myself one. The best burgers in KC. Not to mention the great CHOCO CHIP pancakes. Cute pinball machine. You all said to try the pie and we will next time! Can't wait to come back.
It's everything you expect it to be in more love it.
Probably the best burgers I ever ate in my entire life. The employees here are very nice. The only problem I have is that the place is a bit dirty and could use a bit of cleaning.
Great diner food makes you feel good after you eat it
Over-hyped in my opinion. The burgers were nothing to write home about. They were good, don't get me wrong, but nothing unique. Nothing that made me say, this was worth my time to come here, and get a burger from this place specifically. The Chili Cheese Tots on the other hand, I wrote a letter about them, and sent it back to my hometown mayor. Those Chili Cheese Tots were pretty good. All in all, the burgers were on par with somewhere like Freddie's in my opinion. I would recommend it if you are nearby, but don't go out of your way.
Its a classic , and the employees are super friendly !
I love this place. Unique taste. The burgers a kind of small so definitely get it double.
A place to go late at night that is packed with hipsters and yuppies and good ol regular folk all trying to get a greasy yummy stomach full of food. A place to see people be seen by people and feel cool cause it's such a hole in the wall. You will inevetibly and literally bump elbows the whole time. Staff is genuinely cool though and always on point for the most part. They make the visit worth it unless everyone hates you because you're a weirdo Pies are delicious
Love this place, go out of my way to make it there every time I'm in town.
Very good, very quick food. Staff was kind.
Best cheese burgers and onion rings around other than Hays in the Northland
Best place to get a cheeseburger in the city. Great atmosphere!
Great late night bite to eat.
Best gut bomb on Kansas City!
Best grease pit in Kansas City hands down no question. On the weekends your wait will inevitably be 45 minutes, but well worth it. It's tiny and becomes crowded easily, but people expect that and are usually understanding and friendly.
Right down the street from UpDown! Love this place. Not a lot of fancy stuff to it, but the food is good. And the service is only “mediocre” which somehow makes it even better! Try it for yourself, either way you won’t be disappointed with the quality of the food!
Best burgers I've had in a long time
Great burger. Use some deodorant, it's tiny inside, limited seating. People called me by name. Would go back.
The food was great at 130 pm they were packed couldn’t get a seat so I took it to go. Prices are a little high I thought! The quality of food was worth the extra price. There were people from out of town you could tell the way they were sharing their food with each other and pictures were being taken.
Think Waffle House, but size of a Tuna Can. Still great service and dinner/dessert options.
Always good! Triple cheese and tots! Good malts too. Always busy. Frequent often.
A true gem. Amazing food. Always busy. Good staff. Try the onion rings.
There is nothing like a local greasy spoon/burger joint for a late night snack. Town Topic had been a staple of the KC burger scene for literally decades. Make sure you try their malted milkshakes, which are hand crafted. Best burger joint in KC.
Great service, small but cozy, the food was fast and good. Got the Choc & PB pie too!
Best burgers in town grew up in the area stay going there don’t forget to grab some chili and pie !
No words can describe how amazing their bigger burger is
The food was excellent, it was delicious and they provided great customer service. Town Topic was recommended by my co-worker and it was the best! There were so many people coming in to order food; although the place is very small it never stopped the customers from coming in. Everyone waited patiently. I knew this place was a hit by the volume of people that were coming in. I would certainly recommend it.
Classic staple landmark..... Open late... Never closes..... Good food... Breakfast, lunch, and dinner...
Definitely not worth a 45 minute wait. The staff was nice, but not able to handle a crowd. Next time I want a late night burger, I'll wait in the Winstead's drive through.
It's a tiny diner, but it makes you feel like family to everyone inside. It brings strangers closer.
It had been so long since I had eaten it down topic I had forgotten just how delicious their hamburgers are yum yum
Very organized staff, worked well together to serve a lot of people . The food is remarkable. It's a great experience. It was packed with people even late at night . We waited in a line outside for 15 minutes. Worth the wait. I was so impressed with the staff. All good.
A nice small place, that feels like a perfect spot for a young person to become a regular.
Napoleon Dynamite probably got his tots from here and that's why he didn't want to share. Delicious cheap eats and great service.
I always love going back. Great food. Fast service.
Staff is very hard working, but if there is not counter space, the food is not worth the very long wait.
Very personable customer service and great food
Their hamburgers were pretty good. People and magazines for years have been ranting and raving about Town Topic. While the food is good I honestly don't think it lived up to the hype. What is neat is the storied history of town topic and how it is an intrinsic part of Kanas City culture.
If you haven't been here it's a must for Kansas City. Amazing
To expensive for the size of the burgers and they got our order wrong
Teeny tiny establishment, but its super fast and fresh. Would totally eat there again.
On a busy night there will be a significant wait, but it’s absolutely worth it. Traditional American burgers on a flat top, killer onion rings, milkshakes & pie. What else could you possibly need? Highly suggest coming by!
Great hamburgers at an awesome price. It's always cool to find those places that have been doing the same thing for years. Twenty four hours for seventy five years, pretty cool if you ask me.
One of the best breakfasts in town, whether you get the truckstop omelet scramble or a more traditional diner breakfast. And the cheeseburger, mmmmmmmm
Packed as usual, but a great place to eat, been in Kansas city a month, been there several times.
1937. FDR is president. The Hindenburg bursts into flames. Amelia Earhart disappears. Howard Hughes sets a transcontinental flight record. And Town Topic opens on Broadway in Kansas City. They sold hamburgers for 15 cents in those days. Not much else has changed other than the prices. They're still operating the same joint they opened in 1937. And I use the term joint as a compliment. They're using the same formula that made them great back then and continue to prove that sometimes the old ways are best. Great burgers and fries. Excellent chili. And they hand dip their shakes. Not chocolate ice cream squeezed out of a dispenser into your cup. They hand dip vanilla ice cream, add in chocolate syrup and milk and lovingly blend it all together. Best tasting shake I've had in a long time. Not much room for dining in. As I said, it's a throwback to the old style diners where everyone sits at the counter. Probably why so many people came in and got their food to go while we were there. And that's not to say there was a long wait either. They really work hard at this place and keep the orders moving. Friendly service from everyone there. They take pride in their place. Like I said. Old School baby. I really wanted to try their pie. Saw lots of folks taking that home with them. But I ran out of room. Gives me a reason to go back. Soon.
Can't go wrong with a double cheeseburger and a vanilla shake! Killer food!
The best burger ever. Classic. Greasy. Amazing burger. Must go.
Town Topic is an iconic KC greasy burger joint. You can't go wrong, and I love that it's 24 hours. I hadn't been there in years, but stopped with my son on the way home from a concert. Just be prepared for a crowd and a wait at midnight on a Saturday, I guess. It was a beautiful evening so no big deal to step back outside to wait after order was placed, and it's so worth it to have your order made fresh after you place it. It's a tiny little place though if you're not familiar with it. There are a few stools at the counter, but, honestly, I wouldn't recommend actually eating there - especially not at a busy time. I hear the shakes are great, and they've got a bigger menu than I remembered/expected, but it's primarily for the burgers as far as I'm concerned. The onion rings are also some of the best around. Not a place to be calorie/carb counting, etc... just go, indulge, enjoy like Kansas Citians have been doing for more than 80 years.
French toast is the best! In town for a small dinner.
So good! And a fair price for the quality!
Great food! Always a must stop. May be a super small place but the food is worth it
They burnt 3 orders if onions rings and put burnt onions on 3 burgers. Went back on another occassions. Got 2 meals. One burger got one pickle and the other burger none. Went back in and the lady persisted to argue with me about pickles...
Best dive burger I've ever had! The staff was super friendly and forgiving when I had no idea where to sit. There's only 10 seats and you're basically wiggling your way through people sitting next to you at the counter. Such a great experience! I got the double cheeseburger with onion, pickles, mustard, and ketchup with shoestring-style fries. And And a slice of cherry pie to top it off. I'm definitely going to visit again the next time I'm in town.
Delicious as always. One of our favorite burger places of all time.
The smell of grilled onions is amazing. Get some hashbrowns in a cup!
Only reason not 5 stars is due to long wait time. Food is great
Great little burger place, extremely friendly staff, fantastic food.
Cozy diner experience with a traditional counter and everything. Not much seating, so we had to wait a few minutes. Burgers had no extra frills to it, just basic burger. But it was still really tasty and meaty. Tried homemade berry pie al a mode, which was a scrumptious way to end the meal. Kind of pricy for simple burgers, but atmosphere and taste were winners.
We went and picked up our dinner to go. I picked this place based on the fact that it is on the list of 21 must have burgers in America. The burger was decent, but I cannot believe that it is one of the best in the country. I loved the atmosphere of the diner and how true to its roots it has stayed. The fries need more seasoning and the burger was over cooked on the edges. But, it wasn’t the most terrible I’ve ever had either.
Nice people.. and great food!!. Didn't have to wait that long either..
What a great old school experience! Order and eat at the counter. Everything is made fresh to order. The sausage and egg sandwich was spot on! Crispy and tasty hashbrowns are the perfect side. Don't forget the greasy hamburgers that made them famous!
Small and greasy. Burgers are great! Fries are alright.. the pies are probably really good but they also look like they have sitting there for a while. I feel like they could use an upgrade.
Old fashioned burger, tiny place. Burger is tasty and freshly made, medium done. Onion rings were too salty.
One of the best burger joints in the country. Been doing it for over 70 years in the same tiny shack. Well worth being shoulder to shoulder with 40 perfect strangers! Kids and I loved the burgers, make sure you order a shake too!
Cute shop with delicious food and a friendly atmosphere. While here, the cooks were friendly and greeted an older couple who were obviously regulars. Too bad there's not more places to sit.
Gre a t place to stop in for a quick bite. Great serve and their burgers are worth the stop. See you there.
Super crowded, no where close to enough space or staff for a shoulder to shoulder crowd. Food is good and it's open all night at least, but be ready for a huge wait. Get to go so that you can actually eat.
Loved this place! Makes you feel like you are stepping back in time. The waitress was so attentive and friendly. Their prices are great and the food is delicious! They have a great selection of pies too.
The best burgers in town! Been enjoying these burgers since I could remember & it's well over 50yrs!! The only burger that tastes even better the next day w/o warming it up!
The food was awesome. The line and the crowded establishment was less than ideal and for a moment I questioned was it even worth it...? After eating the burger I decided yes it was well worth it
One of the best breakfast in KC in a true old school KC joint. Great biscuits and gravy, delicious pancakes and hash browns. When it comes lunch and dinner time, burgers are historically great
Love town topic. Been coming here since I could walk! You can always find comfort in this greasy spoon.
Food was great as usual with unique town topic services
This place is fantastic. Food is great, staff is great. Huge portions. Price was reasonable. Excellent, a must try!
As soon as I walked through the front door I got the good old late 30's vibes. It's a cozy little dinner with food that reminded me of my grandma's home cooking. The only complaint I have is that the fries had no flavor and heavy with oil. Maybe, that's how it was way back when but I'm not a fan. Other then that, I enjoyed everything. Clean building and friendly staff! Give it a shot! You only live once!
Friendly staff, delicious Patty Melt, great pie, amazing experience... No wonder this place has been around since 1937!
Better than anything else open or late night lost the old school touch
Great iconic kansas city downtown classic burger stand. Nothing out of the ordinary, just an amazing spot for a quick burger and slice of pie!
Where else you gonna go downtown KC at 2am on Wednesday for greasy spoon burgers and bfast served with a smile? This joint is always jumping, and I like seeing the freaks who come out at night with me. No one here is faking it, this ain't Dennys. Real food, real folks. Highly recommend!
Very small business but always customers lining out the door. The quality of the food isn't great. It's like they spreed up making the burgers and frying stuff that nothing is crispy, it's just decent. Only went a few times for burgers and onions wings which are always just okay. But the last few times the burger made me vomit. Which never happened till I went there. But I get a burger anywhere else in just fine and happy.
Fun time. Very nostalgic. Excellent cheeseburgers and fries Chili was delicious
Great food but took a little longer than usual to get the food. The staff accidentally put the orders in the wrong order. Still would highly recommend trying this place! Probably my favorite burger place in KC!
Open 24 hours. Fresh made to order food. Milkshakes are great.
Eggs for cooked perfectly. It was neat having breakfast in a place that was established in 1937. Good conversation good food! Just a little pricey.
Good food usually don't have to wait you can get it to go or stay there to eat
Small building is the only "downside". But I would also argue its gives it the personality. Amazing micro diner. Great service better food!
Its a long wait but good food. I suggest ordering a strawberry shake for the wait.
Love the food if you're looking for a cheap, tasty burger. Long wait to order but totally worth it. And the pie is to DIE for!
Been going there since 1960...love it!
The food is cool on a good night.
I love a good Patty Melt, and they know how to make one. Less "hamburger on toast" and more "grilled cheese with burger in it'.
Nice joint. Getting expensive, but what isn't
Seriously amazing food! We ordered the cheeseburger and chili cheese dog, and then ordered another cheeseburger because it was just that good!! All the breakfast items coming out looked delicious as well! We'll be back for breakfast next time!
Great greasy spoon burgers! Would be 5* but their prices are a little high.
Liked the late night snack, but i had a small cheeseburger and fries $7 plus
This old stand by is one of my old favorite hamburger places in town. I don't live anywhere close, but if I'm downtown and in need of a burger, especially late at night, this is my pick. Fantastic milkshakes! Often crowded, but worth the wait if you have a couple of extra minutes. Cooked to order. Taking it to go is hard because the great smell in my car makes me want to eat while I'm driving. Probably not a good idea.
Town Topic is the place to be if your looking for some super cheesy, greesy, onion burgers. The onions rings are thick and crispy wonderful. On top of that they have like 15 to 20 pies you can choose from. They are all fresh, flaty, and delicious. The only problem with this place is there isn't enough places to sit and eat. It is a very tiny place. As long as your not claustrophobic and don't mind people this place is the best.
Have to be honest that I went in wanting to love this place. A packed late night greasy spoon is one of lifes great pleasures. But why is it so highly rated? Maybe because it’s a long standing place, has a great interior? The food was pretty underwhelming, burnt smash burgers with food service buns. Decent fries with no salt. The wait wasn’t too bad, but not sure why people who ordered after me got their food before me, when it was just burgers and fries. This is a decent last resort as there isn’t much late night food in the are, but if you can give it a pass.
Kansas City staple! A hole in the wall spot not to be passed up. Breakfast or burgers...short order delight! Get you some some of that yum yum.
Best greasy burger joint in kc
Good late night greasy burger
This is place has a small footprint but it serves an amazing burger. Well worth the wait as they make it on the grill after your order
Town Topic is a true Kansas City institution. The waitress who served me, sorry, I don't know her name, was very cordial and friendly. She was professional, but joked with the patrons and made everyone feel welcome. I had a single cheeseburger and onion rings. Good food. The place was somewhat busy even though it was after the lunchtime rush. Very good dining experience.
Great food, people and price
Ehh, good but not worth the hype.
Great food, cooked in front of you, cozy environment and friendly staff.
Best Greasy BURGER WE WERE VISITING FROM DETROIT AND HEARD GOOD THINGS ABOUT
Great food!! Little bit expensive if you want everything, and also a wait if you want to eat at a reasonable time. Check it out for yourself!
Great inner city spot for food. Expensive though for what you get.
Way too crowded all we were doing was getting to go order and i had to wait outside and it was very hot that day so i went to car and took 20 min to get order.
Old school diner with a traditional diner menu. Friendly staff. Free parking. A small area to dine in. Take out is made easy.
Always great food since 1937 great place to eat.
Best burger I've had in years!
Amazing food, service, and atmosphere! Really feels like a time machine to a bygone era. Don't go to this location if your are claustrophobic though.
Rude employees, not all of them... Ok, just a certain female that works nights. I'd give her the benefit of doubt, maybe she was having a bad night but that's hard to do when she's been short and nasty every time I've been there when she's working!
However their burgers are a little bit pricing but they were good
Small place always packed. U can smell the burgers down the road.
Amazing food! Can't believe I never had it sooner
I love the diner feel of this place even though I've never found the staff to friendly. Everything is cooked to order which is awesome! I always order The Broadway with a side of gravy to smother it.
A Piece Of Kansas City History. I love this place, the only downfall is that it can get very packed no matter what time of day. I personally call in my order but it's cool to sit in and eat too. Sober or drunk - their Bigger Burger or Truck Stop, a chili, or a slice of chocolate pie - YOU CAN'T GO WRONG. Such an awesome vibe from staff and even other customers, everyone is pretty chill - just another reason why KC is so great.
Good food, cheap prices & better pies than most places.
I go here for the biscuits and gravy as often as possible. Everybody can make bacon and eggs and so can Town Topic on the Blvd. but the ones who can make good gravy (with biscuits) are hard to find. Town Topic has the best gravy in Kansas City... every time, every day. I'm always open to try new places and I've tried many.. Town Topic is the place for B&G in KC. The Blvd. is my location but I know their gravy is as good at all of their locations! Clean and VERY SMALL but don't worry, they have To-Go!
Amazing place for exactly what it is. Its not fancy and its loud; both reasons to love it even more. The cook to order burgers are just add you want them; dessert of a variety of pies... all fabulous. So if you want a burger and you're downtown... stop in and grab a seat at the bar, you will not be disappointed. Perfect location with lots of parking.
Kansas City greasy spoon institution. Go there and order a cheeseburger with bacon, grilled onions, pickles, tots, and a slice of pie (lemon meringue is my favorite...) You will waddle home completely satisfied.
